DEEP PURPLE Guitarist Says Japanese Earthquake Disaster Is \'Sobering And Heartbreaking\'
 DEEP PURPLE guitarist Steve Morse has posted the following message regarding the 8.9-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami that shook Japan on March 11 morning and left more than five thousand killed and many more missing:
"This disaster is sobering and heartbreaking.
"Having been in Japan and admired their earthquake preparedness, who could have imagined so much tragedy from a tsunami in Japan?
"Those folks who are helping others in the face of unknown risks are true heroes.
"Let's hope and pray that the suffering is mitigated as much as humanly possible."

SPINEFARM RECORDS To Support \'Record Store Day\' With 6 Limited-Edition 7\" Singles
 As regular manufacturers of vinyl, and proud of it, Spinefarm Records are delighted to be celebrating Record Store Day on April 16, 2011 with six seven-inch singles featuring tracks from some of the key artists on the label. CHILDREN OF BODOM / KILLING JOKE - "Northpole Throwdown" / "Fresh Fever From The Skies". The COB track is taken from the Finnish band's just-released "Relentless, Reckless Forever" album, while the KILLING JOKE track comes from their latest "Absolute Dissent" release.
Single 4:
HELLYEAH / JETTBLACK - "Pole Rider" / "When It Comes To Lovin'". The HELLYEAH track is taken from the U.S. crew's second "Stampede" album, while the JETTBLACK track is taken from the U.K. band's "Get Your Hands Dirty" debut album.
JETTBLACK will be taking time out from the recording of the follow-up to "Get Your Hands Dirty" to sign copies of the seven-inch single and play an acoustic set at The Rock Box in Camberley (Surrey, England) at 1 p.m. on April 16.
Single 5:
HELLOWEEN / APOCALYPTICA - "The Sage, The Fool, The Sinner" / "Bring Them To Light". The HELLOWEEN track is taken from their latest "7 Sinners" album, while the APOCALYPTICA track (featuring GOJIRA's Joe Duplantier on guest vocals) comes from their most recent "7th Symphony" release.
Single 6:
THE ANSWER - "Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw" / "Fooled Me" (demo). Both tracks are exclusive to this release. "Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw" is a cover of the ROSE TATTOO classic (1978), while "Fooled Me" is a demo recording of a track at one point in contention for the Irish band's third studio album, currently being mixed.
About Record Store Day: Record Store Day is managed by the Music Monitor Network and is organized in partnership with the Alliance of Independent Media Stores (AIMS), the Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) and celebrates the culture of independent record stores by playing host to in-store events/performances, signings and special product releases on a global scale.

BLACK STONE CHERRY: New Single Available For Streaming
 "White Trash Millionaire", the new single from Kentucky rockers BLACK STONE CHERRY, can be streamed below. The song comes off the band's third album, "Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea", which will be released on May 31 via Roadrunner Records. The single will be available digitally on March 29.
BLACK STONE CHERRY, comprised of vocalist Chris Robertson, guitarist Ben Wells, bassist Jon Lawhon and drummer John Fred Young, is a band adept at creating both timeless rock 'n' roll and new, innovative sounds. While the band's last record, "Folklore And Superstition", was a compelling tribute to brotherhood and history, the new album is the summation of a year in the life of the band — every emotion, triumph, loss, romance and everything in between — it's all here on "Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea".
This is the first time BLACK STONE CHERRY has not recorded in the South, this time taking up residence in Los Angeles to work with famed producer Howard Benson (THEORY OF A DEADMAN, DAUGHTRY, THREE DAYS GRACE). The new surroundings allowed them to strengthen their relationships as both band members and friends, ultimately a detail that sets "Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea" above previous recordings. The raw intensity that pervades the music on this album harkens back to the early days of BLACK STONE CHERRY, when they were a bunch of blue-collar guys just making music together for the hell of it. The band admits, "When we first began writing music, we hadn't traveled very far out of our home state of Kentucky. Now, ten years later, we've traveled the world and experienced things we never imagined we would."
First single, "White Trash Millionaire", set to hit airwaves in April, pairs Robertson's soulful delivery with the urgent and infectious rhythms of his fellow players. Sure, this is Southern rock at heart; but the concept is universal: just take what the world gives you and make that work. "This album is the culmination of all of the everyday ups and downs life throws at you," says the band. "Sonically, you'll hear some of the meanest sounding guitar riffs we've ever laid down, and at the same time, you'll find ballads that will tug on your heartstrings. We wanted the album's intensity to match that of our live show. We're very proud of this album and excited for our fans to hear it!"

ODDLAND Signs With CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS
 Century Media Records, the Finnish Metal Expo, Inferno magazine, Terrorizer magazine and Imperiumi.net joined forces last year to find the "Suomi Metal Star 2011." Around 240 Finnish bands signed up to take part in the contest and 12 were selected to be voted on by the public prior to this past New Year's Eve. The four finalist bands played at the Finnish Metal Expo in Helsinki on Saturday, February 19 and it was ODDLAND from Turku who won over the majority of the jury members with its brand of sophisticated prog metal/rock — described as a cross between DEVIN TOWNSEND, OPETH and KATATONIA.
ODDLAND was formed in 2003 when four 18-year-old "wimps" decided to play heavy music to as a mental anti-acne medication. The mental acne never disappeared, but neither did the passion to play overdriven music with captivating melodies and intense energy. So far they made two recordings: the EP "Connecions Critical Behind" (2007) and the demo/promo "Away From The Watching Eye" (2009).
Commented ODDLAND: "We are absolutely thrilled to be signed by Century Media Records and to be recording our debut album with them. We're very proud to become part of the Century Media family. There are many amazingly talented bands with the label and we're very honored to become one of them. We've been playing together for a long time and it seems that all the hours spent at the rehearsal room were not in vain. We're going to work very hard to make the best debut album we can possibly make. We don't want to rush things, however, because we want to put out music that will make us stick around. And last but not least, we want to say a huge thank you to all the fans, friends and family who have supported us to this point. Thank you!"

SEBASTIAN BACH On New Album Recordings: Two Songs Down, 11 To Go
 Former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach recently entered a Los Angeles studio with his new, young, virtuosic guitarist Nick Sterling and producer Bob Marlette (BLACK SABBATH, SHINEDOWN, ATREYU, FILTER) to record Bach's next CD, tentatively due this summer via the Italian label Frontiers Records.
In a March 21 posting on his Facebook page, Bach writes, "Best day ever! I just nailed two songs out of the park on my first day singing. I can't tell you how great it feels and how great Bob Marlette is making everything sound. After watching Nick Sterling and Bobby Jarzombek [drums] rock out, I have been chomping at the bit to wail and today I did! Two down, 11 to go! Screams are at FULL FORCE!!!"

SKINDRED: \'Union Black\' Track Listing Revealed
 Welsh "ragga metal" act SKINDRED will release its fourth album, "Union Black", on April 25 via BMG/7pm Records. The CD was recorded at Britannia Row Studios in London with producer James Loughrey.
The band's new single, "Warning", is a no-holds-barred ragga rock monster of a tune which received its first exclusive play earlier in the month on BBC Radio 1's "Rock Show".

"I don't think I've been this happy with songs for years," bassist Dan Pugsley told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine. I know everyone always says that, but I'm just so happy to be doing the album in the U.K. We've never actually recorded in the U.K. [before]. Working with a British producer, who knows the more British reference points we have, is great. American producers are all about American radio and how you fit into that; if you put something 'different' out, radio just won't play it. We've had more freedom to 'create' on this album. It's not like we're going to be doing self-indulgent, wacky things, just stuff that people thought wouldn't work on American radio that we're not trying out — and it's working! The drum 'n' bass thing, the dancehall thing… we're embracing all the things that make us different."
Regarding the new album title, vocalist Benji Webbe said, "'Union Black' is a celebration of the diversity of the U.K. We're all from different backgrounds, but there are so many of us here on this little island — from the Commonwealth and beyond — we're all kindred spirits of old Blighty. SUIDAKRA: Three New Songs Available For Streaming
 Three new songs from German melodic folk/death metallers SUIDAKRA — "Dowth 2059", "Biróg's Oath" and "Balor" — are available for streaming on the band's Facebook page. All three tracks come off the group's 's tenth album, "Book Of Dowth", which will be released on March 25 via AFM Records. The CD was recorded at Gernhart Studio in Siegburg, Germany with producer Martin Buchwalter. Famous Belgian graphic artist Kris Verwimp once again created the cover artwork and lyrical concept.
Inspired by the darker side of Celtic lore, the concept of "Book Of Dowth" chronicles the mythology of a mysterious race of demonic beings known as the "Fomor." Starting with the discovery of an ancient book at the excavation of Dowth (a Neolithic passage tomb in the Boyne Valley, Ireland), it unveils the yet untold story of the rise and fall of the Fomorian horde throughout history and far, far beyond…

VADER Announces New Drummer, Bassist
 Due to "family matters," drummer Pawel "Paul" Jaroszewicz has decided to leave Polish extreme metal veterans VADER. Despite this, he has committed to laying down tracks for the band's new album, "Welcome To The Morbid Reich", and taking part in the group's already confirmed concerts in May, June and July. Jaroszewicz's replacement in VADER is the "very talented" 21-year-old English musician James Stewart, who has previously played with DIVINE CHAOS.
Commented Mariusz Kmiolek of Massive Music Management: "The choice was obvious. We know James from one of the VADER tours, his band supported us on several gigs. We gave him an assignment to do; he prepared some tracks, presented them on the video and became the new member of our crew! He's a very young, talented and disciplined musician. He belongs to the new wave artists — ambitious, exquisite in their technique, keeping track of the technical novelties. At the same time he's a nice guy, drinking his tea with milk (brrrr!) and craving for success. I believe in this guy!"
In other news, VADER guitarist/vocalist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek has released a statement disputing bassist Tomasz "Reyash" Rejek's February 2010 announcement that he had decided to "quit" VADER "due to personal reasons."
Stated Wiwczarek: "I decided to thank Reyash for over two-year's cooperation in January 2011 and it was solely my decision. The decision was made on his recent behavior only and definitely not due to his 'personal reasons.' Reyash is a great mate BUT this isn't enough to be a part of VADER.
"What's funny is that my expectations are really not that high as it might seem from the personal changes in the band throughout the recent years. VADER is appreciated by YOU just because of us keeping the style, sincerity and quality REGARDLESS the so-called public opinion. Reyash knew that he was to play 'till the end of the season (promotion of [VADER's last album, 'Necropolis') and his staying in the band depended exclusively on his work during the past two years. I can't understand his trying to give a good account of himself in this situation, the more so because it is insincere.
"Nevertheless, me and all people contributing to the presence of VADER Commando wish Reyash success, all the best and satisfaction from his work! One should keep good memories only. We're also glad that after Reyash's official statement appeared, we were contacted by lots of bass players willing to join the band, most of them from abroad. However, the decision about who will replace Tomek was made a few weeks ago. We invited Hal (HERMH, DEAD INFECTION, ABUSED MAJESTY). This lineup will be seen on stage from April."

 Grindcore progenitors NAPALM DEATH have contributed a brand to track called "Legacy Was Yesterday" to Decibel magazine's monthly flexi disc series. The song — the band's first new material since 2009's "Time Waits for No Slave" LP — was recorded at Rapture Audio with James Walford and mastered by Russ Russell. NAPALM DEATH is currently writing material for its 14th studio album, due later this year through a yet-to-be-determined label.
In a late 2010 interview with Dose Of Metal, NAPALM DEATH frontman Mark "Barney" Greenway stated about the band's plans for the follow-up to 2009's "Time Waits For No Slave", "We will be starting more or less from scratch in January 2011 making a new album and will record in May. Don't read that wrong — it doesn't take us that much time to get our stuff together, it's just that Russ Russell, our producer, has his hands full until May. It does seem a while since 'Time Waits…', but we recorded the previous few albums in quick succession so thought we'd hold back for a change. Time can indeed fucking wait."
"Time Waits For No Slave" entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 95. The CD, which was released in the U.S. in February 2009 via Century Media Records, was recorded with producer Russ Russell. Drums were tracked at Parlour Studios in Kettering and guitars, bass and vocals were done at Foel Studios in Wales. The band then returned to Parlour for the mixing sessions.

Tribute To ENSLAVED: Final List Of Contributing Artists Revealed

SISTER SIN: \'24/7\' Video Released
 "24/7", the new video from the Swedish female-fronted heavy rock band SISTER SIN, can be viewed below. The clip was directed by Richard Frantzen, who previously worked with the band on the "Sound Of The Underground" video. The track comes off SISTER SIN's second album, "True Sound Of The Underground", which sold around 500 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 97 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

JOURNEY: \'Eclipse\' Track Listing Revealed

DEVILS WHOREHOUSE DEATH WOLF: Two New Songs Available For Streaming
 DEVILS WHOREHOUSE — the "horror-death rock" side-project of MARDUK guitarist Morgan Håkansson — has changed its name to DEATH WOLF because "the music and philosophy behind the orchestra has outgrown its name," according to a press release.
DEATH WOLF (symbolizing the strength, dedication and will shown in its creations) just finished recording its new album for a late spring/early summer release via Regain Records/Blooddawn.

UNITED To Release New Album
 UNITED, one of the forerunners of the Japanese thrash metal scene, will release its ninth album, "Tear Of Illusions", on April 20 via Spiritual Beast. The group's first CD in almost six years was co-produced by UNITED's longtime collaborator Tetsuji "Tetsu666" Yamada and features the band's Kuwait-born trilingual singer Ken-Shin.
Commented the group: "It's definitely the best album we've made so far. We can't wait for the fans to listen to the album!"
Formed in 1981, UNITED has shared the stage with such genre leaders as SLAYER, MACHINE HEAD, EXODUS and TESTAMENT. In 2010, UNITED (minus Ken-Shin) served as the backing band for former IRON MAIDEN singer Paul Di'Anno.
UNITED is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and a lot of interesting releases and a series of gigs are currently being worked on.

BECOMING THE ARCHETYPE: Another New Song Available For Streaming
 "Path Of The Beam, a brand new song from Atlanta, Georgia-based metallers BECOMING THE ARCHETYPE, can be streamed below (courtesy of AOL's Noisecreep). The track comes off the band's fourth album, "Celestial Completion", which will be released on March 29 via Solid State Records. The CD was produced by Matt Goldman (UNDEROATH, THE CHARIOT, COPELAND) and contains 11 tracks.

VILE: New Song Posted Online; \'Metamorphosis\' Artwork Preview Available
 Californian brutal death metallers VILE have completed work on their fourth full-length album, "Metamorphosis", for a fall 2011 release. According to the band, the CD is "a concept album which contains a wide variety of styles, tempos and lyrical topics with an interlocking philosophical and lyrical concept."
The group adds, "We are confident that old-school VILE fans will love it and also that fans of other styles of metal, not only American death metal, will be quite pleased. The recording quality is the best we have released to date and we expect the album to be a standard raising release for the genre of extreme metal."

OTEP: New Song Preview Available
 California's OTEP will release its new album, "Atavist", on April 26 via Victory Records. Former THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN drummer Gil Sharone laid down the drum tracks on the CD, which will be released in both standard and CD/DVD deluxe editions. The latter will feature expanded artwork and a poetry book, interviews, a poetry-reading montage, behind-the-scenes footage and music videos.
A 96-second preview of the new OTEP song "Drunk On The Blood Of Saints" — taken from "Atavist" — is available via the YouTube clip below.
OTEP frontwoman Otep Shamaya had the following to say about "Atavist": "This album is a return to the umbra, to the darkest parts of me. I am fortifying this fortress of sound with Cyclopean masonry.
"The language on my lips is forged from forbidden tongues 12 lifetimes old. I am the heart of the gorgon, the broken mind of the lunatic, the courage of the martyr, the voice of the insurrectionist, the agog of the alchemist, I am the defiance in the aching souls waiting for the flame, I am the mighty Minotaur raging against the labyrinths of isolation and sadness.
"There is a purposeful primal spirit to this record, a coded provocation to remember our connection to the infinite, to the mysterious, to each other."
OTEP's fourth full-length studio album, "Smash The Control Machine", sold around 10,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 47 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on August 18, 2009 via Victory Records.
Otep Shamaya was nominated for "Outstanding Music Artist" in the 21st annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards.
An outspoken advocate of gay rights, Shamaya serves as a key figure in the movement to promote fair, accurate, and inclusive representation of people and events in the media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

SKELETONWITCH Parts Ways With Drummer
 Ohio metallers SKELETONWITCH have parted ways with drummer Derrick "Mullet Chad" Nau and have temporarily replaced him with Tony Laureano (DIMMU BORGIR, 1349, ANGELCORPSE, NILE).
Commented SKELETONWITCH guitarist Scott Hedrick: "Our good friend Tony will be playing drums on our April tour, new album, and for the foreseeable future.
"We're fucking stoked to have a drummer of his caliber and experience on board. He's a beast behind the kit and a great fucking guy as well. You can't ask for more than that!"
He added, "After our last tour, Derrick informed us that he is putting down the drum sticks and picking up the paint brush. He is returning to art school and does not wish to be a musician anymore.
"We would like to thank Derrick for his years of dedication to SKELETONWITCH. Though we will miss him, there is no bad blood. We will always remain great friends and wish him the best with his new endeavor."
SKELETONWITCH's latest album, "Breathing the Fire" (2009), debuted at No. 151 on The Billboard 200 chart and No. 2 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. It was SKELETONWITCH's second full-length release for Prosthetic Records, with whom the band recently extended its recording deal.

SATURNUS Seeking New Label Home
 Denmark's melodic doom metal masters SATURNUS have parted ways with Firebox Records and are currently seeking a new label home.
The band's current lineup still includes Thomas A.G. Nielsen (vocals), Brian Hansen (guitar) and Rune Stiassny (lead guitar). A new drummer and rhythm guitarist were recently added in the shape of Henrik Glass and Mattias Svensson, respectively.
Commented Nielsen: "SATURNUS has been through a major transition due to a necessary lineup change arising from different views on how things needed to be run. This put the brakes on the bands progression for so long that eventually something had to break or otherwise we would inevitably have split up.
"We love playing live whenever we can and right now we want to do it more than ever to follow on and raise our profile once again to echo the success of our last album, 'Veronika Decides to Die', and previous efforts.
"The new lineup is just perfect. All the things I have been looking for in musicians has been delivered perfectly; the creativity, the lust for playing live, the understanding of the universe of SATURNUS and the way to compose is just perfect. I could not wish for better.
"Leaving Firebox Records was necessary for SATURNUS and even with one contractual album left to be fulfilled, both parties amicably decided to annul the contract we had and go our separate ways.
"So now the future lies open for SATURNUS. We need a record label to fully get the ship back out to sea again, and believe me, we are hungry like never before."
