DARK TRANQUILLITY, WATAIN Among MANIFEST Award Nominees

DARK TRANQUILLITY and WATAIN are among the nominees for a Manifest award in the "Hard Rock/Metal" category. Also up for the "Hard Rock/Metal" honor are GHOST and KHOMA.

The Manifest Awards are held by SOM (Svenska Oberoende Musikproducenter) (Swedish Independent Musicproducers), an organization that consists of over 100 record labels. This year's awards ceremony will take place on February 4 at Nalen in Stockholm.

LOUDNESS - Full Length Audio Samples From New Single Available

LOUDNESS has contributed a song entitled 'The Eternal Soldiers' as an intro theme for the new anime movie Mazinkaizer SKL, in Japanese theaters last month. The single was released on December 15th via Lantis and has been compared to 'Death Machine' from the band's latest album, King Of Pain. OUTLOUD - neue Single \'Waiting For Your Love\' im Stream!

Die beiden FIREWIND Musiker Bob Katsionis und Mark Cross haben 2009 gemeinsam mit dem TALON Sänger Chandler Mogel die Band OUTLOUD gegründet. Die beiden weiteren Member der Band sind Gitarrist Tony Kash und Bassist Jason Mercury. Die Band hat einen Deal mit FRONTIERS RECORDS unterschrieben und das Debut Album "We'll Rock You To Hell and Back Again" wurde am 28. August 2009 in Europa veröffentlicht.

Swedish occult rock outfit GRAVEYARD will release its new album, "Hisingen Blues", in late March via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD's first single, "Hisingen Blues", can be streamed using the Soundcloud player below.

EMMURE: Audio Sample Of New Single Available For Streaming

An audio sample of "Demons With Ryu", the new single from the New Fairfield, Connecticut- and Queens, New York-based deathcore act EMMURE, is available for streaming on Amazon.com. The single, which will be released tomorrow (Tuesday, January 18), comes off the band's new album, "Speaker Of The Dead", which is due on February 15 through Victory Records. The CD was produced by Joey Sturgis, who has previously worked with THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA and BORN OF OSIRIS, among others.

LITA FORD Working On New Studio Album

Rich's Music Exchange conducted an interview with '80s hard rock queen Lita Ford at this past weekend's NAMM international music industry trade show in Anaheim, California. During the chat, which can be viewed below, Lita revealed that she is currently working on her new album for a tentative spring release.

DORO - "I Want To Die On Stage!"

Greece-based Rockpages Web Magazine conducted an exclusive interview with DORO PESCH. Among other topics, she talked about her latest DVD 25 Years In Rock and her love for her fans and metal music. Here's an excerpt:

Rockpages.gr : How do you react to the phrase Metal Queen?

Doro: "You know what? When someone is saying something positive I’m so happy and grateful. I love the fans more than anything in this world, I’m still a metalhead myself, I’m still a metal fan, big fan of many other bands. As long as I can do metal I’m happy!'

Rockpages.gr : My last question. You wake up one day, you wash your face, you take a look in the mirror and say 'Okay, Doro, this is the last concert.'

Doro: "I can not even think about that! I wanna do that for the rest of my life, to die on stage! As long as there are fans out there, I wanna do it! I love concerts so much! Music and the fans are everything to me!"

BANG TANGO Reissues Due Out Later This Month

Metal Mind have announced the exclusive reissue of Los Angeles glam rockers BANG TANGO's Psycho Cafe, Dancin' On Coals and Ain't No Jive... Live. The albums will be available in a new digipak edition each limited to 2000 copies. Re-release of Dancin’ On Coals includes two bonus tracks. Metal Mind Productions has set the release date for January 31st.

LANTLÔS - Self-Titled Debut To Be Re-Released On 2CD Set

On March 11th, the self-titled debut album by German metallers LANTLÔS, which has been sold out for a few months, is going to be re-released by Lupus Lounge / Prophecy Productions.

This re-release in a super jewel case will contain a bonus CD with the tracks from the extremely rare demo, Îsern Himel, two previously unreleased demo recordings - 'Kalte Tage' (instrumental) and 'Þinaz Andawlitjam', as well as the equally unreleased song 'Farbensturm'.

Apart from that, the booklet includes not only the lyrics, but also extensive liner notes by Herbst on the making of the album as well as previously unreleased band photos.

Lantlôs released .neon, their second album, on June 11th via Prophecy Productions. The album was released in North America on July 13th.

The duo - consisting of Herbst and ALCEST frontman Neige seemed restless, and on July 23rd the guys entered Iheartsound studio (Bielefeld, Germany) in order to record their third album.

Herbst offered a few insights into the band's new material: "I think with our new album we'll tread new paths for Lantlôs, both musically and conceptually. In general, the upcoming album will be very vanguard and rather unaccessible and the black metal vibe will be gone almost entirely. Still, the record will be much darker than its predecessors, nihilistic, and strange. It'll be bulky, ugly and will feed off its listeners."

The yet-untitled album is at the moment scheduled for a 2011 release. Further updates to follow.

ESSENCE Set Release Date For Lost In Violence Album

Danish thrash metal band ESSENCE has signed a record deal with the Belgian company Ultimhate Records for the release of their debut album, Lost In Violence. The album will be out in Europe and the rest of the world on February 25th, and can already be pre-ordered at this location.

About the agreement the band says, "We have chosen Ultimhate Records based on the seriousness and passion for metal, which is very strong amongst them. They have exciting visions for the future and a dedicated labor force, combined with a vast network. We are delighted that our album hits the streets and the internet, so we can spread our thrash metal as broadly as possible. Finally, we can begin to look forward and focus all our energy on getting out on the Danish and European roads in 2011. We will also start writing new material for the next record, which we now can do well-knowing that our first album is in competent hands.”

MACABRE - New Album Pre-Order Available; Samples Online

Celebrating their 25th Anniversary, Chicago’s MACABRE will unleash their brand new studio album entitled Grim Scary Tales in Europe on January 31st by Hammerheart Records and in North America on February 8th by Willowtip Records. L.A. GUNS vocalist Phil Lewis has issued the following update:

"Hi guys and a Happy New Year to everyone! Just a quick update for ya's. (Bassist) Kenny Kweens has decided to leave the band. We wish the best for Kenny and we really enjoyed having him with us over the last year and a half. We are delighted to have return with us Scotty Griffin! ARTILLERY - New Album Preview Clip Available

On January 10th, long-running Danish thrashers ARTILLERY finished work on their forthcoming album, New Blood.

Metal Mind Productions will release the album on March 14th in Japan (via Kings Records), March 21st in Europe, and April 5th in North America (via MVD).

The album will be released as a jewel case CD and as a digipak CD, including 2 bonus tracks. The Japanese edition of the album will include an exclusive bonus track which won’t be available elsewhere.

The album was recorded at Medley Studios, Denmark with Søren Andersen as the producer. The band has released a video teaser to give you a foretaste of the new material. The clip can be seen below:

Unreleased THIN LIZZY PHIL LYNOTT Track Available

According to Martin Kielty from Rock AAA, an unreleased Phil Lynott track has appeared online on the 25th anniversary of the THIN LIZZY star’s death.

The Story of My Life, available below, features Snowy White on guitar and was recorded during 1981 sessions which spawned the unsuccessful single Trouble Boys. At the time band members weren’t clear on whether they were recording for the upcoming Lizzy album, Renegade, or working on solo Lynott material.

METALLICA Guitarist Joins TOOL On Stage In Hawaii

METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett joined TOOL on stage during the band's January 14 concert at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. They played a partial cover of METALLICA's "Orion" and before segueing into the TOOL song "Lateralus". Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be viewed below.

JANE\'S ADDICTION Headed In \'Completely Different Direction\' On New Album

Gary Graff of Billboard.com recently spoke to JANE'S ADDICTION members Dave Navarro (guitar) and Stephen Perkins (drums) about the progress of the recording sessions for the band's new album, tentatively titled "The Great Escape". A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Navarro: "I'm really happy with where we are, musically speaking. One thing I've come to learn and embrace about this band is, things take what [time] they take... I would say that all the changes we've gone through are a necessary part of this process this time. This is one of the most enjoyable journeys that I've been on in many, many, many years, and as a result I'm really not all that concerned about timetables and rushing to get this stuff out."

Perkins: "To me it's important to not repeat what we did. We know we can make a rock record with rock riffs and a big drum beat. I don't want to do that. I want to go in and make a listenable onion with layers and layers and layers so you can actually digest it. It's definitely been a good writing experience and a good changing experience."

Navarro: "I would hate to pigeonhole us by giving examples of what I believe the stuff sounds like. It's a completely different direction for JANE'S ADDICTION... However, it still sounds very much like JANE'S ADDICTION."

Perkins: "They're songs that take you on a journey, songs that grow from soft to hard to tribal to psychedelic to metal in one song. We're trying to explore that hybrid again."

Finnish doom metallers SWALLOW THE SUN check in with the following update post-tour update:

"So, friends around the planet, it's time to summarize the New Moon tours of 2009 - 2010 and pick up the pieces of our gloomy and broken bones from countless stages, backstages, buses, hotels, bars, planes and police stations, giving huge thanks to all of you for making the New Moon tours the most successful tours so far for us! Thank you for coming to the shows, buying merchandise, believing in us and supporting the music!

Once again we toured more than ever before, and this time we brought the Finnish winter to 24 different countries, playing 146 shows in total after the album release. During the New Moon touring period we completed three European tours, two North American tours, played many summer festivals and also had the pleasure to play in Israel and Romania for the first time.

In 2010 we also made an endorsement deal with D'Addario strings, Planet Waves cables and Evans drum skins, and we are more than happy to be part of the D'Addario family from now on.

So this year, 2011, we are going to keep things a bit more quiet and start preparing for the next Swallow The Sun album, which will be released at the end of this year or in the beginning of 2012... yeah, if the world doesn't end! Ten new songs are already in the works, but we are not going to rush with recording, album release or new tours because our bodies, hair and especially livers just can't handle it yet, folks!!

We might do a few selected shows and festivals this year if it fits in with our plans, but otherwise this year is going to be a dark road of solitude towards new depths of gloom, beauty and despair – the sixth chapter of Swallow the Sun.

SLASH: AXL ROSE Has Always Been One Of The Best Frontmen/Lyricists In Rock And Roll

Dan Snierson of Entertainment Weekly recently conducted an interview with legendary guitarist Slash (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES). A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Entertainment Weekly: What's the timeline for making a decision on the new singer for VELVET REVOLVER?

Slash: There's a short list of people we're looking at right now but we haven't made any decisions…. A decision will be made one way or another I would imagine in the coming weeks.

Entertainment Weekly: How many people have you narrowed it down to?

Slash: There's a couple people and I can't tell you who they are but they're all good. Pretty much everybody has been really, really good. It's just trying to find the right fit and the right style, and somebody who just gets it.

Entertainment Weekly: Are there names we know?

Slash: There's one guy that's definitely pretty well-known.

Entertainment Weekly: Did you see that MusicRadar.com poll in which Axl was voted the greatest lead singer of all time?

Slash: I did. I thought that was actually pretty fucking cool.

Entertainment Weekly: You did?

Slash: Yeah. All things considered, we may have had our differences and this and that and the other, but I will never undermine the fact that I thought GUNS N' ROSES, when it was originally together, was one of the best rock bands, and Axl has always in my mind been one of the best frontmen/lyricists in rock and roll, period.

Entertainment Weekly: Would that have been your vote?

Slash: It might have been. I never stop to even think about it — there's him, Roger Daltrey, Steven Tyler, Robert Plant, Mick Jagger…. I'd probably say Mick Jagger, only because Mick has been doing it for so long and he's one of the most charismatic frontmen of all time. But if I had a Top 5, Axl would be in there. And John Lennon…

VREID - \'The Sound Of The River\' Video Debuts

VREID have released the music video for the song 'The Sound Of The River', from their forthcoming album V, out on Indie Recordings February 7th. The video was recorded over a three-day period in Wroclaw Poland, and is produced by Grupa 13 who are well known for their work for BEHEMOTH, AMON AMARTH.

"It was a pleasure to work with such professional and creative people," comments the band's bass player and songwriter Hváll. "The filming itself went very smooth, and we had a great dialogue with the producers both by building the storyline, as well as in the process of the after work."

Dallas, TX's THE BROWNING have issued a brand new video - the title track off of their upcoming digital EP, Time Will Tell. The EP is a companion piece to their earlier release, Standing On The Edge and its new video showcases the band doing what they do best. ZONARIA Part Ways With Bassist

Bass player Markus Åkebo has left the Swedish death/black metal band ZONARIA.

Emil Nyström states about the departure: "We've had some great tours the last couple of years with Markus and we're going to miss him bad. But sometimes people need to move on and Markus needed a change in life. We wish him all the best for his future ventures. The departure will not affect our upcoming plans and tours. We've got a good friend of ours stepping in on our upcoming European tour with Nile, Meleches, Dew-Scented and Darkrise."

Zonaria's tour with NILE, MELECHESH, DEW-SCENTED and DARKRISE, dubbed Those Whom The Gods Detest - European Tour 2011, is scheduled to kick off on January 20 at Mega Club in Katowice, Poland. A list of the dates can be found on the band's MySpace page.

Zonaria's second full-length album, The Cancer Empire, was released in the US in January 2009 via Century Media Records. The CD was produced by Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman and was mastered by Peter In De Betou at Tailor Maid.

Formed in 2002 by guitarist, main songwriter, and vocalist Simon Berglund along with axeman Emil Nyström (both were only 15 years old at that time), Zonaria outgrew its local underground status with the debut album Infamy And The Breed (Pivotal Recordings, 2007) and gained Europe-wide attention through tours with IMPALED NAZARENE, MARDUK, PAIN and VADER. With influences ranging from HYPOCRISY to DIMMU BORGIR to ARCH ENEMY, ZONARIA's misanthropic mix of brutal riffs, melodic harmonies, maniacal drumming, and ominous synth lines was well received within the metal community and the band succeeded in shaping its own, unique sound.

LORD VOLTURE To Hit The Studio In March/April

Beast Of Thunder, the debut album from Dutch heavy metal band LORD VOLTURE, has only been out since June 2010, but the band will be heading into the studio in March and April 2011 to record their second full-length. The title of this new album will be Never Cry Wolf.

According to an update, "it is not known yet when and how the album will be released. But for those impatient to the hear the new material the band already uploaded two instrumental demo samples to their website."

CRYSTAL VIPER - Katowice Video Bootleg Posted Online

Polish female-fronted traditional heavy metal act CRYSTAL VIPER, posted online complete video recording of their last live show, which took place in Katowice, Poland, at January 09th. The "official video bootleg" from Katowice, can be viewed at the band's official YouTube channel.

ORANGE GOBLIN Reissues Due This Month

The first five ORANGE GOBLIN albums are to be re-released via Rise Above Records on Wednesday, January 26th.

All five albums have been re-mastered and will feature bonus-tracks, additional artwork and new sleeve notes. They will come in deluxe individual digi-packs or you can order the limited edition box-set which contains all five albums and an exclusive woven Orange Goblin patch.
