Rebuilding REBELLION

Singer Michael Seifert and bassist Tomi Göttlich have decided to rebuild the German metal band REBELLION following the recent departures of Uwe Lulis (guitar), Gerd Lücking (drums) and Simone Wenzel (guitar),

Commented Seifert: "We have received many positive e-mails from fans. REBELLION are now looking for a drummer and a guitarist. Send applications to the band at the following e-mail address: rebellionfromhell@yahoo.com."

Added Göttlich: "We want to start the band from scratch. Micha and I would like to practice regularly. Future rehearsals will be near Giessen. The new musicians should not we live too far away."

Gerd and Uwe have plans to form a new band while Simone has joined VERNISSAGE.

REBELLION's latest full-length album (the third part of the "History of the Vikings" saga), "Arise: From Ragnarök to Ginnungagap - The History of the Vikings Volume III", came out in July 2009 via Massacre Records.

SABATON Taps DRAGONFORCE\'s LECLERCQ For European Tour

Swedish metallers SABATON have recruited DRAGONFORCE bassist Frédéric Leclercq to play guitar on their upcoming European tour. He will be filling in for regular SABATON guitarist Rikard Sundén, who "has decided to multiply himself and will have his first kid at this time," according to a statement released by the band.

The group adds, "Of course, it's the highest wish of SABATON to tour with all six members, but this time Rikard wanted to pass and to ensure that the fans that come to these shows will get a good show we wanted to bring in a person with both great musical talent as well as a great stage act together with a chemistry that we know fits in SABATON. We are sure that Frédéric is that person. This is, of course, a temporary situation, Frédéric is still a full member of DRAGONFORCE and Rikard is still the guitar player of SABATON. For the American tour that starts in April, Rikard will be on stage again, ready to rock and a hopefully a bit richer in life."

SABATON's "World War Tour 2011" of Europe is scheduled to kick off on March 3 in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg.

"Uprising", the new video from SABATON, was filmed in Warsaw, Poland and is described as "a powerful and emotional tribute to those who lost their lives in the Warsaw uprising in 1944." The clip features an appearance by Swedish actor Peter Stormare ("Prison Break", "8MM", 'Fargo') as SS-Obergruppenführer von dem Bach and was directed by Jacek Raginis (who is related to decorated WWII hero Wladyslav Raginis).

"Uprising" comes off SABATON's fifth album, "Coat Of Arms", which sold around 450 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 124 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Coat Of Arms" was released in Europe on May 21, 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Former TNT Singer TONY HARNELL Looks Back On 2010 - Jan. 8, 2011

Former TNT and current TONY HARNELL & THE MERCURY TRAINvocalist Tony Harnell has issued the following update:

"2010 was definitely better than 2009 by a long shot! I continued healing from my mother's passing and my own health scare and subsequent surgery in spring 2009. It knocked me down for a bit and I haven't spoken about it much 'till a couple of months ago but all is good now.

"It feels great that we actually got an album released, did some shows in New York, Norway, Spain and Florida and I'm almost back to my old self.

"My bands both in New York and in Sweden really helped me through some tough times. I love them all very much.

"2011 should be interesting. We are working on new material. We're not sure if we'll release a full album or a few songs at a time. We'll have to see how things go.

"I hope to do a lot more shows this year, either solo or with THE MERCURY TRAIN or maybe in some other unforeseen situation, such as last year's Queen Symphonic Rhapsody, which was a huge success and a lot of fun.

"I'll be announcing a New York show soon and hopefully more good things to come."

"Northern Lights", the debut video from Harnell's new project, TONY HARNELL & THE MERCURY TRAIN, can be viewed below. The track comes off the group's debut album, "Round Trip", which was released in Europe on July 2, 2010 and in the USA on July 27, 2010 via Frontiers Records.

"Round Trip" is a very special record: a stripped down, reinvented retrospective of Tony Harnell's past classics originally recorded with his previous bands TNT, WESTWORLD and STARBREAKER, with one brand new song, "Anywhere But Here", recorded exclusively for this release.

"As the first album was a kind of melancholic doom-rock, expect this second

doom, sad, progressive and atmospheric."

"II" track listing:

01. Melancholy Under Darkened Skies
02. Dismal
03. The Sadness That Haunts Me
04. Grievance (Instrumental)
05. As Darkness Comes

DEW-SCENTED: \'Arise From Decay\' Video Released

"Arise From Decay", the new video from German thrashers DEW-SCENTED, can be viewed below. The song comes off the band's latest album, "Invocation", which was released on May 24, 2010 in Europe via Metal Blade Records and May 25, 2010 in North America through Prosthetic Records. The Japanese edition of the CD came with an alternate coloring of the cover artwork (sort of the "post-apocalypse version") and included four bonus tracks. The bonus tracks are two original songs, "Recall The Pain" (instrumental) and "The Death Of Common Sense", as well as two cover versions that the band recorded during the album session, 'Slaughterhouse' by U.S. power-thrashers POWERMAD and the track "Superstar Destroyer" by GENOCIDE SUPERSTARS from Sweden.

Commented DEW-SCENTED vocalist Leif Jensen: "While we spent a good amount of time on the European roads in 2010 promoting the release of 'Invocation', we figured it would be a good idea to collect live footage and have some of it presented to our global supporters. We chose the album's opening, 'Arise From Decay', for the clip as this track has become an important and very energetic piece of our current live set."

As previously reported, DEW-SCENTED has recruited Michael "Michi" Hankel (EROSION, HOLY MOSES) to play rhythm guitar on its upcoming European tour with NILE.

INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND\'s \'Bleed The Line\' EP Now Available

Reunited late '80s Connecticut thrashers (now based in New York City) INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND (I.N.C.) have made their new EP, "Bleed The Line", available in digital format via iTunes or Amazon.com. Five of the EP's six tracks were written, recorded and produced by the band between the spring and summer of 2010, with the EP opener, "God Loves Violence", having been mixed by seasoned producer Fredrik Nordström (AT THE GATES, IN FLAMES, OPETH).

The "Bleed The Line" EP was made available on INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND's own label, M90 Records, and is the first music that the band has released in 20 years. The artwork for the EP was illustrated by Dennis Guevera.

"Bleed The Line" track listing:

01. God Loves Violence (Fredrik Nordström mix)
02. Bleed the Line
03. Rain (feat. Ron Thal of GUNS N' ROSES)
04. Full Metal Jacket
05. If I Were President
06. Fueled By Regret

"It felt great being back in the studio after so long," states lead guitarist Erik Barath. "It didn't even feel like there was any rust, it just felt natural. It was also amazing to have Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal stop by and lay down a lead on 'Rain'! That guy is an alien from another planet the way he plays guitar!"

INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND's video for the song "God Loves Violence" can be viewed below. The clip, which depicts scenes of violence and war, was posted on YouTube several months ago, but was banned after receiving over 100,000 views in under two weeks. This new video was filmed by New York City-based filmmaker Justin Johnson, who is known for his popular short political satire "Hillary In Bosnia", which has over 2.4 million views, and was featured on Fox News and other TV outlets.

Through humble beginnings in Connecticut, INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND released two full-length albums via Giant Records, "Razorback" (1987) and "The Visitor" (1988). Giant Records signed I.N.C. after witnessing the band's crushing live performances with the likes of EXODUS, MEGADETH and KING DIAMOND; all of which took place only six months after the INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND graduated high school. Now based in New York City, the band is writing and recording a new album (to be mixed by Fredrik Nordström), for a late spring release via the U.K.-based label Rising Records.

INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND is:

Erik Barath - Guitar
Tony Fabrizi - Guitar
Dennis Gergely - Vocals
Dennis Leeflang - Drums
Samuel J. Roon - Bass

SARGON Debut Album Available For Free Download

Panamanian death/thrashers SARGON, whose current lineup includes acclaimed extreme-metal drummer Alex Marquez (MALEVOLENT CREATION, SOLSTICE, DEMOLITION HAMMER), have made their entire debut album, entitled "In Contempt", available for free download on MySpace. It was recorded at P.T.Y. studios in Panama by Ignacio Molino, and it was mastered by Eric Koondel (CYNIC, SOILWORK, PORTAL, MALEVOLENT CREATION) at the Audio Refinery in Florida.

"In Contempt" recording lineup:

Frank Van Kwartel: Lead, Rhythm Guitars and Vocals
Edgar Candanedo: Bass
Rod Denis: Lead Guitar
Alex Marquez: Drums and Backing Vocals

Commented SARGON mainman Frank Van Kwartel: "We are really happy with the way ['In Contempt' is] sounding. It's taken time to complete, but I assure you that it sounds 100% up to par with any big-budget recordings by bands on big labels.

"The album is self-financed, so that's another reason why it's taken long to complete, but on the bright side taking so long on the album has helped perfect every little detail. So I think many of you will be pleasantly surprised. It definitely makes the 'Vehemence' demo [SARGON's debut mini-CD] sound like a piece of shit, and I'm pretty happy that we finished recording the debut within one year of the demo."

Frank continued, "This is also Alex Marquez's comeback album, and I assure you that he's in top-notch form for this one. He even says that he regards his performance on the record as one of his best. So all you Alex Marquez fans will be more than pleased. Also, I'm pretty happy that we managed to get a second guitar player to focus on the lead guitars of the album. Mr. Rod Denis comes from the school of guitar players such as Alex Skolnick, Ron Jarzombek, Marty Friedman and Scott Henderson, so this will be a very interesting mix. I played a few solos on the record and harmonies, but it was really good having somebody focusing on the lead guitar 100%.

"I wrote this record thinking about the traditional twin guitar attack, and I really had my hands full doing all the rhythms, vocals and such, so believe me you will be surprised with his performance, and this was definitively the element that the band was missing for it to go to the next level.

"You'll hear many new elements on the record. We got some real fast thrashers with more of an emphasis on speed and brutality, and we also have other tunes with a more traditional heavy metal approach on there. But the prevalent element on the record is thrash metal like South Americans know pretty damn well how to make!"

In other news, Frank Van Kwartel has relocated to the Phoenix area in the USA while he pursues studies in the recording engineering/production field.

PAUL DI\'ANNO: Quality Cleveland Footage

A two-camera video mix of former IRON MAIDEN singer Paul Di'Anno's December 24, 2010 performance at Agora in Cleveland, Ohio can be viewed below (recorded, produced and edited by Ken Kitt for Metal Fanzine, Vidz -R- Us).

The final concert of Paul Di'Anno's current U.S. tour — which is scheduled to take place tonight (Sunday, January 9) at The Cheyenne Saloon in Las Vegas, Nevada — will be broadcast live on www.hardrockradiolive.com starting at 9:00 p.m. PST.

A slideshow of images from Paul Di'Anno's January 5, 2011 concert at the Key Club in Hollywood, California can be found at this location (all pictures by Kevin Estrada).

In a recent interview with Guitar International, Di'Anno was asked if he was a candidate to replace Bruce Dickinson in IRON MAIDEN when Bruce left the band in 1993. "Not in a million years," he said. "I would've done it for three or four million dollars, with half going to UNICEF and half going to another charity.

He added, "I don't need the money. I make quite enough off my own records and the MAIDEN records.

"It's never been about the money, it's been about playing. Thanks to the fans, my children have gone off to college. I owe them everything. Thanks for supporting my drug habit, taking care of my ex-wives [Laughs], my custom Harleys and my five clubs in Brazil."

When asked if he still talks to any other members of MAIDEN, Paul replied, "Yeah, the problem is that we all live in other countries. When they came to Brazil, Stevie [Harris] and Bruce were looking for me but I was out touring. It may happen where I join them on stage someday. That's another bad press thing that says we all hate each other; it's not true. I love Steve and Dave [Murray]. Me, Steve, Dave and Clive [Burr] were like a gang and always in trouble. Anyone who slags off on MAIDEN, I'll punch them out. I quit the band because of all the ethics and politics. We all need to make money, but there's making money and exploitation of money. That my only quip that I have about MAIDEN. I'm proud to be an ex-member of IRON MAIDEN."

VOID: "R.I.P. Ben Lowe"

This message was posted on VOID MySpace page:

"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I must inform you of our tragic news. Ben Lowe, our great friend and awesome vocalist decided to take his own life some time last week. We are all devasted, shocked and confused. He was a really great guy, so full of energy and fun and we were very much looking forward to his return to London from Australia this year. Unfortunately for everybody, he has decided to take another path. Dear Ben, we hope you found what you were looking for. We will miss you very much.

Our thoughts go out to Ben's mother, brother, three sisters and their families in this most difficult of times. We also hail the great Dead Existence with whom Ben had been drumming from the beginning of their jouney.

Words seem stupid at this time but nevertheless I would like to say how highly Ben was regarded as both a man and as a musician. As we await the arrival of our new album, we read with sad satisfaction the great compliments Ben has received for his incredible vocal performance. I would like to thank him, along with Joe Burwood, Rob Archibald, Einar Sjurso, Nick Howdle-Smith and Muz Ullah for bringing this release to life.

We wholeheartedly dedicate this work to the memory of Ben Lowe and to all those who loved him as we did. We believe Ben would have wanted us to continue working together in this band and in doing so, we vow to look out for each other much better from now on.

Fans of Ben's work may be pleased to know that 'void' is not in fact his swansong recording as we were lucky enough to capture his drum performance for two new Dead Existence tracks before he went travelling. To finish this recording is now a priority for Dead Existence and for me as producer.

Thank you for reading.

Peace.

Matt Jarman".

UNEARTH Taps KILLSWITCH ENGAGE Drummer For New Album

Massachusetts metallers UNEARTH have issued the following update:

"We wanted to let everyone know that tracking for the new album has officially begun! We're currently at Zing Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts tracking drums with our sit-in drummer for the album, Justin Foley of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE/BLOOD HAS BEEN SHED.

"Foley was an obvious choice for this album for many reasons, but mainly because of his abilities and knowledge of heavy music as well as his long time friendship with the band. A decade-plus of friendship has made this an easy transition for the band, Foley and our producer/engineer [and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE guitarist] Adam [Dutkiewicz].

"In other news, we have decided to change the mixing engineer for the album to Mark Lewis (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER, TRIVIUM) from Audiohammer Studios. Mark is another longtime friend of the band and we're excited to hear what he can do with our sound on record.

"Guitarist Buz McGrath added this irrelevant comment about working with Mark: 'Mark Lewis mixed me a drink once and i woke up in a swamp covered in antifreeze.'

"As we said before, we're aiming at a mid-to-late June release for the album, followed by massive world touring.

"Below is a snapshot of the hard drive of the tunes being tracked (just working titles, of course)."

As previously reported, UNEARTH recruited drummer Branden Morgan of MISERY SIGNALS to sit behind the kit for the band's recent European dates as part of the Persistence Tour.

UNEARTH last fall parted ways with drummer Derek Kerswill due to "creative differences." The band stated at the time, "The differences between Kerswill and the band started off as subtle, but became increasingly obvious over the past few months and it was time for both parties to go their separate ways."

Capital Chaos has uploaded video footage of Massachusetts metallers UNEARTH performing the song "Black Hearts Now Reign" on October 13, 2010 at The Boardwalk in Orangevale, California.

SOULFLY Guitarist Marc Rizzo: \"Instrumental Guitar Is The Stuff I Enjoy Listening To The Most\"

SOULFLY / CAVALERA CONSPIRACY guitarist Marc Rizzo is featured in a new interview with MetalAssault.com, conducted prior to the kick-off show of his latest solo tour. An excerpt is available below.

Q: I read that it is going to be a whole new set list this time. What can the fans expect?

Marc: "Yeah, we'll mix it up. We'll do a lot of songs off of the new record, and we'll also do songs that have vocals on them, and also a couple of cover songs. So it will be a fun set list with all kinds of stuff in it."

Q: These cover songs, is this something you've always done, or have you been doing more of it recently?

Marc: "Yeah, we've always thrown in a couple of covers to try and mix it up. One night we do some Sepultura while sometimes we do SLAYER, Soulfly and whatever else we feel like playing."

Q: As you said, the majority of the show is going to be an instrumental performance. It must be something that you really enjoy doing, because you are the frontman, for a change.

Marc: "Yeah, it's nice to play these largely instrumental sets because instrumental guitar is the stuff I enjoy listening to the most. The likes of JOE SATRIANI, STEVE VAI, GREG HOWE and in general, fusion guitar music."
