CYNIC Drummer To Release Instructional DVD
 Sick Drummer Magazine will produce "It's About Time", the first-ever instructional DVD from Sean Reinert of the reunited progressive rock/metal band CYNIC. The filming is scheduled to start in November and will take place just outside San Fransisco, California.
"It's About Time" will walk you through Sean's warm-up excercises, practice routines, posture, stick selection & grip variables, pedal approach, drum tuning/tones, drum selection and much, much more. The DVD will also include the performance and explanation of several songs Sean has recorded with various projects during his amazing — and still flourishing — career. Add to that some live footage and other relative advice from Sean, and you've got yourself a very unique and valuable tool to help improve your playing!
CYNIC recently completed the inaugural Hall of Fame tour. Historic in every sense, the Hall of Fame tour, titled "Re-Traced / Re-Focused Live", saw the band performing Hall of Fame album "Focus" in its entirety, along with tracks from the group's lauded second album, "Traced in Air", and more. Direct support came from progressive masters INTRONAUT and DYSRHYTHMIA.

PRESIDENT EVIL - Neal ist der neue Sänger!
 In den letzten Monaten war es sehr ruhig um PRESIDENT EVIL. Neben einer sehr ernsthaften Erkrankung eines Bandmitglieds (alles ist wieder gut) war die Sängersuche doch schwerer als gedacht. Hier das offizielle Statement der Band: "Monatelang haben wir ohne Sänger geprobt, haben verschiedene Optionen ausprobiert und hatten dann endlich die gute Lösung mit Chris von Motorjesus. Doch zwei Bands, 300km Entfernung und zeitliche Probleme forderten ihren Tribut und auch der Versuch mit Chris ging leider schief."
"Die Band-Zukunft hing am seidenen Faden! Wieder wurde ohne Sänger geprobt, neue Stücke geschrieben und dann stand Neal bei uns im Proberaum. Nach diversen Proben stand dann fest, Neal wird unser neuer Sänger und wir geben wieder Gas. Zurzeit wird an neuen Liedern gearbeitet, allgemein geprobt und in Kürze werden wir auch die ersten bestätigten Gigs bekanntgeben, also schaut immer mal wieder vorbei. Nachdem wir nun Neal als neuen Sänger bekannt gegeben haben, hier ein erster Eindruck aus dem Proberaum. Es wird noch viel gebastelt und probiert und es ist kein offizielles Video.

BORN OF OSIRIS: New Album \'Is WAY Heavier Than Anything The Band Ever Released\'
 Chicago-based progressive metal hybrid BORN OF OSIRIS has entered BOTA Studio in Lake In The Hills, Illinois to begin recording its third album for an early 2011 release via Sumerian Records. The CD is being produced by the band with the help of BOTA's producer/engineer Don "dB" Byczynski. The CD will be mixed by Brandon Paddock.
Commented guitarist Lee McKinney: "The new album [is] WAY heavier than anything the band ever released. There is definitely nothing we've done that's anywhere near this heavy. We have moved on to seven strings and it couldn't have complemented our sound any better. We brought back the 'BOO-bounce' on this one. It's definitely a really fun and upbeat album. We've also been writing this album for a long time. We had 16 to 18 songs going into the studio and we are going to be leaving with 12 songs that we feel are the strongest.
"We all live in a house together and that has really upped the creativity level. We go from on tour to living at home together, so we are all focusing on the band constantly. Also, the addition of our new guitar player Jason Richardson has increased the amount of shred on this album. There are some really incredible guitar solos on this album from the both of us. It takes the band to a whole new level of musicality.
"This album contains an awesome mix of our most heavy, most technical, most atmospheric and most beautiful melodies ever.
"No matter what album you've liked better of ours so far, this one tops both easily."
BORN OF OSIRIS will take a break from the recording process to join ALL THAT REMAINS and labelmates ASKING ALEXANDRIA for a North American run, which kicks off on October 19. | 0 | |

SLASH And MYLES KENNEDY Perform Acoustically On Australia\'s \'Max Sessions\'; Video Available
 Legendary guitarist Slash (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES) played an ultra-rare acoustic show in August in Sydney, Australia that was filmed for Foxtel's "Max Sessions".
According to Australia's long-running rock station Triple M, Slash and singer Myles Kennedy (ALTER BRIDGE) performed a stripped-back seven-song set, featuring a mix of Slash's solo material and GN'R and VELVET REVOLVER favorites.
The intimate gig happened at the Seymour Centre in the inner-city of Sydney and Triple M's Alexis Savaidis was one of the 300 lucky fans to witness the magic.
"It was a flawless performance," stated Alexis. "Myles blew everyone away with an impressive vocal range hitting insanely high notes. And, of course, Slash was unreal! Doing those solos on an acoustic guitar is really only one for the masters and he did it so well."
She also said that Slash answered questions from fans during the set which revealed a lighter side to the guitar legend.

ANTHRAX Singer JOEY BELLADONNA Says He\'s Got Three-Quarters Of New Solo Album Done
 SplatterTribe.TV conducted an interview with ANTHRAX singer Joey Belladonna on October 12, 2010 in Louisville, Kentucky. You can now watch the chat below.
When asked about the status of his new solo album, Belladonna said, "I'd say [it's] about three-quarters done. There's probably three or four songs that need some lead breaks, three or four vocals to be done, maybe two or three drum tracks — stuff like that; little pieces. It's good; it's old-school metal. Like somebody said, 'It sounds like KING DIAMOND.' [laughs] I'm not sure it sounds like that — I don't hear it that way — [but] it's got some good riffs; a lot of good guitar stuff."
On the status of the unreleased ANTHRAX album "Worship Music" which was originally recorded with singer Dan Nelson and was supposed to come out in 2009:
"There's a chance for anything to happen as far as the songs [are concerned] at this point. I mean, you could leave a lot of it [as it is], 'cause it's really well done; there's not a whole lot of uncertainty about it. Of course, I have to come in and finish my part and do the vocals from the start, which I've already done one [song]. It seemed to fall right into place quite easy. I think there's room for any kind of adjusting any tracks. Obviously it [needs to] be remixed and stuff. But you get a second look at it, so anything could happen."
On what's preventing the material from his new solo album from appearing on the next ANTHRAX CD:
"I think there's some good songs there that we could actually definitely do [with ANTHRAX], but I don't think anybody is open to any of that kind of stuff, which I don't offer it. Even if I did something like that [and of my tracks] could be one of the better songs, no one will know that. But I don't advocate that — I don't try and get anyone to do it. I just do my thing, and they've [the other guys in ANTHRAX] got their songs. When you write stuff, it's like, 'This is our stuff.' It's hard for someone to come in with something. I've never done that with these guys. They've never offered me to like... 'Dude, you got any good stuff we could use?' It's never like that." | 0 | |

HELIX: Video Footage From \'Smash Hits Unplugged\' Recording Sessions
 Video footage from the recording sessions for "Smash Hits Unplugged", the forthcoming acoustic album from Canadian hard rock veterans HELIX, can be viewed below. Tentatively due in November, the CD was recorded at A Studios in London, Ontario with co-producer Aaron Murray and is comprised of "all our hits plus the JAMES LEROY song 'A Touch of Magic' which I've always wanted to record," states singer Brian Vollmer. He adds, "Sean Kelly (CRASH KELLY), Aaron Murray, and myself are the producers. Sean also played some guitar on it along with Brent (Doerner) and Kaleb (Duck). We're using such diverse instruments as mandolin and fiddle, plus all sorts of different percussion instruments. It's been great fun and we're very happy with the results."

JON LORD To Compose Concerto For Hammond And Tympani
 Among his many upcoming projects, Jon Lord has been commissioned to compose a concerto for Hammond organ and orchestra and with special parts for tympani.
The piece will be premiered with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra with Tom Vissgren on tympani in Oslo, Norway in the Spring of 2012.
- It is basically a concerto for Hammond and an orchestra with a very virtuoso tympany part, explains Jon Lord.
- Tom Vissgren and I had become acquaintances, and he had asked me if I would write a tympany concerto. I said ‘I am not up to writing a tympany concerto but how about this…’
- I had been thinking for years about writing a Hammond Concerto. Something I could turn up and play as part of a programme with an orchestra. It doesn’t have to be a programme of only my music, just slot me in along next to Mahler and I would be happy.
- So I thought about that, and told Vissgren that I could write a really virtuoso tympany part to go alongside it. We took the idea to the management of the Oslo Philharmonics and it’s now commissioned for the Spring of 2012.
- I’m getting on well with this and it’s coming along nicely.
How does Jon Lord begin the daunting process of piecing together a new concerto?
- I started thinking about something like a Hammond Concerto several years ago, so there are scraps of paper with question marks on in various files all around my music room. The same kind of paper that I had once that had at the top written ‘Telemann?’, and then ‘Experiment with this’, or something, which became ‘Telemann Experiment’.
- There’s lots of bits of paper like that, and most of them find a home after a while, especially if I’ve put them away for a month, 6 months or a year or whatever. You get them out again and play it on the piano, thinking ‘that’s actually not bad, I quite like that little idea.’ So that’s how these things evolve.
Is there a theme to this new concerto for Hammond and tympany?
- Not really. I am trying to write it to be something that I would enjoy playing myself, just as a soloist, not on the piano, but on this weird and wonderful thing that I’ve been welded to for the last 40 years. Hopefully something that will say something about the Hammond and say something about the way I view the orchestra.
- Hopefully it will also be very exciting because the tympany will have a great thrashing role in the background. What we’re going to do when we play it is put the Hammond at the back next to the tympany, so I am up there with all the percussion and the tympany. This will be huge fun. I’m looking forward to that enormously. But there is no real theme as such, just ongoing ideas that I have about the Hammond’s role in things.

- No, I don’t do that anymore. My back won’t allow me to.

WHILE HEAVEN WEPT: \'Triumph:Tragedy:Transcendence\' DVD Teasers Available
 Virginia's epic doom metal unit WHILE HEAVEN WEPT will release a live album, "Triumph:Tragedy:Transcendence - Live At The Hammer Of Doom Festival", on November 8 via Cruz Del Sur Music. The release is a stunning 24-track audio capture of WHILE HEAVEN WEPT's performance at the Posthalle in Würzburg, Germany on February 6, 2010.
"Triumph:Tragedy:Transcendence - Live At The Hammer Of Doom Festival" will be made available as a CD/DVD two-disc set in a quantity of 3,000 copies. The DVD program will be region-free, so it can be played anywhere without incident. In addition to the CD/DVD set, there will be a limited-edition 2xLP set released through a joint collaboration between Cruz Del Sur Music, High Roller Records, and Iron Kodex Records in a quantity of 1,000 copies. This set will be pressed on heavy vinyl, and will be housed in an equally heavy, gorgeous gatefold sleeve filled to the brim with photos from the band's weekend in Germany, including some never-before-seen shots by Hans-Martin Issler. LEAVES\' EYES\'s Liv Kristine Wins Germany\'s Bottwartal Marathon
 LEAVES' EYES vocalist Liv Kristine has won Germany's Bottwartal Marathon in her grade. The run is over 10 km in distance and every year more than 5,000 runners and many visitors come to the Bottwar valley to join the contest.
The Bottwartal Marathon is a marathon in Großbottwar (north of Stuttgart), held since 2004 in mid-October on a Sunday. Seven sports clubs from the towns along the route are involved in the organization.

W.A.S.P. Gig Turns Bloody As Security Guard Loses Ear
 According to The Local, a drunk 40-year-old man bit off a security guard's ear during last night's (Friday, October 15) W.A.S.P. concert in Örebro, Sweden.
The man was detained by police at 11 p.m. at the Conventum arena in Örebro and was booked on suspicion of aggravated assault.
In addition to biting the guard's ear, the suspect also allegedly verbally threatened the guard, according to the Nerikes Allehanda daily newspaper.

Memorial Service For GOTTHARD Singer Held In Switzerland: Swiss TV Report Available
 Today's (October 17) edition of the "Glanz & Gloria" Swiss TV entertainment show featured a segment on the the public memorial service for GOTTHARD singer Steve Lee, which was held this morning at the St. Gotthard Hospice on the Saint Gotthard Pass in Switzerland. The German-language report, which features footage of the band and Steve's girlfriend, Brigitte Voss-Balzarini, as they came to mourn and remember Lee with thousands of fans in wintery, subzero weather, can be viewed below.

THE HAUNTED To Enter Studio Tomorrow

THE OCEAN - \'Anthropocentric\' neuer Song \'The Grand Inquisitor II: Roots & Locusts\' online!
 THE OCEAN haben die Aufnahmen zu ihrem kommenden Album "Anthropocentric" beendet. Aufgenommen wurde im Studio Mecanique in La Chaux-de-Fonds in der Schweiz, also an demselben Ort, wo auch schon Heliocentric aufgenommen und abgemischt wurde. Das Album wurde von Svante Forsbäck in Helsinki gemastert. "Anthropocentric" kommt am 9. November 2010 via Metal Blade Records in den Handel. Jetzt wurde der neue Song "The Grand Inquisitor II: Roots & Locusts" zum probehören online gestellt.
