MEGADETH DAVE MUSTAINE: SLAYER Has \'The Best Live Show That I\'ve Ever Seen\'
 Before the Jägermeister Music Tour's opening night in Dallas, SLAYER's Kerry King, MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine, and ANTHRAX's Scott Ian chatted backstage with SPIN.com about what's changed over the past two decades, an upcoming U.S. "Big Four" tour with METALLICA, and their "timeless" sounds. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
SPIN.com: So who puts on the best show [on the tour]?
Mustaine: The best live show that I've ever seen is SLAYER. Their energy is just over the top. We try to play our best. But, as far as the energy and stuff, I've never seen anybody do what Kerry and SLAYER can do.
King: We're all totally different animals. I call MEGADETH nerd metal — not detrimentally, but they're guitar geeks. They blow away the guitar geeks. They're very good at what they do. And then you have guitar geeks come look at us, and they're like, "Yeah, it's kind of heavy." But the intricacies of the leads and stuff? C'mon, that's MEGADETH's specialty. We're just angry and throwing and spitting aggression. All four band (including METALLICA) started from one place and evolved into a four-headed monster. There's four very different things happening.
Mustaine: Same body; four different heads. That's a great way to put it.
SPIN.com: Who's the best guitarist on this tour?
King: It's got to be either Dave or [MEGADETH guitarist Chris] Broderick.
Ian: Yeah, I'd say either Dave or Rob [Caggiano] from our band. From a pure technical standpoint as players, they're insane. It's just like they're using a whole other language that I could never even learn.
Mustaine: Everyone's such a talent. Kerry's right hand is just so fast and articulate. And Scott has all these melodies. Everybody has their own niche. Chris Broderick is a better guitar player than I am because he's learned — I don't know the names of the scales or any of that shit. I'm self-taught, and to a degree that's what makes all us as raw as we are. I remember when Kerry and I played together — Kerry was in MEGADETH for a while when we couldn't secure another guitar player — and just the two of us playing together, it was just so cool. We were from two different worlds, but we were converging on this new style. And I knew that something was going to happen. When Kerry came over and helped us out — those concerts are legendary. Watch them on YouTube. The filming is shit. But the concerts were legendary.
Ian: You've got all these guys with just amazing right hands on this tour. The rhythm capabilities of everyone is second-to-none.

TORTURE KILLER Working On New Material
 Finnish death metallers TORTURE KILLER have issued the following update:
"The tours and shows to support our third album, 'Sewers', are now complete. Doing a full list of dates here back home, European tour with DEMONICAL, a Russian tour, homeland festivals and the Baltic dates with CANNIBAL CORPSE behind us, we will now look into the future. We have a bunch of songs at demo phase [and] will start working on them in the coming weeks.
"2011 will not see a new full-length but we are doing something for sure, a mini-CD or a seven inch. More on that as things move forward.
"Thank you to all of you who came to witness our shows."
"Sewers" came out in 2009 via Dynamic Arts Records.

TURISAS Releases Cover Of BLACK SABBATH\'s \'Supernaut\' As Digital Single
 Finnish "battle metal" warriors TURISAS have released their cover version of the BLACK SABBATH classic "Supernaut" a a digital single.
Since the feedback to TURISAS' version of "Supernaut" on Metal Hammer U.K.'s BLACK SABBATH tribute covermount CD was so positive, the band and Century Media Records decided to release an extended version of the track, featuring an additional one minute that wasn't available on the previously released version of the song.
TURISAS' "Supernaut" is available now on all digital European and North American platforms. An Australian release will follow on October 8.

SONIC SYNDICATE – Facebook Profile Deleted
 The music video from Sweden's SONIC SYNDICATE for the latest single 'Turn It Up!' from the album We Rule the Night has now been leaked onto YouTube and other video resources. Due to the offensive content of the clip it has been taken offline as quickly as it is being uploaded in most places.
After posting the video on their Facebook profile, the social networking group has deleted the band’s account, stating:
Facebook: You posted content that violates Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities (this includes any obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit photos, as well as any photos that depict graphic violence. We also remove content, photo or written, that threatens, intimidates, harasses, or brings unwanted attention or embarrassment to an individual or group of people)
Swedish national newspaper Expressen picked up on the story, posting the following article here.
Frontman Nathan J Boggs comments:
“Our new video entitled 'Turn It Up' seems to have been prematurely released all over the world wide web. Within just a few short hours the video spread to a countless number of websites and was banned on 90 % of all websites which include a permanent deletion of our official Facebook page.
When we filmed this video we of course we wanted to make a video that would shock the world and what better way to do it then with sex, drugs, blood and rock and roll!
But, along with the video comes some very strong lyrical content that takes us way deeper then what you're acutely visualizing in the new video.
We hope that everyone can take one step back and remember that along with a new video comes a new song which indeed has lyrics and meaning,
Sonic Syndicate in no way supports alcohol abuse or drug usage. Turn it Up is no doubt a party song and designed to be the soundtrack to a great night out. However, the lyrics hold a deeper meaning and are based on a true story of a girl who has gone into a downward spiral of addiction and self destruction hurting herself and those around her. We purposely made a video to be entertaining but we also want to highlight these negativities with hopes of making people think before they go to far."

Create The Artwork For NORTHER\'s New Album
 Finnish melodic death metallers NORTHER and the German edition of Metal Hammer magazine have teamed up to give you the chance to create the artwork for the upcoming NORTHER album, "Circle Regenerated", which is set for an early 2011 release.
Commented the band: "The NORTHER crew is about to enter Astia Studios in October to record our sixth full-length album with master producer Anssi Kippo (CHILDREN OF BODOM). This time we wanted to do something different with our upcoming album artwork. We wanted to involve our fans in a creative way! Therefore we've decided to team up with Metal Hammer Germany to announce an open competition — to design our next album cover art!
"If you have a steady hand and can draw or paint like Da Vinci, take part and submit your work to our label Century Media until October 15th. We and the Century Media guys will select the top 10 candidates, who will enter the next stage of the contest which will be a public voting on Century Media's home page. Metal Mind To Reissue Jon Nödtveidt\'s DE INFERNALI Project
 Jon Nödtveidt was best known for being the founding member of the Swedish black/death metal group DISSECTION, which was strongly associated with Anti-Cosmic Satanism and the occult. The group disbanded in 2006 after Nödtveidt after his sudden death. Not many people know that Jon was involved in a number of musical projects, such as THE BLACK, NIFELHEIM, OPHTHALAMIA, SIREN’S YELL and TERROR (with members of AT THE GATES). DE INFERNALI was also one of those projects but this time the music ventured into an entirely different dimension of brutality…
De Infernali was an extremely short-lived affair, lasting only two years in total. It started in 1996, when Nödtveidt begun experimenting with dark ambient sounds, writing music for no particular purpose. It wasn’t until his roommate Damien Midvinter was let into this project that De Infernali became a more serious creation (which it was never intended to be in the first place). Nödtveidt wrote the core of the material, while Midvinter contributed the songs 'Ave Satan' and 'Sign Of The Dark', and helped with some of the other compositions. Soon the duo had enough tracks for a full-length album. They decided to record it with the famous Swedish producer and musician Dan Swäno (known from working with THERION, OPETH, KATATONIA, MARDUK, BLOODBATH and others) who also did the vocals on 'Sign Of The Dark'. The album was released by Nuclear Blast in 1997. The musical content of Symphonia De Infernali left a lot of listeners familiar with Nödtveidt’s previous works (especially Dissection) genuinely puzzled. The songs were completely deprived of any guitar sounds, focusing on dark ambience and haunting electronics. Some of the tracks were purely piano-driven (like the opening 'Into The Labyrinths Of Desolation', as well as 'Orcus Lursus' and 'Revival/Paroxysmal Winds/Forever Gone'), other were more mechanical ('Atomic Age', 'Liberation'), taking a slightly more industrial direction. Although not really associated with metal music in general, the album showcased a unique black metal atmosphere. The lyrics were strongly connected to Nödtveidt’s beliefs, dealing with themes of Satanism, Anti-Christianity and death. De Infernali disbanded shortly after releasing their debut offering.
Symphonia De Infernali remains an obscure, yet fascinating release, revealing a side of Nödtveidt that not many of his fans knew before. This exclusive reissue brings back a true dark ambient gem in all its despicable glory. The new digipak edition of the album is limited to 2000 copies. Remastered using tube technology, digitally edited on a golden disc. Metal Mind Productions set the release date for October 7th in Europe and December 7th in USA (via MVD).

PHANTASMA To Release New Album On Halloween
 Book Of Phantasma is 44 minutes of punishing, blasphemous, hate filled anthems, in the vein of such hellish acts as BEHEMOTH and ZYKLON, with each track representing a dark, haunting chapter of the menacing Book Of Phantasma.
Book Of Phantasma demonstrates how Phantasma, made up of vocalist and guitarist Amriel, bassist Darzagh and drummer Rhyak, have progressed, both in technicality and song writing ability, since their last, critically acclaimed release, Alternativa 666 (EP), also released by Apocrypha Records.
John MacMurphy, who manages Apocrypha Records commented: “Much like Alternativa 666, their first release with us, Book Of Phantasma continues to impress with its the dark melodies over technical brutal riffs . These guys really perfected their own modern take on the blackened death metal genre.”

NELSON To Release \'Lightning Strikes Twice\' In November
 "Lightning Strikes Twice", the new album from NELSON, is scheduled for release on November 5 in Europe via Frontiers Records.
On September 29, 1991 NELSON reached the height of the U.S. single chart with their evergreen hit "(Can't Live Without Your) Love And Affection". Their music has stood the test of time and now 20 years later Matthew and Gunnar Nelson explore fresh creative territory in the present with their new album, "Lightning Strikes Twice".
The new album goes straight back to the absolute brilliance of NELSON's first album, hence the title, featuring an amazing set of songs that are going to restore the faith in NELSON.
"After the Rain" was the debut multi-platinum album by NELSON in the early 1990s. TOKYO BLADE: New Album Title Announced
 The newly revamped lineup of the NWOBHM band TOKYO BLADE — featuring Andy Boulton (guitar) John Wiggins (guitar), Andy Wrighton (bass) and Steve Pierce (drums), alongside new singer Nicolaj "Nick" Ruhnow (IRONY, VOIVITTU, DOMAIN, HELLFORT) — has set "1000 Men Strong" as the tentative title of its new album. The CD, which will be mixed in "approximately three weeks," is being helmed by veteran British producer Chris Tsangarides, who has previously worked with THIN LIZZY, Y&T, FREE, BLACK SABBATH, IAN GILLAN, JUDAS PRIEST, OZZY OSBOURNE and ANVIL, among others.
Commented the band: "We are treating ['1000 Men Strong'] as [our] third album, or the third album that should have been, so to speak. We view it as the natural follow-up to [1984's] 'Night Of The Blade' as the songs hark back to the glory days of NWOBHM.
The group added, "We have deliberately recorded the whole thing in a very live manner in just over a week (real time) as albums were recorded [back in the early '80s]. No keyboards, no bullshit — just 100% heavy metal helped considerably by the talent of our new vocalist, Nicolaj, and classic heavy metal producer Chris Tsangarides."

Singer RONNY MUNROE Quits LILLIAN AXE
 Former METAL CHURCH frontman Ronny Munroe has announced his departure from LILLIAN AXE — less than four months after he joined the Louisiana-based band.
"I'm sorry to announce that I have had to step down from my position as lead vocalist of LILLIAN AXE," Munroe writes in a statement. "My commitments to my other bands have made it impossible to give LILLIAN AXE the time and dedication that it truly deserves.

HOLLYWOOD KILLERZ To Release \'Dead On Arrival\' In December
 Italian sleaze rockers HOLLYWOOD KILLERZ have inked a deal with logic(il)logic for the release of their new album, "Dead On Arrival". The CD, which is due on December 11, "is a major step in the history of this band," states lead singer Harry. "It really represents ourselves and what we've been through to become what we are today. SHADE EMPIRE Members To Release THENCE Debut
 THENCE, the new Finnish band featuring SHADE EMPIRE members Juha Sirkkiä and Erno Räsänen, will release its debut album, "These Stones Cry From The Earth", in late 2010/early 2011 via an as-yet-undetermined record label. The drum tracks for the CD were laid down in 2009 by Sami Niittykoski (SHADE EMPIRE, SILENTIUM, MORIA). The album, which is a nearly hour-long epic consisting of only one song. was mixed by Aksu Hanttu (ENTWINE, POISONBLACK, KORPIKLAANI) and mastered by Hannu Honkonen at Noisework Productions.
According to a press release, THENCE's music could be described as "a combination of rock, metal, prog and also a touch of jazz and blues" with similarities to such bands as KATATONIA, ANATHEMA, PORCUPINE TREE and PINK FLOYD.

THE YOUNG GODS return with new album 'Everybody knows'
 The Young Gods return with "Everybody knows", their newest album which will be available from November 5th on in Europe on Two Gentlemen Records. The Young Gods (TYG) is a Swiss Post-industrial band. The band's lineup has generally consisted of a vocalist, a sampler operator and a drummer. Their instrumentation often includes sampled electric guitars, drums, keyboards, and other samples. The lyrics are depicted in English, French and German.
Their name is taken from an early EP by the no wave/industrial rock band Swans. Artists influenced by The Young Gods include Mike Patton, Sepultura, The Edge (as stated in U2 by U2), Devin Townsend, Econoline Crush and David Bowie. When Bowie was asked in 1995 if his album "Outside" was influenced by Nine Inch Nails, he answered: "No. I was influenced by a Swiss band called The Young Gods."

CATAMENIA: Lineup Changes Announced
 Guitarist Riku Hopeakoski of Finnish melodic black metallers CATAMENIA has issued the following update:
"I'm sad to inform you all about huge and unfortunate lineup changes in the band. Ari [Nissilä, guitar/vocals], Toni [Kansanoja, bass/backing vocals], Kari [Vähäkuopus, clean vocals] and Mikko [Nevanlahti, drums] decided to part ways with CATAMENIA because of their project bands, businesses, lack of inspiration and time, personal issues, etc.
[Addressing now-former members directly] "I had a great time with you and hope nothing but the best for you. We'll always be true friends, no question about it! You've been my family for years and you will always be part of it, now and in future! There are no words to describe, but only: thousands of sincere thanks from the bottom of my heart, guys — it was a damn awesome journey with great unforgettable memories! THANK YOU!!!
"But now some happier news. The first new attachment for the band is our ex-bassist Mikko Hepo-oja. He was our bassist during 'Winternight Tragedies' era. ANNIHILATOR\'s \'King Of The Kill\' Reissued With Bonus Tracks
 "King Of The Kill", the 1994 album from Canadian melodic thrash metal pioneers ANNIHILATOR, has been reissued in Europe.
Following the recent release of ANNIHILATOR's critically acclaimed, self-titled new album, Earache Records is reissuing six LPs from the band's illustrious back catalogue. "King Of The Kill" is the fourth full-length effort in the series to be released, following "Carnival Diablos", "Criteria For A Black Widow" and "Waking The Fury".

LORDI Drummer Gets The Ax For Unmasking Himself
 Finnish heavy metal monsters LORDI have released the following statement:
"It is our unfortunate task to inform that Kita [drums] is no longer a member of LORDI.
"Kita has made a decision to pursue his own career publicly as himself, without his alter ego Kita. This is in direct conflict with one of the cornerstones of LORDI's image. Therefore it is not possible for him to continue as a member of the band anymore.
"LORDI will continue as always, masked and costumed, consisting of monster personas. Also, the upcoming tour will happen as planned.
"We thank Kita for the years he has been an important part of the band and our successes and wish him all the best in his future."

CRADLE OF FILTH Frontman Checks In
 Vocalist Dani "Filth" Davey of British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH has issued the following update:
"Dear, dear FILTH-ites,
"It seems autumn is well and truly upon us, judging by the deluge of rain and sloppy leaves dancing across the manor lawn. Still, it means the album and that most joyous of occasions, Halloween, are just around the corner, barely a skeleton of a month away.
"We've been particularly busy here in the CRADLE camp in the few weeks or so, firstly with working towards the completion of all the album formats artwork-wise, and secondly, with the associated press trips and heavy phoner schedule that a new release always brings. It has been absolutely rampant, but fun, and very surreal.
"Germany was great as all the interviews the first day were conducted from the skyline bar of the hotel, affording us 180-degree views of Berlin on a warm September afternoon and a steady stream of chilled Chardonnay and thick German beer. Then the evening saw us ensconced in an Addams Family-style kitschy eatery called 'White Trash' (uncanny…) with a flock of journalists, including the near-legendary Thomas Clausen, chugging back cocktails and reminiscing on Eighties metal, as gourmet burgers and onion rings the size of your head were devoured. The next day interviews were held two doors down at the Last Cathedral bar, with its faux medieval vibe and dungeon-esque interior. Incidentally this will be the venue for the band's visit on October 29th, when we will be accompanying an official playback of our new album, following a live appearance on German MTV for our latest video, 'Forgive Me Father (I Have Sinned)'.
"The following week saw Paul [Allender, guitar] and I take in Finland, France and Belgium, with a much-looked-forward-to trip to Milan being cancelled due to the bloody French air strike… still, a day off in Brussels all the more made up for our loss of temperate weather, spaghetti and tutti fruity ice-cream; getting slowly spannered outside a very posh hotel watching the paparazzi, being taken for a great Thai dinner and then winding up the evening by seeing 'The Runaways' at a cinema in English being order of the day.
"Still, there's the States to come in a few weeks with a mini launch-party attached, plus a whole heap of radio interviews and photo shoots in the meantime, from home and from inside the foul murk of London.
"Which reminds me, for all those who thought I had glitter on my face during the recording of our last video, think again, it was actually road gravel! Slightly more macho I think, a face full of grit and dirt!
"The ultimate fan edition of the album is looking really stunning, too. A couple of days ago I finished putting the 64-page booklet together with Peaceville's resident graphic artist Matt Vickerstaff, and it looks unbelievable! Aside from the huge high-quality artwork and photos littered throughout, I've written a short story of the album to accompany the lyrics, and there's plenty of nifty extras to go with it.
"And lastly, thank-you to everybody who has voted for me on the Suffolk Icons web page (Suffolk Icons), I know it's a bit of a laugh and that no-one really can compare to the grandeur of ducks or a disused Victorian swimming pool, but it is really an eye-opener for a lot of people who live in my county who have never heard of CRADLE OF FILTH or indeed crypt-crawling death-rock (lol!), or the absolute drivel spouted on the web page about me and mine. And for of all out there in the great cosmic beyond who haven't voted for me yet, I hereby promise that if I become Major of Ipswich, England, I'm turning it into Halloween Town and you're all welcome to visit! So there, vote!
"And so, my ennobled peers, I guess that's all I have for now. Look out for another taster from the album come Wednesday, a new, fully operational website on the near horizon, plus all the readable interviews that should surface following our intrepid voyages abroad."

 THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE sind zurück! Mit ihren neuen Allbum "Pins And Needles" verfeinern Chibi und die Jungs ihren unverwechselbaren Sound, eine Kombination von 80er Elektronik, harten Gitarren, einem Schuss Düsternis und ganz großen Melodien. Veröffentlicht wurde "Pins And Needles" am 14. September 2010. Und jetzt wurde auch das neue Video zum Song "In The Dark" online gestellt.

THE NIBIRUAN Working On New Songs
 inland's THE NIBIRUAN, featuring former AMORAL guitarist Silver Ots, guitarist Lauri Koskenniemi and SHEAR bassist Eerik Purdon, have issued the following update:
"First of all, it's been shit long, since we've posted anything here, so pardon for the lack of communications! It really was a hectic summer for all of the guys and a lot has happened since springtime. We threw a couple of very successful gigs including a really cool outdoors-festival thing in Kymi and an amazingly intense night with SHEAR in Helsinki. Silver and I have been also working with new songs and we certainly have some aces up our sleeves which we are anxious to reveal on future gigs. POW! - I say.

SLASH Adds \'Welcome To The Jungle\' To Setlist
 Legendary guitarist Slash (VELVET REVOLVER, ex-GUNS N' ROSES) has added the GUNS N' ROSES classic "Welcome To The Jungle" to the setlist on his current solo tour — marking the first time he has reportedly played the song in many years.
Fan-filmed video footage of Slash performing "Welcome To The Jungle" on Friday, October 1 at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada can be viewed below.

MY FUNERAL To Release \'Carnal Obduction\' In November
 Finnish thrashers MY FUNERAL will release their debut album, "Carnal Obduction", on November 10 via Violent Journey Records. The CD was recorded at Studio Watercastle by Arttu Sarvanne and was mastered by Hannu Honkonen at Studio Noisework.

 Finnish "dark" metal band 0 X í S T has posted a new demo song, "Old World Vanished", on its MySpace page. The track is taken from the group's new promo CD-R, which the band has recorded in order to prepare for its full-length debut.
0 X í S T's first album will be recorded in early 2011.

DESCENSUS: Two New Songs Posted Online
 After a five-year period of silence, Danish melodic death metallers DESCENSUS have posted two brand new tracks on their MySpace page. "Death Affection" and "Slaves Of Conformity" were recorded at CB studios in Holsted with producer Christian Bonde and will be featured on the band's debut album, which DESCENSUS is planning to record this winter. | 0 | |
