LACUNA COIL: \'Shallow Life\' Release Dates Announced

Italian hard rock band LACUNA COIL, which offers the dual vocals of male singer Andrea Ferro and female vocalist Cristina Scabbia, will release its much-anticipated new album, "Shallow Life", via Century Media Records on the following dates:

Europe: April 20
North America: April 21

The CD was recorded in September/October at NRG Studios in North Hollywood, California with producer Don Gilmore, who has previously worked with LINKIN PARK, TRAPT, AVRIL LAVIGNE, GOOD CHARLOTTE, THE VERONICAS, PEARL JAM, TRUST COMPANY and DURAN DURAN. Songtitles set to appear on the album include "I Like It", "Spellbound", "I Survive", "I Won't Tell You", "Kill My Dream" and "The Maze".

Commented female singer Cristina Scabbia: "'Shallow Life' is a natural metamorphosis from within the band; we explored different musical territories while maintaining our own style. A mix of old and new, fast and slow... light and dark. The album production is incredibly powerful and has a beautiful purity to it. Hopefully listeners will feel the same sort of connection that we have to these songs. It would be great to think that we have produced songs that will make anybody either think, smile or cry. 'Shallow Life' has forced us to challenge ourselves. It represents the way we see ourselves in the days we live in through truth, love and lies."

Added male singer Andrea Ferro: "'Shallow Life' is just a mirror of what you see out there, it's something you should first see inside of you. It's a new cycle of songs and it's more clearly ourselves."

"It's definitely us, but the energy is completed different and the whole album feels more 'rock,'" Scabbia recently told Revolver magazine." I think that's because, as an artist, you travel a lot and you listen to the radio and you're exposed to all these different styles that rub off on you. To me, this is the perfect mixture between our old European sound and something more modern." She added, "Some of it's very heavy. The most amazing this is, we've been able to improve everything about LACUNA COIL without taking away anything good or doing something that doesn't belong."

Regarding the band's collaboration with Gilmore, Cristina said, "He helped us all find our strengths and work with them to be even better. Sometimes when you're used to something, you get stuck in your own process and you don't see the big picture. So when someone from the outside comes in, they can give you a completely different opinion that you don't have because you're always stuck in there."

"Shallow Life" will be LACUNA COIL's first concept album as all the songs address superficiality and the discontent and unhappiness it can cause. "It's more against the superficial lifestyle in general, but not regarding celebrities," singer Andrea Ferro previously told Rock Sound magazine. "You can talk about celebrities, but you can also talk about everyday people. It's more a reflection on life itself, and especially on the way you lead your life in a superficial way."

Guitarist IRA BLACK Quits LIZZY BORDEN

Guitarist Ira Black has left the California-based metal band LIZZY BORDEN. The axeman, who has previously played with METAL CHURCH, VICIOUS RUMORS and HEATHEN, recently joined PROPHESY, the new U.S./German group featuring vocalist Brian O'Connor (ex-VICIOUS RUMORS) and guitarist Fabian Schwarz (PARADOX, RUNAMOK, THE NEW BLACK), but insists that his involvement with the new project has nothing to do with his departure from LIZZY BORDEN. "After all we've been through together, we remain friends, even though we didn't always see eye-to-eye with the personal and business dealings with the band," he said in a statement that was released to BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "We had some good times and we made some great music together that I am proud of. It was an honor to play with them, as I grew up as a teen listening to their first couple of albums and I will cherish our time together. Now it is time for me to move on and do something new. I am looking to the future with my new band PROPHESY, and I am also working on a solo record, called 'BlackHouse', that will have notable guest musicians and friends, including Marten Andersson from LIZZY BORDEN playing bass on a song. So I wish the band the best of luck."

LIQUID TRIO EXPERIMENT: \'When The Keyboard Breaks: Live In Chicago\' CD Available

2009 will see Ytsejam Records branch out with releases by select DREAM THEATER side projects on their new Lazy Tomato Entertainment label.

Coming this spring will be the long awaited live CD and DVD releases by LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT.

But to whet your appetite until those titles are ready to go, the label will launch Ytsejam's side-project offspring with the release of the LIQUID TRIO EXPERIMENT 2 "When The Keyboard Breaks: Live In Chicago" CD.

This is the infamous "jamarathon" which took place at LTE's June 25, 2008 show in Chicago when Jordan Rudess' keyboard broke down. Mike Portnoy, John Petrucci and Tony Levin proceeded to play and improvise almost one hour of insane musical madness to a stunned audience.

This was an unbelievably unique evening that can now be shared for those not fortunate enough to have been in attendance that very special night.

SKOLD VS. KMFDM: Debut Album Details Revealed

SKOLD VS. KMFDM, the new collaboration between Tim Skold (SHOTGUN MESSIAH, KMFDM, MARILYN MANSON) and Sascha Konietzko (KMFDM), will release its self-titled debut album on April 7 via KMFDM Records.

"Skold Vs. KMFDM" was performed, engineered, recorded and mixed by Sascha Konietzko at KommandoZentrale in Hamburg, Germany and by Tim Skold at The Unabomber Shack in Studio City, California.

This collaboration was conceived in June 2008 and completed by early October. Notably the entire album was recorded without the two artists ever being on the same continent, much less in the same room. Konietzko explains: "We constantly bounced stuff back and forth over the [FTP] server, and with a time-difference of nine hours between us, it turned out that one of us slept while the other one worked and vice-versa, and thus we got two full days of work done in just 24 hours."

Before they began exchanging files, Konietzko and Skold agreed to some ground rules for the album, which included a no-guitars proviso and a "no real drum kits" stipulation. Skold elaborates: "This is a very electronic album but the majority of the instruments used are actually analog and many of them are not even electric. What we decided to intentionally avoid this time was the traditional electric guitar. This was done to confuse and bewilder our fans. We like to keep them on their toes and many of them appreciate the challenge."

SKOLD VS. KMFDM is Tim Skold on vocals, programming, live percussion, synth bass and Sascha Konietzko on vocals, programming, analogue synthesizers and sequencers and bass.

The twenty-two tracks on the album are as follows:

01. Why Me (4:29)
02. Bloodsport Interlude (1:07)
03. Antigeist (5:13)
04. Alkohol Interlude (0:52)
05. Bloodsport (5:06)
06. Error 404 Interlude (1:58)
07. Love Is Like (4:07)
08. Antigeist Interlude (1:07)
09. It's Not What (4:14)
10. Love Is Like Interlude (1:01)
11. A Common Enemy (4:59)
12. Porn, Kitsch And Firearms Interlude (1:40)
13. Error 404 (3:36)
14. All Or Nothing Interlude (0:57)
15. Porn, Kitsch And Firearms (4:36)
16. It's Not What Interlude (1:22)
17. Gromky (5:17)
18. A Common Enemy Interlude (1:29)
19. Alkohol (5:28)
20. Gromky Interlude (1:43)
21. All Or Nothing (5:03)
22. Why Me Interlude (2:25)

Total playing time is 67:58.

It\'s Official: No OZZFEST This Year

Ozzy Osbourne is currently in the studio in Los Angeles co-producing his tenth studio album with Kevin Churko. The new CD is the rock and roll legend's follow-up to 2007's "Black Rain" which debuted in the Top Ten on the album charts in 11 countries and spawned Ozzy's first-ever #1 Active Rock track "I Don't Wanna Stop" (which also sat atop the Heritage Rock chart for more than 20 weeks). The two-time Grammy Award winner has decided that he will not be touring until he has a new album in stores (currently projected to be Thanksgiving 2009). METAL CHURCH Singer To Release Solo Album In April -

METAL CHURCH vocalist Ronny Munroe will release his solo album, "The Fire Within", in April. Several demo tracks which are expected to appear on the CD are available for streaming on Munroe's MySpace page.

Ronny Munroe's solo band includes METAL CHURCH guitarist Rick Van Zandt on guitar.

According to Tacoma Weekly, METAL CHURCH guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof had encouraged Munroe for some time to do a solo project. With METAL CHURCH's plans to tour in support of their new album on hold, this offered an opportunity for Munroe to do so.

Munroe has 15 original songs to choose from for the upcoming CD, which is being co-produced by the singer and Vanderhoof.

Munroe said these songs show a wider vocal range, bigger choruses and different melodies compared to his work in METAL CHURCH.

He writes the lyrics and comes up with melody lines, while Van Zandt is writing some of the music.

MY DYING BRIDE: New Album Audio Preview Available

U.K. godfathers of doom MY DYING BRIDE will release their new album, "For Lies I Sire", on March 23 via Peaceville Records. The follow-up to 2006's "A Line of Deathless Kings" was recorded with longtime producer Mags.

Check out an audio preview at this location.

"For Lies I Sire" track listing:

01. Fall With Me
02. My Body, A Funeral
03. The Lies I Sire
04. Bring Me Victory
05. Echoes From A Hollow Soul
06. ShadowHaunt
07. Santuario Di Sangue
08. A Chapter in Loathing
09. Death Triumphant

In a recent interview with Blissfulviolet of Beyond The Dark Horizon, MY DYING BRIDE vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe stated about the band's upcoming ninth studio album, "Naturally, we think it's our best work to date and has a sort of 'new-meets-old' sound; the violins giving a nod to our past and the new riffs and vocals showing the way forward. It is quite possibly the most depressing thing we've created to date, and all the more wonderful for it."

Asked how he feels the new CD differs from MY DYING BRIDE's last studio album, "A Line of Deathless Kings", Aaron replied, "Would you believe it, it's even darker? I've pushed the vocals further, finding more melodies, as have the guitars, and, of course, the violin has added a deep range of feeling. It's quite a fresh, melodic sound despite being utterly despondent."

OLD MAN\'S CHILD: New Album Title, Release Date Revealed

Century Media Records has set a May 19 North American release date for the new album from Norwegian melodic black metal masters OLD MAN'S CHILD, entitled "Slaves Of The World". The band, which is led by guitarist/vocalist Galder (also in DIMMU BORGIR), recorded the CD last fall at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden with producer Fredrik Nordström (DIMMU BORGIR, ARCH ENEMY, IN FLAMES, etc.), who had previously worked with the band on the "In Defiance Of Existence" (2003) and "Vermin" (2005) albums. The nine-song effort features Peter Wildoer (DARKANE, PESTILENCE) on drums.

Commented Peter: "After having being asked to be part of the new OMC album, I obviously went back and listened to the previous releases of the band, so I now am able to say that in my opinion, these new nine songs are the best material I have heard of the band so far. There is a lot of more variety going on and the album will sound bigger than any other OMC record before. As far as my performance goes, this is probably the best drumming I have ever recorded so far. I am extremely happy and proud of the session and there's a lot more double bass and blast beats on here than you have normally heard me doing, so look out for this great record!"

OLD MAN'S CHILD's last album, "Vermin", was released in October 2005 via Century Media Records. The follow-up to 2003's "In Defiance of Existence" was recorded at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden and features a guest appearance by TESTAMENT/DRAGONLORD guitarist Eric Peterson. Artwork was handled by Set<'H>

ISIS: New Album Artwork, Track Listing Revealed

ISIS, the innovative Los Angeles-by-way-of-Boston-based band, will release its fifth full-length album, "Wavering Radiant", on May 5 via Ipecac Recordings. The CD, produced by Joe Baressi (TOOL, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE), will receive a limited-edition vinyl release on April 21. TOOL's Adam Jones contributed guitar to two songs from the LP.

Guitarist/vocalist Aaron Turner recently discussed the new album with Billboard, saying "This is a better sonic representation of what the band actually sounds like. In the past I think some of the recordings were a little too clean in their final form. There was something about the energy that seemed to be lacking. It seems to feel more like us than anything else has."

Drummer Aaron Harris added, "I feel a sense of completion with this record that I've never felt before. We spent more time creating this record than we have with any other, and I feel in my heart that this record is in many ways our best."

Cover art (see below) was once again created by Turner.

"Wavering Radiant" track listing:

01. Hall Of The Dead
02. Ghost Key
03. Hand Of The Host
04. Wavering Radiant
05. Stone To Wake A Serpent
06. 20 Minutes / 40 Years
07. Threshold of Transformation

MERCENARY: \'The Endless Fall\' Video Available

"The Endless Fall", the new video from Danish metallers MERCENARY, can be viewed below. The song comes off the band's latest album, "Architect of Lies", which was released last year through Century Media Records. Featuring artwork by Niklas Sundin (ARCH ENEMY, DARK TRANQUILLITY), "Architect of Lies" was made available as a regular CD and a special limited-edition version featuring the bonus track "Death Connection" and a bonus DVD containing live footage filmed at Bang Your Head!!! festival 2007 and Summer Nights festival 2007, a detailed studio report and the promo video for "My World Is Ending".

Commented the band: "When we entered 2009, we had the feeling that 2008 would be a hard year to top — we'd just returned from a really great tour with ARCH ENEMY in December (who needless to say rocked our proverbial socks off every night — one of the greatest live acts we've ever seen), we'd done the Danish Headbanger's Ball tour with RAUNCHY, we'd played our biggest show ever on Wacken, and last but not least, we had the honour of serving time on stage as support for the almighty MEGADETH on a handful of shows. Truly a great experience, and a lesson well learned for us — no matter how big you get or how many million albums you sell, there's always time to show respect for bands a zillion times smaller than yours. No matter what anybody says or writes, we'll always remember Dave Mustaine as a truly humble and helluva funny guy, who went out of his way to make us feel welcome and who made sure we were treated well by his crew on these few dates. We even got to share the stage with MEGADETH, singing badly out-of-tune backing vocals for 'Peace Sells' on one of the shows, which was to say the least, surreal.

"Well, so, here we are in 2009 and what a way to start the year! We got nominated for a Danish Music Award (a Grammy) for 'Architect Of Lies' in the category 'Hard Rock Album of the Year'. Needless to say, we're immensely proud of this in a country that's dead set on keeping metal out of the media and shove it as far into the underground as possible. So, this is at least a chance to roar our ugly mugs at the establishment!

"Furthermore, we have a brand new music video for the track 'The Endless Fall' ready for you all, which features live shots from Wacken 2008 combined with some very cool shots and killer special effects from Chilean director Carlos Toro. It's a little gift directly from the band to the fans out there and we really hope you will enjoy the shit out of it!"

DARK FUNERAL: New Album To Be Produced By PETER TÄGTGREN

Guitarist Lord Ahriman of the Swedish black metallers DARK FUNERAL has issued the following update:

"I'm sorry for the long silence since the last update. Due to various reasons, we were forced to halt the pre-production we begun working on in the studio some months ago.

"Chaq Mol [guitar] and I have, however, continued to write and trying out new material, but instead of doing it in the studio with a producer, we have been demoing new stuff in my very own home studio (damn, I need a name for it… any suggestions?).

"Anyway, things have been going rather slow but definitely steady forward.

"At this point, I have totally lost track on how many new songs we have completed or even have under progress, but that's not really of any importance right now, I think. We'll just continue to write until it's time to enter the studio. And once we are there, we'll just begin the session by going through everything from scratch, do the final adjustments etc before it's time to nail the songs for good.

"When talking about the studio, there's been some change of producer as well as where we are going to record the new album. We have decided to once again work with Peter Tägtgren [HYPOCRISY, PAIN] at his Abyss Studio. I must say that I didn't really see this coming, but honestly, I am really looking forward to work with Peter again, and so are the other guys. It's has been some 8 years or so since we last worked together with Peter and recorded our 'Diabolis Interium' album. So it's sure about time to once again summon the demons that dwells deep within the Pärlby forest. I'm not sure on the exact date we'll head up there, but sometime late May I believe. As soon as I know more I'll let you know.

"Chaq Mol and I have re-signed our endorsement deal with BC Rich guitars. Both of us have decided to continue to play their NT Warlock, which totally rules if you ask me. And considering the fact that I have been playing BC Rich Warlock (various models) for nearly 20 years now, it should say quite a lot about my feel for their killer guitars. B-Force has signed an endorsement deal with EMG pickups. He will, however, make his own statement on his new gear etc so I'll leave that part to him.

"We have also decided to do a few selected shows before the new album comes out. Not all of them are 100% confirmed as I write this, but the once that is confirmed are [listed below]."

Apr. 18 - Kings Of Black Metal - Festival Gießen, Hessenhalle (DE)
Aug. 07 - Brutal Assault festival - Jaromer, Army Fortress (Czech Republic)
Aug. 08 - Party.San Open Air - Bad Berka (DE)

DARK FUNERAL recently obtained the rights to its back catalogue (including the publishing rights) — "The Secrets Of The Black Arts" (1996), "Vobiscum Satanas" (1998), "Teach Children To Worship Satan" (2000) and "Diabolis Interium" (2001) — following a lengthy legal battle with te band's previous record label, MNW/No Fashion Records.

DARK FUNERAL released "Attera Orbis Terrarum - Part II", the second DVD recorded during the band's world tour in support of the "Attera Totus Sanctus" album, on October 20, 2008. A trailer for the set can be viewed below.
