ARKAIK: New Song Posted Online
 Riverside, California-based technical/progressive death metallers ARKAIK have posted a new song, "The Divine Manifestation", on their MySpace page. The track comes off the band's forthcoming debut album, "Reflections Within Dissonance", which is scheduled for release on January 26 via Unique Leader Records. The CD was mixed by Samur Khouja at Seahorse Sound Studios and was mastered by Stefano Morabito of 16 Cellar Studios (HOUR OF PENANCE, FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE). According to the band, "The album consists of 10 tracks that blend brutality, technical fret work, memorable grooves, powerful vocals and much more."

JON OLIVA To Guest On AVANTASIA Album
 Jon Oliva (JON OLIVA'S PAIN, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA, SAVATAGE) has joined the list of guest musicians who will appear on the forthcoming release from EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project.
Commented Sammet: "Jon will appear on a theatrical song called 'Death Is Just A Feeling'.
"We just had a press listening last weekend in Mousse T's prestigious Peppermint Park studios in Hannover where we had recorded the duet with Klaus Meine a few months ago, for example.
"Many of the numerous journalists that had come from all over Europe said that they have the feeling this is going to be the most epic and simply the best AVANTASIA stuff with the widest variety so far, yet every song fits perfectly to the enchanting conceptual character.
"I am proud; I knew we were gonna do something momentous, but it feels great that it’s been confirmed once more.

UNHEILIG - neues Video \'Geboren um zu Leben\' online!
 Das lange Warten hat ein Ende! Endlich kommt das lang ersehnte neue Studio-Album "Grosse Freiheit", welches, wie seine Vorgänger, ein weiteres Konzeptalbum ist. Die vielfach autobiografisch geprägten Themen seiner Songs transportiert Der Graf, charismatischer Sänger und Mastermind von UNHEILIG, diesmal in die Welt der Seefahrt.
Das neue Album ist klarer denn je. Aufgenommen wurde "Grosse Freiheit" über das Jahr 2009 in den Tinseltown Studios in Köln mit Kiko Masbaum und Henning Verlage als Produzenten. Die Gitarrenparts sind deutlich kräftiger und präsenter, die Stimme des Grafen noch durchdringender und ausdrucksstärker.
Eine absolut runde Produktion. Nie zuvor haben UNHEILIG eine vergleichbare musikalische Bandbreite gezeigt. UNHEILIG bleiben ihrer musikalischen Linie treu und schicken den Zuhörer wieder einmal auf eine Achterbahnfahrt der Emotionen. Das neue Album "Grosse Freiheit" kommt am 19. Februar 2010 in den Handel.

MUSTAINE: I Have Been Praying Hard That I Would Be Friends With SLAYER Again And METALLICA Too
 MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message in the "Forums" section of the band's official web site:
"I went to go get a coronary calcium CT scan, or, in other words, a heart scan, and I have good news! They found one!!
"All kidding aside, I had my heart scan done and my score was a mind-blowing zero. This means that I have 0% plaque in my heart and my mom died from congestive heart failure, and that stuff is hereditary, I hear, so I was worried.
"I am so stoked about the result and I owe it to my family, bandmates, and my advisors and handlers for inspiring me to get better, to be better, and to stay better. I can't tell you how much my team, even the label, have really supported me and helped me understand what we can and cannot do, instead of what 'I' can't do.
"Believe it or not, even the media and the press, both positive or negative, have been instrumental in helping me become a better person.
"There have been a lot of life's lessons I haven't been able to learn until recently, but I can tell you I have NEVER felt this good in my 48 years of life on this planet.
"Hell, some stuff can be changed and some can't. I just need to be smart enough to know which is which.
"My manager Mark [Adelman] has mentored me in a business that is constantly changing (he was very instrumental in helping make the 'Big Four' [tour, featuring METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX] happen — for that, my hat and prolly several thousand other's hats are off to you). Funny thing is that I have been praying hard that I would be friends with the guys in SLAYER again, and METALLICA, too.

FEJD To Enter Studio In March
 FEJD, the Swedish folk rock/metal band featuring members of NOSTRADAMEUS and PATHOS, has issued the following update:
"We've been talking back and forth about the start of the recordings of our second full-length album, and we finally agreed on March 22 as a start date for the recordings. That means that from March 22 we will be [at RoastingHouse Studios] in in Malmö, Sweden to record our coming album.
"We've always been in a situation where we could write music and lyrics in a pace that seamed to fit us as a band, but now with a label behind us we have to work somewhat faster than what we've done in the past. That is something that is both encouraging and new for us but something that we feel very satisfied with, and that stimulates us to work hard to do our best.
"Our new material is very live-oriented, which means that it's easy to 'rock' to and we hope that we will be able to play one or two songs for you live this coming summer.
"Our aim is to get this album our for you to listen to as soon as possible, but that still means that it will take a couple of months after the recordings are finished, say somewhere like August/September 2010, to be completely honest. We are doing our best together with Napalm [Records] to release it as soon as we can."

TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED Recording New Album
 British death/grind band TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED has entered the studio to begin recording its third album for a tentative late spring/early summer release. According to the group, "So far, drums and guitars have been completely finished and are sounding the tits!" The CD will be mixed and mastered by Danish producer Jacob Hansen, who has previously worked with RAUNCHY, HEAVEN SHALL BURN, NEAERA, MAROON, VOLBEAT, ABORTED, THE ARCANE ORDER and HATESPHERE, among others.
TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED last year parted ways with drummer Max Blunos and replaced him with Dan Wilding (ABORTED).
"The Great Depression", the second album from TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED, was released on April 14, 2009 via Metal Blade Records. The CD was self-produced by TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED at Red House Farm and Cherry Wood studios, was mixed by Karl Groom at Thin Ice Studios, and was mastered by Dave at The Digital Audio Company.
Formed in late 2006 in Bath England by Rob Purnell and Martyn Evans, TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED has been creating some of the most extreme music in death metal, forging the new with the old school. SECRETS OF THE MOON Announces New Guitarist
 German progressive black metallers SECRETS OF THE MOON have recruited their live guitarist Ar as a permanent member of the band.
Commented mainman sG: "After nearly 60 shows with this guy, we can assure that he's the right person for this job.

DESTINY: New Album Title Announced
 Long-running Swedish metallers DESTINY have set "Global Warming" as the title of their much-delayed new album. According to the band, the music for the nine-song CD "is almost complete. . . As there are a lot of guitar harmonies on the new album DESTINY is considering to once again add a second guitarist to the lineup, to be able to reproduce the songs correctly live. Unfortunately, current guitarist Michael Åberg broke his leg on New Year's Eve, which in turn postponed his final recordings. The only guitar parts left to record is one guitar solo and some acoustic twelve-string guitars. There might be some keyboards added as well. However, the greatest task is still to find the right new singer. Auditions will commence as soon as the final recordings are completed."
Bassist Stefan Björnshög previously stated about DESTINY's singer search, "We will be very careful to choose a vocalist with a strong voice that suits the new music well. It will also be of great importance that he will have a good personality that works well with the rest of the band." | 0 | |

ASPHYX Parts Ways With Bassist, Announces Replacement
 Reformed Dutch death metal outfit ASPHYX has parted ways with bassist Wannes Gubbels due to "musical differences." The group states, "Since ASPHYX is a non-compromising band, we had no other choice than to find a suitable replacement. A replacement in the very person of Alwin Zuur [PULVERIZER, ESCUTCHEON], who, we think, was the missing link. We, however, wish Wannes all the best for the future, musically and personally, and thank him for the past three years.
"Besides the fact that Alwin is a very nice guy, he's also a 100% true old-school death metalhead who, just like us, only wants one thing and one thing only and that's playing death the brutal way without compromises.
"Alwin and ASPHYX already rehearsed and it was a great experience with him on board. The match was there. Alwin thinks and plays 100% ASPHYX and being already a long time fan he stated himself that 'a dream came true.'"

IMMOLATION: New Song Available For Streaming
 A brand new IMMOLATION track, "The Purge", is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The song comes off the veteran New York death metallers' eighth album, "Majesty And Decay", which is scheduled for release on March 9 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded Millbrook Sound Studios in New York with longtime producer Paul Orofino. Mixing duties were handled by Zack Ohren, who has previously worked with DECREPIT BIRTH, SUFFOCATION and ALL SHALL PERISH, among others.
Commented bassist/vocalist Ross Dolan: "It was a unanimous decision to choose 'The Purge' as the first song off 'Majesty And Decay' to debut to the world. It is the first song on the record and we think it really sets the tone for the rest of the album.
"'The Purge' is an extremely aggressive and angry song that really has so many elements to it, and it is the perfect opening track as well because it takes the listener through some of the many moods and feelings contained within the album. It is a very extreme song in many ways and showcases all of the classic IMMOLATION elements. Lyrically, the song takes the concept we started developing on 'World Agony' and expands upon it, taking it to the next level in a very extreme way.
"We really liked the idea behind 'World Agony' and wanted to expand upon it, so when we began the process of writing lyrics for the new record while in the studio, I had the title and a loose concept for 'The Purge' and we expanded upon it.
"'The Purge' is a condemning song that takes an ugly look at mankind and forces us to open our eyes and accept responsibility for our actions. It is a very dark song with lots of emotion that I think will grab the listener right from the opening notes."
IMMOLATION's new album contains "10 songs [plus two intros] of the strongest material we have ever written," the band said in a statement. "The new material is more violent and aggressive, with fast sections that take us to a new level of speed and intensity, while complementing the dark and sullen heavier moments. There are plenty of miserable and militant movements to please the diehard and new IMMOLATION fans alike."

TARJA TURUNEN Preparing To Enter Studio
 Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen will enter the studio in early February to begin recording her new solo album, "What Lies Beneath". She writes on her web site, "In these last couple of weeks I have been daily preparing the production, schedules, arrangements for the songs and for the album itself.
"It feels great to be able to start the recordings very soon, since I have been waiting for the moment already for a long time. I am truly excited to witness how all will unfold!
"The process for my second album started back in June 2008. Among the first songs that my friends and I composed at that time, a character called Naiad was born. The fantasy story of Naiad gave me the idea for the album title and for the whole album concept: 'What Lies Beneath'.
"The last touches for the music, last lines of lyrics and arrangements for the songs need to be done now before getting into the studio.
"I have chosen the musicians for each song, the recording and mixing engineers and some the studios where the album will come alive.
"We are also starting to organize the artwork and photos for the album.
"It has been wonderful to be able to brainstorm again and decide the direction the album is going to take. I hope that you will be surprised again by my work; because that's the way I like it.
"The recordings of the drums will begin on February 4th. I will be in touch with you daily from the studio, so you will have a chance to read, see and maybe also hear what is happening there."
Turunen recently recorded three songs for a Finnish Christmas album, produced by Olli Ahvenlahti. According to Turunen, this was "a charity project for missionary workers in Finland."
Tarja's last album, "My Winter Storm", was re-released in January 2009. This double CD "extended special edition" was packed with 32 tracks, including the CD "My Winter Storm" with the addition of the song "The Seer" in its original version. The bonus disc presented several new tracks, remixes and live recordings. Among them, the new song "Enough" and "The Seer", this time featuring a duet with German rock star Doro Pesch.

KROKUS: New Song Available For Streaming
 Swiss hard rock veterans KROKUS will release their new album, "Hoodoo", on February 26 via the band's new deal with the Swiss branch of Sony Music. The CD was recorded by Dennis Ward (who previously worked on KROKUS' "Hellraiser" album) at House of Music Studios in Winterbach, Germany, with additional recordings at Pink Bild and Ton (engineered by ex-KROKUS member Jürg Naegeli) in Solothurn, Switzerland and Henson Studios, Los Angeles. Photography, artwork and graphic design was handled by Martin Häusler.

FULLFORCE Announces New Bassist
 FULLFORCE (now apparently written as one word), the new Swedish melodic metal project featuring Mike Andersson (CLOUDSCAPE, SILENT MEMORIAL, PLANET ALLIANCE) on vocals, Stefan Elmgren (HAMMERFALL) on guitar, Anders Johansson (HAMMERFALL, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) on drums, and Carl-Johan Grimmark (NARNIA) on guitar, has announced the addition of

NOMINON To Release \'Monumentomb\' In March
 Swedish death metallers NOMINON will release their fourth album, "Monumentomb", on March 23 via Deathgasm Records. The CD was recorded at Necromorbus Studio (WATAIN, NOMINON, AVERSE SEFIRA, FUNERAL MIST, NEX, ONDSKAPT, MORK GRYNING, ADORIOR) in Alvik, Sweden and was mixed with producer Tore Stjerna. The group states, "We managed to record eleven songs and it all sounds really powerful and heavy, yet fast and with a certain raw edge, and at last it's definitely the most varied material so far from NOMINON."

GRAVE DIGGER Frontman Completes Work On THE FYREDOGS Debut
 THE FYREDOGS, the German rock and roll band fronted by GRAVE DIGGER vocalist Chris Boltendahl, has completed work on its debut album at the Comude Studios in Cologne, Germany. Entitled "Hellfyre Rock 'n' Roll", the CD will released on March 12 via Golden Core / Zyx Music.
According to a press release, THE FYREDOGS' music can best be described as "an explosive mixture between SOCIAL DISTORTION, RAMONES and MOTÖRHEAD."

SOREPTION To Release Debut Album In March
 Swedish technical death metallers SOREPTION will release their debut album, "Deterioration Of Minds", on March 3 via Ninetone Records. The CD was recorded, mixed and produced by Tommy Rehn (ANGTORIA) at Sidelake, Ninetone and Blue Oyster Studios.
