OV HELL: Debut Album Title, Track Listing Revealed

OV HELL, the new black metal project featuring DIMMU BORGIR vocalist Shagrath and ex-GORGOROTH bassist King, has completed work on its debut album, "The Underworld Regime", for a February 2010 release via Indie Recordings. The CD was recorded at Earshot Studio and features Shagrath on vocals, King on bass, Frost (SATYRICON) on drums, Ice Dale (ENSLAVED) on guitar and Teloch (NIDINGR, GOD SEED) on guitar. The album was produced by Herbrand Larsen and mastered at the Livingroom studios by Espen Berg and Shagrath in November 2009. King composed all of the music for "The Underworld Regime", while Shagrath wrote all lyrics, with contributions from Silenoz and Sarah Owens.

"The Underworld Regime" track listing:

01. Devil's Harlot
02. Post Modern Sadist
03. Invoker
04. Perpetual Night
05. Ghosting
06. Acts of Sin
07. Krigsatte Faner
08. Hill Norge

Commented Shagrath: "The majestic OV HELL has become a band that reflects our roots — raw, ugly, arrogantly blasphemous — with uncompromising truth from two influential Norwegian musicians needing to express our primitive side, straight out OV HELL."

Added King: "It's been a little hell to actually see this music form into a band, but when I'm now listening to the final result, it has been worth the hard work we have put into this album!"

Two rough-mix sample tracks from "The Underworld Regime" can be heard on the band's MySpace page.

OPETH Planning String Of Shows To Celebrate 20-Year Anniversary

Guitarist/vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt of Swedish progressive metallers OPETH has issued the following update:

"Just got back from the little trek-trippie-trip to Japan and Australia. Had a WONDERFUL time! Japan was awesome!

"We only played two shows, Tokyo and Osaka and both were real nice. We were so jetlagged it was insane; I can't remember ever being that tired.

"Burrn! magazine wanted to have a brief photo session with us right before we stepped onstage in Tokyo. I saw one of those photos and they were quite possibly the worst we've ever looked. Ever! Five faces that just looked like, 'Fuck off, lemme sleep you fucking BITCH!' Insanely funny. To the point where our soundman wanted it signed. I think he's gonna frame it and put it up on his toilet wall. I was also given a prize presented to me by Burrn! magazine as the readers had voted me as the 'Best songwriter of 2008'. Normally I don't care for these type of things, but I couldn't help being happy about that. I actually give a fuck when people like my songs, yes I do.

"Again...a massive 'LOVE YA!' from me to you!

"Japan is such a wonderful, 'strange' place to be.

"I defied my jetlag immediately after landing and went straight out record-shopping with my buddy Koji from Roadrunner Japan. Recofan and Disc Union in Shibuya. Spent...not too much, actually. Turns out the dude who works at Recofan was a fan of the band. So he gave me some records for free even. Got the first, super-rare QUIET RIOT LP (with Randy Rhoads) that was only released in Japan from him.

"Thanks, dude!

"Japanese food is my favourite now, I think.

"We went out with the Roadrunner office as well as the promoters, Creative Man, for some nice Japanese cousine and some sake...of course. Lovely! Hope to go back soon! I've become a tuna sashimi junkie!

"Is it unethical to eat ALL tuna or is the purple fen one that's 'out of bounds?' I wanna be good to my planet....! Yet it tastes so fucking good!!!

"Australia is my favourite country in the world next to Sweden. I could live there!

"We only had three shows this time around, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. All of which went great, especially Sydney was magical! We tried the famous 'seabug' in Brisbane. Tasted a bit like alligator. I'd say. Was amazing!

"After the Sydney show, we were rushed out to go back to the hotel and disappointed a number of fans who wanted pics and autographs. Always feel like shit when that happens. Some of the fans were showing us their 'thumbs down' which hurt, but fuck, I hope we can make it up to you guys next time. There was simply too many people there to take care of everyone and we had other obligations too. Yet I understand you're disappointed....what can I say...sorry?

"I can only be amazed when I think about OPETH and Oz. It's been a love story since the very first time we went there. We've never had to 'work' the country. We've been loved since day one there, and the feeling is mutual, I hope you know!?

"We'll never stop come back and blast your faces off with our metal MIGHT! Haha!

"A little MANOWAR hairball there....

"In Melbourne, Roadrunner had arranged for me to go record shopping and be interviewed doing it....on their expense! They GAVE me money to BUY records for my OWN collection! It happened before once actually and I can't complain. Went to Rare Records in St. Gilda and shopped for around 250 Oz dollars. Found some gems and I'm actually listening to the stuff right now as I'm typing away here....

"I'm in and out of panic attacks here. I think it's because the tour is almost over. We only have two more shows in Greece (Athens and Thessaloniki) and that's it for this year! It's scary, to be honest!

"We're off 'till late March when we'll start a string of shows celebrating 20 years. Will give you the dates on those [as soon as possible], but they will be fucking limited and fucking special, so don't fucking slack when we release them tix. Six shows across the world and that will be IT!"

CARPATHIAN FOREST Bassist\'s Label Joins Forces With Danish Horror Filmmaker

Misantrof, the label that was founded and headed by CARPATHIAN FOREST bass player Daniel Vrangsinn, and which makes all its releases available for free download, has branched out into films by joining forces with Danish horror filmmaker Kim Sønderholm and Cetus Productions. Misantrof will release three of Sønderholm's films over the coming months, starting on November 22, with "The Horror Vault 1", which comprises "nine tales of human cruelty, nine tales of human depravity, nine tales of true horror." The titles of the nine tales are: "When John Met Julia", "Delusion", "Alone", "Mental Distortion", "Dead To The World", "Disconnected", "Echoes", "The Demon", "Retina", and the film is available to download in its entirety at the.horror.vault.misantrof.net.

The cooperation between Misantrof and the filmmaker began when some of Vrangsinn's music was used in "The Horror Vault", and again in Sønderholm's 2009 release "Rovdrift" (English title: "Bleed With Me"), which debuted at the 13th international Weekend of Fear film festival in Germany. A spokesperson for Misantrof commented: "It's not such a big leap for Misantrof to go into making films available. It was always the intention that Misantrof would eventually be a venue for all forms of artistic expression and we are always interested in seeing how far we will be able to take things. This cooperation with Kim and Cetus Productions has given us the opportunity to expand into the area of film, and we are delighted that a filmmaker of his skill and experience chose to work with us."

ALICE COOPER To Create New Character For Upcoming Album

Dr Rock from Thequietus.com spoke with shock rock legend ALICE COOPER recently about a number of topics. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

Thequietus.com: For a period of time you drank heavily. Would it be fair to assume that the character of Alice Cooper swallowed you up?

Cooper: "I was probably the most efficient alcoholic around - I never missed a show, I never slurred a word. When I was doing acting, I never missed my lines. And then I started realising why that was – when I went to the hospital the doctor would sit there and question me about my drinking and he would ask 'How much did you drink on stage?' and I’d go 'I don’t drink on stage.' And he said 'What?' I went 'When I’m working I never drink.' 'So when you’re up there for a few hours you never drink?' I said 'No.' 'With your acting do you drink when you’re on film?' I said 'No.' So he said 'Alice isn’t the alcoholic, you are. You’re blaming everything on Alice and Alice doesn’t even drink.' I had to sit there for a minute and go “You’re absolutely right." When I was actually working I never did drink. So it’s really funny that I pushed the blame on Alice Cooper when Alice wasn’t the problem at all. I was the problem."

Thequietus.com: Why did the original Alice Cooper band break up in the mid '70s? After all you were on a high, popularity-wise.

Cooper: "The reason why we broke up was because I wanted to keep doing theatrics and they wanted to take all that down and not really work on theatrics anymore. They just wanted to be a band. I said 'People are eating out of our hands just now, we won that war. The war that we couldn’t win we won and now you wanna go back?!' I said 'I want a ticket now to a place that nobody’s ever seen before.' I was already thinking of Welcome To My Nightmare and they were going 'Nah, we wanna go back in the other direction.' That was really the reason the band broke up. But we never broke up with any sort of negative feelings. There was never a time when Dennis, Neil and I were yelling at each other."

Thequietus.com: Please tell me about your new album that’s due to come out in 2010. What can we expect?

Cooper: "I’m not gonna be very specific with you but I’m gonna say this – I’m creating this new character that Alice will be playing. Also a villain. At the same time it’s going to be a character that’s going to allow Alice to stretch out musically a little bit more. He’s a bit of a phantom but what he does allows the music to do a lot of things. It’ll be pretty interesting.

FEAR FACTORY: \'Mechanize\' Track-By-Track Guide By BURTON C. BELL

FEAR FACTORY — the newly revamped band featuring original FF members Dino Cazares (guitar) and Burton C. Bell (vocals) alongside bassist Byron Stroud (who played on the last two FEAR FACTORY albums in addition to touring and recording with STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and ZIMMERS HOLE) and legendary drummer Gene Hoglan (DETHKLOK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DARK ANGEL, DEATH, TESTAMENT) — will release its new album, "Mechanize", in the U.S. on February 9, 2010 via Candlelight Records and February 5, 2010 in Europe via AFM Records. The CD, which was co-produced by the band with Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, PARADISE LOST), was recently mixed by Greg Reely (PARADISE LOST, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, SKINNY PUPPY).

"Mechanize" track listing:

01. Mechanize
02. Industrial Discipline
03. Fear Campaign
04. Powershifter
05. Christploitation
06. Oxidizer
07. Controlled Demolition
08. Designing The Enemy
09. Metallic Division
10. Final Exit

Regarding the new album's lyrical approach, Bell stated, "In the past, the lyrical concept was of a futuristic, 'sci-fi' nature. An attempt to protect the ideas and logic of those involved in FEAR FACTORY; because those who incite progressive thought are always chastised and persecuted. By placing the 'story' into a futuristic, fictional narrative, the words and ideas may not have seemed threatening. Not so for 'Mechanize'. These are the words of a reality that once seemed distant, that are now apparently, and evidently real. These are the words of the world in which we live; for what once seemed like a story of another time, has come to be our reality today. Welcome to the world of 'Mechanize'."

"Mechanize" track-by-track guide by Burton C. Bell:

01. Mechanize

Bell: "The title track describes our world as the soulless program that it is.
Every part serves a purpose. There is no such concept as individuality within the
machine. We have carved our place inside the machine. We have grown banal
within our apathy. We have become mechanized."

02. Industrial Discipline

Bell: "The term was taken from the book 'The Third Wave'. It explains the path in which the industrial complex, and it's construct, initiated the path of conformity. Everyone worked for the benefit of the machine, not for themselves. The discipline begins in mass education, determining time and placement, superiors and subordinates, rank and file. Humanity has been disciplined to do the work for the machine, therefore becoming the machine."

02. Fear Campaign

Bell: "It was not necessary to camouflage the insanity of the world of today within a science fiction setting. The world today has become the world that writers predicted long ago. The controlling authorities are constantly, and successfully, utilizing the fear tactic to control the masses, through misinformation and distraction. Fear is bondage. Fear is slavery. Fear is Hell. Fear is control."

04. Powershifter

Bell: "Change is an inevitable course in nature and humanity. This world has seen much change as of late, and it is true globally, nationally, and personally. This is a true story of a personal struggle against a controlling and ineffectual organization. There is always a choice, and the choice is never easy."

05. Christploitation

Bell: "Christianity has become a parody of itself. Through the ages, exploitation of myths, words, and the use of the fear tactic, have ruled the masses. We have seen so much death and destruction in the name of a man made god that it means nothing. What is faith, but the belief in an archaic superstition; an overwhelming fear to face reality of the world today. Invoking the name of Christ has become a common practice The original concept does not apply. This is control through conformity and a false sense of morality."

06. Oxidizer

Bell: "One molecule of oxygen can alter the course of the world. It can start the deterioration slowly through rust, or it can quickly incinerate everything in
it's path. Either way, change is going to happen. This is about the trial by fire."

07. Controlled Demolition

Bell: "So many questions, so many lies, so perfect a destruction. All one has to do is consider the theories. Why is it so difficult to believe that our elected officials are above destructive corruption? History has proved that absolute control through violence and deception is a common theme. Consider the alternative thought, and you may see there is truth behind the False Flag."

08. Designing The Enemy

Bell: "Everything that occurs is a direct consequence of our own actions, creations, and manifestations. The machine that creates will ultimately be our demise. It is coming, the future is here."

09. Metallic Division

Bell: "The rhythm of mechanical death..."

10. Final Exit

Bell: "Based on the organization of the same name. A group of individuals with enough compassion to assist those who are interested in 'self-deliverance' from their intolerable pain. Is it compassion that drives the ability to help one commit suicide? This is a statement about the world in which we live, when the only cure for cancer, AIDS, MS ( and any other debilitating disease ) is death. Where is compassion to to assist our fellow human being in their time of unbearable pain, to keep them alive without hope of survival? Where is the compassion to find a cure, or to eliminate the diseases entirely? There is no profit in the cure... only pain and suffering."

*** "Powershifter" *** lyrics:

Feared your control and excessive greed
Abuse of your power disgraced me
You want war
You got war
More than you bargained for
I damn you and leave defiantly
Cut you out and take it all with me
You want war
You got war
More than you bargained for
Always question authority, control my own destiny
Forcing change, breaking free
From the gears of the machine
Changing my world so I can live
Execution powershift
I will forge my place in this time
Contention is sharply refined
I will expose you and force your demise
To take control of what is truly mine

Regarding "Mechanize"'s musical direction, Bell told Sergio Alvite of Mexico's Search & Destroy, "It has the raw aggression of what 'Soul Of A New Machine' [1992] was but it has... I would say it has the maturity of 'Obsolete' [1998]. When I say 'maturity,' I mean that it has the songwriting skills that 'Soul Of A New Machine' did not have whereas 'Obsolete' did."

GODHATE Signs With METAL AGE PRODUCTIONS

Swedish death metallers GODHATE have inked a three-album deal with Metal Age Productions. The band's new CD, "Equal In The Eyes Of Death", will be released before the end of the year.

Commented the band: "From the very beginning we had a very good feeling about Metal Age Productions. The way they acted and their attitude towards us was more than we expected. They were simply the underground label we were looking for. A label with great ambitions and down-to-earth attitude. They were serious and ready to tell us about their visions whenever we wanted to.

"We have had this record deal in the works for quite long and we are both relieved to have this contract sealed as much as eager to begin the journey towards higher levels."

GODHATE guitarist/vocalist Tony Freed previously stated about the band's new album, "It sounds very harsh and raw but still with a very good production and a production which is far better than we have ever had. It contains some of the best songs we have ever written and this is, by far, the best CD we have ever recorded. This is the masterpiece!"

The new GODHATE album was engineered by Dino Medanhodzic (CARNAL FORGE guitarist) at Elastic studio.

IRON MASK Release \'Forever In The Dark\' Video; New Album Due In January

Four years on from the Hordes Of The Brave album, IRON MASK are back on January 15th, 2010 with their most potent release yet in Shadow Of The Red Baron (Lion Music).

Home to a fine collection of melodic neo-classical tracks, this album is full of first class material from start to finish. Chief songwriter and guitar virtuoso Dushan Petrossi’s particular focus this time was to create superb songs first and foremost where the excellent musicianship only lift the music to an even higher level. This is perfectly exemplified by the first single and video of 'Forever In The Dark'.

'Forever In The Dark' is a dark yet commercial rock track with neo-classical and melodic power metal influences with first class performances from all involved. The video produced by Thomas Neumann is now available for viewing below.

More information on the new album coming soon.
