Биография
Well, I thought it was about time to “freshen up” my biography section a little so here goes… Damnation Army was spawned in Sweden in late 2002/early 2003 (I can’t remember) by Thomas Nyholm (also known as NightSpawn on some occasions). From the beginning I didn’t really know exactly how I wanted my music to sound (still really don’t, but that makes it more interesting) but I knew that I wanted it to be dark and melancholic. The first demo “Towards Damnation” (God is Myth, ’03) was 4 tracks of black/thrash. Here I more or less wanted to just get some songs out to the underground hordes and spread the message that a new Swedish band was in the creation. It was limited to 150 copies and was received pretty well by the underground. Later in 2003 I wanted to do a full length demo and decided to go more extreme and explore that field. That demo was called “Misanthropic Satanarchy” (God is Myth, ’03), also limited to 150 copies. This release was received better and made Damnation Army a band to keep your eyes on. In 2004 it was time for a debut album. Here I wanted to still keep it extreme but to make it a bit more progressive (especially guitarwise) and experiment more with different harmonies and layers, more melodic but still relentless in sound. This album was to be called “The Art of the Occult” (God is Myth, ’04). This album was very well received by the underground. This album was limited to 1000 copies/CD and 300 copies /tape (Metallatria). One thing I always suffered from was the fact that I used programmed drums (meaning fake drums). But at the time I didn’t have the budget to enter a “real” studio, so I had to keep the recordings really primitive (though it had its charms of course). But it was never my intention to keep it raw for the sake of being raw. It was because of the circumstances, so it turned out that way. However in 2005 I at last booked studio time at Necromorbus studios, Stockholm, and was ready to take a step up, and also finally play the drums myself and make my music sound the way I wanted too most importantly. 7 Songs were recorded and mixed between September the first to September the tenth. With these songs and a real studio recording under my belt I was able to sign to a bigger more known label (soon to be announced). The album will be called “Tyrant” and set to release sometime in Mars, preliminary. This album will show more depth to my music, it is more atmospheric and dark than before with an in general slower more powerful pace. Damnation Army is driven by it’s dark and melancholic approach rather than a specific genre. That would feel limiting. When writing I just surrender to my inner demons and emotions and let the songs play themselves. That’s how I always have done and always will do and that what makes it more interesting, keeping it’s core but letting myself just play and experimenting with what guides me. Let it be primitive, progressive, fast or slow, harsh or beautiful, but its dark core will always be there. This is what Damnation Army is all about, even though explained extremely short and not very detailed. I could go on forever, but that will have to wait to another time.Скрыть/показать
