PUNGENT STENCH Resurrected As THE CHURCH OF PUNGENT STENCHAfter a six-year break, PUNGENT STENCH is back in business again.
Original composer, vocalist and guitarist El Cochino (Martin Schirenc) has once again beaten the odds by reanimating the filthy kings of odor, and is joined by his henchmen Danny Vacuum (GENOCIDE SS, THE ACCIDENTS) on bass and vocals and Mike G. Mayhem (HOLLENTHON) on drums.
Due to possible legal complications regarding the use of the name PUNGENT STENCH, the reborn triumvirate from Vienna, Austria will perform all future shows under the banner THE CHURCH OF PUNGENT STENCH.
Fans will finally get what they have been asking for for a number of years: An old-school setlist, including some rare and even never-before-played material, such as tracks from the 1989 split LP with DISHARMONIC ORCHESTRA, as well as classic smash hits from PUNGENT STENCH's first three albums.
The band is highly motivated and will play its first official show on Friday, December 13 at the Eindhoven Metal Meeting in The Netherlands. That day, THE CHURCH OF PUNGENT STENCH will perform alongside other highly respected artists such as NAPALM DEATH, BRUTAL TRUTH, VOMITOR, WATAIN, BELPHEGOR, TIAMAT and CARPATHIAN FOREST. 6

Formed in 2009, the band released their debut album Into the Silence in 2011, and Dupont contributed a guest solo on the song 'Once Again':
Silent Circus has issued the following statement:
"We're absolutely stoked to announce Cédric "Cede" Dupont as a new member of Silent Circus. We're looking forward to step into new territories with him and get Silent Circus up to the next level."
Dupont comments: "I'm really looking forward to this new adventure and chapter within the circus of the silent (in fact it is not that silent at all!). Me and the guys know each other for years, being good friends, and funny as it is I have always been following their happenings, even before SC had a complete line up or even a band name. Always being a fan of their music and being invited to play on 'Once Again' off of the debut album it now seems pretty funny to actually be IN this band not just next to it. I am looking forward to share the stages, the studios, the stadiums and the private jets with my buddies in crime! Gonna be legen-wait-for-it-dary! double-whoop! crash, boom, bang!"

Former VREID Guitarist's SLEGEST Reveal Live Lineup; Music Video In The WorksWith a new album about to be released, SLEGEST founder and frontman Ese has put together a live lineup to take what was initially a solo project onto the stage.
“As soon as the album was announced I was being asked if the band would ever play live”, says the former VREID guitarist, “and, as it happens, the time felt right to take the next step in Slegest's development. Once I had everyone on board, the thought of playing live again felt really good. It’s one of the greatest satisfactions there is when you play music, and honestly we can’t wait to get up there on stage”.
Aside from Ese on vocals and rhythm guitars, Slegest's live line up includes Sør (BÄÄÄV, VONBRÅTEN) on lead guitars, Hövard (BOMBEKLÜCHTER) on bass, and Fjøsne on drums.
Slegest are also working on a music video for 'Ho Som Haustar Aleine', the opening track on the band’s upcoming album Løyndom. The video is being produced by Håvard Nesbø and Ørjan Talle, and, according to Ese, the budget is one case of Hansa beer and on litre of Mackmyra Brukswhisky! The video will premiere in September.
Slegest recently inked a deal with Dark Essence Records for the release of the band’s debut full length album.
Set for release later this year, the eight-track album will be titled Løyndom (Secret) and was recorded partly in Ese’s own Systrond Studio and partly at the Conclave and Earshot Studio with producer Bjørnar E. Nilsen. The album is mastered by ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen.
Løyndom tracklisting:
'Ho Som Haustar Aleine'
'Rooted In Knowledge'
'I Slike Stunder'
'Løgna Sin Fiende'
'The Path Of No Return'
'Faceless Queen'
'Dirt Life Death'
'Past Burden Strength'
Slegest was born in 2010, following Ese’s departure from Vreid, where he played guitar on four of the iconic band’s albums. Drawing his inspiration from BLACK SABBATH, Ese’s use of harsh vocals to create a special blend of classic heavy rock and old-school black metal was used to great effect on the band’s first release, the self-titled Slegest EP which appeared in 2012. One year later Ese has developed Slegest’s sound further, honing it to achieve a result that is both dark and sinister, whilst at the same time losing none of the dirtiness that can be heard in the unmistakable catchy groove that weaves its way through the music.
Whilst Slegest started life as solo project, with Ese handling vocals and playing all the instruments on Løyndom, apart from a guest solo by former Vreid band-mate Sture, it became apparent very quickly to everyone who heard the album that the potential for taking Slegest further and turning it into a live band was unmistakable and to ignore it would be insanity. As a result a live lineup has been put together and will be seen at festivals in the near future.

Sweden's HORISONT To Release Time Warriors In North America On October 1st; Track StreamingSwedish rock act HORISONT are slated to release their third album this fall. Time Warriors will be released on September 30th in Europe via Rise Above Records and on October 1st in North America on Metal Blade Records.
Since forming in 2006, this Swedish quintet have steadily established themselves as one of Europe's premier underground rock bands. Their first two albums – 2009's Tva Sidor Av Horisonten and 2012's widely acclaimed Second Assault – made it plain that the band have tapped directly into the heart of heaviness and guitar-wielding derring-do. Now, with their latest masterpiece, the vividly realised Time Warriors, Horisont are raising their game, refining and re-defining themselves and leaving the competition spluttering in the dust.
As the album title implies, Horisont – completed by guitarists Charlie Van Loo and Kristofer Möller, bassist Magnus Delborg and drummer Pontus Jordan - are gleefully obliterating the divide between the wonders of the distant past and the unmistakable allure of the here and now. While some of their supposed peers focus too acutely on replicating the sounds of a bygone era, this band consistently display a magic touch, rendering every last note, riff and melody in majestic technicolour and transcending all notions of nostalgia or retro cool in the process.
"Put the 5 soldiers of Horisont in a time machine 50 years ahead of time and we would still rock the silver socks of any future man, woman or robot," laughs Axel. "We think of a time warrior as someone who digs really good rock'n'roll and fights all the bad music that's on the air nowadays by coming to a bad ass show, rocking out and buying real music."
Armed with their best album to date and a collective desire to spread the gospel of real rock'n'roll around the world, Horisont will now be devoting themselves to hitting the road and taking these exceptional new songs to the people. While the modern rock world continues to be plagued by transient trends and shameless bandwagon-chasers, Sweden's masters of cosmic clangour are the ten-legged antidote, flying the flag for balls-out musical truth. This fantastic voyage has only just begun…
"After the album release we'll probably start by touring the north," Axel concludes. "And then I think it's time for the rest of Europe's time warriors to get their fair share of the Horisont cake. We'll keep on doing our thing and hopefully the fans will stick around to see many more Horisont albums in their record collections!"

Spain's OUIJA To Release Ave Voluptatis Carnis Album; 'I'm Not Your Rescuer' Track StreamingOUIJA, one of Spain's most legendary black metal acts, who released the classic album Riding Into The Funeral Paths in '97 via Repulse Records and reunited in '09 releasing the comeback EP Adversary in late 2010, have finished recordings for their long awaited second album, entitled Ave Voluptatis Carnis.
The band, consisting of original vocalist Midgard (also in SPELLCRAFT) and original guitarist Map, together with Spellcraft's members Fulgur (drums) and Murcilag (guitar) who also recorded the aforementioned EP, have replaced thier previous bass player with new bassist, Hastur.
Ave Voluptatis Carnis was recorded at Nomad Studios and later mastered at Sweden's Necromorbus Studio. Cover artwork was done by Spanish artist Igor Mugerza, who also did the cover art for the latest Spellcraft album.
Ouija's new album continues the band's traditional style of first class intense and aggressive black metal full of killer riffs and melodies with varied and dynamic structures, making of this album an enjoyable experience and a fresh breath on this style full of so many average and futile bands that just only care about their fake image and boring simplistic songs.
Ave Voluptatis Carnis is scheduled for a November release, and you can listen to an exclusive advance track, 'I'm Not Your Rescuer' below:

Ex-NIGHTWISH Singer ANETTE OLZON Praises TARJA TURUNEN's New Solo AlbumFormer NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon has praised the new solo effort from her NIGHTWISH predecessor, Tarja Turunen, calling it "[Tarja's] best album so far."
In an August 24 posting on her official blog, Anette wrote: "I am sitting listening to a great album together with my morning coffee and the album is Tarja's new album, 'Colours In The Dark'. I can say that if you like Tarja, go and get this album on August 30th. It's really her best album so far, even if I like them all, but she has definitely found her own style and this album is really great! I especially like the beautiful choirs and her voice is just perfect in all the songs and the guitar sound is great!"
Turunen was fired from NIGHTWISH at the end of the band's 2005 tour by being presented with an open letter which was published on the NIGHTWISH web site at the same time. In the letter, the other members of NIGHTWISH wrote: "To you, unfortunately, business, money, and things that have nothing to do with emotions have become much more important."
When a female fan commented on Anette's blog posting by saying that she was proud of Olzon for writing about Tarja "so beautifully considering [the] circumstances [under which Anette] became NIGHTWISH's new vocalist," Anette repied, "I have never ever had anything against Tarja and have her albums at home. What the men in NIGHTWISH do and did has never been supported by me."
Olzon abruptly left NIGHTWISH last September in the middle of the band's North American tour. She has since been replaced on the road by former AFTER FOREVER and current REVAMP singer Floor Jansen. 50

WARRION Release Awakening The Hydra DetailsThe release date of the WARRION album Awakening The Hydra is September 27th via Pure Steel Records. The preorder phase will start on September 13th.
Band founder Ron Ravi Warrion has collected famous people of diverse cult acts to form a band. The vocalist is Mike Vescera, exceptionally gifted singer of OBSESSION (and Ex-LOUDNESS singer). There’s also guitarist Tim Thomas (ABATTOIR, Ex-AGENT STEEL, Ex- STEEL PROPHET), bassist Keith Knight (ASKA) and drummer Rob Brug (HALLOWEEN). Furthermore, George Call (Aska, Ex-OMEN) is guest-vocalist on two tracks.
A press release describes the album: “The sound of the debut album Awakening The Hydra is not far from the sound of the musicians main bands, but you can hear some European influences in the songwriting; melody lines and heaviness are well balanced. There are very catchy songs like the opener ‘Awakening The Hydra’, refined with a good chorus, the straight sounding ‘Savage’, the quietly starting ‘Adversary’, the brisk ‘Victim Of Religion’ and the dark sounding ‘Serpent’s Fire’: all are classic power metal with expressive, charismatic vocals and a sophisticated guitar work which never follows the trends. The production is modern but not at all soulless or undifferentiated.”
Awakening The Hydra tracklisting:
‘Creations Of The Mind’
‘Awakening The Hydra’
‘Carnage’
‘Adversary’
‘Invocation’
‘Victim Of Religion’
‘Serpent’s Fire’

FIREWIND Singer's DARKOLOGY To Release 'Fated To Burn'DARKOLOGY, the Texas-based band featuring guitarist Michael Harris (VITALIJ KUPRIJ), drummer Brian Harris (ex-FIREWIND), bassist Mike Neal and vocalist Kelly "Sundown" Carpenter (FIREWIND, BEYOND TWILIGHT, OUTWORLD), will release its sophomore album, "Fated To Burn", in late 2013 or early 2014 through Prime Eon Media. The CD was mixed and mastered by legendary producer Chris Tsangarides (JUDAS PRIEST, ANVIL, THIN LIZZY) at his studio in the U.K. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Eyes Of The Machine", "Quantum Genocide", "On Morrow's Break", "Nobot 2" and "Your Hollow Soul".
Says the band: "This is album is a tribute to the old-school and it's our hope that what we've done here will remind the listener why they got into metal in the first place."
The amazing Harris brothers have again put their indelible stamp on these songs. Michael, arguably one of the best guitarists in metal and beyond, brings the killer riffs, solos and big atmosphere as Brian, his younger brother, punishes the skins like there's no tomorrow.
Finally, the always dynamic and melodic Mike Neal has not only played some mean bass and done a lot of backing vocals but has also written most of the lyrics on this album, proving this to be a total group effort.
Rainer Kalwitz, the illustrator for such bands as SHADOW GALLERY and PRAYING MANTIS, has provided DARKOLOGY with an eye-catching and very fitting cover painting.
The "Fated To Burn" title track can be streamed in the YouTube clip below.
"Altered Reflections" was released in November 2009 via Rockaholics Records.
According to a press release, DARKOLOGY's music features "ultra-tight, technical playing that serves the songs just right and remains transparent. The rhythm section just grooves wildly and delivers some impressive battery. And towering above all else, Sundown just redefines the term 'metal singer.' With some 15 different vocal styles, ranging from whispers to delirious screams and wails, he's as theatrical as they come. Imagine a guy with Ripper Owens' or Rob Halford's ra(n)ge, Jon Oliva's wickedness and Midnight's madness! Then multiply!"

ARTILLERY To Release 'Legions' In NovemberDanish thrash metal veterans ARTILLERY will release their new album, "Legions", in Europe on November 22 via Metal Blade Records. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Chill My Bones", "God Feather", "Legions", "Wardrum Heartbeat", "Global Flatline" and "Anno Requiem". The digipack version of the album will include two bonus tracks: re-recorded versions of songs that originally appeared on ARTILLERY's 1985 debut, "Fear Of Tomorrow".
In a recent interview with StageReport.ro, ARTILLERY guitarist Michael Stützer stated about the upcoming CD: "I personally think it's the best production we ever had on a ARTILLERY album. It's very raw and heavy."
He continued: "Our new drummer, Josua [Madsen] and new vocalist, Michael [Bastholm Dahl], really deliver the goods on this album, Josua is an amazing drummer and real nice guy and Michael is the singer in ARTILLERY who is the closest ever to [original ARTLLERY vocalist] Flemming Ronsdorf beside putting a lot of new elements in the band because of his vocal range. He is also writing some great lyrics. So this band is a very complete unit."
Regarding what qualities they were looking for in a singer following last year's departure of Søren Adamsen, Michael said: "You will never hear ARTILLERY with a growler or a pop singer, but sung vocals with melody and rawness at the same time. Actually, we headhunted Michael from a cover band who played MERCYFUL FATE / KING DIAMOND covers, so we knew he could sing the old ARTILLERY songs very good."

Video: Ex-SEPULTURA Drummer IGOR CAVALERA Performs 'Arise' With SOULFLYFormer SEPULTURA drummer Igor Cavalera joined SOULFLY, the band led by his brother, and fellow ex-SEPULTURA member, Max Cavalera, on stage on August 25 at Carioca Club in São Paulo, Brazil to perform the classic SEPULTURA song "Arise". Fan-filmed video footage of Igor's appearance can be seen below.
In 1996, Max exited SEPULTURA after the rest of the band fired Max's wife Gloria as their manager.
Igor left SEPULTURA in June 2006 due to "artistic differences." His departure from the band came five months after he announced that he was taking a break from SEPULTURA's touring activities to spend time with his second wife and their new son (who was born in January 2006).
After Max exited SEPULTURA, there was a rift between him and Igor, one that was eventually repaired through the redemptive power of music. Some time had passed and Max and Igor were unable to resist the musical pull in their magnetic fields and their musical collaboration was renewed. The duo are back for round two with CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, which released its debut album, "Inflikted", in March 2008 and follow-up effort, Blunt Force Trauma", in March 2011.
Max and Igor played together for the first time in 10 years at the 10th annual D-Low Memorial Festival on August 17, 2006 at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, Arizona.
