Exploring the depths of the subterranean caverns in which they dwell, Craven Idol have reached beyond their blackened thrash roots by incorporating elements of doom, traditional heavy metal and classic death. Towards Eschaton, which features artwork by Paolo Girardi, represents the culmination of Craven Idol's dark visions to date. Thematically the album deals primarily with the rotten fabric of religion and the depraved notions birthed upon its gilded altars. Oakland, CA based extreme metallers ALL SHALL PERISH have posted a lyric video for their track, 'The Death Plague'. The song comes from the band's latest album, This Is Where It Ends, which was released in July 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records.
All Shall Perish scanned 8,422 copies of This Is Where It Ends in its first week of sales in the United States according to Nielson Soundscan. The record came in at #50 on the US Billboard Top 200 Chart, making it their highest first week sales ever and their highest charting release to date. In contrast, 2008’s Awaken The Dreamers sold just under 5,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at #126.

GORGUTS guitarist/vocalist Luc Lemay previously told Zero Tolerance magazine about "Colored Sands": "It's a whole concept album, so I've been reading books for a year a year and a half for the lyrics to know what I'm going to talk about.

"The lyrics process is very hard for me. First, I'm French, and then I need to educate myself on the topic I'm going to talk about. I'm not going to educate myself on the Chinese invasion of Tibet with a Wikipedia thing.

"I bought piles of books. I feel the same way I did at the conservatory when I was writing classical pieces. It takes months and months, the pieces you just can't get it out of your system. You need to become a sponge, you need to get soaked with the topic. So far so good I'm very very happy with what we've done. "In the first place I wanted to write the whole album about the rituals of mandalas made with sand. One day my girlfriend's little daughter colored in a coloring book a mandala for me and I wondered what a mandala was, I liked the word. I searched on the Internet and found out this is a Tibetan thing and then it clicked, this is gonna be it, but I didn't have any clue, I wasn't very educated on the Tibetan culture. This mandala thing gets so complex, you could study it for 25-30 years before you know exactly what you're talking about, so I said, 'Okay, I'll take it from a different angle.' It's not a National Geographic documentary either. It's very poetic and very epic. This is my vision. I have no pretension about telling 'truth'; it's how I feel about these people."

The band has also announced a string of headlining shows leading to and from this year's Hopscotch Festival. the U.S. trek, which begins on September 5 in Springfield, Virginia, will travel through Hopscotch before ending on September 8 in Worcester, Massachusetts.

BLACKFINGER, the band featuring former TROUBLE vocalist Eric Wagner, has signed a worldwide deal with Germany's Church Within Records. The group's self-titled debut album will be released on CD and vinyl by the end of the year. A full tour in the support of the effort is in the works.

As previously reported, Dark Star Records will handle the digital release of the BLACKFINGER debut. The CD, with its many peaks and valleys of heaviness and melancholy, along with Wagner's signature vocals, will mark the singer's first recorded output since TROUBLE's 2007 release, "Simple Mind Condition".

In a recent interview with Metal Assault, Wagner stated about the BLACKFINGER LP, " It hasn't been an easy record to do. There were a lot of things that detoured me from working on it, personal things and stuff. I don't know. I get sick of hearing it and I have to take a break from it."

He continued: "I've been working on it for four, five years. There was the original lineup, which is different from today's lineup, I blew that one up because it wasn't working and I went back to writing and recording.

"In the past, we had a producer there, so all I had to do was concentrate on singing and writing lyrics, whereas with this one, I had to do everything. I had an engineer that would give me tones and sounds, but as far as recording, writing and arranging it, I had to be there. Sometimes I got a little sick of it. I had to walk away for a while.

"I'm really proud of it. It's heavy, it's dark. Heavier than I thought it would be, actually. It's definitely an album where you sit down and listen to the whole thing."

The new version of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS featuring LINKIN PARK's Chester Bennington will release an EP, "High Rise", on October 8 via 13Star Records. The effort will contain five new tracks, including "Out of Time" and "Tomorrow".

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will kick off a North American tour on September 4 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The opening act on almost all the dates will be FILTER. This will be the first major run of live dates, as well as the first official recording, since STP fired founding vocalist Scott Weiland earlier this year and recruited Bennington to take over.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Robert and Dean DeLeo recently revealed why STONE TEMPLE PILOTS parted way with Weiland. In a radio interview, Robert explained that he thinks that you get to a point in your life where your BS meter starts running down to a certain kind of tolerance and that it wasn't just a musical decision, but it was a business decision. Robert added: "It was a quality-of-life decision and that really what it's about. That's where we wanted to be. Chester is a person that's really surrounded by good fortune and that's something you want to be around. It's no longer three guys in a room, trying to make a record or trying to get a tour together — it's four guys in a room."

Dean explained that they wanted to be able to fulfill their commitment through the band too. He said: "Robert, Eric [Kretz, drums] and I, we want to be able to come to town and give you everything we've got and it was getting to a point where we were unable to do that."

STP will release the new EP through their own label. It will contain five songs, including "Out Of Time".

STP fired Weiland in February after reuniting with him in 2010 for a series of tours and one self-titled album. The band had previously been on hiatus since 2002, primarily due to the singer's struggles with drugs and alcohol.

The group sued Weiland in May, accusing him of using the band's name to advance his solo career, while claiming that his poor performances, late arrivals, and addiction struggles harmed the band's career.

Weiland has countersued, claiming that the band cannot use the STONE TEMPLE PILOTS name without him.

Norwegian psychedelic quartet SAHG, which specializes in doom-infused '70s rock, will release their new album, "Delusions Of Grandeur", on October 25 via Indie Recordings.

"Delusions Of Grandeur" is a concept record "about a person, whose delusions of grandeur escalate to the level where they consume him completely," explains SAHG's Olav Iversen (vocals, guitar). "From becoming increasingly psychopathic and dominant, he loses touch with everyone around him and isolates into his own imaginary, psychotic world, where he becomes the almighty ruler of the universe. As he stands on the highest peak of his domain and beholds all that he has conquered, he suddenly slips off the edge and floats away, weightless. Helpless and stripped of all power, he drifts further into the open space, until he disappears into the darkness. It's an album about how desire for power and property can distort and destroy who we are."

SAHG's new CD was recorded at Duper studio in Bergen, Norway.

SAHG's third album, "Sahg III", came out on August 30, 2010 through Indie.

Birmingham, Alabama rock band LYNAM will release its new EP entitled "Halfway To Hell" on October 15 via New Ocean Media. The CD was produced by the band and longtime producer Jason Elgin (COLLECTIVE SOUL, MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER, TERRIBLE THINGS).

A song from the EP, "Wrong Side Of The Grave", which was produced and co-written with Bruno Agra, can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below.

LYNAM will support POP EVIL on a string of dates in September, in addition to playing headlining shows.

LYNAM consists of Jacob Bunton (lead vocals, guitar), David Lynam (drums, vocals), Cody Elliott (Bass, Vocals), and Lonny Paul (guitar, vocals).

In 2006, LYNAM signed a deal with DRT/Universal and released the critically acclaimed album "Slave To The Machine". The follow-up CD, "Tragic City Symphony", was released in 2008 on Megaforce/Mascot Records and featured the radio singles "Save My Soul", "Lindsay Says" and "Porn Star". All three singles reached the Top 10 on the Active Rock independent chart, with "Save My Soul" reaching Top 5. A live album entitled "Thank You Goodnight!" was released November 2010 through Island Def Jam/New Ocean Media. Shortly after the release of "Thank You Goodnight!", frontman Jacob Bunton joined up with former GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler to form the band ADLER.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell was asked recently in an interview with Radio.com about the chances of his band getting inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. ALICE IN CHAINS' debut album, "Facelift", came out in 1990, which would make the group eligible in 2015. Cantrell, who performed at this year's ceremony with inductees HEART, said about the possibility, "We're not in this to win awards. And that's the attitude I went there with. And I have to say, in fairness, that my opinion was a bit changed by being a guest with HEART and seeing how much it meant for them. It was a cool show, it was with a lot of respect. I was kind of moved." Cantrell added, "I also liked what [RUSH drummer and Hall Of Fame inductee] Neil Peart said: 'For years, we've been saying that this isn't a big deal. Turns out: it's a pretty big deal!' It was cool to see him say that."

ALICE IN CHAINS' fellow Seattle groups, SOUNDGARDEN and PEARL JAM, are also at or close to eligibility. SOUNDGARDEN is eligible now, while PEARL JAM will celebrate 25 years since the release of "Ten" in 2016.

ALICE IN CHAINS is currently touring behind its fifth studio album, "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here", which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard album chart in June, selling 61,000 copies in its first week of release. The disc follows up 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue", which was the group's first all-new collection of material in 14 years. That CD opened with 126,000 units back in October 2009 to debut at No. 5.

ALICE IN CHAINS was last in the Top Two with its self-titled 1995 set, which debuted at No. 1 on that year's November 25 chart, according to Billboard.com. It would be their final studio release with singer Layne Staley, who died in 2002.

"The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" is ALICE IN CHAINS' second album with William DuVall on vocals.

DuVall began touring with the group in 2006, four years after the death of Layne Staley from a drug overdose.

ALICE IN CHAINS began working on the new disc in 2011, but the sessions for the album were delayed when Jerry Cantrell had to undergo shoulder surgery.

"Crucial Velocity", the new Aisha Tyler-directed video from Maryland rockers CLUTCH, can be seen below. The song comes off the band's latest album, "Earth Rocker", which sold 22,000 copies in its first week of release to debut at position No. 15 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Released via CLUTCH's own Weathermaker Music label, "Earth Rocker" entered the German Media Control chart at No. 71. In the U.K., the CD landed at No. 50 on the regular chart, No. 3 on the Rock/Metal Albums chart and No. 11 on the Independent Albums chart. Produced by Machine (LAMB OF GOD, FOUR YEAR STRONG, FALL OUT BOY) at the Machine Shop studio in Belleville, New Jersey, "Earth Rocker" was described by CLUTCH vocalist Neil Fallon in a recent interview with DCHeavyMetal.com as "probably faster than most of our recent albums. Maybe compared to some other bands, it's not the fastest thing on planet Earth. For us it was definitely a step up in the tempo. And I think the other thing that kind of stands out about this one is the blues influences that we've been flirting with over the past couple records is more or less absent in this record, which didn't really happen intentionally until we looked back at it. As a whole, it's just much more of a straight-up rock and roll record."

The artwork for "Earth Rocker" was created by Nick Lakiotes, longtime CLUTCH art director, who has worked on previous efforts, including "Robot Hive/Exodus" and "Strange Cousins From The West".

SARKE's third album, "Aruagint", will be released on September 20 via Indie Recordings. The CD was once again recorded at H-10 Productions studios in Oslo with producer Lars Erik Westby.

Says they band: "Our music is inspired by the great '70s rock bands, '80s speed metal bands and '90s black metal bands. Put this together with the creative mind of the band and your get pure dark rock music sounding is clear, raw and honest."

"Jesus Is Just Alright" was first recorded by Reynolds' own group, THE ART REYNOLDS SINGERS, on their 1966 album, "Tellin' It Like It Is". It was later covered by THE BYRDS and THE DOOBIE BROTHERS.

Regarding the musical direction of STRYPER's new material, Michael Sweet told Screamer Magazine: "The song 'God', which is on 'The Covering'; if you took that song along with 'Bleeding From Inside Out' and 'Blackened' [from 'Second Coming'], and you put it on the same album, that's a pretty good indication of where we are going and where we are at right now. But at the same time this album is all its own."

He added: "Every song has a hooky guitar riff. Everything is in minor keys, so it's a little darker sounding and a little tougher. It's definitely our heaviest record and I think people will be pleasantly surprised.

"The people who do like the poppier side of STRYPER, like 'Calling On You' and 'Holding On', this record isn't going to really give them that. There are a lot of vocal hooks and melodies going on, but it's a little darker, and a little edgier. To reference, there is less songs like 'Calling On You' and more songs like 'To Hell With The Devil'. It's more in that vein than the poppier vein."
