SERJ TANKIAN Has A Special Message For SYSTEM OF A DOWN FansSYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian has released the following message:
"I am extremely excited to announce the release of my new solo record, 'Imperfect Harmonies', on Tuesday, September 21. It represents a whole new sound, one that is a result of my musical experiences starting from SYSTEM, to my first solo record, 'Elect The Dead', to the orchestral 'Elect The Dead Symphony', to the present. It is an adventurous departure, some may say, from what I'm known for. Maybe it is. But if there are any whom I consider as adventurous musical fiends as I, it is you, the friends and fans of SYSTEM OF A DOWN. After all, when SYSTEM released our self-titled debut in 1997, it is you who understood us, not radio, not MTV, and certainly not the music industry.
"Check out [ this link] to listen to some music and watch a couple of videos from 'Imperfect Harmonies'.
"If you like what you hear, come join me later today at 7 p.m. PST at Ustream where we'll be doing a live video/audio stream of the whole 'Imperfect Harmonies' album from the studio where the live orchestra was recorded. I'll be doing a live video chat after the album playback is finished and answer some questions from all of you." 9

LEMMY On His Nazi Collection: \'I Only Collect The Stuff, I Didn\'t Collect The Ideas\'Michael Deeds of IdahoStatesman.com recently conducted an interview with MOTÖRHEAD's Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
On the major profile Rolling Stone magazine did on him in late 2009:
Lemmy: "It was quite funny, because I brought (the journalist) around to my house, which looks like a shrine to Nazism. But it's just my collection. I mean, you can't put it all in the cupboard; it won't fit.
"I only collect the stuff. I didn't collect the ideas."
On legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio, who died from stomach cancer in May:
Lemmy: "Yeah, that's rough. I mean, apart from him being a great friend of mine, he now leaves me being the oldest. Because he was older than me by about six months."
DISTURBED frontman David Draiman had strong words for rock musicians who collect Nazi memorabilia in a recent interview with Revolver magazine. When asked about artists such as Lemmy Kilmister and SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman who collect Nazi artifacts, Draiman said, "That's super-duper taboo and offensive to me. I don't understand the fascination. It's the most provocative imagery that you can brandish, and that's why people utilize it. And if that's their goal, I guess they're achieving it."
When told that Kilmister, who has been known to wear Iron Crosses and hats from the German air force, defends himself by saying he's just collecting artifacts of war history, Draiman replied, "I don't give a fuck who you are. If you're going to brandish Nazi symbolism, I'm going to have a problem with you because I don't understand how anybody could think it's OK to wear something on their body that symbolizes the annihilation and genocide of my people. I'm not OK with that and there is no excuse and there is no explanation."
MOTÖRHEAD recently completed recording its new album for an early 2011 release. The forthcoming CD will be the follow-up to "Motörizer", which sold a little more than 6,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 82 on The Billboard 200 chart.
"Motörizer" was recorded in part (drums only) at FOO FIGHTERS frontman/ex-NIRVANA drummer Dave Grohl's Studio 606 in Northridge, California with producer Cameron Webb, who also worked on "Kiss of Death" and 2004's "Inferno". 20

GOD DETHRONED: New Album Title, Concept RevealedDutch death metallers GOD DETHRONED have finished recording their ninth album, "Under The Sign Of The Iron Cross", at the Soundlodge Studios in Leer, Germany.
Comments singer/guitarist Henri Sattler: "Just like with our two previous albums, we've been recording at Soundlodge with producer Jörg Uken.
"'Under The Sign Of The Iron Cross' is another concept album about World War One. Having done a concept album about this topic before didn't make it an easy job, but reading Ernst Juenger's 'In Stahlgewittern' (Storm of Steel), which is his biography of his daily experiences in the trenches during the war, gave me so much inspiration that I managed to do a good job on the lyrics and I'm really satisfied with the result, but this is, of course, something you will have to check out for yourselves.
"Musically, the new album turned out to be one of the most extreme records we ever did. Nevertheless with the very recognizable GOD DETHRONED hooks present in all the songs. Producer Jörg Uken outdid himself this time, because our new album is, in my opinion, the best-produced album we ever had. Extremely raw, heavy, but crystal clear and super dynamic at the same time."

COREY TAYLOR: I Can\'t Even Think About SLIPKNOT Right NowJoe Bosso of MusicRadar.com recently conducted an interview with STONE SOUR/SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
MusicRadar.com: What would you say have been the differences between cutting "Audio Secrecy" and STONE SOUR's last album, [2006's] "Come What(ever) May"?
Corey: "Forgetting all the personal stuff, no major changes. You know, some of us have been doing this band since before SLIPKNOT, so we know each other real well, and we've grown up a lot. Nobody gets bent out of shape if there's constructive criticism or suggestions. We're all in this to make the best music possible.
"I think the biggest change has been the stuff that Roy [Mayorga, drums] has brought in. He wrote some fantastic material, extremely melodic yet very rhythmic. This is the first time he's been able to write for a band that he's been in, and man, his songs fit like a glove with everything else we've written. He's a supreme talent, and this record is going to show the world that."
MusicRadar.com: Aside from the fact that there's less people involved, what's different about working with SLIPKNOT versus a smaller outfit such as STONE SOUR?
Corey: "Things just feel easier with STONE SOUR. We're a real tight group, we get along real well, and we're such fans of each other's writing. We get real excited when somebody brings music in. As you can imagine, when there's not as many people in the mix, it's a lot easier to add things to the music, to bend the songs and shape them a bit and take them to higher places. Working with SLIPKNOT…things are always kind of in place."
MusicRadar.com: Obviously, it's been a hard year for SLIPKNOT. The death of Paul Gray was very tragic…
Corey: [sighs] "Yeah, it's been…Honestly, it still feels too soon to even talk about all of this. We're all still processing it and trying to figure out how even deal with it. Paul's death was such a heavy blow. He was such a huge, huge part of the band. His creativity, his writing…I don't think he ever really got the credit he deserved.
"As far as I'm concerned, I don't even want to talk about the fact that he's gone. It's such a loss. And as for SLIPKNOT and its plans, there are no plans. There are no plans whatsoever."
MusicRadar.com: I understand that the loss of Paul is still fresh in your mind, but even as an abstract, without a timetable involved, can you foresee SLIPKNOT getting back together?
Corey: "I don't know. I really don't know, to be honest. I can't even think about SLIPKNOT right now. It's kind of the last thing on my mind right now. But when we figure it out, we'll let the world know. I just can't say when that might be." 11

AEROSMITH Plays Final Show Of \'Cocked, Locked, And Ready to Rock!\' Tour In Vancouver (Video)Boston hard rock legends AEROSMITH played the final show of their "Cocked, Locked, and Ready to Rock!" tour last Thursday, September 16 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
The band's setlist was as follows:
01. Same Old Song And Dance
02. Train Kept A Rollin'
03. No More No More
04. Love In An Elevator
05. Jaded
06. Livin' On The Edge
07. What It Takes
08. Pink
09. Last Child
10. Cryin'
11. Joey Kramer Drum Solo
12. Rag Doll
13. Joe Perry Solo
14. Stop Messin' Around

16. Come Together
17. Sweet Emotion
18. Draw The Line
Encore:
19. Chip Away The Stone (with Jesse Kramer on drums)
20. Dream On
21. Walk This Way
Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be viewed below.
As previously reported, former Geffen Records executive John Kalodner, who guided AEROSMITH's '80s comeback and supervised some of their biggest albums, told the New York Post that guitarist Joe Perry was "completely wrong" when he said recently that singer Steven Tyler would not have pursued being an "American Idol" judge during the band's early years. Kalodner said that Tyler always "sought Hollywood recognition, and now he can get that," adding, "Joe is completely wrong. It's jealousy. He's ultra pissed off."
Perry told the Calgary Herald on September 7, "('American Idol') is one step above Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles . . . I'll tell you one thing, when we put this band together, this is not something that (Steven Tyler) would do."
Kalodner said about Tyler joining the program, "I don't know what will happen because Steven gets his energy from singing in front of 20,000 people. Sitting in a TV studio with scripted sound bites? I'm not sure he'd be able to even use his own great quips. I'll be able to tell you in the first show or two if he'll be his superstar self."
As for Perry's veiled threat that AEROSMITH could continue touring with a different singer while Tyler is doing "American Idol", Kalodner said, "If (Tyler) makes a giant success as a TV personality, he won't want to go back on the road. And there is no AEROSMITH without Steven Tyler. Period."

MIKE TERRANA\'s \'Sinfonica\' Combines Classic Music With Rock DrummingDrummer Mike Terrana (TARJA TURUNEN, MASTERPLAN, AXEL RUDI PELL, SAVAGE CIRCUS, RAGE, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) has completed work on his third solo album, "Sinfonica", which contains 11 famous classical orchestral tracks accompanied by his drumming.
Commented Terrana: "The idea for the 'Sinfonica' project originally came into being, because I wanted to make a tribute song for one of my favorite drummers, Cozy Powell [RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN].
"Cozy was tragically killed in a car accident 10 years ago. I felt this was a great loss to the music and drumming community and I wanted to do something in a musical context to keep his memory alive.
"In 1976, I was fortunate enough to see Cozy Powell play along to an abbreviated version of Tchaikovsky's '1812 Overture' in his drum solo with RAINBOW. It was fascinating to see a rock drummer attempting to play such a monumental piece of classical music.
"During the early part of 2009 I was thinking about how I could pay my respects to Mr. Powell, when I came upon the idea to record a new version of the '1812 Overture'. I started working on the '1812 Overture' track in the summer of 2009 and was very satisfied with the outcome. I enjoyed playing along with the orchestral tracks so much that I decide to seek out another 10 well-known classical pieces. This is a task more easily said then done, because there is a multitude of classical music out there, but not all of it works within the boundaries of the drumming concept. Once I found the correct pieces, I set to work on adapting and composing drum grooves and fills to go along with the music.
"I tried to envision what it would have been like if composers such as Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Rossini would have been able to employ the services of a modern day rock drummer to play on their compositions.
"A little over a year later from the inception of this project, I am proud to announce the completion of 'Sinfonica'. This CD contains 11 classical pieces, a 'Making of Sinfonica' video, and two performance videos.
"'Sinfonica' is a celebration of some of the greatest and most famous classical music ever written and a tribute to the main inspiration for this project, Cozy Powell."
"Sinfonica" track listing:
01. New World Symphony - Antonín Dvorák
02. William Tell Overture - Gioachino Rossini
03. Rondo - J. Mouret
04. Concert For Violin & Oboe - Johann Sebastian Bach
05. Washington Post - John Philip Sousa
06. Barber Of Seville - Gioachino Rossini
07. Pomp & Circumstance - Sir. Edward Elgar
08. Nutcracker Suite - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
09. Cancan - Jacques Offenbach
10. Eine Kleine Nachtmusik - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
11. 1812 Overture - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky 3

\'The Big Four\' DVD: New Release Dates AnnouncedUniversal Music will release "The Big Four: Live From Sofia, Bulgaria" DVD and Blu-ray containing footage of the June 22, 2010 Sonisphere cinecast from the Sofia, Bulgaria leg of the touring rock festival featuring the "Big Four" of 1980s thrash metal — METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX. The DVD hits the streets on October 29 in Northern Europe, November 1 in most of the rest of the world, November 2 in North America and the full shows from all four bands will be included in the two-disc set along with behind-the-scenes and interview footage.
According to a posting on METALLICA's official web site, "you can now pre-order the deluxe set in the Metallica Store. METALLICA was joined onstage during the show by members of MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX for a performance of the DIAMOND HEAD song "Am I Evil?"
METALLICA frontman James Hetfield, MEGADETH singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine and ANTHRAX vocalist Joey Belladonna took turns singing the song, which has been a part of METALLICA's live set for decades. The event marked the first time that Dave Mustaine had performed onstage with METALLICA since April 9, 1983. An original member of the band, he was fired just weeks before METALLICA recorded its debut album, "Kill 'Em All".
Mustaine, who was replaced by Kirk Hammett, went on to form MEGADETH and achieve worldwide success on his own.
He still harbored a grudge against METALLICA, however, with some of his feelings coming out in an intense scene with drummer Lars Ulrich in the 2005 documentary "Some Kind Of Monster".
According to Billboard.com, the Sonisphere cinecast from Sofia was beamed via satellite in HD to cinemas and was seen by more than 100,000 fans. It was distributed globally into hundreds of cinemas by New York-based BY Experience.
In the U.K. it was screened in 79 cinemas. "At the Odeon in Leicester Square in London there was a mosh pit, and at the end of the show they had a stage invasion, which is just phenomenal to even think about," promoter Stuart Galbraith told Billboard.com.

KATATONIA Guitars Stolen In MinnesotaSweden's KATATONIA has issued the following update:
"Unfortunately [Saturday night's] gig [at Station 4 in St. Paul, Minnesota] reached an all-time low. Two of our guitars got stolen (including the straps and the wireless transmitters), obviously causing performance difficulties, frustration and anger. Then, against all odds, further technical problems kept on coming down one after another during the show.
"Apologies go out to our fans in Minnesota for having to go through this."
The band added, "We just wanna encourage everybody already to help us keep an eye out for the guitars on pawn shops, Craigslist, eBay, etc. etc., and let us know immediately if they show up.
"Pictures of the Mayones guitars can be seen in the giveaway competition ad [below]. Yes, that's right, the thief/thieves actually stole the guitars we were gonna give to you, our fans, at the end of this tour." 11

We will add some cool bonus stuff. It will be history, interviews, a picture gallery with 500 photos from the Wacken show, the video, making of and we’ve got some shots of the highlands and stuff that we did 15 years ago, that we’ll put into the (concert). We’ve got some movie stuff and it will be a little like The Song Remains The Same (film). The cover is really cool, it’s the first time we’ve had three reapers on the same cover. Funny thing is, Hansi wore a kilt, but on the wrong side! We saw some footage from the DVD recordings and you can see his underwear. " 4
