"Night Is The New Day" is the long-awaited new studio album of transcendental, atmospheric rock and metal, exploring the darker corners of audial melancholy. It was recorded throughout July 2009 and was co-produced, engineered and mixed by David Castillo. A continuation of the heaviness, depth and atmosphere of their previous album, "Night Is The New Day" is also a more multi-dimensional effort — waltzing between prog moments, doom, folk & the classic melodic anthems that are the staple of KATATONIA's uncompromising sound, completed by the haunting tones of Jonas Renkse's vocal journeys of urban and emotional decay. Cover art once again comes courtesy of Travis Smith (KATATONIA, OPETH, NOVEMBRE) and continues the stylistic identity established so effectively since "The Great Cold Distance".
Commented the band: "It's now been three years since 'The Great Cold Distance' came out and, rightfully so, we had to let the distance ring out long and loud. KATATONIA was not a product conceived at a manufacturing facility. We never inserted ourselves inside the grinding wheel of being a product line — hyped when brand new, tossed away when outdated. Bands come and go, rise and fall. We're a brick in that wall too, but won't crash overnight, because we walked this road for two decades, slowly. Fortunately, we're past the level where struggling bands get caught in the claws of the fast food concept of the music industry. From day one, it was always about a long term mission, something to go hand in hand and accompany a chosen lifestyle through all its stages. The foundation and concept of KATATONIA was, and still is, to channel the negative aspects of living into artistic creativity, and we're well aware that the outcome of that is simply not for everyone to embrace. Our new work is manifested in the whole album as a solid piece, not as destined selections for the very commercial media to deliver the soundtrack to accompany John Doe's shallow daily routines. Airplay doesn't last, but albums are forever.
"KATATONIA cannot be creatively driven by anyone or anything but our own hands, but also we, in turn, need the guidance from our inner demons to understand the direction that lies ahead. The only fuel compatible to our engine is the magic of definite and divine inspiration, without it things go stumbling in the dark, unable to progress nor regress. KATATONIA started because we had a calling and will end when our inner demons no longer speak to us. This time it took a while longer to discover what was behind the door at the end of the long corridor we walked down with the last album. In this time it took for us to get here, we discovered that we could extract the distraction that kept blocking us and use it as the source of inspiration itself; all the fear and worries of the dark times ahead, the apathy of the current state of mind, the lack of hope, the struggle to find a meaning and, maybe most of all, realizing the decline of the western civilization is constantly growing and well underway. That will be the time when the night is the new day." 18

CHILDREN OF BODOM - Blooddrunk World Tour DoneFinnish metallers CHILDREN OF BODOM have issued the following Blooddrunk World Tour wrap-up:
"We started in May 2008, when the album came out. With MEGADETH in USA. Summer arrived and we escaped to Australia's and New Zealand's winter. Then a longer flight to Japan, back to warmth and the perfect noodlesoups. We also did some festivals in Europe including Wacken and Download.
Back to USA as headliner, after which we hit arenas with SLIPKNOT and MACHINE HEAD in Europe. Here and there a couple headliners in between. Christmas home and New Years too. Beginning of the year was time for the longawaited headlining in Europe. Managed to get CANNIBAL CORPSE and DIABLO with us.
Then experienced a couple of weeks of spring time in Finland, and off we go, with LAMB OF GOD, North America. Somebody falls from his bunk and we go home. Summertime, everything healed, and we hit some festivals, but also had the chance to enjoy the Finnish summer. Summer ends and we fly to spring of Buenos Aires, from where we start the last thing of this cycle. Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, USA, Canada, Hawaii, Japan, Hongkong, Beijing, Taipei and finally Moscow.
We toured with many bands, many crew. Met a lot of nice people, weird people, funny people. Tasted weird foods, emptied minibars, swam in the ocean. Pounded Brazilian Churrascaria beef, had tons of nigiris in Tokyo, french fries animal style in Cali and poutine in Canada. We enjoyed the tropical heat, fruits and surf in Honolulu, also the hospitality of locals in the Irish Bar, and the day after around the island, ending in Gyu-Kaku.
Played many cities where we never headlined before, including Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Clifton Parks, Beijing, Taipei, Hongkong, Honolulu, Monterrey, Buenos Aires...
Learned to say hello in Chinese and Cantonese, not to forget the dirty phrases in Japanese in Rock-Rock.
We wanna thank all the fans we had the honour to play with!
And the really nice fans who we were able to meet!
Thanks goes to all the bands we toured with, all the cool crew we met and worked with, especially our own crew and our management. All the locals who made shows happen, all the locals who helped us out, whether it was ordering a pizza or showing me the Tiananmen square.
We're done now for a while. Concentrating on writing.
But after all's done, we will do the same again!!!!" 7

DEAD SHAPE FIGURE\'s Former Guitarist Rejoins Band On BassFormer DEAD SHAPE FIGURE guitarist Erno "Ere" Talvitie (2004-2008) has rejoined the Finnish thrash metal outfit as the band's new bassist.
Commented Ere: "After about two years of being out DEAD SHAPE FIGURE and almost totally out of music 'business,' and, being as replenishing as it was, it felt damn good to get the call from the figures and being asked to play bass.
"I'm sure that almost everybody who knows Neissu's [former DEAD SHAPE FIGURE bassist] talents, whether they relate to bass playing or drinking Jaloviina and smoking cigarettes like a crazy-ass motherfucker, expect at least something like that from me too. Well, I'm not here to take Neissu's boots, simply because it's impossible. I don't think that you can find anyone in this country who could do that and still be a character that you are willing to keep in the band.
"This is something I'm asked to do and I'm quite eager to see what I'm able to bring to DEAD SHAPE FIGURE from behind the bass guitar.
"Anyway, it's so fucking good to be back with this group, but I'm taking this post slowly, day by day to see what next year brings us."

IMMOLATION Begins Recording New AlbumVeteran death metallers IMMOLATION have entered Millbrook Sound Studios in New York with longtime producer Paul Orofino to begin recording their eighth album, due in early 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records.
Commented the band: "This will be our sixth time visiting Millbrook Studios and we are really looking forward to the whole process.
"The new album will contain 10 songs of the strongest material we have ever written.
"The new material is more violent and aggressive, with fast sections that take us to a new level of speed and intensity, while complementing the dark and sullen heavier moments. There are plenty of miserable and militant movements to please the diehard and new IMMOLATION fans alike.
"We've spent the past two months rehearsing and fine-tuning the songs so that all ten are stand-outs and create a complete listening experience. Needless to say, we are all very pleased and enthusiastic about the new material and are anxious to debut it to the fans.
"Following the recording process here in Millbrook, we have decided to try something new for the mixing process, so we have enlisted the talents of Zack Ohren (DECREPIT BIRTH, SUFFOCATION, ALL SHALL PERISH). We are confident he will do an excellent job in giving a fresh new life to the IMMOLATION sound.
"We are still in the process of getting ideas together for the album's concept and cover art, but these final details will be worked out in the near future."
Catch IMMOLATION as direct support to NILE on the "Those Whom The Gods Detest Tour" in January/February.
The upcoming album will be the third consecutive release featuring IMMOLATION's current lineup:
Ross Dolan - Bass, Vocals
Robert Vigna - Guitars
Bill Taylor - Guitars
Steve Shalaty - Drums 2

ANCARA: \'Tears With A Smile\' Video Released"Tears With A Smile", the new video from Finnish hard rockers ANCARA, can be viewed below. The song — which is described as "a duet ballad" — features a guest appearance by Agnes Pihlava, a finalist in the 2005 Finnish national TV talent competition "Idols".
Commented frontman Sammy Salminen: "I wanted to write a song like 'Black Snow' from our first album. I still like the lyrics in that one. 'We Paint December' is not a preaching song, but more of a story about 'fear' images of the future. I think the humanity is painting our last colors in to our works right on the very planet, if nothing will change. The song is one of the heaviest songs on the album and it was one of the last songs that we finished in the sessions. Because planning the Christmas starts earlier each year, so how about we put to our wish lists: Dear Santa, could we get a new brain to our society?"
"Tears With A Smile" comes off ANCARA's third album, "Chasing Shadows", which was released in Finland on October 21. According to the group, the CD's release was "postponed by two months because the band decided to release the album independently though their own Dks Music label and give the Finnish distribution in to Bonnier Amigo Music's hands. Co-operation with Timo Kotipelto (STRATOVARIUS, KOTIPELTO) [who released ANCARA's last album, 2007's 'Beyond the Dark', through his High & Loud label] still continues, with his contacts Europe has shown some interest towards ANCARA, and the band starts their European tour in October."

LORDI Preparing To Record New AlbumFinnish heavy metal monsters LORDI are preparing to enter the studio to begin recording their new album for an early 2010 release. 25 songs have already been recorded in demo form for the follow-up to 2008's "Deadache" and the band is currently holding meetings with the upcoming CD's producer (whose identity has not yet been revealed, but who is said to be "a name I'd guess some of [the fans] are or could be somewhat familiar with," according to singer Mr. Lordi) to determine which tracks will make the final cut. "So far it is safe to say that the material is kinda 'Get Heavy' [the band's 2002 debut] LORDI-like, with a strong '80s metal feel, more melodic, and a lot less sinister and 'serious' than on 'Deadache'," says Mr. Lordi. "One thing is for sure, there's not gonna be cover songs on the next one either. In my mind, [a] cover's place is not on an actual album; it could serve as a bonus for a special printing or something. Like with 'The House Without A Name' [LORDI's cover of the DINGO track], for example." He adds, "I might also tell you that the ideas of the new look are starting to come together. There'll be a bit more colorful bunch of monsters next year.
"Deadache" debuted at No. 13 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. 7
