PELICAN: Entire New Album Available For Streaming"What We All Come To Need", the fourth full-length album from Chicago's PELICAN, is being streamed in its entirety on the band's MySpace page.
"What We All Come To Need" is scheduled for release on October 27 via Southern Lord Recordings. Described by guitarist Laurent Lebec as "the most perfect synthesis of everything we've done to date, sonically," the CD is "a giant step forward within the complex, intricate, beautiful and crushing sound PELICAN is famous for," according to a press release. The album features more guests than have ever appeared on a PELICAN album before: Greg Anderson of SUNN O))), Aaron Turner of ISIS, Ben Verellen of HARKONEN and Helms Alee and Allen Epley from THE LIFE AND TIMES and SHINER. Content-wise, Lebec says "there is a current of inspiration that feels particular to each album's music and titles. Though we lack a singer, the song names are often conceptual. This new album speaks to a rapidly decaying world, the fulfillment we find in each other, as well as the resolve to move beyond disillusionment."
"What We All Come To Need" track listing:
01. Glimmer
02. The Creeper
03. Ephemeral
04. Specks Of Light
05. Strung Up From The Sky
06. An Inch Above Sand
07. What We All Come To Need

MEDICATED Parts Ways With GuitaristMEDICATED, the Finnish metal band featuring former IMPERANON vocalist Aleksi Sihvonen, has parted ways with guitarist Jesse Soiletsalo. The group says in a statement, "For a while, [Jesse] has been thinking what it is that he wants to do. This has led him to realize that MEDICATED isn't quite the band for him anymore. He will still continue making music through his own projects.
"Jesse is a great guitarist and we hope all the best for him. We have to continue on our own ways but the friendship between us will remain.
"Although our group is incomplete at the moment, it will not affect our process of making new music. So now we are working to get our songs ready and we will begin recording somewhere around turn of the year, as scheduled."
Formed in 2005, MEDICATED describes its music as "thrash/death metal with big choruses, screaming and clean vocals, hard rhythms and fast lead guitars."
The band's current lineup is as follows:
Aleksi Sihvonen - Vocals
Samuli Hyttinen - Guitar
Jani Kinnunen - Bass
Pertti Pätsi - Drums
Earlier in the year, MEDICATED teamed up with STAM1NA, Timo Rautiainen, Timo Kotipelto (STRATOVARIUS) and LEVERAGE for a short Finnish tour called "Kaveria ei jätetä" (translation: "Never leave a friend behind!") which collected money to help the voluntary youth mental healthcare in Finland.

SLAYER\'s \'World Painted Blood\' Deluxe Edition To Include \'Playing With Dolls Horror\' ShortIt was only a matter of time before SLAYER's lyrics leapt off the printed page and made their wanton way to the visual medium. The band's discography is gorged with tales of mass murderers, serial sadists and drooling deviants of every stripe — vicious mental cases just begging for a cinematic reception.
Enter "Metalocalypse" director and big-time SLAYER fan Mark Brooks who created a 20-minute DVD titled "Playing with Dolls", a 12-episode video-graphic novel that will be included exclusively in SLAYER's "World Painted Blood" deluxe edition, out November 3 in tandem with the "World Painted Blood" standard edition. Inspired by the songs on "World Painted Blood" — in particular Jeff Hanneman's "Playing With Dolls", from which the horror short takes its title — the film blends elements of animation and still-photography into a visual style similar to that of a graphic novel. A trailer for the short can be viewed below. The soundtrack for the "Playing With Dolls" short features clips from all 11 of the songs on "World Painted Blood"; in addition, the music bed for episode No. 7 is taken from "Atrocity Vendor", a new song that is not on the album.
"It's not live action and it's not animated," Brooks explains. "It's a weird hybrid of the two, and I haven't seen a lot of things done this way."
No mere music video, "Playing with Dolls" is a stark, 12-part nightmare that breathes corrupt life into SLAYER's latest syllabus of stalkers, psychopaths and serial killers, merging their aberrant psyches into the supremely focused desire of a single, merciless malcontent. A methodical distillation of one man's lethal frenzy, the film follows the gruesome outbursts of a nameless protagonist. He is not an indiscriminate murder junkie, but rather a highly creative snuff-artist with a deeply personal sense of purpose — a man for whom murder is the only conceivable way forward. With a black heart hardened by tragedy, he chooses his victims carefully. His methods are as grisly and varied as they are poetic.
"It's a little weirder than your regular blood n' guts type thing," Brooks says of the storyline, "which I think is a reflection of SLAYER's music."
But make no mistake: There will be blood, and plenty of it. As the real-life boyfriend of one of the film's "victims" told Brooks after a private screening, "I almost threw up while I watching that. And I think that's a compliment."
SLAYER — bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and drummer Dave Lombardo — started recording "World Painted Blood", the band's 10th studio album, last October in a Los Angeles studio with producer Greg Feldeman, and completed it this past May. Recording "World Painted Blood" was a unique experience for SLAYER who has historically begun the recording process with all songs written and fully rehearsed. This time, they did the bulk of writing and song development while in the studio. According to drummer Dave Lombardo, "On this record, we worked a lot more collectively, we were more attentive to each other's ideas and willing to try them, which only benefited the album." "World Painted Blood" is indeed a SLAYER album, and consequently deals with topics such as death and destruction, war, serial killers, and the Apocalypse. "Psychopathy Red", leaked online a year ago, was inspired by the heinous Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, a.k.a. the Rostov Ripper, who confessed to brutally murdering 56 children. "Beauty Through Order" (Kerry King: "one of Jeff's songs, it has a very heavy 'do me' intro to it then explodes with a really cool vibe,") "Unit 731", "Playing With Dolls" (Lombardo: an awesome track, great song structure, great vibe"), "Public Display of Dismemberment", and "Americon", a King composition. Of "Americon", King explains, "It's about what I think the rest of the world thinks of America. We may not be big on a lot of people's lists, but I don't care what you think of my government, of my economy, or whatever. I live here and this is one of the best places that I've ever found to live. So f*#k you if you don't like it."
"World Painted Blood" will initially ship with four special collector's edition CD covers ( 1, 2, 3, 4). Each of the four covers will display one-fourth of a provocative continental map illustrated with human skulls and bones; when placed together, the four images form a complete and grisly map of the world. 11

METALLICA - Francais Pour Une Nuit DVD Details RevealedMETALLICA have issued the following update:
On July 7th of this year we were honored to perform at Arenes de Nimes, the historic Roman amphitheatre in Nimes, France, easily one of the most spectacular venues in the world. We thought it would be a memorable night, so we asked our friends in France to bring along a film crew to document the festivities. The result is Francais Pour Une Nuit (translation: French For One Night), the DVD of the evening including the full show, interviews with us, and five videos shot by YOU, our buddies in the audience. All this and more will be available starting November 23rd, 2009!
Francais Pour Une Nuit was extra special for us because not only was it filmed in France, but ALL aspects of the project are French as the show was filmed, recorded, and edited with French camera and recording crews, the artwork on the package and special box set (more on that in a minute!) were created by a French design team; even the credits are in French. The only non-French parts: the three Americans and one Dane on stage and the photos shot by Englishman Ross Halfin.
The DVD will be available in retail stores in France only, at metallica.com, or you may order online through the record company at metallicanimes.com. There will be three formats available: Standard DVD in a digipack including a 16 page booklet, Blu-Ray DVD, also in a digipack with the booklet, and the deluxe limited edition box set (it's actually a tin) that includes the DVD, a copy of Death Magnetic on CD, a T-shirt, laminated pass, and five exclusive photos.
