WRECK-DEFY Featuring Former ANNIHILATOR, TESTAMENT, DEMOLITION HAMMER Members Release Official Lyric Video For "Broken Peace"

WRECK-DEFY Featuring Former ANNIHILATOR, TESTAMENT, DEMOLITION HAMMER Members Release Official Lyric Video For "Broken Peace"

Wreck-Defy, featuring former members of Annihilator, Testament and Demolition Hammer, released their new, first edition album, Remnants Of Pain on February 1st. The album was mixed, mastered and edited by Juan Urteaga who also produced Testament, Heathen, Vicious Rumors, and Dragonlord to name a few.

Finland's Inverse Records officially release the album today (September 27th). They have released a new lyric video for the previously released single, "Broken Peace", which can be viewed below.

"The new record has a street level sound that is a throwback to the burgeoning thrash metal movement from the mid 80's with a more modern day production value. To me thrash metal is about honesty, integrity and just an overall street level approach to things...lyrically its about many of the negative aspects in life such as war, addiction, tyranny, etc." says Matt Hanchuck.

Wreck-Defy began in 2016 when Matt Hanchuck got together with his friend Justin Steer who agreed to do the vocals on the debut record Fragments of Anger. They brought in Shawn Drover from Megadeth to play all the drums on the first album... combining that with the fact that his brother Glen... also ex-Megadeth alumni agreed to mix and master the album which gave it some notoriety so to speak... credibility if you will.

The current lineup of the band is Matt Hanchuck on guitar, Aaron Randall (ex-Annihilator) on vocals and Greg Christian (ex-Testament) on bass. For the album they used Dave O'Neal as a studio session drummer... but moving forward they've been able to recruit the amazing Alex Marquez from Demolition Hammer and Solstice for future tours and shows.

Tracklisting:

"Killing The Children"
"Broken Peace"
"Riverview"
"Looking Back"
"18oz Of Chrome"
"The Divide"
"Art Of Addiction"
"Angels And Demons"
"Blackend Cloth"

Finland's POST PULSE Release New Single "Machinery Of Lies"

Finland's POST PULSE Release New Single "Machinery Of Lies"

Post Pulse is a unique death metal band hailing from Helsinki, Finland. Consisting of members Antti Karhu (ex-The Man-Eating Tree), Sam Roon (Hung), Tapani Rantanen and Anttoni Välimaa, the multi-cultural lineup produces a sound that marries American and Finnish death metal styles. The result is a rhythm-heavy, aggressive, and impactful body of work that stands out among bands in their genres on both sides of the ocean.

They have released a new single, "Machinery Of Lies", which is available for streaming below.

Post Pulse released their new EP, The Price You Paid, earlier this year, which includes a cover of the classic Jimi Hendrix cut "Crosstown Traffic". It is available as a free download from the Post Pulse Bandcamp page, or via all digital platforms

"The Price You Paid" is an aggressive track and in your face by design, and includes a few truly special epic moments that encourage you to smash things around you. "Crosstown Traffic" was carefully crafted to pay homage to the original Jimi Hendrix classic, while remaining true to the Post Pulse sound. The EP is mixed by Ryan Kelly at Garden Sound Studio and mastered by Andreas Andersson at Servant Studio (www.servantstudio.com).

Post Pulse's own Antti Karhu has once again put together some amazing videos for the tracks. "The Price You Paid" has an original style for a lyric video, and "Crosstown Traffic" pays tribute to the original Jimi Hendrix music video.

California Symphonic Death Metal Act CREPUSCLE Stream New Single "In The Winds Of Glory"

California Symphonic Death Metal Act CREPUSCLE Stream New Single "In The Winds Of Glory"

"In The Winds Of Glory" is the epic new single from Redwood City, California-based symphonic / melodic death metal quintet Crepuscle. The track has been unveiled in advance of the band's impending second LP, Heavenly Skies, nearing an October 11th release through Creator-Destructor Records.

Offers the band of the "In The Winds Of Glory" track, "'In The Winds Of Glory' is a track unlike anything we have previously released. The folk metal influences are undeniable, and the tempo does not relent, making this one of the rare instances where we keep it fast all the way through. We hope you're ready for battle and for some melodies to get stuck in your head."

Heavenly Skies by Crepuscle

The eleven dynamic songs which create Crepuscle's Heavenly Skies were heavily captured by the band, with all guitars, bass, and vocals recorded at founding member Eligio Tapia's home studio during sessions over an entire year. The tracks were reamped by Nick Loiacono at Fang Studios in San Mateo, who also recorded the drums and acoustic guitars, and handled mixing and mastering. Fitted with vibrant cover art by German artist Aerroscape, the Heavenly Skies LP is now completed for its release.

Crepuscle - a reference to the time of day immediately following sunset - released their initial demo in 2013, followed by their independently-released debut full-length, Draconian Winter, the following year, resulting in a sponsorship from ESP Guitars. The band's epic and intense songs blend elements of melodic death metal and symphonic, orchestral finesse, delivering excellent songwriting and instantly infectious movements in the vein of Wintersun, Hypocrisy, Kalmah, and Insomnium. After a five-year wait, the band is now ready to unveil their second album, Heavenly Skies.

Tracklisting:

"Aurora"
"Heavenly Skies"
"Faultline"
"Severed"
"Ethereal Waters"
"In The Winds Of Glory"
"Lunar Lullaby"
"Elapsing Eternity"
"Resignation"
"Road To Peril"
"Limitless"

Exclusive: XAON Premieres “Eros” Video

Exclusive: XAON Premieres “Eros” Video

An elusive name born amidst Switzerland's highest mountains, Xaon never quite fitted in any of the numerous galleries metal has to offer, drifting through the extremes whilst juxtaposing finesse and vehemence from an unworldly orchestra, endlessly exploring the vast echoic gloominess of the human mind.

In only a few short years, the combo led by Vincent Zermatten (guitars) and Rob Carson (vocals/orchestrations) has managed to tour the world through the release of their critically acclaimed debut album The Drift, notably across Europe with gothic metal monsters Sirenia and folk metal legends Tyr, in Japan with Obscura and Archspire, in the US with The Veer Union, and sharing the stage in festivals across Europe with bands such as Megadeth, Testament, Exodus, Gojira, Paradise Lost, Eluveitie and many more.

Xaon returned with their 2nd album somberly entitled Solipsis available through Mighty Music, bringing the band's grandiose aggressiveness to a whole new level, pummeling their way through a cataclysmic atmosphere while reaching a new majestic apotheosis. This album is set to debut in the spring, which will see the band performing across Europe with Septicflesh and Krisiun while continuing to prove themselves as an upcoming force around the Metal world.

Solipsis is out on CD, LTD LP & digital on  through Mighty Music and BraveWords is premiering the video for the track “Eros”.

Rob, vocalist of Xaon about “Eros”:

"We are very excited to finally unveil this new music video for our song "Eros", directed once again by Brice Hincker from CHS Prod and shot between the Tabernas desert in Spain and a chapel in Mulhouse (FR). The thematic follows the solipsistic concept present throughout the album and delves into the realisations of, not only absolute solitude, but also total abandonment."

Exclusive: STARGAZER Premieres “So Now You're Leaving" Video

Exclusive: STARGAZER Premieres “So Now You're Leaving" Video

Stargazer has premiered their third single, “So Now You're Leaving”, through BraveWords! After years of struggle on the tiny hard rock scene of Norway playing festivals and support for bands like Jorn, Stage Dolls, D-A-D, Gary Moore, Nazareth and more, Stargazer is now ready to take on the world with their second album, The Sky Is The Limit. The album will be released October 11 through Mighty Music.

The line-up consists of founding members William Ernstsen on guitars and Tore André Helgemo on vocals. New members are drummer BP Hovik (Peer Gynt, Ronni Le Tekrø+Terje Rypdal) and last but not least, on bass Erik Svendgard. Erik has played with JORN, Mickey Moody of Whitesnake, Kee Marcello of Europe, Torstein Flakne of Stage Dolls and a lot more.

On the recordings for this album you will listen to the bassplaying of Morten “Morty Black” Skaget (TNT), and drums by Morten Skogstad (Stage Dolls). Morty Black also played on their debut album, whereas Skogstad is in with Stargazer for the first time. A fun fact is that the only time this rhythm section has played together on record before this album, is on TNT’s classic album Intuition (1989).

To mix and master their new album Stargazer has joined forces with star producer and guitarist Søren Andersen (Glenn Hughes) at Medley Studios, Copenhagen. The result is a modern production with a vintage twist.

ARTILLERY Take A Trip Down Memory Lane In December

ARTILLERY Take A Trip Down Memory Lane In December

On December 6th, Denmark's thrash kings Artillery revisit the old days as they release two albums packed full of never officially released demo songs, complete with remastered sound (done in Medley Studios), rare pictures, exclusive interviews, liner notes, and revamped artwork courtesy of Roberto Toderico (Fleshcrawl, Paganizer, Pestilence).

The cover art for In The Trash and Deadly Relics is as pictured:

In The Trash is an album with a lot of great and funny memories from the early days of Artillery. It features the very first demo from the band - "We Are The Dead", from 1982 - as well as the unreleased 1986 demo "In The Thrash". Guitarist Michael Stützer remembers: "It was recorded for Neat at that time, so they could hear the new Artillery songs."

Deadly Relics, the compilation featuring Artillery's 1984 demos "Shellshock", "Deeds Of Darkness" and also the 1989 single "Khomaniac / Don't Believe", was originally released in 1998 on Mighty Music. It was the second release ever on the label. Now, 21 years later, the album will be re-released in a brand new version with beautiful packaging. "Deadly Relics shows a very young and very hungry Artillery! Enjoy," says guitarist Michael Stützer.

DREAM THEATER's Beer 'Barstool Warrior' To Be Available At Select Venues During Upcoming Tour

DREAM THEATER's new beer, created in a partnership with Barrier Brewing Company, will be available at select venues on the upcoming leg of the band's U.S. tour. The pilsner, Barstool Warrior, has been sold-out since it was first introduced this past summer. Recently, another 300 cases have been brewed and will be available in New York and New Jersey stores in the near future. Attendees of the concert in Albany at the Palace Theater on October 12 will be able to buy Barstool Warrior at the concert, another career first for the band. More venues on the current tour that will have the beer are expected to be announced at a later date.

Information on Barstool Warrior and Barrier Brewing Co. can be found at this location.

DREAM THEATER is back on the road in North America on the next leg of the acclaimed "The Distance Over Time Tour – Celebrating 20 Years of Scenes From A Memory". The first leg of tour gathered plenty of critical acclaim and fan praise due in large part to the diverse setlist the band created. The next leg of the tour kicks off on September 26 and runs through mid-November. The 27-date trek will see the band making stops in Louisville, Kentucky; Cleveland, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; Long Island, New York; and San Jose, California, to name a few.

SABATON History Channel Uploads "En Livstid i Krig" - The Thirty Years War; Video

SABATON History Channel Uploads "En Livstid i Krig" - The Thirty Years War; Video

The Sabaton History Channel has released Episode 034 - "En Livstid i Krig" - The Thirty Years War.

A message states: "The Swedish version of 'Lifetime Of War' is called 'En Livstid i Krig' and has a different perspective on the Thirty Years War than its English counterpart. The song is about the many men and women who were born during the Thirty Years War, lived through the war and most possibly also died in that war."

Sabaton have partnered up with Veteran Tickets Foundation, also known as Vet Tix, for select 2019 US dates of The Great Tour.

Vet Tix is the number one nonprofit working to provide free tickets to currently serving military and veterans of all eras, including immediate family of troops killed in action. Sabaton are honored to support US service members and vets by providing them with an avenue to create long-lasting memories through the live concert experience. A limited number of will call tickets are available at VetTix.org for select US dates this October - November.

To receive tickets, military personnel and veterans apply at VetTix.org and are verified by a third party. Members can then set their event interests and are notified when tickets to an event meeting their criteria are available. Members then request tickets and Vet Tix distributes tickets at times using a lottery.

Vet Tix is a national non-profit, founded in 2008, whose mission is to secure and distribute tickets to sporting events, concerts, performing arts, educational and family activities across the nation to military and veteran families. Their goal is to help reduce stress, make events affordable, minimize post-traumatic stress, strengthen family bonds and encourage VetTixers to re-engage with local communities and American life. To date, Vet Tix has given out over 7.8 million tickets in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

Sabaton's North American tour kicks off on October 4 at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Find the band's tour itinerary here.

AMON AMARTH Releases Historically Accurate Video For 'Shield Wall'

AMON AMARTH Releases Historically Accurate Video For 'Shield Wall'

Swedish death metallers AMON AMARTH have released a brand new music video for their stomping, anthemic call to arms "Shield Wall". The rabble-rousing clip chronicles the plight of an enemy ship come to invade a viking village. But, as Johan Hegg's gutteral growl chants "Vikings, Raise The Shield Wall, Hold the Front Line, Fight Till Death", the fate of the enemy becomes uncertain. Who will emerge victorious from battle? Watch the video to find out.

Directed by Phil Wallis and produced by Alexander Milas/Twin V Ltd — the same team behind AMON AMARTH's 2018 feature-length documentary "The Pursuit Of Vikings" — the aim of "Shield Wall" was to produce a historically accurate portrayal of the battlefield tactics that Vikings were known and also notorious for. Working closely with noted Viking scholar and battle re-enactor Igor Górewicz of the Triglav and Jomsborg vikings, the video was shot on location in Wolin, Poland — site of the world-renowned annual Festival Of Slavs And Vikings — and featured extras from the world's foremost Viking reenactment groups, including Triglav, Maximas von Bracey's Ulflag and Germany's Blóðvítnir, longtime friends of AMON AMARTH, whose longtime member Sana portrays the story's raiding party commander.

Hegg stated about the lyrical inspiration for "Shield Wall": "It's about the fighting technique that Vikings used in battle where they would form a wall with their shield to let the enemies beat themselves tired, basically, until they open up and cut them to pieces."

"Shield Wall" is taken from AMON AMARTH's latest album, "Berserker", which was released in May via Metal Blade Records. The disc was recorded at Sphere Studios in North Hollywood, California with producer Jay Ruston, who has previously worked with ANTHRAX, STEEL PANTHER, URIAH HEEP and STONE SOUR.

SOUNDGARDEN's Career Chronicled In New Book, 'Dark Black And Blue: The SOUNDGARDEN Story'

SOUNDGARDEN's Career Chronicled In New Book, 'Dark Black And Blue: The SOUNDGARDEN Story'

There have been countless books penned about the leading grunge bands — namely NIRVANA and PEARL JAM. Surprisingly, few have been assembled about the mighty SOUNDGARDEN. But this is about to change, with the arrival of "Dark Black And Blue: The Soundgarden Story".

Written by author/journalist (and longtime SOUNDGARDEN fan) Greg Prato, the book tells the Seattle band's complete story — beginning with its members' pre- SOUNDGARDEN days all the way to today. Also featured are all-new interviews for the book, including chats with Matt Pinfield, Philip Anselmo and Marky Ramone, among others, as well as rarely seen photos from throughout the band's history.

In addition to dissecting and analyzing all of their albums (including such classics as 1991's "Badmotorfinger", 1994's "Superunknown", 1996's "Down On The Upside", etc.), readers will learn about the stories behind many of their classic songs ("Black Hole Sun", "Jesus Christ Pose", "Outshined", "Hands All Over", "Flower", etc.), as well as recollections of tours (Lollapalooza, GUNS N' ROSES, Neil Young, FAITH NO MORE, BLIND MELON, NINE INCH NAILS, etc.), goings on behind the scenes, and singer Chris Cornell's surprising and tragic death in 2017.

The 453-page paperback book is priced at $19.99 and the Kindle digital version is $9.99. The book is also available as a Nook version for $9.99.

Additionally, an excerpt from the book can be found here.

Greg Prato is a writer and journalist from Long Island, New York, whose writing has appeared in such renowned publications as Rolling Stone, Classic Rock and Vintage Guitar. He is also the author of several popular books, including "Grunge Is Dead: The Oral History Of Seattle Rock Music", "A Devil On One Shoulder And An Angel On The Other: The Story Of Shannon Hoon And Blind Melon" and "Too High To Die: Meet The Meat Puppets". And you may even have heard him on one of his many radio or TV appearances, which have included interviews on "The Howard Stern Wrap-Up Show", "Eddie Trunk Live" and "The Ron & Fez Show".

STEVE VAI Posts Snippet Of "Animal Jam" From Stillness In Motion Blu-Ray

STEVE VAI Posts Snippet Of "Animal Jam" From Stillness In Motion Blu-Ray

Guitar legend Steve Vai has checked in with the following:

"A little snippet from the 'Animal Jam'. When I watch the first part of this, I realize how quirky my playing can be. I have very little idea why I play such stuff, it just comes out that way I guess, but it sure is fun to feel it running through me. Especially while wearing those threads, ha!  You can see the entire 3.5 hour tour documentary that this clip is from on disc 2 of the Blu-Ray release of Stillness In Motion that came out on September 13th!"

Vai released the Blu-Ray version of Stillness In Motion on September 13 via his personal record label Light Without Heat, distributed by The Orchard. He has posted an "unwrapping" video of the package, which can be viewed below.

Originally, a DVD capturing Vai’s performance at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on October 12, 2012 was issued by Sony but it was not available on the Blu-Ray format. This deluxe package will be available on 2-Blu-Ray discs, with two CDs that contain the live music release from the performance.

One of the Blu-Ray disks contain the bonus material titled The Space Between The Notes (Tour Mischief). It’s an intimate and at times hysterically edited video diary comprised of more than three and a half hours of footage filmed around the world on-stage, off-stage, and behind-the-scenes during the world tour. This specific concert captured was the 49th show of the aforementioned global excursion that consisted of 253 engagements in over 52 countries.

In reflecting on this period of his life, and his global travels circa Stillness In Motion, Steve Vai offers, “Making records, performing and touring live is what I love to do most in this life. This Blu-Ray performance and tour bonus footage was culled from the Story of Light tour in support of that CD release. The tour was comprehensive and perhaps my favorite tour as of yet. To be with that band and those fans traveling to all those exotic locations represents a period of my life where I feel I was peaking both on a performance level and pure tour exhilaration. The Space Between The Notes has over 3.5 hours of on-and-offstage ‘B-roll’ footage that has every stop along the way represented somehow. The compiling, editing and result of The Space Between The Notes is a career highlight for me. It’s interesting, funny, entertaining and informative. You get to see what touring the world with a rock band is really like in all its visceral and intimate expressions.”

THE WHO Cuts Houston Concert Short After ROGER DALTREY Loses His Voice (Video)

THE WHO Cuts Houston Concert Short After ROGER DALTREY Loses His Voice (Video)

THE WHO was forced to cut its concert in Houston, Texas short after Roger Daltrey lost his voice. The legendary rock band managed to get through only eight songs at Toyota Center Wednesday night (September 25) before the singer told the crowd, "I think I should quit while I'm ahead," and walked offstage. Daltrey reportedly was suffering from ragweed allergies, with guitarist Pete Townshend telling the audience:"I'm really, really sorry. Roger cannot actually speak now. Apparently, before the show he saw a doctor, and, you know, he's been singing so fucking great through this tour. I don't know what the fuck's going on. He has been on top of his game."

Townshend added that he and his bandmates wanted to press on, but "this is Roger's show, really — it's a vocal show — and he's not in good shape," and there was no point in playing without him.

Townshend promised to return when THE WHO was able to reschedule the concert, although he admitted that he didn't know when this could happen since Daltrey's vocal surgeon requires him to take a day off after each date.

It is not presently clear if THE WHO will make its next scheduled concert, which is slated to happen tomorrow night (Friday, September 27) at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

THE WHO will release its first new album in 13 years, titled "Who", on November 22. A new single, "Ball And Chain", is now available on all streaming services.

DREAM THEATER Vocalist Hopes To Release New Solo Album In 2020

DREAM THEATER Vocalist Hopes To Release New Solo Album In 2020

DREAM THEATER vocalist James LaBrie recently appeared on the "Hyde Archives" program on the St. Albans, West Virginia radio station Rock 105. The full conversation can be streamed below. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On the group's longevity:

James: "We've had a great ride, and we're still going strong. We've been fortunate enough to be doing this for as long as we have, and we're still going out there and totally giving it [all] every night. It's been amazing."

On the group's seminal 1999 concept album, "Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory":

James: "It was our first conceptual album. It was a natural progression for somebody who liked DREAM THEATER [for us] to want to put it out there as a conceptual piece. We were pretty psyched. We were very, very excited. We had been talking about it for some time, and finally, the opportunity presented itself. We'd come off 'Falling Into Infinity' and done that world tour and gone through some personnel changes at the label and management. We were going through some serious transformations and transitions as far as the people that are on the periphery. Going into the studio, we had gone through a lot emotionally, and I think was the gasoline on the fire for us to say to the label, 'You need to let us do this album. You need to leave us alone. We're going to go in the studio, and you're going to hear it when it's done.' Fortunately for us, they were all in agreement. Going in, we pretty much knew what where we wanted to go with it as far as the lyrical conception — reincarnation and all that — and musically, it was the first album that we did with [keyboardist] Jordan Rudess. We were pretty psyched with that, and what better man to have coming to that kind of a piece that is that kind of a musician. It was just a perfect fit. We could tell as we were in [the studio] writing and recording it that we were onto something that we thought was really going to resonate with our fans, and it still does today. Doing it live, it's pretty amazing to see the reaction to it. It's almost like a throwback right into that moment again 20 years ago."

On the group's 2016 double album, "The Astonishing":

James: "Let's be honest — it kind of divided our fans. They either loved it, or were trying to sink their teeth into it and not succeeding. We knew while we were out on the 'Astonishing' tour that we kind of said, 'You know what? We need to really get back to our roots. We need to create a more aggressive album. Just kind of let it happen. Spontaneity needs to be our friend.' I think the piece that really brought that together was deciding that we were going to go live together in this house, and the studio was only 300 feet away from the house. We shacked up and kept our focus on the music and were able to hang out with one another, so ultimately, the conversations led back to the music. I think it really fed and created the kind of album that 'Distance Over Time' became."

On writing lyrics:

James: "When we're writing the melodies, I'll hear a melody and all of a sudden, words will come into my head. With 'Out Of Reach', that's where it happened — I just started singing these words in my head and said, 'Whoa, hang on a second — I think I've got something for this. I'm going to take this lyric'... It's either something that comes to me immediately, or I just feel a connection to it."

On whether he plans to record another solo album:

James: "Matt [Guillory] and I just started speaking. We thought over a year and a half ago [that] we were going to start writing material for the follow-up to [2013's] 'Impermanent Resonance'. Matt's a very busy guy — he lives out in California [and] I'm up in Canada, and the schedules just didn't dictate us getting together and starting to put the material together. But we did speak a few weeks ago, so we're hoping that we can start to finally put some music together. Hopefully there will be something, maybe, I'm thinking late 2020."

DREAM THEATER continues to tour in support of its latest album, "Distance Over Time", which was released on February 22 via InsideOut. The record was produced by guitarist John Petrucci, mixed by Ben Grosse and mastered by Tom Baker.

During the tour, the group is celebrating the 20 th anniversary of "Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory" by performing the album in its entirety for the first times since 2000.

LaBrie's latest solo album, "Impermanent Resonance", was released in August 2013 via InsideOut Music. The follow-up to 2010's "Static Impulse", was once again conceived with LaBrie's songwriting partner for nearly two decades, Matt Guillory. Guillory not only took the leading role in composing the material, he also handled all of the keyboards and background vocals. The album's lineup was intact from the previous recording, featuring Marco Sfogli from Italy on guitar, Ray Riendeau (HALFORD, MACHINES OF LOVING GRACE) on bass and Swedish drummer Peter Wildoer (DARKANE, MAJESTIC), who was a finalist in the DREAM THEATER drum auditions. Additionally, former SOILWORK guitarist Peter Wichers came into the fold to contribute songwriting and studio guitars.

There are few things more powerful than an inspirational shared vision. For bassist/vocalist Will Wright and guitarist/vocalist Thomas Cope, friendship and creativity have collided in a shower of brilliant sparks with the arrival of From Insanity’s Ruin, the debut album from UK-based metal ingenues Past The Fall. A formidable display of modern metal braggadocio, refined classicism and subtly progressive flair, it is an album that has been a very long time in the making and which represents the long-awaited achievement of childhood dreams.

“Thomas and I have known each other since we were 12 years old, and we started playing music together when we were 15!” says Will. “We were doing okay in a project called Leaden and we’d racked up a fair bit of touring experience, but we all had a meltdown in our early twenties and it seemed like that was the end of it. But once we’d had a few months apart and all the bullshit cleared away and me and Thomas wanted to play together again, and we started the band now as Past The Fall. We always felt there was something special about the music we made together, and I love him like a brother so it felt like fate!”

Formed in 2011, Past The Fall hit the ground running, recording their first EP, Beggars At The Liars Banquet the following year and releasing it early in 2013. Mixed by Andy ‘Hippy’ Baldwin (Faith No More/Tesseract) and graced with artwork by the legendary Costin Chioreanu (Arch Enemy/Ghost), it was an audacious starting point but one firmly rooted in recognisable thrash and groove metal tropes.

Several years down the line, Past The Fall have been transformed by time, progress and maturity. Years of touring experience, including extensive jaunts around the UK, Europe, Mexico and North America have sharpened the band up immeasurably: sharing stages with everyone from cult thrashers Hirax to ex-Judas Priest singer Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens has clearly helped to push Will, Thomas and drummer Sam McLean to new levels of virtuosity and verve.

"From Insanity’s Ruin" is vastly more adventurous than the band’s early recordings, with both a distinctive and unprecedented blend of nails-hard musical elements and a newfound sense of subtlety and exploration setting the band apart from just about everything else.

“The record we are about to release is special because I would say it’s the culmination of all that work and experience but put into brand new songs,” says Will. “There’s no element on there that we’re not 100 percent happy with. It’s both a fresh start and a fantastic example of all our years of life experience. It feels like the record we had in our heads from day one but now we have the skills to make it.”

Produced by Will and Thomas themselves, "From Insanity’s Ruin" is full of smart ideas and thrilling dynamics, but it’s also a record full of great songs, powerful melodies and moments of tender melancholy. Above all, it’s an album full of passion, heart and humanity, whether cracking skulls via the brutal, explosive likes of Drainer and Poison Mirror or meandering through genteel, prog-tinged pastures on the multi-faceted Seldom Reason and the trippy and grandiose Maurice. Although still exhibiting plenty of thrash and groove metal ferocity, Past The Fall have evolved into something far more interesting, with inspired vocal harmonies and detours into quasi-grunge territory all adding texture and tension to this dark but weirdly uplifting tour-de-force.

“A number of life changing events accrued during the making of this record which fuelled its dark edge,” states Will. “Due to the time invested in the album, I would say it even started to reflect our personal lives and the changes we experienced, which probably makes the experience much more intimate. The songs encompass quite a lot of our experiences in that time, from deaths in the family, long term relationship break-ups, psychopath stalkers, depression and new beginnings, but somehow it has coalesced around a theme. The songs are very introspective and deal with mental health, strength through perseverance and rejecting normal ideals of what’s socially acceptable. But I also think there’s a strong current of hope and honour running through the album too, as well as a lot of excitement about finally having the sound to kick some ass!" [Laughs]

Custom designed to get heads banging and hearts pounding, the songs on From Insanity’s Ruin are destined to grow in stature and might when Past The Fall hit the road to take their magnum opus to the masses. With their passion for making music at an all-time high and a wildly idiosyncratic and compelling debut twitching in the starting blocks, these life-long metal brothers are in this for the long haul and ready for anything.

“Next year we want to tour for six months and hit the UK, Europe and North and South America again, and hopefully some more exotic places too,” Will concludes. “We’ve never played any large festivals so that would be the icing on the cake, if we could pack that in too! We’re big believers in the DIY ethic, so to get recognition for the new record and travel and still keep the keys to the kingdom would be the ultimate dream for us. We’ve been doing it the hard way for so long now we don’t mind the extra work!”

THE DARKNESS: 'Easter Is Cancelled' Artwork Banned By Certain Platforms For Its Religious Connotations

THE DARKNESS: 'Easter Is Cancelled' Artwork Banned By Certain Platforms For Its Religious Connotations

British rockers THE DARKNESS have released the title track of their forthcoming quasi-sci-fi concept album "Easter Is Cancelled", due out on October 4 via Cooking Vinyl.

"Easter Is Cancelled" gives a taste of what to expect from the band's most diverse album yet. The song features almighty guitar solos and riffs, delicate acoustic touches, highflying falsetto, barbarian chants and space-age electronics.

Due to the album's artwork being banned by certain platforms for its religious connotations, the band has released a video for "Easter Is Cancelled" featuring both the original and censored artworks.

Regarding the creation of the song, drummer Rufus "Tiger" Taylor says: "That was the last song we wrote for the album. We needed a fast one. So Dan and I were given that challenge. We had a day of jamming. It was one of those things where we just sat down and bang — the first thing we played became the first four bars of the finished song."

Frontman Justin Hawkins says: "Rufus and Dan came up with this AC/DC boogie thing, except with all these weird, progressive time changes. Lyrically, it's one of the multiverse ones. You can't be angry about a multiverse. It makes everything more manageable. You have to be comforted by the fact that there's a reality somewhere it isn't all shit. Conversely, when everything is going right, there's a universe where it isn't, and you should be grateful."

Justin spoke to Planet Rock about the concept for the cover artwork for "Easter Is Cancelled", which features what appears to be members of THE DARKNESS beating down Roman guards as Jesus — played by Justin — attempts to escape from the bonds of crucifixion.

He said: "I'm depicting Christ in the artwork. I'm not suggesting for a minute that I'm Jesus. And the concept is multiverse theory. So, presumably, if we're allowed to talk about multiverse theory, as science folk, which we are, the idea of multiverse theory is that every eventuality that is possible to imagine exists somewhere in an alternate reality — like Schrödinger's cat times infinity. So, the idea is what happens if on the day that the Christ was to be crucified, he just said, 'Well, I'm gonna use my supernatural, wine-turning, water-walking abilities to fight back.' And the crucifixion doesn't happen, the Romans don't stand a chance — one of them is beheaded — and Jesus and three of the Marys, we're saying what if there's a universe like that? Imagine everything goes wrong. Isn't it comforting to know that in a universe somewhere, everything has gone right? Don't you find that comforting?"

The new album "Easter Is Cancelled" is THE DARKNESS's most exciting yet, a mini-rock opera examining the role of the musician in the barbarous culture of the world today. At the heart of the tale is love, loss and heartbreak, where redemption is ultimately found in the brotherhood of band friendship and the power of the guitar.

The title track is the latest song to be released from "Easter Is Cancelled" and follows the emotive "Heart Explodes", this week added to the Radio 2 playlist, and the five-minute epic "Rock And Roll Deserves To Die".

"Easter Is Cancelled" will be released digitally and in full technicolour physical glory as a standard CD, digipak CD with bonus tracks, gatefold LP, limited-edition color vinyl gatefold LP, picture disc and cassette. The album is available to pre-order now from the band's official store with special signed copies and exclusive album bundle offers.

THE DARKNESS will play "Easter Is Cancelled" in full, alongside a set of its very greatest hits, on its upcoming headline tour. They will play 19 dates across the U.K. starting in November, and the shows promise to be incredibly special. The band will reflect the grand scope and vision of the album, alongside the finest hits from its spectacular canon.

Jeff Lynne’s ELO To Release From Out Of Nowhere Album In November; Title Track Streaming

Jeff Lynne’s ELO To Release From Out Of Nowhere Album In November; Title Track Streaming

Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer and music legend, Jeff Lynne, will follow up a remarkable run of sold out European and American tours with a new album, From Out Of Nowhere, on November 1 via Columbia Records. The album is now available for pre-order, and the title track “From Out Of Nowhere” is available to stream and download with album pre-order here, or via the YouTube clip below.

Lynne, whose music has touched fans deeply across three generations now, has found himself in recent years at the peak of his powers as a songwriter, musician and producer. The forthcoming album features a buoyant title song, opening the album which features ten songs, from the wistful “Help Yourself” to the celebratory “Down Came The Rain” to the churning rocker “One More Time” (featuring a solo from pianist Richard Tandy) to the sweet closer, “Songbird”.

As does its predecessor, 2015’s Alone in the Universe (the first new release from Lynne in 14 years), From Out Of Nowhere shows Lynne finding new facets to his signature sound, at once drawing on his globally loved legacy and forging new paths in both sounds and emotions. Once again, he plays nearly every note of the music on guitars, bass, piano, drums, keyboards and vibes, as well as singing all of the lead and layered harmony vocals. Steve Jay, who also engineered the album, adds some percussion.

The very existence of the album is an unexpected joy, as much for its creator as for his fans. “‘From Out Of Nowhere' - that’s exactly where it came from,” Lynne says. “That’s the first one I wrote for this album and it’s kind of like that.” It’s a song about hope and salvation. Lynne often found himself turning to a sense of optimism, which is a theme recurring throughout the album, saying “Everybody’s got to have a bit of hope.”

This album builds on the energy and acclaim generated by the release of Alone in the Universe and the triumphant return to touring for the first time since 1985, starting with a 2014 performance before more than 50,000 people in London’s Hyde Park. Since then he and the remarkable group he’s assembled have toured in Europe and North America, with shows including sold out dates at such esteemed locales as two nights at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, eight nights at the O2 Arena in London, a headlining slot at the 2016 Glastonbury Festival, a three-night fireworks spectacular at the Hollywood Bowl and a June 2017 spectacle for nearly 60,000 fans at Wembley Stadium. That latter was captured in the Wembley or Bust concert film. That was followed by a major U.S. arena tour in 2018 and a return for twenty North American shows this past summer.

Covering the Anaheim kick-off to the 2019 trek, Forbes’ Steve Baltin called the return to the stage “a very unexpected surprise for fans, one that should be savored and celebrated not just by ELO fans, but any music fan who wants the chance to experience what has, in a turn no one could have seen coming, become consistently one of the best live acts in the world.”

Additionally, 2017 also saw Lynne inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, with the touring band performing at the ceremony.

With more than 50 million albums sold, ELO ranks among the most popular acts of its era. Those totals cover four consecutive Top 10 albums and seven reaching the Top 20, as well as a remarkable string of hit singles - 20 reaching the US Top 40 and a full seven of them lodging in the Top 10. Lynne’s reach, of course, has extended far beyond ELO, touching millions as a producer and collaborator, most notably as a member of the Traveling Wilburys alongside George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. He also produced Harrison’s colorful Cloud Nine album and with Harrison, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr crafted full songs from John Lennon’s home tapes of “Free As A Bird” and “Real Love”.

NITA STRAUSS Is Working On Her Second Solo Album

NITA STRAUSS Is Working On Her Second Solo Album

Nita Strauss, the Los Angeles-based guitar shredder for the ALICE COOPER band, has revealed to Heavy1 TV that she has already begun working on the follow-up to her first solo album, "Controlled Chaos", which came out last year.

"I wrote the majority of 'Controlled Chaos' while I was on the previous Alice Cooper tour, so I'm falling right back into the pattern of writing my album on days off," she said (see video below). "I've got my Pro Tools rig out here, so I'm just writing and recording. And we'll do some more clinics, do some more solo touring, do some more touring with Alice, and then I'm hopeful for a second album release in late 2020."

Asked if she will do any singing on her upcoming LP, Nita said: "No. I want people to enjoy it. So I'm not gonna sing."

Earlier this year, Nita told the Long Island, New York radio station 94.3 The Shark that she didn't have any reservations about putting out an album of instrumentals with "Controlled Chaos".

"Everyone said that I had to put out some tracks with vocals — that was the vast consensus among the people in the industry," she recalled. "And I have to say I'm really glad that Josh [Villalta, Nita's longtime boyfriend and manager] and I stuck to our guns and I put out the album I wanted to make. Maybe I could have made more money if I would have made it more marketable, maybe I could have had more success and [gotten airplay] on bigger radio stations and what have you, but it wouldn't have been the album I wanted to make."

The 11-track "Controlled Chaos" was a challenge to Strauss and an opportunity for her to reconnect with what inspired her to start playing guitar when she was just 13 years old.

"I started playing guitar because of instrumental guitar music," she said. "All my real heroes made instrumental albums. All my own career has been spent playing in bands, but I never forgot that dream of what inspired me to pick up the guitar in the first place."

"Controlled Chaos" reached No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart and No. 6 on the Hard Rock Albums chart.

Nita's live show is mostly instrumental in nature, combining originals with covers.

Strauss has been playing with Alice Cooper since 2014 when she replaced Australian musician and former Michael Jackson player Orianthi. She joined Alice in time for a mammoth MÖTLEY CRÜE tour. She was recommended to Cooper by the legendary rocker's former bass player and WINGER frontman Kip Winger.

DESPISED ICON Discuss Writing Process For Upcoming Purgatory Album; Video Trailer

DESPISED ICON Discuss Writing Process For Upcoming Purgatory Album; Video Trailer

Canadian deathcore pioneers, Despised Icon, are back to reveal their sixth full length album, Purgatory, which will be released on November 15 via Nuclear Blast.

Today, Alex Erian discuses how the band went about writing Purgatory, and how it differs from Beast as well as from other bands. Watch the second trailer below.

Alex comments. "All in all, with this record, I feel like we acknowledged every era of the band a lot more. So, if you're more into The Ills of Modern Man or Day Of Mourning, we have lot of those elements on the new record. We always try to stay one step ahead of the pack so we introduced new ideas here and there."

Purgatory was produced by Yannick St-Amand, Eric Jarrin and Alex Erian. The music was recorded by Despised Icon's former guitar player, now current front of house engineer Yannick St-Amand while the vocals were recorded by close friend Antoine Lussier of Ion Dissonance. Mixing and mastering were completed by Cryptopsy's very own Christian Donaldson at The Grid in Montreal. For the album artwork, the band selected Eliran Kantor to create a piece that echoed the themes and concepts of Purgatory.

Without a doubt their most dynamic venture to date, Despised Icon have a fresh and energy filled arrangement just waiting to see the light of day in the form of Purgatory. For many years, they have laid the foundation of Deathcore and spearheaded different sounds and movements within the genre.

Purgatory will be available in the following formats:

NOVERIA Release "Broken" Music Video

NOVERIA Release "Broken" Music Video

Progressive power metal veterans, Noveria, have released a video for the song "Broken", the first single from their new album, Aequilibrium, out on October 25 via Scarlet Records. Watch the clip below.

Aequilibrium marks the third chapter of Noveria’s musical journey by further refining the band's signature sound into a massive cinematic experience. The lyrics will take you from the middle of a massive earthquake to the darkest corners of the human mind, all the way to discovering a brand new life after losing everything that mattered.

Virtuoso guitar solos, full throttle riffs and blasting drum grooves merge with beautiful melodic vocal lines and choruses, while the atmospheric keyboards and orchestrations give it an intense and powerful feel. Aequilibrium takes the progressive power metal standards to a whole new level and showcases the band's finest songwriting, top notch musicianship and overall metal mastery.

The cover art is based on an original oil painting by an Italian contemporary artist, and created by Brasilian graphic designer Vini. Aequilibrium was mixed and mastered by Simone Mularoni (DGM).
