Energetic, massive, focussed - that’s how Mob Rules appear on their new album. The success of their previous album Tales From Beyond was the impetus being used by the six rockers  to bundle their energies and produce this new and very straightforward album. With dense sound, straightforward songs and the familiar big melodies, Mob Rules go directly to the listener’s ears. Rough and fast-paced they move across the roots of metal, to haunting, modern compositions, which makes their sound more fresh and up-to-date than ever.

New band member Sönke Janssen also has a hand in this: Being the new second guitarist he expands and completes Mob Rules’ sound spectrum. LAMB OF GOD made its live debut with drummer Art Cruz (PRONG, WINDS OF PLAGUE) Thursday night (July 26) at Gilford, New Hampshire's Bank Of New Hampshire Pavilion. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.

Cruz is filling in for LAMB OF GOD's regular drummer, Chris Adler, who is sitting out the band's tour with SLAYER "due to unforeseen circumstances."

The North American trek, which also features ANTHRAX, TESTAMENT and NAPALM DEATH, is scheduled to run through August 26 in San Jose, California.

LAMB OF GOD said in a statement that Art was recruited for the gig "at the recommendation of Chris." The band added that it expects "to see Chris returning in the very near future."

In addition to LAMB OF GOD, Adler has played drums with a number of metal artists, including MEGADETH, NITRO, BLOTTED SCIENCE and PROTEST THE HERO.

LAMB OF GOD is touring in support of its covers album, "Legion: XX", which was released under the BURN THE PRIEST banner on May 18 via Nuclear Blast in Europe and Epic Records in the U.S.

Marilyn Manson has cited "the flu" as the reason he was unable to perform in Toronto, Ontario, Canada Thursday night (July 26). According to a message on the shock-rocker's official Twitter account, "Manson is recovering and is set to perform at all scheduled dates starting tomorrow at Heavy Montreal."

After Manson abruptly canceled his Toronto show, a fan-filmed video surfaced on Twitter showing the crowd's reaction to the announcement, which was a mixture of boos and yells in disgust. As the clip shows, Manson's stage backdrops were already hung in anticipation of the scheduled performance.

The show was part of the Marilyn's "Twins Of Evil: The Second Coming" tour with Rob Zombie, which kicked off earlier in the month.

Marilyn is on the road supporting his latest album, "Heaven Upside Down", which was released last October.

The singer injured his lower leg in a freak accident on stage during a concert last fall in New York City, resulting in the postponement of nine tour dates.

A short time later, longtime Manson bassist Twiggy Ramirez (real name Jeordie White) was fired from the group following allegations of sexual assault.

Manson returned to touring last November.

A 20-plus-minute documentary about the making of "Kult 45", the eighth full-length album from OTEP, the band led by singer, poet, illustrator, author and activist Otep Shamaya, can be seen below. The disc was released today (Friday, July 27) via Napalm Records.


Drawing influences from politically charged recording artists of the past but allowing her artwork to remain fully and undeniably OTEP, Shamaya continues her nearly two-decade invasion of the senses with "Kult 45".


Throughout the span of her career, Shamaya has been an undeniable force in bringing awareness via various acclaimed mediums to social and political injustices felt by various communities and subcultures. For years, publications such as Revolver magazine have lauded Shamaya for "following in the footsteps of outspoken musicians from folk singer Woody Guthrie to RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE's Zach de la Rocha, dubbing her "one of music's catalysts for social change". So, with the political climate as it is today, it's prime time for OTEP to make their voices heard in their primary medium — song.


"You can expect a complete and total mutiny of the senses on 'Kult 45'," says Shamaya. "That said, it's important for fans to know that this record is not just an indictment of Trump. The idea is rather to empower people to stand up and remind them this is our country and we have the power. It's primarily a rallying cry for people with common sense and good-natured patriots to rise up and know that we own this nation.


"Although the album is produced well technically, lyrically, it's very raw," she continues. "Musically, we explore different genres — we're trying to reach everyone. I don't want to be limited to one genre or to be anchored to a particular space where I can only reach certain political minds. It's important to me that I'm sending a clear and concise message to the Resistance — the people out there bending the barricades and fighting for justice is this country."


"Kult 45" was recorded at The Lair in Los Angeles, completely utilizing the same equipment used for OTEP's first album, "Sevas Tra" (down to Shamaya's vocal microphone, a SHURE Beta 58), in order to create a sound reminiscent of their roots. "Kult 45" was self-produced by the band, with assistant engineering from Larry Goetz, Nicolas Schilke and Lizzy Ostro.


Shamaya explains that "Kult 45" is the most authentic album OTEP has ever released, at least since their first record, and self-producing it helped achieve this result. "We had the freedom to be able to write, record and exist within the songs on 'Kult 45'," she says. "Things needed to be said and songs needed to be written that reflect the times. We weren't under anyone else's agenda, there was no pressure to create a 'single' or a song for radio, and the band was really able to shine."

OTEP does not hold back on "Kult 45", pointing out all sorts of political duplicities and leaving them in their wake. The band explodes on aggressive, adamant anthems like "Halt Right" and "Molotov", which act as timely outcries against the recent resurgence of hate groups. Tracks like the in-your-face "Cross Contamination" explore the hypocrisy of the evangelical right giving Trump a pass on his infidelities, and cherry-picking scriptures to fit their ideologies. "Invisible People" approaches immigration issues while pointing a strong finger at Trump, the electronically charged "Boss" aims to break, fight, and redefine gender roles, and "Trigger Warning" targets rape culture — specifically Stanford rapist Brock Turner — with a vengeance.


"Shelter In Place" investigates the topic of school shootings, specifically. "This song is extremely important to me because it was inspired by the bravery of those Parkland students who formed the March For Our Lives," says Shamaya. "The outro is, 'hey hey NRA, how many kids did you kill today?' because they've actively taken measures to make our kids less safe in school. They want to arm teachers, they want to put more guns in schools and on the street. The song itself isn't specifically anti-gun, but aimed at the hypocrisy of the NRA and certain belief systems that lose sight of what's truly important — the lives of our children."


The album pre-closes with a cover of "Wake Up" — an homage to political music icons, major "Kult 45" writing inspiration, and original track recording artists RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE — as well as a unique finisher, "The Tribe Speaks", featuring recorded voicemails from fans expressing how OTEP's music has changed their lives. "In the voicemails people say they feel empowered, that the music saved them," explains Shamaya. "They told us that they discovered their identities with our music. There was a girl who said that she considered committing suicide and that our music pulled her out of that. These were all based on last album, and I think that this album will have a similar impact on people. These are so moving — it's what keeps me fighting. Really."


"We want to empower people," ends Shamaya. "This album wasn't written to only wake people up, it's meant to carbonate people with the hope and confidence that they can make a difference."

"Livin' In Suspicion", the new video from the GRAHAM BONNET BAND, can be seen below. The song is taken from the group's latest album, "Meanwhile, Back In The Garage", which was released on July 13 via Frontiers Music Srl.

Graham recently told Jason Saulnier about "Meanwhile, Back In The Garage": "It's important to me that every album that comes out is possibly, if I can make it, better than the one before. That's what I aim for, but you're never perfect. There will always be times where you say, 'God, I wish I'd done that again,' with vocals and whatever else. I think this one's not bad. It's pretty good. I'm pleased with it."

Regarding the "Meanwhile, Back In The Garage" album title, Graham said: "It's sort of a joke in a way, because where I used to rehearse when I was a kid — you know, 14, 15 years old — was in the garage. When I was in a band when I was a teenager, everybody used to rehearse in the garage. They still do, I think, and so do we. That's what the title is all about. 'Meanwhile, Back In The Garage' is a return to the garage, because that's where I record at home."

WILSON's video for the song "Dumptruck" can be seen below. The clip, conceptualized by vocalist Chad Nicefield and brought to life by Ronny Tibbs and Anthony Maiuri, puts the wacky and unadulterated WILSON spin on classic racing games such as Rad Racer, F-Zero and Grand Prix II. Viewers are taken for a ride on the proverbial "dumptruck" as it deftly avoids obstacles like wet t-shirts, packs of lions, swords, and beer bottles. The truck enters a bonus "fuckery mode" when it runs over a tab of LSD as it races towards the castle to win the title of "Master Of Ceremony." The song itself is an infectious, rollicking jam showcasing WILSON's madcap sense of humor and as they so eloquently state in the song, "This shit bumps."

"Dumptruck" is taken from WILSON's new album of original material, "Tasty Nasty", which will be released on August 24 via RED Music. Produced by the band alongside Scott "The Ninja" Stevens, the disc is currently available for pre-order here.

WILSON formed in 2010 when the members came together in Detroit, Michigan. After two previous full-length releases — "Fullblast Fuckery" in 2013 and "Right To Rise" in 2015 — the band is back in 2018 with an all-new album, record label, outlook on its career and musical direction.

Progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER recently entered an undisclosed studio to begin work on material for the follow-up to 2016's "The Astonishing" album. An early 2019 release is expected.

A new one-minute video message from DREAM THEATER guitarist John Petrucci, filmed during the guitar-tracking sessions for the band's new disc, can be seen below.

DREAM THEATER vocalist James LaBrie stated about the new material, "There's a heaviness to it, there's an aggression to it," while Petrucci added: "So far the music is heavy, it's progressive, it's melodic, it's shredding, and it's also epic. So it has all those elements, which… they are the five pillars of DREAM THEATER, if you wanna call it that."

Petrucci hinted in a recent interview that DREAM THEATER's next album will be musically inspired by the "Images, Words & Beyond" tour, which saw the pioneering group celebrating the 25th anniversary of its milestone RIAA-gold-certified album "Images And Words".

DREAM THEATER's next studio album — its 14th — will be the band's first for Sony Music's progressive imprint InsideOut Music. The group spent the past 25 years recording under various labels in the Warner Music Group system, most recently Roadrunner Records, which released five albums by the band between 2007 and 2016.

One month after releasing the new track "Gotta Let Go", which has already racked up over three million global streams, with the accompanying music video getting over one million views, HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD has dropped a follow-up single, "Another Level", a fiery, EDM-infused song, saturated with heavy beats and explosive rhythms.

"'Another Level' is self-explanatory," says Johnny 3 Tears (vocals, bass). "It's about taking it as far as you think you can possibly go, and then taking it ten steps further."

HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD will close out this summer with festival performances at Impact Music, Heavy Montréal and Reading and Leeds.

Massachusetts metal veterans WITHIN THE RUINS have surprise-released a digital single today titled "World Undone" containing two songs featuring new singer Steve Tinnon. The two tracks, "World Undone" and "Resurgence", are available everywhere today. A stream of "World Undone" is available below.

"These songs were both written over the course of a big transition period for this band," says guitarist Joe Cocchi. "They have a unique vibe. Nonetheless, we're more than thrilled to have Steve step up and take over on vocals. It couldn't be a better fit for us. We've known Steve for years through touring and it feels right to have his voice, personality, and creativity as a part of our bands future now."

Tinnon comments: "I wrote these songs as a pair. I wanted them to go together. 'World Undone' is about feeling like you've lost everything and your world has come crumbling down. You've been mentally and physically defeated, and no one around you even cares. Everyone goes through dark times where they just feel lost and don't know what to do. 'Resurgence' is the follow-up to that scenario. It's about making your way out of those difficult situations and coming out on the other side as a stronger person than before.

"Life can be a constant struggle, and I think that's very relatable to a lot of people. But I want these songs to serve as a reminder that no matter how bad things seem, you need to keep pushing and keep fighting. Things can get better. Don't give up."

WITHIN THE RUINS recently announced a new batch of headline dates kicking off in Providence, Rhode Island on August 2 and bring the band to various points on the East Coast before wrapping up in Amityville, Long Island on August 12. Support will come from PHINEHAS, GREAT AMERICAN GHOST and SENTINELS (August 2-5). These dates will be WITHIN THE RUINS' first with Tinnon, who replaced original singer Tim Goergen just a few months ago.

Swedish melodic hard rock band DYNAZTY, which features in its ranks current AMARANTHE singer Nils Molin, will release its sixth album, "Firesign", on September 28 via AFM Records.

DYNAZTY was founded in 2007 and reached its current formation a year later with the addition of Molin. To date the band has released five albums, toured internationally, zigzagged Sweden and performed in the insanely popular Swedish Eurovision song contest qualification, Melodifestivalen event.


DYNAZTY garnered international praise and scored notable domestic chart positions with its more traditionally hard-rocking "Knock You Down" album (2011) and its successor "Sultans Of Sin" (2012). Criminally overlooked "Renatus" (2013), saw the band shedding its old-school melodic hard rock skin for a sound more modern, more defined and more addictive. Fittingly for its Latin name ("Rebirth"), "Renatus" saw the band's sound grow tighter with an arsenal of rapid rhythm patterns and machine-gun riffs, Molin's ever-present soaring vocals plus huge choruses that stuck in your head like horseflies and featuring melodic hooklines lesser bands would die for to have written. Sugar-pasted with massive arrangements, "Renatus" was an album the like of which most bands never manage to write. Yet somehow it managed to fly under the radar.


2016's "Titanic Mass" saw the Swedes present the next logical step in the never-ending flux that is the sound of DYNAZTY. This time choosing to maintain the overall bite and tightness of "Renatus" and taking a courteous nod in the direction of power metal finally, and adding a symphonic element, the band succeeded in making the songs, if possible, yet another notch more addictive than before.

Molin officially joined AMARANTHE in July 2017 as the replacement for Jake E.

Having previously used Chris Adam Hedman Sörbye from the band SMASH INTO PIECES as a stand-in for Jake on some of the shows in 2016 and in early 2017, AMARANTHE recruited Molin for three Swedish concerts in March 2017 and he has been part of the group's live appearances ever since.

According to Quartz, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said on his company's earnings call today METALLICA looks at what audiences are listening to on the music-streaming service in the city it's playing in, and changes the setlist to include some of the most popular songs in that area.

"You have an artist like METALLICA, who changes their setlist on a city-by-city basis just by looking at Spotify data to see, which the most popular songs happened to be in that city," Ek said. "We've never before been at a place in time where you could make as many informed decisions and understand your audience as well as we can do now as an artist."

In a 2017 interview with the 98 Rock radio station, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich spoke about how he creates setlists for the band's shows. He explained: "I'll sit and look at last couple times we played [in the area] — whatever city we're in, I'll look at the last 10 years worth of shows from that particular city. Obviously, there's certain songs we 'have' to play, but then there's the deeper cuts — and the deeper cuts I always try to vary. So if we played 'Harvester Of Sorrow' the last time, maybe I'll put 'Through The Never' or 'Breadfan' or whatever. I try to vary six or eight of the deeper songs so you give fans a different setlist and a different experience. Since I started doing that, it correlates with when we started taping all our shows and we offer them for sale on something called LiveMetallica.com, mixed by the same team that mixes our albums. Since we started doing that in '03 or '04, we haven't played the same setlist twice."

Ulrich added that METALLICA chooses to vary up its setlists "not just for the fans, but it's also for us — it keeps us on our toes." He said: "[Back in the day], we were out doing the same setlist for weeks at a time, and I was telling the lighting director, 'I'm gonna change a couple songs in the setlist tonight.' And I remember he said, 'Give me a 3-day notice so I can program the lighting rig.' It was one of those moments where I was, like, 'Wait a minute! That's what it's come to? If we want to play a different song in the setlist, we have to give the lighting guy a three-days notice so he can change the green lights to purple lights? That's not rock 'n' roll.' If I want to play 'Sanitarium', I don't want to have to hire an electrician. [Laughs] It was one of those moments: 'Holy fuck, I don't want to be that kind of band.'"

Ulrich, who was the main spokesperson for METALLICA in the Napster battle, has since become friends with Napster co-founder and current Spotify investor Sean Parker and even attended Parker's wedding.

In a 2015 interview with Billboard, Lars said: "We've been in a relationship with Daniel Ek and Spotify for a few years, which has been very rewarding. He's a smart guy and getting our music out, we try to align ourselves with the people who are smartest. You can tell a lot about the companies by the people who run them. With Daniel, he's very passionate about music so you feel safe with him."

METALLICA is currently home on a three-month break before launching a North American arena tour on September 2 in Madison, Wisconsin.

The official lyric video for "The Rhythm Of Freedom", a new song from MAYAN — the band featuring EPICA guitarist/songwriter Mark Jansen alongside Jack Driessen (ex-AFTER FOREVER) and Frank Schiphorst — can be streamed below. Jansen states: "'The Rhythm Of Freedom' references the sensation of pure freedom you feel when riding your bike or bicycle. Through his musical contributions in EPICA, AFTER FOREVER and MAYAN, Jansen has introduced another piece of knowledge, spirituality and mystery into the Dutch metal scene. For the third time since their inception in 2010, the now 10-piece symphonic death metal band has joined forces for a new album, and "Dhyana" is set to lift them to an entirely new level.

The collective that is MAYAN has always had a profound love for movie scores, so it comes as no surprise that the next step in the band's career was to record a new album with a live symphonic orchestra. Turning their vision into reality, a crowdfunding campaign was started early 2018 to fund the recording of MAYAN's third album with a live orchestra. With the tremendous support of fans across the world, more than €40,000 was raised and the band could finally approach the City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra to record their new album with them. Being one of the world's most renowned symphonic orchestras and famous for their work in cinematic features such as the "Star Wars" saga, "Hannibal" (2001) and "Arrival" (2016), as well as the orchestral parts of DIMMU BORGIR's "Death Cult Armageddon", they were the perfect choice to join forces with MAYAN to create the monumental sound landscape for "Dhyana". The crowdfunding campaign packages also included an exclusive EP called "Undercurrent".

Jansen stated: "We have worked with all our energy, efforts and passion to create a remarkable album. 'Dhyana' (which means the moment when the mind gets absorbed by the heart) makes us all very proud and we can't wait for it to be released. With the support of our loyal fans worldwide we were able to record the album with the City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Because of this and also producer Joost van den Broek's know-how and enormous motivational drive we were able to meet the high standards of the best productions of today. It's needless to say that we are extremely excited!"

The concept of this third full-length release reflects on conceptual themes such as being self-aware of our thoughts and relinquishing our egos and self-conceited tendencies to finding out who we truly are.

MAYAN will celebrate their new offering with a "Dhyana" release party on September 22 at De Helling in Utrecht, Netherlands. They will be supported by ELYOSE and CARTHAGODS on this evening.

"Vale Of Tears", a new song from Polish rock masters RIVERSIDE, can be streamed below. The track is taken from the band's seventh studio album, "Wasteland", which will be released on September 28 via longtime label InsideOut Music. RIVERSIDE's Mariusz Duda checked in with the following comment about the album's overall concept: "I'd been thinking about exploring 'post-apocalyptic' regions for a long time. I read books, watched films, played video games, all connected by stories about an attempt to survive in a world that had just ended. But writing such a story myself didn't make much sense until now.

"RIVERSIDE are starting a new chapter and after our recent experiences, a story like that has gained more meaning. 'Wasteland' is mostly about what's happening in the world these days but it also makes a reference to the tragedy that befell the band in 2016. Musically, we've returned to darker sounds but we have also turned a new page and recorded the album in a different style. It's still RIVERSIDE, but expressed in a much deeper and more mature way.

"Most artists say the same thing while promoting their new releases: that they have just created their best work to date. I won't say that because everything we have done so far has been consistently very good and unique. But I will say that we have never had such an incredible emotional load on any of our previous releases, and it's not likely that we will ever make such a charged album again. 'Wasteland' is an epic, multidimensional, poetic and very deep album. Perhaps of the once-in-a-lifetime kind.”


RIVERSIDE's "Wasteland" marks the first studio album effort with newly composed music after the tragic passing of founding member and guitarist Piotr Grudziński on February 21, 2016.

RIVERSIDE will embark on the "Wasteland 2018 Tour" throughout October/November to support the release of the upcoming album.

Maryland rockers CLUTCH have released the official music video for "Hot Bottom Feeder", the third single from their upcoming album, "Book Of Bad Decisions". The clip, which shows frontman Neil Fallon whipping up a batch of tasty crab cakes for his bandmates, can be seen below.

"Book Of Bad Decisions", will be released on September 7 via the group's own Weathermaker Music label. The disc was completed at Sputnik Sound studio in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Vance Powell. The album cover was designed by renowned photographer Dan Winters.

Fallon previously explained that the "Book Of Bad Decisions" title came "from a song on the album, which, to me, it's a pretty dark song. I was trying to write lyrics that were kind of like a Cormac McCarthy novel in about three and a half minutes," he said. "But anyone in their life does bad decisions, and you can look back and see the repercussions of that spread out like a pebble thrown into a pool. We've made bad decisions; we've also made really good ones. Thankfully, all of us are surrounded by good people that ride our wheelhouse when we get a little tipsy."

Speaking to "The Liquid Conversations" host Shawn SixX, Fallon stated about working with Powell: "He comes from the live background; he's a touring engineer, front-of-house… he's one of us. And so he came out on the road with us for three or four days, and his philosophy was just to put microphones in front of the cabinets, record the band all together in one room. It's a very simple thing that's kind of gotten lost in translation. And the album, listening to it now, I know it's gonna be a really honest and accurate portrayal of how [the songs] are gonna sound on stage."

Asked how "Book Of Bad Decisions" compares to 2015's "Psychic Warfare", Fallon said: "I think it's more stripped down in some regards. There's more of a wider range of tempos. There's more songs; there's 15 of 'em on there. At this point, I was so close to it for so long, I kind of can't see the forest for the trees; I have to take a step back to understand what this record is, if that makes any sense."

CLUTCH has announced a fall 2018 "Book Of Bad Decisions Tour" with support from SEVENDUST and TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN.

Wargaming — the company behind free-to-play titles World Of Tanks (2010), World Of Warplanes (2013) and World Of Warships (2015) — recently announced that IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson is hosting 10 online educational warplanes diaries. This free-to-view series is being released weekly on the World Of Warplanes official portal and YouTube channel across June, July and August, alongside an exclusive World Of Warplanes video tribute to the classic IRON MAIDEN song "Aces High".

As an avid enthusiast of military aviation, pilot, and supporter of World Of Warplanes' dedication to historical accuracy, Bruce has recorded "The Bruce Dickinson Warplanes Diaries" about the classic WW2 fighter and bomber aircraft such as the Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane and Messerschmitt Bf 109. As an extra treat for MAIDEN and Warplanes fans, World Of Warplanes have created, with many of the graphics from their in-game engine and some classic archive footage, a tribute video clip to the epic "Aces High" music video. Ian Gillan has reunited with his pre-DEEP PURPLE band THE JAVELINS to record the group's debut album. "Ian Gillan And The Javelins" will be released August 31 as a CD digipak, a vinyl LP and a digital download. The 16-track collection features covers of American blues, rock 'n' roll, soul and country tunes, including renditions of rock classics like THE CONTOURS' "Do You Love Me", Roy Orbison's "Dream Baby (How Long Must I Dream)" , Chuck Berry's "Memphis, Tennessee" and "Rock And Roll Music", Jerry Lee Lewis's "High School Confidential", Buddy Holly's "It's So Easy", Howlin' Wolf's "Smokestack Lightnin'" and Ray Charles's "What I'd Say".

Every DEEP PURPLE true lover knows how much their magic and powerful style is the result of many different influences brought in by the single members, all merging into the powerful sound loved by millions of rock fans. Ian Gillan's love for American soul and R&B as well as skiffle and early rock and roll has been well documented in many articles and interviews.

Founded in the early 60s, THE JAVELINS were influenced by pop, soul, country, jazz and blues artists from America. They soaked up the music of their heroes, added their own stamp and went from town to town to perform their favourite songs in front of a small but ever growing audience — becoming local heroes themselves.

This was the time when Ian Gillan discovered himself, broke the chains and "found his voice."


THE JAVELINS paved the way for the Ian Gillan who, only a few years later, wrote music history with DEEP PURPLE, becoming one of the most iconic frontmen of all time and, together with very few others, shaped rock music the way we know it today.

"These contemporary recordings (2018) by THE JAVELINS are drawn from our set lists, circa 1963, when I was 18 years old. Now, a few years later, I have the privilege and joy of working with my old mates from the original group; Gordon Fairminer (lead guitar); Tony Tacon (rhythm guitar); Tony Whitfield (bass guitar); Keith Roach (drums), as we make a long-overdue LP."

Ian Gillan has defined this new studio album as "a collection of catchy rhythms and feel-good melodies". This understating definition shows Gillan's ability to still look at those songs and his whole career with the same eyes of the 18-year-old boy who sang them many years ago.

But there is a lot more to this recordings…

By paying tribute to music legends such as Chuck Berry, THE DRIFTERS, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, Buddy Holly and Bo Diddley, IAN GILLAN & THE JAVELINS have not only managed to do that.

Avoiding the use of any modern technology, the band has managed to find the spontaneity and true sense of freedom of pop and rock and roll music of 50 years ago, probably without completely realizing it themselves.

One world superstar and four friends who have taken very different directions in life (none decided to "turn pro" as they would say it) but still able to capture the essence of what being a performing band is about.

This album is what happened during four days of recordings in a studio in Hamburg, Germany, where instruments, microphones, lyrics sheets and memories were the only tools allowed.

This album is not an act of nostalgia, or a celebration of the purity of the old days versus modernity. This is simply what the Javelins were in 1963… and this is what they are now, if they happen to meet in the studio, embracing their guitars and look at each other with a big smile on their face.

This is where it all started.

"Ian Gillan & The Javelins" has been recorded at the Chameleon Studios during a five-day recording session in Hamburg, March 2018, Germany. It features Don Airey (DEEP PURPLE) as special guest on piano. It will be released on August 31 on earMUSIC as CD digipak, 1LP gatefold (180g, black) and digital.

Gillan told Kaaos TV about THE JAVELINS: "The guys in the band, most of them tickled along at the occasional gig and they practiced, but most of them haven't really played in any progressive way for 50 years or more — 55, 56 years now.

"I prepared all the material with Steve Morris, my old partner from Liverpool — not Steve Morse; Steve Morris. And we sent the tapes, 16 songs, to each of the guys, and said, 'Okay, practice like crazy for six weeks.' And so we all met in the studio in Hamburg and we recorded 10 songs on the first day. And the whole 16 were recorded in two days, and then the solos and extra bits and pieces, a few mistakes, were repaired on a Wednesday, and then we did a video, and that was it. It was unbelievable."

He continued: "I was listening to the rough mixes, before we put on the vocal backings, the girls, and the brass section, because a lot of those old songs, like THE COASTERS and Ray Charles, had brass sections on them, so we're doing it authentically, augmenting the band. But, you know, because they hadn't played professionally for 50 years, they didn't evolve at all — they kept playing in the style which was in 1962, and consequently, when I'm listening to it, I think, 'My God! This is so authentic. It sounds just exactly as it did in those days.' It's not musicians from today trying to do a retro version of those songs, which I've heard plenty of, and they're always high production — there's no breathing space; no nothing. It sounds, to me, just as I remember it.

"Of course, we're all in our 70s, and we're like a bunch of school boys in the studio," he added. "We had a reunion a couple of years ago — at Christmas, we all went on a boat up the river Thames and had a fantastic night. And it was great — the old banter was still there, the jokes and the sense of humor. And it was wonderful — just truly wonderful. A great experience for these guys who have not been in a studio like that before. We did try another project a few years ago and made another set. So I think there were some nerves and some apprehension prior to the session, but by God, they went through it great. After every day's work, we sat down, we had a meal and drank some beers together and just talked about things. It was great. It was certainly a fantastic experience."

METAL ALLEGIANCE — with its four core members: David Ellefson (MEGADETH), Alex Skolnick (TESTAMENT), Mike Portnoy (THE WINERY DOGS, ex-DREAM THEATER) and Mark Menghi — began as a celebration of heavy metal, powered by the almost tribal bond shared between the extreme music community's most revered trailblazers, armed with a list of contributors onstage (and off) that read like a Wikipedia entry on the genre itself.

The band will release its sophomore album, "Volume II - Power Drunk Majesty", on September 7 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The thrash-worshiping disc merges old-school legends with the modern metallers of the scene to produce groove-driven, adrenaline-soaked anthems while tackling the frustrating state of the world.

Today, the band releases its second single, "Voodoo Of The Godsend", featuring Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, SEPULTURA, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY). Watch the music video below.

Menghi comments: "'Voodoo' turned out to be a tribal crusher ala some other influential tribal metal band that we all know and love whom once featured Max.

Skolnick comments: "One of the most distinct tracks on our new album (and indeed, in the entire METAL ALLEGIANCE catalogue), 'Voodoo' has a hypnotic feel with indigenous percussion, bringing to mind a ritual in the rainforest.

German metal queen Doro Pesch has released the official music video for the new single "If I Can't Have You - Nobody Will". The track is a duet that combines passion and melody with brutal harshness. Passion is provided by the blonde rock goddess herself — while the harshness comes from none other than AMON AMARTH singer Johan Hegg.

Doro says: "The work with Johan, who also contributed to the lyrics, was stunning. We got to know each other during the recording of the AMON AMARTH album 'Jomsviking' and it is wonderful that this great collaboration could be continued on my album."

She continues: "The video for the song perfectly reflects this obsessive song. We filmed in various ruins with our great director David Havlena. It has become very special, almost like a little movie.

"I cannot wait to introduce the song on August 3rd at Wacken Open Air where the song will celebrate its live premiere with special guest Johan Hegg!"

"If I Can't Have You - Nobody Will" is taken from Doro's new album, "Forever Warriors, Forever United", which will be released on August 17 via Nuclear Blast.

"We've been touring a lot during the last years. We collected a lot of impressions and got to meet many amazing people. That inspired me enormously," explains Doro. "The songs and ideas simply bubble out of me. That process didn't even end while being in the studio. We had 50 song ideas in the beginning which turned into 14 concrete album tracks. Suddenly we had 20 songs, and, in the end, it was even 24. I also wanted to record 'Caruso' in the last recording week."

With "Forever Warriors, Forever United", Doro presents two new records, featuring 19 regular tracks and six bonus songs.

This unique songwriting marathon was based on "Living Life To The Fullest" back in January 2016. Says Doro: "I was flying to Lemmy's funeral when the track's melody and lyrics suddenly came to mind. Lemmy was always very important to me. Everything went quickly from this point. As soon as a song was constructed, I headed to the studio — between all those shows and tours — to capture the freshness and live energy of the new tracks."

The album cover artwork was once again created by Doro's favorite artist, Geoffrey Gillespie. It portrays Doro in the middle of a swarm of wild metal heads exuding attitude, power and positive vibes.

"The cover and the title form a perfect unit," Doro explains, "Just as it should be. It all fits perfectly in line with the songs, which also deal with some political themes."

The long-awaited follow-up to 2012's "Raise Your Fist" will be the German singer's first release since 2016's "Love's Gone To Hell" single.

Last year, Pesch celebrated the 30th anniversary of WARLOCK's "Triumph And Agony" album by performing the LP in its entirety at select shows around the globe.

Doro was joined on the "Triumph And Agony" 30th-anniversary tour by Bolan alongside bassist Nick Douglas, drummer Johnny Dee, guitarist Bas Maas and guitarist/keyboardist Luca Princiotta.

Polish black / death metal overlords Behemoth recently stirred their fans into a frenzy by issuing a brand new image, created by artist Sylwia Makris, of frontman Nergal crucified on the cross. The picture, which can be seen below, is titled "GOD=DOG". Could this be the new album title? Perhaps the name of the next single / video? Time wil tell.

This October/November, Polish black/death overlords Behemoth will hit the road across North America to headline the Ecclesia Diabolica America 2018 e.v. tour. Featuring special guests At the Gates and Wolves in the Throne Room, this is one show not to be missed.

SINSAENUM, the extreme death metal project featuring DRAGONFORCE bassist Frédéric Leclercq and former SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison, has released the official music video for the song "Nuit Noire" (French for "black night"). The track is taken from the band's forthcoming album, "Repulsion For Humanity", due out August 10 via earMUSIC.

With the help of Francis Caste on mixing duties, SINSAENUM sharpened their own sonic identity, far from the typical death or modern metal sound.


The cover artwork, created by none other than Travis Smith, matches the radical, violent and angry approach of the album.


This autumn, SINSAENUM will be touring Europe for the first time since its formation. U.S. tour plans remain to be determined.


Last November, SINSAENUM released the EP "Ashes", with Metal Hammer Germany declaring it to be a "rad sign of life" and Metal Hammer U.K. taking it one step further, saying, "Take that form into the studio for the second full-length and we could have a classic on our hands."

GRETA VAN FLEET's first full-length album is tentatively due later this year. "We're reshaping it and then get into mastering and hopefully release it soon. It's looking like late summer," lead singer Josh Kiszka recently told MLive.

The band played in Michigan clubs for six years before rocketing to the top of the rock radio charts last year with "Highway Tune". The track is taken from the "Black Smoke Rising" EP.

GRETA VAN FLEET drummer Danny Wagner recently told Musik Universe that his band doesn't mind being regularly compared to LED ZEPPELIN by fans and music critics alike. "We get it a lot, but you know what? In the end, it's such a high honor — it really is," he said. "Being compared to anyone of a generation that's nowhere of any relevance to yours is humbling alone, and the fact that these guys, to us, are prodigies — these guys are the real deal. These are the ones that we've never gotten to live to see, because we're so young. And the fact that we're being compared to them and it's garnering so much attention, it's honestly just a high honor to us at this point. We take it very humbly."

Asked if he thinks the ZEPPELIN comparisons will help GRETA VAN FLEET in the long run, Wagner said: "I hope so. But as every band goes, we've been working on our debut album, and we're really starting to hone in on a sound that has been developing over the last couple of years, and we're really trying to form this GRETA VAN FLEET kind of universe as we're doing so."

Last month, GRETA VAN FLEET guitarist Jake Kiszka told FaceCulture that LED ZEPPELIN was not a major influence on the group despite close similarities between the two bands' styles. He explained: "I think that we've become more conscious of it, because I don't think before we ever really realized, in a lot of senses, the similarities or the commonalities that we share with that group."

He added: "I think it's one of the greatest compliments that could ever be given to a young band like ourselves. They're arguably one of the greatest rock bands of all time, so that is humbling and inspiring and honorable, in that sense… Even if it exactly wasn't an overwhelming influence of ours, it still was influential and we can certainly see it. But overall, it doesn't really affect the writing of our music."

LIGHT THE TORCH (formerly DEVIL YOU KNOW), the band fronted by former KILLSWITCH ENGAGE singer Howard Jones, played its first show ever on July 9 at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn, New York. Video footage of "The Bitter End" performance from the gig can be seen below.


LIGHT THE TORCH will serve as the opening act on the upcoming TRIVIUM and AVATAR North American tour, which runs from October 3 through November 3.


LIGHT THE TORCH members are eager to return to the touring circuit. "We are excited and ready return to the road," Jones said. "We can't think of a better way to support our new album, 'Revival', than with TRIVIUM and AVATAR in the fall. Come join us for good times and singalongs."

DEVIL YOU KNOW's name change was prompted by a dispute with the band's former drummer, John Sankey, who left the group in June 2016.

DEVIL YOU KNOW released two albums through Nuclear Blast Entertainment: 2014's "The Beauty Of Destruction" and 2015's "They Bleed Red".

In addition to playing songs from its debut, LIGHT THE TORCH is performing DEVIL YOU KNOW songs at its live shows.

Rob Zombie performed an extended set Thursday night (July 26) at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto, Ontario, Canada after touring mate Marilyn Manson was forced to cancel his appearance "due to an unforeseen illness."

Zombie's set included a cover of "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)", a song originally written and performed by EURYTHMICS, and reinterpreted by Manson in 1995 on the "Smells Like Children" EP.

Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson kicked off their "Twins Of Evil: The Second Coming" tour on July 11 at Detroit's DTE Energy Music Theatre.

Rob, who is also a successful filmmaker, has just signed a worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast Records. The follow-up to his 2016 studio album, "The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser", and 2018's "Astro-Creep: 2000 Live" is due in 2019.

Zombie's next movie, "3 From Hell", was shot in California a few months ago and is tentatively due in early 2019.

Marilyn Manson has canceled his performance Thursday night (July 26). at Budweiser Stage Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The show was part of the shock rocker's "Twins Of Evil: The Second Coming" tour with Rob Zombie, which kicked off earlier in the month.

The cancelation was confirmed in a message on Manson's official Twitter account. It read: "Due to unforeseen illness, Marilyn Manson will not be performing tonight in Toronto, ON.

"If you were in attendance specifically to see Marilyn Manson, your tickets will be available for refund at point of purchase.

"Rob Zombie will perform as scheduled."

Marilyn is on the road supporting his latest album, "Heaven Upside Down", which was released last October.

The singer injured his lower leg in a freak accident on stage during a concert last fall in New York City, resulting in the postponement of nine tour dates.

A short time later, longtime Manson bassist Twiggy Ramirez (real name Jeordie White) was fired from the group following allegations of sexual assault.

Manson returned to touring last November.

French metal veterans VULCAIN have released the title track of their forthcoming album, "Vinyle", due on September 28 via Season Of Mist.


VULCAIN comments: "We were born in the age of vinyl, and luckily the format is still here after almost losing it forever. By choosing 'Vinyle' as the title for the album and this title track, we want to pay tribute to the format that made us headbang, feel alive and dream. VULCAIN is one of the longest-running and most revered names on the French heavy metal and hard rock scene. The band was formed in 1981 by vocalist and guitar player Daniel Puzio and his brother Vincent Puzio (bass). The first demo, "Privat", was released in 1982 and was quickly followed by debut album "Rock 'N' Roll Secours" in 1984. Drummer Marc Varez joined the group shortly after, and from that moment on, they were quite rightly dubbed the "French MOTÖRHEAD" — a nickname that still applies to this day, even though VULCAIN's music encompasses many more influences.


After several lineup changes, VULCAIN continued its journey as a trio and released multiple full-lengths, EPs, and live albums. "Stoppe La Machine" (1998) marked VULCAIN's last release for more than a decade, as the band called it quits right after its release.


At the end of 2009, the band felt their hard rock roots still itching inside, and the power trio got back together. After touring the globe, performing at several European festivals like Hellfest, Headbangers Open Air and even supporting MOTÖRHEAD on a number of shows back in 2010, VULCAIN entered the studio once again. In 2013, by popular demand and some 15 years after the band's previous studio release, new album "V8" hit the stores.


After 30 years of rock n' roll and 13 albums so far, VULCAIN is feeling more energetic than ever.
