Video: SACRED REICH Performs In Eindhoven

Video: SACRED REICH Performs In Eindhoven

Fan-filmed video footage of SACRED REICH's August 8 performance at Dynamo in Eindhoven, Netherlands can be seen below,

Formed in 1986, SACRED REICH is part of the second wave of thrash, along with TESTAMENT, DEATH ANGEL, DESTRUCTION and DARK ANGEL. Over the years, SACRED REICH has produced a catalog of politically charged aggressive songs that have stood the test of time.

SACRED REICH's last studio album, "Heal", came out in 1996. The band broke up in 2000 and remained inactive until 2006 when they received offers to play European festivals.

Since coming out of retirement more than a decade ago, SACRED REICH has almost exclusively played the European festival circuit every summer. But that will change this year as SACRED REICH is celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of its classic album "Ignorance". To commemorate this milestone, the band is bringing its "30 Years Of Ignorance" tour around the world, which kicks off in Europe on July 26. Following the European run, the trek will make its way to the USA in September, featuring BYZANTINE as support.

During an appearance on a recent episode of "The Official Danko Jones Podcast", SACRED REICH bassist/vocalist Phil Rind confirmed that the band has reconsidered its previous stance on recording new material.

"We're not opposed to maybe doing some new stuff, which is, for us, kind of a change of plan," Rind said. "We've always been adamant that we weren't gonna do any new music, and our attitudes have changed, so we'll see what's on the horizon."

But Rind admitted that the desire to create fresh material may come with its own set of challenges.

"Thinking about doing new music isn't just doing new music, it's making a commitment to do new music and support it," he said. "Wiley [Arnett], our guitar player, just opened a second restaurant, so it's pointless to try to do something if you really can't get behind it, so we need to talk about, if we do do something, is there an opportunity to support it properly, what are people available for, and all that kind of stuff.'

According to Phil, his motivation to get creative is not influenced by the potential demand that may — or may not — exist for new SACRED REICH music.

"Do people wanna hear [something new from SACRED REICH]? I don't know," he said. "I'm to the point where I don't care. I've always been more or less to the point that I don't care, because people go, 'Oh, there's a big audience.' I'm, like, 'Well, how do you know there's a big audience? How do any of us know?' We don't. We can make an assumption that there's an audience. But my point is, look, when we made our first record, there was no audience, no one knew who the fuck we were, and we did it anyhow, 'cause we didn't care, 'cause we knew we had to do it. So you just have to do it with the right attitude. You have to do it 'cause you want to, you think the time is right, you have something to say, and then you go from there. So there's all that crap."

Adding that his "voice has actually gotten better" over the years and describing himself as a "more confident" singer than he was in the past, Rind said that he is not entirely sure what musical direction a new SACRED REICH album would take.

"I'm super guilty of overthinking things, generally speaking, so I can obviously overthink, like, 'What does SACRED REICH even sound in 2017? Should I kowtow to whatever expectation that our fanbase may have of what we sound like?'" he said. "So there's all those things, like twenty years of not making new music. What do we sound like? And I finally just came to the realization we sound like whatever it is that we put out, and that'll be fine. Which is pretty obvious, I think, to probably most people, but to me, I had to work through the process and get to that thing. So we'll see."

During the "Danko Jones" chat, Rind also laid out the SACRED REICH timetable for the rest of 2017. He said: "We've got four weeks of touring in Europe, which is like a long time for us, 'cause we really… basically, we have been doing [short runs] of maybe about two weeks. And then we have our first U.S. and North American shows in, like, twenty years — we're doing three weeks in the States and a couple of dates in Canada. And we're gonna do a thirtieth-anniversary edition of 'Ignorance' coming out, I think, end of July in Europe and then a few weeks later in the States and North America. And right now we're kind of in negotiation to get our whole catalog back, 'cause there's been an issue, contractually, with different record companies, so the records haven't been available 'cause we haven't had the rights to 'em. So I think we're on the verge of getting everything back. So that's really cool. And then we'll go from there."

Watch MARTY FRIEDMAN Perform In New York City

Watch MARTY FRIEDMAN Perform In New York City

Fan-filmed video footage of former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman's August 4 performance at Highline Ballroom in New York City can be seen below.

Friedman's new solo album, "Wall Of Sound", was released on August 4 via Prosthetic Records. Produced by Friedman, engineered by Paul Fig (GHOST, RUSH, ALICE IN CHAINS) and mixed by Jens Bogren (KREATOR, OPETH, SEPULTURA), the isc "expands and destroys any conventional notions of instrumental music," according to a press release. Legendary QUEEN producer Mack came on board to handle the mixing on two tracks, "Streetlight" and "For A Friend", which Friedman proclaimed was "an honor for me, for sure."

Friedman said last year about the musical direction of the follow-up to his 2014 album "Inferno": "This time it's even more ambitious than that album was, a bit more dense, and, with any luck, more exciting for those of you who will hear it."

He added: "There will be elevent or twelve songs in total. Sometimes a song you really love doesn't make it to the album because it doesn't fit nicely in the sequencing. Either way, we're pushing sixty minutes, so it won't be a short album."

Marty's new CD was recorded in part at Dave Grohl's Studio 606 in California with engineer Paul Fig (ALICE IN CHAINS, RUSH, DEFTONES) and was previously described by Friedman as "a way more intense version" of its predecessor: "deeper, sadder, happier and more aggressive."

Like "Inferno", Friedman's new album features several guests, including prog-thrashers MUTOID MAN, Jørgen Munkeby of the Norwegian avant-garde jazz-metal outfit SHINING and Jinxx of Los Angeles theatrical rockers BLACK VEIL BRIDES.

Regarding how the collaboration with Jinxx came about, Friedman told Guitar World: "I'm a big fan of Jinxx and BLACK VEIL BRIDES. He came to my show in L.A. in 2015. Right after that, I was told that he plays violin. I didn't even know that! Then light bulbs went off. I thought now's the chance to really turn some heads by doing something that's a little bit, well, a lot, unexpected to my fans and his fans."

Watch ENSLAVED's Video For New Song 'Storm Son'

Watch ENSLAVED's Video For New Song 'Storm Son'

Norwegian progressive black avantgardists ENSLAVED will release their new album, "E", on October 13 via Nuclear Blast. The follow-up to 2015's "In Times" was recorded at Duper & Solslottet Studios in Bergen and was once again mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden.

To provide a first taste of what's to come, the band now unveils their debut music video for the ten-minute-long single "Storm Son", which blends mesmerizing prog with jarring extreme metal and a folky atmosphere. The music video was designed by Josh Graham, who previously worked with SOUNDGARDEN and NEUROSIS, among others, and delivered a truly spectacular piece of animated art that you can watch below.

"'Storm Son' deals with the duality of man and nature, how important and basic that relationship is," explains ENSLAVED songwriter and guitarist Ivar Bjørnson. "Everything we do and create are imitations of nature; as we evolved from nature, that is how it must be — yet modern man thinks he and she is independent of nature, that we somehow are so superior that we do not have to take nature into consideration other than as a backdrop for shitty movies. Or festivals. Losing touch with nature is basically to lose touch with being human."

A press release states: "This fourteenth full-length masterpiece sets the musical mind-twisters free from genre boundaries and offers an unprecedented mix of prog, extreme metal and shoegaze on eight tracks with a play time of more than an hour.

"The album was once again written by the unholy alliance of Bjørnson and singer and bassist Grutle Kjellson and marks the introduction of their new keyboard master and clean vocalist Håkon Vinje.

"'E' heralds a new era for ENSLAVED. Its cover artwork was once again hand-painted by the Norwegian artist Truls Espedal.

"As support for their brave sound journey, the quintet brought several guest musicians on board for the songs 'Hiindsiight' and 'Feathers Of Eolh', including WARDRUNA's Einar Kvitrafn Selvik, flutist Daniel Mage and jazz saxophonist Kjetil Møster."

Ivar explains the "E" title: "The concept of the album lies in both its meaning as a letter in the latin alphabet and its runic reference: the rune 'Ehwaz', that is depicted as an 'M' when drawn as rune (just to make sure it gets really confusing) — the runes are drawn to look like what they literally mean. Ehwaz (pronounced and used as what's known as E, but drawn as an 'M') looks like and means 'horse.' Which is closely linked to its esoteric meaning; which is 'trust' and 'co-operation.' One of mankind's oldest and deepest pairings/collaborations with any 'outside' entities is with the horse. When they were first tamed and utilized, there must have arisen the notion of some esoteric link between the two; now we could move swiftly, escape faster and even eat and drink from the animal (both horse milk and horse blood), and of course show off and brag before our enemies and peers with the most spectacular horses.

"So, no, it is not about horses! It is about the symbioses that surrounds us; which are vital to our existence, to our development — on all scales: man and vessel (for instance horse, yes), a person and its significant other, child and parent, musician and instrument, chaos and order, subconscious and conscious, Oden and Sleipnir — wisdom and communication. There are many levels and variations of this concept on the album; the duality of man and nature, present and past personalities within one self, the conscious fear and the subconscious drive. And other symbiosis."

"E" is now available for pre-order through Nuclear Blast's online store in a variety of packages, including green and brown vinyl.

"E" track listing

01. Storm Son02. The River's Mouth03. Sacred Horse04. Axis Of The Worlds05. Feathers Of Eolh06. Hiindsiight07. Djupet (bonus track)08. What Else Is There? (RÖYKSOPP cover; bonus track)

"I'm always psyched and proud when we have finished an album recording, and this is no exception!" states Kjellson. "It was a really exciting process this time, with the lineup change and everything, so although it wasn't a dramatic change, the band dynamics were suddenly different. But, it was like a little re-boot, a fresh start so to speak. The studio sessions were great, and we all feel that we have done something truly amazing. We hope you'll enjoy it. Ugh!"

Bjørnson recently stated about ENSLAVED's new album: "I have never worked this hard to put together music for an album before. We are a tighter unit than ever before, which is obvious sonically. The concept conjured by myself and old war-brother Grutle is the strongest we have worked with. Finally, I am proud that we have taken more risks than ever before, and one in particular — and it is yielding awesome results. What does that mean? Stay tuned to find out!"

FAITH NO MORE's MIKE PATTON Performs With DEAD CROSS For First Time (Video)

FAITH NO MORE's MIKE PATTON Performs With DEAD CROSS For First Time (Video)

FAITH NO MORE's Mike Patton made his live debut as the singer of DEAD CROSS last night (Thursday, August 10) at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California. Video footage of the concert can be seen below.

The self-titled debut album from DEAD CROSS, which is rounded out by drummer Dave Lombardo (ex-SLAYER, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, MISFITS), bassist Justin Pearson (THE LOCUST, RETOX, HEAD WOUND CITY) and guitarist Michael Crain (RETOX, FESTIVAL OF DEAD DEER), was released on August 4 via Ipecac Recordings. The effort was helmed by producer Ross Robinson, who has previously worked with KORN, DEFTONES, SEPULTURA and LIMP BIZKIT, among others, and was mastered at Golden Mastering in Ventura, California.

"Dead Cross" features a glow-in-the-dark cover (CD/LP) created by Eric Livingston, with vinyl available in a limited-edition gold and a clear/red/black swirl.

Patton told Rolling Stone that he got involved with DEAD CROSS after reaching out to Lombardo to see if he could release the band's album on Ipecac. After getting a text from the drummer asking him to join the group, "my jaw dropped," the singer said. "I was like, 'Who, me? Hmm …' And I think it took like all of 30 seconds, but in a sarcastic way, I'm like, 'Yeah, of course. I can do this. Are you sure you want me?' So I kind of second-guessed him a little bit. And he said, 'Man, you'd be our dream vocalist.' And then it was just a matter of logistics. I decided to record it here in my basement, which is fitting. It shouldn't sound too polished."

Regarding DEAD CROSS's musical direction, Patton said: "To me, it is a traditional hardcore record. It is very pointed, direct and visceral. Like, I wasn't going to play keyboards, add samples or any kind of orchestration. It was like, 'Yo, just go for it.' In some ways, it reminded me of stuff that we had collectively all grown up with and loved when we were like teenagers — bands like the ACCÜSED, DEEP WOUND or SIEGE, stuff that was just brutal, uncompromising and right to the point. I was listening to all those bands again before this came to be, so it was already back infused in my blood. And now I got a chance to do a pencil-in-your-eye record."

Lombardo concurred, telling Rolling Stone: "The album is only 28 minutes long. And the funny thing is [SLAYER's] 'Reign In Blood' was 29 minutes. This album carries so much anger and frustration. You hear it in my drumming. It was the perfect birth of a hardcore album. It's one of the most brutal albums I've ever done."

Joining DEAD CROSS on the bulk of their North American tour is SECRET CHIEFS 3. The San Francisco-based outfit, who describe themselves as "an ever-unfolding musical vision," features Patton's former MR. BUNGLE bandmate Trey Spruance. "I have no idea what kind of chaos it will conjure on stage or in the audience," said Lombardo of the five-week outing, continuing, "but I know it's going to be a hell of a good time."

DEAD CROSS last year parted ways with singer Gabe Serbian.

DORO Is Aiming To Release Her Next Studio Album In August 2018

German metal queen Doro Pesch has revealed to Metal Jacket Magazine in a new interview that she is planning on releasing her long-awaited follow-up to 2012's "Raise Your Fist" album next summer. She said (see video below): "We're gonna put out a new record next year. So it will be out… We wanna try to time it, like, first week in August — punctual for the Wacken [Open Air] festival [in Germany] — and then we're gonna do a big tour."

Doro's last release was the "Love's Gone To Hell" single, which came out in April 2016 through Nuclear Blast. In addition to three versions of the title track, the six-track maxi single also contained two live tracks: "Rock Till Death", featuring Hansi Kürsch (BLIND GUARDIAN) and "Save My Soul".

Pesch told EMP Live TV in a 2015 interview that she had some "heavy" and "really fast songs" in the works for her next studio album.

"Raise Your Fist" boasted guest appearances by MOTÖRHEAD's Lemmy Kilmister and OZZY OSBOURNE/FIREWIND guitarist Gus G., and artwork by British artist and longtime Doro collaborator Geoffrey Gillespie.

USNEA Debut “Pyrrhic Victory” Music Video

USNEA Debut “Pyrrhic Victory” Music Video

Portland doom quartet, Usnea, have released a video for “Pyrrhic Victory”, a track from their upcoming third full-length album, Portals Into Futility. The clip can be found below.

Inspired by dystopian science-fiction and the painful intersection of today's crushing reality, Portals Into Futility is five songs and 56 minutes of expertly crafted and elegantly depressive doom/sludge. With an evolved sound of strength and dynamism, Usnea delve more into the worlds of dissonant death metal, varied vocal structures and cinematic composition, all while maintaining the monumental heaviness, brutality, discord, anger, and mournful melodicism of their previous work. Across dark and brooding peaks and valleys, Usnea remind us that no matter how many doors are opened to the human species, our self-aggrandizement and hubris all lead to futility.

Portals Into Futility is due out September 8th on CD/2xLP/Digital via Relapse Records. Physical pre-orders and exclusive bundles are currently available via Relapse.com at this location and digital pre-orders are available via Bandcamp here.

LORD OF THE LOST Premier “Waiting For You To Die” Lyric Video

LORD OF THE LOST Premier “Waiting For You To Die” Lyric Video

A lyric video for “Waiting For You To Die”, the lead track from Lord Of The Lost’s upcoming Swan Songs II album, is available for streaming below.

With their Swan Songs-series, Lord Of The Lost showcase their ability to create fascinatingly heavy classical music. This is the second time the Hamburg-based dark rockers have conjured their music with an ensemble album in such grandiose style. Their upcoming masterpiece, Swan Songs II, will be released October 6th via Napalm Records and will feature some of the finest dark rock-sinfonia coated by dramatic arrangements with a chamber orchestra.

"You could say Swan Songs is some kind of a side-project for us, but Swan Songs II is predominated with 10 brand new songs so we would like to emphasize its independence as a main album," vocalist Chris Harms explains. "After our show at Gothic Meets Classic and when we started to re-arrange our songs with a symphonic orchestra in 2014 for the first Swan Songs release back in early 2015, this album turned out as a huge success. Sold out shows, many emotions and tears behind, on and in front of the stage, it's been a very touching record for us and our fans, so that kept motivating us as well as in our creative freedom to release the next chapter of new songs you won't hear as normal rock versions, and what should become Swan Songs II."

Swan Songs II tracklisting:

“Waiting For You To Die”
“Lighthouse”
“The Broken Ones”
“My Better Me”
“Ribcages”
“Wander In Sable”
“The Devil You Know”
“We Were Divine”
“From The Brink Of The Other World”
“Fall Asleep”

“Waiting For You To Die” lyric video:

Teaser:

A true opus featuring ten brand-new songs, which showcase tender strings and charming piano play with a heaviness one has come to expect from the band. Once more Lord Of The Lost manage to deliver their songs with a new beauty and gloss, and prove that they cannot be reduced to their brute site only. Swan Songs II is a touching creation with top arrangements.

Swan Songs II will be available as CD Digi Pack, LP Gatefold or Digital Download. Pre-order here.

In support of their upcoming release, Lord Of The Lost will heavily hit the road this year. Find the band’s live itinerary at this location.

IRON MONKEY - Video Sneak Peek Of New Album

IRON MONKEY - Video Sneak Peek Of New Album

Relapse Records will release the new album from UK sludgecore legends Iron Monkey, entitled 9-13, on October 20th. A first glimpse has been offered via the following clip.

Heavily influenced by the nihilistic sound of groups like Eyehategod, Buzzov*en, Floor and Grief, Iron Monkey originally formed in Nottingham, England in 1994 and released two full-lengths (1997's self-titled debut and 1998's Our Problem), a live album and a split with Church Of Misery before splitting in 1999.

Now, almost two decades later, the band has decided to reform as a trio with co-founding members S. Watson on bass and J. Rushby on guitar / vocals. They're rounded out by new member S. Briggs (Chaos U.K.) who also played with original Iron Monkey vocalist J.P. Morrow in the short-lived sludge supergroup, My War.

The band commented on the reformation and new material: "We're older, more cynical, more isolationist. Musically, we're more aggressive, more focused - a direct assault. We intend to take what is rightfully ours, usurp the scene, then crush its skull."

Greece’s AETHERIAN To Release The Untamed Wilderness Album In November; “Seeds Of Deception” Lyric Video Posted

Greece’s AETHERIAN To Release The Untamed Wilderness Album In November; “Seeds Of Deception” Lyric Video Posted

Greek melodic death metal upcomers, Aetherian, have released a lyric video for “Seeds Of Deception”, a track from their upcoming debut album, The Untamed Wilderness, to be released in November via Lifeforce Records. Watch the clip below.

Listening to Aetherian for the first time makes you think the band would come from Finland or Sweden, but the trio in fact is from sunny shores of Greece. Even with a Southern heritage and much more Vitamin D in their veins the band from Athens share the same melancholic genes as their “competitors” from the upper North. With the sound the band is creating we are very sure Aetherian will be playing in the first league of melodic death metal bands very soon.

In April 2016 the band self-released a video clip for their single “The Rain”, which received amazing feedback and well over 1.25 million plays on YouTube so far.

THE UNGUIDED Reveal Details For Upcoming Album With New Singer

THE UNGUIDED Reveal Details For Upcoming Album With New Singer

Sadly, former guitarist and singer Roland Johannsson has decided to leave The Unguided, but with new frontman Jonathan Thorpenberg, The Unguided have found the perfect replacement. After having released a 2-track EP in December of last year, it's time to get ready for the full-length studio album. The album, entitled And The Battle Royale, is scheduled for a worldwide November 10th release via Napalm Records.

Richard Sjunnesson states: "We've without doubt sacrificed our five souls into this one. Everyone knew it would be a career defining record after the departure of our highly acclaimed brother and we had no intensions to disappoint our fans nor ourselves writing and record this dynamic monster with innovative producer Dino Medanhodzic. Everyone indeed brought their absolute A-game on this record and Jonathan over performed in every possible way whilst also bringing something completely new to the table. A table which much urgently needed it I'd say. Come November and the battle royale will make or break you!"

Tracklisting:

“Death's Sting”
“The Heartbleed Bug”
“Legendary”
“Dark Metamorphosis”
“A Link To The Past”
“Anchor Stone (Of The World)”
“Manipulate Fear”
“Force Of Nature”
“King's Fall”
“Nighttaker” (Bonus Track)
“Daybreaker” (Bonus Track)
“Nighttaker” (Bonus Track)

The Unguided have decided to deliver a full live DVD with the limited digipak version on top of this new release. The DVD captures Roland Johansson's farewell show in Falkenberg (Sweden) with a unique 6-man strong setting of the band.

And The Battle Royale"will be available as digital album download, as well as 6-page digipak including the already mentioned bonus DVD.

The track listing of the DVD reads as follows:

“Becoming Death” (Intro)
“Enraged”
“King Of Clubs”
“Blodbad”
“Heartseeker”
“Green Eyed Demon” (Feat. Christoffer Andersson)
“Unguided Entity”
“Betrayer Of The Code” (Feat. John Bengtsson)
“Operation: E.A.E.”
“Eye Of The Thylacine”
“Inherit The Earth”
“The Worst Day” (Revisited)
“Nighttaker”
“Phoenix Down”
“Hate (And Other Triumphs)”

Pre-orders will be available shortly.

In terms of excellent songwriting, both vocalists, Richard Sjunnesson and new addition Jonathan Thorpenberg, are building up a perfect symbiosis of brutal shouts and huge melodies. Stomping industrial is gilded in heavy-handed synthesizers as a battle trophy. And The Battle Royale is a must-have for all those who value pure harshness with a good portion of sex appeal

PHANTOM 5 Premier “Crossfire” Music Video

PHANTOM 5 Premier “Crossfire” Music Video

The second studio release from Phantom 5, entitled Play II Win, will be released on October 13th. A video for the album track “Crossfire” is available for streaming below.

After the success of their self-titled debut album, the brainchild of producer/guitarist (and for this record, bassist) Michael Voss and vocalist Claus Lessmann have returned with yet another incredible outing of impeccable German melodic hard rock. Once again joined by Robert Boebel on guitars and keyboards and Axel Kruse on drums, these fist pumping anthems will tickle the eardrums of any connoisseur of melodic hard rock.

Michael Voss says, "To all the rockers out there, we are more than happy to continue this lab our of love and come back with a bang! Again, guitar wizard Robby Boebel delivered powerful riffs and Claus wrote some magic melodies. The drums were delivered by heart-pounding visual timekeeper Axel Kruse and taped by the famous Rolf Munkes at Empire Studios. 11 well balanced songs, full of emotion and power, right in the vein of our first album. ANTARKTIS Featuring IN MOURNING, Ex-OCTOBER TIDE Members Reveal Ildlaante Album Details; “Svalbard” Music Video Streaming

ANTARKTIS Featuring IN MOURNING, Ex-OCTOBER TIDE Members Reveal Ildlaante Album Details; “Svalbard” Music Video Streaming

Sweden’s Antarktis, who recently signed a record deal with Agonia Records, have revealed details for their debut album, Ildlaante. Set to be released on October 6th, the record features six tracks with a playing time of 52 minutes. A video for the first single, "Svalbard", is available for streaming below.

Antarktis was co-founded by guitarists Björn Pettersson (In Mourning) and Tobias Netzell (In Mourning, ex-October Tide). Initially a few songs were written, yet laid on ice before they ever saw the light of day. As years passed, the idea of Antarktis was picked up once again, and what first started out as an after work side project, ventured off into a territory uncharted by the duo's mother band, In Mourning. Thanks to vocalist and bassist Daniel Jansson (Ikhon) and drummer Jonas Martinsson (Me The Tiger, Necrosavant), the lineup got completed in 2013, giving Antarktis new life and a personality of its own.

The band comented on the debut album: "We are all extremely proud of this album and we're excited to finally be getting it out. We've really grown together a lot as a band since we formed, into something where we all can contribute and write together very unconditionally. The entire album and the process behind it is very much a group effort which we think makes it stand apart from what we do with our respective other bands and projects. Our hats off to Karl Daniel Lidén for a meaty mix/master and to Emy Rojas for the beautiful art."

Ildlaante was recorded between September 2016 and February 2017 in three different studios in Sweden. Drums were tracked with Alexander Backlund and Sebastian Svalland at Nailvillage Studio. Guitars, bass, vocals and keyboards at Studio Libra, while additional vocals at Ikhon HQ. The record was mixed and mastered by Karl Daniel Lidén (Breach, Terra Tenebrosa, The Old Wind). Artwork was created by Emy Rojas of Arrache-toi Un Oeil (Converge, Sunn O))) and Clutch).
