IN MOURNING Premier “Below Rise To The Above” Lyric Video

IN MOURNING Premier “Below Rise To The Above” Lyric Video

Sweden's lauded melodic death/doom metallers and Agonia Records recent signess, In Mourning, will release their new album, Afterglow, on May 20th. A new lyric video for the track “Below Rise To The Above” can be found below.

The new album’s cover artwork has been prepared by Kristian Wåhlin (Bathory, Tiamat, Amorphis, Dark Tranquillity).

In Mourning commented: "The new album is called Afterglow and its story takes off from where The Weight Of Oceans ends. It’s a bit more complex than our previous albums and it has got a bit of a different sound than the older ones, a bit more alive like a band and maybe not always as studio corrected as our earlier material. However, the foundation of the music is still what we’ve always done and the key elements are pretty much the same but with some new additions and a few new twists and turns of course.”

This will be the first album featuring new drummer, Daniel Liljekvist (ex-Katatonia).

Hailed by many as the heir to Opeth's melodeath throne, In Mourning was formed in the Swedish woods in the year 2000. Since then the band has evolved over the years striving to refine its sound to what it is today. April 2012 marked the release of the bands third and latest album The Weight Of Oceans, a mythology inspired conceptual story that journeys to the sea. Musically, the group blends a broad spectrum of influences into a foundation of melodic death metal. Thrusting from doomy metal-riffs, blasting drumbeats and deep growling vocals to calm breezes of clean flowing melodies and harmonies.

Afterglow was recorded between November 2015 and March 2016 in Nordin Music Studios (drums) and Libra Studios (guitar, bass and vocals). Mixing and mastering duties have been handled by Jonas Martinsson in Necrosavant Studio.

Afterglow will be available in the following formats:
-Digipack CD (with 12 page booklet)
-Jewelcase CD (with 12 page booklet)
-Regular Double Black LP
-Double Orange Crush Transparent LP (hand-numbered to 135 copies)
-Black t-shirt in two different versions
-Digital formats

Find pre-orders at Agonia Records.

“The Grinning Mist”

FAMILY - Rootsy Progressive Metal Collective Sign With Prosthetic Records; Future History Album Trailer Video Streaming

Brooklyn’s Family has been wowing audiences since 2011 with its unique and earnest blend of classic rock meets modern heaviness, alongside a healthy dose of behind-the-beat New Orleans groove and progressive rhythmic patterns. The band has embraced an amorphous collective approach, enduring lineup shifts that have continuously evolved its sound. Throughout the process, previous members have maintained involvement, contributing to live performances and forming offshoot bands together.

Prosthetic Records will release Family’s sophomore album, Future History this summer. A teaser video can be seen below, with more details coming soon.

The band will play at Webster Hall in NYC on March 29th with new labelmates Scale The Summit and North, along with headliner Intronaut, and is also confirmed for the 2016 Psycho Vegas festival in late August.

Denmark’s STATEMENT Rush Release “Heaven Will Burn” Video To Sympathize With Victims Of Brussels Terrorist Attack

Denmark’s STATEMENT Rush Release “Heaven Will Burn” Video To Sympathize With Victims Of Brussels Terrorist Attack

Danish hard rock band Statement and their record label Mighty Music have rush released a new music video to sympathize with the victims from yesterday’s attacks in Brussels.

“Heaven Will Burn” was originally meant to be released next month, but the band and their record label felt the urge to release it right away, as this song is all about what should not have happened yesterday.

Says Niels Larsen: “When do we learn from the mistakes of humanity? Yesterday’s tragedy is a horrible example of the ignorance of religion. Imagine we could all live in peace, under the same sun, moon and stars. Imagine people would use their common sense. No one wants to see the world go up in flames.”

Michael H. Andersen, CEO Mighty Music states: “Hard rock and heavy metal is an international language and often misunderstood to be violent. We do not believe in violence and in innocent people getting killed – we believe in peace and we believe the Western World is a World for people that choose to live our way of life. As equals. Men and women, black and white”.

"Heaven Will Burn" is the title track of the band’s upcoming album, to be released via Mighty Music/Target Group on June 17th. More details to follow.

JEFF SCOTT SOTO's SOTO Streaming Snippet Of New Track “Paranoia”

Soto, featuring vocalist Jeff Scott Soto, will release their second studio album, Divak, on April 1st via earMUSIC. A snippet of the new song, “Paranoia”, is streaming below:

Divak (pronounced "dee-vock") comes shortly after the band's debut release, Inside The Vertigo. It's a mere 15 months later, partly due to singer Jeff Scott Soto's insistence on continuing to create and build a true brand for his new venture.

Once again, the album is produced by Jeff Scott Soto and drummer Edu Cominato. It was mixed by long time JSS engineer/associate John Ellis, as well. The band features Soto on vocals, Cominato on drums, lead guitarist Jorge Salan, bassist David Z, and keyboardist/guitarist BJ. They are heavily featured on Divak, with their writing contributions together.

The first single "FreakShow" was co-produced/written by Tony Dickinson, who also co-wrote "The Fall”, which was the first single from Inside The Vertigo. The track is an extension of the Soto sound created especially for this new band.

Soto will debut live this month with a string of East Coast US dates, leading into the annual Monsters of Rock Cruise (East), alongside Steve Vai, Extreme, Queensryche, and countless headliners.

Soto, formed in 2014, are the dream band created when Jeff Scott Soto realized how much he missed the "heavier side" of his career after fronting artists like Yngwie Malmsteen, Talisman, and Journey, and even his own solo albums. The band hopes to continue its role as a driving force in today's current hard rock and metal scene.

DAVE MUSTAINE On Which Member Of METALLICA He Is Closest With:

DAVE MUSTAINE On Which Member Of METALLICA He Is Closest With: 'None Of Them'

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine was interviewed last week on the Fox Business program "Kennedy", hosted by former MTV VJ Kennedy. You can now watch the segment below. A few excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On Bernie Sanders's vision of a Nordic-like socialist utopia for America:

Mustaine: "I don't really follow Bernie Sanders that much, but I do think you're right about that — [that he is] trying to portray things are gonna be utopian if you you over to his direction. But I think that right now it's so hard to look at all the different candidates and try and figure out, what are they really about? I mean, if you peel away the veneer, who are they? It was funny, when [Marco] Rubio had that meltdown and he started to get into the name-calling stuff and you see who he really is capable of being. Or not. Is he really the other guy that was stayed all the time. So… I don't know."

On this being the hardest election season ever:

Mustaine: "Yeah, I think so. I think that… Well, for me… I mean, we've been friends for a long time, so you know a lot about me. And when we first actually met, we were doing the 'Rock The Vote' thing in '92 for the Democratic National Convention, so I've had a lot of experience covering politics, learning about it in order to do that. And I think that the way that the whole process is right now, it's, like, who do you vote for? This is the lesser of two evils, you know. And you hear all these celebrities that are saying, 'Well, if [Donald] Trump gets elected, I'm moving to…' 'If Hillary [Clinton] gets elected, I'm moving to…' and it's, like, if you don't like the way the political process is going, then do something about it. Get involved. Change it."

On whether he still speaks to the guys in METALLICA:

Mustaine: "Sometimes."

On which member of METALLICA he is closest with:

Mustaine: "None of 'em. 'Close,' if you mean 'close close.' But, you know, it's weird. You have a friendship and then it's broken up and you try and tell yourself…. justify why it happened. And a lot of times, you wanna make the other person look like the bad guy, 'cause you don't wanna really show that you still have emotion about it. And if you didn't care about somebody, they have no capability of hurting your feelings. So I think a lot of that whole feud was buried decades ago — literally. And it's just people keep asking — 'cause they don't know. And I used to get bent out of shape, because when people would ask me the same question… I think the funniest thing is when people try and talk to me and they'll say something like, 'So, what's it like in MET… eh… MEGADETH?'"

CHILDREN OF BODOM Frontman On PHILIP ANSELMO:

CHILDREN OF BODOM Frontman On PHILIP ANSELMO: 'There's Nothing Rock And Roll About' Racism

CHILDREN OF BODOM frontman Alexi Laiho has weighed in on the incident two months ago when ex-PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo made a "white power" gesture onstage at a concert.

Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic "Walk" at the January 22 "Dimebash" event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, California in honor of his former bandmate, late PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. As he left the stage, he made a Nazi-style salute. He appeared to say "white power" as he made the gesture, but he later claimed he was referring to drinking white wine as part of an "inside joke."

During an interview with Horns Up Rocks, Laiho commented on the incident, saying (see video below): "I heard about it, yeah, and I actually haven't seen the footage. But I don't… I'm not sure what to say about that.

"Obviously, racism in general, you know, it's bullshit, and it's definitely not a part of metal or rock and roll; there's nothing rock and roll about it, and that's a fact. But what he did or what he said… Who knows? But on some level, though, I kind of believe that he didn't mean it that way, but, of course, it sounds kind of bad. [He said] 'white power' or something like that? Yeah. Let's just put it this way: I wouldn't say that."

He continued: "Obviously, especially nowadays, everything is filmed with a thousand different cell phones, so, of course, it's gonna become a huge matter. You can't get away with pretty much anything nowadays, so you've gotta be careful what you say.

"It's not a cool thing to do, but still… It seems like nowadays, especially, when bad stuff happens, or even good things happen, people forget so quickly, 'cause there's just so much information on the Internet, and people get it automatically. I'm pretty sure that… Give it a year or two [and he'll be okay]. Hopefully, yeah. I don't know… But I hope so anyway."

Asked if he has ever been a similar situation where he said or did something controversial while under the influence of alcohol, Laiho said: "Nothing like that ever. No matter how drunk I've been or whatever the hell, it's never entered my mind to say stuff like that. I might have, in the past, when I was in my 20s or whatever, when you're young and arrogant or whatever, and at fifteen beers deep, I might have talked some shit about some fellow musicians that didn't deserve it. Just because I'm not a fan of their music doesn't mean that I shouldn't respect what they do, and that's something that's not very cool. So that sort of thing, it's stupid. But, to my knowledge, I've never said anything politically incorrect."

Several notable musicians have come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, including MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a "big bully" and described Philip's behavior as "fucking wrong."

One musician who stuck up for Anselmo was Adam Crosier of the Arkansas band HYMNS, which is signed to Anselmo's Housecore label.

"This slanderous attack against Phil Anselmo in the metal media right now is reaching a despicable level of ugly, inept judgment," he wrote on his Facebook page. "There are no words that can accurately describe how false the racism claims truly are … I know, without a doubt, that Phil Anselmo is NOT racist. This accusation could not be further from the truth."

Crosier told BLABBERMOUTH.NET: "I think he has just made some mistakes in the past and obviously at the Dimebash — which, added together, may paint an ugly picture of his personality. It's very unfortunate, because he truly is a very compassionate and loving person."

GENE SIMMONS Discusses Lost 70’s VAN HALEN Demos - “It’s A Lot Of Cool Stuff, But The Band Just Doesn’t Want It To Come Out”

GENE SIMMONS Discusses Lost 70’s VAN HALEN Demos - “It’s A Lot Of Cool Stuff, But The Band Just Doesn’t Want It To Come Out”

While speaking with Rolling Stone about the 40th anniversary of KISS’ Destroyer earlier this month, Gene Simmons digressed to reflect on the anniversary of some other recordings he made in 1976: his demos with Van Halen.

The bassist had caught the group when they were still in their infancy, playing the Sunset Strip club circuit, and he offered to put them to tape and consider them for a label deal.

"I discovered the band," he says. "I saw them and signed them and flew them to New York and put them in Electric Lady Studios. They were signed to my company, Man of 1,000 Faces. I produced their 24-track demo — 15 songs — which I still own, and, oh, it has everything from the first record and also faster versions of 'House of Pain' and stuff. It's a lot of cool stuff, but the band just doesn't want it to come out — you know, the back and forth with [David Lee] Roth complicated matters."

EPICA

EPICA's MARK JANSEN Offers Update On Next Album

"Moshpit" show, which airs on the SYN 90.7 radio station in Melbourne, Australia, recently conducted an interview with guitarist/vocalist Mark Jansen of Dutch symphonic metallers EPICA. You can now listen to the chat below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On the progress of the recording sessions for EPICA's follow-up to 2014's "The Quantum Enigma" album:

Mark: "At the moment, we're recording the strings, and right after, the choirs we'll get to record and the brass. So we are getting into the final stage of the recordings. And the drums, bass, guitars, pianos, everything has been recorded already. And after the [Australian] tour, we will record the lead vocals of Simone [Simons] and my grunts. And then it's already basically time to start the mixing process pretty soon."

On how the new EPICA album will be different from "The Quantum Enigma":

Mark: "The biggest difference, I think, is, on 'The Quantum Enigma', we already used real strings but still samples for the brass. And now, with the new album, we do everything we possibly can live, so also the brass section… we hired a brass section to play all the brass parts. And I think the album will also really benefit from that. Even though samples are, live, nowadays so good, but still, if there's real people playing the music, it makes still a big difference. So I think that will be the biggest difference."

On the evolution of EPICA's songwriting:

Mark: "I think we learned lot. We always made music we really felt like making, so we never listened to what was popular at the time, or what other bands were doing. But we developed, I noticed, in a different way than most bands around us. When this female-fronted scene was pretty big back in the day, around 2000, many of these bands became more commercial later on, and we always developed in a more… we [went] more in a metal direction. And many people, at that time, said, 'You are crazy. You are ruining your own career.' But now when I look back, I think that was… Even though we did just what we felt like doing, but it was smart, actually, because that made us stand out, and that's why we're also still around and still growing. So, I think, at that point, people thought it was a stupid move, but it appeared to be a good one."

On whether it's a challenge to balance Simone's operatic vocals with his "grunts" while writing new music:

Mark: "It's always a challenge, that's for sure, but, for some reason, all the elements, they fall automatically [in the] right [place]. It's hard to explain, but after all these years, you find a way to make it naturally work. So back in the day, it was more like a puzzle, a search, and now it naturally happens. So still sometimes we discuss, 'It might be better to have a choir here instead of Simone singing,' or, 'Maybe we should not use grunts here.' So these little discussions still happen, but usually it's quite obvious where we're gonna put what. But sometimes it's even good to still experiment a bit, because it's always also good to go off the path and try and explore new things. And with every record we also try that, and we sometimes try ideas that at first seem ridiculous but then still work out. So that's also [something] we learned — that we try out everything, ever ridiculous ideas, that seem ridiculous, and later on appear to be a great idea. Because that's the way it works. You should never say that something doesn't work before trying it."

EPICA's next album is tentatively due in September.

Hammerheart dare say that Necrosis was at the same level of Pentagram (Chile) and Sepultura's Schizophrenia era at the second half of the ‘80s, but one also hears Exodus, Slayer, Excel and old Corrosion Of Conformity.

Absolute essential for fans of top thrash metal and South American cult alike.

The deluxe 2CD edition will include more bonus material, the LP reissue will be the album and the demo. Top notch packaging and audio of course. Release is expected towards the end of the year.

INCITE Premier “No Remorse” Music Video

INCITE Premier “No Remorse” Music Video

Incite, the Arizona based metal outfit led by Richie Cavalera, will release their new album, Oppression, on April 22nd via Minus Head Records. The band’s new video for the album track “No Remorse” can be found below.

"The video for "No Remorse" will definitely have viewers on the edge of their seats," states Richie Cavalera. "We brought back director Robert Sexton, who always tries to push boundaries, and he surely did on this one. We wanted a video that showcased powerful women killing men and doing it with no remorse. Each member of the band is killed a different way. The video ends with a final bloodbath as all four women hold their kill for the world to see. You'll definitely watch it over and over again trying to catch all the subtle details in each murder."

Pre-orders for the new album are up at Bandcamp. Oppression was recorded at the Omen Room Studios, Garden Grove, CA with producer Steve Evetts (Dillinger Escape Plan, Suicide Silence, Every Time I Die).

Richie Cavalera states, “The shredding and ferocity on this record will surely fire up all metal heads. It's by far, darker and faster than anything we've released before. The man chosen to take this ride through hell and back with us is no other than producer Steve Evetts.”

Tracklisting:

“Never Surrender”
“Lost Reality”
“Stagnant”
“No Remorse”

THE JELLY JAM Feat. DREAM THEATER, KING

THE JELLY JAM Feat. DREAM THEATER, KING'S X Members: 'Profit' Album Due In May

THE JELLY JAM — featuring DREAM THEATER's John Myung, DIXIE DREGS/WINGER's Rod Morgenstein and KING'S X's Ty Tabor — will release its epic new album, "Profit", on May 27 via Music Theories Recordings/Mascot Label Group.

"Profit" is a glorious and affecting cinematic experience; full of suspense, the record follows the heroic yet daunting journey of The Prophet who, inspired by a deep sense of responsibility embarks on a mission to try and save the world, to open the eyes of Those Who Will Not See.

When asked about collaborative efforts of THE JELLY JAM, Tabor describes John as "the forefather of the band" and enthuses that "playing with Rod has been a lifelong dream. I was a huge fan of his right out of high school and the DIXIE DREGS transformed my idea of what a band could do. Rod was a huge part of the insanity on all of those early DIXIE DREGS albums. It's just a joy to get to play with him."

THE JELLY JAM's first album, "The Jelly Jam", was released in 2002, followed by 2004's "The Jelly Jam 2". The members' work with DREAM THEATER, WINGER and KING'S X kept the band away from the studio until the critically acclaimed "Shall We Descend" in 2011 marked a triumphant return for the trio.

Tabor describes the album's concept as "a fight between progress and jobs at all cost and not thinking about any future payment that are going to have to be made." Adding further that, "Each JELLY JAM album is very different and we are most definitely discovering new ground. The first album was pretty straight ahead in its nature and vibe. The second album was more about the songwriting and had a very different feel. By the time we got to 'Shall We Descend', we were all at different musical places. It had more of a darker edge to it, but we finally realized that we had tapped in to something that was unique to us. There really is no JELLY JAM 'sound'.

"In order to make 'Profit' the strongest album, we recorded a lot of excess music and chose songs that work together towards the general story idea. Musically and sonically, we started experimenting a lot further than we had before. It stands on its own as an album beginning to end with a purpose. It's not just a bunch of songs thrown together. It's an entire journey through a story."

THE JELLY JAM will support "Profit" with a full tour (dates to be announced). As Tabor explains: "This album is without a doubt the most special moment the band has ever had together and we must make touring real this year to support this album."

"Profit" track listing:

01. Care02. Stain On The Sun 03. Water 04. Stop 05. Perfect Lines (Flyin')06. Mr. Man 07. Memphis 08. Ghost Town 09. Heaven 10. Permanent Hold 11. Fallen 12. Strong Belief

METALLICA

METALLICA's 'Master Of Puppets' Album Selected For Induction Into National Recording Registry

METALLICA's classic 1986 LP "Master Of Puppets" is among the albums that have been selected for induction into the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry.

Under the terms of the National Recording Preservation Act of 2000, the Librarian, with advice from the Library's National Recording Preservation Board (NRPB), annually selects 25 recordings that are "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and are at least 10 years old. The selections for the 2015 registry bring the total number of recordings on the registry to 450, only a minuscule portion of the Library's vast recorded-sound collection of more than 3 million items.

"These recordings, by a wide range of artists in many genres of music and in spoken word, will be preserved for future listeners," acting Librarian of Congress David S. Mao said in a statement. "This collection of blues, jazz, rock, country and classical recordings, interspersed with important recordings of sporting events, speeches, radio shows and comedy, helps safeguard the record of what we've done and who we are."

Founded in 1800, the Library of Congress is the world's largest library. The Library seeks to spark imagination and creativity and to further human understanding and wisdom by providing access to knowledge through its magnificent collections, programs and exhibitions. Many of the Library's rich resources can be accessed through its web site at www.loc.gov.

METALLICA recently collaborated with an author named Matt Taylor on a book about the making of "Master Of Puppets".

Taylor, who wrote an acclaimed and extensively detailed book on the making of the movie "Jaws", contacted the band with a proposal to create a definitive history of the band's third album.

"Metallica: Back To The Front" is due in the fall.

"Master Of Puppets" was released on February 24, 1986 and was the first album METALLICA recorded after signing a major label deal with Elektra Records.

The set only reached No. 29 on the Billboard album chart but has sold over six million copies in the U.S. since.

It is the last record to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who was killed later that year in a tour bus crash.

Several songs from the album are still staples of METALLICA's live set, including "Battery", "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" and the title track.

Many fans consider it METALLICA's finest album, a fact that the band acknowledged by playing it in its entirety on a European tour in 2006.

"Master Of Puppets" continues to sell almost four thousands copies a week in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

SLAYER

SLAYER's PAUL BOSTAPH: 'It's Not Easy To Try And Emulate' What DAVE LOMBARDO Does

In a brand new interview with SF Station, SLAYER drummer Paul Bostaph was asked if it gets any easier replacing the band's original drummer, Dave Lombardo, now that he has done it several times over the course of the last couple of decades. He responded: "No, it doesn't get any easier. I think all the preparation I've done in the past, learning the material and trying really hard to be authentic as possible, I don't really need to do that now, though now there's a whole bunch of other songs I never played with the band. It never gets easy. Let's face it, Dave is one of the top drummers. It's not easy to try and emulate what he does. Just do your homework, and if you do it well, you'll be prepared."

Regarding what the major differences are about being in SLAYER now and how it was back in the early '90s, Bostaph said: "We're all a little more mature.; a little bit wiser. Some of us go to bed earlier than we used to. We don't burn the candle at both ends, and guys have families. Twenty years ago maybe they didn't, and now they've got children growing up, graduating from high school. We're not little kids anymore."

Bostaph, who was previously SLAYER's drummer from 1992 until 2001 and recorded four albums with the band, rejoined SLAYER in 2013 after Lombardo was effectively fired from the band due to a contract dispute with the other members of the veteran California-based thrash metal act.

In an interview with Fuse, SLAYER guitarist Kerry King stated about Bostaph: "Paul, I mean, he's a machine. I don't worry about him at all. He never would have been out of SLAYER if he didn't quit twice. It was never over anything personal — he was always my friend — so it was very easy for him to come back and be a part again."

Speaking to Loudwire about Bostaph's contributions to SLAYER's latest album, "Repentless", King said: "I think it's just making the unit whole, more than anything. Of course, Paul can play the shit out of the drums. I didn't realize — and I don't mean this in a detrimental way to Paul — I never realized Paul had so many niche SLAYER fans who are just Bostaph fans; I didn't realize that, and a lot of people had mentioned that to me since Paul has been working on the record. And I think that's great. I used to say 'God Hates [Us All]' was his 'Reign In Blood' — Bostaph's. The new one is his 'Reign In Blood'. The new one's… I would play any song live."

"Repentless" debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200, having shifted 50,000 equivalent album units in the week ending September 17, 2015.

MICHAEL SCHENKER To Perform With GARY BARDEN, GRAHAM BONNET, ROBIN MCAULEY At SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL

MICHAEL SCHENKER To Perform With GARY BARDEN, GRAHAM BONNET, ROBIN MCAULEY At SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL

Legendary German guitarist Michael Schenker will play a very special show, Michael Schenker Fest, at this year's Sweden Rock Festival, set to take place June 8-11 in Sölvesborg, Sweden. The concert will feature appearances by three MSG singers: Gary Barden, Graham Bonnet and Robin McAuley. They will be joined by Ted McKenna on drums, Chris Glen on bass and Steve Mann on guitar/keyboards.

Combined, these men are responsible for such albums as "Michael Schenker Group" (1980), "Assault Attack" (1982) and "Save Yourself" (1989), so fans can expect a multitude of classic tracks to be performed.

Michael Schenker will play at Sweden Rock Festival on June 11.

In a 2014 interview with Songfacts, Schenker stated about his "Assault Attack" album: "Well, 'Assault Attack' was basically the time after Gary Barden. Peter Mensch was managing me. He suggested I should have a different singer, so that's what he confronted me with. And so, who? He came up with David Coverdale and Graham Bonnet. And I decided Graham Bonnet. I think also it had to do with Cozy Powell, because he had joined the band, too, and maybe he would prefer to have a different singer. So somehow we ended up with Graham Bonnet and we did the recording with Martin Birch, who was doing IRON MAIDEN at the time. When we had our first concert in Sheffield, Graham got kind of... weird. And that was it. It was like 15 minutes of life with Graham Bonnet, and that was the end. And then two days later we had a concert in Reading, a headliner at a festival, and we asked Gary to help out. So then I carried on with Gary and I kind of slipped from Peter Mensch, and then I did a last album with Gary in '83, 'Built To Destroy', and Gary was actually not doing very well anymore. And then Chris Glen, the bass player, he kind of disappeared. I said to myself, 'It was time for something new.'"

Asked about he possibility of writing new music with Bonnet, Schenker said: "You know what? It would be interesting to see if we can put something together live, because 'Assault Attack' never got toured. It was an idea if Graham was well enough and the opportunity and the moment in time would allow something like that to happen, it would maybe be a creative thing to do. But at this point we never quite got to it."

ASKING ALEXANDRIA: Video Footage From

ASKING ALEXANDRIA: Video Footage From 'The Black' Recording Sessions

ASKING ALEXANDRIA's new album, "The Black", will be released on March 25 via Sumerian Records.

A two-and-a-half-minute video clip featuring behind-the-scenes footage from "The Black" recording sessions can be seen below.

Life is all about how quickly you get back up. In January 2015, everything changed for ASKING ALEXANDRIA. The chart- topping, gold-selling U.K. hard rock outfit parted ways with singer and founding member Danny Worsnop. On the outside, the future might've seemed uncertain — even grim — to some, but Ben Bruce (lead guitar, vocals), James Cassells (drums), Cameron Liddell (rhythm guitar) and Sam Bettley (bass) dusted themselves off, lifted their chins, and got right back up. "We hadn't reached our destination yet, and Danny had," admits Bruce. "I think it was necessary. When it happened, I was devastated. I lost my best friend. We even started referring to this part of our career as 'the black period.' It was the darkest time, but we weren't going to give up. If he hadn't left, I don't think we would've been as inspired as we were. I also don’t think ASKING ALEXANDRIA would still be around. Instead, we're more excited than ever about this band." In order to properly do that, the band actually turned to a fan. Ukrainian singer Denis Shaforostov gained notoriety posting ASKING ALEXANDRIA covers on YouTube and consequentially inked a deal with Sumerian in his band DOWN AND DIRTY. Bruce shot him an e-mail one night. The next day, a new ASKING ALEXANDRIA song had vocals and a new era in the band's history took form.

"The Black" track listing:

01. Let It Sleep02. The Black03. I Won't Give In04. Sometimes It Ends05. The Lost Souls06. Just A Slave To Rock N Roll07. Send Me Home08. We'll Be Okay09. Here I Am10. Gone11. Undivided12. Circled By The Wolves

MAX And IGOR CAVALERA To Perform

MAX And IGOR CAVALERA To Perform 'Roots' At AMNESIA ROCKFEST; SEPULTURA Also Scheduled To Appear

Former SEPULTURA members Max Cavalera (guitar, vocals) and Igor Cavalera (drums) will celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the band's classic album, "Roots", by performing the LP in its entirety at this year's edition of the Amnesia Rockfest. Interestingly enough, the current lineup of SEPULTURA — which includes the other two members of the band that played on "Roots", guitarist Andreas Kisser and bassist Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr. — is also scheduled to appear at the two-day event, which will take place June 24-25 in Montebello, Quebec, Canada.

Max spoke to Holland's FaceCulture about how he looks back on the "Roots" album twenty years later. He said: "Yeah, [the personal stuff around the band] was chaotic, but musically, it was good. I think 'Roots' is an excellent record. It's a very brave record. It's a very fearless record in terms of saying, 'We're gonna do this. No matter what people say, we're gonna do it.' And we did it. And it was a huge risk. Not many bands take that risk. And we stuck to our guns and put the album out. And I think it was a very interesting record, because I think it was the beginning of my experiences in world music, which I really love, and bringing metal… making metal different. You can combine indigenous sounds and stuff with metal and make something cool with it. So I think 'Roots' was the blueprint for all that; it was like the first one that was like that. We went to the Xavantes tribe and recorded with them. It was killer. It was an amazing experience."

Asked in a December 2013 interview with DeadRhetoric.com if he was a proponent of the down-tuned guitar approach, like Max was, around the time when bands like KORN and the DEFTONES were just beginning to take off in terms of popularity, SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser said: "At the beginning, not much. I was skeptical of the low tuning because bands like KORN or the DEFTONES, they don't have the fast pace of SEPULTURA's music. I was concerned to lose that kind of fast ability and the picking, the heavy picking on sloppy, low strings. But there are so many possibilities of using heavier-gauge strings, which give that kind of tension, and you don't lose that ability to play fast. 'Trauma Of War', the song that opens the [new SEPULTURA] album ['The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart'], it's in low tuning, but it's a very fast song, but we don't lose that kind of ability. I learned how to do deal with that, and you open a lot of worlds in music, but yeah, at the beginning I was a little skeptical."

Speaking to Live-Metal.net in 2009, Max admitted that he drew inspiration from some of the so-called early "nu metal" bands during the songwriting process for "Roots". He explained: "SEPULTURA did [take] a little bit of an influence from KORN and DEFTONES in some areas. And the funny thing is that we influenced those bands from when they started out. I talked to the KORN guys and they said they listened to 'Chaos A.D.' religiously when they started — it was like one of their favorite records. So it's kind of a 360 degrees kind of influence — back and forth."

"Roots", along with 1993's "Chaos A.D.", is considered SEPULTURA's most commercially successful release, having been certified gold in 2005 by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for U.S. shipments in excess of 500,000 copies.

In 1996, Max exited SEPULTURA after the rest of the band fired Max's wife Gloria as their manager.

Igor left SEPULTURA in June 2006 due to "artistic differences." His departure from the band came five months after he announced that he was taking a break from SEPULTURA's touring activities to spend time with his second wife and their new son (who was born in January 2006).

DIMLIGHT Releases

DIMLIGHT Releases 'Invoking The Hunter' Video

"Invoking The Hunter", the new Athina Tousia-directed video from Greek symphonic death metallers DIMLIGHT, can be seen below. The song is taken from the female-fronted band's latest album, "The Lost Chapters", which came out in February via Sliptrick Records.

According to a press release, "The Lost Chapters" "delivers death metal tracks, blended with dark symphonic elements. Aggressive guitars, pounding bass lines, sharp vocals but also deep and eerie brutal shouts. The production was made at Sound Flakes Studios and the engineer behind the solid outcome was John Mcris who was responsible for both mixing and mastering. The cover was an inspiration of the mighty Pierre Alain Durand (3MMI DESIGN)."

"The Lost Chapters" is a concept album — a novel put to music and vice versa. The story narrated in the disc is the origin story of the Egyptian goddess Hathor. Drawing inspiration from the oldest Egyptian myths, Hathor is portrayed not as a goddess of love, joy and fertility as most people today generally consider her, but as bringer of bloodshed and vengeance upon mankind who strayed from the path of the gods into blasphemy. In truth, it's an elaborate mythos of the horror/historical fantasy genre recounting the grim tale of Hathor's birth and her rampage through the lands of pre-Pharaonic Eygpt.

Before the dynasties of human / mortal Pharaohs of recorded history, the gods reigned over Egypt with Osiris at the throne. But Osiris had grown old. His skin was gradually turning into gold, his hair into lapis lazuli, his eyes into emeralds — he was turning into a statue, for that is how age affects the gods. Mortal men would no longer respect his authority or fear him for he had no more spells/words of power to maintain his former strength. So they turned from him and became blasphemers. Osiris, wishing to chastize them, uses the last of his magic to create Hathor, a newborn beautiful goddess, with one sole purpose: to chastize mankind.

During the recording sessions for "The Lost Chapters", DIMLIGHT worked with the following musicians: narrator in the album was Jean Baptiste (RANDOMAWALK); Maya (ΜEDEN AGAN) did the operatic vocals in "Clash Of Immortals" and "Fields Of Carnage"; Maria Melissanthi Routi (KINETIC) did the operatic and ethnic vocals in "Fields Of Carnage"; and Alfred Shtuni on live strings.

Italy’s NOVEMBRE Streaming New Track “Bremen”

Italy’s NOVEMBRE Streaming New Track “Bremen”

After a period of inactivity since 2007’s The Blue, which involved the departure of longstanding member Giuseppe Orlando, Novembre returns with a new set of potent and poignant tracks, effortlessly transitioning between soothing, epic, melancholy and intense, from what is one of the originators of the whole atmospheric death/doom scene. URSA will be released on April 1st via Peaceville Records. The album track “Bremen” is streaming below.

Headed by founding member and writer Carmelo Orlando, and with a reinvigorated musical alliance with Massimiliano Pagliuso, the lineup is completed by Fabio Fraschini (previously bassist on the Materia album), and David Folchitto on drums. There is also a special guest appearance from Anders Nyström of the Swedish Doom masters Katatonia, adding his own unique ‘cold’ touch to the album’s single track, “Annoluce”.

URSA was recorded at Blue Noise Studio, and PlayRec studio by Massimiliano Pagliuso, then mixed and mastered at Unisound Studios by Dan Swanö (Opeth, Katatonia, Bloodbath). Cover art comes courtesy of Travis Smith.

“Umana” lyric video:

Carmelo Orlando comments on URSA: ”This album is a very important step in my life. It got me closer to what some may call ‘maturity’. I’ve been able to delve even deeper into the chasm of the subconscious and unearth gems I didn’t think existed. Lyrically and conceptually I explored new shores. I moved my ever-inwards headlights, and for the first time I dared to point them outwards, against the squalor of this Orwellian apocalypse we’re committing towards the Earth and its sons, on a daily basis, in quasi-total indifference. The album is indeed called URSA (the acronym for “Union des Républiques Socialistes Animales”), which was the title initially chosen for the French translation of George Orwell’s masterpiece novel Animal Farm.”

URSA is available to pre-order on CD & LP at this location. Pre-orders from the Peaceville Store receive a free 3-track EP including an alternate version of “Annoluce”, plus two exclusive tracks.

The seeds of Novembre were originally planted in September 1990 in Rome, Italy. Then known as Catacomb, their early recordings of unusual gothic doom metal were to quickly gain the band interest. It was around 1993 that the band decided that a name change was in order, and Novembre was born, evolving into one of the premiere European atmospheric doom bands.

Watch out for Novembre on tour in 2016.

SCARBLADE To Release Debut Album In May Via No Remorse Records; “Die In The Night” Video Streaming

Scarblade is a Greek female-fronted heavy metal band, founded in May of 2012 in Athens as Ruthless Steel. Their debut EP, titled Die In The Night, came out in 2013, and included four tracks that can be labeled as traditional heavy metal, inspired by such classic acts as Judas Priest, Warlock, Riot and Accept.

After several live shows and two compilation appearances, in 2015 the band changed its location to Gothenburg, Sweden, and as the lineup changes followed as well, the band changed their name to Scarblade.

The debut album The Cosmic Wrath, scheduled for release on May 13th, has been produced and recorded at the Aspiotis Studio by George Aspiotis, known from cooperation with acts such as Warlord, Spitfire and King Dragon.

HATEBREED: Audio Samples Of Three New Songs From 'The Concrete Confessional'

Connecticut-based hardcore/metal masters HATEBREED will release their new album, "The Concrete Confessional", on May 13 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The follow-up to 2013's "The Divinity Of Purpose" was produced by longtime collaborator Chris "Zeuss" Harris (ROB ZOMBIE, SUICIDE SILENCE, WHITECHAPEL) and mixed by Josh Wilbur (LAMB OF GOD, MEGADETH). The artwork was created by Marcelo Vasco (SLAYER).

A two-minute trailer for HATEBREED's forthcoming tour, featuring audio samples of three songs from "The Concrete Confessional" — "A.D.", "Looking Down The Barrel Of Today" and "The Apex Within" — can be seen below.

Regarding the "The Concrete Confessional" artwork, HATEBREED vocalist Jamey Jasta said: "I think da Vinci said it best when he said painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen. Marcelo was able to capture a feeling that will accompany our musical and lyrical vision and he put together a striking piece that speaks volumes."

"The Concrete Confessional" track listing:

01. A.D.02. Looking Down The Barrel Of Today03. Seven Enemies04. In The Walls05. From Grace We've Fallen06. Us Against Us07. Something's Off08. Remember When09. Slaughtered In Their Dreams10. The Apex Within11. Walking The Knife12. Dissonance13. Serve Your Masters

In support of "The Concrete Confessional", HATEBREED will embark on a North American headlining tour. Joining them on the trek are modern metal stalwarts DEVILDRIVER, Nuclear Blast labelmates DEVIL YOU KNOW and Metal Blade recording artists ACT OF DEFIANCE (featuring former MEGADETH members Chris Broderick and Shawn Drover).

HATEBREED's last album, "The Divinity Of Purpose", sold 17,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 20 on The Billboard 200 chart.
