MATT SORUM Talks About GUNS N’ ROSES’ Use Your Illusion Albums - “Who The Fuck Is GARTH BROOKS?!”

MATT SORUM Talks About GUNS N’ ROSES’ Use Your Illusion Albums - “Who The Fuck Is GARTH BROOKS?!”

Spitfire Audio has a new 30-minute interview with drummer Matt Sorum who goes deep into the recording of Guns N’ Roses’ legendary albums Use Your Illusion I and II that were released in September of 1991.

“It was an amazing time,” Sorum remembers. “We recorded 35 songs here and the intention was to make one great record, which a lot of bands do. Then I remember Axl (Rose) telling us that we were going to put out all the songs - we're going to do a double album. But Axl came up with this incredible idea, he said ‘I want to put two volumes of one record out, with the same album cover in different colors.

The problem was a guy by the name of Garth Brooks, and when we opened up the Billboard charts, he was number one and we were number two and three. We were like ‘who the fuck is Garth Brooks?!’ The next week we topped the charts at number one and two.

And those records gave us an amazing three and a half-year run out on the road. We continued to put up videos and we stayed out on the road forever.”

Check out the chat filmed at Henson Studios in Los Angeles.

Guitarist KURDT VANDERHOOF Says METAL CHURCH Feels Like A “Real Band” Again

Metal Church will release their new album XI on March 25th via Rat Pak Records. The band’s 11th studio release also marks the return of legendary vocalist and front man Mike Howe.

Guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof posted on the band's Facebook page about how Metal Church feels like a “real band” again.

Vanderhoof writes: “I can’t begin to tell you how great it’s been having Mike Howe back!! We have great chemistry, we all love metal music, and for the first time in a very long time, it feels like (a) REAL band again! Thanks to everyone who has preordered so far!”

The new album is available for preorder in various exclusive bundles at this location. A limited number of the Deluxe International Version are available on the website and features a bonus disc of 8 extra songs. Other bundles include guitar picks, stickers, a special edition behind the scenes photo book, t-shirts and even a limited number of personal phone calls from Mike Howe himself.

The album is also available for pre-order on Amazon (link below), Google Play and via iTunes, and fans that order the digital version will receive an instant download of “Killing Your Time” from the new album. XI was produced by Kurdt Vanderhoof and co-produced by Chris “The Wizard” Collier.

From the first guitar riff of album opener “Reset” through the driving outro of album closer “Suffer Fools”, it is clear Metal Church is back and better than ever. “Needle And Suture” and “Soul Eating Machine” showcase the songwriting that made the early Mike Howe albums The Human Factor, Blessing In Disguise and Hanging In The Balance such fan favorites. Musical opuses “Signal Path” and “Sky Falls In” clock in at over 7-minutes each and put the musicianship that Metal Church was known for on full display in 2016.

DREAM THEATER - Entire New 34-Track Album The Astonishing Available For Streaming

DREAM THEATER - Entire New 34-Track Album The Astonishing Available For Streaming

Dream Theater's new album, The Astonishing,  a character-based two-act double album that tells the story of dystopian future in which only machines can create music, was released on January 29th. The band has made the entire 34-track album available for streaming; check it out below.

The Astonishing is available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard 2-CD set, 4-LP vinyl box set and a limited edition deluxe box set, all of which are currently available at this location.

Recorded at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, New York, with John Petrucci producing, studio luminary Richard Chycki (Aerosmith, Rush) engineering/mixing and legendary arranger, composer and conductor David Campbell orchestrating, The Astonishing paints a tale of a retro-futurist post-apocalyptic dystopia ruled by medieval style feudalism. It’s a place aching for a Chosen One to rise above the noise and defeat an Empire defined by the endless drone of noise machines and the illusion of safety in bland conformity.

The Astonishing follows 2013’s worldwide smash album Dream Theatrer, which earned a second Grammy nomination for the band, topping Billboard’s Hard Rock Albums while simultaneously entering at #7 on the Billboard 200. The extraordinary chart position marked the group’s third consecutive top 10 debut, and also saw Dream Theater making top 5 chart debuts in Japan, Germany, Italy, Canada, Argentina, Switzerland, Holland, and Finland, as well as top 10 debuts in Denmark, Austria, and Norway, with career high debuts in the United Kingdom and Australia.

The band comments on the artwork: “This album cover extends an ominous invitation into the retro-futurist dystopian setting of The Astonishing. The deceptively beautiful yet chillingly totalitarian image is a bold harbinger of the visual components and ideas presented by the sonic story that is our most ambitious creative work to date. We are very proud to soon bring you…The Astonishing.”

PHILIP ANSELMO Says He Is

PHILIP ANSELMO Says He Is 'A Thousand Percent Apologetic,' Asks For 'Another Chance'

Former PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo has apologized for the apparent "white power" gesture he made onstage after his appearance at Dimebash last week.

Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic "Walk" at the January 22 event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, California in honor of his late bandmate "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. As he left the stage, he made a Nazi-style salute. He appeared to say "white power" as he made the gesture, but he later claimed he was referring to drinking white wine as part of an "inside joke."

Several notable musicians have since come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, including MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a "big bully" and described Philip's behavior as "fucking wrong."

Now Anselmo has released a video message, admitting that he "deserves completely" the "heat" that he has been getting over his actions and saying that he is "thousand percent apologetic to anyone that took offense to what [he] said."

Anselmo's statement in full (see video below):

"Philip H. Anselmo here, and I'm here to, basically, respond to all the heat I've been getting that I deserve completely. I was at the Dimebash and it was extremely late at night [and] there was heavy-duty talk between myself and those who love Dime. And heavy emotions were flowing, jokes were made backstage that transpired upon the stage, and it was ugly, it was uncalled for. And anyone who knows me and my true nature knows that I don't believe in any of that; I don't wanna be part of any group. I'm an individual and…

"I am a thousand percent apologetic to anyone that took offense to what I said, because you should have taken offense to what I said. And I am so sorry, and I hope you just… Man, give me another chance to… Just give me another chance. I love all of you. And anyone who's met me, anyone who knows me knows that I love all of you. Bless you."

Ex-MACHINE HEAD Drummer Says ROBB FLYNN And PHILIP ANSELMO Are Both

Ex-MACHINE HEAD Drummer Says ROBB FLYNN And PHILIP ANSELMO Are Both 'Dumbass Self-Centered Blowhards'

Former MACHINE HEAD drummer Chris Kontos has slammed Robb Flynn and Philip Anselmo in the aftermath of last week's incident when the ex-PANTERA singer made a "white power" gesture onstage at a concert.

Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic "Walk" at the January 22 "Dimebash" event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, California in honor of his former bandmate, late PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. As he left the stage, he made a Nazi-style salute. He appeared to say "white power" as he made the gesture, but he later claimed he was referring to drinking white wine as part of an "inside joke." Anselmo has since released a video message, saying that he "deserves completely" the "heat" that he has been getting over his actions and claiming to be "a thousand percent apologetic to anyone that took offense to what [he] said."

Several notable musicians have come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, including Flynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a "big bully" and described Philip's behavior as "fucking wrong."

Now Kontos has stepped forward to offer his opinion on the matter, saying that both Flynn and Anselmo are "fucking dumbass self-centered blowhards" who "seem to be full of crap."

In a public post on his Facebook page, Kontos writes (slightly edited for clarity): "Sorry, Phil, but this is the end. I knew I saw this photo of you backstage with the white wine in your hands before you went on stage at Dimebash and processed to shout 'White Power' at the top of your shattered voice and gave the Nazi salute TWICE!. Your stupidity and racism once again has collided in your mouth and then into the world via your microphone. I knew I saw this picture with the wine...when I read your flippant and weak statement about how it was a joke about drinking white wine backstage I was fucking disgusted and dismayed at your stupidity on levels I have no words for. I bet you DID mean it as a joke...because you are flat-out dumb-as-a-stump racist, I bet this would be funny to you.

"There is the 'White Power Wine' right there in your hands. People are saying (Robb Flynn) that NO white wine was backstage at Dimebash...well, there it is. Not Beck's beer... I saw this photo the day of the show...and thought to myself how nice to see you and Rita [Haney, Dimebag's longtime girlfriend and one of the Dimebash organizers] toasting Dime ('the Pink beard in the sky,' as it said in the caption below it) before the show. Well, after seeing the vid clip of your dumb ass and then reading your statement, I remembered the photo. Still, you have to be crazy or just so out of touch with the world and are completely racist to think that a joke would be fun OR a way to honor Dime... or is there more to the story we just don't know about PANTERA and how the band really feels about racism?

"Then I watched Robb Flynn's response to the whole thing...and I must say he was well spoken and shared true feelings. He said that he had spoken with Phil that night and that Phil said to him 'I hated the 'n*gger era' of MACHINE HEAD...every minute of it...with that look' and Robb said that he laughed In Phil's face... really?

"Now, if Phil had said that shit to me before I was to go back him musically... no fucking way would I get on stage and perform with the guy. I'll tell you that much. Phil may be big and badass with his mits and all...but I would have had a fucking straightener with Phil right then and there, trust every bit of 6' 227 lbs of jiu-jitsu drum-crushing BMX smashing me on that... Bullies don't faze me...

"That brings me to this point... It also made me think about my post about the MACHINE HEAD stage dressing these days... and how Nuremberg Nazi Rally it really is.

"Words and imagery are very strong forces. The messages you send or speak make a huge impact on the world. I was not going to say anything, but then I felt a strong feeling of duty to make a statement as I have stood AGAINST racists and nationalist hate movements my whole adult life. These two guys leave me baffled as they both seem to be full of crap.

"I respect Robb for admitting using the word n*gger... but he is not thinking or maybe just too stupid himself to think about the truly anti-Semitic and Nazi messages his stage show sends to world and Jews as well as Holocaust survivors and their families. I find the whole thing very disturbing and I have to question why, if Robb knew about how Phil is and his views on race and the comments made before going on stage, then why he would still play up there.... Was playing with Dave [Grohl] and Robert [Trujillo] that big a deal that you would turn a blind eye to the fact you know this info and insight on Phil so you could get in on some kind of 'I'm big like these guys too' kind of thing?

"I think you are an opportunist and are full of shit.

"I'm of mud race and proud of it.

"I think that we ALL do better when we all do BETTER in this life.

"So sorry but you both are fucking dumbass self-centered blowhards.... both of you have your foot in your mouth right now in my book."

Kontos played on MACHINE HEAD's debut album, 1994's "Burn My Eyes", before being replaced by Dave McClain.

DIMEBAG

DIMEBAG's Girlfriend Accuses ROBB FLYNN Of 'Masking His Real Problem' In Wake Of 'White Power' Uproar

Late PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott's longtime girlfriend Rita Haney has blasted MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn for taking "a hideous opportunity to hop up on a soap box" after ex-PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo made a "white power" gesture onstage at a concert last week.

Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic "Walk" at the January 22 "Dimebash" event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, California in honor of Dimebag.

Now Haney, who was involved in organizing this year's "Dimebash", has come out in support of Anselmo, saying that "Philip has owned his mistake" and accusing Flynn of "mask[ing his] real problem with something very important and very serious."

Haney's entire statement follows (slightly edited for clarity):

"So to answer all of you that have asked, and for those who didn't, read if you like, but if not, don't…

"I think there is really only one thing to say when a man apologizes: 'Thank you for acknowledging you were wrong.' The one apology I am missing is the one from Mr. Flynn.

"You took a 'hideous' opportunity to hop up on a soap box because you were butthurt about your personal encounters with Philip that night. You sent me a text message about it in the wee hours of the morning, and it did not have anything to do with racism.

"I support the message you were trying to put out there, but not the method behind your message… You masked your real problem with something very important and very serious.

"You said to me, 'What would Darrell do?' He would have done exactly what was right… Speak to Philip man to man (like you described you witnessed at one time)… Not jump up in the press and hurt their music, our whole family and organization.

"The last time I checked, PANTERA was not one man. Rex [Brown, bass], Vinnie [Paul Abbott, drums], and Darrell brought us that music too… Now Philip has owned his mistake.

"Things ARE different today with racism and reverse racism. And you were not just dropping 'bombs' in your 20s. You weren't calling the kettle 'black' not too long ago, just as I have been guilty of myself!!!

"There was wine along with many other bottles. There was lots of joking around about Dave Chapelle with one of our best friends, Dug Pinnick [of KING'S X] and there were emotions that no one could understand, or experience about Darrell, that only his brother, Philip and Rex understand.

"It is a very heavy situation when any of us come together… Indulging happens... None of these things can excuse that behavior though. But what happened on the stage was regretfully felt by one man…

"All jokes aside and on a serious note… As far as the two words and gestures are concerned, on such an amazing and beautiful night… NO!!! I do NOT condone these actions. I believe their origins are barbarically hideous and embarrassing.

"I have accepted Philip's apology as I want a better world to live in.

"The message is a 'true' message, Robb, but sadly your method was not."

She added in a separate post: "I am upset at Robb for including PANTERA and their music as a whole. And should I receive an apology? Well, I guess it depends on what it's for and if it has a true method behind it.

"Thank you, though. I have faith in both men. We shall see. I think they can both stand a harsh learning of their ABCs — Action, Behavior and Consequences."

ALL SHALL PERISH: PHILIP ANSELMO

ALL SHALL PERISH: PHILIP ANSELMO's 'Actions Are A Stain On The Legacy Of PANTERA'

Oakland, California-based extreme metallers ALL SHALL PERISH have called out Philip Anselmo for the apparent "white power" gesture the ex-PANTERA singer made onstage after his appearance at Dimebash last week.

ALL SHALL PERISH has released the following statement regarding the incident:

"We consider PANTERA to be the single greatest metal band of all time, but we should never be afraid to call out our heroes.

"Seeing Phil's actions and his cowardly justification is not only disgusting and inexcusable but antithetical to the punk, metal, underground ethos to which we subscribe.

"No gods, No masters, and certainly no master race.

"Any justifications or cries of 'reverse racism,' BET, double standards, PC police, or general white whining are just profoundly ignorant of history, systemic effects, and the lasting impact of state sponsored racism, Jim Crow, segregation and slavery.

"Talk with your black friends, if you have any, and try to gain some perspective.

"There has never, nor will ever, be a true incarnation of 'reverse racism' until white people are swinging from trees en mass, sold into torture, defined in the constitution as three-fifths a person, denied from public institutions and forcibly segregated from society.

"In the face of what an actual tit-for-tat reprisal would look like, affirmative action and understanding the significance and context of displaying black pride seem the least the multi-generational benefactors of being the master race can muster.

"Racism and its institutions are a stain on American culture; likewise, Phil's actions are a stain on the legacy of PANTERA, Dime's memory and the metal community as a whole."

ALL SHALL PERISH co-founders Matt Kuykendall (drums), Ben Orum (guitar), and Caysen Russo (guitar) have rejoined forces with vocalist Hernan "Eddie" Hermida and guitarist Chris Storey in the revamped version of the band, which is currently working on new music.

DARKEST HOUR Guitarist On PHILIP ANSELMO

DARKEST HOUR Guitarist On PHILIP ANSELMO's 'White Power' Gesture: 'Racism Has No Place In Metal'

Guitarist Mike Schleibaum of Washington D.C. metallers DARKEST HOUR has joined MACHINE HEAD's Robb Flynn in criticizing Philip Anselmo for the apparent "white power" gesture the ex-PANTERA singer made onstage after his appearance at Dimebash last week.

Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic "Walk" at the January 22 event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, California in honor of his late bandmate "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. As he left the stage, he made a Nazi-style salute. He appears to say "white power" as he made the gesture, but he later claimed he was referring to drinking white wine as part of an "inside joke."

Earlier today, Flynn, who performed at Dimebash alongside Anselmo and a number of other notable musicians, uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a "big bully" and described Philip's actions as "fucking wrong."

Now Schleibaum has released a message of support for Flynn, saying that "racism has no place in metal."

The guitarist wrote on the DARKEST HOUR Facebook page: "It's a video like [Robb's] that reminds me to say it was an honor to have toured with MACHINE HEAD.

"Robb is both brutality honest and totally on point in this video.

"I know that most of the world would watch this video and say, 'Who the fuck gives a shit?' but PANTERA meant a lot to me, music means a lot to me, and heavy metal is my life. So this is like sort of in my backyard.

"I have nothing to add only to echo Robb and the band's sentiment.

"I'm not the moral police. We pride ourselves in the fact that we have many different friends and fans who feel differently about a wide range of subjects... but racism has no place in metal to me. Metal / punk / hardcore / whateverthefuckyoucallit should be unifying.

"It's a shame to type these words as I am sure most of us know better.

"Honesty and sincerity in music nowadays is hard to find.

"Cheers to Robb for keeping it 100%. I'm going to crank up some MACHINE HEAD!"

MACHINE HEAD

MACHINE HEAD's ROBB FLYNN Slams 'Big Bully' PHILIP ANSELMO Over 'White Power' Gesture

MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn has released a video message criticizing Philip Anselmo for the apparent "white power" gesture the ex-PANTERA singer made onstage after his appearance at Dimebash last week.

Flynn, who performed at Dimebash alongside Anselmo and a number of other notable musicians, has uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a "big bully" and described Philip's actions as "fucking wrong."

A BLABBERMOUTH.NET transcript of Flynn's entire video message — which can be seen below — follows.

"And there you have it. The final words of 'Dimebash 2016': 'White Power'. Which was apparently just a joke, because they were drinking white wine backstage. [Laughs] Get it? White wine, white power. 'We were listening to 'White Christmas backstage, so I decided to throw out 'White Power.'' [Laughs]

"I was there, and I can tell you for a fact that there was not a Chardonnay or a Pinot Grigio in sight backstage. In fact, the only thing that you were drinking, Phil Anselmo, was Beck's — German beer. Maybe that's where the joke came from, huh? Get it? German beer. White power. Fucking hysterical stuff there.

"First of all, I would like to applaud Chris R, the courageous YouTuber who put up the inflammatory actions up on YouTube after originally editing them out when he put up his initial version of 'Walk' on YouTube.

"I can understand why you edited it out, Chris R, because, really, it was almost too much to believe, wasn't it? That this shouldn't somehow be seen. Thankfully, you decided to do the right thing and you put it up, knowing full well that you were going to get the wrath of the metal community. And you have. Over a thousand comments on your YouTube page. Five hundred comments on Blabbermouth. They shut down the comments page. Same with MetalSucks, who wrote a very poignant statement about not letting Phil Anselmo off the hook anymore.

[Editor's note: For the record, the BLABBERMOUTH.NET comments section for the article in question was never shut down.]

"And, you know, the crazy thing is that out of all the things that are being said, the majority of people are just, like, 'Oh, give him a bro. Here comes the PC police now and social-justice team.' And, 'You all just need to thicken your skin and stop being such pussies when somebody screams out 'white power' and 'sieg heils.'' 'Liberal this' [and] 'liberal that.'

"Only in the metal community is something like this so, so brushed off. If this was Chad from NICKELBACK, if this was Justin Bieber, if this was Tom Brady, if this was Lars fucking Ulrich, heads would roll. Holy shit! The goddamn shitstorm that would fly around if Lars Ulrich screamed 'White Power' from the stage. Or, shit, maybe he'd get a bunch of supporters: 'Good for you, dude! White pride!' And all the same silly arguments: 'Why is it okay for a black man to say, 'black pride,' but it's not okay for a white man to say 'white pride'?'

"Well, for one, in case you need a little brush-up on history, white men aren't oppressed by black people here in America. Black people have had a long history not just of slavery, but of a national, state-wise, city-wide, county-wide, neighborhood-wide level of oppression.

"I can tell you, seeing it myself, living in Northern California, I bought my second house, which I've since had to short-sell and now rent, but when I bought my second house, right there on the contract from a house that was built in the 1950s, it said, 'No Negroes shall live in this house or this neighborhood.' This is in a city called Pleasant Hill. [Laughs] But I guess back in the '50s, it wasn't so pleasant if you were a black man or a black woman. And that's the difference.

"You know, I'm not gonna go into the history of racism and black people getting sold by Africans, by their own… But I'm talking about in our lifetime — forty, fifty years now.

"No white person has been oppressed by black people. Quite the contrary. And it's not okay to scream out 'white power' and then brush it off as a fucking joke about white wine, especially when there was none.

"You know, the fact of the matter is, I was there at Dimebash [and] had a great time. [I] jammed with Dave Grohl, hung out with Zakk Wylde, Robert Trujillo, Dave Lombardo… It was a great vibe. And upon going backstage, I bumped into Phil and decided to strike up a short conversation as we were gonna play a couple of PANTERA songs together — I having toured with PANTERA back in 1997… twice. Within thirty seconds of sitting down and talking to him, his drunk ass decided to let me know in no uncertain terms that he hated the 'n*gger' era of MACHINE HEAD, referring to our third album, 'The Burning Red'. He hated every second of it. Hated it with a passion. The stupid look. [Laughs] I just laughed… in his face. I laughed in his face. I went, 'You are gonna sit there and judge me for the way I looked back in the day? For the music I was making back in the day?' Pot… meet… kettle.

"You know, the thing that's amazing about this is that we're all scared to say anything. Chris R was scared to put that video up. I am scared to put this video out. Because we all sit there and look at ourselves, and it reminds us of every time we've ever said the word 'n*gger.' And I have said the word 'n*gger' before. I was jumped by fifteen black guys. I was angry for a while. But, you know, that was in my twenties, and at some point along this journey of life, you change.

"You know, this has opened up a huge discussion within the band as to whether I should even respond to this or not. And the reason I feel so strongly about responding is 'cause I had to stand on fucking stage with you [referring to Anselmo]. And granted, I wasn't on that stage anymore when you said all that stupid shit. No, I was only on stage when we were playing 'A New Level' and you were 'sieg heiling' after [the words in the song's chorus] 'and power' — like you've done forever now. Like you've done forever now. And nobody calls you on it. No bands call you on it.

"I've talked to people on so many tours: 'Yeah, Anselmo is up there 'sieg heiling' and mouthing the words 'white power.'' 'Why don't you call him on it?' 'Oh, 'cause I love PANTERA, man. And who wants to start shit with him?' Exactly. Who wants to start shit with you?

"You're a big bully. A big, scary dude. But… enough's enough. Enough's enough.

"Now, I haven't felt connected to the metal community for quite some time now. I don't get it. I don't get how this kind of shit is tolerated. I don't get how this shit is even blown off as acceptable, brushed off as acceptable.

"You know, do I think we should go and lynch Phil Anselmo and fucking call for his head? No. You're more than welcome to say all of that shit. You live in America. Freedom of speech. You're free to say 'white power' and 'sieg heil' all you want. But that freedom of speech doesn't allow you freedom from the criticism of that speech. Because that shit's wrong. It's fucking wrong. And for somebody to sit there and go, 'Oh, if you were offended by this… blah blah blah.' If you weren't offended by that, fuck you. Fuck you! Fuck you!

"There's no place for that in metal. And if there is a place for that in metal, count me out.

"Goodbye, Phil Anselmo. I'll never be playing another PANTERA song again as long as I live. And to the metal community that backs this bullshit, see you later. Count me out. I want no part of this anymore."

Commenting on a YouTube video of the incident, Anselmo, posting under the username of his label Housecore Records, said: "Ok folks, I'll own this one, but dammit, I was joking, and the inside joke of the night was because we were drinking fucking white wine, hahaha — of all fucking things.

"Some of y'all need to thicken up your skin. There's plenty of fuckers to pick on with a more realistic agenda. I fucking love everyone, I fucking loathe everyone, and that's that. No apologies from me."

Proceeds from the Dimebash event will go to the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund.

Official ZZ TOP Documentary To Be Produced By BANGER FILMS

Official ZZ TOP Documentary To Be Produced By BANGER FILMS

Banger Films, in association with Eagle Rock Entertainment, is set to produce the first-ever feature length documentary exploring the fascinating, mysterious tale of Texas band ZZ TOP. The filmmakers, Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn, are calling out to fans for help finding rare photos, videos, and audio to tell the story. “We're big admirers of ZZ TOP, so we're thrilled to be working on this film. ZZ TOP is rock's longest-standing power trio and have influenced legions of rock, pop and country artists, but there's very little archival material documenting this band's past. So we need their fans to help us out!" says Dunn. ZZ TOP's Billy F Gibbons noted: "We're excited that Banger Films have undertaken the challenge setting the ZZ TOP story into motion. The band is enthusiastic about the effort. Yes, it's going to be a fact-based documentary yet considering the subject matter, we expect there to be a continuing element of the band's infamous surrealism." ZZ TOP — guitarist Gibbons, Dusty Hill on bass and drummer Frank Beard — ascended the rock ladder through a combination of infectious boogie-blues riffs, restless experimentation, and blistering live shows to become one of the most celebrated and successful bands of all time. And yet for many music fans they remain a mystery. In the 1980s, when the group was at the top of the MTV heap, with fur-lined guitars, foot-long beards, a bevy of babes, and selling upwards of twenty million records, they remained shrouded in a gumbo of conjecture, folklore, and downright leg pulling. As 2016 dawns, with the band still beloved by fans and musicians alike, ZZ TOP's story remains untold — until now.

Leveraging on Banger Films' own trailblazing documentaries, "Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage" and "Super Duper Alice Cooper", the yet-to-be-titled ZZ TOP documentary will be an unblinkered, uninhibited film featuring the band, their friends and intimates — stuffed with unseen footage and photos and never-before-heard audio tracks, detailing the band's history. Viewers will witness the extraordinary story of three friends, each musical purists and master bluesmen on a lifelong mission to show music lovers a Texas-style good time. As Banger FIlms digs deep into the vaults, the filmmakers are calling on fans to do the same by giving fans and collectors alike the opportunity to send descriptions of their ZZ TOP footage, photos and audio to: [email protected]
/* */ with the subject "ZZ Top Fan Submission."

SEBASTIAN BACH:

SEBASTIAN BACH: 'People Who Say 'White Power' Are Pussies'

Former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach has chimed in on the debate surrounding last week's incident when ex-PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo made a "white power" gesture onstage at a concert.

Several notable musicians have come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, including MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a "big bully" and described Philip's behavior as "fucking wrong."

Now Bach has offered his two cents, tweeting: "Rock is supposed 2B fun. Perverting music N2 hate? NOT fun. People who say White Power are PUSSIES. As r those who agree. Or remain silent"

Back in 2004, Bach stated about his SKID ROW's first North American headlining tour, which featured PANTERA as the support act: "As a metalhead first and foremost myself, it was an absolute dream to stand on the side of the stage every night witnessing PANTERA's rise to fame, night after night, city after city. To have those crazy fuckers as my friends was something I will never forget.

"A month or so into the tour, PANTERA released 'A Vulgar Display Of Power'. Prior to this, the band was touring with us without a new album to support. But when 'Vulgar' came out after touring the USA with us for a month or so, the album came straight into the Billboard charts in the Top 40 and remains to this day one of the greatest albums of all time. The day after it came into the charts, we were playing Vancouver and Phil walked straight into our dressing room [and said], 'Hey, Bierk. I want a leather couch, full lights, full stage, sound check, blah blah blah.' He was joking around with a list of demands due to the 'new level' that he was now on. It was hilarious and we were all laughing, but the point was made. PANTERA was now a big fucking band and from here on out, it was nothing but onward and upward for PANTERA."

Rock is supposed 2B fun. Perverting music N2 hate? NOT fun. People who say White Power are PUSSIES. As r those who agree. Or remain silent🖕🏿

MOTÖRHEAD

MOTÖRHEAD's MIKKEY DEE On LEMMY: 'He Was Such A Legit, Real, F**king True Rock Dude'

Vintage Rock's Junkman conducted an interview with MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee on January 22 at the NAMM show in Anaheim, California. You can now watch the chat below (captured and edited by Tom Riehl of Unriehl Productions).

Speaking about the reaction from the rock community to the recent passing of MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister, Dee said: "It's more than unbelievable. I figured the day he said goodbye that it would be insane, but he left a much, much bigger hole in the music business and in everybody's rock heart, you know."

He continued: "He was such a legit, real, fucking true rock dude. There wasn't a fake bone in his body, which is unbelievable. I never met anybody like him.

"I had the pleasure of playing with him and knowing him very, very well, so I'm very honored."

Mikkey added: "I'm kind of happy, because he had a great life. He achieved so much. I think he could have stayed another ten, fifteen years on the planet, but, you know, he did it his way. He never compromised his beliefs in music or life. And he was a simple man. He was unbelievable."

Dee also reiterated the fact that he was always treated with respect by his late bandmate. He said: "We were brothers, you know. There was no [separation between] Lemmy and me and Phil [Campbell, MOTÖRHEAD guitarist] or… It was the three of us. We were the family."

He went on to say: "It's a big, big, big loss — personally and professionally — for the whole world. But, as I said at his funeral service, I had the pleasure and enjoyment of playing and hanging with this guy for such a long time that I feel more sorry for the rest of the world that never got to know him the way I knew him."

Lemmy, who celebrated his 70th birthday on Christmas Eve (December 24), learned two days later that he was afflicted with an aggressive form of cancer. He died two days later, on December 28, at his home in Los Angeles.

The MOTÖRHEAD frontman had dealt with several health issues over the past few years, including heart trouble, forcing him to cut back on his famous smoking and Jack Daniels habits.

The band was forced to cancel a number of shows last year, although they did manage to complete one final European tour on December 11.

BLACK SABBATH: Video Footage Of Entire Minneapolis Concert

BLACK SABBATH: Video Footage Of Entire Minneapolis Concert

Fan-filmed video footage of BLACK SABBATH's entire January 25 concert at Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota can be seen below.

The band's setlist was as follows:

01. Black Sabbath02. Fairies Wear Boots03. After Forever04. Into The Void05. Snowblind06. War Pigs07. Behind The Wall Of Sleep08. N.I.B.09. Hand Of Doom10. Rat Salad11. Iron Man12. God Is Dead?13. Under The Sun/Every Day Comes And Goes14. Dirty Woman15. Paranoid

Encore:

16. Children Of The Grave

BLACK SABBATH bassist Geezer Butler told Radio.com in a recent interview that the band was planning to ditch some of the newer songs to bring back some classics for "The End" tour. "We're going back to do almost all of the 'Paranoid' album, apart from 'Planet Caravan'," he said, explaining that "We could do it, but it wouldn't work live. It would sound weird during a SABBATH set. It works on an album, but it isn't great live. There's a couple of other songs that we haven't done for a long time."

Asked which songs they were referring to, singer Ozzy Osbourne said: "'After Forever' and a few others. People have written in and asked us for other songs. The one thing about having a lot of records is not everybody likes the same songs. If we did what everybody suggested we do in the set, we'd be there for fucking three weeks!"

The first U.S. leg of "The End" tour will end on February 27 in New York City. Dates in Australia and New Zealand have been confirmed for April, with European festival shows taking place during the summer.

Regarding "The End" being SABBATH's final tour, guitarist Tony Iommi said: "It's gonna hard at the end to sort of suddenly say, 'That's it,' but it has to come one day. But we're gonna enjoy it until then."

BLACK SABBATH recently revealed that it is selling a new limited-edition CD titled "The End" at the shows on its farewell tour. The disc features four previously unheard studio tracks left off the band's 2013 reunion album, "13", as well as live versions of four songs from the world tour the band did in support of that disc.

The four studio cuts are "Season Of The Dead", "Cry All Night", "Take Me Home" and "Isolated Man". They feature drums by Brad Wilk.

The live tracks, with drumming from Tommy Clufetos, are "God Is Dead?", "Under The Sun", "End Of The Beginning" and "Age Of Reason". The live cuts were recorded in Sydney, Australia, Auckland, New Zealand and Hamilton, Ontario.

Wilk and Clufetos had to get involved after founding SABBATH drummer Bill Ward withdrew from the reunion after initially agreeing to participate in it.

"13", the first SABBATH full-length studio album in 35 years to feature original members Butler, Iommi and Osbourne, also became SABBATH's first No. 1 album in the U.S. when it was released in June 2013. The band abandoned plans for a follow-up after deciding that the current trek would be its last.

ETERNITY’S END Sign With Power Prog Records; Details Of Debut The Fire Within Released, Title Track Streaming

ETERNITY’S END Sign With Power Prog Records; Details Of Debut The Fire Within Released, Title Track Streaming

Power Prog has announced the signing of the brand new international progressive power metal blast Eternity's End. The first common goal of this cooperation is the worldwide release of their debut long player The Fire Within on March 25 as CD, download card, as digital download and stream via all major platforms.

Eternity's End is the realization of a vision that Christian Muenzner, well known in his capacity as guitarist extraordinaire, solo artist, special guest on many albums and as member of bands like Alkaloid, Necrophagist, Obscura and Paradox, had since many years of forming his very own band in order to return to the style of music that was his first love and, to this day, is his biggest passion ... Aggressive, neoclassical power metal with a progressive twist and with a powerful and classic metal vocalist. And at end of 2013, he set out to make this vision into reality and started to write on matching song material.

With bass player Linus Klausenitzer (Obscura, Alkaloid) and drummer Hannes Grossmann (Alkaloid, Blotted Science, solo, ex-Necrophagist, ex-Obscura), the rhythm section was quickly found and with virtuoso Jimmy Pitts (The Fractured Dimension, Spastic Ink), a blessed with talent keyboardist has been obliged. After checking out several different singers, the right man for this sophisticated act of defiance was found at the beginning of 2015 in Ian Parry, who is best known for his stunning work with Elegy, Ayeron, Consortium Project and who also has released a couple of solo albums. A high-profile band was complete and ready to strike.

The Fire Within was recorded between January and April, co-produced, mixed and mastered by award winning producer Per Nilsson (also known in the whole metal scene as guitar player and producer of Swedish melodic death metal institution Scar Symmetry), who gave the disc the finishing touch. A press release says: “So what you may expect? A majestic and heavy power metal album, filled to the brim with heavy riffs, neo-classical chord progressions, gifted vocals, big choirs, guitar and keyboard solos at their best, big orchestrations and epic melodies. In short: A new star will rise on neo-classical progressive power metal's heaven! With this debut album, Eternity’s End will for sure have a lasting influence on a musical genre.”

GAME OVER Announce New Album Crimes Against Reality

GAME OVER Announce New Album Crimes Against Reality

Crimes Against Reality is the third album for Game Over, one of the most promising up and coming bands in the European metal scene. It follows Burst Into The Quiet, which put Game Over on the map and displayed their massive potential. Inspired by the classic Bay Area thrash metal scene of the '80s, Game Over mix those influences with modern sounds and a very distinctive personality.

Crimes Against Reality contains ten new tracks that mix sharp riffs, anthemic choruses and powerful rhythms, enriched by the use of unusual instruments such as Moogs and Hammonds. Lyrics vary from B-movie scenarios to social-political themes, science fiction, mythology and dystopian visions.

The album has been recorded by Simone Mularoni (DGM) at Domination Studio in San Marino. Cover artwork was handled by acclaimed artist Mario E. Lopez (Evil Invaders, Impalers, Hyades). It will be released on April 15th on Scarlet Records. Soon after the album release the band will embark in an extensive world tour, with dates in America in April, and European & Japan later this year.

DEATHKINGS Streaming New Track “The Storm”; Spring Tour Announced

DEATHKINGS Streaming New Track “The Storm”; Spring Tour Announced

Los Angeles based experimental/doom/rock group, Deathkings, will release their second full length album, All That Is Beautiful, on March 18th.  The album track “The Storm” is now streaming below.

In the wake of their debut album, Destroyer, as well as the recent vinyl 7" split with Rozamov through Midnite Collective, Deathkings descended upon listeners with their bleak, yet enlightening look at the world around them. This state of unrest was developed and channeled into aural and material form with the help of Derek Donley (Bereft, Gravitron, National Sunday Law, You Big Ox, Pigeonwing, Intronaut) at his Ox Cave Studios in Los Angeles. With Donley at the helm, the band steers the listener through the blending of drowning, desperate rage blended with tranquil  undertones.

All That Is Beautiful was finished in early 2014 at Donley's Ox Cave Studios. Uniting with the Midnite Collective for the third time, both entities have grouped to carefully craft a visually stunning package, deserving of the music contained therein. The band will unleash aural and visual ruin via digital. CD. cassette tape and vinyl (later in the year) releases starting this spring harvest, 2016.

Tracklisting:

“Sol Invictus”
“The Storm”
“The Road To Awe”
“Dakhma”

BLACK SABBATH's Edmonton, Calgary Concerts Postponed Due To OZZY OSBOURNE Illness

BLACK SABBATH canceled its concert Saturday night (January 30) at the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada just two hours before the sold-out "The End" tour show was supposed to start. Messages on the band’s official Twitter and Facebook feeds read: "Due to extreme sinusitis with Ozzy Osbourne, the shows in both Edmonton and Calgary [on February 1 at the Scotiabank Saddledome] have been postponed. Details regarding rescheduled dates will be announced as soon as they are available."

On social media, the band said tickets will be honored for when they return, while Live Nation noted: "Details on the date of the rescheduled show will be posted as soon as we have it confirmed."

Pauline Hughes, entertainment marketing manager at Rexall Place, said: "Nothing's cancelled — we're working on new dates. Hopefully we should have those tomorrow or Monday. If that date doesn't work out for people, I'm sure the band will work it out. Right now there's no refunds or anything until we announce a new date."

The first U.S. leg of "The End" tour will end on February 27 in New York City. Dates in Australia and New Zealand have been confirmed for April, with European festival shows taking place during the summer.

The band previously released a playthrough video of the first single from Phenotype, entitled “New Horizons”. The sextet offer modern metal at its finest and have done so for over a decade now. No fashionable compromises, no 'fast food music'. “New Horizons” stands for the last five years the band has faced and above all the future of Textures. It’s an honest, catchy and boisterous metal track longing to be played at steaming festival grounds.

“New Horizons” playthrough video:

Check out the lyric video for ”New Horizons" below:

The new virtuosos Uri Dijk (synth) and Joe Tal (guitar) deliver a new, harmonic vibe to the mature Textures sound. Genotype, which will be released a year later - is a 45-minute long conceptual track. The root material, Phenotype consists of, is presented in this song, but in a totally different context. Textures go out-of-the-box. More proggy, more atmosphere and lots of extra layers to fill the last gaps left in this extensive, double rollercoaster ride.

In support of Phenotype, Textures will hit the European stages in February.

Queen guitarist Brian May has recently given frontman Nathan James, bassist Colin Parkinson, drummer Phil Beaver and guitarists Will Taylor and Andreas Zata Eriksson his seal of approval after hearing some of the band's material. He said: "You guys really do look like a potent young Deep Purple but with a new slant - very classic! And the musicianship is stunning. Good luck with it all - I'm sure you will do great. Video: Ex-SLAYER Drummer DAVE LOMBARDO Plays LED ZEPPELIN

Video: Ex-SLAYER Drummer DAVE LOMBARDO Plays LED ZEPPELIN's 'Whole Lotta Love' At 'Bonzo Bash'

Sick Drummer Magazine has uploaded drum-cam footage of former SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo performing the LED ZEPPELIN classic "Whole Lotta Love" at this year's Bonzo Bash on January 22 at M3 Live in Anaheim, California. Check it out below.

Asked if Bonham was an early inspiration on his playing, Lombardo told The Nervous Breakdown: "He showed me groove. He showed me dynamic by listening to his playing."

He continued: "When they played, it elevated. Although the tempo didn't build, there was something in the playing that just made it come up, and you're feeling, 'Oh man, that feels great,' and then they bring it down and groovy."

Lombardo added: "I don't know, I think I feel music more than a lot of people do. You know, it's how you hit the drum. It's not the execution of the hit. It's not how many paradiddles you can do or how fast you can do it, it's how you execute the beat."

Back in 2014, Lombardo compared SLAYER without him to LED ZEPPELIN losing John Bonham, saying that a "certain magic" is clearly missing. He told the "Let There Be Talk" podcast: "I appreciate the nucleus of the band. Like [John] Bonham. When Bonham was part of [LED] ZEPPELIN. When his son [Jason] took over, oh my God. C'mon. Really? I have respect for Jason and for what he's done, but when he put a double-bass pedal on a single bass drum, that just blew it for me. It's, like, 'Really, dude? Your dad was about single bass.'"

He continued: "There is a certain magic — just like with SLAYER, just like with AC/DC with Bon Scott — there's a certain magic when you have those musicians and nobody could replace that. Nobody. That's it. You can't. Yeah, SLAYER's new drummer [Paul Bostaph], yeah, a lot of fans like him. But there's that magic. It's chemistry. It's like when you meet a girl and you two get along really well, and it's like a chemistry; it's something special. Same thing with the band: you get these four guys, [and] they may hate each other, but on stage, there's magic. And that's what's missing, I personally believe."

Says ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante: "The cover art for this record is again done by Alex Ross, who is probably one of the greatest artists living. And he did our previous covers."

He continues: "My idea for this one was to show this hall and these huge statues of these kings — who, of course, are us — and trying to tie in the last album cover with these creatures who are drawn into this room with our ANTHRAX 'A.' This one, you'll see those creatures in this hall kind of trying to reach up at these kings. We tried to tie in the last two album covers with this album cover. And when you see it, it's beautiful. It's grandiose. It just has this beautiful look to it. And, yeah, it's gonna be a great album cover."

Beginning in the fall of 2014, ANTHRAX — Charlie Benante (drums), Scott Ian (rhythm guitar), Frank Bello (bass), Joey Belladonna (vocals), and lead guitarist Jon Donais — took their time in the studio recording the follow up to their Grammy-nominated, critically acclaimed 2011 album, "Worship Music". The band recorded some 20 original songs, almost twice as many as they had ever brought into the studio in the past. In terms of how the new music sounds, Bello said, "The thing about ANTHRAX...we have this heavy, thrashy music and Joey's powerful and melodic vocals. I love heavy music, but I also love melody, so the challenge is to blend them together so they sound like ANTHRAX. I think we've done a really good job of that on the new album."
