Finnish/Swedish melodic metallers STRATOVARIUS have finished mastering their new album at Finnvox studio in Helsinki, Finland with Mika Jussila (NIGHTWISH, AMORPHIS, SENTENCED). According to the band, the follow-up to 2011's "Elysium" "sounds awesome!" A spring 2013 release is expected.

STRATOVARIUS's new DVD, "Under Flaming Winter Skies - Live In Tampere", recently entered the Music DVD chart in Finland at position No. 1.

Released on June 29 via earMUSIC, "Under Flaming Winter Skies - Live In Tampere" marks the end of an era as well as a new beginning. Turkey-based death metal trio ENGULFED, featuring members of DECAYING PURITY, DEGGIAL and BURIAL INVOCATION, are streaming their debut EP, Through The Eternal Damnation, on BandCamp.

The mini-album was recently released on CD by Hellthrasher Productions and the vinyl treatment is due out a few months later through Me Saco Un Ojo Records.

Australian speed metal veterans NOTHING SACRED have released a teaser track from their live recording at the Musicland gig in September. The concert was recorded and filmed for a live release scheduled for early 2013, which will mark the first new material released by the band in more than 20 years.

Nothing Sacred were at the forefront of the underground Australian metal scene through the mid '80's, headlining at Metal For Melbourne 1986 and issuing two highly acclaimed releases, the Deathwidth EP and Let Us Prey album. A 'short' hiatus begun in 1990 ended in late 2011 with the band playing key gigs in 2012. The forthcoming live release was recorded in September as a lead up to their support appearance on the 2012 PAUL DI'ANNO/BLAZE BAYLEY Australian tour in late November.

New York, NY thrash metallers PIROSAINT have released an audio preview of the upcoming track ‘The Debt That All Man Pay’. The track was recorded and mixed by Ignacio Orellana at Oily Sounds Studios in New Windsor, NY. The track will be available by November 23rd, when the band will perform as supporting act of SOULFLY/CAVALERA CONSPIRACY's guitarist Marc Rizzo in Albany, NY.

Drummer Ignacio Orellana commented: "While we are searching for the right sound for the band, we've decided to put out this track because it has a lot of history with us. This track was written in 1997 by Alfredo Vicencio, Jose Jara and I, then in 2011 I did presented the track to the new members at that time (Ryan Cady, Ron Buckner) and now 2012, finally we have recorded the final version of it with Bill Smith on guitars and Nicolas Scandiffio on Vocals. We are happy with all the modifications we have done through the years… This track will be included on the new mini album as a bonus track."

Post-metal prog act INTRONAUT will release its fourth full-length album, "Habitual Levitations (Instilling Words With Tones)", in North America on March 19, 2013 via Century Media Records. Drums for the CD were recorded by producer John Haddad (EXHUMED, PHOBIA) and Derek Donley (BEREFT) handled recording for all other elements on the record. It was mixed by Josh Newell and artwork and layout will be done by David D'Andrea, who has worked with the band on previous albums.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, SOUNDGARDEN blasted through 23 songs in front of 1,000 people at New York City's Irving Plaza nightclub on Tuesday night (November 13), in the first of three such shows to celebrate the arrival of the band's first album in 16 years, "King Animal". The show included a healthy amount of new material, eight songs in all, and drummer Matt Cameron told The Pulse Of Radio that the band wants to showcase the tracks from the new album as much as possible. "I think the more we play that, the better it's sounding, so every opportunity we get now to do that, we're certainly trying to do more and more."

The band's next two "intimate shows" will take place on Friday (November 16) in Toronto and November 27 in Los Angeles, with the group launching a full North American trek in January.

In addition to the eight new songs aired, the Irving Plaza show catered to hardcore SOUNDGARDEN fans with more obscure older tracks like "Incessant Mace" and "Gun" replacing radio hits such as "Black Hole Sun", which was not performed.

"King Animal" is SOUNDGARDEN's first all-new album since 1996's "Down On The Upside" and is projected by Hits Daily Double to sell between 70,000 and 75,000 copies in its first week out. New York City based female fronted melodic meatless FLAMES OF FURY have released their debut music video for their anti-bullying" anthem 'No Mercy'. Melodic rock/metal band VENEFICA have announced the release of the new music video for the track ‘Chains’.

The video was filmed in September with more being filmed during the band´s trip to Doncaster, UK where the band played the first ever show in Great Britain at the biggest tattoo festival in the country Tattoo Jam 2012.

Guitarist/main songwriter Jeff commented: “The story of the video perfectly reflects what the lyrics of this song and in fact what the whole Drowning Soul Syndrome concept record are about.”

German power metallers HELLOWEEN will release their new album, "Straight Out Of Hell", in Europe on January 18 and in North America on January 22, 2013. Paul Di'Anno verbally attacked a fan who attended the former IRON MAIDEN vocalist's November 3 performance at Liverpool in Donetsk, Ukraine after the man kept calling out the name of the band's current lead singer — and Di'Anno's replacement — Bruce Dickinson.

In the video clip below, the fan in question can be heard repeatedly shouting out Dickinson's name in heavily accented English, prompting Di'Anno to respond, "I'm sorry. I don't sing opera. [Singing in operatic style] 'Run to the hills…' [That's] too fucking easy, and I'm not gay. This is punk. If you like Bruce Dickinson, go home and listen to his records."

He continued, "Why did you come and buy a ticket, motherfucker? This is real punk, man. This is what made IRON MAIDEN. Not the money-making machine. Why don't you go fuck yourself? Di'Anno recorded two classic albums with IRON MAIDEN before being fired and replaced by Bruce Dickinson. He went on to front a number of other bands, including KILLERS and BATTLEZONE, and released several solo records.

DEATH WOLF (formerly DEVILS WHOREHOUSE), the "horror-death rock" side-project of MARDUK guitarist Morgan Håkansson, will release a limited-edition seven-inch vinyl single, "Bloodscent", on December 17. The set includes two brand-new tracks that server as a teaser for the second DEATH WOLF full-length album, to be made available in early 2013.

DEATH WOLF's second album is being recorded at Endarker Studio in Östergötland, Sweden.

DEVILS WHOREHOUSE changed its name to DEATH WOLF (symbolizing the strength, dedication and will shown in its creations) because "the music and philosophy behind the orchestra has outgrown its name," according to a press release.

DEATH WOLF made its live debut in June 2011 at the Wave Gotik Treffen festival in Leipzig, Germany.

Formed in 2000, DEVILS WHOREHOUSE's sophomore CD, "Blood & Ashes", came out in May 2009.

After a lengthy hiatus, DEVILS WHOREHOUSE, returned in 2008 with the release of an EP titled "Werewolf". The effort was made available in three different formats — CD, 7" and 12" picture disc.

"Lifer", the long-awaited third album from MELDRUM, the multinational hard rock/metal band formed by late ex-PHANTOM BLUE guitarist Michelle Meldrum, will be released on November 20 via Reversed Records. The CD was produced by Rob Shallcross (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, GWAR, ZIMMERS HOLE, WEST OF HELL) and Gene Hoglan (TESTAMENT, DEATH, DARK ANGEL, DETHKLOK). The album will come as a digipak that includes an eight-page insert and CD. Fans who place their order between now and the release date will receive a free download of MELDRUM's latest single, "Paid".

Michelle Meldrum died in May 2008 as a result of a cystic growth that had restricted oxygen and blood flow to her brain, rendering her braindead. Since she passed away before any of her guitar tracks for "Lifer" were laid down, Laura Christine played the majority of the rhythm and bass guitars, as well as all the leads, on the album as a tribute to Michelle and her vision.

"Lifer" stands as a proud tribute to Michelle, who wrote the material for the CD with Hoglan, along with Laura Christine (bass) and Michele Madden (vocals).

"Lifer" is sonically different in direction than anything previously released by the band. With new life, and new talent, this album has carried the talents these four have to a higher level.

Hoglan previously stated about the CD: "Let me say this: Never have I obsessed over the recording of any album I've been involved in as I have with MELDRUM's latest. The tragic circumstances that took Michelle from us also provided us with a laser-sharp focus to record the most amazing album we could. Michele Madden, Laura Christine, and hell, even Chicken, our engineer, put forth performances of a lifetime, with each member's full love and respect going into every nuance of every song. Michelle Meldrum was born on September 28, 1968 in Detroit, Michigan to a family of musicians and actors, and moved to Los Angeles, California at the age of 13. She started her career in music by forming the thrash metal band WARGOD with drummer Gene Hoglan (DARK ANGEL, DEATH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD), then moved on to become both co-founder and lead guitarist in PHANTOM BLUE. PHANTOM BLUE released its self-titled debut album on Shrapnel Records in the U.S. (Roadrunner in Europe and Japan) and eventually landed a major label deal with Geffen.

While her career flourished, Michelle married EUROPE guitarist John Norum and moved to Sweden to form MELDRUM. After many successful tours with such acts as MOTÖRHEAD and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, she reunited with Gene in 2006 when he appeared as a guest on MELDRUM album and events. Inspired to once again collaborate, Michelle moved back to America where she and Gene began writing the third MELDRUM album together.

Partial proceeds from "Lifer" will go to Michelle's son Jake Thomas (father is John Norum), whom she left behind when she passed.

Classic southern California power/speed metalists HERETIC have issued the following update:

"We started writing songs for our follow-up to 'A Time Of Crisis'. The sound will be in the traditional HERETIC style. We're not going to try to reinvent the wheel. Songtitles so far are 'Demonize' and 'Quick Sand'. We are also working on the reissue of the CDs 'Breaking Point' and 'Torture Knows No Boundary'. We can't give any details yet, but it will be cool for collectors. Lots of bonus material will be on it.

"Look for us live in 2013. We will be at Malone's [in Santa Ana, California] on January 25th with our friends PHANTOM X and DEATH ALLEY MOTOR CULT. There are plans in the works to play in [Northern California] sometime in February. We will also head to Europe for the first time to play the Headbangers Open Air fest in Germany. We look forward bringing the metal to you!!!"

HERETIC recorded its first-ever live DVD on August 25 at Malone's in Santa Ana, California.

The band's critically acclaimed "A Time Of Crisis" album came out on July 26 via Metal On Metal Records.

HERETIC, formed in 1985 in Los Angeles, California, released an EP, "Torture Knows No Boundary" (1986), and a full-length, "Breaking Point" (1988), through Metal Blade Records before disbanding. Later on the founding member, songwriter and guitarist Brian Korban together with bassist Dennis O'Hara formed REVEREND, which featured the vocal talents of the late David Wayne (METAL CHURCH).

In 2011 Brian Korban reformed the band, recruiting Julian Mendez, the vocalist who sang on the band's first EP. Soon they were joined by the seasoned musicians, long-time friends and collaborators, guitarist Glenn Rogers (VIKING, ex-HIRAX, ex-DELIVERANCE, ex-STEEL VENGEANCE and others) and bassist Angelo Espino (BITCH, ex-REVEREND, ex-HIRAX, ex-ANGER AS ART, ex-UNCLE SLAM and others) and a young, but talented drummer Ignazio Coppola.

"Resurrect With A Vengeance", the new video from Danish thrashers HATESPHERE, can be seen below. The clip was recorded and produced in September by Søren Dybdal Jensen and Claus Reinhold for Division 666.

"Resurrect With A Vengeance" comes off HATESPHERE's latest album, "The Great Bludgeoning", which entered the official chart in Denmark at position No. 40. The group's previous CD, "To The Nines" (2009), landed at No. 36 while 2007's "Serpent Smiles and Killer Eyes" debuted at No. 26.

"The Great Bludgeoning" was produced, mixed and mastered by Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, SICK OF IT ALL, MOONSPELL, DARK TRANQUILLITY) at the Antfarm Studios in Aarhus, Denmark. The cover artwork as created by Mircea Gabriel Eftemie, who has previously worked with SOILWORK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and MNEMIC (for which he also plays the guitar).

Vocalist Esben "Esse" Hansen joined HATESPHERE as the band's new singer in June 2010.

PEARL JAM guitarist Mike McCready and ex-GUNS N' ROSES and VELVET REVOLVER bass player Duff McKagan are working with WALKING PAPERS, the new Seattle band launched by former SCREAMING TREES drummer Barrett Martin and longtime Seattle musician Jeff Angell. McKagan plays bass on the band's entire debut disc, while McCready contributes lead guitar solos. Mixed by Jack Endino, the record was released on October 16 via Boredom Killing Business/Sunyata Records and the first single, "Your Secret's Safe With Me", is streaming at the band's Facebook page.

Martin and McCready previously played together in MAD SEASON, alongside late ALICE IN CHAINS singer Layne Staley. The band is currently being reactivated with new vocals being recorded over tracks originally laid down for an abandoned second MAD SEASON album.

McKagan was born and raised in Seattle and played in a punk band there called 10 MINUTE WARNING before migrating to Los Angeles and joining GUNS.

Massachusetts metallers KILLSWITCH ENGAGE have tapped veteran British producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, EXODUS, ACCEPT, ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE) to mix their new album for an early 2013 release via Roadrunner Records. The recording sessions for the CD were overseen by KILLSWITCH ENGAGE guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, an acclaimed producer in his own right who has previously worked with ALL THAT REMAINS, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA and AS I LAY DYING, among others.

In an interview with the "Brock And The Fatguy" radio show, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE singer Jesse Leachstated about the band's new material, "People are gonna be really surprised; [we're] setting the bar up high once again. It's really fast and it's really heavy. It's not what people are going to anticipate, I'm sure. I literally am getting chills right now talking about it. It's gonna blow the doors off people, man. It's gonna be great."

Leach sang on the band's first self-titled album, which came out in 2000, and on their landmark release, 2002's genre-defining "Alive Or Just Breathing". Leach left the band in 2002 and was replaced by Howard Jones, but his work on "Alive Or Just Breathing" has always been revered by diehard, longtime KILLSWITCH ENGAGE fans.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's April 22 performance at at the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival marked the band's first concert with Leach in more than nine years.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE will celebrate the 10th anniversary of "Alive Or Just Breathing" by performing the entire album during their U.S. headlining tour in November/December. Support on the trek will come from SHADOWS FALL and ACARO.

Entitled "Back From The Dead", ADLER's full-length debut will be released in North America on November 26 via New Ocean Media. Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Jeff Pilson (FOREIGNER, DOKKEN) and mixed by Jay Ruston (ANTHRAX, STONE SOUR), the effort consists of 11 tracks, ranging from adrenaline-pumping rockers ("Back From The Dead", "Own Worst Enemy", "Another Version Of The Truth") to arena-rock anthems ("Good To Be Bad", "Blown Away") to powerful, heartfelt ballads ("Waterfall", "Just Don't Ask"). In a recent interview with Bloody-Disgusting.com, Bunton stated about "The One That You Hated", "That was actually the first song that me and Lonny wrote together, and the last song that we recorded. How it came about was we were just sitting in Lonny's living room with a couple of acoustic guitars, and I had the music and the verses, I just didn't have the chorus, and once it got to the chorus, Lonny just started singing 'I'm the one that you hated,' and I was like, 'That's it, that's awesome!' So it came together really naturally and really quick. And the funny thing is, it's the first single, but it's not like it's the best song on the record or anything like that. Literally, Steven was about to go into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, and he said, 'You know, Slash has got his thing and Duff [McKagan] has got his thing, but nobody's heard anything from me for a long time. I would like my fans to know what I'm up to.' So, literally, we just pointed at a piece of paper with all of the songs that we had recorded on it, and went, 'Eeny meeny miny moe,' and that's the one that we picked. And we shot the video, and the cool thing about it is VH1 just added the video two weeks ago. So they've been playing it, which is very cool."

Guitarist/vocalist Robb Flynn of San Francisco Bay Area metallers MACHINE HEAD underwent successful surgery earlier today (Wednesday, November 14) in Minneapolis, Minnesota to repair his double inguinal hernia.

Several post-operation photos of Flynn can be seen below.

Flynn had planned to go under the knife in January 2013 after completing a North American tour with DETHKLOK, ALL THAT REMAINS and THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER. He had hoped to continue the trek despite extreme discomfort, but it's become too difficult to carry on.

Flynn will return home to California to recover, rest and recuperate. The band will rejoin the tour in Portland, Oregon on November 24.

MACHINE HEAD has just released a new live album, "Machine Fucking Head Live", via Roadrunner Records. It's the band's second live effort; "Hellalive" was released in 2003.

"Machine Fucking Head Live" was recorded at various tour stops across the globe last year. It features songs from throughout the band's expansive catalog, including crowd favorites like "Imperium", "Aesthetics of Hate", "Locust", "Ten Ton Hammer", "This is the End" and "Halo".
