BLACKGATES: Another Demo Track Posted Online

BLACKGATES: Another Demo Track Posted Online

"Vacant", the third demo track from BLACKGATES — the new band featuring former ANTHRAX singer Dan Nelson, drummer Paul Bostaph (TESTAMENT, ex-EXODUS, SLAYER, FORBIDDEN), guitarist Jeremy Epp (THE VENTING MACHINE) and bassist Uriah Duffy (WHITESNAKE) — can be streamed using the ReverbNation TuneWidget below (click on "Songs" tab). Also available at the same location are the previously released songs "Seeds Of War" and "Break".

Dan last year stated about BLACKGATES's musical direction, "It's thrashy and heavy, so it will appeal to ANTHRAX and TESTAMENT fans. But has the groove and brutality of PANTERA, and is also very melodic. The guitarist is a kid from the Bay Area named Jeremy Epp, who's an unknown, but sensational. People are gonna love him."

BLACKGATES recently finished mastering its first demo, which the band recorded in the San Francisco Bay Area with producer Tim Narducci (SYSTEMATIC, SPIRALARMS).

BLACKGATES is:

* Dan Nelson (ANTHRAX): Vocals/guitar
* Paul Bostaph (TESTAMENT, SLAYER, FORBIDDEN, EXODUS): Drums
* Uriah Duffy (WHITESNAKE): Bass
* Jeremy Von Epp (THE VENTING MACHINE): Guitar/vocals

Regarding his split with ANTHRAX in July 2009, Nelson told The Metal Den, "I never live my life with any regrets and never look back and wish I did something different. I chose instead to look forward to the future. We did some great things in the time we wrote and performed together, and I am very proud of that."

MARILYN MANSON: New Song Teaser Posted Online

MARILYN MANSON: New Song Teaser Posted Online

Marilyn Manson has released a 26-second video teaser for what he calls "an undisclosed song with an unreleased title." You can check out the clip below. In addition, the singer has posted the following message on his web site to accompany the track, which may or may not be titled "I Am Among No One":

"Brave Now World. Don’t ever believe what you read, especially if you are illiterate. Art will be the burning churches, burning beds, burning witches, burning bridges, burning Cadillacs, burning forests, burning flags, and the burning human remains that are the evidence of the burned books, filled with stories of our razor and rope burns.

"But we will not be the ashes. We will not be cremated, we will cauterize our wounds. We never wanted our wings anyway.

"We are more than the flightless creatures, that are always expected to rise from the bonfire. These are barbecues for trembling, idiot arsons who pretend to be America’s Vatican in whatever ‘ism’ is easiest to swallow. After the horrid blowing jobs, they expect us to fight against each other to obtain the security of willing slaves.

"We do not walk among them. I am among no one."

Marilyn Manson is currently in the studio with his bandmates finishing his eighth studio album, set for release later in the year through Cooking Vinyl Records.

KISS VINNIE VINCENT Arrested On Assault Charges

KISS VINNIE VINCENT Arrested On Assault Charges

According to TMZ.com, former KISS guitarist Vinnie Vincent was arrested today on charges of aggravated assault. Vincent (real name Vinnie Cusano) was busted by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department in Tennessee and held on $10,000 bond. He posted bail and was released at 11:27 a.m.

Vincent replaced lead guitarist Ace Frehley in 1982 and played with KISS for two years. He left the group on bad terms, and later claimed KISS members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley owed him royalties for his work on KISS' 1983 album "Lick It Up", according to the Courthouse News Service. However, a federal judge in Los Angeles ruled against him and awarded the KISS defendants about $66,400 in attorney's fees and $15,400 in costs.

Last June, Vincent lost his 6th Circuit appeal of an order barring him from seeking bankruptcy protection from paying more than $81,000 to his former bandmates.

In January, Vincent, in association with Guitarmageddon Guitars, unveiled the official Vinnie Vincent model guitar at the NAMM convention.

ATHEIST Frontman: CHUCK SCHULDINER Did Not Create Technical Metal

ATHEIST Frontman: CHUCK SCHULDINER Did Not Create Technical Metal

The new issue of Brazil's Roadie Crew magazine includes an interview with singer and co-founding member Kelly Shaefer of reactivated seminal technical metal pioneers ATHEIST. During the chat, Shaefer gave his opinion on the roles that some of the other late Eighties and early Nineties bands played in the development of progressive/technical extreme metal. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On CYNIC's "Traced In Air" album:

Shaefer: "It's difficult, because you can't help but look at the history of a band when they make a record fifteen years later. I mean, you can't help but think on how they used to be then. What CYNIC did in their new album is very interesting. I think they had a lot of artistic balls, so to speak. They really kind of went in a different direction, and you know, I'm proud of them for that. I personally as a fan would have loved to see them make more of a metal record. That's the CYNIC that I really loved. But I'm very proud of the landscapes that they have created musically. I've always believed in those guys since we first recorded our demo together back in the late Eighties. I always felt they were one of the most talented set of guys on the planet."

On PESTILENCE:

Shaefer: "PESTILENCE made a great comeback record, but I don't think that they deserve to be mentioned in that movement (technical metal). I don't feel like anything they were making was really visionary or technical in any way, to be honest. I've talked to Patrick Mameli [PESTILENCE mainman] about this. That's my honest opinion. I'm not trying to hurt anybody's feelings. That's how I feel about it. I'm sure many will disagree, but I'm sure many will also agree that bands like SIEGES EVEN deserve more credit than PESTILENCE. WATCHTOWER deserves more credit than PESTILENCE. WATCHTOWER was probably the first band that made we all realize that that kind of musicianship was possible within the realm of metal. We just took it a little further and made it a lot heavier."

On DEATH and Chuck Schuldiner:

Shaefer: "Chuck obviously is super-important to anything that has an extreme metal tag, and that includes technical metal. But technical metal was so different than what he initially started or from what he is sort of the grandfather of. I knew Chuck and all my friends knew Chuck. He was very passionate and very much a pioneer of… I mean, he was very ballsy to call his band DEATH in the mid-Eighties. That alone was a huge thing that you have to respect, and I always did, and I think that all of us do. But when we talk about… when we first started, we had the same manager, and we would hear stories… When we played shows in Tampa with DEATH, Chuck would say things about us like that we were so noisy that we sounded like a train station. It was strange to hear that, because we were just a demo band at that point and we couldn't understand why he was slagging us off. I think he just didn't understand what we were doing. At the time, he didn't think that jazz should have a place in metal. He even said that jazz shouldn't have a place in metal on many occasions. He would say that we didn't listen to metal at all and that we just listened to jazz. No! That's just false. There was a lot of kind of a spirited competition. I think that's where he was coming from. Chuck was really worried and protective over this kind of music and he should be. He really stuck his neck out for it. However, I think once he got a little older, once he jammed with Paul and Sean from CYNIC, he changed his viewpoint and he realized that musicianship is everything. The bands that we all grew up with… IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, those guys are all great players. He also grew up on those bands. I think he realized that technicality and incorporating different influences was not necessarily a bad thing.

"I think it's important that the young metal fans know that Chuck Schuldiner is very much responsible for extreme metal, and extreme visuals in that genre. However, ATHEIST comes from a whole different place, and Chuck didn't have anything to do with where we come from. I don't say that to slam him in anyway. But we had our own thing, we did our own thing, we are still alone on a street corner of metal that was not embraced when we first made this kind of music.

"In a lot of years of DEATH, obviously, Chuck did embrace technicality, and, of course, that for he being in a much larger band than us, if people don't tell the story correctly, it appears that DEATH was at the forefront of this. They weren't. There were ATHEIST and CYNIC who were basically there.

"Everybody has a branch on the tree, and Chuck was definitely a thicker branch on the tree, a very important part of what we all do. We owe him a great deal of gratitude for being the pioneer that he was. I have a lot of respect for what he's done and accomplished. But truth and matter of fact is that technical metal was not created by Chuck Schuldiner."

JON LORD Planning Studio Recording Of Concerto For Group And Orchestra

JON LORD Planning Studio Recording Of Concerto For Group And Orchestra

According to JonLord.org, former DEEP PURPLE keyboardist Jon Lord is working on the definitive studio recording of "Concerto For Group And Orchestra", originally composed and first performed in 1969. The "Concerto" was recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall in 1969 and again in 1999, but has never been recorded in a studio environment.

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Paul Mann are confirmed for the new recording which will be completed later this year.

Jon has had plenty of opportunities to listen to and adjust the Concerto score.

"Over these last years since leaving DEEP PURPLE, I've played it over 30 times with different orchestras and conductors all over the world, and, of course, in 2000 I did it well over 30 times with PURPLE on the Concerto Tour, so I've been honing the piece live on stage, and I've had the opportunity to change things in the score that weren't sounding quite right," he said. "It is therefore a marvelous and exciting prospect to have the definitive recording of the definitive version of the score."

"I'm thrilled to have the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic on board. I have immensely enjoyed working with them on several occasions since recording Durham Concerto with them in 2007. They are a wonderful group of players, and with Paul Mann conducting — a dear friend and a man who knows the score inside out — there couldn't be a better conductor and orchestra for this studio recording of the Concerto, says Jon.

Contrary to ill-informed rumors on other web sites, no other DEEP PURPLE members — current or former — are involved in the recording. The musicians who are involved will be announced in due course.

CATHEDRAL To Record One Final Studio Album

CATHEDRAL To Record One Final Studio Album

According to The Quietus, seminal U.K. doom metal act CATHEDRAL will play its last-ever show on December 3 at the London Kentish Town Forum. Support will be provided by kindred spirits GRAND MAGUS, COMUS, and GENTLEMAN'S PISTOLS. The band will record one final studio album entitled "The Last Spire", to be released in 2012 as a follow-up to last year's "The Guessing Game". There will be no live shows to support the album, as frontman Lee Dorrian claims that it's time for CATHEDRAL to "move on" and hopes "to leave our recorded legacy to linger."

When asked if he feels he has achieved all he could with CATHEDRAL, Dorrian told The Quietus, "Yes, way beyond what we ever thought we could achieve, to be honest. For a start, when we first formed the band, we seriously never saw beyond making a demo. What we were doing was purely out of love for our favorite doom metal bands, and they were so few and far between. To have had the opportunity to develop as a band and follow our own path has been nothing short of a miracle in the face of adversity. We had no plan, we just let it happen and we are utterly grateful to the people that have supported us, enabling it to come this far."

Regarding what his happiest and weirdest memories are from being the frontman of CATHEDRAL, Dorrian said, "So many things, not just being the frontman but being part of it. When me and Gaz first got the band together, we had no idea that we would become friends with members of WITCHFINDER GENERAL, TROUBLE, THE OBSESSED, PENTAGRAM, et cetera. Tony Iommi [BLACK SABBATH] actually played on one of our albums. These are things that mean the world to us above any kind of commercial success."

WITHIN TEMPTATION Sinéad single update!

WITHIN TEMPTATION Sinéad single update!

Sinéad, our new single: something different in many ways!

Both in the story of ‘The Unforgiving’ as well as on the album, ‘Sinéad‘ has always been a favorite of all of us. She is a character with a lot of different opposite sides to her, just like the song. It is catchy and feel good but at the same time emotional and melancholic. So from the start it was quite clear that Sinéad would be released as a single from this album.

In the past with single releases, we’ve very often added bonus tracks like live tracks, b-sides or acoustic versions. This time we also wanted to bring something extra to the release of Sinéad, but just like the song itself something new and fresh. As the dance influences in Sinéad are so obvious we thought it would be interesting to see what would happen if ‘real’ dance artist would remix the track.

So we approached Benno de Goeij, who we knew from the corporation with Armin van Buuren in “In and out of Love“) . VNV Nation, who often perform at the same festivals as we do like M’era Luna and last but not least Scooter (who used Sharon’s vocal track from Pale on ‘State of Mind‘. They all responded very enthusiastic and each of them put a lot of effort in it to make it happen despite their busy schedules.

So also from here we would like to thank them for the time and passion they’ve put into it and of course for the great end result. They have made this single release a very special and an exciting one for us. We hope you’ll enjoy this new experiences just as much as we have!

We hate to let you guys wait… but more information on the Sinéad release will be announced soon!
