Canadian thrash metal pioneers EXCITER have issued the following update:

"The recording of [the new EXCITER album] 'Thrash Speed Burn' is moving along. The music and vocals are complete for eight of the 10 songs. On the remaining two, all that's left is lead and backing vocals. Then it's mixing time, and off to Massacre [Records] for mastering and release.

"We have also videotaped interviews with each band member for inclusion in some special edition versions that Massacre plans on releasing. There are no details as yet about that package, though.

"The Atarfe Vega Rock festival in Spain has been rescheduled to March 7 and 8, 2008, and we'll be playing on Saturday the 8th."

Massacre Records will release date the new EXCITER album, "Thrash Speed Burn", on February 22, 2008.

The forthcoming release from UK extreme progressive metallers BIOMECHANICAL is set to feature four exclusive orchestral tracks. These expanded and reworked orchestral versions will only be available on a limited edition first pressing of "Cannibalised", which is due to be released on February 11, 2008 in Europe and February 26 in the USA.

These exclusive orchestral tracks have been masterminded by BIOMECHANICAL mainman John K and include the songs "Imperium (Absolution Parts I+III)" and "Through The Remains (Consumed)" taken from "The Empires Of The Worlds" and two tracks adapted from "Cannibalised", which include "Beyond The Descent (Fallen In Fear/Regenerated)" and "Reborn Into Darkness (Through Hatred Arise)".

Finnish melodic death/power metal band NAILDOWN has issued the following update:

"As some of you have might witnessed on our last two gigs, we pulled those shows without Jarmo [Puikkonen, keyboards] so it's time to tell the truth for everybody about the situation.

"NAILDOWN has parted ways with keyboard player Jarmo Puikkonen. No big drama here, just a 'little' different views of what being in a band actually requires.

"Us, the remaining Naildowners feel sorry that things were gettting into this point but there was no other way, this decision was best for everybody. However, this has NO effect on our live performances. We will continue without a keyboard player as long as we find the right person for the job. And if we don't find anyone by the next album's session, that's not a problem either since we are fully capable to handle keyboard tracks in studio by our own. So, we are gonna consider carefully before making anyone an official member of the band."

NAILDOWN's latest album, "Dreamcrusher", was released in March via Spinefarm Records. The CD was recorded at Sound Supreme studios, mixed at Hansen studios and mastered at Finnvox studios.

Acclaimed guitarist Paul Gilbert (ex-MR. BIG, RACER X) has issued the following update:

"It's November, 2007 and I'm back in the recording studio making a brand new CD! After the success of the 'Get Out Of My Yard' CD and playing on G3 this year, I am feeling inspired and still very much in the mood for guitar music. So this new CD will be all-instrumental as well. Gilbert composes music in a wide variety of styles including pop, rock, metal, blues, jazz, funk and classical, but is perhaps best known for his versatility and speed, which helped him be named as one of the "Top 10 Shredders Of All Time" by Guitar One magazine. He is also considered to be one of the best proponents of alternate picking, tapping and string skipping.

Drummer Anders Jakobson of the Örebro, Sweden-based "blasting" death metal band COLDWORKER — which consists of current and former/current members of such acts as NASUM, RELENTLESS, CARNAL GRIEF, RUIN and PHOBOS — has issued the following update:

"It's less than two weeks until we start recording the second COLDWORKER album (yet untitled). More details regarding the recording will come soon.

ASSAILANT, the Umeå, Sweden-based band featuring guitarist Oscar Norberg ("little brother" of Emil of PERSUADER/SAVAGE CIRCUS fame and Nils Norberg of NOCTURNAL RITES), is putting the finishing touches on its as-yet-untitled second album, tentatively due in early 2008 via Dockyard 1. The group will film a video for one of the new CD cuts in late December with Ove Lingvall of Village Road Film.

ASSAILANT's debut album, "Nemesis Within", was released in 2006 via Dockyard 1.

WITHIN TEMPTATION's November 24, 2007 concert at the Beursgebouw in Eindhoven, Holland was filmed for an upcoming DVD, tentatively due next summer. Jonathan Cohen of Billboard.com reports that Boston-based rock outfit EXTREME is reuniting for its first studio album in 13 years and world tour in 2008. The group, best known for the 1991 No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit "More Than Words", disbanded in 1996 but reformed briefly in 2004 and 2006.

Details are pending on the album, which is being produced by guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, and the tour dates. EXTREME now includes original members Bettencourt, frontman Gary Cherone and bassist Pat Badger, along with new drummer Kevin Figueiredo.

Australian rock and roll legends ROSE TATTOO have released the video for the song "Man About Town" — the second clip from the group's latest album, "Blood Brothers". Watch the video below.

"Blood Brothers" was released in February via Armageddon Music. The CD was produced by veteran Australian producer Mark Opitz (INXS, COLD CHISEL, KISS). The album's first single, "Black Eyed Bruiser", was written by the band's original production team, Harry Vanda and George Young, who were also AC/DC's producers.

Finnish metal band HEVEIN has issued the following update:

"We're happy to announce that pre-production is going well for the second album. We have been recording riffs, lyrics and stuff on a small voice recorder just to get a feel for the upcoming album and now have around 20 songs waiting to be dissected. DERANGED drummer Rikard Wermén previously stated about the upcoming album, "It is the best musical work we have so far accomplished under the name DERANGED. It's brutal and insane, and will hopefully leave you dead with a broken neck in the pit."

Swedish melodic black metallers SIEBENBÜRGEN have reformed and are currently working on material for a new album, tentatively due next year. Vocalist Marcus Ehlin has issued the following statement on the matter:

"Greetings fellow metalheads and all other dark creatures that follow our path!

"I'm glad to inform you all that SIEBENBÜRGEN has risen from the grave and are back with full force, with a new upcoming album in 2008.

"Mr. Bryngelsson [guitarist Richard Bryngelsson] and me have resurrected the band, though in a different shape and a different form, but still under the same black flag that SIEBENBÜRGEN proudly hails under. New members follows our course: Dennis Ekdahl on drums and Johnnie Gunther on keyboard. We are still trying out for lead guitar.

"Richard Bryngelsson is, of course, still handling the guitar and I the vocals, but this time I have mantled the bass as well.

"The music is in the same vein as before: dark and atmospheric metal.

SIEBENBÜRGEN split up in February 2006, explaining at the time that "after 12 years, we sadly don't have the energy and inspiration to take the band any further and it would be wrong to us and to our fans to continue without the passion that SIEBENBÜRGEN deserve."

Following a long hiatus and a comeback that never materialized, Individual Totem eventually released the WWW EP digitally on Artoffact Records in late 2007.

Guitarist Jakob Batten of the Danish extreme metallers ILLDISPOSED has issued the following update:

"The recordings [for the new ILLDISPOSED album] are done!!! All drums, guitars, bass and vocals are now recorded. Next week we'll spend a day checking if everything's perfect or if something has to be corrected. Then we'll send the sessions to Fredrik Nordström so he can start mixing the album on December 3rd. Bo [Summer, vocals] and I will go to Sweden to mix with Fredrik.

"The new album is recorded differently compared to the previous two albums. We didn't really cut into the tracks while recording so nearly everything you'll hear is first takes. We want it all to sound more raw and alive this time. A lot of the new albums you hear these days are so tight and over-produced that it doesn't sound like humans playing anymore and in the long run you get tired of it — I think.

"The front cover for the album will be made by Mattias Norén (who yesterday revealed that he will quit making album artwork). So I guess our cover will be one of the last covers you'll see him."

KATRA, the Finnish gothic metal band named after its charismatric frontwoman Katra Solopuro, has signed a worldwide deal with Napalm Records.

With its self-titled debut, the band has already won over countless cross-genre fans in its native Finland. For the worldwide release, the vocals are to be re-recorded in English under the guidance of producer Risto Asikainen (STRATOVARIUS) at Jean Records Studio. This new version will also include two new tracks. Artist Janne Uotila (HIM) will be responsible for the CD's artwork.

Danish metal band MUGSHOT, which recently signed to the local branch of SonyBMG, has completed recording the instrumental parts for its debut album at Antfarm Studios with producer Tue Madsen. The vocal recording sessions are set to begin in December, with the album itself penciled in for an April 2008 release. A studio blog documenting the recording process is available on the Danish rock/metal magazine Revolution-Music.dk.

Kim Ljung gets personal : The Zeromancer songwriter / bassplayer shows off his schizophrenia through his alias Ljungblut and brings melancholy to the masses !

New album “Capitals” shows him more confident with a mixture of styles that brings to mind Martin Gore and Trent Reznor with a smattering of David Sylvian thrown in for good measure. Ljung’s voice is always in the center, tender but with a quiet desperation to it with songs about unconditional love and hate, heartache and headache. Dark pop melodies and a real knack for a melodic hook make "Capitals" a must have for fans of the genre. Excellent.

Listening to Ljungblut albums should give you the feel of being lonely in the company of others.

Finnish metallers AMORPHIS were joined by guest singer Mikko Kotamäki from support band SWALLOW THE SUN during their headlining concert Friday night (November 23) in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Watch their performance of the song "Drowned Maid" below (courtesy of "Laverne616").

AMORPHIS' new album, "Silent Waters", entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 44. Released in North America on September 18, the CD is the second AMORPHIS album to feature singer Tomi Joutsen (SINISTHRA). It was recorded at Sonic Pump studios in Helsinki, Finland. Mixing duties were handled by Mikko Karmila (NIGHTWISH, STRATOVARIUS) at Finnvox studios.

Italian gothic metallers MACBETH have posted an eight-minute video clip (view below) documenting the recording sessions for the group's recently released album, "Superangelic Hate Bringers". The CD, which came out on November 16 via Dragonheart Records, was recorded in two different studios, including a private studio in Reykjavik, Iceland and New Sin studios in Italy, where the band also mixed and mastered the album.

According to a press release, "Superangelic Hate Bringers" is "the brilliant new and ambitious album by MACBETH that features ten pieces which go well beyond the confines of pure gothic metal." The album's first single, "Without You", and "To My Falling Star" are said to "offer a new interpretation of gothic metal" while tracks like "Watch Us Die" and "H.A.T.E." are "evidence of how much more aggressive the new sound is."

Polish extreme metal band HATE has finalized the track listing for its new album, "Morphosis", due in early 2008 via Osmose Productions. The CD was mixed in July/August at Hertz Studio in Poland by Wieslawski Bros. (VADER, DECAPITATED).

According to a press release, "HATE's previous album, 'Anaclasis', showed an adventurous and experienced death metal band, unleashing innovative and memorable material without falling into being over experimental and hard to digest for the listener. 'Morphosis' sounds even more disturbing. They've twisted the nail further into that fresh direction and have never sounded as catchy and intense while staying fully connected to the death metal genre!"

Former ANGRA/SHAAMAN frontman André Matos has inked a deal with Universal Music Brazil for the release of his solo debut, "Time to be Free". FACE DOWN, the reactivated Swedish outfit featuring former THE HAUNTED singer Marco Aro, has issued the following update:

Norway's TRAIL OF TEARS has extended its contract with Napalm Records.

The group's fifth album, "Existentia", was issued in January via Napalm. The CD was recorded at Soundsuite Studio in Marseille, France with producer Terje Refsnes and includes contributions from French female singer Emmanuelle Zoldan and Norwegian keyboard master Bernt Moen.

TRAIL OF TEARS will embark on a North American headlining tour in January/February 2008. Support on the trek will come from CELLADOR, ECHOES OF ETERNITY and UNEXPECT.

TRAIL OF TEARS was recently rejoined by vocalist Cathrine Paulsen, who sang on the group's 2002 album, "A New Dimension of Might".

TRAIL OF TEARS members Jonathan Perez (drums), Kjell Hagen (bass), Runar Hansen (guitar) and Kjetil Nordhus (vocals) announced on November 28, 2006 that they were leaving the group. Vocalist Ronny Thorsen has since vowed to carry on with new members.
