Ohio-based black/death metal band ACHERON has welcomed back guitarist Stacey Connolly into its unholy fold for some live performances. Connolly has agreed to fill the second guitarist slot for several shows and appear on the upcoming ACHERON live DVD. According to the bandmembers, Stacey "is working out very well and it is great working with him again." But this is not a permanent position, since Stacey lives in West Virginia and already plays in the band LIFE IS LOST.

Commented band founder Vincent Crowley: "Stacey never left the band on bad terms and we have continued to be friends even after he left. We asked him to do us a favor by filling in and he agreed. It was much easier to go this route, since he already knew many of the songs we were doing. Much better than teaching a new guitarist a whole fucking set worth of stuff. Not to mention he put time into the band in the past, so having him appear on the upcoming live DVD just seemed like the right thing."

BRAINSTORM's new single, "Fire Walk With Me", recently entered the Hungarian chart at position No. 1.

BRAINSTORM has been confirmed for the ProgPower UK festival in Bristol, UK on Saturday, March 29, 2008 and the Metalcamp festival on July 5, 2008 in Tolmin, Slovenia.

Metal Blade in June released the first-ever BRAINSTORM DVD, "Honey from the B's (Beasting around the Bush)". The box set was released in digipack format "with special metal effect." The disc entered the Hungarian Music DVD chart at position No. 18.

BRAINSTORM recently parted ways with longtime bass player Andreas Mailänder and is currently seeking a replacement.

Swedish industrial goth metal band DEATHSTARS entered Metrosonic Recording Studios in New York City on October 29 to begin recording of their new album for a spring 2008 release via Nuclear Blast Records. According to the group, "this album will start another chapter in [DEATHSTARS'] history of vanity, darkness, blood and sleaze."

The band adds, "The recording sessions will continue throughout November and December and the mix is set for January so get prepared for a 2008 filled with exploding deathglam!"

According to NME.com, LED ZEPPELIN entered the UK Top Forty singles chart today (November 18) at No. 37 with their legendary song "Stairway To Heaven". The band had made their back catalogue available to download earlier this week, hence the new chart entry. LED ZEPPELIN's "Mothership", a 24-track, two-CD comprehensive collection that spans the band's illustrious career, entered the UK Top Albums chart at No. 4.

As previously reported, "Mothership" is on track to sell around 100,000-105,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut in the Top 10 of The Billboard 200 chart, according to Hits Daily Double.

"Mothership" contains material from all eight of the band's classic studio albums, with the tracks being personally selected by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones. "Mothership" includes landmark songs such as "Whole Lotta Love", "Immigrant Song", "Kashmir", "Rock And Roll", "Dazed And Confused", "Stairway to Heaven". The set also includes new liner notes.

Vocalist Rick Mythiasin (STEEL PROPHET, MYTHIASIN, ALL IN VEIN) has issued the following update:

"Well, I've wrapped it up on tracking my vocals for the second time on our [MYTHIASIN] debut CD, I think it was a good idea re-track stuff, because it sounds so much better. Gus G., mastermind of Greek melodic metal sensation FIREWIND, has issued the following update:

"Looking back on 2007 now I can say that I'm very happy with what we've accomplished with FIREWIND. We toured heavily for the 'Allegiance' album and our world tour passed through 22 countries and we did about 100 shows to promote it. Finnish heavy metal band BURNING POINT has released the video for its song "Heart of Gold". The clip, which was filmed, directed and produced by Jukka Häkkilä of NorthCrest Media, can be viewed below.

"Heart of Gold" comes off BURNING POINT's third album, "Burned Down the Enemy", which was released earlier in the year via Metal Heaven Records. The mixing sessions for "Burned Down the Enemy" took place at the Tonebox studio in the band's hometown of Oulu. Kari "Kakke" Vähäkuopus, who handled the mixing process for the previous albums, "Salvation by Fire" and "Feeding the Flames", once again helmed the sessions. The CD was mastered at Finnvox studios in Helsinki.

Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen performed her new single, "I Walk Alone", on the Finnish show "Huuma" on MTV3 last night (Saturday, November 17). The playback performance (with Tarja and her band playing along to a pre-recorded track) can be viewed below.

"I Walk Alone" entered the German chart at position No. 16.

Turunen will perform "I Walk Alone" on November 30 at the farewell fight of the German female boxing champion (and Doro Pesch's close friend) Regina Halmich. The event will take place at the DM Arena in Karlsruhe, Germany.

DEATH tribute band SYMBOLIC will perform with special guest musicians Bobby Koelble (guitarist on DEATH's "Symbolic" album), Shannon Hamm (guitarist on DEATH's "The Sound of Perseverance" album), Scott Clendenin (bass on DEATH's "The Sound of Perseverance" album) and Daniel Mongrain (MARTYR) at a benefit concert to honor late DEATH/CONTROL DENIED mastermind Chuck Schuldiner on December 12, 2007 at the Theatre Imperial in Quebec City, QC, Canada. The concert will be over two hours long with a few surprises throughout the night. Tickets will go on sale this morning (November 17) at 10:00 a.m. via Billetech. There will also be limited V.I.P tickets available. This will allow people to enter the show 30 minutes before doors open, have a meet-and-greet with the band, free posters of the show and more. All profits will be divided between Chuck's foundation for cancer research and a local foundation.

Vocalist Bjørn "Narrenschiff" Holter of the Danish symphonic black metallers ILLNATH has issued the following update:

"As most of you know by now, we're in a small trench of waiting at the moment. The new album ['Three Nights in the Sewers of Sodom'] is recorded and being mixed. The cover art is pretty much ready (and looks amazing!!) as usual it is Wilhelm Steiner doing how wonderful work.

"Three Nights in the Sewers of Sodom" was recorded at Borsing Studios. The CD is expected to be released via Spain's Deathlight Records following the band's split with Worldchaos Production (which was supposed to put out the band's long-completed second full-length offering, "Second Skin of Harlequin".

Vocalist Kobi Farhi of the Israeli metal band ORPHANED LAND is currently working on his debut book called "A Tango Between God & Satan". The book will contain personal stories and adventures from Kobi's childhood, from his world travels, and, of course, some stories from his adventures with ORPHANED LAND.

Comented Kobi: "I choose not to write about sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll as I find it boring and I don't see a reason why these stories should be in a book. My stories and adventures are very spiritual and unique along with very bad adventures and dark stories, and that is that 'tango.' I used to tell these stories that happened to me to friends and they were always amazed and said I should publish a book about it."

The book is written in Hebrew language and it is scheduled for a 2008 release.

Regarding ORPHANED LAND's current activities, Farhi said, "we have no shows for the moment and all of our free time is dedicated to working on 'ORwarriOR', our next, fifth album!

"After the huge sucsess of the album 'Mabool', you should expect no less than another masterpiece! the album will not be 'Mabool Vol. 2'. As you might know, we always like to bring something new and we like to expiriment new instruments and ideas, so this new album is something else, and so far we love what we wrote very much!"

Defunct Swedish gothic metallers BESEECH will release a posthumous double-DVD, "The Drama Ends", in December. This release is very limited and the first 100 orders will be signed by the band. BESEECH announced its decision to split up in October 2006 after over 15 years in the business. The band played its final gig on December 15, 2006 at Trägårn in its hometown of Borås, Sweden.

BESEECH's final release was their fifth album, "Sunless Days", which came out in September 2005 through Napalm Records.

Finnish metallers CHILDREN OF BODOM recently entered Petrax Studio in Hollola, Finland with producer Mikko Karmila to begin recording their new album for an April 7, 2008 European release via Spinefarm Records. The CD, which will feature a guest appearance by Peter Tägtgren of HYPOCRISY and PAIN fame, will be preceded by a single on March 3, 2008. Songtitles set to appear on the album include "Pray for the Devil", "Good Morning Roadkill" and "Tie My Rope".

CHILDREN OF BODOM bassist Henkka T. Blacksmith has checked in with the following studio update:

"The darkness is crazy, it's also funny how it surprises every time. At 6 pm it's totally dark. And the days are getting shorter shorter and shorter. And it rains! But inside the studio it is nice and warm. The bass tracks were done last week and at the moment Alexi [Laiho; guitars and vocals] is finishing his solos. That means that all that is left is the keyboard sounds, and vocals. Janne [Wirman; keyboards] has already started working last week and he has recorded most of his stuff, but later on we still have to choose the sounds, the final sounds. So next week will be exciting, when we start choosing sounds, and recording the vocals. It's also the last week in the studio."

CHILDREN OF BODOM frontman Alexi Laiho has told Revolver magazine that he plunged into an alcohol stupor that lasted several months following the completion of the band's two-year tour in support of 2005's "Are You Dead Yet?" "I was so tired of everything and everybody," he said. "I was just like, 'Fuck this, I'm going to get drunk."

"I was in a really aggressive mood, so I think the songs are thrashier and faster than the ones on 'Are You Dead Yet?'" Laiho added. "It's a faster album, but some of it is more progressive. You'll just have to hear it."

STRATOVARIUS mastermind Timo Tolkki has been had at work on a new "rock opera" project, entitled "Saana - Warrior of Light Part 1: Journey to Crystal Island".

"Saana - Warrior of Light Part 1: Journey to Crystal Island" is a multimedia adventure containing almost one hour of music and comes with a full all region bonus DVD that contains the whole story in film format as well. It also has lots of other extras and a brand new interview of Timo Tolkki about his past, present and future.

Featuring the talents of Jennifer Sowle, Aino Laos, Heikki Poyhiä and Janette Sainio, this album is a breathtaking experience of emotions. They were all carefully chosen for their respective roles and they enhance the musical journey in a way that hasn't really been heard before. Timo Tolkki calls it "a classical rock opera."

Says Timo: "We have completed the vocals for 'Saana''s first part.

"Composing, writing the story, casting from hundreds of people, and putting this all together has been very refreshing and interesting for me," Tolkki previously stated. "I think it is the next logical step for me and I am really interested in combining music, graphics and film," he continues. "This album has just basically one long song, but there are 18 themes that are bound together by a story in which I have used my longtime interest in philosophy, psychology and spirituality. At the end of the day it really has just two main themes: Love and the fight between good and evil. Like the name indicates, there will be another part to this saga. It really is a very interesting story about an old theme, but I think I have managed to take it somewhere that no one has been before. I am also very happy that I have the chance to direct this film for the music as well because I think it really needs it. It's like a combination of a musical, music video and regular film."

THE ARCANE ORDER, the Danish band featuring vocalist Kasper Thomsen (RAUNCHY) and guitarist Flemming C. Lund (INVOCATOR, ex-AUTUMN LEAVES), will release its sophomore album, "In the Wake of Collisions", in Europe on January 14 through Metal Blade Records. The CD was recorded at Hansen studio in Ribe, Denmark and is "not the natural follow-up to 'The Machinery of Oblivion' [2006]," according to Lund. "We always said we weren't interest in just making a new 'Machinery...' album, and we think the new album proves just that. We have evolved as a team, as a band, and you will be able to hear so on the new album. We think it's fair to say that we have found our own sound with the new album. You need to listen to the whole album, all the songs in a row, to understand what the new stuff is all about.

"So what does the new album sound like? Well, it's a bit hard to describe. The new stuff is less thrashy, but in some parts much more extreme, while some parts are really melodic and almost epic-sounding. There's tons of shredding, great drum and vocal work, so everyone should be pleased."

MIDNATTSOL, the German-Norwegian band featuring vocalist Carmen Elise Espenaes (the younger sister of LEAVES' EYES singer Liv Kristine), has completed the guitar tracks for its second album, entitled "Nordlys", for a March 2008 release via Napalm Records.

"Nordlys" will be mixed by Tue Madsen while the mastering will be handled by Mika Jusilla at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, Finland.

MIDNATTSOL's debut album, "Where Twilight Dwells", was released in 2005 via Napalm Records.

MANOWAR director Neil Johnson — who is responsible for overseeing all of the band's DVDs and music videos — has posted a video message explaining why paying $117 (80 euros) to attend the group's Magic Circle Festival in Germany next July should be considered a bargain. Watch the clip here.

Magic Circle Festival 2008 will be held in Bad Arolsen, Germany from Wednesday, July 9 to Saturday, July 12. Next year's festival will feature four days of metal, 20,000 free beers, 20,000 free copies of the new MANOWAR single and four custom-built choppers owned by MANOWAR members to be given away.

MANOWAR is scheduled to perform on the Friday evening of the festival, where they will play "Battle Hymns", "Into Glory Ride" and "Hail To England". On the Saturday evening, the band will play "Sign Of The Hammer", "Fighting The World" and "Kings Of Metal". This set will also feature, for the first time, a rendition of "The Crown And The Ring (Lament Of The Kings)", which will feature the original choir and orchestral performance that has never been seen before.

Portuguese metallers MOONSPELL are currently in pre-production with Waldemar Sorychta (GRIP INC., LACUNA COIL, TIAMAT) for the follow-up to the acclaimed 2006 effort "Memorial". The band is scheduled to enter Antfarm studios in Denmark in January 2008 with producer Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, DARK TRANQUILLITY, HALFORD) to begin recording the CD for a tentative late spring/early summer release via SPV.

MOONSPELL's last release was the "Under SatanÆ" CD, which consisted of re-recordings of the band's legendary EP "Under the Moonspell" (1994) as well as their first demo "Anno SatanÆ" and their sole track as MORBID GOD, "Serpent Angel". All songs were re-arranged and revamped in order to "underline their revered distinction as underground classics but now with a mature dark energy and class," according to a press release. The CD was recorded at Antfarm with Tue Madsen and charted in the band's home country, where the group played the album in its entirety at a one-off show at the Lisbon Coliseum in front of 3,500 fans.

In other news, MOONSPELL singer Fernando Ribeiro has just finished translating "I am Legend" by Richard Matheson into Portuguese. The major motion picture adaptation starring Will Smith is coming out on December 14 (two weeks later in Portugal) and the book will be released the same month.

CRADLE OF FILTH will release "Thornography Deluxe – Harder, Darker, Faster" on January 29 via Roadrunner Records. In addition to the album's original 12 tracks, the deluxe edition features new artwork, six new songs, live material and videos ("The Foetus Of A New Day Kicking", "Tonight In Flames" and "Temptation").

Most of the new songs featured on "Thornography Deluxe – Harder, Darker, Faster" were written during the "Thornography" sessions but were completed at a later date. They are as follows:

Dani Filth recently recorded vocals for the theme song to Dario Argento's latest horror/suspense opus "Mother of Tears: The Third Mother". The song, entitled "(She's) The Mother of Tears" was composed by Claudio Simonetti. Simonetti, a veritable legend among horror film scores, is also noted for penning music to such classics as "Dawn of the Dead", "Suspiria", "Phenomena" and several episodes of the popular series "Masters of Horror".

CIRCUS DIABLO — the new project featuring THE CULT guitarist Billy Duffy, THE ALMIGHTY frontman Ricky Warwick (guitar), ex-THE CULT touring bassist/current CAMP FREDDY guitarist Billy Morrison (vocals), and former FUEL/current RIDERS ON THE STORM frontman Brett Scallions (bass) — has posted the song "Mary's Shadow" on the group's MySpace page. The track is a bonus cut recorded during the sessions for the band's self-titled debut album, which came out this past summer via Koch Records.
