EVOKEN Announces New Keyboardist

EVOKEN Announces New Keyboardist

Lyndhurst, New Jersey-based doom/death metal act EVOKEN has announced the addition of keyboardist Don Zaros to the group's ranks. The group says in a statement, "[Don] is a very talented musician with a lot of knowledge regarding this type of music...which is exactly what we were looking for. EVOKEN has started practicing again as a full band (finally) after a lengthy layoff and initial rehearsals have been very promising."

EVOKEN's latest CD, "A Caress of the Void", was released last month via Sweden's I Hate Records. The seven-song effort contains around 62 minutes of music and features artwork by dark mastermind Valentin Mellstrom.

According to a press release, "EVOKEN are, together with THEROTHON, WINTER and DISEMBOWELMENT, the originators of the doom/deaths cene, a scene we have hithertho never ventured into. The reason is simple, we haven't found bands genuine enough to work with. With EVOKEN it's different, they are able to conjure truly nightmarish visions of abysmal depths in Lovecraftian fashion like no other band, without ever falling prey to contrived 'gothmospheric' sobbing or teen-angst-ridden nonsense."

UFO Drummer Checks In

UFO Drummer Checks In

UFO drummer Andy Parker has issued the following update:

"For those of you that don't know, we have just completed a three-week tour that took us to Russia, the Ukraine, Germany and finally the good old UK. Pretty exhausting, I can tell you, especially the Russian part. Man! That place is BIG, and that's coming from a guy who lives in Texas. We had several 20-plus-hour journeys by train with little else to do but drink, and all I can say is that I will never complain about British trains again. Believe me, when it comes to drinking, those Russians are professionals, they even make Pete [Way, bass] look like a beginner and that's hard to do.

ANATHEMA: New Song Available For Download

ANATHEMA: New Song Available For Download

A brand new ANATHEMA song entitled "Angels Walk Among Us" is available for download at this location (MP3, 18 MB).

In a recent online posting, ANATHEMA mastermind Daniel Cavanagh stated about the group's upcoming album, "We intend to record over 80 minutes of music. At least 14 songs. The idea AT THE MOMENT is to release a double album called simply 'Paradigm Shift'. Again, this not not confirmed, PLANS CAN CHANGE. A double album WILL NOT mean it will be a very long album... It may only be two groups of seven songs split over two CDs in order to be easily digested by the listener. It definitely will not be a self-indulgent album. It definitely is not a 'concept album.' Themes of life, healing and unity will run through some of the songs...

"We look forward to recording what I personally think will be a wonderful record after the tour. It is the first album we have made that will be truly complete. It will change lives. Hopefully beginning with ours."

DECAPITATED singer Adrian "Covan" Kowanek is continuing his recovery from injuries sustained late last month in a road collision. His family has released the following statement regarding his condition:

"Covan had an operation earlier this week, and his current condition is described by doctors as 'very serious, but stable.' He will remain in the hospital in Kraków [Poland], and visits from anyone other than family is still strictly prohibited at this time. IRON MAIDEN To Play First-Ever Stadium Show In UK

IRON MAIDEN To Play First-Ever Stadium Show In UK

British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN will playing their first-ever stadium show in the UK at the Twickenham Rugby Stadium in London on Saturday, July 5, 2008 as part of their Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 2008.

Despite headlining major UK festivals like Reading and Donington many times and selling out stadiums around the World, the band have never before elected to play a stadium in the UK and intend to make this first time a very special occasion. The 50,000-capacity celebrated home of English Rugby will be transformed into a MAIDEN mecca with fans travelling in from all parts of the country and further afield for this one and only UK show of 2008.

MAIDEN has consistently performed headline stadium shows outside the UK and "Maiden Mania" is currently gripping the world as tickets sales of the 2008 World tour fly out of the box offices in Australia, India, Japan, North and South America and now Europe with many shows selling out within only a few hours.

Comments bassist Steve Harris: "It could be a bit of an understatement to say how excited we all are to be playing this show next summer. We've got hell of a tour planned visiting old and new fans all over the world but as always it's great to get home and play here in London especially at such a prestigious stadium as Twickenham. Fans who travel out to Europe for our stadium shows there have for a while been asking us to play one here as the audience in a stadium is much closer to the band than at a big festival and can see so much better.

"As some people will know I am a big football fan but have heard much about what a great stadium Twickenham is from our rugby mad manager!! So l'm definitely looking forward to savouring that atmosphere We played a couple of nights at Earl's Court just before Christmas at the end of our last album tour and you always get such a great feeling playing at home with all your friends and family there. It's going to a fantastic occasion."

A full supporting bill for Twickenham will be announced shortly.

Tickets go on sale to the public on November 30, but members of the IRON MAIDEN fan club will get special and exclusive first access to purchase tickets on November 28.

Acclaimed Cover Artist MATTIAS NORÉN Quits Designing Artwork For Bands/Record Labels

Acclaimed Cover Artist MATTIAS NORÉN Quits Designing Artwork For Bands/Record Labels

Acclaimed Swedish cover artist Mattias Norén of ProgArt Media, which has done work for such artists as KAMELOT, EPICA, EVERGREY, INTO ETERNITY and AYREON, has decided to quit designing artwork for bands/record labels. His statement on the matter reads as follows:

"I have been running my CD artwork business for a few years now. I guess it's every artist's dream to be able to make a living out of something you really love to do. Unfortunately the music business has really suffered from all illegal downloading. Until about a year ago it didn't really hurt my business, but lately I have struggled with labels and artists asking me to do jobs for them and then they haven't been able to pay me in time… or pay at all. I have heard from other cover artists that they are having the same problems.

"When I'm writing this there are five labels/artists that owe me money that don't even bother answering my mails anymore. I have a family to feed here… this is simply not working anymore. I still love doing cover art and work with all those fantastic bands out there… but the 'business part' has sucked all energy out of me lately. So when a "real" job showed up I decided to take it with a start in January 2008.

"I will finish all projects I'm working on at the moment, and while doing this I won't take on any new projects AT ALL. After that ProgArt Media will be something that I can only spend a limited couple of hours a week on.

"The situation might change again in the future. I don't know. I just feel that this is what I want to do right now. I hope you can understand and respect my decision. I can tell you, it wasn't an easy one."

SCAR SYMMETRY: New Album Title Announced

SCAR SYMMETRY: New Album Title Announced

Swedish metallers SCAR SYMMETRY have issued the following update:

"We're back home from the Live Consternation North American tour, together with KATATONIA, INSOMNIUM and SWALLOW THE SUN. It's been an amazing month and we've had nothing but the best of times. We would like to sincerely thank everyone for coming out each night, checking us out, buying our merch, hanging out, sharing their beer with us and so on. Thank you all for being the coolest ever and for your kind support!

"As goes for what the future holds, we will begin recording our third album, starting December 1st. So far we have 13 songs written, but we're aiming to have another three or four done, before we start sifting through the material, deciding which songs to include on the album. The new disc will go under the name of 'Holographic Universe' and it will most likely see its release in the late spring of 2008, through Nuclear Blast Records.

"Also, out now is the Nuclear Blast All-Stars album Part II, 'Out Of The Dark', written by Peter Wichers (ex-SOILWORK) and featuring Christian Älvestam, among other singers. It's the second and last one of two albums to be released in support of Nuclear Blast 20th anniversary. Check it out!"

KORN Confirms New Touring Guitarist

KORN Confirms New Touring Guitarist

KORN frontman Jonathan Davis confirmed before his solo show in New York City on Tuesday night (November 13) that the guitarist in his backing band, Shane Gibson, will also join KORN as its touring guitarist for the group's upcoming European trek. Davis told The Pulse of Radio that not only is Gibson a great guitarist, but he reminds Davis of original KORN axeman Brian "Head" Welch. "Amazing shredder, can just do the most crazy, crazy, crazy stuff," he said. "And he really, really reminds me of Head. Not in his playing, more about just his presence and how he's so introverted and how he walks across the room and just everything seems to fall over. And it's kind of cool to have that energy back 'cause I miss that so much, 'cause I miss Head so much."

Gibson will take over for guitarist Clint Lowery, who toured with KORN throughout 2007 but left last month due to family issues.

Gibson will be joined on KORN's early 2008 trip to Europe by touring drummer Ray Luzier, formerly of the DAVID LEE ROTH band and ARMY OF ANYONE. Luzier takes over for Joey Jordison, who has also been touring with KORN but is now regrouping with SLIPKNOT to begin work on that group's next effort.

Davis kicked off his first-ever solo tour last week and plays Friday night (November 16) in Philadelphia.

OBITUARY Guitarist Says He Wrote One Song On New SEBASTIAN BACH Album

OBITUARY Guitarist Says He Wrote One Song On New SEBASTIAN BACH Album

OBITUARY guitarist Ralph Santolla (also ex-DEICIDE, ICED EARTH, SEBASTIAN BACH, DEATH) has issued the following update:

"I wrote a song on the new SEBASTIAN BACH record, 'Angel Down', which is coming out soon. The song is called 'You Bring Me Down', and you can check out audio samples at Amazon.com. I haven't heard the song or the record yet. I'm curious to see if he changed any of my music or lyrics. He changed the title from 'Down', for some reason, but I heard about that and registered the song under both names! It's a STARE song, from the band I'm working on with Johnny Leannarts (I'll call him Johnny Chromatic over my dead body!!!).

"Johnny doesn't seem to get much mention in all the postings about Sebastian online, but I hope this record changes that. He's an amazing guitarist, a great singer, and writes killer songs. When we finally get our STARE record out, people will be blown away by him. I'm glad I had the good sense to pluck him from obscurity and get him in that band! He's too busy hanging out with Axl [Rose] to thank me, though (Johnny, that is)."

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE: New Album Details Revealed

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE: New Album Details Revealed

Having spent most of the last two years taking over the world with massive European, U.S. and worldwide headline tours, supporting GUNS N' ROSES, METALLICA and IRON MAIDEN, playing main stage at almost every rock festival across the world, and seeing their 2006 debut album, "The Poison" — an album London's daily The Sun called "one of the finest debut albums in rock history" — sail past the million sales mark (350,000 in the U.S. alone), BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE is set to return with album number two, "Scream Aim Fire", due in the U.S. on January 29, 2008 (Jive/SonyBMG).

"Scream Aim Fire" was produced by Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, FEAR FACTORY) who also produced "The Poison", and was recorded at Sonic Ranch near El Paso, TX earlier this year. The eleven new songs are, according to frontman Matthew Tuck, "really melodic heavy metal...catchy, hooky choruses and full-on vocals, with the music being very in-your-face and heavy...it's a lot more uptempo [than 'The Poison'], a lot more aggressive."

An exclusive 15-minute digital single — a special sneak preview of "Scream Aim Fire" — will be available for download beginning December 18. Two of the album's tracks, "Eye of the Storm" plus the title cut, will be included, along with the band's Matt and Moose providing a behind-the-scenes track-by-track commentary about the album. The "Scream Aim Fire" digital single will sell for $1.98 and be available through all the major digital media services (iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, etc.).

The four-piece metal core band from Bridgend, South Wales, UK — Matthew "Matt" Tuck (vocals), Michael "Padge" Paget (guitar), Michael "Moose" Thomas (drums), and Jason "Jay" James (bass) — are, according to the UK's Kerrang!, well on their way to "phase two of world domination" with the new disc. For "The Poison", BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE graced the covers — at least once — of Kerrang!, Rock Sound, and Metal Hammer. In addition, they won Metal Hammer's 2006 "Golden God Award" for Best British Band, and the 2006 Kerrang! Award for "Best UK Single" for their track "Tears Don't Fall". Here in America, the band was named "British Import of the Year" in Revolver, and "The Poison" generated the hit singles "Tears Don't Fall" and "All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me)", with the video for "All These Things I Hate" going to the #1 spot on MTV2.

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE will headline a tour of the UK and Europe starting in late January, and will then head to the U.S. in late February. Details to be announces shortly.

Full track listing for "Scream Aim Fire" is as follows:

01. Scream Aim Fire
02. Eye of the Storm
03. Hearts Burst Into Fire
04. Waking the Demon
05. Disappear
06. Deliver Us From Evil
07. Take It Out On Me

NEVERMORE Frontman Reveals THE SISTERS OF MERCY Cover Track For Solo Debut

NEVERMORE Frontman Reveals THE SISTERS OF MERCY Cover Track For Solo Debut

NEVERMORE frontman Warrel Dane has revealed more information about THE SISTERS OF MERCY cover song that he has recorded for his upcoming solo debut, tentatively due in early 2008 via Century Media Records.

Said Dane: "OK, so since there's so much speculation about what SISTERS song it's going to be, I have to let the cat out of the bag. Every song on that record [1987's 'Floodland'] is great but 'Lucretia' has always been my favorite, 'Dominion' being a close second.

"Anyone that knows me knows that I have always loved old-school goth. 'Nu goth' is kind of boring. Matt Wicklund [former HIMSA guitarist who collaborated with Dane on a few songs for the upcoming CD] did a great job of making 'Lucretia' METAL."

Dane wrote about eight tracks for his solo debut with former SOILWORK guitarist-turned-producer Peter Wichers.

Songtitles set to appear on the CD include:

01. When We Pray
02. Messenger (featuring Jeff Loomis)
03. Obey
04. Let You Down (featuring Chris Broderick)
05. August
06. Feel Failure (Hail Yesterday)
07. Brother
08. Patterns (PAUL SIMON cover)
09. Praises To The War Machine (featuring James Murphy)
10. This Old Man
11. Lucretia (THE SISTERS OF MERCY cover)

According to Dane, "I'm still working on vocals for three more songs but don't want to reveal the titles yet."

NORTHER Signs With CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS

NORTHER Signs With CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS

Century Media Records has announced the signing of Finnish metal band NORTHER.

The history of NORTHER dates back to the year 1996 when Petri Lindroos (who also joined ENSIFERUM as lead vocalist/guitarist in 2004) and some friends started playing together under the moniker REQUIEM. In 2000 Kristian Ranta (guitar) stepped in and the band released its first demo. It subsequently led to a deal with Spinefarm Records and it did not take long for the guys to find Jukka Koskinen (bass, also in WINTERSUN) and Tuomas Planman (keyboards) to finally create a stable lineup for NORTHER. Within a few years NORTHER became one of the most promising Finnish bands combining the best of death, black and thrash metal with haunting melodies. The albums "Dreams of Endless War" (2002), "Mirror of Madness" (2003, licensed by Century Media Records for U.S. release), "Death Unlimited" (2004) and "Till Death Unites Us" (2006) helped to gather a worldwide fan base.

In 2007, NORTHER left Spinefarm Records to release the "No Way Back" EP, which entered the Finnish charts at #1 and marked the debut for drum talent Heikki Saari. Summer 2007 was highlighted by a successful Wacken Open Air show, followed by an European headliner club tour in October and further progress on completing their new album.

The band's Century Media debut was recorded and produced by longtime partner Anssi Kippo (CHILDREN OF BODOM) at Astia Studios and mixed by Fredrik Nordström (DARK TRANQUILLITY, ARCH ENEMY, IN FLAMES) at Studio Fredman in Sweden. The as-yet-untitled CD will be released in February 2008 and will be presented live at the renowned Finnish Metal Expo on February 16, 2008 in Helsinki.

Commented the band: "NORTHER is very excited to announce that we are now a part of the Century Media family. We have been working hard on our new album for months now, and currently we are finishing the mastering and artwork. All members of NORTHER are very excited about this new contract as well as the forthcoming album which presents a new found power that we all are very proud of. The album will be released in early 2008, stay posted for exact dates. We are anxious to get this album released through a big label and tour the world like never before. Looking forward to meeting you all at the shows!"

NORTHER lineup:

Kristian Ranta: Guitars, Clean Vocals
Petri Lindroos: Guitars, Vocals
Jukka Koskinen: Bass
Tuomas Planman: Keyboards

HELLOWEEN Bassist To Release Heavy Rock Album With No Guitars

Frontiers Records will release the debut album from Markus Grosskopf's (HELLOWEEN) BASSINVADERS, entitled "Hellbassbeaters", on January 25, 2008.

BASSINVADERS was a creation of Markus' while sitting in a bar and enjoying a few drinks. It was there that he got inspired to produce a heavy rock record without any guitars at all. He presented this concept in early 2007 to Frontiers Records, which was intrigued by the idea and gave it a go.

HATESPHERE Announces New Singer

HATESPHERE Announces New Singer

Danish thrashers HATESPHERE have issued the following update:

"New singer: After having received close to one hundred submissions from around the globe, it's with great pleasure that we are finally able to unveil the new frontman. 19 year-old Jonathan 'Joller' Albrechtsen. This guy, a Copenhagen native, showed up and performed a stunning display of brutal power and basically screamed the shit out of all the other applicants. Needless to say, we are more than excited and can't wait to get back out there.

New video: The track 'Floating' from our latest album 'Serpent Smiles And Killer Eyes' has made its way to the big screen and will premier this weekend at the Danish Metal Awards show. Director Casper Balslev, along with photographer Steen Linde and producer Theis Mortensen, managed to come up with some very unique visuals portraying a group of people, banging their heads into oblivion. The result is nothing but amazing and we are thrilled with the result.

"Live chat: In cooperation with Danish website Nation X, we will participate in a live chat on December 3rd, where we will answer questions and talk to fans. To take part in the chat simply go to www.nationx.dk click the 'HateSphere chat' sign. You don't need to be a member to join the fun! So see you there!"

SATARIEL:

SATARIEL: 'White Ink' Tentative Track Listing Revealed

Swedish metallers SATARIEL have set "White Ink" as the title of their new full-length album. The CD, which will will likely feature ten new songs, "will continue in the sound of [the band's mini-CD] 'Chifra', which was released earlier this year, but probably will have a little more aggressivity and 'evil' added to it this time, as the lyrics pretty much demand that this time around," the band writes in a press release. "Also — a new songwriter is now found in SATARIEL — namely [guitarist] Simon Johansson (of MEMORY GARDEN) who replaces Mikael Granqvist. This will surely add a new aspect to the sound, as he is a great composer!"

"White Ink" projected track listing (not final sequence):

01. Die Letzten Tage
02. What Never (Came)
03. First Fly of April
04. White Ink
05. The Pendulum
06. Harken, O Shadows
07. Rise of the Black Titan
08. Astarte (Lighthouse Magnitudes)
09. The Ironcore
10. Via Negativa

"Chifra" was mixed by Daniel Bergstrand (IN FLAMES, MESSHUGGAH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD) and Magnus Alakangas at Dug-Out Studios in Uppsala, Sweden and features artwork and layout by Pär Johansson. Lyrically, the CD is said to be "a sort of ending of the concept which was the basis" for SATARIEL's third album, "Hydra", according to a statement from the band.
