Audio: NIRVANA And JOAN JETT Rehearse 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'
 A short audio clip of the surviving members of NIRVANA and Joan Jett rehearsing the NIRVANA classic "Smells Like Teen Spirit" last night (Wednesday, April 9) is available in the YouTube clip. The footage was recorded by a reporter for Alternative Nation, who was roaming the halls of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York in advance of tonight’s Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame festivities at the venue.
A clue about the Jett and NIRVANA pairing first emerged on Tuesday (April 8) when a photo posted on at the NIRVANA Facebook page showed Dave Grohl's drum kit, Krist Novoselic's bass, Pat Smear's guitar and what appears to be a guitar belonging to Jett.
According to The Pulse Of Radio, Dave Grohl and Jett have some history together, with Grohl and his FOO FIGHTERS bandmates performing with her on a segment of "Late Show With David Letterman" a while back.
R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe will induct NIRVANA at Thursday night's ceremony, which will take place at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The Pulse Of Radio asked Charles R. Cross, NIRVANA's biographer, what late frontman Kurt Cobain might have thought about being inducted into the Hall Of Fame. "Kurt won awards when he was alive, he won MTV Music Awards, he did go to those ceremonies, he did give speeches," he said. "You know, at the same time, it was an uncomfortable relationship for Kurt. So my feeling is, he would have been honored to have been included with so many legends that he loved, and he was a student of rock history, so to be there I think he would have appreciated. At the same time, I think he would have managed to say the most sarcastic things possible as he was accepting that award."
Last Saturday (April 5) marked the 20th anniversary of Cobain's death from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Accepting at the induction ceremony will be Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, who has a longstanding feud with Grohl and Novoselic over the use of NIRVANA's music.

ENTHRONED: Entire 'Sovereigns' Album Available For Streaming
 "Sovereigns", the new studio album from Belgium's leading black metal force ENTHRONED, can be streamed in its entirety using the SoundCloud widget below. The follow-up to 2012's critically acclaimed "Obsidium" is scheduled for an April 15 release via Agonia Records. "Sovereigns" drifts from sonic blast beats to oppressive slower parts, melds together aggressive shredding with forceful riffs, and blends satanic whispers with Nornagest's trademark vocals. On the whole, band's 10th album feels coherent and offers first-rate black metal. The album introduces a new drummer, Menthor, in the place of Garghuf and a new rhythm guitarist ZarZax.
"Sovereigns" was recorded and mixed in ENTHRONED's own studio, Blackout Multimedia. TOMAHAWK To Release 'M.E.A.T.' Seven-Inch Single
 Two extra tracks from the sessions for "Oddfellows", the 2013 album from TOMAHAWK — the alt-rock supergroup featuring Duane Denison (THE JESUS LIZARD, UNSEMBLE), Mike Patton (FAITH NO MORE, FANTÔMAS), John Stanier (BATTLES, HELMET) and Trevor Dunn (MELVINS LITE, MR. BUNGLE) — will be made available as a limited-edition seven-inch single on May 13. The digital release for "M.E.A.T." is set for June 4.
TOMAHAWK's first CD in over six years, "Oddfellows" sold 5,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release.
TOMAHAWK's video for the "Oddfellows" title track can be seen below. The live clip, which features an assortment of animation and appropriately odd graphics, was filmed and animated by Vincent Forcier.
In a November 2012 interview with Nashville Scene, Denison stated about "Oddfellows", "Some of this album is, to me, fairly straightforward hard rock, and then some of it is ... I don't know what you'd call it — avant-pop or something? If anything, I think the album is a bit hookier and has bigger choruses than anything we've done. There's a lot of group vocals from song to song, almost these Greek choruses showing up. To me, it's kind of depressing when I go see a band or hear a record where the songs all have a similar rhythmic feel or the vocals always start on the downbeat. At the same time, you don't want things to be so different that it doesn't even sound like it's the same band. You want it to sound like it's the same people with the same point of view — you're just expressing it in a different way."
TOMAHAWK was dormant for five years after releasing a trio of albums: "Tomahawk" in 2001, "Mit Gas" in 2003 and "Anonymous" in 2007.

DEMON HUNTER: 'I Will Fail You' Video Released
 "I Will Fail You", the new video from Seattle-based Christian metallers DEMON HUNTER, can be seen below. The song is taken from the band's seventh album, "Extremist", which sold around 18,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 16 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on March 18 via Solid State.
"'I Will Fail You' is about the scrutiny that a band like ours of tends falls under," DEMON HUNTER frontman Ryan Clark says. "No matter how many times we blatantly express our beliefs, there will always be someone ready to destroy their collection of DEMON HUNTER albums if they suspect we're not as 'holy' as they’ve managed to project. The obvious problem with this is that no one is truly holy, and we're all in need of perpetual forgiveness — a defining theme of what this band has been about from the beginning."

DEMON HUNTER's sixth album, "True Defiance", opened with 12,500 units back in April 2011 to land at No. 36.
In an interview with Jesus Wired, DEMON HUNTER lead singer Ryan Clark stated about "Extremist": "I can say that it's a very mature record for us. It spans a lot of territory — so it's anything but a one-dimensional record, and I hope that's appreciated. The good thing is that it's 12 songs (14 on the deluxe)… no filler… no instrumentals… so there' a lot of varying material."
He added: "Like every DEMON HUNTER record, there are a variety of styles happening on 'Extremist'. Usually, the first few songs that we release show as much of that variety as possible. With that said, there are a bunch of songs that are just as heavy as 'Artificial Light', if not heavier. There are a few songs that are melodic and moody, like 'I Will Fail You'. And there are also songs that fit somewhere in the middle… the way that 'The Last One Alive' does. If you compare these songs to some of our material in the past, say 'God Forsaken', 'Dead Flowers' and 'Fading Away', respectively, then you'll see that it's not necessarily new ground… I think the important factor is that they're hopefully better… more mature… catchier… more interesting… creative… thought-provoking."

LED ZEPPELIN: Preview Unreleased Live Tracks From Deluxe Reissue Of Debut Album
 John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant came together in 1968 as LED ZEPPELIN. Over the next decade, the band would become one of the most influential, innovative and successful groups in modern music, selling more than 300 million albums worldwide. Their songs are some of the most celebrated in rock 'n' roll history that, to this day, resonate with fans young and old around the globe. Still, no matter how many times you may have listened to their music, you've never heard LED ZEPPELIN like this before.
With the June 3 release of deluxe editions of "Led Zeppelin", "Led Zeppelin II" and "Led Zeppelin III", the band will launch an extensive reissue program of all nine of its studio albums in chronological order, each remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page. LED ZEPPELIN will also open its vaults to share dozens of unheard studio and live recordings, with each album featuring a second disc of companion audio comprised entirely of unreleased music related to that album.
"The material on the companion discs presents a portal to the time of the recording of LED ZEPPELIN," says Page. "It is a selection of work in progress with rough mixes, backing tracks, alternate versions, and new material recorded at the time"

The LED ZEPPELIN legend began in January of 1969 with the group's eponymous debut. From the opening salvo of "Good Times Bad Times", on through to "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", "Communication Breakdown" and "Dazed And Confused", the album introduced the band's unmistakable sound and left an indelible mark on the music landscape. "Led Zeppelin" has been certified diamond by the RIAA for sales over 10 million and was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 2004.
The companion audio for "Led Zeppelin" features a previously unreleased performance recorded on October 10, 1969 at the Olympia Theatre in Paris. The nine-song set features seven tracks from the album, including an epic 15-minute version of "Dazed And Confused", as well as "Heartbreaker" and "Moby Dick", which would debut on "Led Zeppelin II" later that month.
The band wrote and recorded nearly all of "Led Zeppelin II" while touring relentlessly to support its debut album. Incredibly, the album was released just seven months after "Led Zeppelin" in October of 1969. "Led Zeppelin II" features some of the band's most beloved tracks including "Ramble On" and "Heartbreaker" as well as "Whole Lotta Love", considered by many to be one of the greatest rock 'n' roll songs of all time. The album is certified diamond by the RIAA with sales of over 12 million copies.
The "Led Zeppelin II" companion audio gives fans the first peek into the band's recording sessions, with alternate mixes of five songs from the album, backing tracks to "Thank You" and "Living Loving Maid (She's Just A Woman)", and the previously unreleased track "La La".
Following the whirlwind success of their first two albums and near constant touring, Page and Plant took to the now famous Bron-Yr-Aur cottage in Wales in 1970 to start the early composition of "Led Zeppelin III". They later convened with Bonham and Jones for rehearsals before entering London's Olympic Studios to begin recording in May 1970. Fueled by classic tracks such as "Immigrant Song" and "Since I've Been Loving You", the album soared to the top of charts worldwide upon its release in October of 1970 and has since been certified six times platinum.
The nine tracks featured on "Led Zeppelin III"'s companion audio continue to offer a window into the band's recording process with seven studio outtakes of songs from the album as well as three previously unheard compositions: "Jennings Farm Blues" (an instrumental forerunner of "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp"), "Bathroom Sound" (an instrumental version of "Out On The Tiles"), and their take on the blues classics "Keys To The Highway/Trouble In Mind".
LED ZEPPELIN continues to be honored for its pivotal role in music history. The band was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1995, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, and a year later was awarded with the Polar Music Prize in Stockholm. Founding members Jones, Page and Plant — along with Jason Bonham, the son of John Bonham — took the stage at London's O2 Arena in 2007 to headline a tribute concert for Ahmet Ertegun, a dear friend and Atlantic Records' founder. The band was honored for its lifetime contribution to American culture at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012. In January of 2014, the band won their first ever Grammy Award as "Celebration Day", which captured their live performance at the Ertegun tribute concert, was named "Best Rock Album."

Page told The Pulse Of Radio that after all the success LED ZEPPELIN had, the real reward has been that the music has lasted so long. "The most satisfying, the most rewarding part of it, is having been part of music like that, which has stood up to the test of time," he said. "Every musician hopes that their music will hold up. And it's wonderful."
Page, who produced all of LED ZEPPELIN's live and studio albums, has served as the band's chief archivist and personally oversaw the remastering of the band's catalog back in the early '90s.

AMBERIAN DAWN: 'Magic Forest' Release Date Announced
 Finnish female-fronted symphonic metal band AMBERIAN DAWN will release its new album, "Magic Forest", on July 8 (one day earlier internationally) via Napalm Records.
Says AMBERIAN DAWN songwriter Tuomas Seppälä: "I'm very glad about this new deal with Napalm Records. I'm sure that our cooperation will be successful and enjoyable. This label showed interest in us at the very beginning of our career so I feel very comfortable working with this great label today! Together with our booking agency/management Twisted Talent Concerts, we're surely going to make something happen here.
"New album, 'Magic Forest', is AMBERIAN DAWN's first studio album with singer Capri. Now with her I've been able to fullfill some of my early dreams with musical styles and this new style is really big, fresh and naturally flowing. New sound is more keyboard-driven and the vocal lines have some strong influence of 1980s. AMBERIAN DAWN released a compilation album of songs that originally appeared on their first four albums — "Circus Black" (2012), "End Of Eden" (2010), "The Clouds Of Northland Thunder" (2009) and "River Of Tuoni" (2008) — to showcase new singer Päivi "Capri" Virkkunen after the departure of Heidi Parviainen. "Re-Evolution" was made available on June 14, 2013 in Finland, distributed by Suomen Musiikki.
"Re-Evolution" was mixed by Mikko Mustonen and mastered by Henkka Niemisto at Chartmakers.
AMBERIAN DAWN parted ways with vocalist Heidi Parviainen in November 2012. Her final appearance with the band was at the Metal Female Voices Fest at the end of October 2012 in Belgium.

XANDRIA: Audio Samples Of Entire 'Sacrificium' Album
 Audio samples of all the tracks that are set to appear on "Sacrificium", the sixth album from German symphonic metallers XANDRIA, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. The CD will be released on May 6 (one day earlier internationally) via Napalm Records. According to the band, the follow-up to 2012's "Neverworld's End" will "continue the musical journey and direction" of the last CD but "will bring in even more of everything people liked" about "Neverworld's End".

XANDRIA last fall parted ways with their singer of three years, Manuela Kraller. Her replacement is the "astonishing 28-year-old Dutch talent" Dianne Van Giersbergen, who also fronts the progressive metal outfit EX LIBRIS.
Said Manuela in a statement: "After three years with the boys in XANDRIA, I decided to follow a different path and go my own musical way."
The sympathethic Bavarian singer left with regret but also full of gratitude, thanking band and fans for the time they had together and being grateful for the "wonderful moments in mutual tours and shows." Manuela also wished Dianne and band "all the very best for the future!"
Dianne Van Giersbergen made her live debut with XANDRIA at the end of November 2013 on a Spanish tour.
Fans had a last chance to see Kraller singing with XANDRIA in October 2013 in Leipzig, Germany and Pratteln, Switzerland, where she performed at the Masters Of Symphonic Metal festival at Z7.

Video: PRONG Performs New Song 'Turnover' In Manchester
 A two-camera mix of PRONG performing a brand new song, "Turnover", on April 2 in Manchester, England can be seen below.
PRONG's new album, "Ruining Lives", will be released through Steamhammer/SPV in Scandinavia on April 23, in Germany on April 25, in the rest of Europe on April 28 and in the U.S./Canada on May 13. It will be made available as a limited digipak version including one bonus track and poster, as a double gatefold colored vinyl version including one bonus track and the CD in cardboard sleeve, as a standard version and download.

CRIMSON SHADOWS Signs With NAPALM RECORDS
 Toronto, Ontario, Canada-based epic death/power metallers CRIMSON SHADOWS have signed a deal with the Austrian record label Napalm Records. The band entered Silverwing Studios in Montreal last month with producers Jonathan Lefrançois and Jee Gagnon to record the follow-up to 2013's EP "Sails Of Destiny". The CD will be mixed by Eyal Levi of Audiohammer Studios.
As the winners of the 2013 international battle for Wacken Open Air festival in Germany, CRIMSON SHADOWS is fresh off a triumphant year and started 2014 strong with a recent first run in the United States with thrash band BATTLECROSS.
"Our new songs show a progression of the band as we have been through a lot over the past few years," says CRIMSON SHADOWS drummer Cory Hofing.
"With a full-length and an EP behind us, we look forward to this new record and working with Jo and Jee at Silverwing Studios to make these songs truly come to life, and have Eyal provide the finishing touches.

DEATHSTARS: First Trailer For 'The Perfect Cult' Album
 Swedish industrial rock band DEATHSTARS will release its long-anticipated fourth studio album, "The Perfect Cult", on June 13 via Nuclear Blast. The follow-up to 2009's "Night Electric Night" was captured in several studios: drums, guitars and bass were recorded at Bohus Sound Recording in Kungälv, Sweden; vocals at Gig Studios in Stockholm, Sweden; and keyboards, orchestration and editing was done at Black Syndicate in Stockholm. The mix, as usual, was handled by Stefan Glaumann (RAMMSTEIN, WITHIN TEMPTATION), while DEATHSTARS guitarist/keyboardist Emil "Nightmare Industries" Nödtveidt took care of the production. For the drum, guitar and bass production, Nightmare worked with Roberto Laghi (ENTOMBED, IN FLAMES) at Bohus Sound Recording. The mastering was handled by Svante Forsbäck (VOLBEAT, RAMMSTEIN) at Chartmakers in Helsinki, Finland. As far as the lyrics are concerned, vocalist Andreas "Whiplasher Bernadotte" Bergh states that "all the tracks are about our lives. Each song is a reflection on a situation or a topic that deals with our experiences, usually from a jet black perspective."
With visions inspired by amoral excessive lives, human fears and decay, the songs will be nothing less than a dark playground set between straight forward tracks, atmospheric anthems and the unwashed loins of lawless rock. "Night Electric Night" landed at position No. 51 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. The CD, which was mixed at Toytown studios in Stockholm, Sweden with Stefan Glaumann, was made available in Europe in a deluxe package called "Gold Edition" featuring bonus tracks as well as a bonus DVD featuring six video clips, "making-of" footage and more. The "Gold Edition" was released as a digibook with new cover artwork.

THE WINERY DOGS: Listen To Live Version Of 'Criminal' From Special Edition of Debut Album
 THE WINERY DOGS — the power trio featuring drummer Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, ADRENALINE MOB), legendary bassist Billy Sheehan (MR. BIG, TALAS, DAVID LEE ROTH) and guitarist/vocalist Richie Kotzen (MR. BIG, POISON) — will release two new special versions of its self-titled debut album. Set for release on April 15, "The Winery Dogs Special Edition" will consist of two-CDs. Disc 1 is the standard album and Disc 2 is entitled "Unleashed In Japan 2013", featuring 10 songs recorded live in Japan during the band's July 2013 tour, including "Criminal", a track previously unavailable in the U.S., along with a 16-page booklet of live photos and lyrics. A deluxe package for die-hard fans will be released simultaneously. "Dog Treats: The Winery Dogs Deluxe Special Edition" will be sold in a box resembling a box of dog treats, and will include the "Special Edition" collection of music, a DVD featuring four music videos and interview footage, demos from the original recording sessions, a "studio diary" written by Mike Portnoy, as well as some unique merchandise unavailable elsewhere.

THE WINERY DOGS' self-titled debut album sold around 10,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 27 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released in North America on July 23, 2013 via Loud & Proud Records and in Japan on May 15, 2013 via Victor Entertainment, the CD was mixed by Jay Ruston, who has previously worked with ANTHRAX, ADRENALINE MOB, STONE SOUR and STEEL PANTHER.
"Bands like [LED] ZEPPELIN and THE WHO, THE [ROLLING] STONES, and THE BEATLES, CREAM, and [Jimi] Hendrix. I mean, I grew up with that stuff," Portnoy told Voice Of America. "And, although I've been able to pay tribute to it throughout my career with tribute bands and things like that, I've never been in an all-original band that was kind of playing classic rock power trio stuff. That's how I describe this band: just a straight-up rock band."
Regarding the songwriting process for THE WINERY DOGS' album, Portnoy said: "In all cases, the music was the very first element and from there, Richie would start melodies on top of it. Sometimes the final lyrics were there, coming up on the spot, and other times he would take the melodies and write lyrics later. There were a couple of examples of Richie having something and bringing it in. In those cases, like 'Damaged' and 'Regret', we just left them. Because in those two particular cases, the songs were great as they were."
Portnoy was full of praise for his THE WINERY DOGS bandmates, telling Voice Of America: "Billy Sheehan is my favorite bass player on earth and he has been for almost 30 years now. So to work with him and make music with him for me is an honor. And Richie is someone I have the utmost respect for as an artist. I mean, he is just so underappreciated, not only as a guitarist, but as a singer and a writer as well. I think for me, the most exciting aspect of this band is for people to discover Richie that aren't aware of what a musical genius he is."

Video: TESLA Performs New Song 'Ricochet' On MONSTERS OF ROCK Cruise
 Fan-filmed video footage of California rockers TESLA performing a brand new song, "Ricochet", on March 30 aboard the Monsters Of Rock cruise can be seen below.
TESLA in February entered the studio to record eight or nine new songs, to be included on the band's forthcoming album, titled "Simplicity". TESLA guitarist Frank Hannon stated about the studio sessions: "We went in more prepared with the songs and ideas way more than 'Forevermore', and the style is pure TESLA back to our roots." He added: "The band is working and producing it as we did 'Into The Now'... with help from the legendary Tom Zutaut, who helped us make our best albums.
"The opening track is called 'MP3' and starts off with an opus intro that orchestrates into a heavy slow groove with lyrics about technology and how we miss simplicity, vinyl albums, family values... and has a heavy-ass riff! Then we segue into a rock and roll song called 'Ricochet' that talks about Uncle Ted.""Can't wait to play this stuff live!"
A new TESLA song, "Taste My Pain", was released last summer via iTunes and Amazon. The track was recorded during a two-day (June 5-6, 2013) session at J Street Recorders in Sacramento, with plans to include it on the upcoming CD. According to the group, "It's a heavier song with a hard-driving beat and TESLA trademark blazing guitars."
TESLA's latest album, "Twisted Wires And The Acoustic Sessions", was released in July 2011 via Scarlet Records. The CD featured six songs that were recorded back in 2005 at bassist Brian Wheat's J Street Recorders studio — which also served as the last recordings with original member Tommy Skeoch — and six newly recorded tracks, including acoustic remakes of songs from TESLA's entire catalog and two brand new songs, "Second Street" and "Better Off Without You".
TESLA released a live album, "Alive In Europe!", in Europe on April 23, 2010 via Frontiers Records.
TESLA's latest studio album, "Forever More", sold more than 16,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 33 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on October 7, 2008 on Tesla Electric Company Recordings. The relentless, Swedish heavy metal monster known as PORTRAIT was born in the year 2006 with the intention to exterminate the entire world. After the release of a demo, two singles and their self-titled full-length debut, PORTRAIT released its Metal Blade debut, "Crimen Laesae Majestatis Divinae", in 2011. After numerous tours and festival appearances, the band began to focus on its third album, entitled "Crossroads". The writing and recording process took about a year, and Tore Stjerna of Necromorbus Studio handled the production together with the band.

 Having returned from a triumphant co-headlining Australia/New Zealand jaunt with NINE INCH NAILS, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE have wasted no time in teaming with director Hiro Murai (CHILDISH GAMBINO, ST. VINCENT) for the just-unveiled cinematic mini-epic for "Smooth Sailing", the latest single from the band's most recent album, "...Like Clockwork" (Matador).

LINKIN PARK: 'The Hunting Party' Cover Artwork Unveiled
 The cover artwork for LINKIN PARK's sixth studio album, titled "The Hunting Party", can be seen below (courtesy of Noisey). Due on June 17, the CD follows up 2012's "Living Things" and is the first LINKIN PARK album produced by thebandmembers themselves.
LINKIN PARK "leaked" its new single, called "Guilty All The Same", through the Shazam mobile music search app on March 6. The song features rapper Rakim and also includes something that singer Chester Bennington admitted we didn't hear much of on the last two LINKIN PARK records — guitars. "The guitars are back, for sure," he told The Pulse Of Radio. "We challenged ourselves to get that 16, 17-year-old kid that was like so excited about what was going on in rock music — we wanted that kid to be excited again. And that was something that we feel, right now, I mean, with all the great music that's out right now, there seems to be this vacancy for that kind of music — really aggressive, really energetic music that just kind of doesn't exist right now."
LINKIN PARK recently announced that it will head out on a co-headlining North American tour with 30 SECONDS TO MARS dubbed the "Carnivores Tour". Joining LINKIN PARK and 30 SECONDS TO MARS on the tour will be AFI.
The road trip kicks off on August 8 in West Palm Beach, Florida, with dates booked through September 19 in Concord, California.

When BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION disbanded, Hughes and Bonham had a strong desire to keep playing together. Their only challenge was finding a new guitarist worthy of their musicality. Easier said than done for these stars who between them have worked with some of the greatest guitarists in history — including Ritchie Blackmore, Tony Iommi, Jimmy Page and Joe Bonamassa, to name just a few. Then fate took a hand in things when Glenn's friend Julian Lennon introduced him to the astounding talents of a New York City hotshot guitarist named Andrew Watt. "Literally, the first day me and Andrew got together we wrote two songs," recalls Glenn. "One was 'Chemical Rain' and the other was 'Solo', both of which are now on the finished album. I was so moved by the music, I said, 'We've got to record this!' That's when I called Jason."
"I was excited from the start," says Jason, "because apart from locking in as a rhythm section, Glenn and I had started writing together in BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, and we wanted to continue that." "There was such energy in the room the first time we all played together, me and Glenn didn't even have to talk about it," says Jason. "He was so exited to be playing, though, it was infectious! He was just on stage! No going through the motions, kicking the chair over, everything! I was like, you know what, this kid is a free spirit. It was cool, we all just clicked straight away." "Nothing though has gotten into my blood like CALIFORNIA BREED," says Glenn. "I feel the same way," says Jason. "I feel like a kid again starting out." Recording with Dave Cobb at the producer's own studio in Nashville, added all the finishing touches, says Glenn. "I'd gotten into Dave's work via the RIVAL SONS, who I know and really love. But Dave has done a lot of great stuff. That whole Nashville trip which Dave is a part of. Well, me and Jason don't want to sound like anyone else, we already sound like ourselves, but we felt we needed some fresh energy — and Dave absolutely brought it." At Cobb's insistence, every vocal was recorded live as the band was playing. "Totally the reverse of what I'm used to," says Glenn. "But I went into that aggressive rock soulfulness and everything down to the whispers, it was all done live! I enjoyed myself so much, just going for it." For what is on paper a three-piece, the sheer range of sounds and melodies you get from CALIFORNIA BREED are breathtaking. "I'm the oddball of the group but I'm the thing that makes us different from any other classic rock band. I grew up loving grunge music," explains Andrew. "But my father always played me THE WHO and THE BEATLES and LED ZEPPELIN. I always felt like I was in the wrong generation. I used to make rock music on my own and I'd play all the instruments because I could never find anyone my age that really got it the way I heard it. Then I got to play with Jason and Glenn and I haven't picked up anything but a guitar since!" "What we've got here is a kid who isn't a hammer-on, virtuoso," says Glenn, "but a whole new entity. This kid grew up listening to Mick Ronson on Bowie's records, as well as Jimmy Page in LED ZEPPELIN. He has a completely different take. And it's fresh and bold and so exciting. It just gets into your blood."

Video: AEROSMITH Joined By SLASH For Whisky A Go Go Performance
 AEROSMITH performed a concert earlier today (Tuesday, April 8) at the famous Whisky A Go Go, a West Hollywood club they last played in 1973. The half-hour, invite-only show was part of a press event announcing the band's upcoming "Let Rock Rule" North America tour with legendary GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash, who made a special guest appearance during the set. Included in the concert were a couple of 1970s gems, "Draw The Line" and "Same Old Song And Dance", followed by the 1997 hit "Pink" and the 1975 classic "Walk This Way" before Slash joined AEROSMITH on stage for "Mama Kin" and an abbreviated, instrumental version of GUNS N' ROSES' "Welcome To The Jungle". Slash also stuck around for a performance of the 1950s blues classic "Train Kept A-Rollin'".

The excitement all started when Joe Perry took it to the streets with Risk, the famous graffiti artist, last Thursday night for "Let Rock Rule" and things began ramping up mysteriously when the AEROSMITH logo, and the tour announcement date of 4.8.14, was bombed on various buildings in downtown Los Angeles by Joe Perry and Risk. Following this, AEROSMITH drummer Joey Krammer stepped up the momentum and went to Downtown Austin with street artist Chunk to continue the "Let Rock Rule" tagging.
Perry says: "I have always felt that AEROSMITH was America's hometown band and what better way than to take matters into our own hands to spread the word."
AEROSMITH's North American summer dates will follow the band's overseas dates, kicking off May 14 in Istanbul, Turkey and will hit 16 countries including stops in Russia, France, and the U.K. before wrapping July 2 in Kiev, Ukraine.

 TIAMAT mainman Johan Edlund has released the following statement via the band's Facebook page:
"I have decided to leave TIAMAT. My health, etc., doesn't work any longer.
"I say 'leave,' because I don't claim anything TIAMAT.
"If the other guys wanna continue, fine. Go ahead. Get a great good-looking vocalist, sign to Century Media and just do it. But I'm out and not even interested apart from wishing all the best for the band. All contracts and such will be handed out to Anders [Iwers, bass], Lars [Sköld, drums] and Roger [Öjersson, guitar], if they're into it. I want nothing from this.
"I was spoiled too much of being an adult. Give someone a better chance.
"I will do the four festivals we have booked for the summer.
"Face it, there are other bands, plus even TIAMAT might get better!
"Love, my brothers, and thank YOU for your support! KISSES!"

TIAMAT's tenth studio album, "The Scarred People", entered the official chart in Sweden at position No. 11.
"The Scarred People" was recorded at Woodhouse Studios in Hagen, Germany with producer Siggi Bemm. The CD cover artwork was created by Johan Edlund.
In a 2013 interview with Metal Underground, Edlund stated about the musical direction of "The Scarred People": "We're happy being TIAMAT; that's the only label we put on ourselves. In fact, TIAMAT is by far our own biggest influence. We often quote ourselves, what we've done in the past, when needed in the studio. There are a lot of elements both in the music and in the lyrics that we have developed over the years that feel genuinely TIAMAT, be it a clean electric guitar sound, a special way of drum patterns, certain ways to express lyrics. We often go back there and sample ourselves, so to speak."

FU MANCHU: New Song 'Invaders On My Back' Available For Streaming
 Southern California hard rock mainstays FU MANCHU will release their new album, "Gigantoid", on April 29 via the band's own At The Dojo Records.
After almost 25 years together, and following last year's Scion A/V Club split seven-inch single with friends MOAB and 2009's "Signs Of Infinite Power", Scott Hill and company return with their first full-length album in close to five years. Recorded with Andrew Giacumakis, singer/guitarist for the aforementioned MOAB at his studio in Simi Valley, California, the album features a slightly more primitive, raw and ultra fuzzed-out sound than previous releases.
"We wrote 17 new songs for this record and got our favorite 9 songs out of that together," says Hill. "We were planning on releasing a 'part 2' record later this year but have plans for some of the other songs to appear in early 2015 to line up with our upcoming 25-year anniversary."
In addition to the new release, the band has announced a month-long North American tour, taking the band to both coasts, and throughout the majority of the country (as well as into select cities in Canada).

Writing for the album began in the summer of 2012, with a break for a tour of Europe in the fall of that year and a U.S. tour in the spring of 2013, reissuing and playing "The Action Is Go" LP in its entirety and an appearance at METALLICA's Orion Music + More festival in June 2013. FU MANCHU soon found itself with enough material for two albums.
A hint of what the new songs will sound like was released in October in the form of "Robotic Invasion", a split seven-inch single with MOAB, presented by Scion.
Slower, longer and heavier than most of the recent material the band has released, the new songs find FU MANCHU exploring different time changes and heavy sonics that the band is known for, with some atmospheric and conceptual lyrics and artwork that will hopefully be tying one, if not two, new records together that the band hopes will be released this year.
FU MANCHU's first full-length, "No One Rides For Free", has been reissued on At The Dojo as a gatefold vinyl. The record celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

Video: LOUDNESS Performs New Song 'Immortality' On MONSTERS OF ROCK Cruise
 Fan-filmed video footage of Japanese metallers LOUDNESS performing a brand new song, "Immortality", from their upcoming studio album, on March 31 aboard the Monsters Of Rock cruise, can be seen below.
LOUDNESS released its 25th studio album, "2012", in August 2012 via Tokuma Communications.
The band in 2012 inked a deal with FrostByte Media for the release of the "Eve To Dawn" outside Japan. The CD was originally made available in the group's home country in September 2011.
LOUDNESS released a CD+DVD set entitled "Live Loudest At The Budokan '91" on December 23, 2009 via Warner Music Japan. The album was recorded on May 31, 1991 in Tokyo, Japan and features Mike Vescera (OBSESSION, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) on vocals.
In a 2012 interview with Examiner.com, LOUDNESS singer Minoru Niihara stated about the band's songwriting process: "First we have basic concepts and ideas for songs in Japanese and translate them into English. After that, we work with English-speaking songwriters. Then the songwriters will read lyrics and record them for us for pronunciation and intonation. We listen to them over and over to master them. It takes time to master them all, but in the studio I sing them so many times, recording, that I can sing them by heart by the time the recording is done. Memorizing songs for live performances is the same both in English and Japanese."
He added: "The hardest thing is pronunciation. My English has a heavy accent and not that great, but that is sort of my signature, I think. To make it easier, I just have to practice. Performing on the stage over the years has given me poise and self-confidence."
Asked about LOUDNESS' current drummer Masayuki Suzuki, who replaced the late Munetaka Higuchi in 2008, Niihara said: "His nickname is Ampan. Akira [Takasaki, guitar] jammed with Ampan in Sapporo and felt that he is 'our guy' and brought him to Tokyo to do an audition. [Bassist] Masayoshi [Yamashita] and I had never heard of him or seen him perform before he came to Tokyo with Akira. I loved his powerful playing style once I saw him in the audition and also loved the fact that it was very different from Munetaka's. Because Munetaka was such a great drummer, I understand that Ampan is constantly under pressure from being compared to him, but I believe he's the best at what he does and is a wonderful drummer."
He added: "Before he joined LOUDNESS, [Ampan] was working as a music producer and has written lots of songs in many different styles. He’s already written various songs from thrash metal to beautiful ballads for the band. Also, as a drummer he's brought the band a new groove. After Munetaka's passing, his playing has breathed new life into LOUDNESS. His twin bass drums have such a destructive power. We are extremely lucky to have found him." | 0 | |

OPETH To Release 'Pale Communion' Album In June
 Swedish progressive metallers OPETH will release their eleventh studio album, "Pale Communion", on June 17 via Roadrunner Records.
"Pale Communion", which was produced by the band's very own Mikael Åkerfeldt and mixed by longtime collaborator and PORCUPINE TREE frontman/guitarist Steven Wilson, will be preceded by the lead single "Cusp of Eternity" and available for pre-order starting Tuesday, May 6. In a recent interview with Noisey, Åkerfeldt stated about "Pale Communion": "Normally when I start writing for a record, I'm a bit nervous. You don't know whether or not you're going to be able to come up with something that you like or come up with something at all, to be honest. I was inspired because pretty early on, I wrote a song on the new album — the last song on there, which I ended up being really happy with. So I had some type of guidelines which was more melody, I think."
He continued: "[2011's] 'Heritage' was somewhat deliberately fucked up all over the place because I love fucked-up-all-over-the-place-type music, but I wanted to do something more melodic with this album, so there's stronger vocal melodies and more melodies overall for this album. I was pretty consistent with that frame of mind throughout the writing process, so at least I had a plan with this album, and I normally don't, to be honest."
Mikael added in a separate interview with Metal Assault: "['Pale Communion' is] the next album, so I guess it's closer to ['Heritage'] than, say, the first album. But I'd like to think there's an upgraded sound, and by that I don't mean a modern sound. We were looking at some of the late '70s and early '80s production, and that's what we were going for sound-wise and it's one of the reasons why we ended up recording at Rockfield Studios in Wales, which is a legendary studio where many of our favorite bands recorded. So, musically, I guess you could say it's similar to 'Heritage', but I'd like to think it's more hard rock and metal sounding. We also have something new that we didn't have before in certain songs. I don't really know what it is, which I like. I like to either recognize our sound or to hear something completely new, and I think we have both on the new album."
Asked if he thinks if it would be fair to say that people who liked "Heritage" will like this new album as much as, or even more than, the last OPETH CD, Mikael said: "Yeah, I hope so. I hope everybody will like it, of course. I think it's probably a bit easier to get into because it's a bit more melodic. There's definitely more attention to melodies and I wouldn't say it's an easy-listening album at all, but there's more melody than ever before, not just 'Heritage'. I'm hoping that people who liked 'Heritage' will like this one too and also fans who liked the old shit will hopefully like this one as well, and may be some new fans. You never know."

GORGUTS Demos Anthology Vinyl Box Set Announced; Details Revealed
 War On Music Records will release a massive GORGUTS demo anthology on vinyl. After almost two years of planning, re-planning, adding and expanding, the Canadian based vinyl label is ready to unleash a colossal collection titled ...And Then Comes Lividity, named after the cult 1990 demo tape which first caught the attention of Roadrunner Records.
This massive demo anthology is spread out over three volumes, includes the legendary 1990 ...And Then Comes Lividity demo on a high fidelity 45rpm 12" LP; both the 1991 Considered Dead demo tapes and the 1992 Erosion Of Sanity demos in full; and the three rare Obscura demo tapes from '93, '94 and '95, containing early incarnations of the songs that would eventually comprise the groundbreaking 1998 masterpiece.
First time ever on vinyl, all tracks have been fully and carefully remastered by Gorguts bassist / engineer Colin Marston in the Thousand Caves Studios, capturing for display the raw and terrifying genius contained in these recordings.
The full anthology will be packaged separately over three volumes, each strictly limited to only 500 copies, as well as a complete box set featuring new original artwork from the one-and-only Dan Seagrave, also limited to only 500 copies worldwide.

SATAN: North American Shows To Be Recorded For Possible Live Album
 This Friday, April 11, New Wave Of British Heavy Metal legends SATAN will play their first-ever show in the USA. 34 years after the band's formation in Newcastle Upon Tyne, they will headline a three-band event in New York City to kick off the U.S East Coast leg of their "Live Sentence World Tour". All six North American shows — including those in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Baltimore, Maryland; Richmond, Virginia; Worcester, Massachusetts; and Montreal, Quebec, Canada — will be recorded for a possible live album release.
The SATAN members are still buzzing from recent dates in Europe and South America and have promised "life-changing" performances for those long-neglected North American fans.
Midwest and West Coast dates are currently being lined up for October.

SATAN's latest album, "Life Sentence", was released on April 29, 2013 in Europe and May 21, 2013 in the U.S. via Listenable Records. The cover artwork for the effort was drawn by Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT, HATEBREED, SODOM) and depicts a similar graphic concept as that of the band's debut album, "Court In The Act", originally issued 30 years ago.
"Life Sentence" was mixed by Dario Mollo, who is part of TONY MARTIN'S HEADLESS CROSS touring project and has worked with numerous artists as a producer and engineer, including SKYCLAD, ANATHEMA, CRADLE OF FILTH, LACUNA COIL, Tony Martin and Glenn Hughes. The CD was recorded September-November 2012 at First Avenue Studios in Newcastle, England and was mixed and mastered by Mollo at Damage Inc. Studio in Italy. The songs deal with the following topics: injustice, impending death, reincarnation, atonement, third-world politics, and biblical retribution.
"Life Sentence" is the culmination of a process that began when the original "Court In The Act" lineup got together for an exclusive "one-off" reunion show at Germany's Keep It True festival in 2011 in what marked their first performance together in 28 years. The band was somewhat overwhelmed with the response — 10 minutes into headliners CRIMSON GLORY's set, the crowd could still be heard chanting, "Satan! Satan!" The SATAN bandmembers immediately booked more shows in Germany, Holland, Belgium and London, and have since kept in close contact with each other, writing songs and making demos.

SATAN is one of the most important groups that emerged in the early NWOBHM era. Their unique mixture of heavy and power metal spirit with thrash riffage brought a handful of unforgettable tunes and revolutionized heavy music as we know it.
"Court in the Act" was SATAN's debut release and was considered a true milestone at the time of its release (1983). The songs were melodic, but at the same time very aggressive. The band's two guitarists, Russ Tippins and Steve Ramsey, delivered a truly amazing performance; although their styles were completely different, they managed to perfectly complement each other's playing and introduced a handful of timeless riffs and solos.
A digipack reissue of "Court In The Act" was made available in November 2008 featuring three bonus tracks.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY To Release 'IX' Album In June
 Candlelight Records has set a June 24 North American release date for "IX", the new album from CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. Produced by the band and longtime comrade John Custer, the album and lead single "On Your Way" will be available for preorders via iTunes, Amazon and other popular outlets beginning May 13. Video footage filmed at the recording studio, including vocalist Mike Dean and drummer Reed Mullin laying down vocal tracks, plus guitarist Woodroe Weatherman tracking some of the albums killer riffs, has been seen by fans around the globe.
"The making of 'IX' was drawn out because of us having to step away to do other projects," comments Dean. "I think being forced to step away kept us hungry and then being back on the case with deadlines casting a shadow gave us a 'failure is no option' vibe and that really helped the final product." "This album is another step forward for us," adds Weatherman. "It seems like we keep heading more and more toward our rawer live sound with the studio recordings." Having recently returned from a successful European tour, the band is gearing up for the album's release and a year full of nonstop touring.
"CORROSION OF CONFORMITY are very much firing on all cylinders," noted Terrorizer magazine preceding the trio of English dates that were part of the larger Euro tour that had the band visiting ten countries for the first time in more than a year.
"We had some good shows," shares Dean. "To go back to Paris for the first time in years, without a new album, and have the type of response we had just shows me that there is new interest in the more creative heavier rock. And that this younger group of people is actually checking us out is huge to me." The band surprised European audiences with some new material from "IX". "We had 'On Your Way' in the set and people were jamming along," notes Dean. "It's uptempo but syncopated. I thought it fit right in even though technically we were still working it out."
"We did sneak in some new material on the European tour," asserts Weatherman. "It's great to see folks digging on stuff they have never heard before."
