HOLY MOSES Introduce New Live Guitarist

German thrashers HOLY MOSES have added a new live guitarist to their roster; Simone Wenzel from REVOLUTION EVE. The new line-up will make their debut on April 5th in the Palzer Hell Festival.
Holy Moses recently announced details for their new album, Redefined Mayhem. “Holy Moses have never released standard thrash songs, and we never will,” Sabina Classen explains with some pride. “We write songs which we like ourselves and don’t compromise in terms of trends and concessions to wrong expectations. We don’t have to please everybody, we’re our own brand, we have our own sound, which includes the occasional odd beat, technically demanding passages and unusual chord structures as well as interesting lyrics which deal with the dark side of people and their minds.”

That Holy Moses mark 2014 don’t show any symptoms of fatigue is mainly due to their perfect balance consisting of founder members and musicians who have played in other groups: vocalist Sabina Classen has been the voice and face of Holy Moses since 1981, bassist Thomas Neitsch has been in the band for six years, drummer Gerd Lücking joined the fold three years ago, and guitarist Peter Geltat was enlisted in 2012, supporting his colleagues immediately in a number of successful shows such as the Barge To Hell Cruise 2012. The current line-up is ready to face new challenges in a permanently evolving metal genre. “This is Holy Moses mark 2014, and Redefined Mayhem defines a new chapter of our band history,” explains Sabina Classen, adding: “We had to redefine ourselves as a band and gel as a team. There were people who voiced their doubts that it would work. But the new songs prove beyond all doubt that Holy Moses continue to be a force to be reckoned with.”

There can be no doubt: Redefined Mayhem sees Holy Moses 2014 reach a new pinnacle of their creative work. Their fans can look forward to a contemporary thrash metal oeuvre which reflects the band members’ influence while skilfully forging an arch to the group’s successful past with classics such as Finished With The Dogs (1987) and The New Machine Of Liechtenstein (1989). Classen: “It’s still first-rate thrash metal, fast-paced and powerful, chaotic at times but with a modern touch and amazingly multi-faceted guitars and drums.”

Redefined Mayhem will be released in Scandinavia on April 23rd, in Germany on April 25th, in Europe on April 28th and in the USA on April 29th through SPV/Steamhammer as CD, double gatefold LP with coloured vinyl plus onus track and the CD in a cardboard sleeve and as download. Former UFO Bassist PETE WAY Halfway Through Radiotherapy Treatment For Prostate Cancer

Former UFO bassist Pete Way says that he is halfway through his radiotherapy treatment for the prostate cancer with which he was diagnosed last year. "[I] feel so low and tired," he writes on his Facebook page.

Way's treatment reportedly involves undergoing radiotherapy sessions every day for a month to shrink the tumor, in conjunction with hormone therapy.

As a result of his cancer diagnosis, Way's new album, "Walking On The Edge", will not be released until later in the year. The CD is being mixed by producer/engineer Mike Clink, who has previously worked with GUNS N' ROSES and METALLICA.

The news of Way's cancer battle was broken in November by Classic Rock magazine. Way told the publication that he diagnosed last summer during a routine check on his liver, which has been damaged over the years through hepatitis. The abdominal scan picked up the tumor on his prostate.

"I was lucky," Way said. "They were checking my liver, not my prostate. They found it by accident. I didn't think I had any symptoms, but when I spoke to the doctors, and they were asking me all those questions, I did have the symptoms. I just didn't know what they were."

Speaking to Classic Rock, Way said: "This is prostate cancer. It's not lung cancer. It's not pancreatic cancer. If you're going to get cancer, this is the best one you can have — and they caught it early."

Learn To Play PANTERA's Most Popular Songs From Bassist REX BROWN

Former PANTERA/DOWN and current KILL DEVIL HILL bassist Rex Brown is one of a number of musicians featured on the online guitar lesson learning program JamPlay.

Learn the most popular PANTERA songs as well as new material from KILL DEVIL HILL at JamPlay. Learn from the man himself, Rex Brown!

Rex discusses each song and shares stories about the songwriting and recording process. He also describes what they are like to ROCK live!

Check out these songs, as well as Rex Brown's full Artist series where Rex goes over his much-sought-after tone and picking style.

Asked to describe how his playing has changed over the years, Brown told Music Radar: "Whether you're playing with three or four different cats, you have to adapt to each situation. DOWN didn't sound like PANTERA, and KILL DEVIL HILL certainly doesn't sound like either of those bands. You have to size up everybody's strengths and weakness. Sometimes that calls for you to do a lot or a little, but whatever you do, you serve the song and try to keep it interesting."

Reflecting on how he fashioned his basslines in and around the massive guitar riffs of late PANTERA axeman "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, Brown told Music Radar: "Dime's sound was so big, I had to look for ways to fit something inside that wall. I had to have a real mid-punch and compose parts that could stand out. I'd play the riffs and then figure out where to take it from there, listening for little pockets of space when I need to add a nuance or a walking line. The main thing was to anchor the song, and when the music needed a little more juice from the bass, I'd go for it."

METALLICA: Official Footage Of Buenos Aires Concert

METALLICA's official YouTube channel MetallicaTV has uploaded "fly-on-the-wall" footage shot by the MetOnTour reporter on March 29 at Estadio Ciudad de La Plata in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The clip, which can be seen below, includes the band warming up in the tuning room as well as "The Unforgiven" and "...And Justice For All" from the show.

As promised, the band played a nearly all-request set in Santiago, with 17 songs chosen online by fans prior to the gig and the last slot filled by the new track "Lords Of Summer".

The band's setlist was as follows:

01. Battery02. Master Of Puppets03. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)04. Ride The Lightning05. The Unforgiven06. Lords Of Summer07. Fuel08. Sad But True09. Fade To Black10. ...And Justice For All11. One12. For Whom The Bell Tolls13. Creeping Death14. Nothing Else Matters15. Enter Sandman

Encore:

16. Whiskey In The Jar17. Orion18. Seek & Destroy

Drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone that "Lords Of Summer" "is fairly representative of where our creative headspace is at right now. It's one of those things that's like, 'Here, we're writing and we're creating.'"

Guitarist Kirk Hammett told The Pulse Of Radio that coming up with music is not a problem for the band. "We're a band that never has a shortage of ideas," he said. "You know, you hear about these bands that are like, oh, they're sitting in the studio and they don't have any songs, what are they gonna do? That's not METALLICA. METALLICA's problem is the total opposite: we have too many ideas, which ones are we gonna use. And so that's pretty much how it stands with us."

Ulrich cautioned, however, that "Lords Of Summer" may not even end up on METALLICA's next album at all, or at least not in its current form. He explained, "We did the same thing when we went out and played a bunch of dates in 2006. We were writing and played two different new songs over the course of that summer, and none of them made the record (2008's 'Death Magnetic')."

The Metallica By Request tour will hit Europe this summer, with a single North American date confirmed in Montreal, as the band continues working on its 10th studio album.

JAMES KOTTAK Sits Out SCORPIONS Show In Bahrain; Ex-HELLOWEEN Drummer MARK CROSS Fills In

German hard rock veterans SCORPIONS performed last night (Saturday, April 5) at the 2014 Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. The concert was one of several events which are highlighting the spectacular off-track celebrations that mark Bahrain International Circuit's (BIC) 10th anniversary.

Longtime SCORPIONS drummer James Kottak did not perform with his bandmates at Saturday night's concert and was replaced at the gig by Mark Cross (TAINTED NATION, FIREWIND, OUTLOUD, HELLOWEEN, METALLIUM).

It is not clear why Kottak missed the Bahrain show, seeing as he played with the rest of the SCORPIONS during their recent Russian tour, which he called a "huge success". He also tweeted on April 3: "Off to Bahrain for a show and Formula 1 race!"

Fan-filmed video footage of the Bahrain concert can be seen below.

Kottak is also sitting out the current Russian tour by PROJECT ROCK (formerly ROCKSTAR), the new band featuring Tim "Ripper" Owens (JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, DIO DISCIPLES) on vocals, Keri Kelli (SLASH'S SNAKEPIT, ALICE COOPER, RATT) on guitar, Rudy Sarzo (OZZY OSBOURNE, QUIET RIOT, WHITESNAKE, DIO) on bass and Teddy "Zig Zag" Andreadis (GUNS N' ROSES) on keyboards. He is being replaced on the PROJECT ROCK trek — which kicked off on April 5 — by Simon Wright, who has previously played with DIO, AC/DC, UFO, DIO DISCIPLES and Geoff Tate's QUEENSRŸCHE.

In a 2005 interview, Kottak, who has been in the SCORPIONS since 1996, stated about his audition for the band: "I was always a SCORPIONS fan for the songs on the radio because in America they played them non-stop. I was never the guy that went out and bought their records but I was always like their songwriting and the songs and the whole vibe. Then I was in a band called KINGDOM COME in 1987-1990 and we opened for the SCORPIONS and I saw them and they were so professional on the Monsters Of Rock tour, I was totally blown away. But I never went out and bought their albums, I never went out and bought any other albums either. I was a fan of all music — good or bad. It was on the radio so much, I didn't need to buy it. I spent all my money buying drums, drumsticks and cymbals. In the audition, I knew most of the SCORPIONS music from playing in cover bands. I'm from Louisville, Kentucky. That's how I earned my money in the early '80s — we played 'Still Loving You', 'Rock You Like a Hurricane', 'Big City Nights'. The flattering point with the SCORPIONS [was] when I did fly to Germany for the 'audition,' it wasn't so much an audition, more like, 'Let's get together and see how it feels.' So, I was very flattered about that because they did audition like another 25 drummers. I was very flattered to be picked."

Off to Bahrain for a show & Formula 1 race!

NECRODEATH: Trailer For 'The 7 Deadly Sins' Album Featuring Italian Porn Star MILA RAMOS

Legendary Italian black thrashers NECRODEATH have released a video trailer for their much-anticipated new album, "The 7 Deadly Sins", due out on May 13 via Scarlet Records. "The 7 Deadly Sins" follows the critically acclaimed, single-track album "Idiosyncrasy", delivering seven fast and brutal songs centering around the seven sins. For the first time ever, NECRODEATH used its Italian mother tongue to write most of the lyrics, as well as English and Latin, giving a different edge to the music itself. Also, two classic songs from the band's catalogue have been re-recorded by the group's new lineup and included in the track listing, "Thanatoid" from "Fragments Of Insanity" (1989) and "Graveyard Of The Innocents" from "Into The Macabre" (1987). The artwork features a provocative shot of renowned porn star Mila Ramos.

"The 7 Deadly Sins" will be preceded by a seven-inch vinyl single release of the song "Wrath". Watch here the video for "Wrath" below. "The 7 Deadly Sins" track listing: 01. Sloth02. Lust03. Envy04. Pride05. Wrath06. Gluttony07. Greed08. Thanatoid (bonus track)09. Graveyard Of The Innocents (bonus track) Commented NECRODEATH frontman Flegias: "With this new album, we have definetely reached a new level of ferocity. You can see it as a tribute to those fans who have been following us since the beginning and a painful kick in the balls to all those others who might have thought we have softened our sound! And to emphasize the morbidity of this record, we have invited renowned Italian porn star, friend and longtime NECRODEATH fan Mila Ramos to star on the album cover and in the promotional trailer."

SLASH And MYLES KENNEDY AND THE CONSPIRATORS Complete Recording New Album

Slash and his solo band, MYLES KENNEDY AND THE CONSPIRATORS, have finished recording the third album under the solo Slash banner. A total of 17 songs — including one instrumental — were laid down for the follow-up to 2012's "Apocalyptic Love", which is being helmed by producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette, known for his work with Kennedy's other band, ALTER BRIDGE, as well as FALLING IN REVERSE, STORY OF THE YEAR and INCUBUS, to name a few.

Asked how the new Slash material is sounding, Kennedy told VH1 Radio Network's Dave Basner: "It's good! It's very rock. It's very rocking. I think it's more up-tempo than the last record was, and [Slash has] got some really great riffs on this record. Killer stuff." Slash bassist Todd Kerns said about the album at his blog, "I have to admit that, conceptually, I felt that 'Apocalyptic Love' would be a tough act to follow, but I can say with all the confidence in the world that we are more than armed and ready."

Kerns added, "The material on this album is more serious and more fun at the same time, which is a tough balance indeed. The songs are sleazier, tougher and more dangerous . . . We are all very excited to unleash the monster upon you as soon as we can."

Slash officially began recording as a solo artist with his self-titled 2010 debut album.

The former GUNS N' ROSES and VELVET REVOLVER guitarist employed a different vocalist on each track of his first album, before settling on ALTER BRIDGE's Myles Kennedy for both touring and eventually recording.

"Apocalyptic Love" earned Slash his two first-ever No. 1 U.S. rock radio hits with "You're A Lie" and "Standing In The Sun". The record's third single, "Anastasia", cracked the Top 10 at Modern and Active Rock and Top Five at Mainstream Rock.

Slash told The Pulse Of Radio that the partnership with Kennedy seemed natural from the start. "We work really well together," he said. "I never really thought about how that's progressing. It's real natural. So it's like any kind of sort of close relationship, where I think we established it really, really early on and now we're just sort of doing our thing, you know. Yeah, I don't know what else to say — it's just a really cool kind of synergy that we've got."

Slash and AEROSMITH last month announced that they will team up for a 2014 U.S. tour this summer. The two acts revealed the joint road trip, dubbed "Let Rock Rule", via a series of tweets on March 21 from Slash and members of AEROSMITH, with exact dates and venues due to be revealed on Tuesday, April 8.

Former THE GATES OF SLUMBER Bassist JASON MCCASH Dies

Jason McCash, former bassist, co-songwriter and co-lyricist for Indianapolis doomsters THE GATES OF SLUMBER, has reportedly passed away. He was 37 years old.

In a posting on Facebook, THE GATES OF SLUMBER vocalist/guitarist Karl Simon wrote: "My best friend died last night.

"There will be no reunion — no more of THE GATES OF SLUMBER. It's dead beyond dead, and I've lost a brother.

"Please be respectful or silent. It's a small world and I'm still alive. Remember that shit."

McCash announced his departure from THE GATES OF SLUMBER last September, explaining that it was "just time for me to leave."

THE GATES OF SLUMBER's "Death March" video can be seen below. The song comes off the band's "Stormcrow" EP, which was released on January 29, 2013 via Scion Audio/Visual, (a.k.a. Scion A/V), the in-house record label and lifestyle marketing division of the Scion marque produced by Toyota Motor Corporation for the North American market. The CD was recorded by Sanford Parker and it features cover artwork by Dave Quiggle.

THE GATES OF SLUMBER in 2012 parted amicably with drummer J. Clyde Paradis, who recorded and toured behind the 2011 album "The Wretch" (Rise Above Records).

THE GATES OF SLUMBER started in 1998 as a backlash against the stoner rock trend prevalent at the time and with their mixture of BLACK SABBATH, SAINT VITUS, PENTAGRAM, and prime-era CELTIC FROST, the band has crushed or converted unbelievers ever since.

"The Wretch" was released in May 2011 via Rise Above/Metal Blade. The CD was recorded at England's Orgone Studios with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano (GHOST, ANGEL WITCH).

NOCICEPTOR Signs With ROGUE RECORDS AMERICA

Texas groove metal band NOCICEPTOR has signed a two-album publishing and distribution deal with Rogue Records America. The label will reissue the group's third full-length effort, "Among Insects", in a digipak CD while the band works on its fourth album. A new lyric video will also be released for the song "The Fell", but in the meantime, you can check out the lyric video for the band's recent single, "Pornoholocaust", below. "I fucking love NOCICEPTOR," says Rogue Records America owner Dean Martinetti. "I am a fan and have been since the first time I heard 'Pornoholocaust' off 'Among Insects'.

"It's a rare thing for me to just gravitate to an artist off of one song, but the band has a style and hooks all their own and that makes them super unique.

"I had to see if we could work together because I have a lot of ideas I wanted to throw at them and was dying to hear what they were up to."

In 2013, JD Schmidt, the singer of NOCICEPTOR, started talking to Dean via Facebook about working together. The two had similar thoughts about the band, its direction and its future, making the idea of working together a no-brainer.

Comments NOCICEPTOR: "Everyone over at Rogue Records has been really supportive ever since 'Among Insects' was released, and we are ecstatic to finally be in a mutually beneficial partnership with them.

"Our upcoming (and as-yet-unnamed) album will be the first of hopefully numerous releases under Rogue's mentorship, and the future looks brighter than ever.

"Rogue Records is the kind of label that can see that the industry is in flux and knows how to be strategically flexible to ensure that their bands get the opportunities they deserve. This is exactly the kind of situation we have been looking for, and we could not be more excited!"

NECROPHOBIC Rejoined By Singer ANDERS STROKIRK

Cult Swedish black/death metal act NECROPHOBIC has been rejoined by vocalist Anders Strokirk.

Anders was in NECROPHOBIC during the years 1992-1994 and sang on the band's legendary debut album "The Nocturnal Silence" (1993).

Says NECROPHOBIC in a statement: "Anders' voice is both strong and characteristic.

"We are now ready to play live again and support last autumn's album release, 'Womb Of Lilithu'."

NECROPHOBIC in October 2013 officially parted ways with vocalist Tobias Sidegård.

A Swedish appeals court in September reduced the prison sentence for Sidegård, who was accused of beating his wife multiple times between September 2011 and April 2013.

Sidegård was originally sentenced to 18 months in prison for "gross violation of a woman's integrity," and offense that was first introduced into the Penal Code in 1998 dealing with repeated punishable acts directed by men against women who have or have had a close relationship with the perpetrator.

On September 20, 2013, the Svea appeals court found Sidegård guilty of simple assault — a less serious offense than "gross violation of a woman's integrity" — and reduced his prison sentence to six months. The musician was also ordered to pay his wife 16,000 Swedish kronor (approximately $2,500) in damages plus interest.

Sidegård previously denied all charges through his attorney, claiming that the injuries suffered by Tobias' wife that were described in the indictment occurred in "other ways" than through physical abuse perpetrated by the musician.

Tobias sent an e-mail to the Metal Insider and MetalSucks web sites insisting that he was "set free after second appeal in higher court." "I've been fucking innocently accused and never hit a woman in my life," he wrote.

NECROPHOBIC's seventh full-length album, "Womb Of Lilithu", came out on October 29, 2013 (four days earlier in Europe) via Season Of Mist. A digital single featuring the new song "Splendour Nigri Solis", taken from the CD, was released exclusively through Spotify on August 19, 2013 (September 3 in North America).

EXCITER Parts Ways With Bassist ROB 'CLAMMY' COHEN, Vows To Continue With New Members

Pioneering Canadian thrashers EXCITER have parted ways with bassist Rob "Clammy" Cohen "due to differences (both personal and business) regarding the future of the band." The remaining members of EXCITER — Rik Charron (drums) and Kenny Winter (vocals) — say in a statement: "We ARE NOT disbanding but we will be taking some time to regroup.

"We apologize to all of our fans for the confusion during this recent turmoil. Rest assured that EXCITER will return to smash and thrash for all you heavy metal maniacs worldwide.

"We'll see you on the road."

Guitarist John Ricci in February announced his departure from EXCITER an decision to retire from the music business. As one of the founding members of the band, John was a driving force behind EXCITER's genre-defining albums including the groundbreaking "Heavy Metal Maniac" (1983), "Violence And Force" (1984), and "Long Live the Loud" (1985). As part of the modern era of EXCITER, his unique, manic, style propelled EXCITER's comeback album "The Dark Command" (1996) along with "Blood Of Tyrants" (2000), "Thrash Speed Burn" (2008) and "Death Machine" (2010).

EXCITER's latest album, "Death Machine", was released on October 29, 2010 via Massacre Records. The effort was made available as a standard CD, a digipak and a limited-edition (500 copies) gatefold LP.

In an interview with Music Legends, Ricci stated about the making of the "Death Machine" CD: "The recording sessions for "Death Machine" were a little disjointed. We recorded all the instruments at different times because of scheduling conflicts and also the fact our singer, Kenny, lives in New York City, therefore it wasn't one smooth recording session. Kenny arrived to record vocals after all the music was done and he sang the songs for the very first time without really hearing the songs previously. Nevertheless, the album turned out good. Because we were trying to meet the deadline to complete the record, I think we rushed the mixing process as well. All in all, no matter what we do or what gear we use, we always get this raw garage or 'very analog' sound."

When asked where he finds the inspiration to write music, John replied, "EXCITER's inspirations to write music comes from everyday news events, mostly of violent topics. Killings, murders, etc. We live in such a sick world, with senseless killings and unprovoked violence. The lyrics I write do not glamorize violence but condone it. Of course, some song topics include witches and Satan, but these topics are strictly fantasy. For example, if you watch a horror movie, it's not for real only make-believe. The instrumental part of EXCITER's music is always from an angry point of view. As far as I'm concerned, metal has to be played with aggression and simple power chords to get the message across to the listener. This has been the EXCITER formula for over 30 years."

LEIF EDLING To Sit Out AVATARIUM's Performance At ROADBURN; TIAMAT's ANDERS IWERS To Fill In

Due to his health condition, bassist Leif Edling (CANDLEMASS, AVATARIUM) has not been able to participate in the rehearsals for AVATARIUM's upcoming appearance at the Roadburn festival. Therefore the band will once again play with Anders Iwers from TIAMAT filling in for Leif.

Says AVATARIUM: "Good news is that Leif is slowly getting better!"

AVATARIUM previously performed without Edling at the House Of Metal festival on March 1 in Umeå, Sweden.

AVATARIUM's self-titled debut album was released in Europe on November 1, 2013 via Nuclear Blast.

In addition to Edling, AVATARIUM features Marcus Jidell (ROYAL HUNT, EVERGREY) on guitar, Lars Sköld (TIAMAT) on drums, Carl Westholm on keyboards and Jennie-Ann Smith on vocals.

AVATARIUM's first release was a 12-inch mini-LP, "Moonhorse", featuring the title track, the B-side "Boneflower" as well as an acoustic cover version of BLACK SABBATH's "War Pigs". It arrived on September 20, 2013.

The cover artwork for "Avatarium" was created by Swedish artist Erik Rovamperä, who has previously worked with CANDLEMASS.

Jidell had the following to say about the birth of "Avatarium": "We are very proud to present the first, but not the last, AVATARIUM album to you.

"When we started to demo the songs on this album, we had one thing that we thought was extremely important: we wanted to make music that was heavy, dark and poetic. Also, we had an urge to make an album with a very organic sound and no fixing and trixing in computers but just try to make great emotional music.

"During the whole process, we have been looking for feeling rather than trying to make everything technically perfect. "I think that everything really came together the first day Jennie-Ann came in the studio and sung 'Moonhorse'. She had everything we looked for in a singer: rock 'n' roll attitude, jazz and blues feel, a big and powerful voice and yet so able to be fragile and extremely tender in her interpretation of the songs.

"If you like heavy, dark riffs and big guitars, emotional, raw and bluesy vocals, thunderous and groovy drums, I am quite sure that you'll like AVATARIUM." AVATARIUM made its live debut on November 9, 2013 in Stockholm. The band played two songs at the private 40th birthday party for AVATARIUM and TIAMAT drummer Lars Sköld at Blå Cupolen.

AVATARIUM is:

01. Lust And Lies02. Close To You03. Good Thing04. Breathing05. Steal Away06. Line Of Fire07. Out Of Reach08. Feel It09. Leave This Town10. One Step Behind11. Leeches12. Nothing Touches13. Sailing Ships

"Vandenberg's Moonkings" is a sensational mix of blistering rock songs and powerful ballads from the Dutch guitar hero Adrian Vandenberg, and includes a newly recorded version of Vandenberg's ex-band WHITESNAKE's classic "Sailing Ships". Special guest David Coverdale adds his unique vocals to the equation, to complement Vandenberg's powerful riffs for a welcome moment of nostalgia.

Asked how Coverdale's guest appearance on "Vandenberg's Moonkings" came about, Adrian told Myglobalmind: "Well, David has been pushing me a lot over the last ten years to record a record. Finally, when I told him that I was working on one, David said that 'it would be an honor for me if I could sing a song on your album.' I replied that the honor would be completely mutual. David was then on the road for the whole year, so we didn't have the time to write a new song.

"I always wanted to do another version of [WHITESNAKE's] 'Sailing Ships', because I wrote the song and the music for it actually for my mom. She was always saying for me to write another acoustic song for the album. I originally intended it to be a little more understated than it ended up on the 'Slip Of The Tongue' album. I really thought that I could add something to it by making it a little bit more melancholic and more reflective. Bringing in real violins, which I had always pictured with it, so I made it a little slower. I thought it would be great to do a different version and also what I like about how it ends up on the album is that it is like a symbolic nod to my years with WHITESNAKE. I thought that it worked great, because if I had put like a new track somewhere in the middle of the album it would have been strange. David in the middle with a similar song." Multi-talented Adrian Vandenberg — who has designed all of his album sleeves since his very first record with TEASER at the age of 22 — took care of the artwork for this record. VANDENBERG'S MOONKINGS is:

Video: VIXEN Performs Acoustic Version Of 'Cryin'' On MONSTERS OF ROCK Cruise

Video footage of VIXEN performing the song "Cryin'" on the Monsters Of Rock cruise, which departed from Miami, Florida on March 29, can be seen below.

Bassist Share Ross, singer Janet Gardner and drummer Roxy Petrucci are honoring their friend and bandmate, guitarist and founder of VIXEN, Jan Kuehnemund, by performing as VIXEN.

The band was committed to reunite in 2012 but Kuehnemund's cancer diagnosis caused what was thought of at the time as a delay. Sadly, however, after a fierce battle, Kuehnemund succumbed to her illness in October 2013, thus the reunion was not meant to be.

After discussing the idea with friends and family as well as lead vocalist from the most recent lineup, Jenna Sanz-Agero, it was agreed that it was the right decision for the three surviving definitive members to carry on as VIXEN.

Gardner commented: "We've been hearing the fans ask for this and while it will never be the same without Jan, we believe in our hearts it's what she would have wanted."

Joining forces with their JSRG bandmate, guitarist Gina Stile, VIXEN will perform at select festivals and showcase dates in 2014.

Kuehnemund was only 51 years old at the time of her death.

In 1987, "Edge Of A Broken Heart" climbed the Billboard chart to the Top Ten and VIXEN had hit after hit. EMI suddenly had the only platinum-selling all-female rock band of its time on their roster. Dubbed "MTV Darlings", the hits kept coming with "Cryin'", "How Much Love", "Love Is A Killer" and "Not a Minute Too Soon". The band earned credibility as they opened up for superstars, including OZZY OSBOURNE, DEEP PURPLE, SCORPIONS and BON JOVI, to name a few. A live performance on the "Arsenio Hall" television show sealed their credibility with the fact that these girls could play.

VIXEN's original members Gardner, Kuehnemund, Ross and Petrucci appeared together on VH1's "Bands Reunited" in October 2004 to reminisce about their start on L.A.'s Sunset Strip and their rise to fame in the late 1980s, before the onset of grunge in the early 1990s displaced metal at the top of the charts. They also took part in a short performance for the program.

METALLICA: Official Footage Of Santiago Concert

METALLICA's official YouTube channel MetallicaTV has uploaded "fly-on-the-wall" footage shot by the MetOnTour reporter on March 27 at Estadio Monumental in Santiago, Chile. The clip, which can be seen below, includes the band warming up in the "tuning truck" as well as "Master Of Puppets" and "Fade To Black" from the show.

As promised, the band played a nearly all-request set in Santiago, with 17 songs chosen online by fans prior to the gig and the last slot filled by the new track "Lords Of Summer".

The band's setlist was as follows:

01. Battery02. Master Of Puppets03. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)04. Ride The Lightning05. The Unforgiven06. Lords Of Summer07. ...And Justice For All08. Sad But True09. Fade To Black10. Orion11. One12. For Whom The Bell Tolls13. Blackened14. Nothing Else Matters15. Enter Sandman

Encore:

16. Creeping Death17. Whiplash18.

EVENOIRE: Teaser For 'Herons' Album

A teaser for "Herons", the new album from Italian female-fronted symphonic metallers EVENOIRE, can be seen below. The CD will be released on April 15 via Scarlet Records.

"Herons" was recorded at Dreamsound Studios in Munich, Germany, with Mario Lochert, Dejan Djukovic and Daniel Rehbein (EMERGENCY GATE, GRAVEWORM, VISIONS OF ATLANTIS) behind the console. Mastering and mixing duties were handled by Jan Vacik (DREAMSCAPE). The band has also announced a collaboration with keyboardist/producer Riccardo Studer (STORMLORD, HOUR OF PENANCE) and keyboardist Filippo Sasha Martignano (ECHOTIME). A very special guest appearance by singer Linnéa Vikström (THERION) on the song "Tears Of Medusa" is also confirmed. According to a press release, EVENOIRE "combine gothic and symphonic metal with a very distinctive medieval/folk approach, with a special mention to extraordinary lead vocalist Lisy Stefanoni, whose ethereal and powerful voice and evocative flute add an extra dimension to the melodies and make her one of the most promising female singers around. And if 'Vitriol' was centered on 'water' themes, this new album focuses on 'fire' and all those mythological creatures that represent it. The music is heavier than ever before although the lyrical side of the band is still prominent."

"Herons" track listing:

01. Herons02. Drops Of Amber03. Seasons Of Decay04. Love Enslaves05. The Newborn Spring06. When The Sun Sets07. Tears Of Medusa (feat. Linnéa Vikström)08. Devil's Signs09. The Lady Of The Game10. Wild Females11. Aries (bonus track)

SUICIDE SILENCE In Beijing: Pre-Show, Performance Footage

California deathcore masters SUICIDE SILENCE have posted pre-show and performance footage from their March 11 concert in Beijing, China. Check out the three-minute clip below.

SUICIDE SILENCE recently entered the studio to begin recording its new album with producer Steve Evetts (SEPULTURA, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, WARBRINGER). The group's first CD with new vocalist Hernan "Eddie" Hermida (ex-ALL SHALL PERISH) will be released this summer via Nuclear Blast Entertainment, a division of Nuclear Blast Records formed by Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger and former Roadrunner A&R chief Monte Conner.

SUICIDE SILENCE singer Mitch Lucker died November 1, 2012 after sustaining injuries in a motorcycle crash in Huntington Beach on Halloween night.

"We never talked about continuing and we never talked about quitting, so it was like an unspoken thing, 'cause with some people, a tragic happening, the last thing you want to do is talk about it," SUICIDE SILENCE guitarist Chris Garza told Music Feeds.

Ultimately, Garza explained, carrying on as SUICIDE SILENCE felt like the right thing to do. "I think keeping the SUICIDE SILENCE brand going and the name going keeps Mitch alive and I think it would be completely disrespectful to Mitch and everything that he worked for if we stopped going or changed the name," he added.

"This record will be the grittiest, most meaningful piece of work we've ever stood behind,” commented guitarist Mark Heylmun. "We cannot wait for everyone to hear it.

"Steve Evetts is someone we've worked closely with for a long while, not only on 'The Black Crown', but also on some instrumental demos just prior to the tragedy last fall. Here we are a year later prepping to record the nastiest, heaviest, most disgusting work we've ever done. Expect the unexpected."

Regarding the direction of the new material, Heylmun told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine: "Eddie is quite a versatile vocalist and he's willing to experiment, so we're definitely exploring the horizons, but don't expect anything less than pure brutality throughout."

Randy Blythe (LAMB OF GOD), Robb Flynn (MACHINE HEAD) and Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, SEPULTURA) were among the "surprise" guests who performed with with the surviving members of SUICIDE SILENCE at a special show on December 21, 2012 at the Fox theater in Pomona, California as a tribute Mitch Lucker. All proceeds from the event went towards the education of Mitch's six-year-old daughter, Kenadee Lucker.

The Pomona concert was professionally filmed for a DVD, "Suicide Silence - Ending Is The Beginning: The Mitch Lucker Memorial Show", that was released on February 18 in North America and was made available March 17 in Europe as a CD/DVD digipack and CD/Blu-ray combo pack.

Video: HALESTORM Performs New Song 'Mayhem' In Manchester

Fan-filmed video footage of HALESTORM performing a brand new song, tentatively titled "Mayhem", last night (Friday, April 4) at Manchester Academy in Manchester, England can be seen below.

After 20 months of touring behind 2012's "The Strange Case Of…", HALESTORM has commenced work on record number three. The quartet headed into the studio in January following a short holiday break. Singer Lzzy Hale told Loudwire: "It's the beginning stages and we just started writing for the next record.

"It's our third record and what a cool thing it is to make it to that point in your career.

"We're chasing the song dragon and we're chasing after whatever gets us excited at this point.

"I think we're starting to crack the code of what we have to do on this record."

She added: "We've been looking back at some of the classic third records, and oh my god, there's a little bit of pressure there. But as long as we keep focused on what we have to do, I think it'll be okay."

Lzzy told The Pulse Of Radio that while she enjoys writing songs on tour, they're often different from what the band does when it gets in the studio. "Definitely," she said. "When everything is kind of more consistently tour-focused and not, you know, writing-focused, I definitely write differently. I explore different subjects without being picky about anything. So as things develop in my life, in either my personal life or professional, it's nice to explore all those different subjects, you know, without the pressure of being in the studio."

"The Strange Case Of…" came out in April 2012 and spawned three hit singles, including the chart-topping "Love Bites (So Do I)" and "Here's To Us".

"Love Bites" also won the Grammy last year for "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance."

HALESTORM recently issued its second covers EP, "ReAniMate 2.0", which featured renditions of songs from JUDAS PRIEST, AC/DC, PAT BENATAR, MARILYN MANSON, DAFT PUNK and FLEETWOOD MAC.

PRONG: Audio Samples Of Entire 'Ruining Lives' Album

PRONG's new album, "Ruining Lives", will be released through Steamhammer/SPV in Scandinavia on April 23, in Germany on April 25, in the rest of Europe on April 28 and in the U.S./Canada on May 13. It will be made available as a limited digipak version including one bonus track and poster, as a double gatefold colored vinyl version including one bonus track and the CD in cardboard sleeve, as a standard version and download.

Audio samples of all the tracks that are set to appear on "Ruining Lives" can be found at Amazon.de.

"Ruining Lives" is the follow-up to the acclaimed 2012 release "Carved Into Stone" and continues to show the band on an upward trajectory, proving that despite having a long, illustrious career PRONG can still make records that matter and re-invent themselves without negating their roots.

With Tommy Victor in the producer's chair and Steve Evetts (HATEBREED, SICK OF IT ALL, SEPULTURA) once again coming in to put his trademark shine on the record, "Ruining Lives" has turned out to be a monster of an album. From the first riff assault of the opener "Turnover", the album takes you on an angst-filled roller coaster ride that marries some very old-school "Beg To Differ" elements with post-punk, industrial metal, hardcore thrash, all the while retaining a modern and current feel. Fans of the bands legendary, genre-defining "Cleansing" era and new fans alike will be thrilled.

Says Tommy Victor: "This is the fastest written and recorded PRONG album ever and it has more great songs than any previous PRONG record. I am particularly proud of the vocal performance and I think we captured some outstanding sounds on this album.

"There's a little bit of a throwback element here.

"'Ruining Lives' is almost a 'Force Fed' type of song.

"The album is a hybrid between New York hardcore and some very modern, song-oriented work.

"You will find some 'Rude Awakening' but also some solid, crushing riffs.

"I feel we have captured the best elements of PRONG on this album.

"'Come To Realize' is something new — we have never approached this kind of time signature. It really is math metal meets pure hardcore with a crazy-ass riff.

"What's exciting about the whole album is you have your hooks, your riffs and something innovative that makes the album very current.

"This qualifies as the hybrid nature of PRONG: marrying post-punk, industrial metal, hardcore thrash and modern elements — all of that with hooks and not just a bunch of screaming."

DEVIL YOU KNOW: 'A New Beginning' Song Available For Streaming

"A New Beginning", a brand new song from DEVIL YOU KNOW, the creative union of Howard Jones (ex-KILLSWITCH ENGAGE), Francesco Artusato (ALL SHALL PERISH) and John Sankey (DEVOLVED), can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below.

DEVIL YOU KNOW will release its inaugural effort, "The Beauty of Destruction", on both physical and digital formats on April 25 in Europe and April 29 in North America via Nuclear Blast Entertainment.

"The Beauty Of Destruction" was produced by Logan Mader (FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, GOJIRA, DEVILDRIVER, SOULFLY) and mixed by Chris "Zeuss" Harris (HATEBREED, SOULFLY). Artwork for the album was created by noted painter and illustrator Travis Smith (OPETH, DEVIN TOWNSEND).

"When Travis Smith presented us with the initial sketches we were blown away,” commented Jones. “He captured the concept of the album perfectly. It’s hugely different than anything that’s out there and will be immediately recognizable as DEVIL YOU KNOW."

"The Beauty Of Destruction" track listing:

01. A New Beginning02. My Own03. Embracing The Torture04. For The Dead And Broken05. Seven Years Alone06. It's Over07. A Mind Insane08. Crawl From The Dark09. The Killer10. I Am The Nothing11. Shut It Down12. As Bright As The Darkness13. Sacrifice (bonus track - vinyl LP only)

As previously reported, DEVIL YOU KNOW will support BLACK LABEL SOCIETY on this year's Revolver Golden Gods Tour, which will kick off on April 16 in Portland and wrap up on June 7 in Los Angeles. Also appearing on the bill is DOWN.

DEVIL YOU KNOW's touring lineup is completed by guitarist Roy Lev-Ari and BLEEDING THROUGH bassist Ryan Wombacher.

DEVIL YOU KNOW made its live debut on February 15 at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, California. The group also took part in the 2014 edition of Australia's Soundwave Festival.

DEVIL YOU KNOW was born out of Artusato and Sankey's creative quest to stretch beyond their extreme metal backgrounds. The two had written over a dozen songs before even attempting to lock down a singer. "We were unsure if Howard would be interested," said Sankey." Yet, when KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's former frontman received the material, a creative ideal began to solidify.

Finally connecting in Los Angeles during the last months of 2012, a highly distinctive sound began to become apparent. "It turned from bare-bones musical ideas into something that surpassed any of our expectations," said Jones. "It went from something we thought was going to be a fun, heavy project into something very real." It was during a recording session at the start of 2013 with producer and former MACHINE HEAD and SOULFLY guitarist Logan Mader that DEVIL YOU KNOW's ideas began to alchemize into something none of the bands members would ever expect. "It became a departure from what I'm known for," said Artusato. "I wasn't focusing on technical guitar parts (even though I still love that aspect of writing) but simply on writing what felt best for each individual song."

The writing and recording process for DEVIL YOU KNOW's debut album "was surprisingly easy," stated Artusato. "When we get together it just works." The band is also quick to sum up the studio vibe with producer Mader as "intensely creative," said Sankey. "Logan definitely helped us realize and define the DEVIL YOU KNOW sound." Jones agreed: "He went from producer, to unsung member, to friend."

"It's a different style of music for me," said Jones of DEVIL YOU KNOW's unique sound. "It's heavy as anything any of us are known for but I get to do some different things people won't expect. I've been singing almost all my life. Being around good songwriters and musicians in my former bands really helped mold me into who I am now."

EKTOMORF: 'You Can't Control Me' Video Released

"You Can't Control Me", the new video from Hungarian extreme metallers EKTOMORF, can be seen below. The song is taken from the band's latest album, "Retribution", which was released on January 31 via AFM Records. The follow-up to 2012's "Black Flag" is described in a press release as a "first-class fist-in-your-face album, displaying heavy grooves and sheer power in the best of ways. Refining and bringing things to perfection was the goal, and this has been achieved impressively."

"Retribution" track listing:

01. You Can't Control Me02. Ten Plagues03. Face Your Fear04. Escape05. Who The Fuck Are You06. Numb And Sick07. Lost And Destroyed08. Souls Of Fire09. I Hate You10. Watch Me11. Mass Ignorance12. Save Me13. Whisper14. Collapsed Bridge

"Retribution" was again mixed and mastered by the band's longtime producer Tue Madsen (Antfarm Studios).

EKTOMORF's lyrics reflect this situation and deal with discrimination, society, pain and anger but show a strong will to survive and overcome all problems. Their music combines the burning fire of the primal gypsy music with modern elements: groovy, downtuned guitar riffs and aggressive drums, supplemented by powerful and raw screaming vocals became their trademarks.

In a recent interview with Metalholic.com, EKTOMORF guitarist/vocalist Zoltán Farkas stated about the band's constant comparisons to SOULFLY: "Everybody has their own influence. SOULFLY had their own influence, METALLICA has their own influence, SLAYER has their own influence. Every band has some influence and mine was SOULFLY [and] METALLICA, but then, of course, we got our own taste and that's the true form, and we have really good fans all over the world, and because if we were just a simple copy, all this would never happen. If were a cover band, like some say, it would never happen. It's easy to say that, it's so easy to say words and thoughts. I just call it ignorance and envy, but I learnt to handle it through the years, and for me, the most important is those people who love my music, who appreciate my music, because they are the most important, and for those who don't, it's not important, because anyway, they don't appreciate the music, so they don't count in my life, not even one minute. So, you know, we have our own faith and if someone says we sound like SOULFLY, then check out the latest stuff from SOULFLY and then check out 'Retribution', and if someone says it sounds the same. then they have some problem with their ears."

He continued: "For me, [SOULFLY mainman and ex-SEPULTURA frontman] Max [Cavalera] is a respectable legend, but for very long time I didn’t listen to SOULFLY, for a really, really long time, because, to me, what it does now is something which I don't like; I don't like it, man. It's more like death metal, and I like some death metal, but the SOULFLY I used to like does not exist anymore, neither SEPULTURA. [SEPULTURA] were something which I fell in love with and the anger, but for what they do now, I still have my respect for the band and for the legend and the name, but I gotta say that is nothing to compare with what they were."

WITHIN TEMPTATION: 'Hydra' Tour Diary Episode Four (Video)

After months of blood, sweat and tears from Dutch symphonic metallers WITHIN TEMPTATION, the band's new album, "Hydra", is now on the road. While the group is on tour, singer Sharon den Adel is keeping a video diary of the trek that shows you what happens during and in between shows, and what it's like for the band to bring "Hydra" to the stage and see people respond to the new songs for the first time.

The fourth episode of the diary is a special one, as it features some of WITHIN TEMPTATION's fans talking about the tour. In the previous episode, Sharon asked fans who have already been to the show to record a video telling her (and the rest of the world) what they thought of the shows, what they liked most and if they had any fun stories to share regarding the tour. Some of the videos were used in this week's episode.

WITHIN TEMPTATION's new album, "Hydra", sold around 15,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 16 on The Billboard 200 chart.

WITHIN TEMPTATION's previous CD, "Unforgiving", opened with 12,000 units back in March 2011 to land at No. 50.

"Hydra" was released in North America on February 4 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment, the new U.S. partnership between Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger and former Roadrunner Records A&R chief Monte Conner. The album was made available in several luxury formats. The cover artwork was created by Romano Molenaar ("X-Men", "Batman", "The Unforgiving").

The digital premium album, complete with digi-booklet, was made available on iTunes and includes 18 audio tracks and a music video. The digital premium album features bonus "Evolution Versions" of four new songs, which contain audio commentary from guitarist Robert Westerholt and singer Sharon Den Adel and give you unique access to the development of the songs, their lyrical inspiration and the sound of the initial demos and vocals.

In a recent interview with Ultimate-Guitar.com, WITHIN TEMPTATION vocalist Sharon Den Adel stated about the songwriting process for "Hydra"": "A lot of bands were inspired by the '80s at the time we were writing 'The Unforgiving' album. There was a lot of music based on the '80s coming out and it had a lot of '80s flavors. With this new album, even though we're only a few years further up the road, you can feel that music has changed again. Music is not inspired on the '80s, but more like there are different influences in the music again. Music's always organic, and you feel things are changing comfortably."

She added: "When people asked us after 'The Unforgiving', 'Are you gonna make another 'Unforgiving' album?" we said, 'Of course.' Because we were really full of it in a positive way. We really like the album a lot and still do like it a lot but we really feel there's an '80s feel to the songs. When we started writing this album, again we felt like we were already knowing we were gonna go a different direction also."

MASTODON: New Album Title Revealed

Atlanta progressive metallers MASTODON have set "Once More Round The Sun" as the title of their sixth album. The CD was recorded at a Franklin, Tennessee studio with producer Nick Raskulinecz, who has previously worked with FOO FIGHTERS, RUSH and ALICE IN CHAINS, among others. The cover artwork is being created by Oakland-based artist Skinner, who specializes in "psychedelic nightmare paintings." MASTODON singer and bassist Troy Sanders told Paste Magazine: "It's going to be a work of art for sure. It's going to be very eye-opening, very striking. It's from another dimension, and a lot of our music is geared toward that idea — taking you to another planet on songs. It's out there, and I think it's incredible."

Regarding the new MASTODON album title, Sanders told Paste Magazine: "The idea was generated before we recorded the title track on the record, but the title was thought up many months ago.

"After we finished the two-year touring cycle on our last record, 'The Hunter', we were kind of gearing up to go back to our rehearsal space in Atlanta. And we were starting the effort, the time, the blood, the energy, the months of driving, the recording and the long process between recording and the release day.

"In a nutshell: we're fortunate enough to do this again, but there's this feeling of this yearly cycle. It's not a bad thing. We get to go tour a bunch, we get to record a bunch of songs we love. It's embracing the positive — the wonderful side, to be able to have the same four dudes who love doing what we do so much. And like anything in the MASTODON world, it's open to interpretation."

According to Sanders, MASTODON recorded more than an album's worth of material this time around, with the possibility an additional EP coming out sometime after the album release.

"We didn't want a 90-minute album," he told Paste Magazine. "We like to record around the 60-minute mark. That's what our favorite records are. We're in love with all 15 of [the songs], so they might all see the light of day in some platform or another."

Songtitles set to appear on "Once More Round The Sun" include "Ember City" and "Diamonds In The Witch House", the latter of which features yet another guest spot from longtime collaborator Scott Kelly of NEUROSIS.

"I think subconsciously that we're trying to involve him with every album enough to have a full set of songs eventually," Sanders joked. "I think his performance is great, his part still gives me chills. That's a great sign."

Asked what it's been like working with Raskulinecz on the new album, MASTODON guitarist Bill Kelliher told Metal Hammer magazine: "It's something that we totally need — a cheerleader to get our asses in gear. There he is saying, 'Come on, you're MASTODON… you're one of the biggest bands in metal… Smash that hammer down and write some heavy shit. It's time to do or die!' He's that kind of a guy."

MASTODON drummer Brann Dailor recently told RollingStone.com about the band's forthcoming CD: "It's gonna be massive and insane, lots of epic greatness. There will be lots of huge riffs and new directions. It's real weird, real math-y, real straightforward. It's up, down and all around. It's a culmination of everything for the band. The snowball keeps rolling and collecting snow."

KISS Plays Rare Unplugged Concert In California; Video Available

KISS played a rare unplugged concert last night (Thursday, April 3) at Highland, California's San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino. According to The Pulse Of Radio, the show, which came only one week before the band's induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, is notable seeing as how co-founders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley have ruled out KISS performing in any configuration at the induction ceremonies in Brooklyn. The casino gig was dubbed "An Acoustic Evening And Stories With Kiss", which recalled not only the band's impromptu performances at past KISS conventions, but the original lineup's legendary 1995 reunion as part of "MTV Unplugged".

The setlist was as follows:

01. Comin; Home02. Calling Dr. Love03. Hard Luck Woman04. Christine Sixteen05. Hide Your Heart06. Goin' Blind07. Cold Gin08. Do You Love Me09. Nothin’ To Lose10. Love Her All I Can11. A World Without Heroes12. Plaster Caster13. Take Me14. See You Tonite15. Rock Bottom16. You Shook Me (LED ZEPPELIN cover)17. LED ZEPPELIN Medley18. Mississippi Queen (MOUNTAIN cover)19. Got To Choose20. Shout It Out Loud21. Rock And Roll All Nite The acoustic show was filmed by AMC as part of the upcoming reality show based around the AFL football team the LA KISS, which is part owned by Simmons and Stanley.

Gene Simmons told The Pulse Of Radio that attending a KISS concert should be viewed as nothing less than a religious rock experience. "There's something else going on, that somehow words don't really get to — in the same way that, perhaps, when you think about a Southern Baptist church revival," he said. "Your spirit is lifted when you walk out of there. You feel glad to be alive another day. I'd like to think that when you leave our show, you feel exhilarated -- physically exhausted, but there's something to talk about."
