DEATH DEALER – War Master To Be Released On Vinyl By Pure Steel Records
 DEATH DEALER, the group consisting of guitarist Ross "The Boss" Friedman (MANOWAR), vocalist Sean Peck (CAGE), guitarist Stu Marshall (EMPIRES OF EDEN), and bassist Mike Davis (HALFORD, LIZZY BORDEN) and ex-INTO ETERNITY drummer Steve Bolognese will have their debut album, War Master issued on vinyl by Pure Steel Records.
The release will be a double gatefold with all the Marc Sasso artwork. A release date has not been announced yet.

SISTER To Release 'Disguised Vultures' Album In January
 Swedish hard rock act SISTER will release its new album, "Disguised Vultures", on January 21 in North America and January 27 in Europe via Metal Blade Records. The CD was recorded with Martin Sweet and Linus Birbrant and features the previously released single "Sick".
European fans were able to get their hands on a limited colored seven-inch single of "Sick" while the band was on tour with WEDNESDAY 13 throughout Europe.
"Disguised Vultures" emphasizes what the band is all about: heavy, raw sound and attitude. Fans will find plenty more of what Revolver magazine described as "a genre-bending amalgam of street punk attitude and glam-inspired melodies" on this new album. | 0 | |

GOJIRA's JOSEPH DUPLANTIER Discusses Songwriting Process For Next Album
 In a brand new interview with Performer.com, guitarist/vocalist Joseph Duplantier of French progressive metallers GOJIRA revealed that the band has begun writing material for its next album, tentatively due in 2014. Many of the creative sessions so far have taken place on the tour bus, a phenomenon that Joe admitted is rather new for them.
"I actually hate it," he said. "I mean, I love it when there's an idea and it works and it sounds like there are things happening, but it's really weird to sit in the middle of all these shoes — because everybody throws their shoes in the back lounge, and dirty socks — and a computer, and [drummer/brother Mario Duplantier's drum] pad…
"We're not a rock band anymore, you know? It's like being in a cage, a stinky cage with a computer. It's not the same. I need to be in a room with my friends and jam, so I cannot wait to get to that stage."
He continued: "It's mostly riffs and ideas that we record. We have a list of riffs, but we don't have, really, a song. Well, we have two songs that [we think], Okay, there's a structure here and there are enough ideas to make something. Some of the stuff is really exciting, but the conditions are really difficult, and when the bus is driving…"
GOJIRA's fifth album, "L'Enfant Sauvage", sold almost 11,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 34 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's previous CD, "The Way Of All Flesh", opened with 4,200 units back in 2008 to land at No. 138.
"L'Enfant Sauvage" entered the official chart in France at position No. 7 (No. 17 on the digital chart).
"L'Enfant Sauvage" (which translates to "The Wild Child") features 11 tracks of mind-bending, thunderous metal. The CD was recorded at Spin Recording Studios in Long Island City, New York with co-producer Josh Wilbur (LAMB OF GOD).

ORCHID To Begin Recording In Spring 2014
 Rock Overdose recently caught up with guitarist Mark Thomas Baker of San Francisco-based heavy rockers ORCHID to find out what the band is up to. An excerpt from the interview follows:
Q: What are you up to these days? What are we to expect?
A: "For the next few months we will finish writing the next album and get all the pre-production done to begin recording in the spring."
Q: What’s the best experience you've had as a band? Would you like to share it with us?
A: "There have been so many. I guess this tour that we just finished with BLUES PILLS and SCORPION CHILD was the most fun time that we’ve had."

Orchid released The Zodiac Sessions on November 15th via Nuclear Blast. The album consists of the band's early works - 2009's Through The Devil's Doorway EP as well as the debut full length Capricorn (2011).
For The Zodiac Sessions, both releases have been completely remastered and put on one CD in a lavish digipak featuring an all new cover art, created by the band's gifted singer, Theo Mindell. On vinyl, both parts of The Zodiac Sessions will be released separately - on 10“ (Through The Devil's Doorway) and on 2LP 12“ (Capricorn) and will be made available in various colors.

THE CATALYST Complete Work On New Album
 Montreal, Quebec-based thrash/death band THE CATALYST check in with an update:
"We are very happy to announce, after months of hard work, many unforeseen obstacles, and determination, we have now finished work on our new album! We would like to thank all of you that stood by us over the last year as we basically went into seclusion, writing and recording this record. We could not have completed this without the support of those closest to us and all of you and your constant encouragement.
We promise all of you that 2014 will likely be the busiest touring/live performance year in our band's history. Japan's MYPROOF Call It Quits
 Shimpei, guitarist and vocalist for Japan's MYPROOF, has issued the following statement regarding earlier reports that the band has split up:
"You might have seen the news on our official page and Twitter, but we would like to inform you that, as of 11/1, MyProof has officially disbanded. Although we kept working constantly with the same members in the course of 15 years, our path finally comes to an end.
From this point onwards, I'm going to share my personal opinion, but since the start of the new year the whole band went through unprecedented mental exhaustion and we had to talk about it repeatedly in order for the situation to be settled.
Because we were a band that involved the help/collaboration of many people, we tried to keep our responsibilities at least towards the remaining lives and the scheduled release at the time and planned to take a break after that. We also tried finding more constructive solutions, but even so, our efforts were in vain because no one could eventually go forward (regarding musical direction) or perform on stage.
Of course, as a band of four members, we all have a part of the responsibility, however I, as a leader, have to admit that my emotional strength was insufficient, which is a big part of the reason why we came down to this conclusion.
This band's path was essentially connected to my own life, so it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that it was my everything. Therefore, I honestly do not know what's in store for me from now on. However, keeping MyProof's positive messages in my heart, I will keep going on, towards the future with new hope and sincere effort.
I would like to say I feel deeply thankful towards everybody who ever got involved with MyProof, as work partner or as a fan.
Last but not least, I would like to sincerely thank Thor, Kai and Tadashi for their collaborative efforts until now."

DESTINITY Announce New Vocalist; Video Streaming
 Earlier this year, Lyon, France-based melodic death metallers DESTINITY parted ways with vocalist Mick. The band have now issued the following update:
"Hail friends and fans! It has been a few months without much news from us, during which we went through a recent lineup change but also a new direction for the band. Destinity is now proud to present its new singer Yan Pierrat (former lead singer of X-VISION and current singer of the band FIFTEEN). After having auditioned quite a number of applicants, we chose Yan for his outstanding performance that impressed all of us in terms of energy and vocal ability. He also has various experiences on stage which will surely bring some freshness and a modern touch for Destinity's future. And now a short message from Yan..."
"It is with great pride that I join Destinity as lead singer. I wish to thank them for their trust and I can't wait to meet you all on our next gigs!"

ELVENKING To Enter Studio Next Week
 Italian metallers ELVENKING will enter Domination Studios in San Marino on December 16 to begin recording the follow-up to 2012's "Era" for a late spring release. Symohn will track the drums next week, laying down the foundations of what the band already considers "the ultimate ELVENKING manifesto." Artist Gyula Havancsak, who previously worked with ELVENKING on the covers for "The Winter Wake", "The Scythe" and "Two Tragedy Poets" is already creating new a masterpiece of art.
Comments ELVENKING singer Davide "Damna" Moras: "It is always very easy to talk about 'the last album.' To say how cool it is, how the band has improved and created better music, better lyrics and so on.
"This new ELVENKING album is something completely different, though. We are not talking about a simple new album with a bunch of new songs. We are talking about something bigger. It is a piece of life... of our life, but also our fans' life. It is the ELVEN dream come true. It is our ultimate manifesto where music, lyrics and spirit unite. It's not just about music... there's a whole concept behind this album... It's like when stars align, you know? And this time we are ready! But we'll talk about it more specifically very soon."
Adds guitarist Aydan: "I consider this album to be the closest to the original conceptual idea of the band.
"When we founded ELVENKING, our idea was to mix up strong epic and intense music with influences from folklore and with lyrics based on our personal idea of life and what we consider as a personal sort of paganism. Through the years, we moved steps away from our original path in search of new stimuli and way to express ourselves as songwriters, but now we want to carve the word ELVENKING in our music and idea where the origins of our band are."

BLACK SABBATH Is 'Ecstatic, Surprised And Very Happy' About Latest GRAMMY Nominations
 BLACK SABBATH continued its sterling comeback year by earning Grammy nominations for "Best Rock Album" for "13", along with "Best Metal Performance" and "Best Rock Song" for "God Is Dead?"
BLACK SABBATH's last Grammy win was in 2000 for "Best Metal Performance" for "Iron Man" from the band's "Reunion" live album.
"We are ecstatic, surprised and very happy!" Osbourne said about the latest Grammy nods.
The 56th annual Grammy Awards will take place Sunday, January 26 at the Los Angeles Staples Center and will be broadcast live at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
"13", the first SABBATH album in 35 years to feature guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and Ozzy Osbourne recording together, went No. 1 around the world, earning the band their first chart-topper ever in the U.S.
Ozzy said about the prospects of making another record, "I don't want to say there's going to be another album, because I don't want you to ask me in another year, 'What happened when you said you were going to do another record?' I'll leave it open. I'm open for anything. I have three albums to deliver of my own solo thing to my record label."
Ozzy added, "We'll all still be doing music. It's been a lot of fun doing it with BLACK SABBATH, and I'm not sorry at all for getting back together."
The making of "13" was marked by several dramatic events, including drummer Bill Ward's withdrawal from the project over a contractual dispute and Iommi's cancer diagnosis.
BLACK SABBATH will return to North America in 2014 for 10 shows that will be among the last in support of "13".

U.K. Thrashers SHRAPNEL To Release 'The Virus Conspires' In February
 Candlelight Records has set a February 3, 2014 European release date for "The Virus Conspires", the full-length debut from English thrash metallers SHRAPNEL. Produced by Russ Russell (NAPALM DEATH, EVILE), it features artwork from Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT, ATHEIST). The album and its lead single, "Titan", will be available for preorder via iTunes and other digital platforms beginning January 6. Fast, furious, and uncompromising, "The Virus Conspires" is propelled by its freshness and electric intensity. KILL RITUAL Signs With GOLDEN CORE RECORDS / ZYX MUSIC
 San Francisco Bay Area metallers KILL RITUAL have inked a worldwide deal with Golden Core Records / ZYX Music. The band's second album, "The Eyes Of Medusa", will be released in the spring. The CD was recorded at Fossil Sound in San Jose, California and Fang Studio in San Mateo, California. Production/engineering was again handled by KILL RITUAL guitarist Steven Rice. HOUSE OF LORDS To Release 'Precious Metal' In February
 Frontiers Records will release the new HOUSE OF LORDS studio album entitled "Precious Metal" on February 21, 2014 in Europe and February 25, 2014 in North America.
"Precious Metal" is HOUSE OF LORDS' ninth studio album, following up the critically acclaimed "Big Money". This brand new release, recorded and produced by the band's singer and mastermind James Christian, again has a stellar sound, with solid and baroque songwriting mixed with unique melodic sensibilities and amazing musical skills.
Musically, "Precious Metal" shows a return to the roots of the band's sound. James Christian, as usual, sings his heart out and he sounds better than ever on these new songs. Guitarist Jimi Bell shines with heavy, but melodic riffs throughout the album, with Chris McCarville and B.J. Zampa bringing a solid and powerful rhythm foundation to the HOUSE OF LORDS sound.
In James Christian's words: "When we started to write this record, we knew after the first song that we were on to something special. The energy level was off the charts for all of us. Jimi Bell came out swinging and B.J. and Chris were just crushing it.
"Recording this album was very easy as the songs already had arrangements that were complete.
"'Precious Metal' is a testament to years of being a band that loves what they do and has so much more to offer in the years to come."
HOUSE OF LORDS debuted in 1989 with the release of the self-titled album, a monumental arena hard rock release which showcased the soaring vocals of James Christian and instrumental capabilities of the band (which featured ex-ANGEL and GIUFFRIA member Gregg Giuffria, along with such luminaries as Lanny Cordola, Chuck Wright and Ken Mary), reminiscent of such frontrunners as WHITESNAKE, DEEP PURPLE and VAN HALEN, immediately brought the band to the attention of the media and fans. After another two albums released until 2002, HOUSE OF LORDS went into hibernation until the original lineup came back together in 2000, releasing of the controversial "Power And The Myth" an album which featured a sound leaning more towards progressive hard rock with '70s rock influences.
After a short European tour, singer James Christian decided to go back to the trademark arena rock sound of HOUSE OF LORDS, putting together a new lineup. Since 2006, the band has a stable lineup featuring Jimi Bell on guitars, B.J. Zampa on drums and Chris McCarvill on bass which has been delivering impressive shows and fine releases such as "World Upside Down", "Come to My Kingdom", "Cartesian Dreams" and the recent "Big Money".

THROWDOWN: New Song 'Avow' Available For Streaming, Purchase
 "Avow", a brand new song from the Southern California metal act THROWDOWN, can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below. The track is taken from the band's new album, "Intolerance", which will be released on January 21, 2014 via eOne Music. The follow-up to 2009's "Deathless" was recorded at Hurley Recordings in Costa Mesa, California with rising producer Davey Warsop and mixed at Planet Z.
"I've written a lot of lyrical content coming off as rehashed," says THROWDOWN frontman Dave Peters. "I was meticulous, if not a little obsessive, about making all venture into similar territory.
"It's been two decades since I've been straight edge. 'Avow' is about how it was important to me."
"Avow" is available for purchase via iTunes today and is the first new music we've seen from the SoCal metal act since "Deathless" was released back in 2009.
"Intolerance" features guitar solo contributions from Dave Nassie (BLEEDING THROUGH, NO USE FOR A NAME, INFECTIOUS GROOVES), who joined THROWDOWN's recent touring lineup alongside DEMON HUNTER drummer Tim "Yogi" Watts and "Deathless"-era bassist Mark Mitchell.
Comments THROWDOWN frontman Dave Peters: "Completing this record felt great in so many respects, most important of which was the opportunity to finally give longtime supporters of the band this music that I've had swirling around in my head over the past four years.
"The variety of people from different places and scenes who have found the band through vastly different avenues over the past 15 or so years will each get into it for their own unique reasons, I think. And for those who think it’s junk, it's only about 28 minutes they have to regret."
"Intolerance" combines the massive production punch of the moody, sludgy and powerfully diverse masterpiece "Deathless" (which spawned the Sirius XM staples "This Continuum" and "The Scythe") with the focused resolve of the band's genre-classic-filled back catalog.
The big sound that developed on "Deathless" works magic upon the brutal missives found all over "Intolerance", nearly all of which clock in around two minutes.

STEEL PANTHER Performs New Song 'Glory Hole' Live For First Time (Video)
 Fan-filmed video footage of Los Angeles jokesters STEEL PANTHER performing their new song "Glory Hole" live for the first time on December 7 in Brisbane, Australia can be seen below.
STEEL PANTHER released "Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of The World", the first single/video from the band's third album, "All You Can Eat", which is due in early 2014.
Regarding the new CD title, singer Michael Starr said: "We feel like STEEL PANTHER is like a buffet. You know what I mean?! There's a little bit of everything for everybody. And you can have as much of us as you want."
STEEL PANTHER's new album was recorded in part in Sherman Oaks, California with producer Jay Ruston (ANTHRAX, STONE SOUR, MEATLOAF).
The not-safe-for-work version of the official "Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of The World" video can be seen below. (Warning: The video includes partial female nudity.) The clip includes celebrity cameos by "Jackass" star Steve-O, porn icon Ron Jeremy, "Breaking Bad" actor RJ Mitte and MMA fighter Chuck Liddell.
Speaking to the South Bend Tribune, STEEL PANTHER drummer Stix Zadinia (real name: Darren Leader) stated about the band's new CD: "If you liked [2009's] 'Feel The Steel' and [2011's] 'Balls Out', you will love this record. It is more heavy metal songs that are hooky and great and fun and make you want to rock and make you want to have a good time and party. Also, there is a lot of riffage on this album that I think anybody who has ever questioned this band — 'Oh, those guys wear spandex and it is 2000-whatever' — these songs are going to put all of that to rest."

AUGUST BURNS RED Releases New Christmas Track 'Dance Of The Sugar Plumb Fairy'
 Continuing its annual tradition of releasing an amped-up version of a classic Christmas song, AUGUST BURNS RED is streaming its cover of "Dance Of The Sugar Plumb Fairy" in the YouTube clip below.
The single marks the latest in a line of reinterpreted holiday classics from the band, all of which were collected in last year's release of "August Burns Red Presents: Sleddin' Hill, A Holiday Album".
For fans that don't already own the holiday album, "Sugar Plumb Fairy" will be added to the digital release, with the track also being available to purchase individually for those who do at iTunes, AmazonMp3, Google Play or wherever digital music is sold.
Released last holiday season, the 13-track (now 14, for the digital version) "Sleddin' Hill" features fresh takes on a variety of Christmas classics, such as "Jingle Bells", "Winter Wonderland" and even "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer". Video Premiere: SOULFLY's 'Bloodshed'
 SOULFY's video for the song "Bloodshed" can be seen below. The track is taken from the band's ninth album, "Savages", which was released on October 1 via SOULFLY's new label home, Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The CD was produced by Terry Date, who is known for his work with such acts as PANTERA, DEFTONES and SOUNDGARDEN, among many others. Guest vocal appearances on "Savages" include SOULFLY bass player Tony Campos, CLUTCH's Neil Fallon, NAPALM DEATH's Mitch Harris, Jamie Hanks of I DECLARE WAR and SOULFLY mainman Max Cavalera's son Igor Cavalera (of LODY KONG).
"['Bloodshed'] is about the absurdity of the human condition in territories plagued by bloodshed all over the world," commented Max Cavalera. "Not just recent events like Iraq, but also historical conflicts such as the U.S. Civil War, World Wars I and II, etc."

The cover artwork for "Savages" was created by renowned artist Paul Stottler, who is best known for his work on SACRED REICH's legendary "Surf Nicaragua" cover.
Date previously mixed SOULFLY's "3" (2002), "Prophecy" (2004) and "Dark Ages" (2005) albums, but had never produced any of the group's CDs.
The drum tracks on the new SOULFLY CD were laid down by Max's 20-year-old son, Zyon Cavalera, who joined the band as its touring drummer for its recent rampage through North America.
"I am very proud and it is very cool that Zyon is in the band," said Max Cavalera. "He brings a lot of energy to the band. He is 20 years old now and already a really good drummer. He is permanently on tour with us now and every night he really plays his heart out. We are all very excited to have him in the band and he did a really good job on the new album."

LEGACY X Supergroup To Release Debut Album Via FRONTIERS RECORDS
 LEGACY X, the new band featuring legendary vocalist Joe Lynn Turner (RAINBOW, DEEP PURPLE, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) alongside drummer Carmine Appice (VANILLA FUDGE, CACTUS, MOTHER'S ARMY), bassist Tony Franklin (THE FIRM, BLUE MURDER) and guitarist Jeff Watson (NIGHT RANGER, MOTHER'S ARMY), has inked a deal with Frontiers Records. The group's debut album will be released in the spring.
Watson joined LEGACY X as the replacement for Bruce Kulick (KISS, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD), who was unable to commit to the new project due to his heavy touring schedule with GRAND FUNK RAILROAD.
The full interview where Turner talks about LEGACY X, RAINBOW, SCHUBERT IN ROCK and SUNSTORM will be available at The Rainbow Fanclan Legacy later this week.
Joe Lynn Turner, Carmine Appice and Jeff Watson previously played together in MOTHER'S ARMY, the 1990s hard rock "supergroup" which released three albums before splitting up in 1998.

Drummer Mike Portnoy (FLYING COLORS, THE WINERY DOGS, DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD) quit ADRENALINE MOB in June due to "scheduling conflicts."
In a recent interview with Brazil's "Wikimetal", Allen stated about Portnoy's departure from ADRENALINE MOB: "He's been, obviously, real busy with THE WINERY DOGS. The truth of it is we wanna keep working, we wanna keep doing ADRENALINE MOB and we don't wanna wait around for Mike to have the time [to put into ADRENALINE MOB]. And he doesn't know when he will have the time again, so that's really what's going down. Mike Portnoy was asked to be in the band by myself. Me and Orlando had already written all the material, so [ADRENALINE MOB's debut album] 'Omertá' was completely finished before Mike joined the act. And it's a bummer, but he's got his sights on other things, and he's not gonna stick around. So we wish him the best of luck, but the MOB's gotta go on."

CYNIC: Official Lyric Video For New Song 'The Lion's Roar'
 Legendary progressive rock innovators CYNIC — consisting of guitarist/vocalist Paul Masvidal, drummer Sean Reinert and bassist Sean Malone — will release their new album, "Kindly Bent To Free Us", on February 14, 2014 via Season Of Mist. The CD was produced by CYNIC at L.A.'s Perfect Sound Studios. The effort was engineered by Jason Donaghy (BAND OF HORSES, FEIST, ROB ZOMBIE, RYAN ADAMS), mixed by R. In a February 2012 interview with Ireland's Molten magazine, Masvidal described the band's new music in the following way: "It's almost like, I don't know how to explain it, but if I had to put it in a box it's more sci-fi, futuristic and alien but at the same time very song-driven. It's kind of like, to me, coming into CYNIC's body more. It feels very modern and at the same time it just feels really cool. I'm big in the space. It's definitely new. It's not like anything we've done before. It's a new color, a new space. I think people will really take note of even the guitar stuff. I'm really shifting gears, I'm trying things in a different way and the way stuff is played. It's a new space for CYNIC, for sure. It definitely sounds like us, except completely new."
CYNIC's latest EP, "Carbon-Based Anatomy", was released in November 2011 via Season Of Mist. The CD artwork was designed by the great Robert Venosa, the artist behind the covers of CYNIC's previous releases "Focus", "Traced in Air" and "Re-Traced".

METALLICA Sets World Record By Performing Concerts On All Seven Continents In Under A Year
 METALLICA set a world record on December 8, 2013 by becoming the first and only band in history to perform concerts on all seven continents in under a year.
METALLICA's 10-song show in Antarctica on Sunday "was the most unique show [the band] has ever done," the group said in a statement. "The band, contest winners, research station scientists (from Russia, South Korea, China, Poland, Chile, Brazil and Germany), and the ship crew, all crammed in this little dome out on the helipad of Carlini Station in Antarctica! The energy in the little dome was amazing! Words cannot describe how happy everyone was." The METALLICA concert was sponsored by Coca-Cola Zero and fans from several Latin and South American countries had a chance to enter a contest and win the opportunity to join the band on the expedition.
The concert took place under a dome at the Carlini Argentine Base and was heard by the fans through headphones, with no other amplifiers or sound system. The gig was also live-streamed in the participating countries.

Speaking to Nikki Blakk of the San Francisco, California radio station 107.7 The Bone last month, METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett said: "We are playing Antarctica; it's pretty wacky. It's crazy, because I don't deal with cold very well, so I have my reservations. But it should be pretty cool, because we've played the North Pole before — we've played Tuktoyaktuk [in 1995]— so we have to play the South Pole. Tuktoyaktuk was fine; it wasn't as cold as it sounded. But I have a feeling that the Antarctica is a lot colder than the North Pole. And it should be an interesting experience."

VISTA CHINO: 'Sweet Remain' Video Released
 "Sweet Remain", the new video from VISTA CHINO, the group comprised of two founding members of the legendary rock band KYUSS — Brant Bjork and John Garcia — and guitarist Bruno Fevery, can be seen below. VISTA CHINO tapped Mike Dean (CORROSION OF CONFORMITY) to play bass on the band's recent European tour.
Dean handled bass duties for VISTA CHINO at their first North American performance, which took place at this year's Orion Music + More festival — curated by METALLICA — in Detroit, Michigan. The final live appearances of KYUSS LIVES! — featuring the same lineup as VISTA CHINO — took place in early 2013 as part of Australia's Soundwave Festival.
KYUSS LIVES! decided to change its name after a lawsuit launched by former KYUSS members Josh Homme and Scott Reeder prevented KYUSS LIVES! from recording and releasing any new material. Speaking to Music Feeds, drummer Brant Bjork was asked whether there was a slight sense of relief that the legal dispute over the KYUSS name is over. "Absolutely," he replied. "There's always relief when conflict is resolved and people can just let go and move forward. That's where we're at and we feel great. It's always unfortunate to experience differences with specific people, but we feel great as a band. We're really, really excited to move forward into the future and focus on what it is that we do, which is play music."
Regarding whether the change of band's name to VISTA CHINO would have happened had it not been for the lawsuit, Brant said: "That's a good question. The answer to that question is: I don't know. Possibly. We didn't really think about it. We were really just looking at what was in front of us and making our decisions based on what our present situation was. But now we just came to a point where we felt that changing the name was appropriate and was the fastest way for us to get back to playing music." | 0 | |

GHOST: 'Year Zero' Pro-Shot Performance Clip From New York City
 Professionally filmed video footage of Swedish occult rockers GHOST performing the song "Year Zero" live on May 11 at Webster Hall in New York City can be seen below.
A nameless ghoul stated: "Playing in New York will always feel very special for us, since it was the first city in the U.S. that embraced us. Every time we play there, it marks another step up for us — going from filling up the basement at Webster Hall, to filling up the Bowery to finally play at sold-out Webster Hall. We simply love New York."
GHOST's new covers EP, "If You Have Ghost", sold around 5,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 87 on The Billboard 200 chart. Issued on November 19 via Loma Vista Recordings, the five-track EP was recorded and produced by Dave Grohl (FOO FIGHTERS, NIRVANA), and includes cover versions of songs by ROKY ERICKSON, ABBA, ARMY OF LOVERS and DEPECHE MODE, plus a live version of the GHOST offering "Secular Haze", recorded in Brooklyn earlier this year. Outside North America (with the exception of Scandinavia), Spinefarm Records is the new releasing partner for Loma Vista on all GHOST recordings, including the new EP and previous album. GHOST also appeared at various music festivals across the U.S. this summer, including Coachella, Lollapalooza and Rock On The Range. In Europe, GHOST has joined forces with ALICE IN CHAINS for a run of dates that started in the U.K. on November 9, before heading across to mainland Europe.
GHOST was forced to modify its name in the U.S. to GHOST B.C. for "legal reasons."

FIREWIND: Video Recap Of Australian Tour
 Official Fire TV video recap of FIREWIND's recently completed Australian tour can be seen below.
FIREWIND celebrated its 10th anniversary by releasing a live album on June 24 via Century Media Records in Europe. Entitled "Apotheosis - Live 2012", the CD contains 17 songs recorded at special anniversary shows in Greece as well as all over Europe during the band's "Few Against Many" tour in 2012. With a playing time of 69 minutes, the effort is a great overview of the band's career so far, which consists of seven studio albums. It also marks FIREWIND's final release with singer Apollo Papathanasio, who decided to leave the group at the end of last year. He has since been replaced by Kelly Sundown Carpenter (ADAGIO, BEYOND TWILIGHT) as session frontman for all 2013 live activities.
The cover artwork for "Apotheosis - Live 2012", which was released as a digipak in its first limited-edition pressing, was designed by FIREWIND's longtime partner in all design matters, Gustavo Sazes (ARCH ENEMY, ANGRA, DREAM EVIL) based on live photography by Hans-W. Rock.
In a recent interview with Metal Assault, Gus G. stated about Apollo's departure: "People following the band for the past few years would know that we've had different session guys at the live shows even when Apollo was in the band because he just had to skip a few tours during the year. So whenever the schedule was getting too heavy for him and he would have to take care of stuff back home, we had to get other guys. So this time, he had to skip again and he was like, 'You know, instead of holding you guys back, I might as well just quit.' I think he did the right thing for him, for us as well, because we can only do that [getting session vocalists] so many times and we're better off trying to find a new permanent guy instead of getting replacements for a tour. So at least now we know that we have to find somebody new, and in a sense it's a bit sad, but at the same time it's some sort of relief."
Asked how Carpenter is doing as the touring replacement for Papathanasio, Gus told Metal Shock Finland: "He's fantastic, this guy. Everybody who sees him perform live, their jaws are dropped immediately. They're, like, 'Wow!' It's amazing what this guy can do with his voice. And he's such a nice guy, too. I mean, we started out with Kelly, 'cause we didn't know him. And he really nailed it on the songs, he killed it. We hired the guy to go out with us and do the U.S. tour and the festivals, not really committing to further plans. We kind of take it day by day and see how it works between us, and so far it's been really good. Right now, there are no plans for us to go back in the studio very quickly, so we'll see when the time comes what will happen. But so far so good with Kelly. I hope it will continue."
FIREWIND's latest album, "Few Against Many", entered the official chart in Greece at No. 42 and in Germany at No. 90. SERJ TANKIAN's 'Disarming Time' Art Exhibit: Video Footage From Opening Night
 Project Gallery has welcomed multifaceted musician, artist, poet and activist Serj Tankian in the premiere of his debut interactive art exhibit, "Disarming Time". A uniquely audible and visual experience, "Disarming Time" features a collection of Tankian's 22 original art pieces: paintings, mixed media and sculptural works paired with a track of music composed specifically for each visual work. Via a set of headphones accompanied by his newly created iOS/Android application "Eye For Sound" (powered by VStory), smartphones are able to scan and recognize art and immediately cue the associated audio track and other content. Of the project which began in early 2013, Tankian says, "The urge came to me in the discovery that music has become so temporal and devalued in the world today, so I wanted to create an exclusive experience…something unique for someone to hold so they become the only person to experience this. I'm aiming to have people SEE the music and HEAR the art. Using a modern app, we're able to take Kandinsky's 'Synesthesia' to a whole new level."

Serj Tankian was on born August 21, 1967 in Beirut, Lebanon and is an Armenian-American singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, poet, painter and political activist. He is best known as the lead vocalist, songwriter, keyboardist and occasional live rhythm guitarist of the metal band SYSTEM OF A DOWN. During his musical career, Tankian has released five albums with SYSTEM OF A DOWN, one with Arto Tunçboyacıyan ("Serart"), as well as four solo albums: "Elect The Dead", "Imperfect Harmonies", "Harakiri" and "Orca", his first real classical symphony. A live orchestral version of "Elect The Dead" incorporating the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra named "Elect The Dead Symphony" was released in 2009. He's also released two books of poetry, "Cool Gardens" and "Glaring Through Oblivion". In 2002, Tankian and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE/AUDIOSLAVE guitarist Tom Morello co-founded a non-profit organization, Axis Of Justice. Tankian also founded the record label Serjical Strike Records and in 2011 he was awarded the Armenian Prime Minister's Medal for his contributions to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the advancement of music.
The application "Eye For Sound" was born from the desire to create a unique and immersive musical experience that reconnects the value of tangible products to music. It provides a fusion of art and music easily accessed through a smartphone or tablet making each experience personal and unique to each user. By exploring the simultaneous connection between art and music via optical recognition, each user experiences a one of a kind stimulation of the senses. "Eye For Sound" was created with broad intention and aims to become a platform for other artists to utilize.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD Singer Issues Update On Animated Series, Mobile Game
 AVENGED SEVENFOLD singer M. Shadows has issued the following update via the band's official web site:
"First, we want to thank all of our friends that we just saw in Europe. Hands down the best tour that we have ever had over there. It was an honor to play for you all every night.
"As we promised, we are slowly filling in summer dates so we can come play for you again. We also have been getting quite a few requests for new countries that we haven't played yet. We will use this summer as an opportunity to come to few new places. Please stay tuned for that.
"As for the rest of the world, we hear you, and we will be coming soon!
"By now you've already heard announcements about Download festival, Graspop Metal Meeting, Nova Rock festival and Aerodome, and there will be a lot more dates announced in the coming months. Right now, though, we have decided to hang out at home until we get over to Australia for Soundwave Festival in February.
"Since we have a couple months off, we wanted to update you on a couple things that we promised a while back.
"First is our 'Hail To The King' animated series that we did with Machinima and Jon Schnepp. You may know Jon from his work on 'Metalocalypse' on Adult Swim. It's funny stuff and it was an honor to work with him. Below is the trailer for the series, which will debut December 15th. We hope it gives you something entertaining to watch over your holiday break. The series also plays as a backstory to our mobile game, 'Hail To The King: Deathbat'. We felt this was the best way to tell the story and give you all an idea about the type of game we are creating.
"This brings us to the game. Two years ago while touring in Southeast Asia, I looked around the bus taking us from the airport to the hotel and noticed everyone was on their phones and iPads playing different types of games. We had a discussion and decided that it would be fun to create one of our own. The problem was that we didn't feel passionate about doing a full-on typical music game. We wanted to do something different. Something inspired by some of our favorite games. So we came up with the idea of turning some of our songs and art work into a living, breathing, evil world. We wanted to bring the story of the Deathbat to life and allow you to control its destiny.
"While the game stands on its own in terms of the story and game play, we still wanted to add in some extras for our fans. In the game, you can unlock 16 pieces of never-seen-before artwork from all of our albums. There will also be 7 new Cam Rackam paintings available in the game. We also recorded 7 new songs. Now these aren't metal songs, they are theme songs for each level and are done in an old-school video game fashion with a new-school twist. There will also be reimagined versions of older songs. Basically, we have not only packed the game with exciting gameplay, but also a lot of things for fans that might now be interested in a video game.
"The trailer for the game will be released with the Machinima 'Hail To The King' series on December 15th as well. Expect a release date in early 2014 as we are in the Beta process now.
"Remember, the game and series go hand in hand. The animated series tells the story 'before' the game takes place. When the series ends, the game picks up.
"We hope these things keep you entertained while you're hanging out at home for the holiday season. Most importantly, we hope you all enjoy the time with your families and we will see you on the road as soon as we can make it to you."
