EPICA: 'Unleashed' Performance Clip From 'Retrospect' DVD
 Dutch symphonic metal band EPICA celebrated its 10th anniversary with a one-night-only event, dubbed "Retrospect", on March 23 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The band was accompanied by the seventy-piece Reményi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Miskolc National Theatre Choir, playing an unforgettable three-hour best-of set. According to respected Dutch newspaper the Volkskrant, "The band wrote a chapter of Dutch metal history" this evening. Rock Tribune (Belgium) thought it was "an unforgettable show." Ten high-definition cameras captured this very special sold-out show while EPICA played in front of nearly five thousand ecstatic fans. In addition to a collection of the band's biggest hits from across the spectrum of their entire catalog, this once-in-a-lifetime spectacular also featured the live debut of "Twin Flames" and the previously unreleased "Retrospect", covers of classics by Vivaldi, Pergolesi, and Oscar-winning film composer John Williams, two guest collaborations with the venerable Floor Jansen (NIGHTWISH, REVAMP), and a very special performance of their breakthrough single "Quietus" with founding members Jeroen Simons, Ad Sluijter and Yves Huts. On November 8, Nuclear Blast will release "Retrospect" as a deluxe hardcover book with 48 pages, both as a 2DVD/3CD and 2Blu-ray/3CD version.

DEATH ANGEL: Entire 'Dream Calls For Blood' Album Available For Streaming
 "The Dream Calls For Blood", the seventh album from San Francisco Bay Area metallers DEATH ANGEL, can be streamed in its entirety using the SoundCloud widget below. In a recent interview with Metal Covenant, DEATH ANGEL guitarist Rob Cavestany stated about "The Dream Calls For Blood": "The title is basically our motto. It's what we're talking about, you know. In our point of view the dream being our band and keeping the band going and making music for your life. The blood is all the sacrifice and all hard work that goes into it and that's the metaphor for that. It's not only meant for music. It's also meant for other people to relate in their own life and goals that they're trying to achieve and the sacrifices that it takes to achieve these goals. And along with that, there's also a tinge of aggression in there about other people that cut corners and don't quite go through all the steps it takes to achieve the goal the right way. So there's a little bit of a middle finger to those people that go about it that way and don't fully respect what it takes."

HIRAX: 'Hellion Rising' Single Artwork Unveiled
 California thrashers HIRAX will release a new digital single on November 22.
"Hellion Rising" was produced by Bill Metoyer (SLAYER, ARMORED SAINT, W.A.S.P., SACRED REICH) and recorded at Skull Seven Studio in North Hollywood. This four-minute thrash attack with a cover drawn by Maggot Meister (All Things Rotten) will give you the first hint what you can expect from HIRAX's new studio album, "Immortal Legacy", which will be released on March 4, 2014 (February 24 in Europe) via SPV/Steamhammer.
"Immortal Legacy" contains "14 new raging thrash metal songs that will make you bang your head," according to HIRAX singer Katon W. De Pena. He adds: "This is our most epic-sounding record to date, sonically powerful and over the top." The CD features guest appearances by Jim Durkin (DARK ANGEL), Juan Garcia (AGENT STEEL, EVILDEAD) and Rocky George (SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, FISHBONE).
Philip Lawvere, the artist behind such classic album covers as KREATOR's "Pleasure To Kill" and CELTIC FROST's "Emperor's Return", designed the "Immortal Legacy" cover. Lawvere had done stunning illustrations for numerous albums and is best known for a slew of thrash metal offerings released on Noise Records.

DEEP PURPLE: 'Black Night' Performance Clip From 'Perfect Strangers Live' DVD
 1984 saw the long-awaited reunion of the classic DEEP PURPLE Mark II lineup of Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Jon Lord and Ian Paice. It was the first time they had been together since 1973. They recorded a brand new studio album, "Perfect Strangers", and headed out on tour. The band's show in Melbourne, Australia was professionally filmed and is the only full-length concert recording of the band at this time.
The "Perfect Strangers Live" DVD — due out October 14 via Eagle Vision — is a stunning concert with the band in incendiary form. The setlist mixes then new tracks from the "Perfect Strangers" album with favourites from the early seventies culminating in the brilliant "Smoke On The Water" finale. This is without doubt one of the finest DEEP PURPLE concerts ever filmed and a must have for their legions of fans.

Sweden's CIVIL WAR Writing New Material
 CIVIL WAR — the Swedish metal band featuring former SABATON members Rikard Sundén (guitar), Daniel Mullback (drums), Daniel Mÿhr (keyboards) and Oskar Montelius (guitar) alongside singer Patrik Johansson (ASTRAL DOORS, LION'S SHARE) and bassist Stefan "Pizza" Eriksson (VOLTURYON) — is working on material for its sophomore album. The group states: "Without saying too much, we can reveal that it will be more power and more metal!"
CIVIL WAR's full-length debut, "The Killer Angels", was certified gold in Sweden by the International Federation Of The Phonographic Industry for sales in excess of 20,000 copies.
(Note: The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry [IFPI] in Sweden has revised the sales requirements for albums to reach gold status in the country twice in the last 11 years — from the pre-2002 level of 40,000 to the current 20,000.)
"The Killer Angels" was distributed in Sweden via the June 2013 issue of Sweden Rock Magazine and each copy of the magazine containing the CD was counted towards the certification; the album was also sold separately.
The members of CIVIL WAR were presented with their gold plaques before headlining the Metal War festival in Budapest, Hungary. Commented the band: "Selling 20,000-plus in our home country is something none of us could ever imagine when getting into the sessions leading up to the album. Even though we felt we made a solid record, getting these numbers was still something we couldn't predict upon our wildest imagination." CIVIL WAR's debut EP was released on November 13, 2012 via Despotz Records.
Borrowing its name from the novel by Michael Shaara about the Battle of Gettysburg, "The Killer Angels" was recorded by Jonas Kjellgren at Studio Myhrer (which is actually the bed and living room of keyboard player Daniel Myhr), Black Lounge Studio and Peter Tägtgren's The Abyss in Pärlby, Sweden. GHOST's DAVE GROHL-Produced 'If You Have GHOST' Covers EP Due In November
 Swedish occult rockers GHOST will release a covers EP, "If You Have Ghost", on November 19 via Loma Vista Recordings. The five-track EP was recorded and produced by Dave Grohl (FOO FIGHTERS, NIRVANA), and includes cover versions of songs by ROKY ERICKSON, ABBA, ARMY OF LOVERS and DEPECHE MODE, plus a live version of the GHOST offering "Secular Haze", recorded in Brooklyn earlier this year. Outside North America (with the exception of Scandinavia), Spinefarm Records will be the new releasing partner for Loma Vista on all GHOST recordings, including the new EP and previous album. Spinefarm releases are distributed through Caroline/Universal in all territories, including the U.K., where a November 18 date has been confirmed for the release of "If You Have Ghost"; the EP release date in other territories will vary slightly. "If You Have Ghost" will be available on CD, 12-inch vinyl and digitally. Those who pre-order the EP will receive an instant free download of "Secular Haze - Live".

GHOST recently travelled to the U.S. to join AVENGED SEVENFOLD and DEFTONES for the "Hail To The King" tour; these dates — which run until October 26 — mark the band's first proper U.S. outing since their "Haze Over America" trek earlier this year. GHOST also appeared at various music festivals across the U.S. this summer, including Coachella, Lollapalooza and Rock On The Range. In Europe, meanwhile, GHOST will join forces with ALICE IN CHAINS for a run of dates that start in the U.K. on November 9, before heading across to mainland Europe.
"Infestissumam" sold around 14,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 28 on The Billboard 200 chart.
The CD topped the official chart in the group's home country after selling nearly five times as many copies as the No. 2 album, MISS LI's "Wolves".
In a recent interview with ARTISTdirect, a nameless ghoul from GHOST said about "Infestissumam": "It feels way more theatrical and bombastic. In many ways, 'Infestissumam' is thematically a continuation of where [the debut album] 'Opus Eponymous' began. Whereas a lot of the thematic ideas we have in mind for upcoming albums might differ a little bit and will go in another direction. That's not to say we won't sing about the things we do and not have makeup. I'm just saying it will evolve into other things in the future. On this record, I feel like we're doing a lot of things we intended to do on the first naïvely being we could pull off a show like that at that point — which we couldn't. Now, we have a little bit more muscle. The attendance is probably more in accordance with being able to present a show like that."
Regarding the lyrical themes covered "Infestissumam", the nameless ghoul said: "Thematically we knew the major difference between the first and the second albums as much as we do between the second and the third. It's a bit ironic now. Jumping up to the contemporary controversy with our album artwork and the refusal of printers to print the art is funny because the whole record is about the presence of the devil. Obviously, it's about how mankind relate to the presence of the devil. Historically, it's always been the female body that has taken the fall for that, which is what happened in this case. The problem was a vagina in the art not the inverted crosses."
GHOST was forced to modify its name in the U.S. to GHOST B.C. for "legal reasons."

METALLICA Doesn't Feel Responsibility 'To Just Churn Out Records Whenever People Want Them'
 METALLICA's Lars Ulrich has acknowledged in a new interview with U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine that the band's next studio album is unlikely to arrive before 2015 at the earliest. The drummer explained: "Obviously, there are a lot of people asking where the next record is. We're going to make another record, but like I said before, we don't really feel this kind of… what's the word? I guess 'responsibility' is probably the right word. We don't feel this inherent responsibility to just churn out records whenever people want them. [Adopts a sarcastic voice] 'I'm sorry! Let me slap myself on the wrists and go make a record for you!' We'll get 'round to it again."
Asked about a possible release date for METALLICA's next CD, Ulrich replied: "Actually, we know the date… no, we don't! If I was betting on this, I would say 2015 — that's where my money is. So if you think of the actual age of this planet, if it's been 75 billion years since dinosaurs walked the Earth or whatever, then one year is basically a blink of an eye, right?"
Ulrich also spoke about METALLICA's mindset going into the songwriting phase for the band's next album. He explained: "The only thing I can tell you is that there seems to be a consensus in the band that [2008's] 'Death Magnetic' was a really good record that we're proud of, that had good legs on it — meaning that it still sounds really rocking five years later. And I can tell you that with most of the previous METALLICA records, I found any faults, I had any issues with them way, way sooner than five years. So the stuff that we've been jamming on is certainly not a million miles removed from where we left off from 'Death Magnetic'. But two years from now, when I sit and talk to you about the new record, it'll probably be a different story from the six-year-old looking for the ice cream shop."
According to Lars, there is no shortage of ideas for METALLICA's next CD, with the guys having met up twice in the last six months to cook up some tasty riffs in the studio.
"We have more riffs than we know what to do with," Ulrich said. "We talked about setting up a special riff thing, where maybe we could share some of these riffs with others, like an eBay kind of thing for leftover riffs. Some of them are actually quite decent, but we won't be able to use all of them."
METALLICA frontman James Hetfield told The Detroit News that the band will probably not begin working in earnest on a new album until next spring. The singer/guitarist explained: "We want to make a record, that's what we do best and that's what we've gotta do in springtime. We've got skeleton bones that we're starting to lay out to make something out of it, but there's a lot of work ahead of us that we're really excited about doing. And that will be next year."
METALLICA has been touring for the past couple of years, in addition to launching two editions of its Orion Music + More festival and filming its new 3D IMAX movie, "Metallica Through The Never", which opened on September 27.
Meanwhile, Ulrich told a San Francisco radio station last month that the band has something coming up in December that will surprise fans, calling it "another frontier . . . which we're very excited about."

MEGADETH To Honor Country Legend GEORGE JONES
 MEGADETH will take part in remembering a country music legend. The band is among the latest additions to the upcoming tribute concert honoring the late Country Music Hall of Famer George Jones.
MEGADETH will contribute a performance of Jones' song "Wild Irish Rose". MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine admits the song "may be an unexpected choice," given Jones' extensive catalog of hits. But he says the 1998 single is "a perfect example of Jones' way of reaching inside every one of us, and making us aware that we all have pain."
MEGADETH is part of an extensive and primarily country music lineup for the event, dubbed "Playin' Possum! The Final NO Show". Kid Rock and R&B star Sam Moore are also on board for the concert, along with Charlie Daniels, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Reba McEntire, and many, many more.
The sold-out show will take place at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on November 22.

IRON MAIDEN's STEVE HARRIS Drops A Million From Asking Price Of English Country House
 IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris has dropped almost one million pounds from the asking price of his eight-bedroom mansion in Essex.
Harris put his English country house on the market a year ago for £6,750,000 (approximately $10,778,000), but that price has come down by £0.9 million to £5,850,000 (approximately $9,341,000).

The fall shows, dubbed "Evening In Hell", were an all-new production and the band pushed its own envelope once again. "It's a completely different show than we did last time," MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx told Revolver magazine. "It's a different way of doing a rock concert for us. Last time we went in there, we did something really unique and different , so we wanted to do the same thing. We didn't want anyone to see us the second time in Vegas and say it was the same as the first time. It was important for us to change it around."
Regarding the setlist for MÖTLEY CRÜE's Las Vegas shows, Nikki said: "When you're a band that's been around for 30 years, you have a large catalog of music. It's an interesting place to be, because you can go real deep on albums, but in general, when we do that too much, we get complaints from fans that they're not hearing all the hits. So it's a struggle for us in the amount of time you have to play between playing fan favorites, the hits and digging around and playing some new stuff and some stuff we haven't played in a long time. But I think we've struck a good balance."

CODE: New Song 'Becoming Host' Available For Streaming
 U.K.-based avant-garde metal outfit CODE will release its third album, "Augur Nox", on November 19 in Europe and November 26 in North America via Agonia Records.
"Augur Nox" is the first album featuring CODE's new lineup of Aort, Wacian, Syhr, LORDt and Andras. The brand-new material demonstrates the band's fresh personnel in a vivid light, confirming CODE's position as a radiant gem in the extreme metal world. It displays a multifaceted approach: from stunning wide-ranging vocals, otherworldly clean passages, and barbed metallic riffery, all filtered through a refined prism of avant-garde black metal. The album is CODE's most progressive effort to date, yet always captures the band's distinct eerie and arcane vibe.
Featuring ten tracks and 2 interludes over a 55-minute playing time, "Augur Nox" is a bold step forward where acute songwriting and expansive experimentation go hand in hand.
CODE's sound has been both refined and exaggerated at the same time, to produce a melodically dense and ambitious piece of work. The band describes the forthcoming release as their "most dynamic and challenging material to date."

TOMORROW'S OUTLOOK - New Song Sample Featuring PRIMAL FEAR Singer Ralf Scheepers Streaming
 Norwegian metallers TOMORROW'S OUTLOOK have posted another sample from their upcoming album featuring PRIMAL FEAR singer Ralf Scheepers.
The band says: "Please bear in mind this is only rough pre production stuff, and the footage in this video is not from the latest session with Ralf, it's actually from when he tracked the vocals for another song called 'Within The World Of Dreams'. This is why his vocals doesn't match the video. We are very satisfied with the three songs Ralf recorded with us for our upcoming album. We are also extremely happy with the song writing this time and the new and forthcoming album should be a major step from our debut album which was released through the Australian label Battlegod Productions last year."
Tomorrow's Outlook also recently posted some rough footage from the studio off Tom Mallicoat recording vocals for their upcoming album. The vocalist from the acclaimed american heavy metal band LETHAL will be singing lead vocals on track 4 which is called 'A Voice Unheard'.
The band stated: "We are thrilled to work with one of our all-time favourite vocalists for our forthcoming CD. Programmed which was the debut album of Tom's band Lethal is a true masterpiece and definitely among our all-time favourite releases. What is so cool is that Tom is still the amazing singer he was back in the days. He hasn't lost a bit of his voice actually. Still the same power and amazing range. We are working with the best vocalists in the industry, and even if Tom hasn't really recorded anything the last 10 years or so, he can still stand toe to toe with the best. No doubt!"
The upcoming and yet untitled Tomorrow's Outlook CD, which is a concept album, is scheduled for an early 2014 release through the Australian label Battlegod Productions.

New SILENT FORCE Album Due In December
 German guitarist Alex Beyrodt (PRIMAL FEAR) has completed work on the first SILENT FORCE studio album in nearly seven years, Entitled "Rising From Ashes", the follow-up to 2007's "Walk The Earth" will be released on December 13 via AFM Records.
"Walk the Earth" was released in Europe in February 2007 via AFM Records (the CD was issued in the U.S. in May 2008 via Locomotive). The German label has also reissued the band's first two albums — "The Empire of Future" (2000) and "Infatuator" (2001). "The Empire of Future" contained an acoustic version of the song "Saints And Sinners" as a bonus, while "Infatuator" included a bonus live video of the title track.

2011's "ReAniMate: The CoVeRs eP" contained covers of tracks from SKID ROW, LADY GAGA and GUNS N' ROSES. Singer Lzzy Hale told The Pulse Of Radio that recording other artists' songs helps her own writing. "There's just nothing like singing and playing and picking apart an already proven amazing song," she said. "I think it helps you as a songwriter. I'll write a song and be like, 'Well, is that as good as HEART's 'All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You', and I'll have to be like, 'No, back to the drawing board.'"
HALESTORM is currently touring Europe and will be back in North America in November.

MERCYFUL FATE Guitarist's DENNERS TRICKBAG: 'Don't You Let Me Down' Video Released
 "Don't You Let Me Down", the new video from DENNERS TRICKBAG, the band featuring legendary MERCYFUL FATE and KING DIAMOND guitarist Michael Denner, can be seen below. The song comes off DENNERS TRICKBAG's debut album, which was released in September on CD, LP and as a digital download.

TAD MOROSE: 'Millenium Lie' Single Teaser
 After a 10-year hiatus, TAD MOROSE will release its seventh album, "Revenant", on November 20 via Despotz Records. The CD was recorded at Claustrophobic Studio in Gävle, Sweden.
The new TAD MOROSE single, "Millenium Lie", will be released on October 20. A teaser can be streamed below.
"TAD MOROSE is a band that I've followed since my teenage days," said Despotz founder Ömer Akay. "They have their unique sound of melodic power metal and a touch of prog metal.

TAD MOROSE debuted back in 1993 with the album "Leaving The Past Alive" and has since released five LPs and toured all around the world.
TAD MOROSE in August 2008 announced the addition of singer Ronny Hemlin (STEEL ATTACK) and bassist Tommi Karppanen (ex-MORGANA LEFAY) to the group's ranks.

MOTÖRHEAD's LEMMY Downplays His Hospital Stint: 'It Was Nothing; I'm Over It'
 MOTÖRHEAD was forced to cancel a handful of shows on its European festival tour in August after the band's frontman, Lemmy, suffered a haematoma (where blood collects outside of a blood vessel). The news of Lemmy's latest medical issue followed reports that he was also recently diagnosed with diabetes and had a defibrillator fitted because of heart problems.
In the cover feature of the latest edition of U.K.'s Classic Rock magazine, MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee said: "I think after all [Lemmy has] been through, I'd say this: 'Lem, when are you going to get sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? It's time you started to take care of yourself.'"
Lemmy, however, downplayed his heath scare, telling Classic Rock of his hospital stint: "It was nothing; I'm over it."
The 67-year-old added: "I can still stand at that mic every night and play my songs. I'm getting better. By the time the tour comes around I'll be ready."
Lemmy also revealed that if it comes to the point he can no longer hit the road, "We plan to go on. Maybe we'll just make albums. We'll be like THE BEATLES after 1966."
In an interview last year, Lemmy told Billboard MOTÖRHEAD was looking forward to the 40th anniversary of the band's formation in 2015.
"We'll probably all stand in a line and let our heads explode. We'll think of something; we always do — probably involving naked women or something," he quipped.
MOTÖRHEAD's new studio album, "Aftershock", will be released in North America on October 22.

BOSTON To Release New Studio Album Life, Love & Hope In December

IN THIS MOMENT: 'Whore' Lyric Video Released
 Southern California's female-fronted hard rockers IN THIS MOMENT have just released the official lyric video for their latest single, "Whore". Check it out below.
While "Whore" has been getting traction at radio stations across the country, it was more important for the band to create a message that conveys the true intent behind the use of the "whore" word. Singer Maria Brink created the term Women Honoring One Another Rising Eternally to give new meaning away from the derogatory connotation of the "whore" word.
"I am so proud and excited for the world to hear 'Whore'. This is an honest and raw movement that needs to be heard!" exclaims Brink.
"The message behind this song is taking back control. It is about taking the power from a disgusting and degrading word and turning it back around on the accuser. It's about self-empowerment, love, and liberation."
The imagery the band has created around the release of "Whore" is just as provocative as the word itself, yet all goes back to the important message the band has created. Brink explains: "I decided to pose nude for the visual art for 'Whore' to evoke a raw vulnerable emotion. The word 'whore' written down my back, and the dunce cap symbolize me placing myself on the stake for those who are suffering and I can only hope to encourage at least one person to find the self worth and love they deserve to transcend out of a painful situation into a beautiful one. It is about finding our power and taking a stand.
"We are resilient beings and need to realize our incredible strengths.
"I will not bow down to others' perceptions of me; I will only rise in the name of art, love and music."
Adds IN THIS MOMENT guitarist Chris Howorth: "One of the best things about the song 'Whore' is all the feelings and thoughts that the word alone provokes, and that's great, but at the end of the day, it's just a word. The only power it really has is the power that we give it. MICHAEL SCHENKER'S TEMPLE OF ROCK: New Song 'Where The Wild Winds Blow' Available For Streaming
 Classic Rock magazine has premiered "Where The Wild Winds Blow", a brand new song from MICHAEL SCHENKER'S TEMPLE OF ROCK. The track, which can be streamed using the SoundCloud player below, comes off MICHAEL SCHENKER'S TEMPLE OF ROCK's new album, "Bridge The Gap", which will be released on December 2.
MICHAEL SCHENKER'S TEMPLE OF ROCK features legendary German guitarist Michael Schenker alongside vocalist Doogie White, guitarist/keyboardist Wayne Findlay, bassist Francis Buchholz and drummer Herman Rarebell. The CD marks the first time Schenker and fellow ex-SCORPIONS members Buchholz and Rarebell have appeared on the same album since the classic 1979 SCORPIONS LP "Lovedrive".
"Bridge The Gap" is described in a press release as "an album of 13 hard-hitting, adrenalin-fueled melodic rock'n'roll songs that showcase Shenker's distinctive and explosive guitar playing."
Says White: "Michael and I had talked about recording an album after the tour of 2012. We never spoke about it again until January 2013, when he sent me seven ideas he'd been working on.
"I'd never really written with him before, so I didn't know how flexible he would be, writing-wise. So I recorded some vocal tracks as ideas, and when Michael heard them, we were off and running. Within two weeks we were in the studio.”
Adds Schenker: "I wanted to combine the old with the new; that's why the album's called 'Bridge The Gap'. I always have some new, fresh sparks to share when I record a new album. I am inspired from within — it's infinite like a kaleidoscope."
According to Schenker, the album title has an additional meaning. "Everything that's currently going on in this world shows that people are desperate for change," he says. " We need to bridge the gap of poverty. There are too many innocent people getting killed in terrorist attacks. We need to leave all of this chaos behind us. We have to be strong. We have to continue moving forward, working together in a balanced way."

K.K. DOWNING On Leaving JUDAS PRIEST: 'I Just Wasn't Enjoying It Anymore'
 Former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Kenneth "K.K." Downing spoke to Midland Rocks about his shocking April 2011 announcement that he was leaving the band prior to their "Epitaph" world tour.
Downing, who recently started a career as a rock promoter under the banner The Future Of Heavy Metal, says that, contrary to popular belief, he didn't retire from the music business.
"I'll never get away from this retirement thing, but what happened was that I quit," Downing explains. "Retired implies that I am not physically able to do it. I am able to do it, but I didn't want to do it; I just wasn't enjoying it anymore
"A lot of things had changed. I think I counted about thirty reasons why I didn't want to do it at the time, and that is an awful lot of reasons.
"In all honesty, I think that in so many respects it had run its course.
"If you're part of a songwriting team, you get the recognition and reward for creating something, but for me, PRIEST became about going out and playing live and replicating exactly what people had enjoyed ten, twenty or thirty years ago. The fans would be just as happy if they could see us bin all of the modern guitars we now play and take them on a walk down memory lane, because I think that's what people enjoy most. And I understand that, because if I could go out now and see Eric Clapton with CREAM, then I would be the happiest person in the world."
He continues: "One of the beautiful things about being in the industry was the ability to continue to invent and create, constructing songs and making good records. You do feel the need to be creative, and that was taken away with the downloading thing, and as you get older, the balance of the scales starts to tip. So if you can't be creative, why would you want to continue to dedicate the time into something?
"I suppose if the industry was still healthy and people still had to spend their hard-earned money buying a record, it would be different, but if you give something away, then it has no value.
"We used to buy an album and think, 'Well, it's not that good, but I'll play it a million times [and] I'm sure I'll get into it, and now it doesn't really get a second chance.
"In the past, there was always the opportunity to create a record like 'Dark Side Of The Moon' [PINK FLOYD] or 'British Steel' [JUDAS PRIEST] or 'Back In Black' [AC/DC] that would be one of those albums that would be indelible and people will always come back to. And I think that opportunity has gone now, and I think it would take a miracle for one of those to happen again.
"If you consider an album like [JUDAS PRIEST's much-maligned conceptual effort] 'Nostradamus', then if that had been released in 1978, then it would have been another 'Dark Side Of The Moon', but it is all about the timing.
"When you think about it, in the early days, we had the opportunity to write great songs, play great solos and have great vocal performances, but people get used to it and it is hard now to get the reaction of, 'Wow, have you heard the new PRIEST album?'
"The industry has changed so much… I see companies that are repackaging and rehashing, and that started happening to us, and that was not a pretty thing to be a part of. It's kind of duping the fans a bit, because there are fans around the world that have got to have everything to complete their collection, so even if there are only a few thousand of them, if you put out a box collection, it might be $100, which is a lot of dollars, and so for me, that is something that I didn't get into music for."
Downing's place in JUDAS PRIEST was filled by new guitarist Richie Faulkner.
JUDAS PRIEST is currently writing and recording material for a new studio album, to be released sometime next year.

SLAYER Hopes To Include JEFF HANNEMAN-Penned Material On Next Album
 Earlier today (Monday, October 7), SLAYER bassist/vocalist Tom Araya spoke to Loudwire about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band's next studio album — the group's first since the passing of guitarist Jeff Hanneman this past May.
"We have two songs," said Araya.
He added: "I haven't had the privilege of going through [Jeff's] audio files at the moment, but that's something I plan to do. Once we get some business squared away, that's something I plan to do; to go through his music and see what he has.
"I know that he had several ideas together that he had presented to us in the course of the past year. Before he passed away, there was one complete song that he had managed to send to everybody that I listened to and that I thought was really, really good and communicated that to him. There's stuff that I thought would be great to listen to just to see what's there and how we can possibly use what he had done. That's something I have every intension of doing."
Araya offered more information about the material that Jeff left behind that may end up on the next SLAYER record.
"One song was a song we didn't finish for [2009's] 'World Painted Blood'," he said. "That song is actually complete. Me and Jeff were working on melody and lyric ideas for that song. We weren't really happy with what we were doing or what was becoming of that song, so it didn't make it on the album. It was just something we were working on and we couldn't find anything we were happy with that would work well lyrically and melody-wise, so that's one reason why that one didn't make it on the album, but that song is complete, it's done, it's ready to go."
He continued: "I don't want to use the term 'typical' [laughs] but it's Jeff, it's obvious who put the song together. It's Jeff music. He created a certain way and he put music together a certain way; it's signature Jeff. It's new, it doesn't sound like anything else that we've done, in my opinion. Jeff usually just wrote songs and a lot of his stuff had certain signature things he would do to songs. That stuff is in there, but I would consider it new."
It is not presently clear if EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt — who has been filling in for Hanneman on tour since January 2011 — will be featured on SLAYER's next album.
SLAYER's 25-date fall 2013 North American tour kicks off on October 22 in Anchorage, Alaska. GOJIRA and 4ARM will provide support on all dates.
It was announced on May 30 by Araya and SLAYER guitarist Kerry King that Paul Bostaph would be behind the drum kit for the remainder of the band's 2013 international tour. Bostaph was SLAYER's drummer from 1992 until 2001 and recorded four albums with the band — the gold-certified "Divine Intervention" (1994), the 1996 punk covers album "Undisputed Attitude", "Diabolus In Musica" (1998), "God Hates Us All" (2001) that received a Grammy nomination for "Best Metal Performance", as well as the DVD "War At The Warfield" (2001), also certified gold. In addition to SLAYER, Bostaph has been a member of FORBIDDEN, EXODUS, SYSTEMATIC and TESTAMENT.
Original SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo sat out the band's Australian tour in February/March due to a contract dispute with the other members of the group. Filling in for him was Jon Dette (TESTAMENT, ANTHRAX).

XANDRIA Begins Recording New Album
 German female-fronted symphonic metallers XANDRIA have entered the studio to begin recording their sixth album for an early 2014 release via Napalm Records. The follow-up to 2012's "Neverworld's End" is being helmed by Joost Van Den Broek (AFTER FOREVER, STAR ONE, REVAMP) and Sascha Paeth (EDGUY, EPICA, AVANTASIA), alongside the band's main composer Marco Heubaum.
XANDRIA in February recruited Steven Wussow (DOMAIN, SHYLOCK, ILLECTRONIC ROCK) as the band's new bassist.
"Neverworld's End" was released in North America on March 6, 2012 via Napalm Records.
XANDRIA in December 2010 announced the addition of singer Manuela Kraller to the group's ranks.
