TESSERACT: 'Nocturne' Video Released
"Nocturne", the new video form U.K. progressive rockers TESSERACT, can be seen below. The clip was directed by Ben Thornley of Sitcom Soldiers.
Comments TESSERACT: "As we haven't taken part in our promo videos for a while, we felt now was the time to make an appearance. But we also wanted to create a journey with the video that was similar to the journey portrayed by the music. A pretty straightforward step from the night, what it hides and the fear it generates, into the reassurance and safety of the dawn.
"We have always really liked the idea of creating silhouettes (we tried to something similar with our first video, 'Deception'), so we decided upon using back lights for the majority of the video, which is then reversed when the feeling of the music changes towards the end of the track.
"We feel the guys at Sitcom Soldiers have really captured the mood of the song, and also produced a video that draws you in."
Adds Thornley: "Working with TESSERACT for us was about capturing something which did a great song justice with a memorable performance, whilst providing an equally provocative atmospheric narrative. The band naturally looked great and the creative process went very smoothly and shows in the final video."
TESSERACT is currently touring the U.S. with KATATONIA, CULT OF LUNA and INTRONAUT, and will then immediately venture off on a headlining run with SCALE THE SUMMIT. Next up are Mexico, the U.K. (with KARNIVOOL) as well as a trip to India.
TESSERACT will kick off 2014 on the road with in Europe with THE SAFETY FIRE, PROTEST THE HERO and INTERVALS before taking part in the Soundwave Festival in Australia. | 0

TRIVIUM: New Song 'No Way To Heal' Available For Streaming
"No Way To Heal", a brand new song from Florida metallers TRIVIUM, can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below. The track comes off the band's new album, "Vengeance Falls", which will be released on October 15 via Roadrunner Records. Produced by David Draiman (DISTURBED, DEVICE), the follow-up to 2011's "In Waves" is available for pre-order at Trivium.org. The first single, "Strife", is available as an instant download with all pre-orders.
In a recent interview with ARTISTdirect, TRIVIUM guitarist/vocalist Matt Heafy stated about "Vengeance Falls": "Going into this record, the initial goal was to write the absolute best songs we possibly could. We didn't go into it thinking, 'We need to be technical, we need to be brutal," or anything like that. It was about making the best possible music. Looking at it in retrospect, I feel it does encompass TRIVIUM fans have loved over the years through our first five records. Then, it expands upon those tools with the new music. It's a great summary of everything we've done, taking the listener to another place at the same time. I think it's really awesome it does. Maybe 'Ascendancy' and 'Ember To Inferno' were similar, but 'The Crusade' was the exact opposite. 'Shogun' was technical. 'In Waves' was simple. This one has everything, which I really appreciate."
Asked what Draiman brought out of him, Heafy said: "We've never had a producer who was also a singer in a touring metal band before. That was a huge thing for us.
"Lyrics were a huge thing for me. I've had producers before who would say, 'Oh, this doesn't rhyme.' Never before have I had a producer say, 'What does this song mean to you?' I remember the very first time he asked that, I said, 'Well, I leave every song up to the interpretation of the listener.' He was like, 'No, but what does it mean to you?' That was great, because, if from there I didn't have a direct answer, he'd be like, 'Maybe you should think about rewriting some of these parts.'
"I've never been more proud of lyrics than I am on this record. We delved into these lyrics more than ever before to figure out what I'm trying to say.
"The vocal coaching was huge for me too. I've had vocal coaching from a couple of different teachers, but it didn't make sense to me coming from someone who wasn't in a band and didn't know how to translate it into metal. When it came from David, whether it was proper standing, breath technique, or other etiquette, it worked.
"Taking care of my voice is something I learned from David in 2011 on the Australian tour with DISTURBED. He told me about cut-off times, when to stop eating or when to stop laying down when you're playing a show. I carried those things to this day, as well as breath control and proper technique, like where to push from and where not to push from. Those are things people can see I'm using every day on our shows."
"Vengeance Falls" track listing:
01. Brave This Storm02. Vengeance Falls03. Strife04. No Way To Heal05. To Believe06. At The End Of This War07. Through Blood And Dirt And Bone08. Villainy Thrives09. Incineration: The Broken World10. Wake (The End Is Nigh)
TRIVIUM's "Strife" video was filmed in July at Studio One in Orlando and was directed by Ramon Boutviseth, who has previously worked with NONPOINT, DARKEST HOUR, INCUBUS and ALL THAT REMAINS, among others.
TRIVIUM is currently touring North America with DEVILDRIVER and AFTER THE BURIAL.

DENIED: 'Judas Kiss' Video Released
"Judas Kiss", the new Paolo Carboni-directed video from DENIED, the Swedish metal band featuring vocalist Johan Fahlberg (JADED HEART) and bassist Fredrik Isaksson (formerly of THERION and GRAVE), can be seen below. The song comes off the group's third album, "Let Them Burn", which was released in January via Sliptrick Records. The CD was recorded with producer Fredrik Folkare (UNLEASHED) and was mastered at Dugout Productions. The artwork was created by Alexander Lifbom.
DENIED was formed in Upplands Väsby, Stockholm, Sweden in 2003 by Andreas Carlsson. Devoted to heavy-yet-melodic metal, he wanted to expand his vision beyond a simple dream. The band recorded its first album, "Seven Times Your Sin", in 2005 and supported it with local gigs.
In September 2005, DENIED underwent its first lineup change when bassist Robert Stellmar and drummer Pete Dolls were recruited. The group's second album, "New Army For The Old Revolution", saw the light of day in late 2008.
In 2009, DENIED enlisted longtime friend Fahlberg as their new vocalist and in November of that same year, guitarist Chris Vowden joined the group. In May 2011 the band parted ways with Stellmar and recruited Isaksson.
DENIED has "earned a reputation as a great live act from their performances in various rock clubs in the Stockholm area," according to a press release." Through the years, DENIED has supported such acts as DREAM EVIL, SISTER SIN and ENTOMBED. Their ability to work the crowd and drive them into a frenzy has become a trademark for DENIED."

LIV KRISTINE To Guest On New PRIMAL FEAR Album
Norwegian singer Liv Kristine Espenaes Krull (LEAVES' EYES, ex-THEATRE OF TRAGEDY) has recorded a guest appearance on the song "Born With A Broken Heart" from the upcoming album from German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR. The CD was mixed with Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, PRETTY MAIDS, DESTRUCTION) at his Hansen studio in Ribe, Denmark for a January 2014 release via Frontiers Records. 12 tracks were recorded during the new album sessions, including "two epic songs, one guitar ballad, and nine crushing metal songs with all the trademarks you know and love to hear from PRIMAL FEAR," according to the band. The effort was engineered by Achim Köhler (EDGUY, MASTERPLAN) and was produced by PRIMAL FEAR bassist Mat Sinner.
In a recent interview with Jump Metal, PRIMAL FEAR vocalist Ralf Scheepers stated about the musical direction of the band's upcoming album: "It's not so far away [from what we've done in the past], because we have our style, you know. It was hard for us to imagine… because [2012's] 'Unbreakable' was a pretty tough... and really, in our ears, pretty great album, and for us, it was somehow hard to top it. But as soon as we started to write the new songs, and as soon as I heard what Mat and Magnus [Karlsson, guitar] did in the first place — because then they sent me some stuff and I added my ideas on it — I just thought, 'Wow, this is amazing.' And in the end, it really turned out to be a better album than 'Unbreakable'."
Frontiers and PRIMAL FEAR in January announced that they have renewed their partnership for another multi-album deal, which will include two more studio releases and one live CD and DVD. PRIMAL FEAR's latest album, "Unbreakable", sold around 600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 44 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

CREMATORY: 'Shadowmaker' Single, 'Inception' Box Set Cover Artwork Unveiled
Southern German gothic metallers CREMATORY have inked a deal with Steamhammer/SPV. The band's new album, "Antiserum", will be released on February 25, 2014 (one day earlier internationally).
The first single from "Antiserum", a song called "Shadowmaker", will be made available on November 22. CREMATORY drummer Markus Jüllich says: "Even before the whole record was finalized, we knew that 'Shadowmaker' had absolute hit potential. You'd be hard put to announce our new album better than with this song."
On the day of the single launch, a special box set, "Inception", featuring CREMATORY's first ten studio albums in a cardboard sleeve will be made available. It is described in a press release as "an absolute must-have for all fans and collectors."
"Our fans can look forward to 'Antiserum', on which we have gone one step further than we did on our comeback album, 'Revolution', in terms of our electronic influences," says Jüllich. In collaboration with Elmar Schmidt of Hamburg EBM act CENTHRON, we have come up with a haunting mix of metal riffs and EBM keyboards. That's why I'd refer to 'Antiserum''s musical direction as 'EBM metal.'"

New AMBERIAN DAWN Studio Album Is Ready To Be Recorded
Finnish female-fronted symphonic metallers AMBERIAN DAWN have issued the following update:
"We have some great news from AMBERIAN DAWN's headquarters here in Finland.
"Many of you are waiting for a new AMBERIAN DAWN studio album. Tuomas [Seppälä; keyboards, guitar] has already penned 10 new awesome songs and those are ready to be recorded in fall 2013. We're doing this without financial support of record labels and now you can help us make it happen. This album is planned to come out in early 2014.
"We want to do this together with you and we will offer you some very special extras. We have the 'traditional' merch things like MP3's and signed CDs but also our own personal stuff: band gear, instruments, stage clothes etc. You could also have your name written on the booklet of this CD. All pledges are included with MP3 download package. Shipping fee is always included on prices.
"We have so far toured three times in Europe and have enjoyed every minute. We want to do it again. If we'll get 200% of our initial goal raised, we can manage to arrange a tour too. This tour could be arranged in 2014.
"Now you can be part of AMBERIAN DAWN family and help us making this new album and tour again."
AMBERIAN DAWN released a compilation album of songs that originally appeared on their first four albums — "Circus Black" (2012), "End Of Eden" (2010), "The Clouds Of Northland Thunder" (2009) and "River Of Tuoni" (2008) — to showcase new singer Päivi "Capri" Virkkunen after the departure of Heidi Parviainen. "Re-Evolution" was made available on June 14 in Finland, distributed by Suomen Musiikki.
"Re-Evolution" was mixed by Mikko Mustonen and mastered by Henkka Niemisto at Chartmakers.
A music video for the song "Kokko - Eagle Of Fire" can be seen below. The clip was produced by Routafilmi, which is the same company that made the AMBERIAN DAWN's "Arctica" video.
AMBERIAN DAWN parted ways with vocalist Heidi Parviainen in November 2012. Her final appearance with the band was at the Metal Female Voices Fest at the end of October 2012 in Belgium. | 0

METALLICA To Cross 'Another Frontier' In December, Promises LARS ULRICH
METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich was interviewed this past week by Nikki Blakk of the San Francisco, California radio station 107.7 The Bone about the band's new 3D IMAX movie, "Metallica Through The Never". You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.
Asked if there are any other surprises METALLICA has in store for its fans, Ulrich said: "There's a very interesting thing coming our way in December. Nobody knows that, so… There's another frontier heading in METALLICA's direction in December. Which, if anybody [working for the band's management] even knew that I just said what I just said, they would hunt me down and silence me. But there is another frontier coming in December, which we're very excited about."
Lars was also asked if there are already plans underway for METALLICA to stage the third installment of its Orion Music + More festival in Detroit, Michigan next year.
"We haven't gotten that far the last couple of months," Lars said.
"Detroit was a great experience. We'd love to bring this thing back to Detroit. We've gotta sit down and look at the practical parts of it. And our good friends at [promoters] C3 [Presents] have gotta sit down and probably get their calculators out and all that stuff that we try to stay out of…
It's great to do [Orion], we love doing it. I'd do Orion for the rest of our lives, if possible.
"It's not an easy thing to launch a festival, but we've had a lot of fun the last two years doing it, and we hope to bring it back to Detroit.
"We've gotta run around the world for the next six weeks and hear ourselves talk about this movie and all that stuff, but probably on the other side of that, in October or November, we'll start looking at the realities of Orion next year and then take it from there."
Spokesperson Charlie Walker of promoter C3 Presents said a few months ago that around 20,000 attended the first day of this year's Orion Music + More, with possibly more showing up on the second day.
A total of 37 groups, including the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, DEFTONES, SILVERSUN PICKUPS, RISE AGAINST and BASSNECTAR, performed on Orion's five stages.

Original GREAT WHITE Bassist LORNE BLACK Dies
Original GREAT WHITE bassist Lorne Black has died. He appeared on the band's 1984 self-titled debut, 1986's "Shot In The Dark" and 1987's "Once Bitten…".
Original GREAT WHITE singer Jack Russell, who is currently touring with a version of the band calling itself JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE, has posted the following statement: "It is with great sadness that we have been informed of the passing of Lorne Black yesterday [Friday, September 27]! Our hearts go out to his family, friends and fans.
"Lorne was a huge part of the first incarnation of GREAT WHITE! May he rest in peace."
Added GREAT WHITE guitarist Mark Kendall: "I saw [Lorne's] cousin Robert a few months ago and we were in touch. Robert told me Lorne wasn't too good then.
"I lost Robert's number when I changed phones, which bums me out. He used to work for us.
"I loved Lorne and I am truly sad to get this news. I know he has battle demons for along time and I am so sad to hear of his passing.
"RIP, my friend..."
Lorne Black can be seen standing on the left in the photo below.

THE CULT: Limited-Edition 'Death From Below' Surfboard Available
To coincide with THE CULT's "Electric 13" world tour, the band has created an iconic limited-edition surfboard.
"[The 1979 American epic war film] 'Apocalypse Now' was a huge influence on the 'Electric' album," says THE CULT singer Ian Astbury. "Many of the songs such as 'Love Removal Machine' and 'Peace Dog' feature 'Apocalypse Now' influences.
"After seeing 'Apocalypse Now', I became fascinated with the subcultures that existed during the Vietnam War, especially the scenes that focused on Lieutenant Colonel Kilgore's (Robert Duvall) love of surfing and his iconic surfboard.
"Surfer culture during the Vietnam War has always been a great muse to me. The idea of a culture so free and expressive in the violent and oppressive environment of a war zone is such a great symbol of man's desire to master his environment and coexist with nature. The board had become an object of desire. I always wanted to own one. So we created the Death From Below / Surf Cult version."
"Death From Below" was conceived and designed by Ian Astbury and Sonya Koshuta, with board shaper Bob Davis (Carrozza Surf Boards).

AMARANTHE Singer's NIGHTWISH Audition Tape Posted Online
Elize Ryd of Swedish metallers AMARANTHE has uploaded an audio recording of her singing the NIGHTWISH song "Nemo". Ryd laid down the vocals for the track in 2006 when the Finnish symphonic metal band was seeking a replacement for Tarja Turunen. Check it out below.
Says Ryd: "I've been saving this for a special moment. And now when I became a singer as I was dreaming of… and been travelling all over the world and met fantastic people and also NIGHTWISH on stage. And have such wonderful fans.
"It is a amazing memory from the day when NIGHTWISH sent me a demo with music and ask me to put my voice on it!! So here it is. 'Nemo' from the NIGHTWISH audition 2006!!"
Ryd, who has been touring the world as a backing singer vocalist for KAMELOT, filled in for then-NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon for a show in Denver, Colorado in September 2012 because Olzon was suffering from fever and vomiting and was forced to spend the night at a local hospital.
In a recent interview, Ryd stated about the Denver gig: "It was a very special thing.
"I love NIGHTWISH and I've sung their songs many times for myself. [laughs]
"They asked me if I would be willing to sing for them that night, and we decided that if the audience agreed it was okay for them that I sing, of course I was going to help NIGHTWISH out so they could do the show. At least with some singing so they wouldn't have to do it all instrumental."
She added: "It was a little bit like a dream come true for me because I always wanted to sing for NIGHTWISH. [laughs] I did audition for them years ago, so to actually be on stage with them was great. And the response from the crowd really helped. I was almost crying on stage because the people were so supportive."
