EPICA: New Studio Album Due Next Spring
Dutch female-fronted symphonic metallers EPICA have released the following message:
"Our show at Graspop [Metal Meeting in Dessel, Delgium] on the 30th of June marked the end of the 'Requiem For The Indifferent' touring cycle.
"We would like to thank all our loyal fans who have, once again, carried EPICA to the next level.
"Our world tour promoting 'Requiem For The Indifferent' has given us a ton of wonderful new memories. We played a lot of new places like Australia, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Belarus and Dubai and welcomed new fans at every one of the 100+ shows of this world tour. A new milestone for us was reached during 'Retrospect', the celebration of our 10th anniversary! We will never forget being on stage with this huge orchestra and choir in front of the 4500 fans from all over the world.
"As you know, we will take a step back from playing live shows for the upcoming months since [EPICA singer] Simone [Simons] and [her boyfriend] Oliver and [EPICA keyboardist] Coen [Janssen] and [his wife] Linda are expecting children.
"During this period, we will be finalizing our live CD, Blu-ray/DVD 'Retrospect', which will be released in the autumn of this year. Besides that, we are in the pre-production phase of the sixth EPICA studio album which we will start to record at the end of this summer and which will be released in spring 2014.
"We can't wait to share the 'Retrospect' show and our new music with you all and we hope to see you on the road in 2014!!"
EPICA's fifth full-length album, "Requiem For The Indifferent", sold 4,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 104 on The Billboard 200 chart.
"Requiem For The Indifferent" was released on March 9, 2012 in Europe and four days later in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Gate Studio in Wolfsburg, Germany under the watchful eye of Sascha Paeth.

SEPULTURA Completes Recording New Album
Brazilian/American thrashers SEPULTURA have completed recording their new album for a tentative October release via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was tracked over a 40-day period at producer Ross Robinson's (KORN, LIMP BIZKIT, SLIPKNOT) studio in Venice, California and will be mixed and mastered by co-producer Steve Evetts, who previously worked with SEPULTURA on the "Nation" (2001), "Revolusongs" (2002) and "Roorback" (2003) albums, in addition to having collaborated with Ross on a number of other projects in the past.
The follow-up to 2011's "Kairos" will contain nine songs, including "The Age Of The Atheist", "Tsunami", "The Vatican" and "Trauma Of War", and two bonus tracks (covers of DEATH's "Zombie Ritual" and a track from the Brazilian group CHICO SCIENCE E NAÇÃO ZUMBI). The CD will also feature a guest appearance by former SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo.
SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser recently stated about the upcoming CD: "I think this album is one of the heaviest albums we ever did. We want to bring the SEPULTURA live attitude to the studio and with Ross we achieved that more than any other album, it sounds very alive, the performances are at their best. But we have one specific song that is more dramatic, clean but heavy and dark. The song is called 'Grief', which had the nickname 'Balada'. It is a song that starts with clean guitars in a way that we never attempted before, I think it was our biggest challenge on this album, regarding all the instruments and it came out amazing."
Regarding the contributions of SEPULTURA's new drummer, Eloy Casagrande, to the new album recording sessions, Kisser said: "Eloy is one of the great drummers of the world. It's amazing to see him playing with such energy and power. He brought a new level of energy and possibilities to our music. I wrote crazy riffs on the guitar that was no problem for him to work something even crazier on drums. Heavy parts with lots of double bass and fast drum fills. We wrote one of the best SEPULTURA albums together. You all will hear this monster behind the drumsticks. He killed on the recording sessions and it will be awesome to perform these songs live on stage."
SEPULTURA's upcoming CD will mark the first time the band will have recorded an album outside Brazil since "Against".
The reunion between SEPULTURA and Robinson was first suggested by Monte Conner, the former Roadrunner Records A&R chief who is now the head of Nuclear Blast Entertainment, a U.S. partnership with Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger.
Robinson produced SEPULTURA's classic "Roots" album in 1995. Released in February 1996 by Roadrunner, it was the band's last studio album to feature founding member and vocalist Max Cavalera.
"Roots" sold more than 2 million copies worldwide and was certified gold in the United States by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA) for sales in excess of 500,000 units.
SEPULTURA has spent most of the past two years on tour in support of its 12th studio album, and Nuclear Blast Records debut, "Kairos", which hit stores in July 2011.

METALLICA: 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' Pro-Shot Performance Clip From 'Orion Music + More'
Official MetOnTour video footage of METALLICA performing the song "For Whom The Bell Tolls" at the band's sophomore Orion Music + More festival, which took place June 8-9 in Detroit, Michigan, can be seen below.
According to The Pulse Of Radio, METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo said on the ground at the festival that he was eager to bring the show back to Detroit in 2014. "We've got to come back here, you know," he said. "This is a great place. This city needs it. The weekend has been a blast and I can't wait 'til next year. I've already got ideas for next year, so we're looking forward to it."
As previously reported, METALLICA played a surprise set on June 8 under the name DEHAAN, playing their entire 1983 debut disc "Kill 'Em All" from front to back.
The band's headlining set the following night, which closed out the festival, featured rarities like "Carpe Diem, Baby", "I Disappear" and "Disposable Heroes" alongside the band's more traditional hits and live favorites.
The members of METALLICA were also spotted hanging out at their personal lifestyle exhibits, with James Hetfield seen at his custom car display, Trujillo overseeing the skateboarding at the Vans Vert Ramp, and drummer Lars Ulrich premiering a clip from the upcoming movie "Metallica Through The Never" alongside director Nimród Antal.
The Metallica Museum displayed the bass that Cliff Burton played at his final concert before his 1986 death in a Swedish bus crash, as well as other instruments, stage props and vintage concert flyers.
Robert Trujillo played two other sets during the course of the weekend, first with a reunion of funk-rockers INFECTIOUS GROOVES and then with his own TRUJILLO TRIO.
Spokesperson Charlie Walker of promoter C3 Presents said that around 20,000 attended the first day, with possibly more showing up on Sunday. As for whether Orion will return to Detroit next year, he replied, "We'll go through this one, wrap it up, see what the feedback is . . . Then we'll sit down and try to get a grip on what to do next."
A total of 37 groups, including the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, DEFTONES, SILVERSUN PICKUPS, RISE AGAINST and BASSNECTAR, performed on Orion's five stages.
THE JOY FORMIDABLE was unable to perform their show after arriving late in Detroit due to travel issues.
James Hetfield personally introduced the SILVERSUN PICKUPS and watched their set from the side of the stage.
Cliff Burton's father Ray was in attendance for METALLICA's surprise "Kill 'Em All" performance on Saturday.
Detroit native Bob Seger was rumored to be showing up to sing his classic "Turn The Page" with METALLICA. Although the band played the song, Seger was a no-show. | 0

For The Ladies: GHOST Bikini Set Can Now Be Yours
Swedish occult rockers GHOST, who are fronted by Papa Emeritus II, have made their branded bikini for the ladies available for pre-order via their official merchandise store.
A photo of the set, which is priced at $39.99, can be seen below.
GHOST made headlines in April when it announced it had begun selling dildos and butt plugs via the band's webstore.
GHOST's sophomore album, "Infestissumam", sold around 14,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 28 on The Billboard 200 chart.
The CD topped the official chart in the group's home country after selling nearly five times as many copies as the No. 2 album, MISS LI's "Wolves".
GHOST was forced to modify its name in the U.S. to GHOST B.C. for "legal reasons."
Hailing from Linköping, Sweden, GHOST formed in in 2008. They released their heralded debut album, "Opus Eponymous", in 2010. In 2011, GHOST performed at the annual Download festival in the United Kingdom. The band's fanbase began to swell and not long after added some of hard rock's finest to this group. Additionally that year, GHOST took part in the "Defenders Of Faith III" tour with TRIVIUM, IN FLAMES and RISE TO REMAIN. In early 2012, they embarked on their first tour of the United States and later that year shared the stage with MASTODON and OPETH on their "Heritage Hunter Tour" in North America. That summer the band was invited by METALLICA's James Hetfield to perform on the main stage of METALLICA's first annual Orion Music + More festival.

SEBASTIAN BACH: 'I Want To Keep Making Music Until I'm Not Able To Anymore'
Aniruddh "Andrew" Bansal of Metal Assault recently conducted an interview with former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Metal Assault: Your new solo DVD+CD, "ABachalypse Now", came out recently. It has three shows from last year, the Graspop and Hellfest festivals, and the show at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. While doing those shows, did you know that they were going to be released on the DVD?
Bach: No, except for the Nokia show. The other two we did not plan on releasing, or even filming them. But the record company asked me if I wanted to do a DVD, so I went through all of the footage. Those festivals were filmed by the people running the festival themselves, so they were available.
Metal Assault: At that Graspop show you played, you shared the stage with bands like GUNS N' ROSES, MOTÖRHEAD, MACHINE HEAD, EUROPE and all that. That's a pretty killer lineup. What was that experience like?
Bach: Well, it was the earliest set time I was ever brought on stage at. There was a torrential downpour and I was forced to stand in a puddle of water and scream. I didn't know if I was going to get electrocuted [laughs] because I was standing there with all these wires, microphones and electrical equipment. So it was kind of crazy. It ended up being a really good show, though, and I loved playing it because it was very early in the morning. It was like going to war. [laughs] It's kind of interesting to watch.
Metal Assault: Coming back to this live album, I think it sounds really good, but in your opinion does it retain all the qualities of the live sound that you have on stage?
Bach: The sound on the DVD is such that you'll want to listen to it in ten years' time, and I'm not just trying to put out a YouTube clip, you know. My idea of a great live album is something you could watch or listen to for life. So while retaining the "live" feel, we polished up the audio from the Hellfest and Nokia shows. But we were not able to polish up Graspop at all, so it's a totally live concert. Having said that, we made every effort to make sure it sounds as good as it possibly could.
Metal Assault: I've seen you play songs like "Youth Gone Wild" at every single show of yours, and you've put in the same amount of energy every time which I find amazing. How are you able to enjoy playing a song like that, even after playing it all your life?
Bach: I just love music, it makes me feel good and there's nothing like it in this world. So I've always really been into it. I want to keep making music until I'm not able to anymore. When you talk about the energy I put into running around on stage, I might run around a little less as the years go on, and sing standing still a little more. [laughs] But I don't know if that'll even happen, because when I get up there, the music takes me over and I just explode with energy. So it's hard to control.
Metal Assault: If you do end up running around less, do you think that would affect your singing?
Bach: Yeah, I'm sure it will. When I watch the Graspop show, for example, I was just standing there because it's just so rainy. But it's fascinating for me because I like the way I sing in that show. So I learned a lot making this DVD. I learned that I should stand still a little more. [laughs]

SLIPKNOT: High-Quality, Pro-Shot Footage Of Last Month's DOWNLOAD Performance
High-quality, professionally filmed video footage of SLIPKNOT's June 14 performance at this year's edition of the Download festival at Donington Park, Castle Donington, England can be seen below.
For a long time, SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor seemed the most hesitant to get back into the studio and make a new album following the 2010 death of bassist Paul Gray. But with three years having passed since Gray's death, and with Taylor making three albums with STONE SOUR since then, the singer told The Pulse Of Radio that he thinks 2014 will finally be the year of the KNOT. "I know everybody is pretty keen on getting together and seeing what happens next year, so I mean, if it takes us a year to write an album, so be it," he said. "The main goal is to just get us in the room and just see what happens, you know. If we can get past that first day, I think it'll come together. Now that we're all kind of in better places in our lives and whatnot, it's making it a little easier to be excited about it again. It's just starting to feel like it's time."
SLIPKNOT has performed live over the past two years but has not recorded a new album since 2008's "All Hope Is Gone".
SLIPKNOT mastermind/percussionist M. Shawn "Clown" Crahan spoke with Kerrang! magazine about the band's continued delay in recording a new studio CD. The SLIPKNOT co-founder explained: "We haven't written an album in five years because we wrote one, we toured it for two years, and Paul died, and it's been three years. What do you want from me? Nothing. When I come back, when we come back, it will be time, you will understand, we will understand, and it will be right. We'll be the first band that could be off for five years and come back like we never were gone. So that's what it's all about."

CARCASS: 'Surgical Steel' Cover Artwork Unveiled
The cover artwork for "Surgical Steel", the comeback album from reactivated British extreme metal pioneers CARCASS, can be seen below.
"We went back to working with Ian Tilton, who is an iconic English photographer famous for working with THE STONE ROSES," stated CARCASS bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker. "He actually did the front cover for [1991's] 'Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious' as well. We've deliberately tried to evoke the feeling of that album and [1993's] 'Heartwork'."
"Surgical Steel" will be released on September 16 in the U.K., September 13 in the rest of Europe and September 17 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. The effort was produced by Colin Richardson (FEAR FACTORY, MACHINE HEAD, NAPALM DEATH, SLIPKNOT, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE) and mixed by Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ACCEPT, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY).
Joining guitarist Bill Steer and bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker in CARCASS' current incarnation are new drummer Dan Wilding (ABORTED, TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED) and guitarist Ben Ash (PIG IRON, DESOLATION, LIQUEFIED SKELETON).
CARCASS' first studio LP since 1996's "Swansong" will feature guest vocals from original sticksman Ken Owen.
In a recent interview with Chile's Radio Futuro, Walker stated about the new CARCASS CD: "We think we've made a good album, so it's gonna be very interesting when people get to hear the record. We can't wait to see what people think."
He continued: "It sounds like CARCASS. Even the drumming sounds like CARCASS. Everything about it… I think it's gonna shock people, how good it is. I think it's got all the elements that people like, yet it still sounds fresh. So that's all I can say, really, 'cause we don't really sound like any other band, and the fact that after 17 years, we wrote music and it still sounds like CARCASS, I think it's good."
In a separate interview with Terrorizer magazine, Steer spoke about how the decision to record a new CARCASS studio album came about.
"I found myself playing riffs that sounded like CARCASS," he said. "This was after the band had finished the whole reunion cycle of shows and festivals. So, officially, I would have been playing with other bands and stuff, but for some reason whenever I picked up a guitar at home I was coming up with riffs that sounded like CARCASS. I got on the phone to Jeff and said, 'We could have a crack at writing a couple of tunes and seeing if they're strong enough and take it from there.' We also agreed if it didn't sound like carcass or have that kind of vibe to it, we would just drop it. So that was the thing, we got together and started working on some stuff and just immediately got the excitement back very quickly."
He added: "It definitely sounds like CARCASS. I think we just generally by accident captured the flavor of past music that we have done and you can't help but push it forward. We have really been creative and when you are looking at things like guitar harmonies, it's way more adventurous on this record. It's not just parallel harmony like we did in the past, things branch off in different directions.
"A lot of what is happening now is based on rhythms rather than actual riffs. We were discussing this a lot during record sessions about how the riff is almost dying or dead already. People spend a lot of time chugging on the bottom string [but] that's a rhythm, it's not a riff. We can't write a song, never mind an album, without it being chock-full of riffs."
Stated Walker: "I'd like to feel like we are giving CARCASS fans what they want again. I'm a realist and I think Bill has realized and Dan know what people like about CARCASS. We're definitely delivering."
While the final track listing has yet to be confirmed, the following songs were recorded during the sessions:
* The Master Butcher's Apron
* The Granulating Dark Satanic Mills
* A Congealed Clot Of Blood
* A Wraith In The Apparatus
* 316l Grade Surgical Steel
* Cadaver Pouch Conveyor System
* Captive Bolt Pistol
* Intensive Battery Brooding
* None Compliance To Astm F899-12 Standard
* Mount Of Execution
* 1985/Thrasher's Abattoir
* Unfit For Human Consumption
* Zochrot
* Livestock Marketplace
Regarding the sound of the forthcoming CARCASS album, Walker previously stated: "We've taken stylistic cues from all the albums because it's in our blood, but it's no rehash or mess of ideas. I think it sounds almost like the missing link between the third and forth albums but with some groove in there. I've jokingly christened some parts 'trad blast' and some 'death sleaze'… don't think for a minute this is just some nostalgic throwback album — we're setting up another 17 years of ideas for other bands to copy and clean up on. [laughs]"
Asked if this means we'll be hearing some death metal vocals out of Bill for the first time since "Necroticism", Walker told Decibel, "Yes, already in the can. It's more along the lines of how I envisioned him backing me up on 'Heartwork'. That said, my own vocals have a hell of a lot more range than they did in the past solely down to the luxury of having time to record them — I did all the vocals for 'Heartwork' in two days and it shows!"
Guitarist Michael Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson, who had been touring with CARCASS since the band's reunion was announced in 2007, are no longer involved with the group due to scheduling conflicts with their main band, ARCH ENEMY.
CARCASS will support AMON AMARTH on their upcoming European tour.

Video: Reactivated CEREMONIAL OATH Performs At France's HELLFEST
Fan-filmed video footage of the reactivated CEREMONIAL OATH — Sweden's pioneers of twisted melodic death metal — performing the song "Ceremonial Oath" on June 21 at Hellfest in Clisson, France can be seen below.
CEREMONIAL OATH is:
Oscar Dronjak (HAMMERFALL): Guitar, vocals
Anders Iwers (TIAMAT): Guitar
Jesper Strömblad (IN FLAMES, DIMENSION ZERO): Bass
Markus Nordberg (THE CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT): Drums
CEREMONIAL OATH released its legendary debut album, "The Book Of Truth", as a digital download in North America on April 16 via Century Media Records. Besides the album tracks, the download also includes all tracks of the super-rare demos "Wake The Dead" and "Black Sermon" (on which CEREMONIAL OATH are still performing under the band's previous moniker DESECRATOR) as well as the two tracks of the legendary "Lost Name Of God" seven-inch single (originally released on Corpse Grinder Records in 1992).
"The Book Of Truth" does not really match the usual melodic approach many bands from Gothenburg scene established between the heydays of the scene from 1994 to 1999. Being neither pure Gothenburg-ish melodic death metal nor typical old-school Swedish death metal in the Stockholm vein, but more a fine mélange of both worlds spiced up with some technical finesse a la MORBID ANGEL and NOCTURNUS, "The Book Of Truth" has justly become a real classic of unique death metal throughout the years. Still, to this day, the sound of CEREMONIAL OATH has remained surprisingly fresh and unique.
Niklas Sundin (DARK TRANQUILLITY), designer of the first "Lost Name Of God" seven-inch single stated: "The very first DARK TRANQUILLITY show was played 22 years ago, together with CEREMONIAL OATH (who then went by the name DESECRATOR), and for a few years we would often share the stage in the then-miniscule Gothenburg metal scene. I always felt that the band never got the attention and credit they deserved for their raw and quirky death metal, so it's about time that these rare recordings finally get released on a bigger scale and made available to a new generation of fans as well as nostalgia freaks like myself. Storm the gates!”
Anders Björler (ex-THE HAUNTED, AT THE GATES): "Me and Jonas [Björler] did the logo and demo cover artwork back in 1990 for the band DESECRATOR. They were so disappointed and upset they had to form another band and start over. CEREMONIAL OATH was born."
"The Book Of Truth" track listing:
CD1/LP1: The Album
01. Prologue: Sworn To Avenge
02. Chapter I: The Invocator
03. Chapter II: For I Have Sinned / The Praise
04. Chapter III: Enthroned
05. Chapter IV: Only Evil Prevails
06. Chapter V: Thunderworld (Welcome To Forever)
07. Chapter VI: Lords Of Twilight
08. Chapter VII: Ceremonial Oath
09. Chapter VIII: The Lost Name Of God
10. Chapter IX: The Book Of Truth

All tracks on CD2/LP2 are released on the CD for the first time. "Wake The Dead" and "Black Sermon" are released on vinyl for the first time.

MISERY SIGNALS: New Song 'Lost Relics' Available For Streaming
"Lost Relics", a brand new song from the Milwaukee metal band MISERY SIGNALS, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. The track comes off the group's new album, "Absent Light", which will be released on July 23.
Foregoing the traditional record label release model, MISERY SIGNALS launched an Indiegogo campaign in March to work directly with fans to crowd-fund the new album by offering unique funding packages that included handwritten lyrics, vinyl box set, music lessons, listening parties and more. By May, the band had not only reached their funding goal, but had surpassed it by double the amount. The support was a definite sign that fans were eagerly awaiting new music from the seminal band.
"We were floored by the excitement from the people supporting the album," guitarist Ryan Morgan says. "It's a good feeling to have an audience matching the enthusiasm we are putting into it's creation — and they haven't even heard it yet! It'll all come together when they get to hear how insane this album is."
In the course of three full-length albums, MISERY SIGNALS' unique style of aggressive riffs, bright guitar melodies and progressive time signatures have become a significant influence on bands in the genre. Their groundbreaking 2004 debut, "Of Malice And The Magnum Heart", placed the band at the top of their genre for their talent and impeccable musicianship. Following up with the release of "Mirrors" in 2006, the band continued to cultivate a dedicated following with the addition of Karl Schubach on vocals. Their latest release, "Controller", hit heavy and hard with crushing energy appeasing old and new fans alike. After a year of world touring, in support of "Controller", and with the departure of longtime members Stu Ross and Kyle Johnson, the remaining members put the band on pause to focus on other interests and side-projects. With a revitalized lineup and an overflowing passion to create music again, MISERY SIGNALS is ready to be back in full force. | 0

"Have A Good Time", the new video from KING KOBRA, can be seen below. The song comes off the band's new studio album, "II", which was released on July 5 in Europe and July 9 in North America via Frontiers Records.
KING KOBRA's long-awaited self-titled reunion album, released on Frontiers Records in 2011, left no doubt that this was a band to be reckoned with. Even though nearly 25 years had passed since the original lineup recorded the landmark "Ready To Strike" and "Thrill Of A Lifetime" LPs, the energy and immediacy of the bands lightning attack had not diminished one iota and fans responded in kind.
"We chose to name this album 'II' because it is both the second album of our reformation with Frontiers Records as well as the second generation of the band with Paul Shortino as lead vocalist," says guitarist David Michael-Philips. "Paul's unique style gives the band a new feel apart from what we were in the 80s with original singer Mark/Marcie Free. I think the 're-boot' naming gives Paul the credit he deserves while paying homage to our original singer and sound."
The thick, soulful vocals of Paul Shortino, dual guitarists Mick Sweda and David Michael-Philips, and the thundering bass and drums of Johnny Rod and Carmine Appice delivered an album that, while easily carrying on the tradition of the first two releases, brought a contemporary twist to a signature melodic, hard rock style.
"The '70s' flavor of this new album was a conscious move to incorporate our influences into the music," says David Michael-Philips, while Carmine Appice adds "KING KOBRA was a band in the '80s with great players... and had roots in the '70s also.. We tried to make a cool combination of both, which I think we achieved with this new album."
Produced by David Henzerling with Carmine Appice and Paul Shortino, "II" digs into KING KOBRA hard rock roots to create an album that has all the swagger and swing of the classic '70s albums (think MONTROSE, BAD COMPANY, DEEP PURPLE and even Carmine's own legendary CACTUS) with a crystal clear sound that combines the best of both analogue and digital recording techniques. From the tight and punchy "Have A Good Time" to the 8-minute epic "Deep River", "II" shows a more mature band confident of its songwriting ability performing with the technical prowess garnered over years of experience.
"II" track listing:
01. Hell On Wheels
02. Knock 'Em Dead
03. Have A Good Time
04. The Ballad Of Johnny Rod
05. Take Me Back
06. When The Hammer Comes Down
07. Running Wild
08. The Crunch
09. Got It Comin'
10. Deep River

12. We Go Round

The effort will be made available will be available as a digipak CD limited to the first pressing, regular black LP, transparent clear LP and red/yellow colored LP.
"Colored Sands" track listing:

03. Forgotten Arrows
04. Colored Sands
05. The Battle Of Chamdo
06. Enemies Of Compassion
07. Ember's Voice
08. Absconders
09. Reduced To Silence
GORGUTS guitarist/vocalist Luc Lemay previously told Zero Tolerance magazine about "Colored Sands": "It's a whole concept album, so I've been reading books for a year a year and a half for the lyrics to know what I'm going to talk about.
"The lyrics process is very hard for me. First, I'm French, and then I need to educate myself on the topic I'm going to talk about. I'm not going to educate myself on the Chinese invasion of Tibet with a Wikipedia thing.
"I bought piles of books. I feel the same way I did at the conservatory when I was writing classical pieces. It takes months and months, the pieces you just can't get it out of your system. You need to become a sponge, you need to get soaked with the topic. So far so good I'm very very happy with what we've done.
"In the first place I wanted to write the whole album about the rituals of mandalas made with sand. One day my girlfriend's little daughter colored in a coloring book a mandala for me and I wondered what a mandala was, I liked the word. I searched on the Internet and found out this is a Tibetan thing and then it clicked, this is gonna be it, but I didn't have any clue, I wasn't very educated on the Tibetan culture. This mandala thing gets so complex, you could study it for 25-30 years before you know exactly what you're talking about, so I said, 'Okay, I'll take it from a different angle.' It's not a National Geographic documentary either. It's very poetic and very epic. This is my vision. I have no pretension about telling 'truth'; it's how I feel about these people."
The band has also announced a string of headlining shows leading to and from this year's Hopscotch Festival. the U.S. trek, which begins on September 5 in Springfield, Virginia, will travel through Hopscotch before ending on September 8 in Worcester, Massachusetts.
War On Music Records in 2011 released on vinyl the GORGUTS albums "From Wisdom To Hate" (2001) and "Obscura" (1998). These records were largely regarded as pioneering works in the technical death metal genre, and set the standard for the decade to follow.
GORGUTS' current lineup is as follows:
* Luc Lemay (NEGATIVA) - Vocals, Guitar
* Kevin Hufnagel (DYSRHYTHMIA, WHILE HEAVEN WEPT, BYLA, EUCLID STREET, THE FIFTH SEASON, GREY DIVISION BLUE) - Guitar
* Colin Marston (DYSRHYTHMIA, BEHOLD... THE ARCTOPUS, BYLA, KRALLICE, INDRICOTHERE) - Bass
* John Longstreth (DIM MAK, ORIGIN, THE RED CHORD, SKINLESS, POSSESSION, ANGELCORPSE) - Drums

STAUBKIND
Ehrlich, zerbrechlich & mitten ins Herz.

Reactivated HAREM SCAREM To Release 'Mood Swings II' In September
Frontiers Records has announced the release of "Mood Swings II", the album celebrating the reunion of Canadian rockers HAREM SCAREM, on September 24 in North America and September 27 in Europe.
HAREM SCAREM released its second album — the original "Mood Swings" — in 1993. Now 20 years later, the band celebrates the anniversary of such career-defining release, re-recording from scratch the eleven songs that made up that album and also adding three new bonus tracks in the spirit of the original "Mood Swings" direction.
HAREM SCAREM disbanded after the release of its last album, "Hope", in 2008. Five years later, rumors about a possible reunion for some shows started to circulate and were confirmed once Firefest announced the band as headliner of the first night of the event on Friday, October 18. On this occasion, the band will perform the entire "Mood Swings" record live, since they had never officially toured that release outside of Canada. This has led to the booking an extensive European and Asian tour, including the band's second show ever in the U.S. at the Melodic Rock Fest 3 in September in Chicago.
As the idea developed, the band decided to do a modern recording of "Mood Swings", trying to keep true to the original intent as well as writing and recording three brand new tracks. Then it was decided to include a "making-of" video and also to have four songs broken down into individual audio tracks, so that fans can re-mix or play along with the songs.
"This re-record was extremely time consuming. We really put everything into it and spent an incredible amount of time writing and recording the three new bonus tracks," says singer Harry Hess. "We hope everyone can hear the effort that went into it and enjoys the result as much as we do."
"Mood Swings II" track listing:
CD:
01. Saviors Never Cry
02. No Justice
03. Stranger Than Love
04. Change Comes Around
05. Jealousy
06. Sentimental Blvd.
07. Mandy
08. Empty Promises
09. If There Was A Time
10. Just Like I Planned
11. Had Enough
12. World Gone To Pieces
13. Anarchy
14. Brighter Day
DVD:
* "Re-Making Of Mood Swings" documentary
Audio Files:
* Change Comes Around
* Saviours Never Cry
* No Justice
Says Hess: "Due to the huge time commitment everyone would need to make these live dates doable, Creighton Doane and Barry Donaghy had to bow out as the tour dates keep growing. Darren Smith will be back behind the kit for our live dates with Stan Miczek on bass. Even if we have not made any plans beyond the tour at the moment, I'm pretty sure there will be more HAREM SCAREM in the future!"
HAREM SCAREM "Mood Swings II" recording lineup:
Harry Hess: Lead Vocals
Pete Lesperance: Guitar, Bass
Creighton Doane: Drums
Darren Smith: Background Vocals and Lead Vocals on "Sentimental Blvd."

DEATH ANGEL Completes Mastering New Album
San Francisco Bay Area metallers DEATH ANGEL have completed mastering the follow-up to 2010's "Relentless Retribution" for an October release via Nuclear Blast Records. The band's seventh CD was tracked at AudioHammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, AUGUST BURNS RED, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, ALL THAT REMAINS, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER) and DEATH ANGEL guitarist Rob Cavestany handling production duties. The cover artwork is being created by Brent Elliot White (JOB FOR A COWBOY, CARNIFEX, WHITECHAPEL), who also worked on "Relentless Retribution".
Says the band: "Now the record is DONE done! Final masters approved! Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York did a brutally beautiful job, as he did with 'Relentless Retribution'. Completely and absolutely satisfied. So excited for you to hear it."
Cavestany previously stated about DEATH ANGEL's upcoming album: "'Relentless' turned out the way we wanted, so we we're taking it to the next level with the same team… We had a blast doing the last record [at AudioHammer] and now we know each other better and how well we work together.
"It was our idea all along to go directly into the studio following the end of [DEATH ANGEL's most recent] tour, without taking time off.
"We always take a break after an album's touring cycle ends. You basically have to after spending so much time on the road, traveling and performing constantly. But not this time! This tour [was] the longest one we've ever done and that live energy is in our new songs! The glory and the heartache, it's all there.
"That said, this is some of the heaviest, fastest, most powerful material we've ever created! There's something really dark in it too... music is and always will be our outlet to vent and release the built up pressure that life deals. In the world today, we need it more than ever!!!"
"Relentless Retribution" sold 2,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 10 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. The band's previous album, "Killing Season", opened with around 2,300 units back in March 2008. This number was in line with the performance of its predecessor, "The Art of Dying", which registered a first-week sales tally of around 2,100 back in May 2004.
"Relentless Retribution" was released in the U.S. on September 14, 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records.

BATTLEAXE Signs With SPV/STEAMHAMMER
SPV/Steamhammer has announced the signing of cult NWOBHM act BATTLEAXE to a worldwide deal. The agreement covers the release of a new studio album, "Heavy Metal Sanctuary", which is due in early 2014, as well as deluxe reissues of BATTLEAXE's classic metal albums "Burn This Town" (out in October 2013) and "Power From The Universe" (out late summer 2014) with new covers, extended booklets and lots of bonus material.
BATTLEAXE's current lineup consists of the original members Dave King (vocals) and Brian Smith (bass) as well as Mick Percy (guitar) and Paul Atkinson (drums).
Comment Dave King and Brian Smith in a statement: "We think, speaking for the whole band, that we are all elated to be joining the SPV family. A label with great worldwide distribution and also featuring some of our favourite bands.
"It is wonderful to have the opportunity to re-release our old classic albums again as well as introduce our fans to our new more powerful sound.
"After a long and hard struggle, we have finally managed to complete our new album, 'Heavy Metal Sanctuary', which we know will delight our fans worldwide. We do not think it will disappoint in either the songs or the production, and we feel that although it sounds modern and 21st century, it is still classic BATTLEAXE!
"We thank all our loyal fans all over the world who encouraged us to reform (indeed some even demanded it), even though some of you were not even born when the original albums were first released. Now because of this new deal, we will be able to see many of you in 2014 on the European festival scene and possibly around the world.
"Finally, of course, many many thanks to Olly Hahn and all the staff at SPV for making this dream come true!"
Adds SPV/Steamhammer A&R representative Olly Hahn: "Sometimes you have to do something....and I did.
"As a child of the NWOBHM, due to the lack of informations, you had to buy by the cover. In some cases the covers were good but the music average, in other cases the covers were not really good, but the music was killer. This happened to me when I bought 'Burn This Town'. The whole album, as well as the second one, 'Power From The Universe', are classics for me and I know for many metal fans too. And I heard the new songs which are really strong and will surprise a lot of people. Yes, the band is ready to deliver...so are we!" | 0
