SOULFLY: First Studio Trailer For New Album
 A two-minute trailer for SOULFLY's as-yet-untitled ninth album can be seen below. Due later this year via the band's new label home, Nuclear Blast Entertainment, the CD was produced by Terry Date, who is known for his work with such acts as PANTERA, DEFTONES and SOUNDGARDEN, among many others.
Date previously mixed SOULFLY's "3" (2002), "Prophecy" (2004) and "Dark Ages" (2005) albums, but has never produced any of the group's CDs.
The drum tracks on the new SOULFLY CD were laid down by Max's 21-year-old son, Zyon Cavalera, who joined the band as its touring drummer for its recent rampage through North America.
Zyon previously played with SOULFLY during the band's tour of Brazil in February 2012.
It is Zyon's unborn heartbeat that can be heard during the intro of SEPULTURA's classic song "Refuse/Resist", which appeared on the band's RIAA-gold-certified "Chaos A.D." album, released three years before Max's departure from the group.
Drummer David Kinkade (BORKNAGAR, ARSIS, MALEVOLENT CREATION), who played on SOULFLY's eighth album, "Enslaved", left the band last October in order to focus on his personal life.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD: 30-Second Audio Sample Of New Song Posted Online
 AVENGED SEVENFOLD will release its sixth studio album, "Hail To The King", on August 27. The title and the cover artwork (see below) were uncovered via an online scavenger hunt that led fans to different web sites that were hosting puzzle pieces.
A 30-second audio sample of what appears to be the CD's title track has been posted on AVENGED SEVENFOLD's official web site and can now streamed in the YouTube clip below.
Asked what fans can expect from the follow-up to 2010's "Nightmare", AVENGED SEVENFOLD guitarist Synyster Gates told Revolver magazine: "I think our songwriting has improved by leaps and bounds. Sonically, this record is our biggest record by fucking far. When you turn this fucking thing on, it blasts your fucking head off."
The new disc was once again produced by Mike Elizondo and is the first to be wholly written without drummer and key songwriter James "The Rev" Sullivan, who died in December 2009. Sullivan has since been replaced by Arin Ilejay, a former member of CONFIDE.
Regarding how Arin did during the recording sessions for the new album, Gates said: "He came in fucking hot and tore us a new asshole. It was really, really cool. He has impeccable groove, which we've always known. But what I don't think we knew is his proclivity for taste. He is one of the most tasteful drummers I've ever heard in my life. He got that caveman, fucking barbaric huge groove philosophy that we were trying to go for on this record. He really got it in his heart and soul. We definitely had to work with him on it. On the first day of recording, I think everybody was getting to him, so he started overplaying and trying to show his stuff a little bit more. And we said, 'Dude, you've just got to lay back and do what we've been talking about for the last fucking nine months.' And he came in the next day and just blew everybody's mind.
"Originally, we thought that maybe we'd have to write the drum parts. M. Shadows [vocals] and I play a lot of drums. I've been playing drums since I was 16. And Jimmy had given me a fucking thousand lessons if he's given me one. We're not great or anything like that, but we definitely understand the drums and are huge fans. We thought that we maybe were going to have to arrange all of these songs, especially on day one. But when he came in on day two, it was just so refreshing. Everybody had goose bumps and we were just looking at each other like, 'Holy shit, this kid's a monster.'"
AVENGED SEVENFOLD will celebrate the album release by playing a free show at the Hollywood Palladium on August 26.
The new disc was once again produced by Mike Elizondo and will follow up 2010's "Nightmare", which earned the band its first No. 1 album on The Billboard 200 chart.
M. Shadows last year hinted at the direction of the band's next studio LP, telling Metal Hammer that it will not sound like "Carry On", the group's contribution to the video game "Call Of Duty: Black Ops II". Shadows explained, "The new album has a lot more of a [BLACK] SABBATH / [LED] ZEPPELIN feel to it than 'Carry On'. There's definitely more SABBATH in what we're writing, and we're proud of 'Carry On', but this album is going to be on a whole new level."

GODYVA Announce New Bassist
 Italian gothic metallers GODYVA welcome their new bass player, Paela. After the separation from Nick Barah and several intensive auditions, the gothic metal band led by Lady Godyva has finally found with Paela not only an excellent musician, but also a guy with all what is required to join the "family" called Godyva.
Says Paela: “For me it's a huge pleasure to join this band. Everybody work professionally and with the right ambition and humility. I can't wait to play with them live!”
Lady Godyva states: “We've been lucky enough getting the chance to check several very talented bass players, but Paela soon seemed to be on a higher level to me... and then it's a great wag with his hometown strange dialect!”
Drummer Enyo: “I've never felt in my entire life a feeling so marked and powerful between my drums and the bass lines.”
G.G.Gohm (guitar): “Paela is cool! When you feel so artistically stimulated by another musician it means that you were made to play in the same band!”

Giovanni Zaccaria, aka "Paela", besides being currently a member of a famous DREAM THEATER tribute band (YTSEJAM KR) and having played in the past with bands rather renowned of the Italian underground scene as ARTIFEX and DOPOLAVORO FERROVIARIO, as also often played in support of artists like PAUL GILBERT and VIRGIL DONATI during their Italian clinic tours.
On July 26th Paela will play his first concert with Godyva in the Italian city of Bari at the venue La Nueva Vida. This will certainly be an excellent opportunity to test the new version of a band that has always been in continuous growth.

TARJA TURUNEN: Part Two Of New Fan Interview (Video)
 Part two of a new question-and-answer session with former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen can be seen below.
Turunen will release a new single, "Victim Of Ritual", as a digital download, CD single and on seven-inch vinyl on July 12 via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group.
An evocative snare-drum that sounds like it was coming from a mysterious place, the tender sound of an orchestra joins followed by a familiar and seductive melody played by an oboe. When Tarja's distinctive voice resounds through the speakers, her warm timbre fills the room. Her melody is full of emotions and tender, before the song explodes into an epic, heavy chorus: "Hysterical, tragical, Victim of ritual, Cynical, critical, Victim of ritual, She's a killer, killer, She's a killer, killer."
Inspired by the one-movement orchestral piece "Boléro" by Maurice Ravel, the almost-six-minutes-long "Victim Of Ritual" is the first single from Tarja's forthcoming album, "Colours In The Dark".
Both physical releases will surely become rare collector's items, being made available in strictly limited quantities. The four-song digipak CD-single is limited to 3,000 copies worldwide, whereas the two-track sevn-inch vinyl is limited to only 1,500 units worldwide.
A video to "Victim Of Ritual" is scheduled for release in July.

The official lyric video for the song "Never Enough" from former Tarja Turunen can be seen below. The track comes off "Colours In The Dark", which will be released in Europe on August 23 via earMUSIC. The CD wil be made available in North America on August 27 through Eagle Rock imprint Armoury Records.
The"Never Enough" lyric video was filmed in Zlin, Czech Republic. Tarja says: "I didn't want to make a traditional, boring lyric video for the song, so I appear on the video not just the lyrics of the song…. This video is not what we can call the official first music video from my new album, but just an improved version of a lyric video. The filming took only couple hours with Martin, who worked also on directing my first solo live rock DVD, 'Act I'."
The cover artwork for "Colours In The Dark" was created by Dirk Rudolph and can be seen below. Also available is the artwork that will grace the CD's "special edition."
Despite her light and shiny personality, Tarja's music has always been dressed "in black" — the color of heavy rock, of mystery and elegance.
With Tarja's new album, fans will find out what happens when a splice of color is added to the mix. Or — better said — when the full-color spectrum enters the picture it does not cover the black but makes it shine through with many emotions and landscapes.
Following up on the success of the multi-platinum and gold-awarded previous records "My Winterstorm" (2007) and "What Lies Beneath" (2010), Tarja finally returns with her long-awaited new rock album.
Mixed and mastered by Tim Palmer (PEARL JAM, U2) in Austin, Texas, the songs on "Colours In The Dark" do not shy away from taking a risk and surprising musical turns, introducing new sounds and new musical atmospheres. Still, they maintain a heaviness that will surely bring a big smile to the hardest of rockers. With its grand orchestra and choir arrangements, Tarja's next milestone emphasizes once again the impressive vocal range of the Finnish artist and shows her artistic growth. With ten brand new songs and over one hour of music, "Colours In The Dark" is definitely going to be one of the brightest moments for rock in 2013.
In a recent interview with the Music Legends web site, Turunen stated about her upcoming CD: "I have just recently found my style and sound so I would like to establish it with the third studio album. The elements on the album will remain the same as in my previous albums, also the versatile style of songs. I like to keep the big dynamic changes between my songs, so that album songs feel radically different from each other."

VENOM Putting Finishing Touches On New Album
 British black metal pioneers VENOM are currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on their new album for an early 2014 release via Spinefarm Records.
Commented VENOM drummer Danny "Danté" Needham: "The new songs are sounding amazing; the whole album has a great feel.
"I'd say the strength of this band comes from our determination to create great music, and that comes from forward thinking, new ideas and fresh challenges."
Added VENOM bassist/vocalist Conrad "Cronos" Lant: "I believe this is VENOM at its best. The songwriting keeps getting better, and the live shows are tighter and heavier than ever.
"It's clear to me now that all of the lineup changes this band has been through over the years has been an inspiring journey to find the right band of warriors.

VENOM's latest studio album, "Fallen Angels", was released in November 2011 via Spinefarm Records. Featuring 13 recordings produced by Cronos, the follow-up to 2008's "Hell" release saw the trio (completed by guitarist Stuart "Rage" Dixon) adopting a style highly redolent of classic early VENOM with modern studio technology employed only to increase the general level of nastiness.

PRAYING MANTIS Fires Singer, Drummer
 NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) legends PRAYING MANTIS have parted ways with singer Mike Freeland and drummer Gary Mackenzie.
In a statement, Freeland says: "It is with great sadness that I have to tell you all that I am no longer a member of PRAYING MANTIS. Please know that this was not my decision.
"On a more positive note, I've had the most incredible seven years; I have been to some truly amazing places and met some fantastic people — you guys. I can't thank you all enough for your support and for the great times. Keep the faith!"
Adds Mackenzie in his own statement: "Following on from Mike Freeland's post, which some of you may have seen, I am very sad to report that I am also on the list of ex-PRAYING MANTIS members. This was not of my choosing.
"I will miss many aspects of being in the band, but one of the things I'm most sad about is the fact that I won't get to say goodbye in person to the many, many terrific fans I've met around the world — so many of you have shown such amazing support, enthusiasm, commitment and affection for the band and for me, and I am truly grateful to have met and played for you all. Stay lucky, and keep the faith."
PRAYING MANTIS is scheduled to perform at Ipswich Railway on August 3 and at the Cambridge Rock Festival on August 4.
February 2011 saw PRAYING MANTIS release a special limited-edition EP to celebrate 30 years since the release of their critically acclaimed album "Time Tells No Lies". Entitled "Metalmorphosis", the effort included five songs, some of which were from the original album re-recorded by the most recent MANTIS lineup.

ENTOMBED Guitarist Discusses Reissue Campaign
 Swedish metal veterans ENTOMBED recently teamed up with PledgeMusic to launch a reissue campaign for some of their albums.
Speaking to PledgeMusic, ENTOMBED guitarist Alex Hellid stated: "We've been waiting to reissue these albums for a very long time and, yes, it has definitely been something of a journey to get to this point!
"We started thinking about this project and how to do it about 10 years ago, when our license agreement with then label partner Music For Nations ended, longing for the day we could make sure all our albums would be available again properly.
"In 2007, we actively started to talk to possible partners. It looked like we were going to begin rereleasing stuff in 2008. Never thought it would take this long but was determined to find the right way to do it.
"PledgeMusic was worth the wait and a perfect first step in our quest to reintroduce ENTOMBED to old and new ears exactly like we want to, and tell our story. I'm personally very pleased, to say the least, and glad we waited for some 'new roads' to be built."
Asked if anything surprised him as he went back through the older material, Hellid said: "Yes, I am surprised every day now as I find more and more things I haven't heard or seen in a long time and, in some cases, had forgotten about or didn't even know existed. I've started to rediscover the 'To Ride…' album, for example, and realize how much cool stuff is actually on there, remembering what we went through and what we were thinking at the time. [I am] very much look forward to doing that with that with rest of the albums too and sharing those memories and thoughts."

Threeman Recordings, which is owned and run by members of ENTOMBED, recently launched a new collaboration with Ninetone Records. The first release under this arrangement was a single for the re-recorded version of the song "Amok" from ENTOMBED's 2007 album, "Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments", produced by Patrik Frisk (CORRODED).
"Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments" was released in the U.S. on July 31, 2007 via Candlelight/Threeman Recordings. The 10-song effort marked the group's first release with drummer Olle Dahlstedt (ALPHA SAFARI, ex-MISERY LOVES CO.), who replaced Peter Stjärnvind in 2006. Mastering duties were handled by Soren Elofsson at Cosmos Mastering in Stockholm, Sweden.
"Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments" entered the Swedish national chart at position No. 3. This was the highest chart position in the band's career.
The current lineup of ENTOMBED features Victor Brandt (TOTALT JÄVLA MÖRKER, AEON, SATYRICON) and second guitarist Nico Elgstrand (who previously played bass for the group).

'Wagner Reloaded - APOCALYPTICA Meets Wagner': Video Of World Premiere Posted Online
 The world premiere of "Wagner Reloaded - Apocalyptica Meets Wagner" took place this past Friday (July 5) at the Arena in Leipzig, Germany. The entire performance, which was streamed by the German TV channel MDR, has now been posted on YouTube and can be seen below.
May 22, 2013 was the 200th anniversary of the birth of the composer Richard Wagner. The Berlin choreographer, award-winning dancer and artistic director of the Berlin State School of Ballet Gregor Seyffert (best dancer in the world, winner of the German dance award) is staging an exceptional cross-genre spectacle with a combination of dance, artistry, object theatre, audiovisual media and a live concert that enables audiences to experience the oeuvre of Richard Wagner. The focus is not on individual works or dramas but on visual presentation of the unique life and work of Richard Wagner, presented on stage in this form for the very first time.
To stage the theme and Wagner's biography in a contemporary way, Gregor Seyffert wanted to create new musical highlights by bringing today's popular rock music together with compositions by Richard Wagner. A contemporary equivalent is created by the compositions of the Finnish cello-rock band APOCALYPTICA, which, with its unmistakable sound, provides a bridge to modern popular music. Both the influence of Wagner's musical legacy as well as the exemplary innovativeness which links Richard Wagner and APOCALYPTICA today will be made tangible.

MIDNITE HELLION Sign To Witches Brew; New 7" Coming This Fall
 Trenton, NJ-based traditional heavy/speed metallers MIDNITE HELLION have announced their partnership with the recently reactivated German label, Witches Brew.
“Having worked with Cheryl and Witches Brew with a previous band, I am extremely eager to work with them again! It was a purely pleasurable experience, and I am confident in their abilities to propel the band to higher ground with this new alliance,” said drummer Drew Rizzo. “Watch out, Germany, we’re coming for you again!”
Midnite Hellion’s first release with Witches Brew will be a 7” single featuring all-new material. The band will be entering the studio in August, and the single is slated for a September release.
Midnite Hellion has also announced the addition of a new singer, who is yet to be named. They are currently running a contest to win a pair of tickets to their show on Wednesday, July 17th at The Backstage at Champs in Trenton, NJ, if one can correctly guess who their new singer is.
“We are keeping this a bit vague, but those who are already familiar with her work in previous bands should know her distinct trademark vocal style,” Rizzo advised. “The only hint we are providing is that she has been a staple in the NYC Metal scene, having world-wide recognition in her prior bands.”
The contest will end next week, which is when the new singer will be officially announced. A sample of her work is available below:

EMPYRIUM To Release Into The Pantheon CD, DVD/Blu-Ray In August; Pre-Order Available
 German folk metallers EMPYRIUM will issue their first release in seven years. Into The Pantheon, out on August 30th via Prophecy Productions, is a recording of the band's legendary debut concert in Leipzig 2011, plus a 100-minute documentary on the band's history.
June 11th, 2011, was a landmark date in Empyrium's history. After more than 15 years, Schwadorf and Helm played their very first show ever on that day, taking place at the Wave Gotik Treffen in the Pantheon of Volkspalast Leipzig. For this memorable event, the two core members put together an illustrious concert lineup, consisting of Konstanz (THE VISION BLEAK), Neige (ALCEST), Eviga (DORNENREICH), Fursy Teyssier (LES DISCRETS), Aline Deinert (NEUN WELTEN) and Christoph Kutzer (REMEMBER TWILIGHT), who had rehearsed pieces from every creative phase of Empyrium as well as the new, so-far unreleased song, 'Dead Winter Ways'.
The show, which lasted about 70 minutes, was captured in sound and vision to be released now as an audio-CD and Blu-Ray/DVD. This magical world premiere, recorded in high-resolution HD video and stereo, respectively 5.1 surround sound, constitutes the heart of Into The Pantheon. In addition to the concert, a documentary of more than 100-minutes provides a detailed and exhaustive account on the band's past by means of interviews with Schwadorf, Helm and the live musicians. Therefore, Into The Pantheon is not only a must for fans, but also serves as an ideal introduction for everybody who wants to get a comprehensive overview of Empyrium.

AMONG GODS Re-Sign With PRC Music; Monument Album Due In February 2014
 Bergen, Norway-based death metal act AMONG GODS have re-signed with Quebec-based underground label PRC Music for their sophomore album, entitled Monument, and due for release on February 25th, 2014.
Monument is a 45-minute long opus into heavy, dark and doomy old school death metal, somewhat similar to the band's self-titled debut, released earlier this year.
PRC Music owner Rémi Côté comments on the band's new material: “I was blown away by the rough studio cuts I have heard of the new album, the music is darker and dare I say more melodic while keeping a gloomy, desperate feel to the general aura of it all. The vocals are amazing! I'm a fan of SYRACH and Ripper's voice is unique! I can't wait to plunge into the whole thing. I am very happy to be working with these guys once again!”
Among Gods are currently putting the final touch to the new recording and making plans for a full blown European tour and yet another release, a limited edition 2-song 7" EP.

IRON MAIDEN's DOWNLOAD Festival Spitfire Flypast Was 'Fantastic,' Says Squadron Leader
 IRON MAIDEN kicked off its headlining performance at Download festival on June 15 with a Spitfire TE311 flypast. The classic World War II fighter plane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight stationed at RAF Coningsby crossed the skies at Donington Park in Leicestershire, United Kingdom three times before the British heavy metal legends opened their show with "Moonchild", a song from their 1988 album "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son". Squadron Leader Andrew Millikin was behind the controls of the aircraft as it flew over 90,000 expectant fans. He told Horncastle News: "We do flypasts all over the country but this was something completely different. We don't normally do rock festivals. There's been a lot of interest from fans who attended. I'd have never thought that a bunch of metal fans would be interested in RAF craft but I've been proved wrong. It was fantastic to fly over. I get goose bumps every time I see the Spitfire in the air, so I can't imagine what it was like down there. It was really nerve racking at times, though. We wanted to make sure we were right on time for the start of the band’s performance."
This was IRON MAIDEN's fifth time at the festival, which was known as Monsters Of Rock in its earlier incarnation. They last performed in 2007, on a bill that also included LINKIN PARK, SLAYER and MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE.
MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson, a commercial airline pilot and established aviation entrepreneur, last year teamed with Joe McBryan and the staff of Buffalo Airways, who star in History Television reality-TV show "Ice Pilots NWT", for an episode in which he flew a World War II–era plane to Yellowknife in Canada. The flight was even covered by a couple of journalists who were enthusiastically covering it live on Twitter.

RISING Completes Work On Sophomore Album, Loses Members
 Danish metallers RISING have completed work on their sophomore album, "Abominator". The band states: "[The CD] contains nine tracks displaying a faster, more aggressive and gritty side to the band. We're all happy with the result of the last year's labor and are looking very much forward to share the songs with you. We want to thank everybody involved in the making of the album, especially our producer and good friend, the ever-awesome Jacob Reichert Nielsen."
The group adds: "However, it will be the last album from this incarnation of the band. Three days ago, Jacob Johansen [drums] and Henrik Hald [vocals, bass] left the band and for the time being everything is very uncertain, not at least as to how and when 'Abominor' will be released. We will get the album out one way or the other though, and I hope to post a new song within a foreseeable future and will equally keep you updated on the band and the release of the album."
Since the release of the debut album "To Solemn Ash" (Exile On Mainstream) in October 2011, Danish metallers RISING have had an active year, playing over 50 shows, including two European tours, festival appearances at Spot (Denmark), Copenhell (Denmark) and Hultsfred (Sweden) and co-headlining the Danish MTV Headbangers Ball Tour in November.

TESTAMENT - Chuck Billy Honored By California State Assembly
 Yesterday, Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D-Oakley) honored Chuck Billy, an Antioch resident and the vocalist for Bay Area thrash metal legends TESTAMENT, on the State Assembly floor for the positive influence he has made in the Native American community and on the general public.
On January 14th, 2013, Chuck Billy earned the distinction as the first Native American entertainer to be permanently featured in the memorabilia display at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Chuck was also among those recognized in the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian’s exhibit, Up Where We Belong: Native Musicians In Popular Culture.
“The world of music is inhabited by creative and talented individuals whose work enhances the quality of life for all who are fortunate enough to have entered their sphere of influence,” said Jim Frazier. “Not only does Chuck Billy embody all of these admirable qualities, he also personifies the strength and enduring spirit of Native Americans.”
Chuck Billy, a descendent of the Pomo Native Americans, was born in Oakland and spent much of his youth on the Hopland Indian Reservation north of San Francisco. He is best known as the vocalist for Testament, where he plays several songs including 'Trail of Tears', 'Allegiance', and 'Native Blood', in honor of his ancestral lineage.
Testament recently took home the award for “Best Music Video” at the American Indian Film Festival for their clip for the track 'Native Blood'. The song, whose lyrics are about vocalist Chuck Billy’s Native American heritage, was filmed at the Hopland Indian Reservation in Hopland, CA. The clip was directed by Mike Sloat (MACHINE HEAD, STAIND).

GALLOWS POLE - And Time Stood Still Album Details Revealed
 GALLOWS POLE will release their new album, And Time Stood Still, on July 26th via Pure Steel/Pure Rock Records. The pre-order phase will start on July 12th.
In the 80s there were some Austrian bands like NO BROS, SPEED LIMIT and Gallows Pole, who played classic melodic heavy metal, but they couldn’t really compete with the German bands. So, many people never knew that Gallows Pole released some really popular songs on their albums In Rock We Trust (1981) and We Wanna Come Home (1989). These songs can make every metallic dream come true even today.
Pure Steel sub-label Pure Rock Records released the band's album Waiting For the Mothership two years ago, and now present And Time Stood Still. On this album you will find all the typical trademarks of the quintet: melodic hard rock, which is very near heavy metal, meets the unique and authentic, powerful vocals of Alois Binder. FORTID Frontman Issues Update On New Album, Upcoming Side-Projects
 Einar Thorberg, founder and frontman of Norwegian extreme pagan metallers FORTID has issued an update on the progress of the band’s fifth full-length album. “The drums have been finalised, and we’re well into the pre-production stage and happy with the way things are progressing. With this album I didn’t want to make a repeat of 2012’s Pagan Prophecies or any of our other albums come to that, so there will be more diversity in tempo, and maybe even an occasional flirtation with pop/rock, but not enough to upset our fans. The lyrical concept of the album deals with the quest for knowledge and a deeper understanding of oneself and the universe through Nordic tradition and the story of Odin. The lyrics will be in Icelandic, which is my mother tongue and allows me to express myself more personally and deeply than I could in any other language."

As well as Fortid, Thorberg has a number of other projects he is involved in, one of them being MIDNATTSVREDE which has largely remained dormant since 1994, but is now active again, and set to release a split album with another of his projects, CURSE. Midnattsvrede’s contribution will be 4 tracks, one of which will be a cover of VED BUENS ENDE’s 'Carrier Of Wounds' a song that Thorberg is particularly excited about, having laid the groundwork for it back in 2007. As he explains: “Finally the piece is going to come to light, and we’ll be interpreting it in a whole different way. The track blends perfectly with Midnattsvrede’s own material and if you know VBE you’ll get some kind of idea of what to expect - but only partly!”
Curse’s contribution will be one very long song which is divided into four separate tracks dealing with a blend of philosophy and science. It won’t be in the Black ‘n Roll style of Curse’s last album, but will hark back to the more atmospheric style that the band used on the split with SYKDOM. In July Thorberg will hit the stage at the Eistnaflug Music Festival in Reykjavík , Iceland, with POTENTIAM, the band that he fondly refers to as “the slowest working band there is”. Despite this, after 16 years Potentiam is still going strong, with drums and half the guitars already recorded on what will be the band’s fourth full-length album which will feature eight tracks in the gloom-laden style for which Potentiam is known. If Fortid and three other projects were not enough, Thorberg has also finished recording an album with Gudmundur Óli Pálmason from SÓLSTAFIR for UNKOWN CIRCLE, a band he calls his new “experimental pet project."

It was not in the cards that the undisputed kings of metal were going to Europe at all this summer. But late in the game, the organizers managed to secure a single show with the band that visited Roskilde 10 years ago, teaching the attendees a lesson in thrash metal that made traffic around the festival come to a standstill.
METALLICA played its first Roskilde show in 1986, the year the band's Copenhagen-recorded "Master Of Puppets" album was released.
METALLICA last month headlined the second edition of its Orion Music + More festival, which was held in Detroit on June 8-9. The group headlined the second day while also playing a surprise afternoon set on the first day at which it played its entire 1983 debut disc "Kill 'Em All".
The group has a scattering of festival slots lined up into September, just before its upcoming 3D movie, "Metallica Through the Never", premieres on IMAX screen in North America on September 27.
METALLICA filmed the movie last August, combining live performance footage from three shows in Vancouver with a storyline following a fictional member of their crew, played by actor Dane DeHaan, who's sent on a mission during a concert.

TODD LA TORRE-Fronted Version Of QUEENSRŸCHE: Pro-Shot Footage From ROCK HARD FESTIVAL
 Professionally filmed video footage of the Todd La Torre-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE performing two brand new songs, "Redemption" and "Fallout", on May 18 at the Rock Hard Festival at Amphitheater in Gelsenkirchen, Germany can be seen below. (Note: The footage originally aired on WDR's [German public TV] series "Rockpalast".)
The new self-titled album from the Todd La Torre-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE sold around 13,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 23 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record arrived in stores on June 25 via Century Media Records.
"Frequency Unknown", the latest album from the Geoff Tate-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE, opened with around 5,500 units to debut at No. 82.
QUEENSRŸCHE's 2011 studio CD, "Dedicated To Chaos", registered a first-week tally of around 8,000 to enter the chart at No. 70. The band's 2009 effort, the epic concept album "American Soldier", premiered with 21,000 copies to debut at No. 25. This was roughly half the first-week tally registered by QUEENSRŸCHE's "Operation: Mindcrime II" album, which shifted 44,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release back in April 2006 to land at No. 14 on The Billboard 200 chart.
QUEENSRŸCHE's 2003 effort, "Tribe", sold 20,000 copies in the first week while 1999's "Q2K" opened with sales of 28,000.
QUEENSRŸCHE's top-selling album by far is 1990's "Empire", which was certified triple-platinum in October 1994 for sales in excess of three million copies in the United States. The original "Operation: Mindcrime" release (1988) attained platinum status in August 1991, while 1994's "Promised Land" reached the same plateau in December 1994.
"Queensrÿche" marks the debut release from the lineup comprised of La Torre (vocals; ex-CRIMSON GLORY), Michael Wilton (guitar), Parker Lundgren (guitar), Eddie Jackson (bass) and Scott Rockenfield (drums). The drums for the album were recorded at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, Washington with producer James "Jimbo" Barton — the man who engineered and mixed the band's classic 1988 LP, "Operation: Mindcrime", and its 1990 follow-up, "Empire", and co-produced 1994's "Promised Land". The rest of the music and vocals were laid down at several different facilities on the West Coast. Detroit's TEMPLE OF VOID Sign With Rain Without End Records; Debut Album Forthcoming
 Detroit, MI-based death/doom metal act TEMPLE OF VOID have inked a deal with Rain Without End Records for the release of their debut full-length album, currently in production. A vinyl edition of the new album will be released by Saw Her Ghost Records.

DANGER ANGEL Release 'Not An Angel' Video
 DANGER ANGEL have released the second video from their new album, Revolutia. 'Not An Angel' was filmed during the band's European tour this past April and contains footage from several of the band's stops along the way.
Revolutia is the sophomore release by Danger Angel following their debut album released in 2010. Revolutia was produced by Jeff Scott Soto (TALISMAN, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, JOURNEY, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA) and mixed/mastered by John Ellis. It was released early 2013.

GIUNTINI PROJECT - 'Born In The Underworld' Video Featuring TONY MARTIN Available
 'Born In The Underworld', the new video from Italian guitarist Aldo Giuntini's new GIUNTINI Project IV album - featuring BLACK SABBATH frontman TONY MARTIN - can be viewed below:
Giuntini Project IV was released in May via Escape Music. It has been six years but Aldo is now back with the fourth chapter of his Project. “My way of writing and producing the songs needs a lot of time”, he says, “One could say I am a perfectionist, but when I have musical ideas for my guitar, I often have the other guys working with their own inputs: Also I need to have Tony Martin to work on the lyrics at the end, so this takes away a lot of time”.
Aldo comments: "Project IV continues the line of Project II, III, musically and I' m sure that who loved my second, and third work will appreciate the IV album in the same way and more, since the production work is a lot improved this time and produced by Dario Mollo (MOLLO / MARTIN)."
According to a press release, "the sound of Giuntini’s work is a combination of “the warmth and the power of Black Sabbath's Headless Cross, Tyr, RAINBOW's Long Live Rock & Roll and Rising and DIO's Holy Diver with energetic sound of LOUDNESS, the Japanese metal heroes! Giuntini’s guitar playing is mainly influenced by Akira Takasaki, Vivian Campbell, Edward Van Halen, Jake E. Lee, John Norum and, of course Malmsteen."
Project IV also features Ezio Secomandi (on drums), Dario Patti (on keyboards) and Fulvio Gaslini (on bass).
“I wanted to have Tony again,” explains Aldo, “because he is my favourite voice and I think that the blend of our styles is just perfect!”

JANE'S ADDICTION Guitarist Paints Mother's Portrait With Own Blood
 According to The Pulse Of Radio, JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro recently participated in an art ritual in the California desert. Navarro took part in a bloodletting ceremony, with his blood used to paint a portrait of his late mother, Constance Navarro. Dave was bled through a cut on his forehead, with the blood collected in a wine glass to use in the painting. Navarro is no stranger to bizarre practices: he has undergone flesh hook suspension through his back, which he still practices, and also recently went through some scarification.
Constance Navarro was murdered by boyfriend John Riccardi in March 1983. Dave was only 15 years old at the time of his mother's death. Riccardi was arrested in 1991, thanks to a viewer tip after Navarro appeared on the television series "America's Most Wanted".
JANE'S ADDICTION will release a concert document called "Live In NYC" on June 25. The set will be issued on DVD/CD, Blu-ray and double LP vinyl, as well as standalone DVD and CD. The show was filmed and recorded at New York City's Terminal 5 on July 25, 2011, while the band was touring in support of its first studio album in eight years, "The Great Escape Artist".
The group and ALICE IN CHAINS will co-headline the fourth annual Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival, which kicks off on August 9 in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Former MISFITS Singer MICHALE GRAVES Releases 'Lost Skeleton Returns' Album, 'Zombie' Video
 Former MISFITS singer Michale Graves has just released a new album entitled "Lost Skeleton Returns". Recorded at Soundmine Recording Studios, the CD was produced by Hydraulic Entertainment and made available through the company's Vile Of Venom label. It features 16 songs highlighting all phases of Graves' horror rock career, including six new and never-before-released songs. Included on the effort are new performances of early classic songs "Dig Up Her Bones", "Scream", "American Psycho", "Die Monster Die", "Fiend Club" and "Fiend Without a Face" as well as new versions of three songs from Graves' "Punk Rock Is Dead" period: "Godzilla", "Dawn Of The Dead", "Earth Vs Spider". The album also includes six brand new songs: "Lost Skeleton", "Last Man On Earth", "Night Of The Living Dead", "Zombie", "Forbidden Planet" and "Something Wicked". There will be six music videos released in support of the new album, led by the clip for "Zombie", featuring horror hostess Skel-pira, which can be viewed below.
Graves commented: "Monster Rock and the Skele-Crow persona is my origin, my passion and part of who I will always be as a performer.
"This album is a true anthology of my work and highlights the most important songs that I have written and performed.

GHOST: Quality Fan-Filmed Footage Of 'Monstrance Clock' Performance From GRASPOP
 Quality fan-filmed video footage of Swedish occult rockers GHOST performing the song "Monstrance Clock" on June 30 at the Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel, Belgium can be seen below.
The official "Monstrance Clock" video was directed by Rob Semmer and was shot on location at the El Rey in Los Angeles and Webster Hall in New York City. The song comes of GHOST's sophomore album, "Infestissumam", which sold around 14,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 28 on The Billboard 200 chart.
The CD topped the official chart in the group's home country after selling nearly five times as many copies as the No. 2 album, MISS LI's "Wolves".
The release date of "Infestissumam" was reportedly pushed back a week to April 16 after four compact disc manufacturers allegedly refused to print a piece of artwork that was meant for the deluxe version of the new CD. The manufacturers all took issue with the sacrilegious imagery, inspired by the work of Gustave Dore, which showcases what looks like a forest nymph orgy. The controversial art can still be found on both the vinyl and European copies of the "Infestissuman" CD.
GHOST was forced to modify its name in the U.S. to GHOST B.C. for "legal reasons."
Hailing from Linköping, Sweden, GHOST formed in in 2008. They released their heralded debut album, "Opus Eponymous", in 2010. In 2011, GHOST performed at the annual Download festival in the United Kingdom. The band's fanbase began to swell and not long after added some of hard rock's finest to this group. Additionally that year, GHOST took part in the "Defenders Of Faith III" tour with TRIVIUM, IN FLAMES and RISE TO REMAIN. In early 2012, they embarked on their first tour of the United States and later that year shared the stage with MASTODON and OPETH on their "Heritage Hunter Tour" in North America. That summer the band was invited by METALLICA's James Hetfield to perform on the main stage of METALLICA's first annual Orion Music + More festival.

Reactivated DOWNSET Performs At Colombia's ROCK AL PARQUE Festival (Video)
 Reactivated Los Angeles rap/hardcore/metal act DOWNSET performed at the Rock Al Parque festival in Bogotá, Colombia on Saturday, June 29. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.
Formed in 1986, DOWNSET released albums on the Mercury and Epitaph labels before disbanding in 2009.
Vocalist Rey Oropeza is not part of the group's current lineup, which is comprised of Neil Roemer (vocals), Rogelio Lozano (guitar), Christopher Lee (drums), and J.D. Manhart (bass).
Said DOWNSET in a statement: "After reaching out in repeated attempts to reunite all of the original members of the band, we are apologetic to you, our friends and family, to announce that they have failed. Some members did not want to do it for their own reasons and the rest of us respect that. There is no ill will on either end and we all feel it is very important to push forward and honor our fans and obligations as artists, as DOWNSET, to all of you in appreciation of your continued support."

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY: Fan-Filmed Video Footage Of Uncasville Performance
 Fan-filmed video footage of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's July 5 performance at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut as part of this year's Gigantour can be seen below.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's "Unblackened" DVD was shot on March 6 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. The set is expected to contain intimate versions of some of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's most popular songs, as well as songs from mainman Zakk Wylde's solo album "Book Of Shadows" and his Southern rock band PRIDE & GLORY.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's "The Song Remains Not The Same" sold around 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 41 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released on May 10, 2011 via Entertainment One Music, the offering featured unplugged versions of material from BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's latest album, "Order Of The Black", as well as additional material recorded during the "Order Of The Black" sessions. "The Song Remains Not The Same" was conceived, created and compiled by Wylde himself and the title is, of course, a nod to one of Wylde's favorite bands, LED ZEPPELIN.
