TERROR: \'Defining The Faith\' DVD Details Revealed
 On November 1, Los Angeles hardcore/metal band TERROR will release the "Defining The Faith" DVD as part of the special deluxe reissue of the group's latest CD, "Keepers Of The Faith". Produced, edited, and authored by Carlo Oppermann and Ambitious.Films, "Defining The Faith" features a full live set that is composed of three different TERROR shows in three distinct settings: a small club, a big hall, and a massive European festival. These live performances were filmed at the following concerts: Mach1 festival in Montabaur (June 24), Cafe Central in Weinheim (June 28), and Essigfabrik in Köln (June 29), and the complete set-list for the DVD is below.

CHILDREN OF BODOM Frontman Performs With DEFTONES In Helsinki
 CHILDREN OF BODOM guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho joined DEFTONES on stage last night (Tuesday, August 30) at Circus in Helsinki, Finland to perform the song "Root". Fan-filmed video footage his appearance can be seen below.
DEFTONES recently began laying the groundwork for its seventh studio release, tentatively due next year. Vocalist Chino Moreno told Billboard magazine that all five members of the group were recording their own ideas already, but that DEFTONES music doesn't really emerge until the full band gets into a room together and starts jamming.
He explained, "We find that when we actually get together in a rehearsal spot where there's no distractions and we can work together cohesively as a band, that's really when we're writing songs."

IRON MAIDEN, JETHRO TULL, MOODY BLUES Members To Take Part In Canterbury Rocks At Christmas
 IRON MAIDEN's Bruce Dickinson, JETHRO TULL frontman Ian Anderson and Justin Hayward of the MOODY BLUES will perform for the first time together under the name Canterbury Rocks At Christmas on Saturday, December 10th at the Canterbury Cathedral Nave in Kent, England in support of The Canterbury Gift, which raises funds for the ongoing renovation work on the cathedral.
According to Wikipedia, The Canterbury Cathedral Appeal was launched to protect and enhance Canterbury Cathedral's future as a religious, heritage and cultural centre. Every five years the cathedral carries out a major structural review. The last so-called Quinquennial made it very clear that a combination of centuries of weathering, pollution and constant use had taken its toll on the building and there were some serious problems at Canterbury Cathedral that needed urgent action.
Much of the cathedral's stonework is damaged and crumbling, the roofs are leaking and much of the stained glass is badly corroded. It is thought that if action is not taken now, the rate of decay and damage being inflicted on the building will increase dramatically with potentially disastrous results, including closure of large sections of the cathedral in order to guarantee the safety of the million plus worshippers, pilgrims and tourists who visit the cathedral every year.
Ian Anderson spoke of the importance of supporting Canterbury Cathedral recently. "If our generation and the future generations don't do it, then it will be lost," he said. "There is a real parallel regarding the preservation of our great buildings, and the greater sense of conserving our world. We need a huge change of thinking about the stewardship of our planet and all it contains, both natural and man-made. Canterbury Cathedral is a place for life today. But it is also a place for the future and, whether you are a Christian or not, it is a place which should remain forever close to our hearts." | 0 | |

METALLICA\'s Collaboration With LOU REED: More Details Revealed
 In what is sure to be one of the most talked-about alliances of the year, New York king of avant-rock Lou Reed has teamed up with best-selling hard rock band METALLICA to record a brand-new album, entitled "Lulu", which will be released by Warner Bros. Records on November 1, 2011. The album was co-produced by Reed, METALLICA, Hal Willner — who has produced albums for Reed, Marianne Faithfull, and Laurie Anderson, among others — and Greg Fidelman. Fidelman also mixed the record.
The idea for these two giants of modern music to work together was born after the 25th anniversary Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame concerts in New York City in October 2009. METALLICA — singer/guitarist James Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo — played with Reed on VELVET UNDERGROUND classics "Sweet Jane" and "White Light/White Heat". "We knew from then that we were made for each other," Reed says.
After that triumphant performance, Reed suggested they all make a record together. At first they planned to record an album of Reedfraven's older material, what Ulrich describes as "some of Lou's lost jewels — songs that he felt he'd like to give a second spin, and we could do whatever it is we do to some of those songs." That idea "hung in the air for a couple of months." Then, a week or two before that session was to begin, "Lou called up and said, 'Listen, I have this other idea.'"
That idea was to record a series of songs Reed had written for American avant-garde theater director Robert Wilson and German theater group the Berliner Ensemble's production of the "Lulu Plays", which premiered in April at the Theatre am Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin, founded by Bertolt Brecht. The songs are inspired by German expressionist Frank Wedekind's early 20th century plays "Earth Spirit" and "Pandora's Box", and were a rewrite of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven", which emerged as a graphic novel on Fantagraphics Press.
"We were very interested in working with Lou," says Hetfield. "I had these giant question marks: What's it going to be like? What's going to happen? So it was great when he sent us the lyrics for the 'Lulu' body of work. It was something we could sink our teeth into. I could take off my singer and lyricist hat and concentrate on the music part. These were very potent lyrics, with a soundscape behind them for atmosphere. Lars and I sat there with an acoustic and let this blank canvas take us where it needed to go. It was a great gift, to be asked to stamp 'TALLICA on it. And that's what we did."
"We had to bring 'Lulu' to life in a sophisticated way, using rock," Reed says. "And the hardest power rock you could come up with would have to be METALLICA. They live on that planet. We played together, and I knew it: dream come true. This is the best thing I ever did. And I did it with the best group I could possibly find. By definition, everybody involved was honest. This has come into the world pure. We pushed as far as we possibly could within the realms of reality."
"It's definitely not a METALLICA album, or a Lou Reed album," adds Hammett. "It's something else. It's a new animal, a hybrid."

ICED EARTH - John Schaffer Drops European Setlist Hints
 ICED EARTH guitarist/founder John Schaffer and new vocalist Stu Block are currently in Europe, participating in a 10-day, multi-country promotional campaign for the forthcoming album, Dystopia, scheduled for release on October 18th.
After that, the band will begin a full headlining tour, which kicks off in Bochum, Germany (October 30th) and finishes in Istanbul, Turkey on December 12th. North American dates are currently under discussion, for early 2012.
BraveWords.com had a chance to speak with Schaffer about how Block's arrival will alter the live setlist:
"It will definitely open with (new title cut) ‘Dystopia’," offers Schaffer, "but there’s a couple of big surprises. The setlist is going to be very different from what we’ve done recently. We were trapped in nostalgia mode a little bit (with Matt Barlow's final dates). Now, we’re moving into some things in the catalog that we haven’t played since the Horrorshow tour. Looks like we’ll be playing ‘Damien’, ‘When The Night Falls’, probably do ‘Angels Holocaust’. Of course we’ll do the more recent classics, for sure: ‘Declaration Day’, ‘Iced Earth’, ‘Burning Times’, but we’re going to try to have a vast amount of songs to choose from and switch it up every night, not the same thing all the time. That’s something Stu and I have to decide. We’ve got about a week and a half of press and traveling, so we’ll have some time to sit down and talk about what he feels comfortable to do with the powerful range of his voice."

DEATH - Individual Thought Patterns Reissue To See Release In October
 The next reissue of DEATH’s legendary catalog is 1993’s Individual Thought Patterns. The follow-up album to Human, Individual Thought Patterns has been remixed by Alan Douches and re-packaged to include a second and third bonus disc worth of previously unreleased demos and a full live set recorded in Germany during a 1993 European tour. Also included on the third bonus disc exclusive to this re-issue are rare riff tracks from the Chuck Schuldiner archives. The complete tracklisting for all three discs can be found below.
Individual Thought Patterns is set for an October 25th North American release date, October 28th in the Benelux / Germany, and October 31st in the UK and rest of Europe. Guitarist ORIANTHI To Join ALICE COOPER
 Alice Cooper announced today that eminent guitar prodigy Orianthi will join his band, replacing departing guitarist Damon Johnson, for the next leg of his 2011 "No More Mr. Nice Guy" world tour starting September 22 in Auckland, New Zealand. Currently in progress, the tour hits ninety plus cities, covering five continents, including Europe and North America twice over.
At the young age of 26, Orianthi has already experienced what most aspiring musicians only dream of. She's opened for her hero, Steve Vai; backed Carrie Underwood; traded solos with Carlos Santana; shared the stage with the King of Pop (Michael Jackson) and accompanied Alice during his live performance of "School's Out" on the 2010 season finale of "American Idol".
"It's very difficult to find someone to match the talents of Damon Johnson," commented Cooper, "but not only did we find someone who is more than up to the challenge…she also looks WAY better."
Orianthi will join world-renowned guitarist Steve Hunter (toured and recorded with Cooper and Lou Reed) and Tommy Henriksen (co-wrote and played on Cooper's upcoming release); drummer Glen Sobel and Alice's longtime bassist Chuck Garric round out the band.
"I'm super-excited to go on tour with Alice," said Orianthi. "It's a huge honor to be able to get on stage and jam with an icon."
Orianthi will debut with the band for a performance on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" on Friday September 9 on NBC.

 CHARRED WALLS OF THE DAMNED sind zurück mit dem Nachfolger ihres allerorts gefeierten, selbstbetitelten Debütalbums! Richard Christy, Tim "Ripper" Owens, Jason Suecof und Steve DiGiorgio haben sich erneut vereint und dem neusten Baby Christys, Cold Winds on Timeless Days, Leben eingehaucht. Das Songwriting für das neue Album begann bereits, als die Band noch mit dem Mix ihres Erstlings beschäftigt war. Richard Christy griff dabei auf seine durch die erste Scheibe gewachsene Erfahrung zurück, wodurch er besser auf den Stil jedes einzelnen Musikers und die Produktionsweise von Jason Suecof eingehen konnte. Das Ergebnis waren Demos, die nahezu identisch mit dem Endergebnis auf der neuen Platte sind!
Die Scheibe hat eine Laufzeit von 58 Minuten und enthält zwölf Songs, wodurch die Fans dieses mal mehr Musik für ihr Geld erhalten. Zwölf Songs in kurzer Zeit aufzunehmen ist keine einfache Aufgabe, aber eine, die vollbracht werden konnte, weil sich in der Band herausragende Talente befinden. Richard Christy: "I wanted to get a natural sound out of this album, I wanted everyone to be well rehearsed, not that I wanted the album to be rushed, but I wanted the spontaneous live feel and not over think anything too much."
