KATATONIA: Quality Footage Of London DVD-Shoot Concert
 KATATONIA's May 6, 2011 concert at Koko in London, England was professionally filmed/recorded for a future DVD release. The show, which was part of the 20th-anniversary "Last Fair Day Gone Night Tour 2011", saw the band perform two sets. The first set consisted of a performance of the entire "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" album front to back. The second set was a mixture of carefully picked songs from the band's extensive catalogue.

YES Guitarist TREVOR RABIN Working On First Solo Album In 22 Years
 illboard.com has issued the following report from Phil Gallo:
Film composer and former YES guitarist TREVOR RABIN is mixing his first solo album since 1989, a collection of instrumentals that Voiceprint Records will release in September.
Rabin, whose credits include Race to Witch Mountain, Armageddon and the NCAA basketball tournament theme, recorded all the instruments himself except for the drums. For percussion he brought in Vinnie Colaiuta, Louis Molino and his son Ryan Rabin of the band GROUPLOVE.
"It's time to let this baby go," he says. "In every project I have done, there has been (a deadline and a goal). With (my first band) RABBIT, it was a single and then albums; with Yes you had to make a strong, viable album, and with film you've got a schedule to keep. Here, I was able to do what I wanted. HALFORD, ARMORED SAINT Members Featured On RAY BURKE Solo Debut
 Los Angeles-based bass player Ray Burke, whose credits include BRUCE DICKINSON, LIFE AFTER DEATH, ROB ROCK, WARRIOR, and currently THE GREEN ALMIGHTY, has announced the release of his debut solo album, titled "Humanity Street", out on Bright Orange Records.
"Humanity Street", inspired by a flooded street in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, features an exciting array of high-caliber guest players from the metal, rock and jazz world. Included are longtime friend/guitarist Roy Z (BRUCE DICKINSON, HALFORD, TRIBE OF GYPSIES), brothers Phil and Gonzo Sandoval (ARMORED SAINT, LIFE AFTER DEATH), vocalists Jack Emrick (LIFE AFTER DEATH, FROST), Bob Khaleel (SUPER 8), and Tim Neighbors (THE GREEN ALMIGHTY), guitarists Dave Duncan, Joel Shearer (ALANIS MORRISETTE, ANNIE LENNOX, SUPER 8), Joe Floyd (WARRIOR), John Goodwin (RHOADS, RUDE AWAKENING, JAMES BLUNT), and Chris Grady (DELTANAUT), keyboardist John Schuller (BILLY PRESTON, SLY STONE), and drummers Jon Mattox (THE YOUNG DUBLINERS, UNI), and Dave Moreno (BRUCE DICKINSON, TRIBE OF GYPSIES, LOVE/HATE). Tex Nakamura (WAR, THE 44'S) on harmonica, percussionist Leon Mobley (BEN HARPER & THE INNOCENT CRIMINALS), Azar Lawrence (MILES DAVIS, MCCOY TYNER) and John Fumo (JAMES BROWN, BRIAN SETZER) on saxophone and trumpet, respectively, provide additional flavors. The album contains 15 cuts, including "Nostalgia", dedicated to the late great Ronnie James Dio, and a restored vintage recording of the Nat King Cole classic "There Goes My Heart", performed in 1964 by Burke's father, Arthur Lee Burke, aboard the cruise ship Riviera.
"This album has been a true labor of love for me," states Burke who first made his mark with Illinois metal band FOREVER via their eponymous 1986 debut album on Heavy Metal America Records. "Musically, I get to stretch out in all sorts of ways, from hard rock to funky stuff and beyond. I love metal, especially BLACK SABBATH, because that's what I grew up on, but someone like Bootsy Collins from PARLIAMENT/FUNKADELIC has been as much an influence on me as Geezer Butler, and I dig jazz, too. So all that is in there somewhere. This record is like one big quilt musically as well as the people that have come in and played on these songs. I've got some of my oldest friends with me, like Jack (Emrick) and Roy Z, and Phil and Gonzo Sandoval from the LIFE AFTER DEATH days, as well as players I have admired for a long time. It's an honor to have guys like Azar Lawrence and John Fumo on these tracks who've worked with some of the all-time greats, or Bob Khaleel who I've been a fan of ever since I first heard SUPER 8. And to have my dad's voice on the album makes it extra sweet for me. He instilled the love of music in me so this is a fitting tribute to him."

HEADCAT Featuring LEMMY: More New Album Details Revealed
 Lemmy Kilmister (MOTÖRHEAD), Slim Jim Phantom (THE STRAY CATS) and Danny B. Harvey (ROCKATS, 13 CATS, LONESOME SPURS), have teamed up in a high-energy, "take-no-prisoners" combo to remind the world how real rock 'n roll is supposed to fuckin sound. HEADCAT (formerly THE HEAD CAT) serves up a delicious melting pot with flavors of rockabilly, punk, blues and undeniable rock 'n' roll!
HEADCAT was formed in 2000 after recording an Elvis Presley tribute special to which all band members contributed.
Slim Jim Phantom (drums, percussion), was born in Brooklyn and listened to his parents' jazz records. At the age of ten he took up the drums although he always says that the drums chose him. He is an exceptional drummer who cemented his place among rock royalty long time ago and inspires and excites audiences worldwide.
Danny B. Harvey (guitar, piano) is Texas-born and also discovered his love for music very early. He started playing the guitar at the age of six and even got a full scholarship to study classical guitar. He developed a finger picking guitar style that's very unique and based on his idols Merle Travis and Chet Atkins but also a result of his classical-technique education.
Lemmy Kilmister (vocals, bass, harmonica) was born and raised in England and started to play the guitar at the age of sixteen. With a laughing eye he always said that he only took the guitar to impress the girls. He is an autodidact and changed early to bass as he stated he wasn't a good guitar player. After founding MOTÖRHEAD in 1975 he knows the ups and downs in the business and has reached the status of an icon all over the world.
The new HEADCAT album, "Walk The Walk...Talk The Talk", is due to be released July 5, 2011 through Niji Entertainment Group, the record label Wendy Dio and her and late husband Ronnie James Dio formed before his untimely passing.
Twelve fantastic songs for "Walk The Walk, Talk The Talk" were chosen easily. HEADCAT prepare to take over the airwaves with their first single, "American Beat". "American Beat" is a song written in the studio — Lemmy had the words and the rest came together very quickly. "I Ain't Never" is one of the songs Lemmy really likes and Danny knew it — a real country, rockabilly number, full of love and ready to take you drifting away. "Let It Rock" is one of their favorite Chuck Berry tunes — THE ROLLING STONES did it a lot in their live show in the '70s — HEADCAT plays a different version. "Something Else" is a classic Eddie Cochran — Lemmy came on stage with the STRAY CATS and jammed on it at a show in the '90s at Hammersmith Odeon so it came quite natural to take this on the record as well.

Well, you'd have to because I can't judge it, because I'm in it! (laughs) You can't judge what you're in the middle of. It's for the outsiders to judge that. It's for the fans to interpret a song, you know. You can write a song and three different people will write three different stories. I can't tell you what we bring to it. We bring what we got."

JOE SATRIANI, STEVE VAI And Friends Announce Benefit Concert For CLIFF CULTRERI
 Legendary guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai announce plans for a benefit concert supporting music industry veteran and friend, Cliff Cultreri. 'A Benefit for Cliff II" will take place on Sunday, July 10 at the House of Blues in Hollywood, California and will feature performances by both Satriani and Vai, as well as special guests, to be announced.
Cliff Cultreri is the A&R executive who "discovered" both Satriani and Vai, as well as many other popular recording artists, while working at Relativity Records. Cultreri is suffering from a host of auto-immune and connective-tissue disorders that are simultaneously attacking his immune system, a one-in-a-million occurrence that causes severe pain and physical debilitations. In 2006, Satriani and Vai joined forces for the first Cultreri benefit show. They raised money as well as attention to the devastation this disease takes out on both the patient and their family. Satriani and Vai hope to raise even more funds with this year's benefit to help Cultreri and his family's financial needs.
Cultreri was most recently VP of A&R at Koch Entertainment. During his years in the industry, Cultreri has served as A&R for a number of top names, including Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Allan Holdsworth, Billy Sheehan and TALAS, Peter Frampton, MEGADETH, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, EXODUS, ANTHRAX, DEATH, VENOM, SLASH'S SNAKEPIT, CRADLE OF FILTH, GODFLESH and many others in all genres of music. In addition, he has received 18 Grammy nominations, 13 gold and 14 platinum, and multi-platinum awards for albums on which he was the executive producer, co-producer or A&R. He won Grammys for "Song Of The Year" and "Album Of The Year" with BONE THUGS 'N HARMONY for which he served as A&R.

DUFF MCKAGAN\'S LOADED: \'Sick\' Special Edition Detailed
 Eagle Rock Entertainment, through its Armoury Records subsidiary, will re-release DUFF MCKAGAN'S LOADED's second album, "Sick", as a special edition on May 24. The specially-packaged double-disc comes complete with two additional bonus tracks on the CD — "Roll Away" and an acoustic version of "Wasted Heart" — plus a 94-minute bonus DVD featuring the band in full force from The Garage in 2008 Glasgow, Scotland. The DVD also features the band's "No More" music video and five webisodes, four on the making of "Sick" and one of the 2008 U.K. tour.
"Sick", originally released in 2009, strikes a precarious balance at the juncture of metal, punk and grunge.
Originally formed in 1998, LOADED is fronted by Grammy/American Music Award-winning songwriter/recording artist/bassist Duff McKagan — a founding member of GUNS N' ROSES and VELVET REVOLVER. ELIS Parts Ways With Singer
 Singer Sandra Schleret has left Liechtenstein-based gothic metallers ELIS. Her statement on the matter reads as follows:
"More than four years ago I joined ELIS as their new singer. Our journey was very special to me, and I think that we found one another at a time when we really needed it the most. I gave my best to honor [former ELIS singer] Sabine's [Dünser] legacy [Sabine suffered a cerebral hemorrhage on July 7, 2006 during rehearsal and passed away the following day in hospital. — Ed.] and nevertheless stay true to myself and open a new chapter together with the band.
"I am sorry to say that we have reached a point where this chapter now comes to an end.
"We had an amazing and exciting time and the guys really touched my heart. We made a great album in which I've put all of my heart and which means a lot to me.
"We sat together and talked long about everything, and we concluded that it is better to go separate ways from now on. I simply feel the need to devote myself to my own music, my aims and tasks, and the guys can not accompany me on that way because they have their own aims, ideas and expectations. I am sure that it's the right decision, because it is very important to me to dedicate myself to everything I do with full heart and soul. Now that I cannot ensure this anymore I think it's only fair to say it freely.
"ELIS will always have my full support and my friendship will guide them on their way.
"The guys have found a great new singer and so I am leaving with a good feeling, though I am very sad about the end of our time together.
"I dearly want to thank all the ELIS fans, who gave me such a warm welcome! I hope we will see each other again!"

RAVAGE: Worcester Show Recorded For Future Release
 Boston metallers RAVAGE recorded their performance last night (Thursday, May 5) at Ralph's Diner in Worcester, Massachusetts. Select tracks from the show will be featured on the band's forthcoming release, "15 Years Underground", to be made available later this year in a format yet to be determined. S
Commented RAVAGE singer Al Ravage: "We' like to thank the fantastic crowd and everyone from the Society For World Wide Ravage who ventured out to support us and to support the great five-year tradition of Metal Thursdays shows at Ralph's Diner — the longest-running and best live underground metal series of shows in the country, and probably the world.
"Not everything went on without hitches and glitches — it was a typically mad and crazy RAVAGE show, but we made it through, and despite one unfortunate incident during which a friend of ours almost had his face ripped off in the mosh pit, everyone emerged OK and unscathed for the most part, and had a great time.
"We look forward to sharing some songs from this night of metal madness with all of you in the near future."

METALLICA: We Have \'Over 700 New Riffs\' To Choose From For Next Album
 METALLICA is scheduled to enter the studio later this month to begin recording a yet-to-be-revealed new project, which guitarist Kirk Hammett described to RollingStone.com as "more a recording project than a bona fide METALLICA album."
In a brand new interview with U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich was asked to comment on the band's recording plans. "Ooh, boy. Yeah, I… What would you like me to say?" he replied. "Obviously, I can't talk about it. If I could talk about it, I would — you know me. It's… We'll see… It's something… We'll see how it plays out. If there's something, you'll be among the first to know, trust me."
When asked if the project involved "something new," Ulrich paused before replying, "Er… something new? Um… not necessarily. It depends on where you look at it from. I wouldn't call it something new. You guys will be right there when we're ready to share it with somebody. Right now there's nothing to say, and Kirk's been… er… He's been given 10 push-ups! And not kid push-ups! Kirk is doing 10 push-ups every morning 'till rehearsal."
Regarding whether there have been signs of any new material, Ulrich said, "James [Hetfield, guitar/vocals] told me in Australia that he had over 700 [new] riffs. That was slightly overwhelming. When I spoke to him yesterday, he told me that he'd been playing guitar again in the last couple of weeks. And listen, when James tunes his guitar, he comes up with three to five usable guitar riffs. It's kind of frightening. James is not allowed to play guitar without being recorded. Literally! There are also hours and hours of jams and tuning-room shindigs. After the ['Big Four'] gig [in Indio], we're gonna sit down and wade through two and half years' worth of riffs and jams and hopefully a lot of the seeds for the next METALLICA record will be in that. When you're just jamming instead of — quote — 'writing,' things have a tendency to be more organic and flow a little more. We can use the rest of the riffs for ringtones or… I don't know. METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo told Palm Springs, California radio station KCLB-FM that the band will work with producer Rick Rubin again on the follow-up to 2008's "Death Magnetic" album, Rubin's first collaboration with the group.
METALLICA decided to work with Rubin on "Death Magnetic" after making five albums over 15 years with producer Bob Rock.
Speaking about METALICA's "return" to its metal roots with "Death Magnetic", Ulrich told Metal Hammer, "Obviously, the key element in this whole thing [goes back] to playing 'Master Of Puppets' in its entirety [in 2006], which was something that 10 years ago I'd have not thought we would ever do. Revisiting 'Puppets' while we were writing the next record certainly put a stamp on 'Death Magnetic'. We'd never allowed ourselves to be inspired by our past. And Rick Rubin encouraged us to be OK with revisiting 'Ride The Lightning' and so on. Then came the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame — which brought another kind of nostalgic thing. So there are these highlights over the past 10 years, these triggering points. The side of METALLICA that we are having a lot of fun with right now is the harder, faster, more manic, more out-of-control stuff than, say, the 'Load'-'Reload' British blues stuff. Playing a lot of the full-on metal stuff like 'Dyers Eve' and 'The Shortest Straw'. We played 'The Call Of Ktulu' in Australia. Bringing out 'Trapped Under Ice' again… It's just been cool to feel comfortable about embracing that side of METALLICA."

ISIS To Release Five Posthumous Live Albums
 ISIS, who disbanded in May of last year, is set to release a series of five live albums that span the Los Angeles-by-way-of-Boston band's thirteen year career.

SHADOWSIDE: \'Inner Monster Out\' Artwork Unveiled
 Brazilian female-fronted metallers SHADOWSIDE will release their third album, "Inner Monster Out", on June 7 via SHP Records. The CD was produced, mixed and mastered at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden by Fredrik Nordström, who has previously worked with AT THE GATES, IN FLAMES, DARK TRANQUILLITY, ARCH ENEMY, SOILWORK and BRING ME THE HORIZON, among others. It features guest vocals from Björn "Speed" Strid (SOILWORK), Mikael Stanne (DARK TRANQUILLITY), and Niklas Isfeldt (DREAM EVIL).

AC/DC\'s ANGUS YOUNG Says Band Has \'Rooms Full Of Boxes Of Ideas\' For Next Album
 Darryl Sterdan of the QMI Agency conducted an exclusive Canadian interview with AC/DC guitarist Angus Young and vocalist Brian Johnson about the band's new DVD, "Live at River Plate", filmed in HD during the Australian rock legends' "Black Ice" world tour stop in Argentina in 2009. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
QMI Agency: South American audiences are known for being insane, and the one on the DVD certainly fills the bill. Does crowd response still mean anything after all these years?
Johnson: It certainly does. It gives me goose bumps some nights. You've really got to concentrate on what you're doing, because if you start looking at the crowd, you forget what you're doing.
Young: Some shows, you can feel a buzz before you even come out. It's almost like you don't have to be there. They're already having fun. And you can't hype an audience. It never works.
Johnson: I actually think if you talk to an audience too much, you start to sound like a politician or a union boss. Just shut the fuck up and start playing.
QMI Agency: How far along are you in the process of making another album?
Young: It's still early. But we're hoping that it comes quick. The only formula for when Malcolm [Young] and I write is that there's no formula. Sometimes you have boxes and boxes of ideas — in our case, rooms full of them. It's just a matter of taking the best — and probably because we're brothers, we can easily say, "That's good, that's crap, that's good... "
Johnson: I think if you put a date on something, you put yourself under pressure. As soon as somebody says "late November," it's like, "Oh fuck."
QMI Agency: You guys play the same set in the same order night after night. Doesn't that get boring after 150 shows?
Young: Well, I'm lucky. I've got a switch. I've always had it. I've got another persona. I put on the school suit and I become stronger. I become more powerful. Even my vision becomes better.
Johnson: Fucking Clark Kent, this one is.
QMI Agency: Brian, you were joking about being dead in another eight years...
Johnson: Joking? I wasn't joking!
QMI Agency: Does that mean this tour took a little more out of you than the last one did? You play a pretty physical game.
Young: Well, you get these things that happen. This tour, I had this leg thing. It wasn't a hamstring; I can't remember what it was.
The doctor said it was something like a tube. But funny enough, it was affecting me more offstage. When I went onstage it was fine.
Johnson: But it is physical. What you've got to understand is that we do what a footballer does — but we don't have a week to recuperate. And if we did, I would just sit and smoke! So instead, you keep yourself fit. I go to the gym every other day.
Because you want to keep that level up there — the last thing you want is somebody feeling sorry for you, saying, "Oh, you should have seen them before."
Thing is, I'm being physical, but Angus is doing what I'm doing, and he has to manipulate a fucking banjo at the same time.
That's like what I do — but with a rucksack on your back. To him, it's not a tough gig. But everybody else in the world thinks it is.

THE HAUNTED Frontman\'s Novel Published In Swedish
 THE HAUNTED vocalist Peter Dolving has just released his first Swedish-language novel, "Sieg Heil Svensson", via King Ink Förlag. The 145-page pocket book edition was made available on May 2. According to the official book description, "'Sieg Heil Svensson' is a statement against traditional Swedish morals and ideals. It's also an honest, revealing and riveting story of a childhood filled with abuse, violence and drugs."

When asked about what sort of family he comes from, Dolving told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine in the May 2011 issue, "I come from a working-class family raggedly torn by generations of alcoholism, painkillers, overwork, self-loathing and power abuse."
Regarding his childhood and teenage years, Dolving said, "At home I had, on one hand, a great deal of love, but on the other, it was very abusive and I was beaten as a kid. It was also a very verbally abusive environment. But honestly, except for that, I really had a good time.
"I'm a pretty enthusiastic dude and I've partied hard and played a lot, motocross riding, breaking into houses and running around with the prettiest girl in town. I wanted to have a good time and see where the action was at. It was extremely eventful."
On the topic of his reputation for being outspoken, Dolving said, "I'm always shooting my mouth off because I care; I have a heart and a brain that actually functions, which is actually a miracle. [Laughs] I am baffled that more people don't actually do it, because there's a great deal to talk about.
"What most people don't know is that I don't always believe I am in the right.
"One of the reasons I shoot my mouth off is I want to get your opinion. I wanna know what you think.
"People often believe they actually have an opinion, but they are just reacting and a reaction is not an opinion. A reaction is defending a whole value system of who you believe you are, but opinion is based on factual understanding of existing information."

MEGADETH Taps DISTURBED/SEVENDUST Producer For New Album
 MEGADETH has tapped Johnny K (full name: John Karkazis; DISTURBED, SEVENDUST, MACHINE HEAD, STAIND) to produce the band's new album, tentatively due this fall via Roadrunner Records.
Although British producer Andy Sneap — who helmed MEGADETH's 2009 album "Endgame" — was initially supposed to reteam with the band for the forthcoming CD, has was forced to pull out of the project due to scheduling conflicts. He explained in a recent interview with Ultimate-Guitar.com, "I'm doing another project that I also play guitar in called HELL and we’re doing some summer festivals this year so it kind of cut into the whole schedule that was planned with MEGADETH."
When asked about what fans can expect from MEGADETH's next album, bassist David Ellefson recently told UGO, "We are working on it now so it's a bit early to encapsulate what the final will ultimately sound like. I think we know the punch and impact we want it to have but also not be afraid to let new ideas develop, too. Just know it will be heavy, hooky, and have the trademarks you'd come to expect from us."
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine said in a recent interview that the band's new album is shaping up to be "more like 'Endgame', maybe sticking in that vein and going a little forward toward what I like."
