FORGOTTEN TOMB: "Under Saturn Retrograde" update

"Hi folks.

This morning I went to Elfo Studio and did some improvements on the final mix of the new album "Under Saturn Retrograde". Now it's finally ready and it's going to be sent to Finnvox Studios (Finland) for the mastering process, to be done most probably by mr. Mika Jussila!

Btw, I can already say this album went beyond all our expectations. The sound is the best we've ever had and the songs are the best I ever wrote. It took 4 years to release a brand-new album but you can be sure it was worth the wait! I can guarantee that this new opus will completely sweep away all the current Forgotten Tomb wannabes and pseudo-suicidal/depressed emo-like kids/bands!! It sounds so fucking powerful, emotionally violent and nihilistic that it makes me want to go outside and kill random people. Evil never sounded so fucking catchy and heavy!! This album will fuck up everyone, both lovers and haters. Naysayers will have to kiss my wop ass after this fucking album is released. Don't need to listen to other albums, this is gonna be the best release of 2011. And if you don't believe that, we're ready to take the challenge..."

"Under Saturn Retrograde" will be released sometime within the first 3 months of 2011 on Agonia Records. Graphix are currently being completed. Tracklist and final release-date will be announced in January, so stay tuned!

Herr Morbid on behalf of the FT crew.

TONY IOMMI Talks New Music, Writing \'Paranoid\' In Second Part Of New Interview

Issue 210 of the U.K.'s Total Guitar magazine (on sale December 24 - January 20) features legendary BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi on the cover and contains 11 pages of Iommi coverage, including an in-depth interview and a complete tab of "Planet Caravan". A couple of excerpts from the second part of the chat follow below.

Total Guitar: Does new music influence your playing or writing in any way?

Iommi: "I suppose there must be things you pick up but I couldn't tell you where from. I tend to play what I think. There are albums I'd like to listen to but I don't tend to get around to doing it. I don't listen to other guitar players that much. There are some great guitar players around, there really are, but again, being a great player, you've also got to be a great writer. However great you are, you're only as good as your song is. Some people tend to overplay in songs. That's my opinion. When they sound good, they probably try to show off a bit."

Total Guitar: "Paranoid" is arguably your most famous guitar riff. Legend tells it that the song was a very late addition to the album?

Iommi: "In those days, you didn't have tape recorders. You had to play riffs, keep playing them and remember them. We were recording the album ['Paranoid', 1970] and the label suddenly said, 'You don't have enough songs!' We didn't know what to do and they asked us to come up with another song. Within a few minutes I came up with the riff to 'Paranoid', played it to the other guys and they liked it, so off we went. That's how simple 'Paranoid' was — we wrote and recorded it in a day."

Total Guitar: Yet that simple song went on to become one of your biggest hits…

Iommi: "Yes, it did. We really didn't want a hit single with 'Paranoid' because in them days, to have a hit single was selling out. We didn't want a hit single and we didn't expect it to be a single. We just did it as a filler track. Most of the tracks on the album were quite long and a lot of people probably wouldn't have played them because they were too long, so 'Paranoid' was an ideal track to release, being short and up-tempo. It just took off. We were as shocked as anybody when that got in the charts. We thought, 'Bloody hell, there's all this stuff here we're trying to do musically and then something as simple as 'Paranoid' gets in the charts and everybody remembers it!'"

OZZY OSBOURNE: \'I\'m Getting A Bit Sick Of LADY GAGA\'

Ozzy Osbourne has told UsMagazine.com he is "getting a bit sick" of Lady Gaga, saying the pop star is "just too overexposed".

"I do think Lady Gaga should take a break for a little while," Osbourne told the magazine. "She's getting to be too much, and she doesn't watch the exposure of her clothes. She's just too overexposed. I like her, but I'm getting a bit sick of her. When I turn on the TV, I see her wearing another lamp shade or whatever. She needs to take a break, I think, for an hour or so."

"I love her, I think she's really, really entertaining, but she's doing a bit too much," he added. "Every day it is something else. The specialness of her is gonna get killed if she doesn't calm it down. Who manages her? Someone should whisper in her ear and say back off for a couple of months — let people gain interest back. Let people want you, you know?"

During Gaga's February 5, 2010 appearance on Ryan Seacrest's radio show (hear audio below), Seacrest played the singer an excerpt from an interview he conducted with Ozzy in which Osbourne said of Gaga, "She's very clever, very interesting. She's wacky and I like the zaniness of that woman."

According to MTV.com, this news pleased Gaga to no end. "Are you kidding? I'm the biggest BLACK SABBATH fan on Earth!" She even told Seacrest a story about how when she was a go-go dancer, one of her show-stopping numbers was to the SABBATH tune "Black Sabbath".

Lady Gaga reveals her two favorite songs to dance to: BLACK SABBATH's "Black Sabbath" and IRON MAIDEN's "Run To The Hills":

JASON BONHAM Is Hoping For DVD Release Of LED ZEPPELIN\'s 2007 Reunion Concert

Prior to hitting the stage for the "Mark And Brian Christmas Show" at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles Thursday night, drummer Jason Bonham told KLOS' Sal Cirricione that there is still a chance that we might one day see a DVD release of LED ZEPPELIN's reunion for the Ahmet Ertegun tribute concert at London's O2 Arena in December 2007, with Jason taking his father's place behind the drum kit. "Nothing is official, as yet," Bonham said. "I only know that because Robert [Plant, LED ZEPPELIN singer] had said that he'd watched it. I really do hope that it eventually will see the light of day. It's just nice to know that Robert had seen it, so I knew something, but it was nice that he rang up and said, 'Wow, it sounded great.' Fingers crossed, everybody… fingers crossed."

In a recent interview with U.K.'s Telegraph.co.uk, Plant was asked about the band's 2007 reunion concert. "I really had a wonderful time," said Plant. "It was the best LED ZEPPELIN gig since 1975."

When asked if he would do it again, Plant replied, "I don't think so. You've got to have a lot in common with the people you're working with at this time in your life. Everything has to move on and forward, in all relationships.

"I know that bands that haven't put out a record for 10 years are playing to 20,000 people a night. But that's not the achievement. The achievement is to knock yourself out. It's a very selfish thing. The tail must never wag the dog."

LIVING SACRIFICE: \'Overkill Exposure\' Video Released

"Overkill Exposure", the new video from the veteran Christian metal act LIVING SACRIFICE, can be viewed below (courtesy of AOL's Noisecreep). The clip's director, Michael Dalton, told Noisecreep about the video, "As [vocalist Bruce Fitzhugh] explained 'Overkill Exposure' to me, he wanted to make sure I understood the song dealt with some dark content. The message he was portraying on this song was that the dark/evil things we expose ourselves to open us up to more darkness and evil ... The more time I spend watching episodes of murder mysteries, the more I will begin to be opened up to the evil in the world around, and even in myself."

Dalton continued, "When I set out to make this video, I wanted to make sure nothing was pretty and everything had a very eerie feel. What we ended up getting out of that was a story of a man being filled with images of substance abuse, suicide and murder, all heralded in by a raging LIVING SACRIFICE.

"This song hits like a freight train, and the video may require a couple watches to really grasp all of it. But what I hope the viewer walks away with is that we see the lines blurred between fiction and reality for our character — and that maybe if we look close enough, we can see our media intake doing the same for ourselves. "

"Overkill Exposure" comes off LIVING SACRIFICE's latest full-length album, "The Infinite Order", which sold around 2,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 4 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

SAXON Frontman Hangs Out With LADY GAGA; Photo Available

British heavy metal legends SAXON are seeking a suitable record label to release the band's new album, which is currently being recorded. The follow-up to 2009's "Into The Labyrinth" (SPV/Steamhammer), will feature at least one special guest.

In other news, SAXON frontman Biff Byford met Lady Gaga backstage at the American pop singer's recent concert in England. Byford writes on SAXON's official web site, "Got passes to see Lady Gaga for my daughter, but she couldn't go so I went with our agent, Steve. As we walked backstage, we met the manager of heavy metal DJ Lady Starlight and a couple of members of the support act SEMI-PRECIOUS WEAPONS and they invited us back to the dressing room for a drink. As we drained our glasses, we said thanks and say hello to Lady Gaga from us.

"The show was great, [and] we went off to the backstage bar for another drink. Suddenly Lady Starlight came in and said that Lady Gaga would like to meet us. Tthen we had a fantastic 50 minutes with Miss Gaga, who is a massive heavy rock fan and SAXON fan talking everything rock. She's a great lady and it was a great privilege to meet her."

SAXON had a busy year, which included performing a blinding set at Download in June, where to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first Monsters of Rock show, they played their legendary "Wheels of Steel" album in its entirety for the first time ever.

As is becoming an almost yearly custom for SAXON, they will perform at the 02 Shepherds Bush Empire in London on St. Georges Day, April 23, which promises to be a loud, rocking celebration of England's patron saint's day.

SAXON's last album, "Into The Labyrinth", sold around 1,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD debuted at No. 29 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. The CD was recorded at the Twilight Hall in Krefeld, Germany, under the direction of Charlie Bauerfeind.

HARDROCK ALLSTARS: Promotional Video Posted Online

Love (LOVE/HATE) and Pete Holmes (BLACK 'N BLUE), has uploaded a two-minute promotional video. Check it out below. According to a press release, the band "plays a refreshing mix of hard rock, pop and metal from the '70s and '80s. They have paid meticulous attention to the detail of the songs, and have a 'take-no-prisoners' attitude to their live performances."

"We have taken our time in selecting classic hard rock songs that have not been over played by other bands and also mixed in some of the biggest hits from our personal bands; current and past," Croucier said. "This is an authentic lineup of seasoned veterans, the kind of band that you would have seen in the early '80s playing the Hollywood clubs of the day and we perform on stage like everything depends on it."

HARDROCK ALLSTARS made its live debut at Club Vodka's eight-year celebration at the Key Club in Hollywood, California. "This being our first time on stage, from my point of view, we tore the roof off the place," St. James said. "If this is any indication of what's to come, get ready for an ass-kicking."

MOTÖRHEAD\'s Phil Campbell On Lemmy Movie Film Makers - \"What A Bunch Of C*nts\"; Says Band\'s Next CD May Be Covers Album

Radio Metal has issued an interview with MOTÖRHEAD's Phil Campbell. Notably, Phil strongly expresses his discontent towards Lemmy: 49% Motherf**ker, 51% Son Of A Bitch film makers:

Q: You and Mikkey rarely appear in the movie. How come? You’ve been his bandmates for so long…

A: "Speak to the movie people! That’s what we’re pissed off about. They spent three years following me around and Mikkey around, all of us, you know, three fucking years and the biggest shot they got of me is laying down to sleep in the bus with Familly Guy on the TV! (Laughs) The movie’s about Lem but it’s really insulting to us. What a bunch of cunts!"

On an other subject, Phil reveals that the next Motörhead album might be a cover album: "I had the idea to do an acoustic album. We might also do a cover album. Our next album might be this album of cover. We’ve done loads of these. We’ve done 'Cat Scratch Fever', we’ve done 'Shoot ‘Em Down' by TWISTED SISTER, 'Hellraiser' by OZZY, 'God Save The Queen' by the SEX PISTOLS, we got 'Rockaway Beach' by the RAMONES and more. But this album is just an idea for the future, we don’t know yet what’s going to be on it."

Phil also talks about the book he just began to write: "I’m doing my book at the moment; it’s going to contain a lot of funny stories. It’s a book about all the fucking unbelievable shit that goes down on the road ! (Laughs) Funny stuff, yeah. It’s not going to be about my life’s story, that’s boring! But we don’t know yet when it’s going to be released. We’re starting it now but I guess we can expect it to be out in about three years."

AGNOSTIC FRONT Completes Work On New Album

New York hardcore legends AGNOSTIC FRONT have finished recording their new album at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida for a March 4, 2011 European and March 22, 2011 North American release via Nuclear Blast Records. The as-yet-untitled CD (the previously announced title "My Life, My Way" has now apparently been scrapped) features 13 new powerful and anthemic songs laid down by Erik Rutan (MADBALL, GOATWHORE, CANNIBAL CORPSE, etc.) under the watchful guide of producer Freddy Cricien of MADBALL. The record was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (SEPULTURA, SUFFOCATION, UNEARTH) in New Windsor, New York.

Commented AGNOSTIC FRONT vocalist Roger Miret: "After all is said and done, we are amazed on how great our new record turned out! It's by far our catchiest record to date and it's going to make everyone want to sing along for sure. Freddy killed it on the production end, just capturing that hardcore vibe that only he can get out of AGNOSTIC FRONT. The boys all put nothing but passion into the songs, and Erik Rutan just dialed it all in to make AGNOSTIC FRONT sound as natural and as organic as ever. This one will definitely be a classic once it's heard worldwide!"

VELVET REVOLVER Zeroing In On \'Younger And Stronger\' New Singer

According to The Pulse Of Radio, VELVET REVOLVER is apparently circling a new vocalist to finally replace singer Scott Weiland, more than two years after the band fired the STONE TEMPLE PILOTS frontman over his erratic behavior. Drummer Matt Sorum told The Pulse Of Radio that after several more auditions the group has finally zeroed in on someone. "We got somebody that we're really liking a lot," he said. "We can't make the announcement yet because we're 'dating,' you know. We haven't consummated the relationship, we haven't sat down this gentleman and made the agreement together, but we're very excited and I think this could be a real turning point for the band. And I know it's been like this long-winded 'oh, VELVET REVOLVER this, VELVET REVOLVER that,' you know — we're tired of it, believe me. But we don't have the ability to just jump out there with any singer. We can't do it."

Sorum added that the potential new singer was a "known guy" who was "younger and stronger."

OMEN Parts Ways With Singer, Announces Replacement

Long-running U.S. metallers OMEN have parted ways with singer George Call (also a member of the power metal band ASKA).

Commented OMEN mainman/guitarist Kenny Powell: "I loved George singing for OMEN [and] I have great respect for him. However, I made a commitment to OMEN and myself three years ago to try and do the final three OMEN records equal to the first three. I was 53 at the time, I am now 56 and want to accomplish every thing possible before my skills start to diminish. At this rate I will get my first social security check before I finish a new OMEN record. It is simply not acceptable for me to wait any longer. . . At this point in time I must put OMEN above anything else.

"The new record is finally moving forward, and the great thing for me is that it is going to be even better than I thought possible. Matt Story is doing the vocals. He was the person that I wanted all along, [but] it was not possible because of other commitments. He has a great voice and has time to do the OMEN CD now. He has been here every time I have asked and busted his ass to three and four in the morning without a single complaint.

"I honestly feel that 'Hammer Damage' will shock the metal world.

"Look for the new CD by early spring, and then we can start touring again. I think Greece should be the first stop!"

OMEN in 2008 released a live album, "Into the Arena: 20 Years Live", which contained previously unreleased recordings of the band's original lineup.

MASS - New DVD Slated For 2011 Release, A Very Merry X-MASS EP A Huge Success For Toys For Tots Foundation

On December 1st, 2010, Dunbar Entertainment released A Very Merry X-MASS EP, an exclusive two song Christmas CD featuring 'Jingle Bell Rock' and 'Grown Up Christmas List'. All proceeds from the sales of the CD were used to purchase thousands of dollars of toys that were donated to the Toys For Tots Foundation and were dropped off at various locations the past few weeks. The biggest drop off was today December 20th at the Burlington, MA Central Street Fire Department. Once the band learned of the very horrible act of stolen toys that took place at the local Toys For Tots Warehouse in Burlington, MA.

MASS have had numerous accomplishments over the years, but most notably is the selling of over a half million albums. In 1985, Mass was signed to RCA records and released the album, New Birth. The single, 'Do You Love Me', was number one for over six weeks at many radio stations along the east coast. The video for that single was also in rotation on MTV and hit the Billboard charts. During the 1980’s, Mass went on to release Take You Home and Voices In The Night, which was produced by Michael Sweet of STRYPER. These albums have been re-released on Retrospect Records. In July 2007, Mass released their comeback album, Crack Of Dawn on Escape Music.

2010 has been a very productive year for the band. In May, the band released its new studio album Sea Of Black via Escape Music. The band played several successful shows in support of Sea of Black, most notably the M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, MA along side such classic rock legends as the SCORPIONS, CINDERELLA, Vince Neil of MÖTLEY CRÜE, and KIX. Mass also performed to a sold-out crowd at the legendary Regent Theater in their home state of Massachusetts, which was filmed for a DVD to be released by Dunbar Entertainment in early 2011. Most recently, Retroactive Records released the band’s long-lost A&M Records release, Fighter and also reissued the band’s 84 Unchained EP.

ARTILLERY - New Album Title, Song-Titles Revealed

Artillery, one of the best thrash metal bands around, is currently working in Medley Studios, Denmark on the follow-up to their highly acclaimed album “When Death Comes” (2009). The new material entitled “My Blood” will be released by Metal Mind Productions in March 2011.

So far Artillery recorded 14 songs - 10 brand new tracks, a remake of “Ain´t Giving In” (from 1992´s "Mind Factory" demo) and 3 bonus tracks which are all new versions of timeless classics from the 1985’s album “Fear of Tomorrow” ("The Eternal War", "The Almighty", "Show Your Hate").

Soren Adamsen, Artillery’s vocalist, revealed a few titles of the new tracks. He also described the lyrics for those tracks:

1. “The Great Satan” – it’s a song about the decadence of the western society and evil empires all around the world.
2. “Monster” - a song about serial killers. None in particular.
3. “Death is an Illusion” - a track about life and death.
4. “The End of Eternity”- dealing with depression and thoughts about starting a new life.
5. “Mi Sangre” – it’s about my son. It’s a 7 and a half-minute song, almost an epic endeavor.
6. “Concealed in the Dark” - two words - David Sharp. Go search for it on the internet, it’s an interesting story.
7. “Dark Days” – it’s about the change in the climate.
8. “Warrior Blood” - a song about fighting. Soldiers, prize-fighters, people who are struggling with deadly diseases.

What can we expect from the musical side of the new album? Guitarist Michael Stützer says: “The sound is a bit more heavy than it was on ‘When Death Comes’. The music is a mixture of our previous albums ‘When Death Comes’ and ‘By Inheritance’, with a slight touch of ‘Terror Squad’ and ‘Fear of Tomorrow’ with some oriental pieces.” Producer Søren Andersen added: "There is an almost rock´n roll feeling in some of the songs".

The release date of "My Blood" is set for 9th March 2011 in Japan (via Kings Records), 21st March 2011 in Europe and 5th April 2011 in USA (via MVD). Full details to be announced soon.

Back in December of 2008, AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry recorded a cover version of "Run Rudolph Run". This year you can listen to a remix of that recording.

"This is my favorite Christmas song and one I've always wanted to cover," Perry said. "I was in the studio working anyway and when I couldn't find my copy of the CD, I decided to just give the song a try. Four hours later, we had the song and decided to give it away.

"I hope everyone enjoys it and this makes the holidays a little happier this year."

Perry recorded "Run Rudolph Run" at his Boston home studio with Boneyard studio engineer Paul Santo on drums and piano on the track.
