DESTRUCTION: First \'Day Of Reckoning\' Trailer Released
 The first video trailer for "Day Of Reckoning", the new album from German thrash metal veterans DESTRUCTION, can be seen below. The CD will be released on February 18, 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records. The first limited edition of the album will not feature the band's logo on the booklet while the vinyl version and second pressing of the CD will show a red DESTRUCTION logo on it.

QUBE\'s \'Incubate\' To Receive European Release In January
 Polish progressive metal/rock outfit QUBE has signed a deal with Electrum Production for the European release of its second album, "Incubate". The CD was recorded early this year in Mantis Studio and was released in Poland in the second part of 2010. The album received very positive feedback and the band decided to present its music to wider audience. Thanks to Twilight Vertrieb distribution, "Incubate" will be released Europe-wide on January 21, 2011.
Originating from Lublin, this five-piece mixes progressive and technical elements with hardcore, energetic nu-metal, psychodelic artrock atmosphere, complex shapes and sometimes even funk.

Former NILE Drummer Launches \'Raw Rock And Roll\' Band PSYCHO SPOON
 Pete Hammoura, ex-drummer and founding member of the South Carolina death metal band NILE, has launched a new project called PSYCHO SPOON. The group, whose musical style is described by Pete as "raw rock and roll [and] not death metal," is preparing to hit the studio with producer Karl Sanders (NILE guitarist/vocalist) to begin recording its debut CD for a 2011 release.
PSYCHO SPOON was formed in the fall of 2009 by longtime friends and musical collaborators Rick Ballenger (vocals) and Hammoura. They had a clear vision of what they wanted to accomplish with this band, and that was to play rock and roll from the heart. They immediately went to work auditioning players. The lineup was soon rounded out by Gene Jewell (guitar) and Justin Bond (bass). Collaboration ensued and five songs were written in a short period of time, at which point the band entered the studio to lay down the tracks. To perform live shows, the band knew they needed a second guitarist to fill out the sound — this is where Matt Nations stepped into the picture.
PSYCHO SPOON's goal as a band is to continue writing songs and playing to live audiences as often as possible because they are very much a live audience band. You'll be able to tell that they love what they do from the moment they hit the stage. Their purpose is "to lay down pure, live rock and roll!"

WHITESNAKE: New Album Title, Artwork Unveiled
 Legendary rock band WHITESNAKE has set "Forevermore" as the title of its new album, tentatively due at the end of March 2011 via Frontiers Records. Check out the cover artwork below.
Regarding the CD's title, WHITESNAKE mainman David Coverdale stated, "Don't forget, 'tis ONE word. Otherwise it sounds like a bleedin' Valentine's Day card, which it ain't!"

TEN To Release Stormwarning Album In February
 Frontiers Records has announced the release of TEN’s ninth all original studio album, entitled Stormwarning, on February 18th, 2011 in Europe and February 15th in North America.
Turmoil is a word that could well describe what life has been like in the Ten camp over the past few years. Going through several line-up changes and a self imposed exiles from the scene, Ten for many seemed to be a name that wrote glorious pages in the darkest period of melodic hard rock, failing to keep the flame alive when the momentum was raising again.
Still, Ten singer and principal songwriter, Gary Hughes knew he had another ace up his sleeve and decided to play it safe. For the new album Stormwarning he wanted first to have the right line-up and he enlisted the services of Neil Fraser on lead guitars and Mark Sumner on bass, in addition to long-time members John Helliwell on guitar and Paul Hodson on keyboards.
Then the masterful Mark Zonder (FATES WARNING) guested to take care of all the drum duties and Gary made sure that none other than Dennis Ward (PINK CREAM 69 and producer of ANGRA, PLACE VENDOME, SUNSTORM, EDENBRIDGE among others) would mix and produce the album. Finally he made contact with the original designer of the Spellbound and Babylon covers, the renowned Spanish fantasy artist Luis Royo, to recreate the perfect graphics for the new album.
In the summer 2010 with all the groundwork done, Ten finally started the recording of Stormwarning, an album that, like the name itself tells, is an inspiration for tales of glory, war, and death and of course love. Any rock fan who digs the sound that RAINBOW carved out with Difficult To Cure or that WHITESNAKE brought to success with 1987 and that GARY MOORE exalted with albums like Final Frontier or Run For Cover needs to have this record in their collection. And even for the well acquainted, Ten re-ignite memories of The Name of The Rose and Spellbound.

CEREBRAL BORE Signs With EARACHE RECORDS
 Earache Records has announced the signing of Scottish death metal band CEREBRAL BORE to a worldwide recording deal.
CEREBRAL BORE is a young, talented group which formed in 2006 in Glasgow, Scotland and has built up a formidable reputation for its extreme brand of death metal.
The band is comprised of frontwoman Simone "Som" Pluijmers, a 19-year old from the Netherlands with an inexplicable talent for brutal death metal vocals, along with guitarist Paul McGuire, bassist Kyle Rutherford and drummer Allan McDibet.
CEREBRAL BORE has issued the following statement: "It's hard to describe how proud we are to sign with Earache Records. Being at the same starting blocks as bands like CARCASS, MORBID ANGEL, DECAPITATED and NAPALM DEATH is something that we have always worked hard since the beginning to achieve, and finally being at this point with the band, to us is just phenomenal.
"Going from having just one EP to having our debut album on a major death metal label used to be something we dreamed about, and it's hard to believe that it's actually happening! So we can't wait to get out on tour in 2011 and promote our debut album under the Earache banner."
CEREBRAL BORE has toured relentlessly around the globe, with appearances at such popular death metal festivals as Neurotic Deathfest in the Netherlands, Obscene Extreme in the Czech Republic and the Central Illinois Metalfest in the USA, as well as performing in countries such as Israel, Russia and more. WEEDEATER: New Album Details Unveiled
 After over two incredibly action/drama/injury/tour-soaked years of constant insanity, North Carolina sludge crusaders WEEDEATER have completed their long-delayed, yet more anticipated-than-ever, fourth full-length release. The intoxicating ten-track brutalizer, dubbed "Jason... The Dragon", has been scheduled for worldwide release on March 1, 2011 via Southern Lord Recordings.
After over a year of literally crippling injuries to all three of WEEDEATER's members hitting the headlines, including infamous classics like "Dixie Dave blew off part of his foot with a shotgun," or "Keko tore his meniscus this week," and "Shep broke his goddamn pinkie on tour" or even "Dixie nearly died in his ninja-scuba assassin Halloween costume" and more, the band still forged on through these blows for multiple tours — several regional and national headlining tours, as well as supporting DOWN and the MELVINS — to finally complete this record. Although delayed by eight months, the haggard trio infiltrated Steve Albini's Electrical Audio Studio in Chicago this past September to pound out "Jason... The Dragon".
As with their Southern Lord debut, "God Luck And Good Speed", the "Jason..." album was mastered by the legendary John Golden at Golden Studios in southern California, unearthing the true grit that this band dumps forth. With no argument to be had, "Jason..." is by far WEEDEATER's most varied and organic recording to date, taking their caustic, chest-collapsing, resin-coated ultrasludge to new otherworldly new realms of delirium just by taking it all closer to home, stripping their tonal onslaught down to acoustic bass at times, perfectly infusing a bit of banjo and piano, and even utilizing some new vocal tactics. Diehards fear not; this IS still WEEDEATER. It's just WEEDEATER at their finest hour... yet.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD Manager: Plan Was Always For PORTNOY To Play With Band Only Through 2010
 AVENGED SEVENFOLD manager Larry Jacobson has told LA Weekly's "West Coast Sound" blog that there is no correlation between drummer Mike Portnoy's departure from the band and the cancelation of the group's participation in the Australian Soundwave festival. He writes, "The plan had always been for Mike Portnoy to play with the band through 2010. Nothing changed there but it was confusing [because] Mike gave interviews suggesting he may be touring with the band beyond 2010. There will be another drummer behind the kit for the band's 'Nightmare After Christmas' tour [in January/February] as well as for the many other dates around the world that are underway into 2011 and beyond. As for Australia, the timing is completely unrelated. If you've read any of the juvenile and public attacks by the [Soundwave] promoter, you can probably figure out why the band had legitimate doubts they could work with him to be able to put on the professional show their fans expect. They're not in Australia every day so each tour needs to be the best the band has to offer."
AVENGED SEVENFOLD issued a statement yesterday explaining that "we know we are not ready to add another permanent member of AVENGED SEVENFOLD [following last year's passing of drummer Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan]. We don't know if we will ever be. But if we do, it will only be with someone who is not only a brilliant drummer, but also someone we've gotten to know well on the road and off, and who you the fans have had a chance to get to know, and hopefully accept. In other words, in this family, we take these steps together, band and our extended fan family."
The group added, "Mike and the band agree that can't be him. Why? Long before there was an AVENGED SEVENFOLD, there were members of this band who looked up to Mike and, in Jimmy's case, learned a lot from watching Mike play. He is a brilliant writer, producer and, of course, drummer. Because of that, the world and we would always see it as AVENGED SEVENFOLD with Mike Portnoy."
AVENGED SEVENFOLD is slated to hit the road in the U.S. next month as part of the "Nightmare After Christmas" tour, along with STONE SOUR and HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD.
James Sullivan, AVENGED SEVENFOLD's founding drummer, was found dead in his California home last December 28 of a fatal mixture of drugs and alcohol.

CARPATHIAN FOREST Bassist\'s MISANTROF Releases Third \'Holy F**king ANTIChristmas\' Compilation
 Carrying on the tradition that it started in 2008, Norway's "anti"-label, Misantrof, has, for the third year, released its "anti"-Christmas compilation. Titled "Holy Fucking ANTIChristmas Volume III", the album takes an irreverent poke and what Christmas has become. This year's compilation contains 15 tracks, of varying genres, all loosely based on the various facets of Christmas, and which have either been newly written and recorded, or adapted, especially for album. Like all Misantrof releases the 15-track "Holy Fucking ANTIChristmas Volume III" is available for free download, together with cover art and information about the bands involved, at this location.
CARPATHIAN FOREST bassist Daniel Vrangsinn, who founded Misantrof in 2007, heads what he calls the "anti" label, which he set up as an alternative way for bands to release music. By making Misantrof entirely non-profit and allowing the bands to keep all the rights to their music and control all decisions regarding their releases, he has offered bands a viable alternative to the established labels, especially at time when few, if any, are willing to take risks with new bands.
Regarding the "ANTIChristmas" albums, Vrangsinn explains: "Christmas has now lost whatever religious significance it had to all but a small handful of people, and it has become an orgy of exploitation where everyone is encouraged to spend money they probably don't have. We just want to give everyone something for free, and hopefully at the same time make people sit back and realise that there are ways to have fun that do not require vast sums of money. All the bands featured have allowed us to use their music for free, even paying their own studio costs — it's a 55-minute reality check on Christmas, from 15 different artists, and made for pure enjoyment and cost-free self-indulgence."

TOMMY LEE\'s Acoustic Cover Of \'Home Sweet Home\' Featured On \'Californication\' Soundtrack
 Those familiar with the hit Showtime series "Californication" are undoubtedly excited for the new season to air on January 9 and now here's another reason to be excited... the season 4 soundtrack.
On January 11, Arrival Records/Scion Music Group will release "Season 4: Music From the Showtime Series Californication", which will include tracks that bring to life many of this seasons storylines, as well as great music and covers from artsits you know and love.
On "Californication", David Duchovny stars as TV's favorite anti-hero, Hank Moody — a hedonistic writer who struggles to raise his teenage daughter Becca, while still carrying a torch for her mother/his ex-girlfriend. This season, Becca joins an all-girl rock band fronted by Pearl, played by singer and actress Zoë Kravitz, called QUEENS OF DOGTOWN.
QUEENS OF DOGTOWN recreates three classic rock tracks for the soundtrack — ALICE IN CHAINS' "Would?", MISFITS' "Last Caress" and SKID ROW's "I Remember You", with all vocals by Zoë Kravitz that must be heard to be believed. PENTAGRAM Comments On METAL BLADE Deal
 As BLABBERMOUTH.NET first reported on Novemeber 2, Metal Blade Records has now officially announced the signing of the legendary doom metal act PENTAGRAM. The band, now entering its 40th year anniversary, will release a full-length album titled "Last Rites", in the spring of 2011 featuring all-new tracks, with a DVD to follow in late 2011.
The doomed duo of Bobby Liebling and Victor Griffin has united once again to celebrate the 40th anniversary of PENTAGRAM! Spring 2011 will bear witness to the revered pair's first studio album together in 17 years. Only days out of the sessions, the band will unleash these newborn heavies live! Monstrous new riffs and more will be freed the nights of January 6, at Europa in NYC and January 7, at Club Hell in Providence, Rhode Island. Also playing live with the band will be PENTAGRAM alumni and current full-time bass player Greg Turley with Tim Tomaselli (PLACE OF SKULLS) filling in on drums.
Bobby Liebling comments on working with Metal Blade Records: "I reflect on how PENTAGRAM is coming into its 40th year and how it finally feels like we are entering into the major leagues. Cult rock legend Bobby Liebling has been churning out genre-defining and highly admired hard rock/doom metal for over 40 years with PENTAGRAM. Within its first decade, the band is largely regarded as co-creating two subgenres of hard rock — heavy metal at the birth of the 1970s and doom towards its death.
PENTAGRAM's classic "Death Row"-era line-up and the band's debut album, "Relentless" (1984), was inducted into Decibel magazine's Hall of Fame in 2010. Guitarist Victor Griffin's invention of the "Drop B" tuning is first heard here. This heavy-handed hallmark went on to influence handfuls of players and defined a subgenre. These numbers recently included Jack White and his band THE DEAD WEATHER who cover "Forever My Queen" (Liebling) live. It was also played on late night talk shows worldwide and even released as a single on White's own Third Man Records.

NIGHTWISH To Reveal \'Future Plans\' In January
 Keyboardist/mainman Tuomas Holopainen of Finnish/Swedish symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH has issued the following year-end update:
"The year is coming to an end and we're all getting ready for a hell of a rollercoaster ride of 2011!
"This past year has been a very fruitful one, if also a mind-filling one, from writing the songs for the album to come, rehearsing them in the memorable summer camp in Röskö, recording the demo, recording the actual album (drums, guitars and basses already done), and planning the year ahead. The summer was also blessed with the births of two new members for the NIGHTWISH family, Jukka's ['Julius' Nevalainen, drums] daughter Lara and Anette's [Olzon, vocals] son Nemo. WITHIN TEMPTATION Singer Says Newly Released Track Isn\'t Representative Of Forthcoming Album
 Sharon Den Adel, vocalist of Dutch symphonic metallers WITHIN TEMPTATION, says that "Where Is The Edge", the new track which the band premiered just last week, doesn't showcase the full spectrum of the forthcoming concept album, "The Unforgiving", and promises fans a deeper look at what's to come.
Commented Sharon: "Obviously, the discussions about the new album have really been set on fire by 'Where Is The Edge'.
"But for the people who liked it, we're afraid that it's really not revealing much of what's to come…
"From the moment we started writing this album, we felt it was time for change, to take a bigger step in our musical development then we've done with the last two albums. But instead of getting inspiration from unknown territories, we've found them in our musical roots, the metal, rock and even pop hits of the late '80s [and] beginning 90s.
"Now, we can tell you about the new songs, but the only way to explain it and for you to judge it, is to hear it.
"A fact is that 'The Unforgiving' is the album with the most diversity between the songs then ever before. Containing the heaviest riffs we've ever played, lots of uptempo moments, guitar solos, but at the same time also some of the most catchy stuff ever. We definitely didn't want to say goodbye to the filmic orchestral material, but there are more reasons for that…
"We really can't wait to release this album as it belongs in your hands, but, unfortunately, we all need to wait until the end of March.
"Now here's the good news: to endure the waiting, soon we'll release 'The Unforgiving' video trailer containing parts of different songs, the music videos and… (more about this third ingredient later)."

ALTER BRIDGE Vocalist Confirms He Will Sing On Next SLASH Album
 ALTER BRIDGE singer Myles Kennedy is currently pulling double duty, touring with that group while also fronting the touring band for VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash. Although Kennedy sang just two tracks on Slash's self-titled solo debut, he confirmed to The Pulse Of Radio that Slash would like him to sing everything on the guitarist's next solo effort. "It's very flattering," he said. "I think there's kind of a cool thing we got going. We really enjoy working with each other. I know they're auditioning singers now for VELVET REVOLVER, so I don't know if they find the right guy if that'll affect things timing-wise. I'm not really sure. But the plan right now is that yeah, we'll do a record together down the road."

KILLTRIBE: \'FE4R\' Video Released
 "FE4R", the new video from German metallers KILLTRIBE, can be viewed below. The clip was filmed in March at Musikbunker in Aachen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. The song comes off the band's debut EP, "I Am Human", which was released in November 2009 via Big Deal Records. SLAYER Frontman Done With Headbanging
 SLAYER frontman and bassist Tom Araya is done with headbanging so says bandmate, guitarist Kerry King. Araya underwent back surgery at the end of January. Known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing, Araya began experiencing back problems while on the band's Australian/New Zealand/Japanese tour in October 2009. In spite of his rapidly increasing pain and discomfort, he carried on with the tour, but immediately upon returning home saw an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed a Cervical Radiculopathy. Earlier this year Araya underwent an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, which is a relatively routine practice and the recovery rate is excellent.

COLDWORKER Begins Recording New Album
 COLDWORKER — the Örebro, Sweden-based "blasting" death metal band consisting of current and former/current members of such acts as NASUM, RELENTLESS, RUIN and PHOBOS — has entered Soundlab Studios in the group's hometown to begin recording its third album for an early 2011 release. COLDWORKER drummer Anders Jakobson states, "We're doing the same sort of recording procedure this time as with [2008'a] 'Rotting Paradise' — the drums will be tracked in Soundlab, the guitars in Ülgnor Studios with Johan Berglund, the bass at my home studio A Noble Home and the vocals at Coldworker Studios. We have a few days booked for the drums now and will do the rest early next year. Dan Swanö [EDGE OF SANITY, BLOODBATH, NIGHTINGALE] will mix it all at Unisound. We will record 14 songs where one is a cover to be put on the Japanese edition of the album. Some songtitles are 'The Reprobate', 'Flesh World', 'Monochrome Existance', 'Becoming the Stench' and 'The Phantom Carriage'."
The band adds, ""We've been working a long time on these songs and needless to say we are very proud of them and they are definitively 'the next level' for COLDWORKER."

NEURONIA: \'Slipping Into Oblivion\' Video Released
 "Slipping Into Oblivion", the new video from Warsaw, Poland-based metallers NEURONIA, can be viewed below. The song comes off the band's latest album, "Follow The White Mouse", which came out in March. The clip was filmed on October 19 at Warsaw's Metal Cave club and was produced by the TwojTeledysk.pl company. The video was directed by Wojciech "Thom" Holysz, guitarist and founding member of the death metal horde EMPTY PLAYGROUND. According to a press release, "the clip follows the subjects of losing one's identity in a big city, the rat race and consumption-centered way of life."
Commented NEURONIA singer and lyricist Maciek "Tektur" Nawrot: "In a big city, life often goes in an inhumanly fast pace — career and making money become the most important things, everything else is just background. People often make the wrong choices in these circumstances, often very dramatic ones, then they lose themselves and all the really important things — their identity, thoughts about their loved ones, their roots, who they really are. This song is a reminder that says: never forget who you are, about your dignity and your dreams."
NEURONIA recently inked a licensing deal with Ukraine's Metal Scrap Records. The label will release "Follow The White Mouse" in the Eastern European market and will also take care of worldwide distribution through its partner companies. NEURONIA will also release a new four-track EP — most likely in February-March 2011. The band has stopped all concert activities until the end of 2010 to concentrate on preparing new material for this record.

MARIONETTE Begins Mixing New Album, Inks New Publishing Deal
 Gothenburg, Sweden-based metal sextet MARIONETTE has inked a worldwide publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music Scandinavia (MESHUGGAH, SABATON). The band is currently mixing its as-yet-untitled third album at Studio PH in Gothenburg with Pontus Hjelm (DEAD BY APRIL). Songtitles seto appear on the CD include "Something Forgotten", "Remember Your Name", "Stand In Line" and "Lights Out".

NIGHTWISH, SONATA ARCTICA, TERÄSBETONI, KIUAS Members Perform Finnish Christmas Songs
 RASKAS JOULU (Heavy Christmas) — a Finnish project which celebrates Christmas and its music tradition mixed with metal — completed its annual tour this past weekend with three shows at Tavastia in Helsinki. Two concerts were held on December 18 — an afternoon all-ages show and an evening performance. Because the evening concert was sold out weeks in advance, an additional gig was held on Sunday, December 19.

CRYPTOPSY, Ex-NILE Members Join Forces In TEMPLE OF THIEVES
 Flo Mounier (CRYPTOPSY) has joined forces with former NILE members Chief Spires and John Ehlers in a brand new project called TEMPLE OF THIEVES. According to Spires, "It's definitely different than anything we've done in the past. We wanted to step outside our boundaries and do something that we enjoy listening to."
He added, "I know we'll probably get blasted because it's not death metal. No worries — we can take it — and I'm sure there's people out there that will enjoy it."

AMORAL To Enter Studio In January
 Finnish metallers AMORAL will enter Sound Supreme Studios in Hämeenlinna, Finland on January 30 to begin recording their fifth album for a late spring release. Guitarist Ben Varon recently described the band's new material as "all over the place style-wise, from the chillest acoustic stuff to fast death metal, with lots of solid, hard-rockin' metal in between."
In other news, AMORAL will play a one-off show at Nosturi in Helsinki on January 15 as a tribute to the band's late friend and lighting technician Lauri Mailasalo.
Commented the group: "Lauri passed away this year as a result of leukemia. Needless to say, the whole band was crushed by the news as Lauri had been part of the AMORAL crew almost since the very beginning. He will be deeply missed."
Also scheduled to appear at Nosturi are KIUAS and RYTMIHAIRIO. All proceeds from the show will be donated to Sylva Ry, an organization of parents with children who have leukemia.
AMORAL earlier in the year parted ways with guitarist Silver Ots and replaced him with Valtteri Hirvonen. | 0 | |

SYMFONIA: Video Footage From The Studio
 SYMFONIA, the new melodic metal project featuring former members of HELLOWEEN, STRATOVARIUS, ANGRA and SONATA ARCTICA, entered Studiomega in Varberg, Sweden on November 25 to begin recording 12 songs for its debut album, which is scheduled for a March 25, 2011 release.
