FORGOTTEN TOMB Check In From The Studio - \"We Aren\'t Making A Glam Rock Album Here!\"
Italy's FORGOTTEN TOMB have started the recording sessions for the long-anticipated brand-new studio album, Under Saturn Retrograde, to be released by Agonia Records in early 2011. Founding vocalist/guitarist Herr Morbid has issued the following update:
"We started setting up the drums and placing all the microphones on Friday morning, the August 27th. We placed something like 20 microphones on the drum-kit this time, just to make sure we can get the right sound, heh! Asher started playing and recording in late morning and then after lunch through all the afternoon, 'til 7:00pm. He recorded following a metronome and I played a rhythm guitar line in the background, just to make sure everything work out right. The process went definitely smooth and we managed to track drums for five songs out of nine. On August 28th , we started the sessions in the morning and we tracked down the other four songs in less than six hours. Again, the process was quite easy, though we took a bit more time for the title track since it's rythmically a bit more complex than the other songs and it's divided in two parts. At the end of the day, I also recorded some tambourine for a song ('The Cult Docet') and some cowbell as well - everyone knows my crush for Southern rock, heh. But don't worry, we aren't making a glam rock album here!"

WITHERED Announce Release Date For Dualitas Album; Comment On DANZIG Tour
Atlanta's WITHERED has announced October 26th as the street date for Dualitas, their third album, and second for Prosthetic Records. Dualitas was recorded by KYLESA's Phillip Cope at the Jam Room in Columbia, SC like its predecessor, Folie Circulaire.
It was announced over the weekend the band would be participating in DANZIG's Blackest Of The Black Fest, this fall, alongside POSSESSED, MARDUK and TOXIC HOLOCAUST.
Guitarist/vocalist Mike Thompson commented on the tour: "Withered is bringing our brand of extreme music and expression to a new audience this fall. The Blackest Of The Black tour is an opportunity that we just couldn't pass up. It is also a blessing for us after learning the unfortunate news about Behemoth and Nergal. This turn of events will allow us to offer a glimpse of unique perspective to a fresh crowd as we kick off our third album release. Whether these fans are ready for us or not, we are definitely ready for them and expect to expand their horizons as well as our own on this new path." | 0 | |

LEAVES\' EYES Vocalist Liv Kristine - \"I Received An Invitation From THEATRE OF TRAGEDY Asking Me If I Wanted To Make A Guest Appearance At Their Final Gig\"
In a new interview, LEAVES' EYES vocalist Liv Kristine commented on her former band THEATRE OF TRAGEDY's decision t ocall it quits after 17 years. Liv was fired from the band in 2003 due to personal and creative differences.
“I received an invitation from the guys in Theatre Of Tragedy asking me if I wanted to make a guest appearance in Stavanger (Norway) at their final gig on October 2nd,” Liv reveals. “I’ll be in the States on tour so there’s no way I can do it, which is a pity. My mother is going, though, and I’m still in touch with Raymond (Rohonyi / vocals) and Lorentz (Aspen / keyboards). We’ve talked about what happened between us and, well, it is what it is. You can’t change the past.”
“Without Theatre Of Tragedy I wouldn’t be where I am today. I learned a lot during those years. I founded the band with Raymond when I was 18 and we went on tour when I was 19. It was crazy, and what we learned and experienced in those years was fantastic. We still have all those fans and friends out there. It’s a pity that this chapter of Theatre Of Tragedy is closing now because I think the band still has much more to offer."
Click here for more. Go to this location for BW&BK's recently interview with Liv about her new solo album, Skintight.
Leaves' Eyes recently checked in with the following update:

Yesterday we played the ProgPower Festival in Atlanta for a awesome audience! Thanks to the fans and the organization for a great experience! We came a long way and we are here to play for the American fans."
"At this moment, the promoters are doing everything possible to keep this tour going on in North America for Leaves' Eyes, and some shows have been confirmed. If you already have a ticket for a Kamelot / Leaves' Eyes / Blackguard show, you can refund where you purchased it and you can get a new discounted ticket for the Leaves' Eyes / Blackguard show! DEF LEPPARD Singer To Launch His Own Beer
According to RTÉ, DEF LEPPARD singer Joe Elliott will officially launch his own beer in Dublin next week.
Down 'n' Outz, which is named after Elliott's musical side project and is described as "a pilsner style" that has "a deep, rich malt character, with generous hop bitterness," will be launched on on Wednesday, September 15 at The Porterhouse North Rock Garden in Glasnevin.
Brewed and bottled by The Porterhouse, the beer will be available in all Porterhouse bars.
Commented Elliott: "Over the years I've noticed a lot of musicians putting their names to a variety of wines etc which, as nice as a glass of red or white is, well, it's not very rock and roll is it?!
"Beer or lager seem to be the drink of choice at nearly every gig I've ever played or attended so for me it's a much cooler thing to do and having seen how The Porterhouse put quality over quantity, I'm extremely happy to get involved with Oliver [Hughes, Porterhouse MD] and his gang."

Keyboardist Jordan Rudess of progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER has posted the following statement on his official blog regarding the departure of drummer Mike Portnoy, the band's co-founder and leader for 25 years:

"Mike is the ultimate rock drummer and I know he will be successful at whatever he does. Meanwhile, DREAM THEATER is moving forward quickly and looking forward to creating some great new music."

I have always been able to express my feelings and do my best 'talking' through music, so I decided to voice my statement in this improvisation [see video below]. Hope you 'understand.'"

TAROT - How To Celebrate 25 Years?
2011 will mark a quarter century since the release of Finnish metallers TAROT's The Spell Of Iron debut. To commemorate the event, the Hietala brothers plan to re-record said album. Bassist Marco Hietala (who also "moonlights" in NIGHTWISH) jokes that the artwork, where a hand holds a tarot card should be updated as well, to just a skeletal hand, "after all this time, that's all that's left!" At this point in time, they'd like to close out 2011 with a North American tour (their first)! Stay tuned for further developments.
Last April, Tarot's latest album, Gravity Of Light, entered the Finnish charts at #2, the band's highest ever chart position in Finland.

VAINGLORY - New Album To Be \"Finalized\" In October
VAINGLORY vocalist Kate French (ex-CHASTAIN) recently checked in with a brief update stating they are "finalizing the (new) Vainglory CD in October with a new live band, and a new show. It's about time!"
The album has been in the works since 2008. Following is French's take on her vocal performances:
"This CD, it's much different then anything I've done vocally. I wanted to show every kind of metal vocal style I can do, and I can do it ALL. From death to screamo to the Halford highs, to sissy LA girl fairy princess (I don't do that on this though), but it is still me. Don't be too shocked, I think youll like it. Not too much, but just enough of everything."
More details will be revealed soon. Check out the band's official MySpace page here.

The first official release from Niji Entertainment Group, the label formed by the late Ronnie James Dio and his wife/manager Wendy Dio, will be " the double-disc set "Dio At Donington UK: Live 1983 & 1987". SPOCK\'S BEARD To Release X Album This Month
Progressive rock band SPOCK'S BEARD will release its tenth studio album, the aptly titled X, on September 28th via Mascot Records.
Over the past 17 years, Spock’s Beard has established itself as the crème de la crème of modern progressive rock. But Spock’s Beard is not simply a musician’s band; the group has also mastered the art of penning catchy, harmony-driven songs that will appeal to any fan of well-written pop songs.
The music of Spock’s Beard is a reflection of their varied influences, which include classical, pop, rock, jazz and jazz fusion, and R&B, while their intricate multi-part vocal harmonies and use of counterpoint add a whole other dimension.
Since Spock’s Beard began playing together in the early ‘90s, not only have musical phases come and gone, but a whole new model of recording and selling music has taken shape. There were a lot of “firsts” for the group on X.
“We were never all in the same room at the same time, from the song writing stage all the way through mixing and mastering,” said bassist Dave Meros. “We have never done that before. One might think that would work against us, but apparently it had a positive effect in this case.”
The quartet’s dedicated fanbase can take partial credit for X. After coming to the end of their previous record deal, Spock’s Beard opted to take a decidedly modern approach to financing a new record. The group raised funds for recording by taking pre-sale orders for X. A privately released Limited Edition version of X was first issued and the record has since been licensed for release in America through Mascot Records.
Early reviews of X have hailed the release as one of – if not THE – finest release from Spock’s Beard. But pressed to explain how X differs from previous albums, Meros takes a humble and humorous observation:
“From what the critics have been saying, we wrote good songs this time, as opposed to the last CD which was super lame in their opinion. So in retrospect, I guess writing good songs may have been a good idea. We do that on purpose you know…sometimes we decide to be good and other times we choose to be super lame. We could be good all the time if we wanted, but what fun would that be? People would just love us and buy our CDs by the millions and we'd make loads of money. Who wants that? BORING!”

IN THE MIDST OF LIONS - 'The Machine' Video Available
IN THE MIDST OF LIONS have released a video for 'The Machine', a song from their recent Facedown release, The Heart Of Man. You can watch the video below.
A report on the shoot reads: "The video shoot was definitely difficult. There was even a situation with an alligator near Matt's shots! It was way too hot and humid that day, but it was great working with Drew. The song 'The Machine' is about money and greed and how these things can take our focus away from God and consume us. Drew came up with the concept of the mud being a symbol of that greed and sin. We're very happy with the result and we're very thankful that Drew worked with us."
A mixture of fast-paced tech metal and grinding melodic worship, In The Midst Of Lions' sound can be compared to such contemporaries as MESHUGGAH, THE FACELESS, WHITECHAPEL and DARKEST HOUR.
The Heart of Man was recorded with Jamie King (BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, FOR TODAY) and is a sonically crushing metal album that definitely exceeds the band's previous efforts on their debut.
