BRUTAL GODZ Begins Recording Debut Album
 BRUTAL GODZ, the new Germany-based project featuring former/current members of BLIND GUARDIAN, RHAPSODY OF FIRE, REBELLION and METAL CHURCH, has entered guitarist Uwe Lulis' studio in Frankfurt, Germany to begin recording its debut album, "Echoes Of The Dead", for a fall release. According to the band, the entire tracking process should take about four months.
Due to the cancelation of overseas flights because of the effects of the recent volcano in Iceland, singer Ronny Munroe (ex-METAL CHURCH) had to reschedule his trip from Puerto Rico where he is currently living. Ronny will finally join his bandmates within a very short time. Meanwhile, Lulis, along with the Holzwarth brothers Alex (drums) and Oliver (bass), is continuing work on the CD.
Alex Holzwarth comments on the band's unusual recording philosophy: "The recording concept is simple: We plug our instruments in, get miked up, rehearse the songs and finally record all our music in a live situation to ensure that we catch the magic moment with each single note being played. This concept totally differs from the contemporary recording habits that do hardly catch the magic of music at all. In my opinion, it is all about the face-to-face or ear-to-ear situation of playing together in the same room at the same time. Like THE BEATLES did it and AC/DC still do it. The audio results we get are just amazing."

VOUGAN/Ex-OUTWORLD Singer To Guest On New EMPIRES OF EDEN
 Singer Carlos Zema has been added to the list of musicians who have recorded guest appearances on "Reborn in Fire", the upcoming album from EMPIRES OF EDEN — the brainchild of PAINDIVISION/ex-DUNGEON guitarist Stu Marshall. The Brazilian native has come to the focus of the metal public through his time in the band OUTWORLD and South American heavyweights VOUGAN.
Commented Marshall: "Working with Carlos is one of those experiences that really blew my mind. The song 'Rising' featured is one of Carlos' tunes as a whole so I can honestly say I am a fan of the song. Initially we created a super-heavy tune, and while we both really liked it, found it was missing something that the rest of the album had. So, to continue the melodic feel of the album, Carlos sent me his song 'Rising' to work on and we both agreed it worked well on the album and 'Rising' is a killer song. INTO ETERNITY Records Demo Version Of New Acoustic Track
 Founding guitarist/principal songwriter Tim Roth of Canadian extreme progressive metallers INTO ETERNITY has issued the following update:
"My original intention for the new [INTO ETERNITY] album was an all-heavy/fast album. However, we have just demoed a 6:07-minute acoustic track for Song 2. The song doesn't feel finished yet, but Stu [Block, vocals] and I are coming up with lyrics and cool melodies to sing over and then we'll have a better picture to where the song is headed.
The band is back to jamming on a regular basis now and things are going great!

OPETH\'s \'Still Life\' To Be Re-Released On Double Vinyl With New Artwork
 OPETH's "Still Life" album will be re-released on double vinyl on June 7 via Peaceville Records.
"Still Life" was OPETH's first outing for Peaceville and armed with renewed enthusiasm, the band delivered a flawless gem of an LP.
Originally released in 1999, the enigmatic "Still Life" is an ambitious concept album focusing on a tale of forbidden love in dangerous times.
Featuring the extraordinary voice and poetic lyrics of Mikael Åkerfeldt, "Still Life"'s moods range from brutal passages of extreme metal to predominantly acoustic moments of breathtaking beauty.
The vinyl edition is limited to 2,000 numbered copies and comes on double 180-gm vinyl in a deluxe heavyweight gatefold sleeve featuring reworked artwork by original designer Travis Smith. ROB ROCK To Guest On MISTHERIA Album
 Powerhouse vocalist Rob Rock (DRIVER, IMPELLITTERI, M.A.R.S.) will enter RedRoom Audio studios in Apopka, Florida next week to perform and record a new song he has written with Mistheria, longtime studio keyboardist for Rob's solo albums. The progressive neo-classical metal track "Lies and Deception" will be featured on Mistheria's forthcoming solo CD, to be released later this year via Frontiers Records. Engineering and recording the vocal session will be Sean Shannon, owner/operator of the RedRoom Audio studio (and drummer for Pat Travers' band)

 MEGADETH drummer Shawn Drover has issued the following update:
"It does not suck to [be] me right now.
"After a great birthday in Lima, Peru, to which my grandson was also born on my birthday (thanks to those of you here for the birthday wishes, etc. I do appreciate it) I am about to venture out to the beach here in Costa Rica and have a good walk around the grounds.
"It's nice and sunny at the moment, so it won't be long before I head over to the pool and just enjoy my day off here.
"We had a very warm welcome upon arrival at the airport here [see video below — Ed.], and this is the place where we saw a TV segment on the Internet about some fans waiting in line to see our show 18 DAYS before!!!!!!!

EVERGREY: Time For Some Changes
 Vocalist/guitarist Tom S. Englund of Swedish metallers EVERGREY has issued the following statement:
"As promised here is the first part of news regarding EVERGREY as a band.
"At first it might seem devastating and frightening as it did to us when making this decision. People change, evolve and grow, sometimes in different ways and in different directions. This happens to everyone and it has certainly happened to EVERGREY as a band throughout the years.
"Me and Rikard [Zander, keyboards] have together with Henrik [Danhage, guitar] and Jonas [Ekdahl, drums] made the mutual decision that it was best for us all that they leave EVERGREY. They wanted to and we wanted them to.
"The last tours, recordings and just hanging with each other has not been as fun and giving as earlier AND before it would go too far, resulting in a collision in between friends, which could ruin everything we have built up during the years, we decided to call it quits.
"It's sometimes both smart and foreseeing to end situations before they get out of hand and create something that is totally unnecessary and irreparable. To be in a band must be experienced as fun, giving and fulfilling. There is SO much time during a life as a touring musician that is boring that if you don't even enjoy yourself while playing then it's better to do something else.
"Henrik and Jonas also got DEATHDESTRUCTION that ALSO has evolved and became more and more serious during the years and now they even recorded a debut album and naturally it felt fresh and reviving for them to enter something new and unexplored as opposed to EVERGREY where they more or less experienced the same things over and over.
"It is VERY important for us to tell you that we are still great friends and most likely always will be since we have shared 10 years of our lives and dedicated it to the progress and evolvement of EVERGREY. The friendship is what we value the most and nothing could be more important than that, at least for the four of us. So please take some time to digest and understand. That is what we have done and I am glad to say that all of us are happier than in a long time. This is something I think you can feel when watching the video version of the statement.
"BUT that is not the end of it. Jari [Kainulainen, bass] ALSO decided to leave the band, and the reason was that he would rather play with a band called KILLING MACHINE as they could offer him a salary we couldn't and that was the sole reason of his decision. We were REALLY sad to see Jari leave as he is a tremendous bass player and person.
"I know what you all are thinking… ENOUGH WITH depressing news.
"So to something brighter: With all these new situations we were facing, me and Rikard had to sit down to think. First thought was of course, 'Fuck this… let's get a day job,' but after a couple of weeks of contemplating and silence we realized something: Should we quit what we are doing, something that we still love as much as ten years ago, if not more, because of someone else disappearing? I mean, it's not like it's the first time it happens and it never made Evergrey stagnate or lose its edge, quite the contrary. So should we continue to make the music that we and YOU enjoy deeply?
"As you understand, we have chosen to continue.
"We have a full album written and half-way recorded. Last recording/mixing day will be June 30th. And a release BEFORE or at the latest on the 14th of October is set. We will soon (as we use to) start feeding you snippets.
"We ALSO have a European tour coming up — starting NEXT SUNDAY in Hamburg. And to be able to do that tour we must have new members, and we do! So please be open-minded and welcome:
* Marcus Jidell (ex-ROYAL HUNT) on guitars
* Johan Niemann (ex-THERION, MIND'S EYE) on bass
* Hannes Van Dahl on drums
"So be sure to bring your CDs of the above mentioned bands to the shows to have them signed.
"These are the guys we have been working hard with to rehearse the old songs and writing the new ones. And today was our last rehearsal for the tour and I must say it sounds great in a way I didn't expect after such a short time. There is not a chance in HELL you will be disappointed in the performance of these guys.
"So that's why we do this tour… to bring and present the new guys to you and also at the same time get the chance to play the cities we didn't do on the November tour of course.
"As with ANY change, when you give it time you realize that it's turned out for the better. So far in this EVER-LASTING changing of members in EVERGREY, it's always turned out great and brought fresh blood and motivation into the band, and the level of wanting to prove ourselves as a band is higher than EVER before.
"We do have some other great news that surely will bring this band to another level but as of yet we are restricted to speak about it.
"So don't give up on us, you never have, and we love you for it!"

DAY SIX - The Grand Design Album Details Revealed
 Lion Music recently signed Dutch progressive rock/metal band DAY SIX for their debut album, The Grand Design.
Hailing from the Netherlands, Day Six are a first class powerful four piece who produce a mammoth sound of great scope and depth on their debut album The Grand Design.
With a sound that combines elements from across progressive music’s history, Day Six with The Grand Design have come up with a unique take on the genre which is equal parts dark and light making great use of dynamics and textures. Comparisons could be made between a fusion of PINK FLOYD, RUSH, PORCUPINE TREE, DREAM THEATER and OPETH where colossal guitar riffs collide and intertwine with synthesized textures and enthralling vocals for a truly mesmerizing effect.
Lyrically, The Grand Design is a concept album which focuses on an extraterrestrial spaceship that has been found in Lake Vostok – Antarctica. The storyline is following five weather scientists who did this discovery and found out about the secrecy on Extraterrestrial contact on Earth. The elite government finds out about the scientists - and to prevent them from bringing out the truth on E.T. life, they are locked in psychiatric hospitals while agents try to erase their experiences from their memories. However, the scientists develop a way to communicate telepathically with each other and with the E.T. beings. One of the scientists is writing a diary – the song 'A Soul's Documentary' is about these writings. In this way, they try to bring out the truth to the world despite the plans of the government.
Since forming in 2002, Day Six have become a mainstay on the live Dutch music scene and won two major competitions in the Netherlands: the Metal Battle and the Aardschok Metal Bash. As a result Day Six have grown to be one of the most well known progressive metal bands in the Netherlands and with the worldwide release of The Grand Design, Lion Music will introduce the band to a wider audience.
The Grand Design comprises of 9 tracks and clocks in at over 70 minutes and it set for release on Lion Music on June 18th.

GODFLESH\'s \'Streetcleaner\' To Be Reissued With Bonus Disc
 "Streetcleaner", the seminal 1989 album from British industrial metal pioneers GODFLESH, will be remastered and reissued in a deluxe digipak in Europe on June 21 and in North America on August 10 via Earache Records.
"Streetcleaner" was GODFLESH's second release, proving to be one of the band's finest and most recognized albums and helping them to become one of the most influential industrial bands ever. Now "Streetcleaner" is being brought up to date as a special expanded version, with all tracks remastered by GODFLESH founding member Justin Broadrick. The album also includes a bonus disc featuring 12 previously unreleased live tracks, alternate mixes and demos, and comes housed in a deluxe multi-panel digipak with detailed liner notes.

TRENT REZNOR Says NINE INCH NAILS Is \'Not Dead\'
 According to The Pulse of Radio, Trent Reznor says that NINE INCH NAILS is "not dead" even though he is focusing for the moment on HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS, the new act he has assembled with his wife, singer Mariqueen Maandig, and frequent collaborator Atticus Ross. Reznor answered selected fan questions at the HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS page on Facebook, saying about NINE INCH NAILS, "I am about to work on some material that I believe will be quite different than previous NIN very soon."
He added that HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS "frees me from some of the constraints I've begun to feel (primarily emotionally) in NIN," revealing that the band's upcoming six-song EP will come out in both digital and physical form this summer.
The first song released by the band, "A Drowning", is only available digitally.
A full-length ANGELS album will come out early next year, with some possible touring to support it.
Reznor retired NINE INCH NAILS as a live act last fall, although he said at the time he still intended to make music under that name.

Gory \'Death Metal\' Teacher Too Gruesome For School
 The Local reports: A trainee high school teacher in Stuttgart who moonlights in a gory death metal band that includes naked, blood-smeared women in its live act, is being threatened with dismissal unless he gives up his music career.
By day, Thomas Gurrath, 29, is a trainee teacher in politics, history and ethics at Hegel Gymnasium in the city's Vaihingen district. By night, he is Thomas "The Bloodbeast" Gurrath, frontman for the gory metal band DEBAUCHERY.
Now, he's been given an ultimatum: it's one or the other. According to daily Bild on Friday, education authorities have told Gurrath he will have to give up the teacher traineeship he began on January 1 unless he quits his band.
Clemens Homoth-Kuhs, spokesman for the regional education authorities, told the paper: "We have in the end agreed that Mr. Gurrath is now to stop his traineeship, but have told him that he can start again under certain conditions."

DEAD BY APRIL - New Single Details Revealed; UK Tour Dates Confirmed
 Swedish modern metallers DEAD BY APRIL will be returning to the UK in October for a full run of dates supporting MY PASSION.
In advance of these shows, on May 17th, the band will be releasing a new double A-side digital single, comprising of ‘Love Like Blood’ and ‘Promise Me’.
‘Love Like Blood’, a cover of the KILLING JOKE classic, is taken from a forthcoming Killing Joke tribute album (also featuring artists such as METALLICA, FOO FIGHTERS and HELMET), whilst ‘Promise Me’ can be found on Dead By April's debut self-titled album, a #2 record in their native Finland.
The band recently confirmed a lineup change, with guitarist/vocalist Pontus Hjelm being replaced by Zandro Santiago (Pontus, however, will continue as a non-touring member of the writing team). This means that Santiago will share vocal duties with Jimmie Strimell, leaving Johan Olsson to take care of all guitar parts live.

 Frontiers Records has set a May 14 release date for "Tonight", the new digital single from the Swedish female-fronted heavy rock band THE MURDER OF MY SWEET. COURTNEY LOVE Slams FRED DURST
 The Pulse of Radio reports that Courtney Love slammed LIMP BIZKIT frontman Fred Durst last Saturday night (May 1) during a performance at a radio festival in Dallas where both her band HOLE and LIMP BIZKIT were appearing. According to SFGate.com, Love took the opportunity between songs during HOLE's Edgefest set to put down Durst and LIMP BIZKIT's 1999 hit "Nookie", saying, "I have to say, as much as I like Fred, he brought about the worst years in rock history. That just be (sic) a fact, OK? That just be a fact. 'I did it for the nookie!' I did not do it for the nookie, I did it for the rock! I'm just saying, man, he's a nice guy, but Jesus!"
Love then called out — and gave the middle finger to — a concertgoer who was wearing a hat similar to Durst's trademark red baseball cap.
She said, "I see (a) guy with (a) backwards baseball cap. Dude, you! You scare me! You make me feel like you're going to rape me or something, and all my children! You did it for the nookie, dude in the red baseball hat! Do you know one word to one (HOLE) song? That is so lame. I'm so sorry, you're here for the nookie! I could beat your ass."
There was no word on whether Durst heard about or responded to Love's comments.
HOLE is touring in support of its first album in 12 years, "Nobody's Daughter", while LIMP BIZKIT's first full-length record with its original lineup in 11 years, "Gold Cobra", arrives this summer.

HUMAN FORTRESS Part Ways With Singer Due To Health Reasons; Seek Replacement
 German power metallers HUMAN FORTRESS have parted ways with singer Jioti Parcharidis. A band update reads:
"He has serious health problems, so it's not possible for him to sing any longer for Human Fortress or any other band.
For those who have read it in the press the last days, it is now confirmed. His health has first priority and Human Fortress wishes him all the best to get well again.
We keep him in our memory as the former voice of Human Fortress who created something very special with us and it was a great pleasure for us all to work with him and produce the albums Lord Of Earth And Heavens Heir and Defenders Of The Crown.
In the meantime, we continue our work on a new album. Already ten tracks are finished in the old Human Fortress style with epic and folk parts you will remember from prior releases. Another two tracks are composed and are now waiting to be recorded.
It's time for a new part in the history of Human Fortress. We are searching for a new voice now!"

EARLY GRAVES To Release \'Goner\' In June
 San Francisco's EARLY GRAVES has completed work on its sophomore album, "Goner", for a June 22 release via Ironclad/Metal Blade Records. The follow-up to 2008's "We: The Guillotine" was recorded at Louder Studios (MELVINS, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, SAVIOURS) by Tim Green (THE FUCKING CHAMPS, NATION OF ULYSSES) and mastered by John Golden at Golden Mastering. The artwork was created by Nat Damm Design (MONOTONIX, AKIMBO, THE FUCKING WRATH).

HELL WITHIN: New Album Details Revealed
 Known for its ability to combine the hardest elements of European death metal, American hardcore and old-school thrash, HELL WITHIN is poised to release its new full-length album, "God Grant Me Vengeance", on July 13 via Thorp Records. The CD was recorded in February at Damage Studios with producer Peter Rutcho , who has previously worked with BURY YOUR DEAD, UNEARTH and REVOCATION, among others.

FINNTROLL, CHTHONIAN Members Join Forces In OBSERVANT
 OBSERVANT, the new Finnish metal band featuring members of FINNTROLL and CHTHONIAN, has made its debut EP, "Corrodead", available via MySpace. The EP was recorded at Studio KPB by the bandmembers themselves, and was mixed and mastered by Sami "Hannu" Koivisto at Biotech Audio Solutions and Nordic Audio Labs.
OBSERVANT was formed in late 2008 in Pietarsaari, Finland by Mikael Ekstedt, Kenna Nygård and Staffan Holmnäs (CHTHONIAN) after a late night in the bar. Jonas Frilund (CHTHONIAN) and Mathias Lillmåns (FINNTROLL, CHTHONIAN) joined the band the following year and the lineup was complete.
All members of OBSERVANT have played together in Pietarsaari before in various bands like DEGENERATE, DEVIOUS IMP, TWILIGHT MOON, etc.

 ANNIHILATOR guitarist/ founder Jeff Waters recently discussed life as a professional musician after 20+ years and thirteen albums. An excerpt is available below:
Waters: “It was a lot of fun doing the Metal album but honestly – totally honest – it was just another record. You can’t have this pressure and stress where you say ‘I guess if this album doesn’t sell well that’s it for the band…’ or ‘I hope this thing makes a lot of money.’ We don’t think like that. For us it’s a big deal that we have the chance to make another album. We sit and look in the mirror and say ‘This is awesome, be grateful and enjoy the fucking thing.’ The only stress I have doing a record these days is whether I’m out of coffee or not. That’s the only way you can do this.”
Annihilator are due to release their new self-titled studio album on May 17th in Europe via Earache Records, Japan via Marquee and in Australia via Riot Entertainment.

ALL THAT REMAINS Engaging Fans While Recording New Album
 Massachusetts metallers ALL THAT REMAINS have entered the studio to begin recording their fifth album, due this fall via Prosthetic Records/Razor & Tie. To engage fans in the recording process, Phil Labonte (vocals), Oli Herbert (guitar), Mike Martin (guitar), Jeanne Sagan (bass) and Jason Costa (drums) have set up AllThatRemainsTV.com, a streaming video site set up in their recording studio. Former FRAMESHIFT Vocalist Candidate Auditions For DRAGONFORCE; Audio And Video Audition Of \'Last Journey Home\' Online
 Vocalist Adrian O' Shaughnessy, better known in some circles as Aio, was a candidate in 2007 for the planned third FRAMESHIFT album, The God Delusion. O' Shaughnessy has resurfaced with audition material for DRAGONFORCE, who are currently looking for a replacement for departed singer ZP Theart who left the band in March. He has issued the following update:

So here it is, my audition vocals for Dragonforce. I really enjoyed the soaring melodies of this tune and it suited my vocal style pretty well. I think I'm supposed to record a vid of me singing it live and post it on YouTube but to be honest I'm not sure Dragonforce would be interested. ASPHYX: Vinyl Collector\'s Edition Of \'The Rack\' Due In June
 Ibex Moon Records has announced the upcoming release of the special collector's vinyl edition of all-time classic, death metal masterpiece "The Rack" from the mighty Dutch outfit ASPHYX.
The release will only be available from Ibex Moon Records and Abyss Records mailorder. The first 25 copies sold through either IbexMoonRecords.com or OfficialAbyssRecords.com will be autographed by band members Martin Van Drunen and Bob Bagchus. It is limited to 666 copies on blue vinyl and includes new liner notes with commentary by journalists, fans, fellow musicians, and the bandmembers themselves. The album also comes with an 18" x 24" ASPHYX poster.
"The Rack" defines "brutality" with its abrasive chainsaw guitars, doom churn to death romp tempos, and a sickening vocal style from Martin Van Drunen that sounds like he was being tortured during the recording of the LP.
"The Rack" will ship on June 8, 2010.
