TARJA TURUNEN Completes Recording New Solo Album
Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen has completed recording her new solo album, "What Lies Beneath". She states, "It was a great last vocal session. I am grateful that everything I planned was accomplished. Also the things that we decided on the way have only improved the songs making the overall picture clearer in the end.
"It's going to be a very nice and powerful album!
"It has been a 'long and winding' road, but definitely worth every step.
"You see who came to visit me in the studio in these last couple of days? Both my lovely and talented brothers Timo and Toni shared their vocals with me in one particular song, which you are going to hear pretty soon in my summer shows with orchestra and choir.
"The name of the song of course will need to remain as a secret until that.
"It was so wonderful to sing with them. I am very proud of them. We are all very different kind of singers, which makes us a very unique musical family.
"The next challenge is the intense mixing process that will take place starting from … tomorrow!
"I can't believe that I am at this point in the production. Makes me really thrilled!
"We have decided to mix in three different locations with three different engineers to get the best out of each song.
"The first stage will take us to London!!!! I am going to spend next couple of weeks mixing part of the album with Mr. Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, SLIPKNOT) at Miloco Studios.
We have met after my last show in London and since then we have been working already in the songs.
"I am truly looking forward our collaboration. Colin is very kind and a true British gentle man.
"London is also one of my favourite cities in the planet, so I cannot be more than happy to be there. Maybe I'll have some time for shoe shopping (as you know already), if I am lucky!
"Now I'll enjoy a glass of red wine that I feel I've well deserved it."
"What Lies Beneath" is tentatively scheduled for a late summer release. With production handled by Tarja herself, the follow-up to 2007's "My Winter Storm" "looks set to take Tarja's unique musical mix of drama 'n' decibels to a whole new level of success," according to a press release.
"We worked on 33 songs this time around from which I decided to record 17," Tarja explained. "It has been great to have the freedom to produce my own record for the first time; these sessions have been such a gift, a real learning process and a true joy. In many ways, it feels like the first time…"
The lead single from "What Lies Beneath", title to be confirmed, is currently being discussed for an early August release, with the full album to follow later that month.

SYMPHORCE Guitarist To Release Instrumental Solo Album
Guitarist Cédric "Cede" Dupont (SYMPHORCE, DOWNSPIRIT, FREEDOM CALL) will release an instrumental solo album, "Melodrama", in June.
A wordwide distribution deal has yet to be announced. However, it is likely that the CD will be available as a digipack for online orders and as a download via the usual digital music providers.
Commented Dupont: "I'm still in shock about my endless creativity.
"This stuff is awesome, really. Can't wait to let you hear and get to know what you think about it.
"So far I can tell you that it's not the typical shredder instrumental stuff, it's more about a musical-sound-landscape where my guitar finds its way to travel the world"
SYMPHORCE, which also features in its ranks guitarist singer Andy B. Franck (BRAINSTORM), recently inked a deal with AFM Records. The band is currently working on a new studio album for a tentative late August release.

SWASHBUCKLE Parts Ways With Drummer, Announces Replacement
New Jersey's thrashing pirates SWASHBUCKLE have parted ways with drummer Captain Crashride and have replaced him with Bootsmann Collins.
Commented frontman Admiral Nobeard: "Ahoy scallywags and asshats! There's been a bit of a change in the 'BUCKLE rank as of late. We have recently parted ways with drummer Captain Crashride. He brought us five years of service and utter shenanigans, and we wish him nothing but the best in combating that extreme outbreak of scurvy. With that being said, we now have a new drummer stepping up to fill the boots and more so to speak, and that man be none other than Bootsmann Collins. He's a fucking killer drummer and quite the retarded pirate. So we couldn't be more stoked to have him aboard. So please give him a warm welcome with yar internet shit-talk and utter disgust for everything piratical. We wouldn't have it any other way. Eat a bowl of fuck! Check out the bootsmann's other band as well — WE ALL HAVE DAY JOBS."

ALAN PARSONS Recording New Album This Year?
Legendary musician/engineer/producer ALAN PARSONS is still very active after a career that spans four decades. In addition to the release of a new live DVD/CD Eye To Eye – Live In Madrid, in an interview with Long Live Rock, Parsons said that he is considering recording a new studio album this year as well.
“I think I probably will make an album over the next twelve months,” Parsons told hosts Sterling Whitaker and Jeb Wright. He also divulged the name of one likely guest vocalist. “I think it almost goes without saying that if I make this album, I will definitely get Kip Winger involved in at least one track.”
The WINGER leader has worked with the Alan Parsons Live Project in the past, and in his own interview with Long Live Rock he shared the story of writing a letter to Alan when he was just another young fan, and how he treasured the letter Parsons wrote back for years and years. When he finally got to work with Alan, Kip showed him the actual letter, a story Parsons confirmed.
“Thank God I did write back to him,” Parsons said with a laugh. “There were a lot of people I didn't write back to. Kip's a lovely guy and a great singer, and a great musical talent. I love him to death.”
In the meantime there's a new track called 'All Our Yesterdays' included on Parsons' new three DVD project The Art and Science of Sound Recording, in which the legendary engineer - who began his career as an assistant engineer at Abbey Road working with The Beatles, and went on to score the first of ten Grammy nominations by engineering Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon - interviews many of the top engineers and producers in the world, from rock to country, on the subject of sound recording and production. The film documents the recording process for “All Our Yesterdays” from inception, right up to final mix.

Based on a true story, the short film was honored with awards at the Fredrikstad Animation Festival (Norway) and Ourense International Film Festival (Spain).

THE GARDNERZ - New Material Streaming Online
Swedish doom/death act THE GARDNERZ have uploaded four new tracks to their official MySpace Page: ‘Flaw In The Axiom' (New Mix), ‘The Art Of Suffering’, ‘Born To Consume' (New Mix), and ‘Bloody Vengeance' (VULCANO cover).
The band have issued the following new album update: "Blending slow and heavy riffs with melodic melodies distorted and clean, we try to create our own slice of metal. Taking influences from all over the musical spectra, but keeping a solid metal foundation. We are currently working on our upcoming debut album called The System Of Nature. The title is taken from the 18-centery philosopher Baron d'Holbachs book with the same name. The lyrics deal with philosophical ideas and random rants about the strange ways of man. With song titles like Flaw in the axiom, Shift in thought, Your final solution, Born to consume, The art of suffering and so on."

SONATA ARCTICA To Shoot Live DVD This September In Milan, Italy
Finland's SONATA ARCTICA have issued the following update:
Sonata Arctica are extremely excited to announce their upcoming recording of their second DVD which will take place at the Alcatraz in Milan, Italy on September 30th, 2010.
The band will perform a pretty unique show of at least 120 minutes. Next to songs of their latest albums The Days Of Grays and Unia they also will perform some of the older songs from previous albums plus some very rare songs they didn’t play live during the last years. For sure this will be an unforgettable event and a journey from the beginning of their career as one of the most popular Finnish metal bands until now - you definitely shouldn’t miss it.
The DVD will be released in spring 2011 (tba) through Nuclear Blast records and Marquee Inc. in Japan and will, next to the show in Milan, contain another show, recorded 2009 during the Sonata Arctica Open Air Festival in their hometown Kemi, Finland. And of course there will be massive bonus material such as The Making Of, interviews, and plenty of video footage the band recorded the last few years during their career on tour."

FAITH CIRCUS In Mixing Mode
Norwegian rockers FAITH CIRCUS have issued the following update from vocalist Marc Farrano:
"I’m happy to inform you that the mixing process is well underway, and sounding GREAT (if I’m allowed to say so myself!). The new cover layout is also beginning to take shape.
Since this is a re-release it’s only fair that you are being presented with something special! And therefore I’ve decided to include the song 'Heroes'. Initially intended to be a part of the 2008 release, but through a series of events didn’t make the album. It surfaced in 2009 as a Japanese bonus track (labeled ”rough mix”). But now you get to hear it in all it’s glory!
BUT... not only that... we’re also giving you a second bonus track! A musical piece of EPIC proportions that is guaranteed to BLOW-YOU-AWAY!!
Yes, that’s right folks... and being the little tease that I am I’m not gonna give anymore away at this point!
All will be revealed in good time!" | 0 | |

OPETH Frontman Reflects On Anniversary Shows
Guitarist/vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt of Swedish progressive metallers OPETH has issued the following update:
"Swollen feet!
"If you guys been on a plane for 15 hours+, you might have experienced it. Fucking disgusting! Maybe it's something that comes with age.
"Anyhooo... I went to the pharmacy and got special flying socks, and problem is gone!
"Some words of advice, right? Beware of them jell-o feet!
"Lamest beginning of any of my 'blogs,' right...thank you very much...
"Got back home last night from the six shows we did celebrating 20 years as a band. Let's see, Stockholm (went OK), Essen (great), Paris (great), Holland (off show...horrible!), London (AMAZING!), NYC (good), L.A. (OK).
"Overall it was a fantastic little trip for all of us, we had a blast. Played three-hour shows, started with the whole 'Blackwater Park' album from start to finish, then a little 10-minute break, and a second set consisting of: 'Forest of October', 'Advent', 'April Ethereal', 'The Moor', 'Wreath', 'Hope Leaves', 'Harlequin Forest' and 'The Lotus Eater'.
"Crowd was great on all shows, apart from Holland (I mean, some peeps seemed to like us and cheers to them, but we're really ignored AND some TWAT threw a beer in my chest. Same TWAT later posted in the guestbook that he's actually a fan, and 'couldn't believe I could throw 40 yards, sorry, love you guys' Haha! What a TWAT!!!
"The 'OK' and 'good' comments above are based on our personal overall feel on stage, some of these shows were plagued with bad stage sound which always makes it a lot more difficult. And we're also quite picky, I guess.
"Either way, crowds for all the six anniversary shows we're amazing; these were all sold-out shows, which was a plus.
"Playing the Royal Albert Hall in London is the biggest feather in my rock hat so far. Wow! Just wow! We took pictures just like DEEP PURPLE did on the 1969 'Concerto' album. Geeks!
"Met a bunch of lovely people, thank you for making this trip so memorable for us. We'd meant to have one night in some pub here in Stockholm, downing a few pints, but it 'escalated' into some of the biggest shows we've ever done.
"Now I'm back home....lotsa stuff in the pipeline, some cool things cooking. Next OPETH album being one thing.
"BUT, firstly I have to service my two cars (yeah, two!!!)...haha they're only Volvos, one a MINT 240 from 1988. Looks like a senior citizen's car actually. They need summer tires by Thursday too. I sweeped the driveway today, changed a few lightbulbs, threw out a lot of garbage and picked up the kids early. Good to be back. But soon I'll be itching to go out again I guess.
"Everyone's good, and I guess they say hello, although I didn't call 'em up and ask 'em if they did. Hehe!
"I might cancel this MySpace soon actually. I like writing these blogs I guess but it's a little bit too much for me to handle. I want to get down into writing mode and need less things hovering above me. But I'll let you know."

ASTRAL DOORS Guitarist Quits
Guitarist Martin Haglund has left Swedish metallers ASTRAL DOORS. He explains in a statement, "This decision has not been easy to make, but its needed. I have reached a point where I feel I have to focus more on my kids and support them in their hobbies and interests, [and] by doing that I'm not able to give ASTRAL DOORS 100%. I don't want to be the one that's holding the band back so I let go. I will continue playing, writing and record music but on a more suitable level. I'll keep the metal flowing that's for sure.
"Being a member of ASTRAL DOORS has given me experiences and memories that I'll bring to the grave. I am truly proud of my time in ASTRAL DOORS and what we have accomplished and brought to the hard-rock scene.
"Thanks and hugs to all of you!! Now ASTRAL DOORS will reload and hit you harder then ever!!"
Adds ASTRAL DOORS singer Nils Patrik Johansson: "Martin is a great guy and we wish him all the best. He did a great job with the mixing of our previous album, that's for sure. Hope the job he did with that album will open a lot of doors for him as a producer.
"ASTRAL DOORS will not bring in a new guitar player in the band to replace Martin: Joachim Nordlund (the founder of ASTRAL DOORS, together with Johan Lindstedt and Nils Patrik Johansson) will from now on handle all guitars himself."
ASTRAL DOORS released its fifth album, "Requiem Of Time" in Europe on January 29 and in North America on February 16 through Metalville, the band and label pool launched by the Cologne, Germany-based company Flying Dolphin Entertainment Group UG.
According to the band, "'Requiem Of Time' is a mixture of classic hard rock, like on the debut, 'Of The Son And The Father', and more modern metal like on the previous disc, 'New Revelation'. Call it what you want; it contains the best songs the band has ever written."
ASTRAL DOORS last year parted ways with bassist Mika Itaranta and replaced him with Ulf Lagerström (LUNATIC PARADE, BARFLY)

AGAINST THE PLAGUES: \'Great Are The Eyed\' Video Released
"Great Are The Eyed", the first official video from AGAINST THE PLAGUES, the multinational extreme-metal act featuring members of LOST HORIZON, LUCIFERION, MALEVOLENT CREATION and VEX, can be viewed below. The clip was filmed in February in Miami with directors Eduardo and Gregg Alvarez from Elephas Productions. The song comes off AGAINST THE PLAGUES' new album, "Decoding the Mainframe", which was released in Europe on March 31 via Vic Records.
Commented the band: "We chose the song 'Great Are The Eyed' [for our first video] because we feel that it best represents the essence of our music (extreme, melodic, speedy, powerful riffs, etc.). During the filming, we chose three different locations and spent a few days to create this video; this included a great deal of involvement coming from Elephas Production directors Eduardo and Gregg and their their awesome crew. Our goal was to give the listeners a bit more than what they have been used to as far as AGAINST THE PLAGUES goes. The video presents the band with our strongest lineup. But overall, we thought it would be fun to create simple and solid metal video that would acompany our album, 'Decoding The Mainframe'."
AGAINST THE PLAGUES recently parted ways with guitarist Adrian Adamus (FOREST OF IMPALED, CORPHAGY). According to the band, Adrian left AGAINST THE PLAGUES "in order to focus on his personal/family life."
Going forward, second-guitar duties in AGAINST THE PLAGUES will be handled by Marco Martell (MALEVOLENT CREATION, DIVINE EMPIRE, KULT OF AZAZEL), who previously played bass for the group. The band says, "Marco is an accomplished guitarist with the versatility, speed, and skill that the 'AGAINST THE PLAGUES style' demands."
"Decoding The Mainframe" contains re-recorded versions of all eight songs from AGAINST THE PLAGUES' self-released CD, "Architecture of Oppression". The tracks were remastered and mixed by Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY, AEON, DISSECTION, KATATONIA, MARDUK).
Commented AGAINST THE PLAGUES co-founder Varyen Chylinsky: "We decided to improve the sound with slightly modified arrangements of the songs, along with mixing and mastering… For now, I would say — this is our first 'official ' product that sounds as a high-quality world class album should sound! Of course we've added several new things to make this release a bit more special. We've improved album cover and the whole CD layout; plus we have added more new pictures of the band along with a few other new bonuses…"
Originally released in 2007, "Architecture of Oppression" was recorded at Studio One with Chris Djuricic (NOVEMBERS DOOM, NACHTMYSTIUM, GORGASM, FOREST OF IMPALED) and was mastered by Daniel Fossum at Sounds Elevator Studio in Gothenburg, Sweden.
AGAINST THE PLAGUES features in its ranks Wojtek Lisicki (LOST HORIZON, LUCIFERION) on guitar, Varyen Chylinski (DAMNATION, FOREST OF IMPALED) on drums, Orlando "Logan" Perez (VEX) on vocals and Marco Martell (MALEVOLENT CREATION, DIVINE EMPIRE, KULT OF AZAZEL) on guitar.

MORS PRINCIPIUM EST Continuing To Write New Material
Vocalist Ville Viljanen of the Finnish melodic death metal band MORS PRINCIPIUM EST has issued the following update:
"Yeah, yeah, it's been a while since last time updated, but there hasn't been anything to update.
"Anyways. We are writing new material. Have been writing for a long time already, but it's not so easy to get something ready. Couple of songs are kinda ready music-wise, but no vocal parts yet.
"And this is especially for those people who are asking 'are we still alive or not' and 'when is our next album coming out.' Well, I don't want to sound rude, but if a band still has gigs to play, doesn't that mean that the band is alive???
"And about the album. I will not promise anything, because I can't. I really don't know when do we have enough songs ready and also once we have about 4-5 songs ready, then we will start to negotiate with various record labels and that also may take a while. Sooo, IF we are really lucky, we could have a new album out at the end of the year 2010, but I personally think, that 2011 sounds more realistic. But like I said, I can not promise anything. We'll just have to wait and see how things go."
MORS PRINCIPIUM EST is:
Ville Viljanen - Vocals
Mikko Sipola - Drums
Teemu Heinola - Bass
Tomy Laisto - Guitar
Kalle Aaltonen - Guitar

"It feels great to see my son Scott in a metal project", said the elder Scott LePage. "He has been writing and recording riffs mostly on his own for about a year now. He's also coming along nicely as a player.
"When he hooked up with these guys, the riffs he had and the riffs the other guitar player Tim had, included with the insane drummage by Brandon, and Shelby's screaming all merged nicely into cool modern metal sound, but still real heavy.
"It almost feels like it's time to pass the torch. Yes, I said almost! I'm not through yet. I currently have my own original metal project, THE FREEZE TAG ASSASSINS."
Scott LePage senior will be performing reunion shows with HADES on Wednesday, April 21 at Dingbatz in Clifton, New Jersey and Saturday, April 24 at the Keep It True festival in Lauda-Königshofen, Germany.
