TARJA TURUNEN Announces Finnish Christmas Tour
 Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen will embark on a Christmas tour of Finland with renowned Finnish musicians Kalevi Kiviniemi, Marzi Nyman and Markku Krohn. They will perform in churches in Lappeenranta, Joensuu, Tampere, Haapajärvi and Seinäjoki and at the Sibelius Hall in Lahti.
During 2009, Tarja has performed only three times in Finland: at Rockperry festival in Vaasa, at SOI Suvessa classical music festival in Mäntyharju and with the Tampere Philarmonic Orchestra.
The upcoming shows will mark the last time Tarja will play Finland before the release of her second album, "What Lies Beneath", in 2010.
The dates are as follows:

DESOLATE WAYS Completes Work On New Album; \'Regret\' Single Posted Online
 Brazilian metallers DESOLATE WAYS have completed work on their third studio album with producer Roger "Earth" Fingle (BLOOD TEARS, SEDUCED BY SUICIDE). The CD will be released in Brazil before the end of the year via Die Hard Records.

DARZAMAT: New Song Posted Online
 Polish dark metallers DARZAMAT are streaming a brand new track, "Chimera", on their MySpace page. The song comes off the band's fifth full-length studio album, "Solfernus' Path", which is scheduled for release on August 28 in Europe via Massacre Records and in Japan through Spiritual Beast Records. The CD was recorded in Poland under the supervision of Jaroslaw Toifl, with whom the band had previously worked on 2005's "Transkarpatia" (Metal Mind Productions in Europe, MVD in the USA). There are two great guests on the album: KING DIAMOND's Andy La Rocque (guitar solo in "King of the Burning Anthems") and STONE SOUR's Roy Mayorga (opening intro). The artwork for the new CD was created by MentalPorn.com Agency, which has previously worked with such bands as DEATHSTARS and BEHEMOTH. The album was mixed by Jonas Kljellgren (SCAR SYMMETRY guitarist) of Black Lounge Studios in Avesta, Sweden.

DYING FETUS: Another New Song Posted Online
 Baltimore death metallers DYING FETUS are streaming another new track, "Descend Into Depravity", on their MySpace page. The song is the title cut of the band's forthcoming album, < which is scheduled for release on September 15 via Relapse Records. The follow-up to 2007's "War Of Attrition" was recorded at Wright Way Studios in the group's hometown with producer Steve Wright.

SINISTER: \'Prophecies Denied\' Live CD Due In September
 Dutch death metallers SINISTER will have the audio version of their August 24, 2006 concert at the Stodola Club in Warsaw, Poland released on CD on September 21 in Europe (via Metal Mind Productions) and December 1 in the USA (through MVD). The digipack edition is limited to 1,000 copies. Entitled "Prophecies Denied", the material was previously released in December 2006 as SINISTER's the first-ever live DVD, also featuring an interview with the band's frontman Aad Kloosterwaard and guitarist Alex Paul as well as a documentary, "Angels of the Apocalypse", plus rare footage.

NIGHTWISH Singer Defends Her Decision To Work On Solo Album
 NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon has commented on her decision to work with Swedish producer/songwriter Anders Bagge on material for her upcoming solo album, which she plans to record during the band's downtime in early 2010. According to Anette, the as-yet-untitled CD "is, of course, just in the starting stage], but I will contribute doing the songs together with [Anders and other songwriters] and I will start that immediately. Anders is thinking on his side and me here... Then we meet and try out the ideas and we'll see what it will be like. But yeah, rocky it will be for sure. Not metal, but rock."
Regarding how her decision to work on a solo album will affect her status in NIGHTWISH, Olzon states, "You all know I love that band, and, of course, this is not a solo career, but an album. I can't sit and do nothing for maybe 1.5-2 years [while NIGHTWISH is preparing to record a new studio album]. None of the guys can either. Marco [Hietala, NIGHTWISH bassist/vocalist] has TAROT and several other bands and projects, Emppu [Vuorinen; NIGHTWISH guitarist] has BROTHER FIRETRIBE and projects, Tuomas [Holopainen; NIGHTWISH keyboardist and main songwriter] [has] bands and projects and Jukka [Nevalainen; NIGHTWISH drummer] [has] his merch company. So, I need something too. And I don't want another band, 'cause I have NIGHTWISH. Then a solo will be just perfect. I can decide when and what I will tour or perform, all in the aspect of when NIGHTWISH will do something new. We don't know that. It's all in Tuomas' hands and he is the creator. We are the instruments."
She adds, "I hope people can stop thinking that the singer CAN'T do anything else but the instrumentalists can. I have the same right as my fellow band members to do anything on the side when NIGHTWISH is not playing or touring.
"I am, for sure, excited and I know I have my part to play with the songs and the album and I have already started thinking of songs and lyrics. It was a long time since I did songs, but I will soon be back in business."

BURNING POINT Films JALOMETALLI Performance For DVD, Begins Work On New Studio Album
 Finnish metallers BURNING POINT filmed their performance at this year's Jalometalli metal music festival — which was held August 14-15, 2009 at Club Teatria in Oulu, Finland — for a forthcoming DVD. The band says, "a huge editing process is on the way and the few clips we've seen so far… Oh man, it will look awesome!"
BURNING POINT is currently working on its as-yet-untitled fifth CD, tentatively due in 2010. The group says, "We have about 15 brand new songs to work on for the next album. [On August 26], Jussi [Ontero] recorded drums to five new [tracks]."
BURNING POINT is featured on "ReUnation - A Tribute To Running Wild", the upcoming tribute to German metal legends RUNNING WILD which will contain cover versions of songs exclusively from the albums "The Rivalry" (1998), "Victory" (2000), "The Brotherhood" (2002) and "Rogues En Vogue" (2005). | 0 | |

The track comes off the group's new album, "Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us", which will be released on September 28 in Europe and October 6 in the U.S. via Century Media Records.  "Hard to See", the new video from Los Angeles metallers FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, can be viewed below. The clip was shot last month with director Matt Silverman (AIMEE ALLEN, RAMI DEAREST). The track will appear on "War Is The Answer", which is scheduled for release in the U.S. on September 22 via Prospect Park Records. DARK TRANQUILLITY To Enter Studio Tomorrow
 Swedish melodic death metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY will enter the studio tomorrow (Friday, August 28) to begin recording their ninth album for an early 2010 release via Century Media Records. The band previously said, "We'll keep the recording setup completely in-house this time. Drums will be tracked in Daniel Antonsson's [bass] studio, while the remaining instruments will be immortalized in Martin Brändström's [electronics] newly renovated Rogue music facilities. The mixing duties will once again be handled by Tue Madsen in his Antfarm studio in Denmark.
"As for the music itself, it's a bit too early to delve into details, but the material feels diverse and fresh and covers all the facets of the DARK TRANQUILLITY sound. Those who are familiar with our songwriting process know that we always keep re-arranging and experimenting with the material until the recording starts, and while we currently have the basic foundations for around 10 songs, many things are still open. The final result is likely to surprise ourselves as well as you people.
"Some tentative song titles are 'I Am The Void', 'Zero Distance', 'The Burden Of Love Alive', 'Archangelsk' and 'Memories In Reverse', though these are subject to change as usual."

Former HELLOWEEN Singer To Guest On AVANTASIA Album
 Former HELLOWEEN vocalist Michael Kiske will guest on the forthcoming album from EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project.
Kiske has appeared on every AVANTASIA album so far, including the first two full-length releases, "The Metal Opera" (2001) and "The Metal Opera Pt. II" (2002).
Commented Tobias: "Michael's voice and singing have had a huge influence on me when I was young. HELLOWEEN's 'Eagle Fly Free' lit the spark for me back then; it made me want to become a singer at age 12.
"Michael appears on several songs; two are fast and anthemic tunes, my personal 'Eagle Fly Frees,' if you want. Crystal clear and high singing. If uptempo music sounds like that, I don't get tired of it. And still, it is not a copy of early HELLOWEEN or early AVANTASIA.
"It's great to have Michael sing those kinds of tunes. He's a good guy! Great job, great voice!"

THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD In Recording Mode
 THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD has entered Geller Cellar Studios in New York to begin recording the band's as-yet-untitled third full-length album. The group is self-producing the effort, with Eliot Geller engineering, for an early 2010 release via Prosthetic Records.
Due to "scheduling conflicts," the South Carolina-based group will **NOT** be mixing the album at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida with Erik Rutan (CANNIBAL CORPSE, SIX FEET UNDER, GOATWHORE).  U.K. doom metal legends MY DYING BRIDE have completed work on their new EP, "Bring Me Victory", at Futureworks studio in Manchester.

MAGNUM Frontman To Guest On New AVANTASIA Album
 MAGNUM vocalist Bob Catley will guest on the forthcoming album from EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project.
Catley toured with AVANTASIA in 2008 when he was part of the live ensemble that travelled around the globe.
The vocal session took place at the Viper Room Recording Studio in England under the watchful eye of Vinny Burns.

MALPRACTICE Continuing Work On New Material
 MALPRACTICE, the Finnish progressive metal band featuring members of TO/DIE/FOR, MANITOU, OMNIUM GATHERUM and REVERSION, has issued the following update:
"We are currently writing material for our fourth studio album. We have already four full songs written which means about 30 minutes worth of new kick-ass material! The next album is planned for the beginning of 2010. Meanwhile, since the 'Triangular Tour' is over, check out the 'Triangular Tour' diary from our forum. The diary is in English and Finnish. You can also observe how the songwriting process is progressing from the brand new 'Studio Diary 2009' section which is being updated along the way."
MALPRACTICE's third album, "Triangular", was released in March 2008 via Spinefarm Records. The CD was recorded at Astia studio with producer Anssi Kippo and Southeast Sounds in Karhula with Teemu Aalto. It was mixed by Anssi Kippo.
While still progressive and melodic, "Triangular" also saw the return of some of the thrashier elements in MALPRACTICE and combined with the virtuoso skills of the new vocalist Aleksi Parviainen, "Triangular" takes MALPRACTICE to a whole new level of excellence, making the listener think about QUEENSRŸCHE meeting MEGADETH meeting DREAM THEATER. Much like their heroes, MALPRACTICE certainly know their way around different moods and atmospheres, ranging from "Waves"' fragile tranquility to "Triangular"'s instrumental extravaganza and "Symmetry"'s almost poppy choruses. | 0 | |

 "Wrong Answer", the new video from the Richmond, Virginia crossover act MUNICIPAL WASTE, can be viewed here. The clip, which was filmed in New York City with director David Brodsky (SUICIDE SILENCE, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, IN THIS MOMENT) and his crew at MyGoodEye, is said to have been inspired by '70s game shows, gore, and more.
"Wrong Answer" comes off MUNICIPAL WASTE's new album, "Massive Aggressive", which was released on August 25 via Earache Records. According to a press release, the CD "brings the promise of the band's most ferocious and most focused album of their career." With such ferocity flowing through the whole of the album, the group knew it needed the right visuals to complement the vibe of the music. MUNICIPAL WASTE vocalist Tony Foresta claims that the only man who could get that imagery just right was Andrei Bouzikov, the artist responsible for the cover to 2007's "The Art Of Partying".
"We wanted to work with Andrei Bouzikov again because he is like a brother to us," says Foresta. "He is one of the few people that can tolerate me and Ryan's insane pickiness and attention to detail. Not only that but he is multi talented and can do many different styles of art and understands exactly where we are coming from."
The attitude on "Massive Aggressive" is quite different than any other MUNICIPAL WASTE record and the band needed the artwork to make it apparent from the very first glance. "We knew we wanted to stray away from the traditional painted covers that so many new 'thrash' bands seem to be doing since 'Hazardous Mutation' came out," says Tony. "We wanted the artwork to go a different direction the same way that our music has. I think we have achieved it." Overall, Tony and the rest of the band feel it's a perfect representation of where the band is today and show much gratitude for how it turned out. "I'm really happy with it. It's my favorite one yet," the frontman says.
