MR. BIG: \'Budokan - Reunion Tour 2009\' DVD Preview Available
 The reunited original lineup of MR. BIG will release "Budokan - Reunion Tour 2009" in Japan on CD/DVD and Blu-ray on September 9. The set features footage of the band's June 20, 2009 performance at Budokan in Tokyo, Japan.

MR. BIG released a new "best-of" album titled "Next Time Around" on April 29 through WHD Entertaiment. The collection includes songs that were voted on by fans and contains two previously unreleased songs, "Next Time Around" (2009 remastered version) and "Hold Your Head Up" (2009 remastered version). It was made available as a limited deluxe edition with a bonus DVD.
In an interview with BigMusicGeek.com, MR. BIG bassist Billy Sheehan stated about the band's decision to reunite, "One of the beginnings of that was when (guitarist) Paul (Gilbert) played on (my solo record) 'Holy Cow' on the song 'Dynamic Exhilarator'. It was the first time we had worked in a studio together since we had been in MR. BIG together. We jammed a zillion times and we hang out together a lot because we're both here in L.A., but we never actually thought about working together. When he came in to do the solo on 'Dynamic Exhilarator', we had a blast. It was awesome. He did a great, great solo. The first one is amazing and the second one somehow tops it (laughs). So after that, we had a little more organized jam here in L.A. when he played with his band. Richie Kotzen was there and Pat Torpey was there and we played a couple of MR. BIG songs. The crowd went out of their minds and we were like, 'The only thing that could top this is if (vocalist) Eric (Martin) was here.' So a couple of e-mails started floating back and forth and the next thing you know, we said, 'Well, let's get together and have dinner just to hang,' and right at that point, we just said, 'Yeah, let's just do it.. The good thing about it is that nobody dangled cash in front of us. It didn't come from outside of us. It wasn't where someone had an idea and said, 'Yeah, let's put your band back together. Let's put you on a bus somewhere for six months before you break up again.' So it actually came from us, from our desire to really want to play together again and how much we loved the band. It was self-generated and organic in that respect, so now it's going to happen again."  | 0 |  |

THESE ARE THEY Adds New Guitarist
 THESE ARE THEY — the Chicago-based death metal band featuring vocalist Paul Kuhr (NOVEMBERS DOOM), guitarist Steve Nicholson (ex-NOVEMBERS DOOM), bassist Wiley Wells (EARTHEN) and drummer Sasha Horn (TRIALS) — has announced the addition of guitarist Justin Jurgevich (HURTLOCKER) to the group's ranks. After many months of auditions, "Justin brings with him the perfect combination of his love for old school death metal, dedication to his instrument, and chemistry with the band which makes him the perfect addition," according to a press release.
THESE ARE THEY will release its full-length debut, "Who Linger" ( cover), on November 10 via Unruly Sounds/The End Records.

THESE ARE THEY's debut EP, "Who Manifest", came out on May 12 exclusively via The End Records' online mail order service, The Omega Order. It was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Chris Wisco at Belle City Sound in Racine, Wisconsin.
Thirteen years after departing NOVEMBERS DOOM, Nicholson reunited with Kuhr in 2008 in order to create something new and fresh. With the help of Wells, along with good friends Mike LeGros (DISINTER, EARTHEN) and drummer Evan Berry, a musical style was chosen, material was written, and THESE ARE THEY recorded its debut EP.
Guitar-driven, downtuned and powerful, the material is old-school Chicago death metal with flashes of BOLT THROWER, OBITUARY, and ENTOMBED and contains more headbanging hook than you can shake a fist at.
Paying tribute to the bands that have paved the way with their greatness, THESE ARE THEY will follow with their own take on a style of death metal that to this day has no equal in hook, power, and brutality.

EVERY TIME I DIE Taps Former DEAD AND DIVINE Drummer
 Ryan "Legs" Leger, former drummer for the Burlington, Ontario, Canada metalcore band DEAD AND DIVINE, has been tapped by Buffalo bruisers EVERY TIME I DIE for their upcoming tour, which is scheduled to kick off on September 8 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Leger made his live debut with EVERY TIME I DIE on Saturday, August 22 in Saginaw, Michigan According to the band, "'Legs' absolutely killed it."
EVERY TIME I DIE filmed a video for the track "Wanderlust" last month with director Chris Sims (PAPA ROACH, LAMB OF GOD, POISON THE WELL). The song comes off the band's new album, "New Junk Aesthetic", which is scheduled for release on September 15 via Epitaph Records.
"'New Junk Aesthetic' is not the next logical step in the progression of EVERY TIME I DIE," explained frontman Keith Buckley. "It is an evolutionary leap. It's as if we have morphed from a single-celled bacteria straight to the guy with the dirt bike that will let you watch his older sister suntan if you steal him a smoke from your parents. Certainly you may acknowledge similarities, but on a grand scale, they stand light years apart."

SLAYER: \'World Painted Blood\' Track Listing Revealed;
 Former Metal Edge editor-in-chief Phil Freeman has written the first track-by-track review of the new SLAYER album, "World Painted Blood" for MSN Music's Heavy Metal Superfan site. After describing each of the album's 11 tracks in detail, he concludes: "A lot of people say SLAYER hasn't really been great since 'Seasons in the Abyss'. Those people are wrong. The Paul Bostaph years had a lot to recommend them ('Diabolus in Musica' is a seriously underrated album), and 'Christ Illusion' showed that SLAYER could experiment with dissonance and melody, and kick their own playing and songwriting up a notch when they wanted to. The bandmembers have given a lot of interviews talking about how a lot of this album was written in the studio. Listening to it, you can't tell. That's really impressive. Much the way METALLICA's 'Death Magnetic' combined the thrash of their early years with the hard-rock grooves of their 1990s work, 'World Painted Blood' builds on the success of every SLAYER album before it. It's not a legacy-polishing effort; it's the next step in a still-ongoing journey. Highly recommended."

RIOT: \'Thundersteel\', \'The Privilege Of Power\' Albums To Be Reissued In Japan With Bonus Tracks
 Sony Music will reissue RIOT's classic albums "Thundersteel" (1988) and "The Privilege Of Power" (1990) albums on October 7 via HMV Japan. Each CD will be digitally remastered and will contain bonus tracks.
Metal Express Radio conducted an interview with the entire reunited "Thundersteel"/"The Privilege of Power"-era lineup of RIOT — Mark Reale (guitar), Tony Moore (vocals), Don Van Stavern (bass), Bobby Jarzombek (drums), and Mike Flyntz (guitars) — at the Sweden Rock festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden on June 6, 2009. The 18-minute chat is available for streaming at this location.
RIOT is currently writing material for a new studio album, which is tentatively set to be recorded this fall for an early 2010 release. One of the new songs, "Wings Are For Angels", was performed for the first time at Sweden Rock.
RIOT has announced three October shows in Japan, one of the band's premier markets going back to the classic "Rock City" days. Reale says, "We're excited to once again have the opportunity to play for our Japanese fans who've been so supportive over the years. ALICE COOPER Comments On Finnish Concert Ban
 Legendary rocker Alice Cooper tells Australia's Undercover News that he does not have an issue with being banned by a venue (Tampere Arena) in Finland. In fact, he says he respects their decision.
"It was one city in Finland who where the venue happens to be a very conservative venue," he tells Undercover News. "You know what?! Because I'm Christian myself, I just turned the other cheek."
While also is taking the shrug in a positive way he says, "I didn't quite understand it. Here is what I would say on that: If I were doing 'Macbeth' [Shakespeare's famous play], would it be okay? Everybody would say 'Macbeth' is fine. Well, 'Macbeth' is about twice as bloody as anything I would do."
As far as he is concerned, you can't please everyone. "There is always someone who is going to be a radical or fanatic who has there believes and I respect that," he says. "Find another venue. I don't care. There is nothing in my show that can be banned or I would have been banned all over the world."
Legendary rocker Alice Cooper has confirmed to Australia's Undercover News that he will guest on the forthcoming solo album from VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash.

RUSH Drummer Welcomes New Daughter
 RUSH drummer Neil Peart and his wife, photographer Carrie Nuttall, are the proud parents of a new "healthy, beautiful" daughter, Olivia Louise Peart, according to a posting on the band's official web site.
Peart, 56, currently resides in Santa Monica, California with his wife, but also has a home in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec and spends time in Toronto for recording purposes.
On August 10, 1997, Peart's 19-year-old daughter, Selena Taylor, was killed in a single-car accident on Highway 401 near the town of Brighton, Ontario. His common-law wife of 22 years, Jacqueline Taylor, succumbed to cancer only 10 months later, (on June 20, 1998). Peart, however, stated later that Jacqueline's death was the result of a "broken heart" and called it "a slow suicide by apathy. She just didn't care."

TIM \'RIPPER\' OWENS To Guest On New AVANTASIA Album
 Powerhouse heavy metal singer Tim "Ripper" Owens (JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR) will guest on the forthcoming album from EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project.
Commented Tobias: "I had this pretty heavy riff monster and I remembered a JUDAS PRIEST live album with 'the new singer' on vocals. I listened again and when I heard him sing 'Metal Gods' and 'Painkiller', I knew that this was the voice I so desperately needed for the song.
"Tim is a cool guy and a scream machine. He makes his voice spit out the most aggressive high notes I have ever heard while fully controlling it.
"I am so proud of the heaviest metal tune I have written so far, and Tim has turned a good heavy metal song into the ultimate heavy metal monster!"

Regarding the new AVANTASIA album's musical direction, Sammet recently stated, "We've got quite many songs, and it ranges from epic ballads to metal opera. From pop to hard rock to folk to speed metal. My best friend, who co-wrote the story of 'The Metal Opera' back then, just listened to some of the tracks and he said that it will blow people away and enchant AVANTASIA fans and it will surely piss people off . . . It's just enchanting music. And these days honest and good music is kind of offending to some, that's pretty sick, isn't it? But as long as I get goose bumps hearing majestic music, I do not really care if I am fashionable or not."
The most recent album from AVANTASIA, "The Scarecrow", was one of the 20 best-selling albums in whole Europe during the fourth week of January 2008, according to a press release.
"The Scarecrow" was released on January 25, 2008 as a standard CD as well as rare picture (double) vinyl. It features a long list of guest musicians, including Bob Catley, ex-MASTERPLAN frontman Jorn Lande, ex-HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske, Alice Cooper, KISS drummer Eric Singer, SCORPIONS guitarist Rudolf Schenker and GAMMA RAY's Kai Hansen. The album produced a Top 10 German hit single, "Lost In Space", and entered the national charts in 15 countries, with the CD landing in the Top 10 in four countries.

GWYNBLEIDD: Debut Album Details Revealed
 GWYNBLEIDD's debut album, "Nostalgia", is scheduled for release on October 27 via BlackCurrant Music.
Founded and based in New York City, GWYNBLEIDD is a band whose four members all hail originally from Poland. It is this experience — leaving one's homeland — that served as the original inspiration for "Nostalgia". GWYNBLEIDD guitarist/vocalist Maciej Kupiszewski explains: "The concept for the album started with the theme of nostalgia — memories of childhood and places left behind, influenced mainly by the fact that the members of the band all moved from Poland to the States in their early teens. Although the band is based in Brooklyn, New York, in the heart of the biggest city in the U.S., the music conveys a yearning toward primeval and pristine wilderness landscapes. We took this theme of nostalgia and developed a whole story around it — a paradoxical tale of yearning, deceit, and treason."
"Nostalgia" showcases GWYNBLEIDD's signature style, blending elements of progressive metal, black metal, death metal, and traditional European folk music.
The album was recorded by Michal Kacunel and Tomasz Gajewski at Sia Acoustics, New York, NY, and mixed by Pawel Marciniak at Manximum Studio, Lodz, Poland. The CD was mastered by Alan Silverman (THE KINKS, CHEAP TRICK) at Arf! Digital, New York, NY. Renowned artist Travis Smith (KING DIAMOND, SOILWORK) collaborated with GWYNBLEIDD to create album art that helps tell the story of "Nostalgia"; the CD version of "Nostalgia" comes packaged in a digipack with an extensive 20-page booklet, designed by Smith and the band.

CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN Putting Finishing Touches On New Album
 Pennsylvania's CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN has issued the following update:
"Just a little update on the status of 'Psalm of the Grand Destroyer', the upcoming CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN full-length recording.
"Although the music was recorded in November of 2008, various circumstances effectively sidelined the progression and release since then. Thankfully, this is no longer the case. All of the vocals were laid down yesterday morning by Joe [Horvath], bringing about an end to a great recording session with Nate Campisi at Pittsburgh's Mr. Small's Recording and Mastering Studio. MEGADETH\'s MUSTAINE Apologizes To AC/DC For His \'Offensive\' Comments
 MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following update:
"I just read the [Metal Hammer article where I talk] about Acca Dacca, and I am so disappointed in how I said what I said.
"No excuses; I didn't say what I was trying to say, and what I said is rude and childish. Not my style (well, at least not my style for the last decade or so, thank God), and I am even offended at what I said. I have never in thirty-plus years disrespected AC/DC one of my favorite bands in the whole world; I think I just got too comfortable and forgot that we were recording and I was being an ass.
"My apologies to my friends, especially Brian [Johnson]; that just did not come out right at all and I'm sorry, bro."
In the Metal Hammer article in question, Mustaine was quoted as saying the following about AC/DC and how MEGADETH's live shows differ from those of the Anglo-Australian hard rock legends: "I love AC/DC and I've always been a fan of AC/DC. Bon Scott was my frontman. I love and respect Brian, but it's the same record. They've been making the same record for 20 years. I love 'em, but it's the same stuff, so you don't need to buy the record, just go to the concert. With us, it's kind of like the concert's always the same, but the records change! Because we go out live and what do people want us to do?! They want to hear 'Holy Wars', they want to hear 'Rust In Peace', they want to hear stuff off that record… guys, I've got 12 records and I can't fit all of that stuff into one hour! There's over 100 songs to play! 'Hey, play this song!' Yeah, like I'm gonna just remember that song out of the blue! Do I look like a fuckin' jukebox?
He continued, "I remember we were in Germany one time and it was the anniversary of Bon Scott's death and we said, 'Let's do an AC/DC song tonight!' and we did 'Problem Child'. About halfway through that song, I realized I'd forgotten how high his voice is when he's singing. So when I was done with that song, I went back and I told Shawn [Drover, MEGADETH drummer], 'Don't ever let me do that again!' [Laughs]"

BARREN EARTH Signs With PEACEVILLE RECORDS
 BARREN EARTH, the new Helsinki, Finland-based project featuring members of KREATOR, MOONSORROW, SWALLOW THE SUN and MANNHAI, has inked a deal with Peaceville Records. The band has been busy recording its debut album at the renowned Seawolf Studios in Helsinki, with the tracks currently being mixed by Dan Swanö (KATATONIA, OPETH, NOVEMBRE). An EP is due November 2009, with the full-length CD currently scheduled for an early 2010 release.
Commented bassist Olli-Pekka Laine (MANNHAI, CHAOSBREED, ex-AMORPHIS): "Getting signed by Peaceville Records is a great honor, as they are one of the very few metal labels left who have a passion and feeling for the music they release. To us, it also feels like coming home, because in a way they carry a big responsibility for BARREN EARTH's existence by having released the most important albums from pioneers such as AUTOPSY and PARADISE LOST. Those albums played a huge role, when we sucked our musical mother’s milk in the late '80s and early '90s. This is a fact that should be noticeably evident in BARREN EARTH's sound and music. Hopefully BARREN EARTH will also be able to add a fresh spin to Peaceville's already-impressive roster."
Formed in the fall of 2007, BARREN EARTH's music "combines elements of modern and traditional (death) metal with '70s prog rock and folk," according to the group's official bio. "Among the band's influences are artists like PARADISE LOST, OPETH, PINK FLOYD, JETHRO TULL and also some pioneers of Finnish prog. The members' individual backgrounds in many internationally known and acclaimed outfits is a testament to the quality of the band's music. These same backgrounds are obviously also echoed in BARREN EARTH's music."
BARREN EARTH entered Jive Studios in Helsinki last summer to record several tracks which can now be streamed via the band's MySpace page.

EVERGREEN TERRACE: \'Almost Home\' Track Listing Unveiled
 Jacksonville, Florida's EVERGREEN TERRACE has finalized the track listing for its new full-length album, "Almost Home", due out September 29 via Metal Blade Records.
Continuing its blistering combination of melodic hardcore and metal, EVERGREEN TERRACE has gone back to its roots on "Almost Home". "I think this record will surprise the new listeners as well as have the old ones stoked," stated guitarist Josh James. " I'd say its best described as a good mixture of 'Burned Alive by Time' [2002] and 'Wolfbiker' [2007]."
Splitting the recording process of the album in half, the band tracked all the music at Martell Studios and all of the vocals at AudioHammer (AUGUST BURNS RED, BURY YOUR DEAD, TRIVIUM, etc.).
"We've always had a lot of pop culture references in our song titles and this record is no exception," said James. "Before we even started writing new songs, we already have a list of titles from books, movies, and comedians. Half of the song titles on this record are pulled from the lyrics. The others are pop culture references that relate to the lyrical content."

HANOI ROCKS: DVD Of Final Concert In The Works
 Legendary Finnish rockers HANOI ROCKS filmed their final show on April 12, 2009 at Tavastia in Helsinki, Finland for a forthcoming DVD. Vocalist Michael Monroe states, "It's sounding pretty good. Surely it's got some rough spots, but what the hell, it's live — no overdubs! Considering that it was the eighth show in six days, my voice was holding up quite well..."
A release date for the DVD has not yet been announced.

OZZY OSBOURNE At BLIZZCON: Video Footage, Photos Are Here
 OZZY OSBOURNE has just finished playing a 10-song set at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California as part of the closing ceremonies at BlizzCon. His backing band for the concert consisted of guitarist Gus G. (FIREWIND), drummer Tommy Clufetos (ROB ZOMBIE, ALICE COOPER, TED NUGENT), bassist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson (ROB ZOMBIE) and keyboardist Adam Wakeman.
Nine-year-old guitar prodigy Yuto Miyazawa joined Ozzy and the rest of his group on stage to perform the Osbourne classic "Crazy Train".

SYBREED: \'The Pulse Of Awakening\' Track Listing, Artwork Revealed
 Swiss metallers SYBREED will release their third album, "The Pulse of Awakening", this fall via Listenable Records. The CD was mixed and mastered by Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, FEAR FACTORY, PARADISE LOST), and it is said to sound "immense." The vocals and the drums for the follow-up to 2007's "Antares" were laid down at the SDF studios in Lausanne, while the guitar and bass were tracked at the Drone studio in Geneva. The cover artwork (see here) was handled by Seth from SEPTICFLESH.
According to the band, "The Pulse Of Awakening" will feature such songs as "Nomenklatura", which is being described as "a groovy, technical and hypnotic piece of industrial metal"; "Electronegative", which is "equally technical but with an intense 'right-in-ya-face,' down-to-up-tempo pace"; and "Doomsday Party", which "sounds like the illegitimate progeny of EBM beats, synth-pop melodies and metal riffing."

 "Love Is The Devil (And I Am In Love)", the latest video from the from Icelandic metal band SÓLSTAFIR, can be viewed below. The song comes off the group's latest album, "Köld", which was released in February via Spikefarm Records. The clip was written and directed by the band's drummer, Gummi Tormentor.

SLIPKNOT Drummer Hospitalized; Band Cancels 'Pain In The Grass' Appearance
 SLIPKNOT was forced to cancel its headlining appearance last night (Saturday, August 22) at Seattle radio station KISW 99.9 FM's Pain in the Grass 2009 event in Auburn, Washington as drummer Joey Jordison had to be taken to the hospital for health reasons. According to the band, Jordison is expected to make a full recovery and will sit behind the kit for SLIPKNOT's performance tonight (Sunday, August 23) in Kennewick, Washington.
Other bands that appeared at KISW 99.9 FM's Pain in the Grass 2009 concert included STEEL PANTHER, STATIC-X, SALIVA, CHEVELLE and MUDVAYNE.
Last year, SLIPKNOT cancelled several European festival appearances as well as performances for MTV Europe and Virgin TV after Jordison broke his ankle and was advised to rest for four to six weeks.
Jordison toured North America as a guest drummer with SATYRICON in late 2004 after the band's regular skinsman Frost was denied a visa due to heightened homeland security concerns. Jordison also toured with MINISTRY and famously sat in for METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich when the drummer fell ill and could not make it to a massive U.K. festival in the summer of 2004.
