DEW-SCENTED: New Album Title Revealed
 German thrashers DEW-SCENTED have set "Invocation" as the title of their new album, tentatively due in May in Europe via Metal Blade Records. The band entered Soundlodge Studios in Northern Germany this past Monday (February 1) with producer Jörg Uken (GOD DETHRONED, SINISTER) to begin recording the CD. The cover artwork is being created by Björn Goosses of Killustrations.com.
Commented the group: "After some last preparations in our rehearsal room this past weekend, we started tracking drums at Soundlodge Studios with Jörg Uken on Monday. It's fucking freezing outside, but in terms of drumming things are going great so far and Marc-Andrée is on fire!

AVANTASIA: \'The Wicked Symphony\', \'Angel Of Babylon\' Track Listing Revealed
 EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project will celebrate its comeback this spring with a new epic masterpiece, to be released on April 3, 2010 as two separate albums and in a limited deluxe edition (in one box set) entitled "The Wicked Symphony" and "Angel Of Babylon".
The cover artwork for the two CDs (see below) was created by Thomas Ewerhard, who also worked on EDGUY's "Hellfire Club" and AVANTASIA's "The Scarecrow" albums.

THERION: New Album Title Revealed
 Swedish progressive/experimental metallers THERION are putting the finishing touches on their new album, "Sitra Ahra", which will be mixed at the legendary Polar Studios in Stockholm. 13 songs are being recorded for the CD, although it is presently unclear if all of the tracks will end up on the final record.

SCORPIONS: New Album Track Listing Revealed

REQUIEM Parts Ways With Singer
 Swiss death metallers REQUIEM have issued the following update:
"After 13 years vocalist Michi Kuster has decided to leave the band due to family reasons. It's not possible for him anymore to take part of the busy band schedule.
"Michi will play his last show with REQUIEM on February 11, 2010 at Dynamo, Zurich (Switzerland) supporting HYPOCRISY (Sweden).
"The whole band wishes him and his family all the best for the future. REQUIEM made the decision to continue as a three-piece band from now on.

AMORPHIS, THE 69 EYES Honored At Finland\'s EMMA GAALA
 Finnish metallers AMORPHIS were honored in the "Metal Album Of The Year" category (for 2009's "Skyforger") at this year's Emma Gaala (Finnish Grammy equivalent), which was held February 4 at Peacock-Teatteri in Linnanmäki. Other artists that were nominated in the "Metal Album" category were ENSIFERUM, SONATA ARCTICA and KOTITEOLLISUUS. Elsewhere, THE 69 EYES won the "Export" award athe annual event, which was televised on the Finnish TV channel YLE and can be streamed online in its entirety at the YLE Areena web site.

SOTHIS: \'Of Night And Silence\' Video Released
 "Of Night and Silence", the new music video from Los Angeles-based black
metallers SOTHIS, can be viewed below. The clip was shot in Los Angeles
with Csaba Fikker as director of photography and was directed and edited by the band's vocalist Drogoth, who also handled all of the visual effects.
"Of Night & Silence" is the opening track of SOTHIS' debut album, "De Oppresso Liber", which was tracked in Los Angeles and mixed by KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy LaRocque at his Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden.

TAROT: New Album Artwork, Release Date Revealed

AVATAR Signs With SONY For German Release Of New Album
 Swedish metallers AVATAR have inked a deal with Sony Music Entertainment for the German release of the band's third, self-titled album. The CD will be made available in Germany on March 26 and in the rest of Europe on February 22 via Gain Music Entertainment.
AVATAR's latest video, "Queen Of Blades", can be viewed below. The clip was filmed on November 27, 2009 at Brew House in Gothenburg and was helmed by René U. Valdes of Greenworks.

BURZUM - Updated Belus Tracklisting, Lyrics Revealed
 BURZUM, featuring mastermind Varg Vikernes (aka Count Grishnackh), will release a new album, entitled "Belus", on March 8th via Byelobog Productions.

It's been 11 long years and now the world will see the return of Burzum. The highly anticipated new album is entitled Belus after the name of the ancient European solar deity of light and innocence. Belus is not a religious album or an anti-religious album, nor is it a political one, but an attempt to explore the myths about Belus and unveil the oldest roots of our cultural heritage. The album deals with the death of Belus, his sombre journey through the realm of death and his magnificent return. In essence the album and the story of Belus is meant to be an entertaining story about something that once upon a time played a major role in the forming and shaping of Europe.
"The album has been made according to my heart and spirit, and not to fit into any particular genre or category, or to live up to anyone's obvious expectations".
The music can best be compared to the music of some of the old Burzum albums; in particular the ground breaking Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and the atmospheric brilliances of Filosofem, only the ambient parts present on these albums has been almost completely left out on Belus.
"There is no special reason for this, other than coincidence and the fact that I have for some time made more and better music on the guitar rather than on the keyboard".
"Inspiration for the album has come from a variety of sources, and I find my inspiration from fairy tales and myths, from classical music, from memories of what once was, from traditional music, from fantasy, from the wind and weather, from deep forests and running water, from the sky and the sunset, from misty mountains and from yellow leaves falling from age old trees".
"My ambition with Belus is to create something I - and hopefully others too - can listen to for years and years to come without ever growing tired of it, and at the same time to share with my audience the experience of getting to know Belus, as he might have been perceived by the ancient Europeans."
The combination of lyrics and music makes this a fairy tale different from most others, and should appeal to all those who like transcendental music and love to see different things from a different perspective.
"If I can make you dream when listening to this album, I believe I have done a good job."
"I am aware of the black metal association with the name Burzum, and I have no real and serious problem with that, but I personally see no reason to place Belus in any category. I think Belus musically transcends all existing categories, but if I have to choose one - and for the sake of simplicity - I will simply place it in the metal category."
Belus will be released worldwide on Byelobog Productions on March 8th.

 HOLY RAGE, the UK act featuring former JUDAS PRIEST vocalist Al Atkins, have issued the following update from guitarist Chris Johnson:
"At the begining of the year Al began writing some new songs with the help and ideas of two other writers for the Holy Rage debut album and shocked us all by announcing that he wanted both of them to play a part in the band too.
After listening to the new songs that they had written (which by the way are awesome) and rehearsing together for the first time it really did sound like a killer idea and only not are we sounding even heavier, but also it seems like we have played together forever.

HOLY GRAIL Heads To The Studio; Debut Album Due In Late Spring
 Los Angeles-based metallers HOLY GRAIL will head in to the studio this month to record their debut album, Crisis In Utopia, due out on Prosthetic Records in late spring.
Acclaimed producer/remixer/musician Danny Lohner (NINE INCH NAILS, A PERFECT CIRCLE) will be at the production helm.
Previously known as SORCERER, Holy Grail features members from a former lineup of WHITE WIZZARD. Assembled less than a year ago, Holy Grail is already at the forefront of the new wave of metal that pays homage to such legends as IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST and DIO.
The band’s debut EP, Improper Burial (released in late 2009), featuring just two original tracks and two covers, has earned Holy Grail significant press accolades. JOE PERRY Confirms STEVEN TYLER Tried Out For LED ZEPPELIN
 According to The Pulse of Radio, Joe Perry confirmed the rumors that Steven Tyler did indeed try out for LED ZEPPELIN shortly after Robert Plant passed on reuniting with the band in 2008. For the first time Perry shared the details of Tyler's ill-fated attempt to front ZEPPELIN, telling Classic Rock magazine, "Steven disappeared and I called around. Somebody said he was in London trying out for LED ZEPPELIN. It's something I've never talked about before. It's a kind of window into how hard it's been to keep the partnership together. It's not the first time things like this have happened— that's the downside of our relationship."
According to what Jimmy Page told Perry, the rehearsals were "shambolic," with Tyler unfamiliar with the ZEPPELIN catalogue and under the impression they would be working on new material.
Perry added: "Page felt really awkward about the audition, but ultimately it was a group decision (to pass on Tyler)."
Perry spoke to Arkansas City, Kansas radio station KACY 102.5 FM and admitted that having Paul Rodgers replace Tyler in AEROSMITH was a thought, and that he plans to record some solo tracks with Rodgers in the future.
When asked if he would be amenable to having a female singer replace Tyler, Perry said: "Oh, definitely! No one in the band's brought that up, but sometimes. . . You've gotta think out of the box. Oddly enough, a lot of the bands I was in before I had AEROSMITH, I had female singers in the band and it was really good — a lot of great songs. So that's definitely a possibility."

DAN SWANÖ Issues Update On SECOND SKY Project
 Swedish multi-instrumentalist/producer Dan Swanö (NIGHTINGALE, EDGE OF SANITY, BLOODBATH) has issued the following update on the new SECOND SKY LP:
"The album is coming along nicely. If all goes according to plans, we will re-record the drums with Peter Damin in Soundlab starting Sunday next week.
The original drum recording is fantastic playingwise, but it isn't recorded as well I need it (it was done with a mobile studio in Peter Damin's little red house in May 2004). Once the drums are re-recorded, I am one step closer to getting where I want this album to be sound-wise.
"I am sorry to keep you waiting, but the album will be out when it's ready. This is a very special album for me (and for Peter Edwinzon too) so there is nothing to be gained from releasing this album before we both feel it is as good as it can be.
"I just want to clearify that I have in no way been working non-stop with this album. There have been many periods of 6-7 months where I haven't even opened the folder on the harddrive.
"I am actually happy that it's taken so long. These songs deserve the best treatment they can get, and my current computer and speaker setup is the best I have ever had and I have learned so much about mixing and mastering since this album was initiated."

RATT - Infestation Tracklisting Revealed
 It’s no secret that RATT are back and raring to go. The band is proud to announce April 20, 2010 as the release date for their Loud & Proud debut, Infestation, an 11-song opus that is their first studio record in 11 years. The first single, 'Best Of Me', is scheduled to impact rock radio on February 21. The song is available below.
There’s been a flurry of activity in the Ratt camp in the past few years. Vocalist Stephen Pearcy has returned to the fold and the band has since signed to Loud & Proud/Roadrunner. The legendary Los Angeles rock squad, also featuring guitarist Warren DeMartini, drummer Bobby Blotzer, bassist Robbie Crane and new guitarist Carlos Cavazo, engineered Hollywood’s much-heralded Sunset Strip sound in the 1980s.
“We wanted this to be like something that we would have written right after [1984’s] Out Of The Cellar, Pearcy said. “We definitely went back to basics with the mindset of a band with a lot of excitement and some great songs to get out.” Infestation was produced by Elvis Baskette (CHEVELLE, ALTER BRIDGE) in the helmer’s Virginia studio, marking the first time the band has recorded outside of Los Angeles. The album is full of attitude and of reflection, cycling through a range of emotions. There are party anthems that Ratt are known for alongside more contemplative, thoughtful tunes. UNEARTH - New \'Crow Killer\' Video Available
 Bloody-Disgusting.com is currently hosting the exclusive premier of UNEARTH's brand new video for the track ‘Crow Killer’, off the band’s latest album The March.
You can watch the video below. This is a new version of the live video Unearth shot back in 2009 as a part of their bonus DVD that was released with the Special Edition of The March on November 11th 2009.
Vocalist Trevor Phipps comments: “The new 'Crow Killer' video is a combination of both club and festival show footage as well as behind the scenes clips from tour. This edit of the video is different than the one seen on the special edition of The March as it is more of a compilation of what is on the special DVD itself. Former GORGOROTH Frontman Named \'Homosexual Of The Year\'
 Last week the annual Bergen Gay Galla was held, and various awards were presented to persons and institutions that have contributed to the gay community in Bergen, Norway.
The most prestigious award was given to Kristian Espedal (a.k.a. Gaahl). The former GORGOROTH vocalist was named "Homosexual Of The Year" and accepted the award in person.
"I don't need an award to be myself. But if this can help other people in the same scene as me, it's a positive thing," Gaahl told local newspaper Bergensavisen.
Gaahl, 34, is involved in a relationship with 19-year-old Robin Jakobsen (pictured below with Gaahl).
When asked how he met his current partner, Gaahl said, "It was after closing time. I was at Fincken (gay bar in Bergen). Robin came to the club to look for his former boyfriend. I was buzzed on white wine, and suddenly I saw a glowing figure in the door. That was Robin. I thought to myself that he must be mine."
Was it love at first sight?
"No…I had to work a little for it."
Were people surprised when you came out as a homosexual?
"I think it's strange that it wasn't known before, but I never had a need to go public with it. Finally a German journalist had the guts to ask the question, and I answered him. It wasn't any more painful than that."
