AS I LAY DYING: New Album Title Announced

BLINDED BY FAITH Preparing To Enter Studio
 Québec City, Quebec, Canada-based metallers BLINDED BY FAITH are preparing to enter the studio to record three new songs ("The Pace Of The Race", "Dead End" and "Drastic Medicine"), to be used to procure a new record deal. AXEL RUDI PELL To Release \'The Crest\' In April
 With an impressive 20 releases in 21 years, the AXEL RUDI PELL band counts among the most consistent, lasting and creative acts in the whole of Europe. Very few German guitarists can point to as long and successful a career as the musician from Bochum, whose unmistakable signature marks not only his characteristic guitar style, but also his compositional skills.
On April 26, 2010 (Germany: April 23, 2010), Axel will release his thirteenth studio offering, "The Crest", a haunting album featuring ten brand-new compositions.
"Our fans will get just the kind of songs they have come to know and expect from me and my band," says Pell.
"The Crest" was recorded at W:A:T: Studios in Bochum by the tried-and-tested lineup consisting of Axel Rudi Pell, American vocalist Johnny Gioeli, keyboardist Ferdy Doernberg, bassist Volker Krawczak and drummer Mike Terrana. The album was produced by Axel Rudi Pell, with the engineering help of Torsten Sickert, and mixed by Charlie Bauerfeind at the Mi Sueno Studios (Teneriffe) and the Twilight Hall Studios (Grefrath). The majestic cover artwork was created this time by the English artist Martin McKenna.
The fans can look forward to Axel's next tour in May 2010, festival appearances in the summer and a second part of the tour in autumn 2010.
Axel Rudi Pell recently signed a new worldwide deal with SPV/Steamhammer.

MEMOIRA Announces New Singer
 Finnish metal band MEMOIRA has announced the addition of female vocalist Kati Rantala (pictured below) to the group's ranks. The band states, "We were blown away by her vocal abilities and her work ethic!
"We were surprised that how easy the whole process was and the amount of time that it took.
"We are excited and really looking forward to hit the studio after we have finished the songwriting process! "

DIMMU BORGIR Working On \'Grand, Huge, Epic And Primal\' New Album
 Guitarist Silenoz (real name: Sven Atle Kopperud) of Norwegian black metallers DIMMU BORGIR recently spoke to U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band's follow-up to 2007's "Il Sorte Diaboli".
"The words that come to mind, if we should even try and attempt at describing [the new material] at this point, would be something like: grand, huge, epic and primal," he said. "It has this eerie and haunting feel to it. Atmosphere and ambience!
He continued, "It's hard to say anything distinct or speak objectively about the new material when you're in the middle of the writing process — we're too close to it at this stage — but we'd be lying if we said it's not good. We're very confident in the new material and we believe it'll raise a few eyebrows. We might even have to trim our own!"
Regarding why the wait between albums seems to be getting longer for DIMMU BORGIR, Silenoz said, "Because we want the next album to be a better and stronger one. We're more critical of each process and we take the time it needs. Quality is, at the end of the day, in the eye of the beholder, but once we start rushing things, like trying to write music while on tour to speed things up — forget about it. We've tried it before and it didn't work. We focus 110 percent on one thing at a time. Plus, if we'd release an album every year, where would the expectation be? Where would the excitement be?"

METALLICA Receives Gold, Platinum In Brazil
 This past weekend, METALLICA was presented with a gold plaque signifying Brazilian sales in excess of 45,000 copies of the band's 2008 album, "Death Magnetic". The band also received a platinum award recognizing sales in Brazil of more than 60,000 copies of the group's "Orgullo, Pasión Y Gloria - Tres Noches En La Ciudad De México" (Pride, Passion And Glory Three Nights In Mexico City) DVD — which was recorded on June 4, 6 and 7 of last year at Foro Sol in Mexico City. The award presentation was held Saturday afternoon (January 30), just hours before the band's performance at the Morumbi stadium in São Paulo. A 20-minute press conference followed the award presentation and can be viewed in four parts below.

A policeman was injured and 120 people arrested when rioting broke out outside METALLICA's January 26, 2010 concert in Santiago, Chile, according to the Latin American Herald Tribune. Authorities said that most of the arrests were made when hundreds of fans who did not have tickets attempted to force their way into the Club Hipico horse-racing grounds to see the show, which was attended by a crowd of more than 50,000. Police colonel Miguel Angel Castro said, "A group of people tried to enter without tickets and Carabineros (militarized police) had to act, launching water."
According to Emol.com, METALLICA's January 26, 2010 concert in Santiago, Chile was attended by Graciela Mora, a 76-year-old grandmother who is affectionately known as "Granny Metallica."
As her 16-year-old grandson, whom she invited to the concert, made his way to the front of the stage in order to get close to his idols, Mrs. Graciela gently worked her way through the crowd, leaning on her cane and stopping every so often to be photographed.
"Grandma, can I can take my picture with you?" fans could be heard shouting. "Granny Metallica" obliged, posing in a way that is very unusual for people her age: she wore a black METALLICA headband and flashed the "devil's horns," the universal symbol for heavy metal around the world.
"I love METALLICA. I've been a fan since I was young, and I brought my grandson because the last time [we were supposed to see METALLICA in 2003] we were disappointed. We had seats, but the band [ended up cancelling the show]. So this time it was now or never," she explained.

JUDAS PRIEST Wins GRAMMY For \'Best Metal Performance\'
 JUDAS PRIEST was honored with a Grammy in the "Best Metal Performance" category in the pre-telecast ceremony at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards, which are being held tonight (Sunday, January 31) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. JUDAS PRIEST was nominated for the track "Dissident Aggressor", from the band's 2009 live album "A Touch of Evil: Live". The band's lead vocalist Rob Halford and drummer Scott Travis accepted the award at the event.
In his acceptance speech, Halford said, "The fifth time is the charm." According to AOL's Noisecreep, he mentioned that PRIEST have been making metal for 25 years and that they still love what they do. He also remembered to thank all the radio stations and press that have supported the band, and he dedicated the award to all heavy metal fans.

STIGMA: New Album Title, Track Listing Revealed
 Italy's STIGMA has set "Concerto for the Undead" as the title for its follow-up to 2008's "When Midnight Strikes!", due on April 30 in Europe (except in the U.K., where it will arrive on May 3) and May 4 in North America via Pivotal Rockordings.

AC/DC: 30,000 Tickets To Horsens Concert Sold In 46 Minutes
 All 30,000 tickets to AC/DC's June 5, 2010 concert in Horsens, Denmark sold out within 46 minutes after they went on sale this past Friday, January 29.
Traffic to the web site of Billetlugen, a Danish company that sells tickets to concerts, was reportedly so massive during the time that AC/DC tickets were available that the site ground to a halt.
AC/DC was honored with a Grammy in the "Best Hard Rock Performance" category in the pre-telecast ceremony at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards, which are being held tonight (Sunday, January 31) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. AC/DC was nominated for the track "War Machine", from the band's 2008 album "Black Ice".

MIKAEL ÅKERFELDT Says OPETH\'s Contribution To \'God Of War\' Soundtrack Is \'Very Odd\'
 Guitarist/vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt of Swedish progressive metallers OPETH has issued the following update:
"I just finished and approved the mastering of a new song I wrote called 'The Throat Of Winter'. I wrote it for that game 'God Of War' that we're supposed to be included in, or however that works.
"Is it a digital album? I don't know how that shit works, but it's done anyways. Hell, I'm still with my turntables (got three of them) and right now I'm playing a Aussie original of 'High Voltage' by AC/DC.
"[The] song is very odd. It's good, I think, or for my taste it is, but even I can understand it's very... odd! [I] produced and recorded it from scratch and I'm happy with the sound, if I may say so myself. Fred [Fredrik Åkesson, OPETH guitarist] laid down a killer acoustic solo and Per [Wiberg, OPETH keyboardist] laid down an amazing twiddly tweet moog solo.
"It's not a very metal song, I'm saving up for that… later... yet it's got a metal mentality, or what I remember metal used to do to me. I can feel it, even though it's not a metal song per definition.
"Anyways, if you hear it I hope you like it.
"Me and Fred went to NAMM for a few days and it was fun fun FUN! Did some signing session and a [question-and-answer session] for PRS guitars.
"My signature guitar looked and felt amazing! Loved the neck of it! It was only a prototype so some adjustments will be made, but overall I'm fucking blown away by it. Fred liked it too very much and it seemed to attrack a lot of interest!
"The PRS people were real nice to us, as always, and I got to meet some nice people I hadn't met before. We might have had a few drinks too many but we had to do something to cope with the jetlag which was overwhelming.
"Looks like we might be going to the Frankfurt Musikmesse as well, right before those anniversary shows we're doing in March/April.
"OK, people...I'm off again. Even though we're off the road I feel busier than ever. I'm hyper and I've got a billion projects in the air it feels like..."

Artwork From MONSTROSITY Vocalist To Be Used In Hollywood Movie
 An assortment of death metal poster artwork from MONSTROSITY vocalist and album cover illustrator Mike Hrubovcak will be used as background set dressing for a location in the upcoming film "Dream House", a psychological, supernatural thriller that is currently in production and slated for a 2011 release.
Directed by Jim Sheridan ("In America", "The Boxer"), "Dream House" is a Universal Pictures / Morgan Creek feature film starring Daniel Craig (James Bond 007 in "Casino Royale") and Naomi Watts ("King Kong", "The Ring") .
Among some of Hrubovcak's artwork that will be used in the film are designs for the bands DECREPIT BIRTH, SINISTER, BRAIN DRILL, RUMPELSTILTSKIN GRINDER, ABRAXAS, AURORA BOREALIS, TENDERIZER, POLTERCHRIST, AZURE EMOTE, Party.San Festival and many others.
There is a young metal couple that share an apartment together and have death metal posters covering their walls.
The "Dream House" plot: Soon after moving into their seemingly idyllic new home, a family learns of a brutal crime committed against former residents of the dwelling, followed by a series of ominous occurrences. Daniel Craig is set to play a successful publishing executive who quits his job in New York City to relocate his family and two daughters to a beautiful house in a small New England town. They soon learn their home was once the murder scene of a mother and her children, believed to be at the hands of the husband who survived.

AC/DC\'s BRIAN JOHNSON Talks About Anniversary Of BON SCOTT\'s Death
 According to Voxy.co.nz, Tracey Donaldson of the New Zealand rock radio station The Rock spoke to AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson in a 15-minute interview that covered the band's current tour, their long history together, and the 30th anniversary (February 19, 1980) of the death of former lead singer Bon Scott.
When asked by Donaldson how the band will mark the anniversary this month, Johnson responded, "We're trying to think of something to do that's not morbid. We hate it when people try to use the anniversary as a sensation seeking thing, so we want it to be respectful. His two nephews and his brother will be in Perth, and we'll see his mum. I'm sure the fans will be out in force with Bon paraphernalia and we welcome that because he's still a part of the band, he's still a part of us."
Johnson also touched on the cancer scare that plagued him earlier in the "Black Ice" tour and resulted in the cancellation of a few concerts. "I found out I had Barrett's Syndrome and the next step is cancer of the esophagus, then they have to take the voice box out, which stopped me right in my tracks," he said. "I was very lucky we caught it in time. A lot of people think it's heartburn but I knew there was something really hurting me so I went straight to the top doctor. I was the most scared I've ever been in my life — I didn't sleep for a week."

LEVIATHAN: Live CD/DVD Details Revealed
 After a break of eleven years, the original lineup of the Colorado-based progressive metal band LEVIATHAN reunited for a special concert on January 9, 2010 at the Buffalo Rose in Golden, Colorado. The show was filmed and recorded for a double CD/DVD digipack, to be released later in the year. The set will contain a CD of the entire concert (around 75 minutes) as well as a DVD.
Commented guitarist/keyboardist John Lutzow: "I really want this to be different than any other bands DVDs I have ever seen. It has multiple visuals playing as holograms or ghosts in the corners.
"We had a huge projector screen playing to the right of the stage so those visuals come through the main camera feed also. Over the top I have still pictures fading in and out with transparency."

SEVERE TORTURE Signs With SEASON OF MIST
 Dutch death metallers SEVERE TORTURE. have inked a deal with Season Of Mist. The band is currently at Split Second Sound Studios in Amsterdam with producer Jochem Jacobs working on its upcoming fifth album for a spring/summer release.
Commented bassist Patrick Boleij: "We are very excited about signing to Season Of Mist! They have an amazing band roster and we can't wait to release our new album on the same label as THE DILLINGER ESCAPSE PLAN, CYNIC, MORBID ANGEL, WATAIN and many others. We already had our share of label experience in the past, some good, some bad, and we have the feeling that working with Season Of Mist is going to be a big step up for us!"

WITHIN TEMPTATION Singer To Guest On New OOMPH! Greatest-Hits
 German industrial rockers OOMPH! will release their first greatest-hits collection with English lyrics at the end of February. The compilation, titled "Truth or Dare", will contain re-recordings of some of the band's most famous songs. IN FLAMES, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SONIC SYNDICATE Honored At BANDIT ROCK AWARDS
 IN FLAMES, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and SONIC SYNDICATE are among the artists who were honored at last night's (Friday, January 29) Bandit Rock Awards at Tyrol in Stockholm, Sweden. The awards ceremony was organized and hosted by the Stockholm-based radio station Bandit Rock 106.3.

SOULGRIND: Two New Songs Posted Online
 SOULGRIND, the Finnish band featuring former LULLACRY frontwoman Tanja "Whisper Lilith" Kemppainen (a.k.a. Tanya), has posted two new songs — "The Call Of The Dancing Waters" and "Rain Before The Dawn" — on its MySpace page. The tracks will appear on the group's forthcoming ninth album, "The Tuoni Pathway", which is scheduled for release in April via U.K.'s Femme Metal Records. FUELBLOODED: \'The End Starts Here\' Video Available
 "The End Starts Here", the new video from the Dutch melodic death/thrash act FUELBLOODED, can be viewed below. The song comes off the band's sophomore album, "Off the Face of the Earth", which will be released on February 5 via My Kingdom Music. The CD was mixed and mastered by Jonas Kjellgren (SCAR SYMMETRY, THE ABSENCE, CARNAL FORGE, ONE MAN ARMY).

Mitte der Neunziger stürmten die kalifornischen Crossover-Pioniere weltweit die Charts, verbanden geschickt Hardcore, Punk, HipHop und Metal zu einem wunderbaren großen ganzen – und hatten dabei auch noch jede Menge zu sagen.
Dies tun sie jetzt wieder – siehe oben – auf ihrem neuem Werk, welches verdammt heavy, rotzig, wütend durch die Boxen drängt. Und dabei aber auch keine Angst vor großen Melodien und Ohrwurm-Refrains zeigt. Wie u.a. die Single "Renegade" beweist:

CRIONICS: New Song Available For Streaming
 A new song from Polish metallers CRIONICS entitled "Scapegoat (Welcome to Necropolis)" is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The track comes off the band's new EP, "N.O.I.R.", which will be released later this year through an as-yet-undetermined record label. The CD was mixed with the Wieslawski Bros. at their Hertz Studio in Bialystok. The CD, which was recorded at Cracow's Shindler Factory Studio, contains three new songs plus two covers: IMMORTAL's "Blashyrk (Mighty Ravendark)" and RAMMSTEIN's "Moskau", the latter of which features guest appearances by Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek (VADER) on vocals and Waclaw "Vogg" Kieltyka (VADER, DECAPITATED) on accordion and acoustic guitar.
