AEROSMITH Singer Breaks Shoulder In Stage Mishap
According to a Twitter message sent by Billie Perry, the wife of AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry, the band's singer, Steven Tyler, broke received stitches in his head and back following Wednesday's fall off the stage during a concert in South Dakota.
Tyler, 61, also broke his shoulder during the mishap, which occurred on the veteran rock band's ill-starred summer tour, an insider told Reuters on Thursday.
"Yes he is very sore," Billie Perry wrote, adding that there was no word yet on when the tour would resume.
Tyler accidentally stepped backward off a catwalk while performing "Love in an Elevator" for thousands of motorbike aficionados attending an annual gathering at Buffalo Chip Campground in the town of Sturgis.

Mark Jansen (EPICA, ex-AFTER FOREVER), Sander Gommans (HDK, ex-AFTER FOREVER) and Jack Driessen (ex-AFTER FOREVER) have joined forces in a brand new project which is currently writing material for what will eventually be released as the band's debut album.
Commented Gommans: "Having written songs together for AFTER FOREVER in the past, we feel that there is enough respect and creativity to work on new songs again. We're really happy with the material we've come up with so far, which made us decide to make our project public. This is a project that we'd like to do without any boundaries nor stress, we don't have a time schedule and we'd like to take the time for it."
EPICA's new album, "Design Your Universe", is due in Europe on October 16 via Nuclear Blast Records. The follow-up to 2007's "The Divine Conspiracy" was recorded at Gate Studio in Wolfsburg, Germany with producer Sascha Paeth.

SECRET SPHERE Announces Lineup Changes, Begins Writing New Material
Italian symphonic power metal band SECRET SPHERE has issued the following update:
"After ten years of SECRET SPHERE, we decided to change to members of the band: [Paolo] Paco Gianotti [guitar] and Antonio Agate [keyboards]. Antonio will continue to arrange the music for the new album but he is not a fixed member of the band.
"We wanna welcome two young talented guys: Marco Pastorino on rhythm guitars and Gabriele Ciaccia on keyboards. Some of you already saw them live with us in the last shows.
"We are already writing the new material absolutely more heavy always with the typical SECRET SPHERE touch! Soon we will post online the next live shows planned in some parts of Italy never played during these years and Europe for the next fall."
"Sweet Blood Theory", the latest album from SECRET SPHERE, was released in October 2008 via Dockyard 1. The CD was recorded between December 2007 and February 2008 at Authoma Studios by Federico Pennazzato and mixed in March 2008 at Germany's Indiscreet Audio by Achim Köhler (PRIMAL FEAR, BRAINSTORM).
According to a press release, "Sweet Blood Theory" is a concept album based on the novel "The Vampire", written by John William Polidori in 1814. The book is widely considered to be one of the earliest novels to include a vampire character.
To embrace the concept and create the music for this fantasy epic, the band took inspiration from the famous movie director Tim Burton ("Nightmare Before Christmas", "The Corpse Bride", "Edward Scissorhands" etc) in trying to re-create the typical atmospheres of his most famous movies in both the orchestral score (reminiscent of that of Danny Elfman, who did the music for the aforementioned Tim Burton movies) and for the artwork. The result is huge step forward for the band — the music is as aggressive as before yet keeping the typical SECRET SPHERE melodic touch.

TOM GABRIEL WARRIOR\'s TRIPTYKON To Enter Studio This Month
TRIPTYKON, the group formed by Tom Gabriel Warrior after his departure from CELTIC FROST in April of 2008, is scheduled to commence studio recording sessions for a first album in mid-August 2009. The album, tentatively titled "Eparistera Daimones", will mainly be recorded in southern Germany, with additional recording sessions to take place in Switzerland. Produced by Warrior and TRIPTYKON guitarist V. Santura, the recording and mixing sessions are expected to continue until November 2009. The album is currently scheduled for release in spring of 2010, through the group's own label, Prowling Death Records (home of HELLHAMMER and CELTIC FROST).
TRIPTYKON was created specifically to continue and further evolve the darkness invoked by its immediate precursors, seminal black/extreme metal pioneers HELLHAMMER and CELTIC FROST. Accordingly, TRIPTYKON's first album is a persistent development of the virulent and towering musical darkness perpetuated not only by Warrior's early work but also within his extensive contributions to CELTIC FROST's highly acclaimed "Monotheist" album. As expected, a significant part of the music on the album consists of material written by Warrior during the past few years and originally intended for "Monotheist"'s successor. This is balanced by new, original music written by Warrior and Santura since TRIPTYKON's inception.
Although the group has so far proceeded in virtual concealment, the music for "Eparistera Daimones" has been described as akin to a bleak, black ocean of heaviness, accentuated by moments of unexpected grace. Songs currently under consideration for inclusion on TRIPTYKON's debut album are, among others, "Myopic Empire", "Among Veiled Spirits", "Sepultus", "Abyss Within My Soul", "Goetia", "A Thousand Lies", and the 17-minute "The Prolonging".

SKINNY PUPPY announce new album and tour for 2009
According to a news posting on the official Skinny Puppy MySpace website, the band is planning a new studio album and tour for 2009. Rumour has it that the newest puppy would see the light of day somewhere in October. The current line-up of the band consists of Cevin Key, Ogre and Mark Walk with additional help from Otto von Schirach and Aaron from Venetian Snares.
Skinny Puppy is a Canadian band, formed in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1982. Initially envisioned as an experimental side project by cEvin Key (born Kevin Crompton) while he was in the new wave band Images In Vogue, Nivek Ogre (born Kevin Ogilvie) soon joined as vocalist and Skinny Puppy evolved into a full-time project. Over the course of a dozen studio albums and many live tours, Key and Ogre have been the only constant members. Other members have included the late Dwayne Goettel (1986–1995), Dave "Rave" Ogilvie, Mark Walk (2003–present), and a number of guests, including Bill Leeb (1985–1986, under the pseudonym Wilhelm Schroeder), Al Jourgensen (1989), and many others. The group is widely considered the founders of the electro-industrial sub genre.
It's pretty unsure if the band will continue to release albums under the SPV flag. More news as we get it.

FOREIGNER
Foreigner's latest will be available from Rhino Entertainment September 29, exclusively through Walmart, for $12.00.
Twelve tracks on the new album are produced by Mick Jones and Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith, Buckcherry), with celebrated Grammy-winning producer Mark Ronson contributing the Mick Jones-penned 'Fool For You Anyway'. The remixes bring a new energy and sound definition to these classic songs.
The DVD captures the band performing many of its hits live in 5.1 surround sound. The DVD also contains performances filmed during the band's recently completed European tour. Also featured is a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Can't Slow Down, from writing sessions in New York, Nashville, and Los Angeles to the Walmart shareholders meeting where the exclusive partnership behind this project was finalized.
Can't Slow Down tracklisting:
Disc 1 - New Album - 'Can't Slow Down', 'In Pieces', 'Lonely', 'Give Me A Sign', 'Living In A Dream', 'When It Comes To Love (Could Have Been You)' 'I Can't Give Up' 'As Long As I Live' 'I'll Be Home Tonight' 'When I'm Ready' 'Angel Tonight' 'Fool For You Anyway' 'Too Late'.

MANIAC, ANDREW LILES And CZRAL Team Up To Release Album
Former MAYHEM frontman Maniac (also of SKITLIV, SEHNUCHT, BOMBEROS) has teamed up with Andrew Liles (CURRENT 93, NURSE WITH WOUND, SEHNSUCHT) and Czral (VIRUS, VED BUENS ENDE, AURA NOIR, DØDHEIMSGARD) to release an album that he and Czral began working on in 1996. The 14-track LP will have the title "Det Skjedde Noe Når Du Var I Belgia" (English translation: Something Happened While You Were In Belgium) and will be made available on the U.K.'s Dirter label.
Commented Maniac: "It wasn't something we expected to do at all. Czral and I had recorded the original material all those years ago but other commitments had meant that we were never able to get round to finishing it off and releasing it, and I'd brought it with me to the U.K. for my manager to listen to just out of interest, but it was a DAT tape and she didn't have the right equipment for it. I was also visiting Andrew Liles who was mastering the new SKITLIV album, and preparing to master the new SEHNSUCHT album, so we converted the tape in his studio. Andrew's enthusiasm for what he heard got the better of him, and we started working on it straight away. By the end of the day we'd knocked it into shape, expanded it, and were ready to go with it, and Dirter immediately expressed an interest. It all happened very fast and the album was on the way to the printing plant within days, so we had to come up with a name for the band, and the only one we could think of was MANIAC/LILES/CZRAL. Perhaps not the most original name, but that's who we are after all. As to what kind of music it is, well, I think 'quirky' and 'eclectic' just about sums it up."
A track from the album can be heard on the band's MySpace page.
"Det Skjedde Noe Når Du Var I Belgia" will be one of four releases from Maniac during 2009. "Skandinavisk Misantropi", the first full-length album from his blackened/doom project SKITLIV, is due for release on Season Of Mist in October. Cold Spring Records is currently putting the finishing touches to a limited-edition SKITLIV picture disc that will feature a specially written track from CURRENT 93 as well as artwork by David Tibet, and will also release the first album from SEHNSUCHT, the noise/ambient project whose line up comprises Maniac, Andrew Liles, SKITLIV guitarist Ingvar and GALLHAMMER's Vivian Slaughter. Maniac is also planning to take SKITLIV on the road for a European tour in November with PANTHEON I and DEN SAAKALDTE, whose vocalist, SHINING's Niklas Kvarforth, is an integral part of SKITLIV.

NEVERMORE To Enter Studio This Week
NEVERMORE's Van Williams will record the drums for the band's new album, "The Obsidian Conspiracy", between August 7 and August 14 in the band's hometown of Seattle with producer (and SOILWORK guitarist) Peter Wichers (who previously worked with NEVERMORE vocalist Warrel Dane on Dane's solo debut, "Praises to the War Machine"). The rest of the instruments will be tracked at Wichers' studio in North Carolina. Longtime friend and collaborator Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ARCH ENEMY, EXODUS, MACHINE HEAD) will once again be handling mixing duties.
The follow-up to 2005's "This Godless Endeavor" is tentatively due in early 2010 via Century Media Records.
Commented Dane: "These songs are full of newfound rage, lyrically and musically. Jeff Loomis has come up with some amazing new riffs that will no doubt please old and new fans alike. Also, I think the combination of Peter and Andy will result in something very, very special."
Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Emptiness Unobstructed" and "Without Morals".
NEVERMORE's "The Year Of The Voyager" DVD last year entered the German DVD chart at position No. 82.

LINKIN PARK Vocalist Opening New Art Exhibit
The Pulse of Radio reports that LINKIN PARK vocalist Mike Shinoda will open a new solo art exhibition called "Glorious Excess (Dies)" at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles next month. The new 17-painting show will open on August 29 with a public reception at 8:00 p.m., with Shinoda in attendance, and will remain at the museum through October 4. The new show is a sequel of sorts to his 2008 exhibition, "Glorious Excess (Born)", and Shinoda told The Pulse of Radio how it's different. "It's gonna be a bigger show with twice as many pieces, and it's gonna be a lot of fun," he said. "We had an amazing reception on the first show and I can't wait for people to see the new one."
Both "Glorious Excess" shows offer up a mix of paintings and digital works that explore society's obsession with celebrity culture, consumer addiction, and fascination with excess.
A collectible, limited-edition book chronicling the "Glorious Excess" series will be launched on opening night, while a documentary short film will run during the course of the exhibition. Series-based merchandise, including skateboard decks, will be on sale at the museum as well. All proceeds from the sale of both artwork and merchandise will go toward the Michael K. Shinoda Endowed Scholarship at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
In other LINKIN PARK news, singer Chester Bennington's side band, DEAD BY SUNRISE, will perform a special three-song set as part of LINKIN PARK's show on four upcoming festival dates in the U.K., Germany and Japan, as well as the Epicenter festival in Pomona, California on August 22. The group's debut album, "Out Of Ashes", arrives on September 29.

IHSAHN: New Album Title Revealed
Former EMPEROR vocalist/guitarist Ihsahn has set "After" as the title of his third solo album, tentatively due in early 2010 via Mnemosyne Productions/Candlelight Records. More information about the CD will be made available during the coming months.
Ihsahn played his first-ever concert as a solo artist, supporting OPETH at Rockefeller in Oslo, Norway on March 10.
Video footage of the "Scarab" performance can be viewed below.
Ihsahn stated about the gig, "I felt well prepared for the show, and luckily all technical aspects worked out to our advantage, so that the overall experience for me and my band was extremely positive. The feedback from the audience was amazing, and many thought that the songs gained an extra dimension by being performed in a live setting."
Ihsahn's setlist was as follows:
01. Invocation
02. Called By The Fire
03. Scarab ( Live video)
04. Emancipation
05. Unhealer
06. Misanthrope
07. Thus Spake The Nightspirit
Ihsahn was supposed to support OPETH for the majority of shows on the Swedish band's Norwegian tour in March. However, more detailed production planning revealed technical and practical difficulties at many of the smaller venues, and it proved nearly impossible for Ihsahn to play any of the other dates on the trek.
Ihsahn's second solo album, "angL", was released in May 2008 via Mnemosyne Productions/Candlelight Records. The CD features a guest appearance by OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt on the track "Unhealer" while Asgeir Mickelson and Lars Norberg (both of SPIRAL ARCHITECT) were responsible for laying down the drum and bass tracks on the album, respectively.

SUICIDE COMMANDO Releases Die Motherfucker Die
Suicide Commando. A name that, like no other, is held synonymous with hard electronic dance music. The new single “Die Motherfucker Die” (whose provocative title will surely have no one expecting light Pop muzak) showcases the Belgian cult band from its most uncompromising side. Mastermind Johan van Roy stirs up a catchy, yet relentlessly aggressive cocktail of thudding beats, brutal shouts and melodic Trance- and Techno-licks to create an altogether unique Alternative-Dance-Floor-Sound. Gone are the days when electronic music was predominantly associated with love, peace and robots. With their pounding, electronic tracks, Suicide Commando sound more like the Jigsaw-killer on a joyride in a Techno-club than the post-Hippie-dreams of the Love Parade. Life’s hard and merciless and Suicide Commando provide the ideal club soundtrack for a messed-up world. This formidable appetizer for the soon-to-be-released new album is topped off with two dance-floor-optimized remixes from Noisuf-X and C-Lekktor plus one unreleased B-side and will be released as a limited first edition in a classy Digipak!
Out 18.09.2009 on Out of Line.

Former HELLOWEEN Singer Collaborating With AMANDA SOMERVILLE, PRIMAL FEAR Members
Former HELLOWEEN vocalist Michael Kiske is collaborating with American singer Amanda Somerville on a brand new melodic hard rock/metal project for Frontiers Records. Mat Sinner (PRIMAL FEAR, SINNER) and Magnus Karlsson (PLACE VENDOME, PRIMAL FEAR) are handling most of the songwriting for the CD, which is tentatively due in early 2010.
Commented Kiske: "This is another idea by Serafino (Frontiers owner). I did a duet with a female singer on 'Breathing Water' by INDIGO DYING. It was so nice that he offered me a chance to make an album of all duet songs with a famous female singer."
Sinner added: "We're working hard on the songwriting for the first [Kiske/Somerville] album. It's a pleasure to write and produce Michael's next album, and with Amanda as the co-singer, it's something very special. I wrote songs with Magnus and Jimmy Kresic for the album, and we're really excited about the songs. Eight tracks are pre-produced now and we need another two songs before we will start the real recordings. AFTER FOREVER mainman Sander Gommans plans to join us and he's working on new songs with Amanda at the moment! Look out for a melodic metal masterpiece in early 2010!"

05. Against The Stream (06:11)
06. Lay Of The Autumn (09:08)
07. Into The Woods (05:08)

Guitarist Ville Friman previously described the new songs as follows: "One is really epic one with clock ticking almost over 10 minutes. Great song with vibe of last two AMORPHIS albums with more heavier edge and INSOMNIUM style of lead work. The second new song turned out to be quite long one as well but in my opinion this one holds more 'hit' potential in it, mainly because of simple arrangement and catchy melodies. Could be maybe described as being somewhere between 'Bereavement' and 'Last Statement'?!? Or what the hell I know; sounds good though. Third song sounds bit like a tribute to SENTENCED because the melodies bear similarity to the melancholy heard in 'Amok' or 'Down' albums. Otherwise the song is pretty slow, depressing and quite doomy. Just the way we like it. Fourth song ready is bit faster and riff-orientated. Composed partly in the last North American tour. Potentially a good live song. We'll see."

HIGH ON FIRE Taps METALLICA/SLAYER Producer For New Album
Oakland, California's HIGH ON FIRE will begin work on its long-awaited fifth studio album this August. The band will commence pre-production in Los Angeles with producer Greg Fidelman (METALLICA, SLAYER, JOHNNY CASH), with the goal of capturing "the ultimate HIGH ON FIRE experience." An early 2010 release via E1 Music (formerly KOCH Records) is expected.
In a February 2009 interview with Swigged!, HIGH ON FIRE vocalist/guitarist Matt Pike stated about the song writing process for the band's new album, "We're getting more intricate in our songwriting and actual playing. Some of it is rudimentary — not as difficult as it seems — but at the same time there is complicated chord work, key changes, and other really cool things. It's been going good — we're leaning on the whole BLACK SABBATH kind of thing."
Regarding how the group has been able to draw from its experiences working with such producers as Steve Albini and jack Endino, Pike said, "It's going to definitely help us more when we're actually recording than anywhere else. There are different sounds you can get — clean, dirty, close-up sounds. You can get cave-like sounds, like you're on the side of a mountain. There are just so many things you can do, and all the producers we've worked with just have a different style and a different way of showing it. It's taught us how to mic things a certain way to get what we want to hear. It's all still an experiment; you never know what you're going to come up with when you have that much experience behind you."
Prior to entering the studio, HIGH ON FIRE will embark on a string of California live dates beginning on August 7 in Eureka. The group is expected to preview some of its new material live for the very first time at these shows.

MNEMIC Announces Producer For New Album
Mircea Gabriel Eftemie, guitarist and songwriter of Danish modern metallers MNEMIC, has issued the following update:
"We have chosen our long time friend and producer Tue Madsen (HALFORD, BEHEMOTH, KATAKLYSM, THE HAUNTED), who worked with us on 'Mechanical Spin Phenomena' and 'The Audio Injected Soul', as the producer for the new album, 'Sons Of The System'. He has been to our rehearsal space and we started talking about the direction and sound for the new music. We gave him half of the demo songs so far and now he is doing his evaluation of the 14 songs we have given him. There are 12 more. So far, the demos are ONLY working titles. The first song that is more or less finished title-wise is 'March Of The Tripods'. We are entering the studio in September, and the album will be released in January 2010."
MNEMIC recently performed at the Heavy Sands festival in Sardinia with a stand-in guitarist after Rune Stigart had to undergo surgery for an old wrist injury. | 0 | |
