QUEEN Fan Pays $11,000 For Lesson From BRIAN MAY
 AFP reports that QUEEN guitarist Brian May will give his first-ever private lesson after a fan bid over 7,500 pounds (approximately $11,000) to jam with the star in an auction to raise money for Brazilian street children.
The rock legend, best known for creating the riffs on "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Will Rock You", will deliver a two-hour tutorial at his home following the auction in London late Wednesday, which raised over 30,000 pounds.

 Germany's death metal and hardcore fusionists HEAVEN SHALL BURN will release their first DVD, "Bildersturm – Iconoclast II (The Visual Resistance)", on May 25 in Europe via Century Media Records. In addition to "incredible" live material, the DVD includes a comprehensive documentary and loads of other content.
"Bildersturm – Iconoclast II (The Visual Resistance)" will be available in three different formats: a limited-edition three-disc box set including two DVDs as well as a live CD; 2DVD and CD.
The stunning artwork was once created by Bastian Sobtzick (CALLEJON, WAR FROM A HARLOTS MOUTH) and continues the visual tradition of the band's latest studio album, "Iconoclast (Part One: The Final Resistance)".

OLD MAN\'S CHILD: \'Slaves Of The World\' Limited-Edition Digipack Detailed
 Norwegian melodic black metal band OLD MAN'S CHILD, which is led by guitarist/vocalist Galder (also in DIMMU BORGIR), will release its new album, "Slaves Of The World", on May 19 via Century Media Records (one day earlier internationally). The CD was recorded last fall at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden with producer Fredrik Nordström (DIMMU BORGIR, ARCH ENEMY, IN FLAMES, etc.), who had previously worked with the band on the "In Defiance Of Existence" (2003) and "Vermin" (2005) albums. The nine-song effort features Peter Wildoer (DARKANE, PESTILENCE) on drums.
Commented Galder: "So finally the new album, 'Slaves Of The World', is about to be released! It has been a long ride in preparing this but I am really proud of the results! It marks to be one of the OMC albums I put the most advance planning and dedication into! I can't wait for you all to hear the record!!!"
"Slaves Of The World" will also be available as luxurious cross-shaped five-panel CD digipack including a re-recorded version of the classic song "Born Of The Flickering" from the "Vermin" album sessions (previously only released in Japan) as an exclusive bonus track. The digipack version also features different artwork to the standard jewel case CD, also created by Gustavo Sazes (FIREWIND, GOD FORBID, KRISIUN).

U.D.O.: \'Infected\' Single Track Listing, Artwork Unveiled
 U.D.O., the German metal band fronted by former ACCEPT frontman Udo Dirkschneider, is currently in the studio recording the follow-up to 2007's "Mastercutor", tentatively titled "Dominator". An August 21 release via AFM Records is expected. A limited-edition single, "Infected", will precede the full-length CD on June 26. The single will be released as a limited edition of 2,222 pieces worldwide and will include the title track, two non-album cuts, a remix and a live song. On the same day U.D.O. will play at the Bang Your Head!!! festival in Balingen, Germany as a co-headliner. A listening/signing session will also take place at the festival.

WARMEN: Japanese Edition Of New Album To Include ROXETTE Cover
 CHILDREN OF BODOM keyboardist Janne Wirman will release the fourth album from his WARMEN project, "Japanese Hospitality", on August 24 via Spinefarm Records. The 10-song effort includes two cover versions — "Separate Ways", originally recorded by JOURNEY, and "Black Cat" by JANET JACKSON, featuring a guest appearance by the Finnish pop/rock queen Jonna Kosonen. In addition, Japanese fans will get WARMEN's rendition of ROXETTE's "Fading Like A Flower" as a bonus track. Other guest musicians that appear on the CD include Alexi Laiho (CHILDREN OF BODOM), Pasi Rantanen (ex-THUNDERSTONE), Timo Kotipelto (STRATOVARIUS) and Marko Vaara.

Interviewed in January, WARMEN guitarist and Janne's brother Antti Wirman revealed that the album would be heavier than the band's previous output, with more aggressive guitar riffs. There will be just two instrumental tracks, and every song has a different singer. According to Antti, the next WARMEN album will be the group's strongest effort to date because it has "the best songs, best vocalists and the best sounds."
WARMEN's third full-length album, "Accept the Fact", was released in July 2005 via Spinefarm Records. The follow-up to 2002's "Beyond Abilities" included guest appearances by CHILDREN OF BODOM frontman Alexi Laiho and STRATOVARIUS singer Timo Kotipelto.
Kosonen, who was previously a member of the multiplatinum-selling Finnish female pop duo NYLON BEAT, had contributed her vocals to CHILDREN OF BODOM's cover version of the BRITNEY SPEARS smash "Oops, I Did It Again" (which appeared on the "In Your Face" single), and was also one of the guest musicians on "Accept the Fact".

SHINING: Two New Songs Available For Streaming
 Swedish black metallers SHINING are streaming two new songs — "Vilseledda Barnasjälars Hemvist" and "Plågoande O'Helga Plågoande" — on their MySpace page. The tracks are taken from the band's sixth studio album, "VI / Klagopsalmer", tentatively due before the end of the year via Indie Recordings. The CD was recorded at The Slaughterhouse studios with producer Rickard Bengtsson.

Former TO/DIE/FOR Singer\'s SUNDOWN SINDROME: Another Song Posted Online
 SUNDOWN SINDROME, the new project featuring former TO/DIE/FOR frontman Jape Perätalo and members of the German band DAS SCHEIT, has posted a second song, "One Of Them", on the group's official MySpace page.
Jape recently said, "[SUNDOWN SINDROME] just recorded our first promo CD in Germany, and we are trying to find a great label for us soon as possible. One thing is sure... I am gonna hit the road very soon with new plans and with my new band.

MANOWAR\'s \'The Asgard Saga\' To Premiere At MAGIC CIRCLE FESTIVAL
 The world premiere of the fantasy collaboration between MANOWAR and Wolfgang Hohlbein has been announced. "The Asgard Saga" will begin at Magic Circle Festival III, scheduled to take place at the Loreley on the Rhine River in Germany on July 18, 2009. GOROD Signs With LISTENABLE RECORDS
 French technical death metallers GOROD have inked a deal with Listenable Records. The band's new album, "Process Of A New Decline", will be released later this year. The follow-up to 2006's "Leading Vision" will mark the recording debut of GOROD's new drummer, Sam Santiago.
Commented the label in a press release: "With this new record, GOROD have cleverly spiced their diamond-cutting technicality with supercharged pinball machine melodies and fluttering sting ray guitar solos against a backdrop of grooves and bonkers bass playing, not to mention tighter, radioactive songwriting sure to burrow its way into permanent memory. RAUNCHY: \'Warriors\' Video Released
 "Warriors", the new video from Danish modern metallers RAUNCHY, can be viewed here. The clip was shot in February with award-winning director Andreas Krohn and his crew. The band says, "Since we hadn't done any official music video since the 'Watch Out' video years ago [from 2004's 'Confusion Bay' album], we wanted to make something really cool with the band playing but with a storyline attached to it."

"Warriors" comes off RAUNCHY's latest masterpiece, "Wasteland Discotheque", was released on June 30, 2008 in Europe and July 7, 2008 in the U.S. via Lifeforce Records.
The Danish band split with Nuclear Blast Records in January 2005 after releasing two albums through the label (2002's "Velvet Noise" and 2004's "Confusion Bay").

This bill is going to just peel your face off. Not only are all the bands insanely technical and heavy, but the lineup also covers a broad spectrum of style - from the almost avant-garde sound of PSYOPUS to the straight up technical death metal sounds of GNOSTIC and ATHEIST. Then you throw in the more modern break-neck technicality, unrivaled musicianship and speed of THE FACELESS, and the brutality of THE AGONIST, and you've got yourself one hell of a night. This will also be somewhat experimental in the world of technical death metal, as three of us (me on drums, Chris Baker on guitars, and Jonathan Thompson on bass [in GNOSTIC] and guitars [in ATHEIST]) are in two bands and playing TWO shows per night. HEAVEN & HELL\'s IOMMI: We\'ve Got Enough Ideas To Make Another Album If We Wanted
 Gary Graff of Billboard.com reports: "The Devil You Know" is either the first album by HEAVEN & HELL or the third studio set from the third lineup of BLACK SABBATH. Either way, guitarist Tony Iommi says there's much more where that came from.
"There were loads of ideas," Iommi tells Billboard.com. "We've got enough to make another album if we wanted. We probably wouldn't use that stuff again, but we had more than enough" for "The Devil You Know". Iommi says the remaining material are "ideas — a verse or a riff, lots of bits, really." But he adds that with "The Devil You Know" just coming out Tuesday, HEAVEN & HELL isn't close to thinking about a next album.
"We're gonna be pretty tied up in touring for a bit," Iommi says, "and then when it comes to what we're gonna do afterwards, I don't know — but I'm sure we'll sort that out."

 Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen has uploaded photos from the rehearsal sessions for her North American tour, which is scheduled to kick of tonight (Wednesday, April 29) in New York City.

"As many of you might know already, there is a health issue problems at the moment especially in Mexico, USA and Canada. Still, Mexico is the worst affected area and is very sad that people are dying because of this flu. Our condolences to all families of the flu victims. We all hope this will end up very soon. You might also know that I am supposed to have a concert pretty soon in Mexico City. I want to let all my fans know that as long as the government of Mexico does not cancel the public events, I am heading to Mexico and I’m going to have my show there. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the disease gets under control and people can return to their normal life."
Spinefarm Records recently released a new digital single from Tarja Turunen entitled "Enough". The single features the title track plus the bonus song "Wisdom Of Wind"; both cuts are brand new recordings, although it's yet to be determined if they will feature on the singer's second full studio album under the Tarja banner.
Tarja Turunen has set "What Lies Beneath" as the working title of her new solo CD, tentatively due before the end of the year. She says, "With [2007's] 'My Winter Storm', I chose the name of the album in the early stages and that helped me to create the concept for the album. With the new album, I decided to do it the same way, so I searched for an inspiring title and all the songs are one way or another related to it."
Regarding the songwriting process for the new CD, Turunen says, "In the last months I've been writing a lot of music for my new album. Songwriting is always an amazing learning experience, and it has been a pleasure to discuss music with different people.
"The album process is still going on and I have more songs that are in the working. It is sounding very promising. The songs are absolutely more mature, wild, and emotional and they sound more me, if I can say so.
"The biggest difference in preparing this new album is that I will be taking the time that I need until the songs are in a shape that I am happy with. No matter how long it takes. I want it to be perfect for me. No hurry; no pressure."
Tarja's album "My Winter Storm" was re-released on January 2. This double CD "extended special edition" is packed with 32 tracks, including the CD "My Winter Storm" with the addition of the song "The Seer" in its original version. The bonus disc presents several new tracks, remixes and live recordings. Among them, the brand new song "Enough" and "The Seer", this time featuring a duet with German rock star Doro Pesch. Both tracks were mixed at Resonate Recording Studios by Toby Wright (SLAYER, KORN, KISS, ALICE IN CHAINS). Also included is the previously unreleased track "Wisdom Of Wind", composed by Jeff Rona and Lisa Gerrard and featuring the Beijing Philharmonic with Qingdao Symphony Orchestra recorded in China. The two-CD set is available as a digipack deluxe edition including an exclusive poster, new album cover and enhanced booklet containing new photos.
As an appetizer of "My Winter Storm Special Extended Edition", a limited-edition collector's item 11-track EP "The Seer" was released on December 1 in the U.K. only.

ONHEIL: New Album Details Revealed
 "Razor", the long-awaited new album from Dutch blackened thrash/death metal band ONHEIL, will be released on May 15 via German metal label Cyclone Empire. The group's first studio effort in six years was recorded at the Final Focus Studios and was produced by Bart Hennephof (TEXTURES, BRUTUS) and Yuma van Eekelen (THE NEW DOMINION, BRUTUS). It marks the recording debut of ONHEIL's new lineup, featuring two lead vocalists and three guitarists.
ONHEIL's new album and song material will be officially presented to the world on June 7 at the "Razor" CD-release party at Baroeg in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Also appearing on the bill are Greek extreme metallers ROTTING CHRIST.

 New Jersey's thrashing pirates SWASHBUCKLE have revealed the cover artwork for their Nuclear Blast debut, "Back To The Noose", due on July 31.
Commented the band: "Aye, we pirates three commissioned the likes of the finest artisan we could scour amoungst the blackhearts of digital designers for the artwork for 'Back To The Noose'. Adam Vehige is his name, and kicking conceptual ass is his game. We brought this legend of graphical creation our 'Back To The Noose' concept of Captain Crotchrot (our recurring decaying mascot miscreant) breaking free of the gallows to join an intense cannon warfare battle upon the ocean's blue. Adam accepted our payment of stolen gold shillings and doubloons (aye, blood money, and cursed it be) and rendered us some brutal cover art. If ye be seekin' nautical nonsense and high-seas hijinx, vicious splash-n-thrash attack and malicious moshing madness, ye will certainly be needin' no more persuasion than gazin' yar weary eyes upon our album art!"
SWASHBUCKLE was one of three winners of last year's Nuclear Blast MySpace Bands Contest.
The trio will hit Europe hard at Legacy Fest, Metal Dayz Festival and Summer Nights Festival this May in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, respectively. The band will also embark on Paganfest USA Part II tour on April 28 along with labelmates KORPIKLAANI and BLACKGUARD, among others.

HATE: \'The Litanies Of Satan\' Live Album Due In June
 Metal Mind Productions has set a June 8 European release date (July 14 in the USA via MVD) for "The Litanies of Satan", a live album from Polish death metallers HATE. Recorded in February 2004, the CD features mainly songs from the band's "Awakening of the Liar" LP plus some older, classic compositions. The digipack edition is limited to 1,000 copies and features the following track listing:

SYRACH: \'A Dark Burial\' Release Dates Announced
 Norwegian doom metallers SYRACH will release their sophomore album, "A Dark Burial", via Napalm Records on the following dates:
July 22 – Finland, Spain
July 24 - Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, France, Italy, Sweden
July 27 - Rest of Europe
July 28 - USA, Canada
The CD was produced by Bjørnar Nilsen and features artwork (see here) by Martin Kvamme, who has previously worked with FANTOMAS, Mike Patton, DARKTHRONE and lots of other artists. "We really think [the cover art] fits the music and album title," the band says in a statement.

SYRACH recently announced the addition of session guitarist Gjeddo (a.k.a. Gjermund; ENCHANTING DARKNESS) to the group's ranks.
Guitarist Reichborn (a.k.a. Noralf Venås) left SYRACH in February "due to lack of motivation."
SYRACH's debut album, "Days of Wrath", was produced by Herbrand Larsen from ENSLAVED and was released on November 2, 2007 in Europe and November 6, 2007 in North America via Napalm Records. The CD cover artwork is the painting "Christs" from MY DYING BRIDE vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe.

SYRACH was formed in 1993 in Kalandseidet, near Bergen, Norway — a region known to have spawned bands like IMMORTAL and BURZUM, to name a few.

NAHEMAH: \'The Perfect Depth Of The Mermaids\' Video Released
 "The Perfect Depth Of The Mermaids", the new video from Spanish prog-rock/art-metal band NAHEMAH, can be viewed here. The clip was directed by Manuel Garcia De Otazo.
"The Perfect Depth Of The Mermaids" comes off NAHEMAH's new album, "A New Constellation", which is scheduled for release on May 25 in Europe and June 23 in the U.S. via Lifeforce Records.
Commented the band: "The new album is a step ahead in our music and lives. We have grown up as musicians and as persons, we have elevated our personalities, spirits and minds to places beyond our body and planet, they have been elevated to different atmospheres, to a new constellation."
Regarding the "The Perfect Depth Of The Mermaids" video, the group said, "The perfect depth of the mermaids is an allegorical and metaphoric chant to the perfect happiness. This perfect happiness is deeply inside of us, which is represented by the sea, and the mermaids are metaphores of the instruments that lead you to that perfect depth or happiness."

EUROPE: Performance Footage Of New Song Available
 Fan-filmed video footage of Swedish hard rockers EUROPE performing a brand new song, "Mojito Girl", on April 25, 2009 at Caupolican Theatre in Santiago, Chile can be viewed below. Also available is a radio-broadcast-quality audio stream of the track, which will appear on the band's new album, "Last Look At Eden", tentatively due in September. A new single will precede the full-length CD in May/June. More details, including the track listing will be made available soon.

HELLWITCH: New Album Track Listing Revealed
 Long-standing Floridian deathrashers HELLWITCH will release their new album, "Omnipotent Convocation", in August on CD and limited-edition 12" vinyl via Xtreem Music. The band says, " The production/mixing/mastering with veteran producer Jeremy Staska (MALEVOLENT CREATION, DIVINE EMPIRE, DEAD STAR ASSEMBLY, POISON THE WELL, etc.) went incredibly well."
According to a press release, the album contains "10 songs of sheer insanity in the classic HELLWITCH tradition!" The effort also features a guest vocal performance from Antti Boman of classic Finnish death metallers DEMILICH.

EVEMASTER Putting Finishing Touches On New Album Recordings
 Finnish "dark metal" band EVEMASTER, which features in its ranks BATTLELORE's Tomi Mykkänen, is continuing work on its long-awaited new CD. According to Tomi, "Everything except synths is recorded for the album. I will transfer the material to Dan Swanö for mixing and mastering (and for adding some clean vocal lines by The Master himself!) in mid-May."
The working title of the new EVEMASTER album is "III: Newtopia". According to Mykkänen, "It is a concept album revolving around a dystopian dream or a fall of this one pitiful man... Musically this album is the third part of the trilogy. Next album will be musically different going deeper in the emotions and darker side of human mind."

AHAB: New Album Release Dates Confirmed
 AHAB, the German funeral doom metal band featuring MIDNATTSOL guitarist Daniel Droste on guitar/vocals and ex-MIDNATTSOL guitarist Christian Hector, will release its sophomore album, "The Divinity Of Oceans", via Napalm Records on the following dates:

July 24 - Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Sweden
July 27 - Rest of Europe
July 28 - Canada, U.S.
The follow-up to 2006's "The Call of the Wretched Sea" contains seven songs and is based on the wreckage of the Essex.

According to the band, the guitar parts for AHAB's new album, which were mostly written by Daniel Droste this time, are "a bit more complex, yet in a funeral doom and death doom style." Hector says, "It sounds a bit like a mixture of the 'good ole' AHAB style mixed with very atmospheric tunes. So the description of AHAB as it's posted on Doom-Metal.com as a 'riffing funeral doom band' still is valid. You may say there are riffs, that sound a bit like Devin Townsend going funeral doom, CARCASS in slomo or MORBID ANGEL going beyond the slowness of 'Blessed Are The Sick'. Still to some extent the influence of our colleague of Tyranny can still be heard in some few riffs. So most of the music stays the same as you know it, although there are some hints to postcore and classical doom as well. It also maybe said, the songs are much more epic and vast. I think the new riffs fit perfectly to tell the story of the wreckage of the Essex! So Daniel made it quite easy for me to fit the lyrics to the music!"
AHAB is named after Captain Ahab, a character in the novel "Moby Dick" by Herman Melville. Along with its name, the band also draws thematic and lyrical inspiration from "Moby Dick" — some songs even feature direct quotations from the book.
