IRON MAIDEN Vs. \'Iron And The Maiden\'
 According to TMZ.com, British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN have filed a lawsuit against a company which named its comic book "Iron and the Maiden".
MAIDEN is suing Iron and the Maiden, LLC — because, according to the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, the "confusingly similar" name was a ploy used to profit off the band's heavily trademarked name.
MAIDEN wants the company to stop using the Iron and the Maiden name to sell its comic books, video games and other merchandise — and also wants some money for the trouble.

TRENT REZNOR Is Engaged
 NINE INCH NAILS mainman Trent Reznor is engaged to fellow musician Mariqueen Maandig, of the band WEST INDIAN GIRL. The news was announced via a posting on Maandig's band's web site, which stated, "In case you haven't heard the news, Mariqueen got engaged. Everyone in the WEST INDIAN GIRL camp is super excited and happy for her. Q's an awesome person, friend and bandmate and she couldnt be marrying a cooler guy."
WEST INDIAN GIRL released its self-titled debut album in August 2004 on Astralwerks. The "Remix EP", featuring remixes of songs from the self-titled CD, followed in 2006. The band's second full-length album, "4th & Wall", came out on October 23, 2007 on Milan Records. In August 2007, the band signed a pioneering recording and wireless distribution deal with digital media and entertainment company Flycell.

METALLICA Gives Away Thousands Of Free T-Shirts At Stockholm Concert
 METALLICA resumed their European tour earlier tonight (Monday, May 4) when they returned to Stockholm, Sweden to make up for the concert on March 8 which was cancelled after guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield was hospitalized with a stomach bug and dehydration (reportedly caused by eating "a bad oyster").
The Swedish fans were given a unique gift by METALLICA. Thousands of attendees (before supplies ran out) received a free, speciallly designed METALLICA t-shirt (see image here) where the band made fun of Hetfield's food poisoning. The title of the song "Seek And Destroy" was changed to "Sick And Destroy" on the t-shirt, which also featured some new lyrics: "Stockholm on our way, oysters he will pay. Dying, one thousand deaths. Stockholm, spoilt your day. Puking, he did pay! Dying, one thousand deaths. Wretching, sick and destroy." Every attendee also got a special code enabling him/her to download the gig for free from METALLICA's official download site, LiveMetallica.com.

Speaking to MTV News this past March, Hetfield stated about the cancellation of the band's Stockholm concert, "It was at the very last show of the very last leg [of METALLICA's European tour], and there's a few places where we're able to do doubles [two shows in the same city], which is awesome, and this last one was in Sweden, in Stockholm," he said.
"We had done the first show, and there's not many times where all the support acts — we've got MACHINE HEAD, we've got THE SWORD out with us — there's not many places where we're all in the same town, at the same day off, together," he continued. "So there was a night where we went out and had a celebration between shows, and there was a bunch of food that was laid out that was maybe laid out a bit too long, I don't know."
According to Hetfield, he felt fine all night, but when he woke up the next morning, something was different.
"I just started to feel really bad," he said. "And man, I tried so hard to not cancel the show. It's so lame. It's tough to call in sick to our gig, and I don't want to disappoint people, and we're already there, the gear's there, but I was so sick I swear I could not stand without falling over. I was so dehydrated. The doctor came in, took my blood pressure — which was, like, 80 over 60 — and he had an IV of saline in his car, and he brought it in, he taped it up to the lamp next to the bed and plugged me in. But of course, the stuff's supposed to be at room temperature. It was freezing, and I went into this — my teeth were chattering. It was an event."

Y&T: First Two Albums Reissued On One CD
 The first two albums California rockers Y&T recorded back in the 1970s under the YESTERDAY AND TODAY moniker are available on one CD titled "OneTwo". Both albums have been digitally remastered and put on a single CD. It contains seventeen tracks in total taken from the "Yesterday and Today" LP, originally released in 1976, and the "Struck Down" record, originally released in 1978.
In a year that the California rockers celebrate 35 years of rocking the world, this presents an interesting collection of songs that gives a peek into the beginnings of the band's versatile songwriting style, and serves as a bookmark of where it all started for Y&T.

THE AUTUMN OFFERING: New Song Posted Online
 Daytona Beach, Florida's THE AUTUMN OFFERING has posted a new track, "The Curtain Hits The Cast", on the band's MySpace page. The track comes off the group's new album, "Requiem", which is scheduled for release on June 9 via Victory Records. The CD was recorded at AudioHammer Studios in Sanford, Florida. Other songtitles set to appear on the album include "Narcosis", "Worn Out Wings" and "Obsidian Halo". According to the group, the follow-up to 2007's "Fear Will Cast No Shadow" contains "by far the band's most ambitious and dense material yet. HATEBREED: Entire \'For The Lions\' Covers Album Available For Streaming
 The much-anticipated covers album by Connecticut hardcore/metal masters HATEBREED, entitled "For The Lions", is available for streaming in its entirety on the band's MySpace page.
Century Media Records has announced that the European release of the limited-edition CD digipack and LP of "For The Lions" has been postponed due to "manufacturing issues."
The limited-edition CD digipack and LP versions of "For The Lions" will now be released on May 25 in Europe. The standard jewel case CD will be made available on May 11.

ONSLAUGHT: Live Album Ready To Go To Press
 British thrashers ONSLAUGHT recorded their performance at the Damnation Festival on November 22, 2008 in Leeds, U.K. for a live CD, to be released later in 2009 through Candlelight Records. Drummer Steve Grice states, "The live album has been mixed and approved and is now heading its way to record company [headquarters] to go to press. DEF LEPPARD Rocking With Reissues
 David J. Prince of Billboard.com reports: DEF LEPPARD is set to release deluxe editions of two of its classic records — 1983's "Pyromania" and 1992's "Adrenalize" — on June 23. Both double-disc sets will come on Bludgeon Riffola/Island/UMe and feature previously unreleased material including b-sides, demo versions and live recordings.
"'Adrenalize' was Number One the week of the L.A. riots," LEPPARD guitarist Phil Collen remembers in an exclusive interview with Billboard.com. "I know it was the Nineties, but it really was the end of the Eighties. You had this whole new genre — NIRVANA and the grunge thing — which I loved when it really shook everything up. But we got lumped into the Eighties hair metal bands."

Both deluxe editions will feature deluxe digipack gatefold packaging with expanded booklets containing rare and previously unseen photographs, comprehensive sleeve notes telling the story behind each album and include images of rare single covers and memorabilia from the period. Liner notes come from Rolling Stone's David Fricke.
"Pyromania", DEF LEPPARD's third album originally released in 1983, was the album that took the band to the global stage. Produced by Robert "Mutt" Lange, the album sold over 10 million copies in the USA alone and spawned the huge singles "Photograph", "Rock Of Ages" and "Foolin'". The deluxe edition features a remastered version of the original album and a bonus disc of a previously unreleased 15-track show from The Forum in Los Angeles in 1983.

"No, the reason why I'm sitting in my living room accompanied with my PC this Sunday morning is because of Guillaume's (Season Of Mist propagandist and friend) idea of writing a statement on the topic of 'why we chose to change the sound from the promo CD to the final product!' Oh well, it is not as mysterious as it looks on paper. Actually, it is quite simple...
"Here's the deal: The album is done, the sound is perfectly organic, just the way we wanted it, and it has shitloads of personality and depth. Very AVA-ish. So what now then? Something lacking? 'Well I wouldn't say that there's something lacking... But maybe it could use a bit of that extra push? Why not try to sharpen and tighten up the sound a bit, get it more modern but still perfectly in tune with our musical convictions?' Well, at first I must admit that I was convinced this was the voice of the wine speaking, but no, the following day the same thought came through.
"So, while giving this new idea some heavy thought and consideration, I accidentally came across a new song from our semi related doomsters NOVEMBERS DOOM. The song I heard had been mastered by a certain Swede and it caught my attention immediately. Yeah, that's right! Mr. Dan Swanö was responsible. This guy has an incomparable list of merits and obviously has a damn good clue what the fuck he is doing, so no more questions asked. I sent him a file asking him to 'do what he does' and he sent it back to me the following day. Bang! There it was. I was completely stunned by the result. This is what I wanted the album to sound like! So, after a quick brainstorming with Season Of Mist, we all decided to go for it. The album was transferred to Dan and his Unisound Studio, and two days later the album was back to Season Of Mist, remastered and ready to be shipped to print.
"So, to straighten things up: those of you who actually have the promo CD, hold on to it, as it now can be considered a collector's item bearing the old or 'first' sound of 'Bacchus'. In other words, don't put it up on eBay quite yet... :)) To the rest of you, I bet you all are thinking 'so, how does this shit sound then' right? Fair enough... SKYCLAD \'Awakening From Hibernation\'
 SKYCLAD, the seminal British band which is often referred to as "the originator of folk metal," has issued the following update:
"Just a note to say that we are awakening from our hibernation to start doing some gigs in support of the new album, 'In The... All Together'. First up, we have a 'warm-up' gig at Langley Park, Durham on Sunday, May 2. This is a charity gig, and for those who are making the trip I said I would post the post code for the old Sat Nav (it is Front Street, Langley Park, Durham, DH7 9SG as far as I can guess). I've posted this info on the events page and hopefully we'll meet up there and share a jar and a chat for the forthcoming year."
SKYCLAD's twelfth album, "In The… All Together" was released via Scarlet Records. The CD, which was recorded and mixed by Dario Mollo (THE CAGE, VOODOO HILL) at Damage Inc Studio, in Ventimiglia, Italy during August 2008, "mixes the usual thrash/speed metal influences with the extraordinary folk melodies that made the band famous all around the world, maintaining a fresh and dynamic approach which gives a strong live dimension to the new songs," according to a press release.
Formed in 1990 by Martin Walkyer (SABBAT) and Steve Ramsey (SATAN, PARIAH), SKYCLAD gained extraordinary attention from both the press and the public with the now-legendary debut album "The Wayward Sons Of Mother Earth" (1991) and, since then, has built up a solid reputation which led them to take part in some of the most important international metal events (such as the renowned Dynamo, Wacken, Gods of Metal and Tuska festivals) and share the stage with some of the most respected artists of their time.

AS I LAY DYING: \'I Never Wanted\' Video Released
 "I Never Wanted", the new video from the Grammy-nominated San Diego metal act AS I LAY DYING, can be viewed below. (Note: Video stream may not be available to some non-U.S. residents.)
Commented guitarist Phil Sgrosso: "We've talked about doing a video for 'I Never Wanted' for quite some time now. Most videos that we've done have been for more fast and aggressive songs that have the usual AILD sound to it but we wanted to mix things up and do a video for a slower (but still heavy!) song that would be made up of footage from our new DVD, 'This Is Who We Are'."
He added, "Denise Korycki filmed and directed our DVD so we thought it would be perfect for her to make a video that incorporated mostly footage from the DVD, plus some bonus stuff as well! The live footage is made up of several shows that we played in the past few years while the 'hanging out' footage was shot mostly while we were...well...hanging out. Not much more to it, I guess! Generally it takes us a day or two to film one of our videos but in a way, it took several years to make 'I Never Wanted' what it is. I hope you enjoy it."
AS I LAY DYING's first-ever DVD, "This Is Who We Are", sold 4,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 2 on the Top Music Videos chart. It also debuted at No. 3 in Canada, where the DVD has already shipped platinum.

AUGURY: New Album Details Revealed
 Newly signed to Nuclear Blast Records, Montreal juggernauts AUGURY will release their long-awaited new album, "Fragmentary Evidence", on July 17 in Europe and August 11 in North America. The CD was produced by Hugues Deslauriers (CLEARWATER DEATHBLOW), Yannick St-Amand (DESPISED ICON) and AUGURY, and was mixed by KATAKLYSM guitarist Jean-Francois Dagenais (MISERY INDEX, DESPISED ICON, MALEVOLENT CREATION). It was mastered by James Murphy (DEATH, OBITUARY, DISINCARNATE). The artwork and layout was handled by Sven de Caluwé (ABORTED).

ZAO: Entire New Album Available For Streaming
 "Awake?", the new album from the influential heavy music act ZAO, is available for streaming in its entirety on the band's MySpace page. Due on May 5 via Ferret Music, the follow-up to 2006's "The Fear Is What Keeps Us Here" was recorded in Latrobe, Pennsylvania (near Greensburg); Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Encinitas, California; and San Marcos, California. AS I LAY DYING frontman Tim Lambesis and Daniel Castleman headed up the proceedings, along with ZAO's Scott Mellinger, for what is shaping up to be another monumental ZAO album.
According to a posting on ZAO's MySpace page, "Awake?" features a brand new version of "Romance of the Southern Spirit", which "has finally been given the sonic quality it deserves with a brand new recording that smashes the basement b-side version you've heard."

CHILDREN OF BODOM Frontman Breaks F**king Shoulder, Vows To Continue F**king Touring
 CHILDREN OF BODOM guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho broke his shoulder earlier this week after falling from his tour bus bunk while travelling with the rest of the band during the No Fear Energy Tour with LAMB OF GOD, AS I LAY DYING, GOD FORBID and MUNICIPAL WASTE.
Addressing the audience prior to launching into the song "Hellhounds On My Trail" during CHILDREN OF BODOM's April 29 set at The Uptown Theater in Kansas City, Missouri, Laiho stated (see video below), "I've gotta tell you something. Three nights ago, I fucking fell down from my bunk on the fucking tour bus, and I broke my fucking shoulder, so I've got a fucking broken bone right now. I fucking apologize — I can't fucking move, I can't fucking sing; I'm fucking just standing here like a fucking idiot, so fucking try to bear with me, alright?!"

MOONSORROW Guitar Stolen In Montreal
 Finnish folk/pagan metal band MOONSORROW has issued the following statement:
"MOONSORROW played in Montreal [Quebec, Canada] at the Medley club on April 29. Sometime during the day/night, someone broke in the tour bus and stole our very special ESP custom shop Star guitar [pictured below]. The guitar is cream white with abalone star shaped inlays and gold hardware. The guitar can be easily recognized by the star inlays on frets 3, 5, 7, 12, 15 and 17 and creamy 'vintage white' color. The back of the neck is not painted. It was in a rectangular flight case made by Finnish company Transit Case.
"The guitar's serial number is: T0842201
"If you have seen the guitar, or you know where it is, PLEASE contact the police and send an e-mail to: mitja.harvilahti@gmail.com. You can also call or send SMS to +358451376836.
"The person who finds the guitar or gives the clue that leads us finding it, will be rewarded with 400 euros (approximately $530).
"The guitar was Janne's [Perttilä] most beloved instrument and an important part of MOONSORROW's live performance.
"We beg you to keep your eyes open for this guitar.
"Along with the guitar was stolen Mitja Harvilahti's [guitar] grey suitcase, including clothes, accessories and a Canon Autozoom 1014 Super8 film camera.
MOONSORROW's latest EP, "Tulimyrsky" (Firestorm), came out in April 2008 via Spikefarm Records. The CD contains over 60 minutes of music, including a cover version of METALLICA's "For Whom The Bell Tolls".

New SATURNUS Line-up
 SATURNUS announced new line-up on MySpace:
"SATURNUS is currently working on new tracks with a line-up consisting of new and old members of the band. For various reasons Anders Ro Nielsen, Tais Pedersen, Peter Poulsen and Nikolaj Borg has left the band.
SATURNUS now consists of the founding members: Thomas A.G. Nielsen and Brian Hansen. Guitarist Rune Stiassny which supported us at The Ethereal Sessions tour in 2008 is now a member of SATURNUS.

TIWANAKU: New Demo Tracks Mastered
 TIWANAKU, the central Florida-based metal band featuring Wade Black (CRIMSON GLORY) on vocals, Emo Mowery (ex-NOCTURNUS) on guitar/vocals and Mike Estes (BURNING INSIDE, ACHERON) on guitar, has issued the following update:
"While we are completing the pre-production work for the debut album, we wanted to give you a little something more. Maor Appelbaum of Appelbaum Mastering in Encino, California, who mastered recordings from artists such as YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, FIGHT, HALFORD, F5 (featuring Dave Ellefson of MEGADETH), and many others, has taken our two demo songs and brought out the beast in them!"
Commented Mowery: "Not even a day after the latest press release, Maor contacted us interested in stepping up and making these two songs what they are now. He did an awesome job and even gave us more than one version to choose from! His professionalism and willingness to work with us was right on time! Thanks, Maor! We'll be back!"
TIWANAKU recently posted two new demo tracks on the band's official web site. Check out "Playing God" and "Ghost War" at this location.
TIWANAKU is preparing to enter the studio to begin recording its full-length debut for a late 2009 release. The CD will be produced by Neil Kernon (NEVERMORE, QUEENSRŸCHE, DOKKEN) and will feature a guest appearance by CANNIBAL CORPSE bassist Alex Webster.
The band writes in a press release: "For those familiar with the EP released by TIWANAKU several years ago, the essence of that genesis has been captured, intensified and is ready to be unleashed as a truly new breed of beast."

EDEN\'S CURSE: New Video Featuring PAMELA MOORE Available
 Multinational melodic metallers EDEN'S CURSE have released the video for "Angels & Demons" (see below) which includes a duet with Pamela Moore, best known for her performance as Sister Mary on QUEENSRŸCHE's 1988 epic release "Operation: Mindcrime" and 2006's sequel "Operation: Mindcrime II".
"Angels & Demons" will be featured on Damien Dante's forthcoming original motion picture "Jezebeth", which will be released via Satania 6 Films later in 2009, as well as the Dark Star Records accompanying soundtrack. The band has also inked a deal to include the promo video as a bonus inclusion on the DVD release of "Jezebeth".
EDEN'S CURSE will head out on tour of the U.K. and Ireland next month with Finnish power metal sensations STRATOVARIUS and Greek melodic metallers FIREWIND.

DEATH BREATH Working On New Album

LAY DOWN ROTTEN: Five Songs From \'Gospel Of The Wretched\' Available For Streaming
 German death metallers LAY DOWN ROTTEN will release their fifth album, "Gospel Of The Wretched", in Europe on May 11 via Metal Blade Records (May 8 in Germany). The CD was recorded at the Desert Inn studios in Germany and was mixed by Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY, BLOODBATH) at Unisound studios in Örebro, Sweden.
Five songs from the album are now available for streaming at this location.
According to a press release, "'Gospel Of The Wretched' not only features nine songs of supreme death metal but also guest appearances by three of the most legendary death metal singers in history: Martin van Drunen (HAIL OF BULLETS, ASPHYX, PESTILENCE), Marc Grewe (MORGOTH) and Dan Swanö. Guitarist Daniel Jakobi says, "This is like a dream come true for all of us since we grew up listening to those masterpieces they appeared on." He adds, "This is easily our most ambitious album so far offering the best sound quality of all albums we recorded yet!"

SONATA ARCTICA Guitarist\'s Solo Album Due In June
 Spinefarm Records has announced a mid-June release date for the third solo album from SONATA ARCTICA guitarist Elias Viljanen. According to the label "there will be 12 tracks on the album and 10 of the tracks will be instrumental." Guest musicians on the CD include vocalists Marco Hietala (NIGHTWISH, TAROT) and Tony Kakko (SONATA ARCTICA), keyboardist Henrik Klingenberg (SONATA ARCTICA), bassist Jari Kainulainen (EVERGREY, ex-STRATOVARIUS) and drummer Mikko Sirén (APOCALYPTICA).
Viljanen has been touted as Finland's answer to Joe Satriani, and his second solo album, "The Leadstar" (2005), featured "lightning speed, spark flying chops, flashy moves, and supreme melodies that rise from below and expand beyond the heavens," according to a press release. Former URIAH HEEP Tour Manager Dies
 Legendary progressive rock veterans URIAH HEEP have issued the following update:
"It is with much regret that we inform you of the death of Peter Gibbs. Peter was the tour manager during the 'High And Mighty' era (1976) of URIAH HEEP's history and is listed on this album as the tour manager on the rear sleeve. Pete lived in Eyemouth in 'the borders' of Scotland and England. Our deepest condolences go out to Peter's friends and family."
URIAH HEEP released its first studio album in almost ten years, "Wake The Sleeper", in the U.S. on August 26, 2008 via Noise/Sanctuary Records.
