Video: DEE SNIDER Performs At U.K.'s BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR

Video: DEE SNIDER Performs At U.K.'s BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR

Fan-filmed video footage of Dee Snider's August 11 perormance at this year's Bloodstock Open Air festival at Catton Park, Derbyshire, United Kingdom can be seen below.

The TWISTED SISTER frontman is continuing to tour in support of his latest solo album, "For The Love Of Metal", which was released in July 2018 via Napalm Records. The disc, which was produced by HATEBREED vocalist Jamey Jasta, features contributions from Howard Jones (ex-KILLSWITCH ENGAGE), Mark Morton (LAMB OF GOD), Alissa White-Gluz (ARCH ENEMY), Joel Grind and Nick Bellmore (TOXIC HOLOCAUST), and Charlie Bellmore (KINGDOM OF SORROW).

Snider told Decibel magazine about the musical direction of "For The Love Of Metal": "I love contemporary metal and I think that's why it sounds so genuine. I go to shows. My kids are all metalheads, especially my daughter, she's hardcore. Over the years, because she was so young, I had to escort her to these shows, so I was exposed to all these hardcore bands. I love the passion, and I love the 'I've got nothing to lose' attitude that these bands have. That's what you lose when you're successful. You lose that fearlessness. I'd much rather listen to bands that have that heart and that passion than listen to people who have lost it. I've always been in tune with that and have loved it. Jamey, in writing, we sat and talked endlessly about what matters to me now and about what I wanted to say now and where was I at emotionally now."

In a separate interview with Distorted Sound, Snider said that he has found his place in the contemporary music scene with "For The Love Of Metal". "I'm so happy to be doing this," he said. "This record defines me as a person who wants to feel vital what I'm doing now matters and counts. I'm so happy I thought there wasn't that place in music for me. I've been doing Broadway, radio, TV, movies, I've been finding my place now with other things that I've been doing, but my first love is metal and music, and to do a record that I feel is a place now… My wife said she hasn't seen me this happy in a long time, and I'm always happy. She said I have an odd, childlike glee. It's crazy. I know, I'm [64] and not that I feel it. I'm healthy, people see me rock and their minds are blowing. I didn't think at this point in my life, this would be happening."

TWISTED SISTER called it quits in 2016 after completing a farewell 40th-anniversary tour.

ENDSEEKER Premier "Cure" Music Video

ENDSEEKER Premier "Cure" Music Video

Hamburg, Germany-based death metal act, Endseeker, have released a video for "Cure", a track from their upcoming album The Harvest, out via Metal Blade on September 13. Watch the clip below, and pre-order the new album here.

Pre-orders for the album are available in a number of formats:

- Ltd. Digi-CD w/bonustrack
- 180 g black vinyl
- Dead gold marbled vinyl (ltd. 300)
- Light grey/blue marbled vinyl (ltd. 200)
- Black/white splatter vinyl (ltd. 100/Kingsroad exclusive)
- Cool grey marbled vinyl (ltd. 100/US-exclusive)

Endseeker worked once again with Eike Freese (Heaven Shall Burn, Deep Purple, Gamma Ray), the same producer behind their 2017 debut album Flesh Hammer Prophecy. The album was laid down at Chameleon Studios, Hamburg, and it was described as "a painless, pleasurable process for all." Everything on The Harvest feels natural, the songs flowing freely without being predictable, and doing the maximum amount of damage as they thunder from the speakers.

The band adds: "The new album provides a lot of diversity and surprises. The vocals are varied and the melodies are catchy, but it's still far away from mainstream. You can hear the influential heritage but we hopefully also added some new and relevant flavor to it."

The album's release in September, which coincides with traditional harvest seasons, which was a source of inspiration for the record. "It's where nature starts to shut down. Fruits ripen, fields get mowed down, people and animals start to prepare for winter by storing stocks. It's a time of death. Leaves fall off the trees, hibernation is coming closer, the days get shorter and soon everything turns grey. It's almost magical to see how everything seemingly dies just to resurrect in spring to fulfill another whole spin. These are strong images that are closely related to our vision of death metal, nothing is as cruel and fascinating as nature, and the lyrics are based mainly - but not only - on nature topics."

The Harvest tracklisting:

"Parasite"
"Pulse"
"Cure"
"Spiritual Euphoria"
"Whores Of War"
"The Harvest"
"Epitome Of Decadence"
"Immortalized"
"Vicious Devourer"
"Symphony Of Destruction" (Bonus)

METALLICA's JAMES HETFIELD Defends '...And Justice For All' Production: 'We Wanted The Best-Sounding Record We Could Make'

METALLICA's JAMES HETFIELD Defends '...And Justice For All' Production: 'We Wanted The Best-Sounding Record We Could Make'

James Hetfield has defended the sound of METALLICA's "...And Justice For All" album, saying that he and his bandmates simply "wanted the best-sounding record" they could make.

While "...And Justice For All" is considered one of METALLICA's classics, it has been criticized almost since the day it was released in 1988 for the lack of any bass guitar on the record. Jason Newsted's playing is virtually buried in the mix — and many fans feel that drummer Lars Ulrich, who had very specific ideas for how he wanted his drums to sound, is to blame.

Asked in an interview with the METALLICA fan magazine So What! if Jason ever approached him and Lars to say that the bass was lower in the mix than he had expected, Hetfield said: "He probably did. I don't know what my answer was then, but it was kinda done. I mean, I will say, it was not all about, 'Fuck him. Let's turn him down.' That's for sure. We wanted the best-sounding record we could make. That was our goal. We were burnt. We were frigging fried. Going back and forth [between touring and mixing the album]. Playing a gig. No earplugs, no nothing. You go back into the studio, your hearing is shot. If your ears can't hear any high end anymore, you're gonna turn it up. So we're turning the high end up more and more and more and all of a sudden, low end's gone. So I know that played a bigger part than any hazing or any ill feelings towards Jason, for sure. We were fried. We were burnt."

Hetfield also addressed some of the criticism leveled at METALLICA by one of the "...And Justice For All" album mixers, Steve Thompson. In a 2015 interview with Ultimate Guitar, Thompson suggested that Ulrich was the culprit for the lack of any bass guitar on the record, claiming that Lars wanted his drums to sound a certain way — even if it meant cutting out the bass.

"We wanted it tight," James explained. "We wanted it fucking tight. That's what we wanted. We wanted the snare, we wanted the guitar, we wanted everything up front and in your face and really tight. And we thought we got it. And, you know, we kinda know what we want to sound like. Can we sit behind a desk and make it happen? No. We ask people to do it, and they do it. So [Thompson] did his job. He's got nothing to apologize for or point fingers at. No one's to blame for 'something.' It is a piece of art. It happened and it ended up the way it is for a reason. And for reasons we were just talking about. We were burnt. We're traveling, we're playing a gig, our ears were fried. We were not sleeping. He doesn't need to defend himself. He was a part of an awesome album in history, so I think he should be maybe be a little easier on himself."

James also once again dismissed calls for METALLICA to remix "…And Justice For All" so that Newsted's contributions are more audible.

"All this [bass discussion] is after the fact, and it's, like, who gives a shit, man, really?" Hetfield said. "And why would you change that? Why would you change history? Why would you all of a sudden put bass on it? There is bass on it, but why would you remix an album? You can remaster it, yes, but why would you remix something and make it different? It'd be like… I don't know. Not that I'm comparing us to the Mona Lisa, but it's, like, 'Uh, can we make her smile a little better?!' You know?! Why?"

In a 2008 interview with Decibel magazine, METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett attempted to explain the lack of bass on "…And Justice For All", saying that "the reason you can't hear the bass so well is because the bass frequencies in Jason's tone kinda interfered with the tone that James was trying to shoot for with his rhythm guitar sound, and every time the two blended together, it just wasn't happening. So the only thing left to do was turn the bass down in the mix. It was unfortunate, but for some reason or another, that album is known for the low end being there without the bass being very high up in the mix. It was an experiment, too — we were totally going for a dry, in-your-face sound, and some people really like that sound. A lot of the newer-generation bands, especially, think that album sounds great. But at the end of the day, it was an experiment. I'm not really sure it was 100 percent successful, but it is a unique sound that that album has."

In the Ultimate Guitar interview, Thompson said that he spoke out because he was tired of being blamed for the lack of bass. He remarked: "They flew us out [to METALLICA's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction in 2009] and I'm sitting with Lars. He goes, 'Hey, what happened to the bass in 'Justice'?' He actually asked me that. I wanted to cold cock him right there. It was a shame because I'm the one getting the shit for the lack of bass."

Ulrich told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that fans were extremely vocal about the sound of the album at the time of its release. "I mean, it was unbelievable, you know, '...And Justice For All', " he said. "People were saying, 'That's the worst-sounding record, where's the bass, and it sounds like it was recorded in a garage, and...' But, you know, listen, you do the best you can in the moment and then you move on."

SEPULTURA Begins Recording New Album; Early 2020 Release Expected

SEPULTURA Begins Recording New Album; Early 2020 Release Expected

Brazilian/American metallers SEPULTURA have entered the studio to begin recording their new album for a tentative February 2020 release via Nuclear Blast. The follow-up to 2017's "Machine Messiah" is once again being recorded at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden with producer Jens Bogren, who has previously worked with SOILWORK, OPETH, KATATONIA, AMON AMARTH, KREATOR and DRAGONFORCE, among others.

SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser spoke about the band's recording plans during a recent interview with Kyrgyzstan's TV1.kg. He said: "Since September-October last year, we started putting ideas together, demos. Me and Eloy Casagrande, the drummer, working in São Paulo, just building the basic structure of the songs, and Derrick [Green, vocals] and Paulo [Xisto Pinto Jr., bass] working in their houses as well, putting their input. And we have about now around 10 songs. We would like to put an album with 12 songs — that's the idea — plus record some covers and bonus tracks for special releases and stuff."

He continued: "We're going in the studio in August in Sweden with Jens Bogren, which is the same producer and the same studio we used for 'Machine Messiah'. And yes, the idea is to put out the album in February 2020. We have a concept already, we have a name, but we cannot share it yet."

"Machine Messiah" was SEPULTURA's fourteenth studio album and the eighth since Green joined the ranks. Lyrically, the disc tackled the metaphorical robotization of society and the need to follow and worship someone.

SEPULTURA was formed in 1984 in Belo Horizonte by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, who are no longer with the band.

Last year, Kisser told TotalRock Radio that SEPULTURA was thrilled to continue its working relationship with Nuclear Blast Records, with whom the band has been for nearly a decade. "It's amazing, man," he said. "They are a metal label, and there are people that are on the scene since the beginning, the early days. It's a label that never sold out. Many other labels sold out to bigger companies and bigger labels, you change personnel, you think more on the business side. I think Nuclear Blast has a perfect balance between believing in music — in metal and hardcore and punk — and having the business able to sustain everything… And you see how many artists now are with the label, which is great. It's a great place to be. We have total freedom and support to do our stuff and to work with the producers we want and the artists for the cover — everything. They're very supportive, and they believe in the band, which is everything we need. It's great."

THE WILDHEARTS To Release New Mini-Album In October; "Renaissance Men" Music Video Posted

THE WILDHEARTS To Release New Mini-Album In October; "Renaissance Men" Music Video Posted

The Wildhearts have announced the release of the Diagnosis mini-album on October 4 via Graphite Records. Pre-order here.

This six track mini-album, features five brand new songs and is released as a limited edition special white vinyl with pale blue powder splatter 10’’ (to look like a pill) and as a regular black vinyl 10” and CD. All three physical formats will also include an exclusive bespoke inner gatefold comic strip illustrated by the award winning Hunt Emerson, who last worked with the band on the Earth Vs’ cover and their classic logo.

The Diagnosis mini-album follows the success of Renaissance Men, their first full-length studio album in 10 years, which gave the band’s classic lineup of Ginger, CJ, Ritchie and Danny, their highest chart entry since 1994’s P.H.U.Q, when it debuted at #11.

To coincide with the Diagnosis announcement The Wildhearts have unveiled a new video for "Renaissance Men". Watch below:

“Well fuck me, we dropped our first new album in 10 years back in May and blow me down if we didn't drop a humdinger of an album full of monster riffs and razor sweet melodies. Well, we've not only gone back in to the studio to record 5 new songs that will be released as the Diagnosis mini-album in October, we're hitting the road too. We have some great supports confirmed already, The Professionals and Janus Stark and I know there are some other amazing bands to be added to the rest of the tour.  You're going to love the new mini-album and the surprises we have on there and the tour is going to be one you should not miss. You can’t keep a good band down.” - C.J Wildheart.

The lead track, "Diagnosis" is about “mental health institutions and the medical health profession in this country, and about how it's letting people down. How the system is broken, and how the suicide rate is not getting any less. Depression and mental illness isn't an issue that attacks any one type of person. Whether you're homeless or if you're rich,  this illness is taking people out on a regular basis. The government has pulled most of the funding into mental health research, and as a result people are still ignorant about it. Education is everything. And the more people talk about depression, the more need there'll be for education, and the more people will want educating about an issue that doesn't just affect the people suffering from it, but it affects everyone around them. And when someone is in a desperate position and their hope is taken away, then they're at the mercy of an illness that wants them dead. There's nothing more important in the world than education on mental health issues.” - Ginger Wildheart

MOTÖRHEAD Guitarist PHIL CAMPBELL Releases Music Video For 'These Old Boots' Feat. Dee SNIDER, MICK MARS, CHRIS FEHN

MOTÖRHEAD guitarist Phil Campbell will release his debut solo album, "Old Lions Still Roar", on October 25 via Nuclear Blast. The disc, which has been in the works for more than five years, will include guest appearances by Rob Halford (JUDAS PRIEST), Dee Snider (TWISTED SISTER) and Alice Cooper, among others. Other guest musicians that will appear on "Old Lions Still Roar" include Chris Fehn (SLIPKNOT), Benji Webbe (SKINDRED) and Whitfield Crane (UGLY KID JOE).

Commented Campbell: "I'm really happy to release my first solo album, 'Old Lions Still Roar', worldwide. I'm also honored to have mega talented guests and friends do their thing. Looking forward to everyone taking a listen!"

01. Rocking Chair (feat. Leon Stanford)

02. Straight Up (feat. Rob Halford)

03. Faith In Fire (feat. Ben Ward)

04. Swing It (feat. Alice Cooper)

05. Left For Dead (feat. Nev MacDonald)

The official video for the album's first single, a song called "These Old Boots", featuring guest appearances by Snider, Mick Mars (MÖTLEY CRÜE) and Fehn, can be seen below.

"Old Lions Still Roar" will be released in various formats (slipcase CD, vinyl, digital) and is now available for pre-order. The album will feature two different covers — a black-and-white one (CD slipcase + digital) and a colored one (vinyl).

Campbell told Sweden's RockSverige about the musical direction of his solo disc: "It's not gonna be what people expect. I play piano on a few tracks. It's not gonna be all totally like MOTÖRHEAD. After many years, it's just nice to be able to do what I want. I could do what I wanted in MOTÖRHEAD, but we didn't wanna stray too far away. We'd put a saxophone in when we wanted and a piano and acoustics…"

Earlier this year, Campbell confirmed that he has scrapped plans to write a book. "I stopped it, 'cause I wanted to [a] record [with PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS] first," he told told Greece's "TV War". "Some things must remain a secret. Man of mystery — I wanna be Austin Powers.

"I may do it one day, yeah," he continued. "I've got two Swedish guys [Leif Eriksson and Martin Svensson] to help me write it. I just had too much pressure on last year. I had a problem with my house flooding, and we were trying to make the BASTARD SONS record, and the big shows we had, so I said, 'I need to wait a little bit.'"

Campbell is joined in PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS by his sons Todd, Dane and Tyla, plus vocalist Neil Starr. The group's debut album, "The Age Of Absurdity", was released in January 2018 via Nuclear Blast.

BI*AS Feat. Former KORN Drummer DAVID SILVERIA: 'Hesitation' Video Released

BI*AS Feat. Former KORN Drummer DAVID SILVERIA: 'Hesitation' Video Released

BI*AS, the new band featuring former KORN drummer David Silveria, has released the official Matt Zane-directed music video for its latest single, "Hesitation". David is joined in the Orange County, California-based group by bassist Chris Dorame, guitarists Joe Taback and Mike Martin and singer Rich Nguyen.

Silveria, Dorame and Taback previously played together in CORE 10, which "imploded" last year after releasing a couple of singles and playing a number of local shows.

The "Hesitation" single is a preview to BI*AS's debut EP, due out in 2020. This is the first song that Nguyen wrote with the band during its singer auditions. The track is about anxiety and how it can cause a lot of missed opportunities — if you let it. It talks about overcoming the barriers created by anxiety in your mind and pressing on no matter what. "Hesitation" is an anthem of overcoming anxiety and is meant to be a musical affirmation.

Nguyen comments: "This song in terms of sound is the exact middle ground between 'Pity' and 'Change Your Mind'. It has tons of melody and a smidge of aggression musically and vocally. Fans of the other two singles won't be disappointed."

Taback said about BI*AS: "We received hundreds of submissions from all over the world and heard a lot of amazingly talented people. Rich came in and we just instantly vibed. The songs flowed without a hitch. We were able to get a lot done with him in a very short span of time."

Added Dorame: "I felt that he immediately connected with what we are trying to portray musically; he fit right in. His style is unique, yet familiar enough to be the perfect voice for our music."

Silveria concurred. "Rich's work ethic drives us all to work harder in the studio; it's amazing," he said.

BI*AS made a big splash with its first single, "Pity", which came out in January. The track rapidly reached No. 23 on the Billboard (BDS) Indicator chart and No. 9 on the Foundations (SMR) chart. They have already reached 85,000 streams on Spotify and another 33,000 on YouTube.

Looking to the future, BI*AS has finished writing its debut EP and follow-up effort. They are looking to get into the studio with producer Chris Collier (KXM, PRONG, KORN) before the end of the year to get all tracked.

"The lyrics that I write are both personal and abstract. Every song I write has two meanings; mine and your interpretation," Nguyen told OC Weekly. "I try to write my lyrics vague enough for people to relate to and form their own opinions. However, if you know me personally, you may be able to figure what I'm talking about, maybe."

"This band doesn't feel like work; it feels like getting together with buddies and just having fun," Silveria added. "This is how it should be."

As for the name of the band, Silveria said: "We chose BI*AS because everyone has their own opinions and preferences that influence their actions in some way or the other. Whether we know it or not, we all have our own version of bias." Nguyen added: "It's also short and simple."

BI*AS will hit the stage tonight (Friday, August 9) at the legendary Whisky A Go Go as direct support for industrial rock legends ORGY.

Watch MACHINE HEAD's 'Burn My Eyes' Lineup Perform 'Death Church' Live In Studio

Watch MACHINE HEAD's 'Burn My Eyes' Lineup Perform 'Death Church' Live In Studio

MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn and bassist Jared MacEachern, along with "Burn My Eyes"-era MH members Chris Kontos (drums) and Logan Mader (guitar), recently went into Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California and re-recorded the debut album in its entirety.

A video playthrough of the track "Death Church" can be seen below.

MACHINE HEAD announced in March that it will celebrate the 25th anniversary of "Burn My Eyes" with a special tour. The shows will see Kontos and Mader join the band onstage again to play "Burn My Eyes" in full.

Flynn told Kerrang!: "This 'Burn My Eyes' tour is happening. As Kerrang! have speculated, we are recording new music. We are getting to release new music. In fact, the lineup that'll be going out on tour have actually gone and re-recorded 'Burn My Eyes' live in the studio. We plan on dripping that out song by song. It'll probably be digital-only — just something cool to help celebrate. We filmed ourselves doing it, so there'll probably be some playthrough videos too."

He added: "It's so cool seeing us playing those songs again for the first time, like, 'How does that riff go?' or, 'What was that lyric again?' There are mistakes, but we just left them in. It was just part of this really special, fun, positive moment."

The first leg of MACHINE HEAD's 25th-anniversary tour for "Burn My Eyes" will kick off in Germany on October 5 in Freiburg, and continue across Europe, wrapping in Dublin, Ireland on November 8. The U.S. leg will take place in November and December.

Building on MACHINE HEAD's "An Evening With…" format, these shows will be a three-hour musical extravaganza, comprised of two parts: Part one will feature a battery of MACHINE HEAD's modern classics, such as "Imperium", "Halo" and "The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears", featuring Flynn and MacEachern performing alongside two soon-to-be-announced musicians on guitar and drums. Part two will feature "Burn My Eyes" played in its entirety for the first time ever, with Kontos and Mader joining in.

Kontos left MACHINE HEAD before the release of the band's second album, 1997's "The More Things Change", and was replaced by Dave McClain.

Mader contributed to two MACHINE HEAD albums, the aforementioned "Burn My Eyes" and "The More Things Change", before exiting the group and being replaced by Ahrue Luster and, later on, Phil Demmel.

McClain and Demmel both left MACHINE HEAD last fall.

THE 69 EYES Release Music Video For New Single, 'Black Orchid'

THE 69 EYES Release Music Video For New Single, 'Black Orchid'

"Black Orchid", the new video from veteran Finnish rockers THE 69 EYES, can be seen below. The song is taken from the band's upcoming album, "West End", which will be released on September 13 via Nuclear Blast. The band's 12th full-length record, featuring guest vocalists such as CRADLE OF FILTH's Dani Filth, Wednesday 13 and BEASTÖ BLANCÖ's Calico Cooper, consists of 11 up-tempo rock anthems full of heaviness, black memento mori moments and dark humour and sees the band dancing in the ruins of our world.

Singer Jyrki 69 says: "This is the most straight-forward gothic rock song on the album. The guy talking in the lyrics is a similar kind of old-fashioned adventurer like the guy in white in SISTER OF MERCY's 'Dominion' music video. He likes independent women, nightlife and reads E.A. Poe and Hermann Hesse.

"The lyric video is done like all the music videos on this album, with Los Angeles-based director Vicente Cordero. It was filmed during THE 69 EYES' show at The Regent Theater in L.A. last May. Wednesday 13, DEVILDRIVER's Dez Fafara and FASTER PUSSYCAT's Taime Downe can be seen backstage, among the other usual suspects."

Regarding the "West End" album title, Jyrki 69 says: "The title 'West End' evokes a dark image — when something dies, something new comes up and we all have to change in order to stay alive. I feel like this planet is on some turning point. The end of the western world is near and the question is: What is happening when the west ends? The title has multiple meanings for us… but be assured it has definitely nothing to do with THE PET SHOP BOYS or London."

THE 69 EYES will embark on a 30th-anniversary European tour in November.

LIFE OF AGONY Releases Music Video For New Single, 'Scars'

LIFE OF AGONY Releases Music Video For New Single, 'Scars'

On October 12, 1993, LIFE OF AGONY's iconic debut, "River Runs Red", was released. Hailed by Rolling Stone as "one of the greatest metal records of all time," it was an emotional concept album that focused on a troubled teenager's inability to cope with what seemed to be the worst week of his life. The album connected to a broken generation in a visceral way through its cathartic message and hard-hitting approach, and the band developed a cult-following in the process.

Twenty-six years later, practically to the day, LIFE OF AGONY will continue the story of "River Runs Red" with "The Sound Of Scars", acting as a "chapter two" to their groundbreaking album. On October 11, 2019, the band comes full circle and picks up exactly where their debut left off, revealing just what happened to the troubled boy through intense audio scenes.

LIFE OF AGONY recently toured Europe where it filmed a chaotic, high-energy video for lead-off track "Scars" with director Leigh Brooks of Firebelly Films.

"We decided to perform right in the middle of the pit to capture what it's really like to be at a LIFE OF AGONY show," said bassist Alan Robert. "It was a sweaty whirlwind of raw emotion and non-stop energy... something I'll never forget. And to drive home the message of the song even further, we decided to include a handful of fan-submitted LOA tattoo images in there, too. Literally hundreds of them have been pouring in from fans all over the world and they looked so incredible, we had to use them. It just goes to show how deeply connected we all are through this music, both on an emotional and on a personal level."

"Sound Of Scars" track listing:

01. Prelude

02. Scars

03. Black Heart

04. Lay Down

05. Then

06. Empty Hole

07. My Way Out

08. Eliminate

09. Now

10. Once Below

11. Stone

12. Weight Of The World

13. When

14. I Surrender

"By far, this is the best LIFE OF AGONY record you've heard in years," explains guitarist Joey Z. "We really went back to our roots on this one and tapped into the mindset we had when we first started the band."

LIFE OF AGONY will embark on the "The Sound Of Scars" world tour, beginning in England this October with DOYLE (of the MISFITS fame) and EVOLUTION EMPIRE supporting.

Exclusive: M.I.GOD. Premier Official Video For "Tears Of Today"

Exclusive: M.I.GOD. Premier Official Video For "Tears Of Today"

Exclusive to BraveWords, German progressive metallers M.I.GOD. premier their new video, "Tears Of Today", which can be viewed below. The song is taken from their new concept album, Specters On Parade, which was released earlier this year.

BraveWords spoke with frontman Max Chemnitz leading up to the video release about the song, which stands out as being different from everything else on the album.

Chemnitz: "We don't think about that when we write songs... about the sound of the song or fitting in somewhere. When we write it's just a moment in time. It's more of a case of choosing afterwards; would that song fit on the album? The thing was, I thought about having a break on the album, a turning point (in the album concept), and I don't think that would have worked if we had chosen a heavier, more metal-oriented song. We don't have a comfort zone, so to say, and it's not like we're trying to take a big step in another direction if we write something more mellow or brutally heavy. We could have written 'Tears Of Today' on the same day as 'Solitary Ghost'. 'Tears Of Today' is one of three songs that we chose really early on, before the album was mixed, that we wanted to make a video for or release as a single. It's an important song for us."

German bashers M.I.GOD. have been kicking around for close to 20 years, releasing albums as time and resources allow, earning themselves a small but respectable following along the way. The international market was never the focus so there was never a serious push in that direction, but after the release of the Floor 29 album in 2012 things went quiet, messing up any forward momentum they may have had. This year the band returned with Specters On Parade, an album unlike anything in the M.I.GOD. catalogue. Meant as a concept record, reviews have been all over the map, with one reviewer going so far as to simply call the album “shit.” The band good-naturedly shared said small-minded review via social media, knowing full well that no matter how poorly some people react to Specters On Parade, it is most certainly not the slab of crap they would have you believe.

In actual fact, Specters On Parade is the best album M.I.GOD. has released to date and it’s worthy of international attention. It plays out like a movie, taking the listener on a journey in the same way a film soundtrack offers up an act-to-act or scene-by-scene tapestry.

“I’m a really big movie fan,” says Chemnitz, “which I think is pretty obvious when you listen to Specters On Parade, and that’s how I laid it out. I had no idea how to make a concept album; I just had an idea, I guess you could say, in the context of making a movie. The main thing was that I had a running order for the songs, like a setlist. In my mind it was fixed. But, that idea was created before I had the lyrics (laughs). I only had the music for 10 songs, and I had to put them in order to tell the story, I guess you can say. For example, I wanted to end the album with a really big song, ‘Specters On Parade’, but as I wrote the lyrics that song became the central topic and I had to move it up to the middle of the tracklist. And when I was writing the songs, I realized I would have to make time jumps between them to make the concept move forward, to show that a few months had passed or whatever. That’s why we put the little scenes between the songs.”

For Chemnitz, having Specters On Parade lumped in with metal royalty like Savatage’s Streets, Queensrÿche’s Operation: Mindcrime, Dream Theater’s Scenes From A Memory or even Extreme’s Pornograffitti is an accolade of the highest order.

“It leaves me speechless, really. It’s the biggest thing I could wish for because I love those albums, like Operation: Mindcrime, and I still listen to them. I’m really grateful when I hear things like that.”

OZZY OSBOURNE is a genetic mutant, DNA research proves

OZZY OSBOURNE is a genetic mutant, DNA research proves

In 2010, when scientists at Knome Inc. were looking to study a remarkable human’s DNA, they didn’t ring up Steve Jobs or Beyoncé. Instead, the Cambridge, Mass.-based human genome company reached out to Ozzy Osbourne. They wanted to know what genes had kept the rocker alive through decades of heavy drug and alcohol abuse.

Their findings did not disappoint. They discovered a never-before-seen mutation that may explain Osbourne’s ability to consume alcohol in great quantities and several genetic variations that predisposed him to drug and alcohol dependencies.

“Ozzy is indeed a genetic mutant,” writes Bill Sullivan in his new book “Pleased to Meet Me: Genes, Germs and the Curious Forces that Make Us Who We Are” (National Geographic), out this month. He looks at the surprising ways we’re shaped by our DNA and biological factors that dramatically affect how our genes are expressed.

There’s a gene variant for a sweet tooth, multiple genes affect our enjoyment of coffee and genes even govern our basic emotions, sexual attraction and political tendencies. “After all these years of thinking we were free agents, we’ve come to realize that most, if not all, of our behavior is not of our own volition,” writes Sullivan, a professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

People who are politically liberal are more likely to possess a variant of a certain gene, and scientists can predict someone’s political affiliation by looking at a brain scan with 72 percent accuracy. Conservatives tend to have a bigger amygdala, the part of the brain activated in fearful situations, while liberals often have a larger anterior cingulate cortex, the area involved in analyzing instinctive thoughts.

When it comes to everyday emotions, Sullivan writes, our genes program the brain chemicals, including serotonin and dopamine, that cause us to feel certain ways. “However magical they may feel to you, your emotions are purely biological in origin,” he writes.

The reason that Scandinavian people are often singled out as the happiest people on earth may be as much about genes as lifestyle. A Bristol University researcher looked at the DNA of people from 30 countries and found that the Danes and the Dutch had the fewest instances of carrying a serotonin receptor gene that’s been linked to depression.

With attraction, two different genetic forces are at work. On the one hand, we’re often drawn to people who are similar to us, which makes sense, Sullivan writes. “If selfish genes must yield half their territory to sexually reproduce, then why not recruit genes similar to those surrendered?” But, at the same time, we’re biologically wired against incest and being attracted to someone very similar to us. “Too much genetic similarity yields offspring that are enriched for deleterious traits.”

As for same-sex attraction, Sullivan notes that homosexuality can have a genetic component and has been detected in more than 400 species, from fruit flies to giraffes to whales. There are various hypotheses as to the benefits of homosexuality to society. Some have theorized that gay aunts and uncles are crucial to supporting the family tree in the animal kingdom. Others believe it may be a form of population control, “bringing the species into biological balance with the resources available in its environment,” Sullivan writes.

Meanwhile, traumatic experiences in childhood can alter the way our genes are expressed for a lifetime — and beyond. A 2004 McGill University study found that rat pups with inattentive mothers grew up to be anxious because neglect affects a specific gene related to handling stress. Studies suggest that the same is true for humans. Research has shown that being raised in an orphanage changes the way genes are expressed, particularly those related to regulating the brain and immune system. Adverse childhood experiences, Sullivan writes, “don’t just get under the skin; they get into victims’ DNA, scarring their genetic code in ways we are just beginning to understand.”

With so many genetic factors at play, Sullivan pleads for more sympathy toward those struggling with addiction and obesity. Over a dozen genes have been linked to impulse control. Addiction, the author writes, “has more to do with our DNA than our moral fiber.”

We should even think differently about those who commit violent crimes — and some already are. Sullivan notes a 2006 case where a man went on a rampage, shooting and killing his estranged wife’s friend and chopping off one of the wife’s fingers with a machete in front of their children. He was spared the death penalty because he was found to have a mutation of the MAOA gene, which is associated with malevolence in men. (Ironically, it’s linked to happiness in women.)

While some might envision a future in which people are screened for such gene variants, Sullivan stresses it’s not that simple. Some people could have the variant and be perfectly kind, while that same code could be absent in a brutal murderer.

“A gene is one piece of a puzzle that makes up a picture,” he writes. “You can’t tell what that picture is going to be solely by looking at one puzzle piece.”

Sweden's DEAF RAT Release "Fallen Angels" Music Video

Sweden's DEAF RAT Release "Fallen Angels" Music Video

Swedish hard rockers, Deaf Rat, will release their debut album, Ban The Light, via AFM Records on November 1. A video for the first single, "Fallen Angels" can be seen below.

With this song, the band publishes their first stroke ever and finally reveals the secret of the rising heroes‘ sound.

With Ban The Light, the band serves a dark longplayer with heavy riffs, strong melodies and seductive tunes to twist your mind. The title was taken from the first song that was written for the album – an emotional masterpiece about being different and about standing up for your individuality towards prejudicial people.

Singer Frankie Rich states: "I had a rough time in school being different in every possible way. I had a funny name, red curly hair, parents from a different country. On top of that I was listening to KISS and W.A.S.P. while the kids in my school listened to Backstreet Boys and the Spice Girls. I was miserable from being made fun of because I was different."

Ban The Light is a statement for everyone who has been made fun of in school, had people pointing fingers behind their backs in the street, or have had to put up with comments at work because of the way they dress, what music they’re in to or just because of the way they are. It will be available as CD and clear red vinyl (limited to 300 pieces).

Stay tuned for updates.

STYPER Frontman MICHAEL SWEET To Release Tenth Solo Album In October; Guests Include JEFF LOOMIS, TODD LA TORRE, TRACII GUNS And More

Building upon the success of his 2016 release One Sided War, Stryper frontman Michael Sweet returns with his tenth solo studio release, aptly titled Ten. On the subject of guest musicians Michael comments: “There is a different player appearing on every song. It started out where I was just going to have a couple of guest appearances on it, then I decided that it would be really interesting to bring in different players for every song. I started putting names out there and reaching out to people, and they started agreeing to do it. And then I had guys reaching out to me."

Ten is currently available for pre-order here in various bundle configurations including translucent green and black splatter vinyl, cassette and hand autographed CD packages. The album also has two bonus tracks that appear on all configurations. Produced by Michael Sweet, Ten was recorded and mixed by Danny Bernini at the Spirithouse Recording Studio in North Hampton and was mastered by Alex Saltz.

Regarding the musical direction of the album Michael states: “I’m very excited about this release, there are old-school, straight-ahead metal ideas in the vein of Judas Priest, Dio and Iron Maiden, all the stuff I love listening to!”

As for the Ten album title, Sweet recently stated, "It's called 'Ten' cause it's my tenth album, and because there is a title track on there about the Ten Commandments - a really powerful song. There's real heavy stuff. It starts kind of smacking you in the face and it ends kicking you in the gut."

As I Lay Dying comments, "We are tremendously grateful to have found positive resolve from the worst moments of our history. The previous chapter of our journey was one of pervasive hurt and pain. Subsequent years found us on varied paths - all of which slowly led towards resolutions of growth, healing, and reconciliation. As I Lay Dying's collective purpose is to share a message of hope for everyone through the empowering outlet of music, and we are humbled by the overwhelming support we have received from family, friends, and fans so far.

"We are honored to join forces with Nuclear Blast Worldwide in releasing our new album Shaped By Fire. Their legacy and contribution to the heavy music scene is undeniably incredible and we are proud to call their label home. We are thankful for their support and enthusiasm and together we look forward to sharing the best AILD record yet!

"In conjunction with our new album announcement, we are excited to share a music video for the title track 'Shaped by Fire'. FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH Release "Blue On Black" (Outlaws Remix) Feat. BRANTLEY GILBERT, KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD And BRIAN MAY; Audio

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH Release "Blue On Black" (Outlaws Remix) Feat. BRANTLEY GILBERT, KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD And BRIAN MAY; Audio

Five Finger Death Punch present the Outlaws Remix of “Blue on Black”, featuring iconic guest artists Brantley Gilbert, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Brian May. Listen below.

Proceeds from the song collaboration are being donated to the Gary Sinise Foundation in support of First Responders. You can also stream/download the song here.

FFDP have announced the launch of a US fall arena headlining tour. The trek will start on November 1 with two special kick off shows in the band’s hometown of Las Vegas on November 1 and 2 at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Multi-platinum Canadian rock band Three Days Grace, global rock sensation Bad Wolves and newcomers Fire From The Gods will join 5FDP on the fall tour. Tickets, VIP offers and more, here.

Fans can look forward to packed arenas at the not-to-be-missed rock show of Fall 2019 with direct support from Canadian rockers Three Days Grace. Since 2003, the band has staked a spot amongst the hard rock vanguard, quietly breaking records, toppling charts, moving millions of units worldwide, and making history by holding the all-time record for “most #1 singles at Active Rock Radio ever” with 14. The Ontario, Canada quartet - Matt Walst [lead vocals], Barry Stock [lead guitar], Brad Walst [bass], and Neil Sanderson [drums, percussion, keyboards, programming] - continue to blaze that trail on their sixth full-length album, the aptly titled Outsider [RCA Records].

Says Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Zoltan Bathory about the lineup of the tour: “People always say ‘Rock will never die,’ but for that to be actually true it’s important to have successful breakout bands that create a healthy scene. A scene that can sustain everything from arena headliners to the experimental and the underground. We always understood this so we have been actively curating and giving a platform to bands we think are great and have a chance to make it to the next level - so we took out Nothing More who got two number one hits and got nominated for multiple Grammy's, then From Ashes To New who ended up landing several Top 10 singles. Next we introduced Bad Wolves who are now doing amazing and have three, #1 hit singles. On this upcoming tour we are bringing Fire From The Gods who we think will be another important band for the future of this genre. As for Five Finger Death Punch the band is better than ever, firing on all cylinders so we are really looking forward to this tour and our next chapter.”

Global chart-toppers Bad Wolves are coming fresh off their third #1 single in a row with “Remember When” which tells the haunting story of lead singer Tommy Vext and his incarcerated twin brother. Bad Wolves are currently working on their sophomore album to Disobey (due out this fall) after making a name for themselves with their multi-platinum hit single “Zombie” in 2018 and winning over the hearts of rock fans everywhere around the globe with their explosive live show. Fans will get a first taste of the new album when the band drops their first new track “I’ll Be There” this Friday, July 26 which will be available for streaming and download on all digital platforms.

Newly signed to Eleven Seven Music, up-and-coming rockers Fire From The Gods will make their arena debut on the tour. Hand-picked by 5FDP, they will kick off the tour in conjunction with the release of their sophomore album, American Sun available for pre-order this Friday, July 26.

5FDP will donate a portion from every ticket sold on the tour to the Gary Sinise Foundation which honors America’s defenders, veterans, first responders, their families and those in need. This marks a continuation of the relationship 5FDP started with the foundation when it was named beneficiary of the proceeds from their collaboration hit single “Blue On Black” which has been dominating the Rock radio charts this summer, holding the #1 spot for four consecutive weeks. It features the legendary Brian May, as well as two of the biggest names in country and blues rock, Brantley Gilbert and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Titans in each of their respective genres, the artists came together to merge country and mainstream rock to re-create the classic song (originally recorded and co-written by Shepherd) and to take Country Rock to the next level. “Blue On Black” is now one of the Top 10-Selling Rock Songs of 2019, along with Queen, Imagine Dragons and Panic At The Disco. The song was mixed by Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Shania Twain, Disturbed).

DIALITH Release "Libra" Lyric Video

DIALITH Release "Libra" Lyric Video

American symphonic metal band Dialith have released a lyric video for "Libra". The song is taken from their new album, Extinction Six, which will be released on August 16th.

Gripping vocals soar over an intricate battle of guitar and keyboard melodies, as galloping bass and drums charge forth from the stages of New England dive bars. This is the vivid drama brought to bear by Dialith, a symphonic metal band hailing from Danbury, CT.

Extinction Six draws inspiration from many different influences: symphonic metal, power metal, melodic death, and film scores. The lyrical themes touch on everything from human emotion to fantasy sea monsters -- but most prominently, ecological destruction.

Tracklisting:

"Emergence"
"The Sound Of Your Voice"
"Where Fire Dwells"
"Libra"
"Break The Chains"
"Quiver Of Deception"
"The River Runs Dry"
"In Every Breath"
"Catalyst"
"The Wraith"
"Extinction Six"
