On one special night last November 12, 2014, at a live event headlined by Lynyrd Skynyrd, an extraordinary collection of artists came together at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA to perform the music of Skynyrd, one of the most influential bands of our time. The unique concert featured incredible performances by Lynyrd Skynyrd, including an unforgettable rendition of “Travelin Man”, performed as a duet between Johnny Van Zant and his late brother Ronnie, who appeared via archival video.

Special guests who took the stage that night include Gregg Allman who performed his bluesy version of the classic “Tuesday’s Gone”, Cheap Trick doing “Gimme Back My Bullets”, Peter Frampton rocking out to “Call Me The Breeze”, Alabama doing “Gimme Three Steps” as well as appearances by Trace Adkins, Blackberry Smoke, Charlie Daniels, Gov’t Mule, Warren Haynes, John Hiatt, Randy Houser, Jason Isbell, Jamey Johnson, Aaron Lewis, moe., O.A.R., Robert Randolph, Donnie Van Zant and an all-star band led by Don Was, performing songs from Lynyrd Skynyrd’s extensive catalog of music.

With a catalog of over 60 albums and sales beyond 30 million worldwide, Rock & Roll Hall Of Famers Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a cultural icon that appeals to multiple generations. Lynyrd Skynyrd continues to build on the legacy that began over 40 years ago in Jacksonville, Florida. Their last album, Last of a Dyin’ Breed, debuted at #14 on the Billboard Top 200, making it their highest charting album since 1977.

Led by core members Gary Rossington (guitar), Johnny Van Zant (vocals) and Rickey Medlocke (guitar), along with longtime drummer Michael Cartellone, the band also includes Mark "Sparky" Matejka (guitar), Johnny Colt (bass), Peter Keys (keyboards), Dale Krantz Rossington (Honkettes backing vocals) and Carol Chase (Honkettes backing vocals).

PUBLICIST UK Featuring Members Of MUNICIPAL WASTE, REVOCATION And More Streaming New Track “Cowards”

PUBLICIST UK Featuring Members Of MUNICIPAL WASTE, REVOCATION And More Streaming New Track “Cowards”

Relapse Records and Publicist UK are presenting "Cowards," a brand new track taken from the band's forthcoming debut album, Forgive Yourself. Out on Friday, August 21 through Relapse Records, the full-length from the post-punk four-piece comprised of members of Municipal Waste, Revocation, Goes Cube, Discordance Axis, Burnt By The Sun & more is a nine-song showcase sounding like Michael Gira (Swans) on a Saul Bellow bender and presents itself as one of the most intriguing cross-genre debuts in recent years.

Originally conceived as a long-distance experiment, Publicist UK quickly and effortlessly became a fully functioning band. Featuring Dave Witte (Municipal Waste, ex-Burnt by the Sun, Discordance Axis, Melt-Banana), Zachary Lipez (ex-Freshkills), Brett Bamberger (Revocation, ex-East of the Wall), and David Obuchowski (Goes Cube, Distant Correspondent), many expected speedy, aggressive metal. Instead, the band defied expectations with Forgive Yourself by creating nine rousing songs that are as moody and melodic as they are heavy and driving. After writing and rough-recording songs from the band members’ respective homes in Virginia, New York, New Jersey and Colorado during its early days, Publicist UK released two demos. Shortly thereafter, the band signed to Relapse Records and recorded its full-length in New Hampshire at The Wild Arctic Studio with producer Dean Baltulonis.

Obuchowski commented "We went into the studio full of inspiration and energy, intent on getting straight to work---no experimenting, no messing around,” said guitarist David Obuchowski. “Dean had the same mindset, and the album was recorded at a breakneck pace and completed in a matter of days. We feel like Dean captured not only the atmosphere and mood but that urgency too."

With the forthcoming release of Forgive Yourself, Publicist UK will be making numerous appearances across North America in support of it. Tour dates to be announced soon. Pre-order the album here.

Tracklisting:

“Cowards”
“Slow Dancing To This Bitter Earth”
“Levitate The Pentagon”
“Blood Relative”
“I Wish You’d Never Gone To School”
“Canary”
“Telegraphing”
“You Are The Stars”
“Away”

AVANTASIA To Return With 'Ghostlights' Album, World Tour In 2016

EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project will release a new studio album, "Ghostlights", in early 2016 via Nuclear Blast. An EP/single will precede the full-length effort in the fall.

AVANTASIA's all-star lineup will embark on the "Ghostlights" world tour next year. The trek will kick off in Berlin on March 4, 2016.

Comments Tobias Sammet: "In the past months, I've spent a lot of time in the studio, an odd recluse in the basement, secretly working obsessively on something that reads and feels and sounds like a new — very strong — chapter in the story of AVANTASIA.

"I must say AVANTASIA is a fantastic outlet for creativity, and it's truly inspiring to create a piece of music for so many great vocalists and instrumentalists.

"The new material is very bombastic and dynamic, and even though it's extremely diverse, every minute of it sounds like AVANTASIA.

"I'm really proud of what we're creating right now. And as if that wasn't enough: I'm anxiously looking forward to hitting the road again.

"I didn't necessarily expect this to happen, as in the past, it has always been difficult to align the individual schedules of the guest stars, but things have worked out, and we're ready to make it happen one more time! We'll put on a big show, we're gonna play over three hours, and we'll take the fans to a magical world all its own — to AVANTASIA. MAGISTER TEMPLI – Into Duat Out In September; Artwork Revealed

MAGISTER TEMPLI – Into Duat Out In September; Artwork Revealed

Norwegian occult heavy metal band Magister Templi will release new album Into Duat September 18 in North America on Cruz Del Sur Music.

After having deeply explored the different aspects of Crowley's philosophy on their previous releases Iao Sabao and Lucifer Leviathan Logos, Magister Templi returns with its second full-length, Into Duat, in which they focus thematically on some of the central myths and gods of Egyptian mythology ("Duat" is the realm of the God Osiris).

As in their vinyl 7'' release Nyarlathotep (2014), the band had moved even further away from their doom-inspired beginnings, towards a more open-minded musical experience strongly based on filthy traditional heavy metal. Heavy guitars, intense drumming and commanding vocals are key ingredients.

The album was recorded in Oslo between Evil Octopus and Sorcerer studios, with former band member Simon Aarset as technician. The cover painting was done by the German painter Stefan Bleyl.

Following the release of Into Duat the band will embark on a major live campaign which will bring the band to play at the No Sleep Til Dublin Festival 2015 and afterwards on a European tour with Christian Mistress.

Into Duat tracklisting:

“Creation”
“The Lord Of The Morning”
“Osiris”
“Horus The Avenger”
“Anubis”

“Slaying Apophis”
“Destruction”

POP EVIL Release New Single “In Disarray”

POP EVIL Release New Single “In Disarray”

Pop Evil have debuted an all new track from their fourth studio album titled "In Disarray".

"It definitely has a different musical texture than anything we have previously released," says front man Leigh Kakaty. "In Disarray" comes on the heels of their highly successful first single "Footsteps", which was debuted last month and has already cracked the top ten on the Rock Radio Charts. "Footsteps" was officially the band's fastest charting single to date.

Leigh continues, "There’s something about this song that didn’t make us second guess releasing it as our next instant gratification track. We are humbled by the success so far, and can’t wait to spread the word with these songs with our live show."

Pop Evil recently released the fourth of seven in the series of studio / making of documentary videos surrounding their fast approaching album, UP, due out in August. See all four episodes below:

Episode #1:

Episode #2:

Episode #3:

Episode #4:

Pop Evil will release UP on Friday, August 21st via eOne Music. The album’s artwork and tracklisting, as well as a lyric video for the track “Footsteps”, can be found below.

Purposefully assembled at Studio Litho, Robert Lang Studios and London Bridge Studios with producer Adam Kasper (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters), UP is the sound of a rock band cementing a powerful identity that’s steadily materialized over the course of three prior full-length slabs. The inspirational soon to be live (June 1st) staple “Footsteps” - Pop Evil prove their burgeoning success is no accident.

“People ask me all the time, ‘What it's like to hear your song on the radio?’ It never gets old!”, frontman Leigh Kakaty declares. “It's a reminder of hard work, and of having that dream sitting in your garage, trying to write a song that someone would love one day. That dream happened for our band and it's something that we don't want to take lightly.”
“Now it's time to step up our game and let people know we can back it all up,” he adds. “We want to prove we aren’t a one hit wonder. We didn’t just get lucky.”

UP is a bold reintroduction and step forward, with guitarists Nick Fuelling and Davey Grahs, bassist Matt Dirito, drummer Chachi Riot and Kakaty at the top of their game. It’s always a bit cliché, not to mention questionable, when a band says their new album is the best one yet. But in the case of Pop Evil, it’s an absolute fact.

Pop Evil smashes through the odds like a battering ram, weathering the trials and tribulations of paying dues with a steadfast resilience owing much to their blue collar and middle class backgrounds, and building a worldwide audience one fan at a time. As the moniker promises when emblazoned on a CD or radio dial, Pop Evil conjures aggressive riffs and hard charging sing-a-longs with emotional heft and melodic power in equal measure. It’s music by the people, for the people.

Tracklisting:

“Footsteps”
“Core”
“In Disarray”
“Take It All”
“Ghost Of Muskegon”
“If Only For Now”
“...”
“Ways to Get High”
“Lux”
“Vendetta”
“Dead In The Water”
“Seattle Rain”
“Til Kingdom Come”

“Footsteps” lyric video:

The band is gearing up for a truck load of European and Canadian tour dates including illustrious festivals such as Download and Graspop. Click here for all tour dates.

COREY TAYLOR Slams

COREY TAYLOR Slams 'Douchebag' AXL ROSE For Making Fans Wait At GUNS N' ROSES Concerts

SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR singer Corey Taylor has slammed GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose for being a "douchebag" by "making fans wait" for hours to see the current version of GN'R perform live.

Taylor revealed a few years ago that when SLIPKNOT was on the same festival bill with GUNS N' ROSES in Europe, he was told only GN'R members were permitted in a certain corridor. The SLIPKNOT vocalist proceeded to sneak in, play Rose's grand piano and place he genitals on the piano while playing a few notes.

During an appearance on the July 9 edition of the "Opie Radio" talk show, a listener called in and derided Taylor for messing with Axl's piano, arguing that Rose "has more musical talent in his pinkie" than Corey has in his "entire friggin' body."

After explaining that fans know and accept that they will be forced to wait for Axl and the rest of GUNS N' ROSES to begin each concert, the listener pressed Taylor about the piano incident. He asked: "How dare you do that to someone like Axl?" Corey responded (see video below): "Knowing Axl, it's quite easy, my friend. I mean, anybody who makes his fans wait for two to three hours for him to go on stage, I have no respect for…"

He continued: " I love GUNS N' ROSES, dude. I love 'Appetite [For Destruction]'; I think that's a fantastic album. But when you make your fans wait that long — and I don't give a fuck what hard-on just said: 'Oh, we expect it.' Well, you're a fucking idiot then. All right? Figure it the fuck out."

Taylor added: "You know why there are really no original fucking members of GUNS N' ROSES left? Because [Axl] made 'em wait three fucking hours! You want an 'Appetite' reunion? Tell him to fucking stop being a douchebag."

GUNS N' ROSES keyboardist Dizzy Reed, not an original member of GUNS but a 25-year veteran of the group, told The Pulse Of Radio that unpredictability has always been part of being in the band. "The volatility is definitely still there, especially for me, because I've seen a lot," he said. "It keeps you on your toes for sure. I just show up every night as prepared as possible to do my job, and anything else that happens is out of my control. There's really no way to truly deal with that."

Taylor released his third book, "You're Making Me Hate You: A Cantankerous Look At The Common Misconception That Humans Have Any Common Sense Left", on July 7 via Da Capo Press, a member of the Perseus Books Group. The book acts as a commentary on society and pop culture and has been described as "Taylor's take on Peter Griffin's 'You Know What Really Grinds My Gears'."

Taylor is promoting the book with a combination of bookstore events and a solo tour which are one-of-a-kind shows featuring readings from the book, acoustic performance, and audience discussion.

The video is also the first public appearance of the bands latest new member, bass player Micke Danielsson from Sweden’s melodic Mekka, Upplands-Väsby, north of Stockholm, where such heavy weights like Europe and HEAT derive from. In a few days Nubian Rose will perform on Europe’s number one melodic rock festival, Väsby Rock festival, with HEAT, Danger Danger, Michael Schenker, Eclipse, W.A.S.P. etc.

Nubian Rose are:

Sofia Lilja Åkerlund - vocals
Christer Åkerlund - lead guitar
Micke Danielsson - bass
Thomas Weijnesjö - Drums

Nubian Rose evolves around the magnetic charisma and majestic voice of Sofia Lilja, combined with the unique talent of guitarist Christer Åkerlund. In combination with powerful guitar riffs and great melodies, they put a new spirit in the classic melodic hard rock.

Dario Mollo's VOODOO HILL Streaming Snippet Of “Waterfall” Track Featuring GLENN HUGHES

Dario Mollo's VOODOO HILL Streaming Snippet Of “Waterfall” Track Featuring GLENN HUGHES

Italian guitarist Dario Mollo is working hard to put the finishing touches on the long awaited third Voodoo Hill album, entitled Waterfall. The official release date is October 16th. Check out the album artwork below:

Voodoo Hill is a collaborative effort between the Italian musician and legendary singer/bassist Glenn Hughes. The new album marks the first rock release from Glenn since the demise of the short lived power trio California Breed. The musical direction of this new album has a solid foundation in hard rock with some very melodic moments and diverse influences ranging from classic Deep Purple/Rainbow and Led Zeppelin to Van Halen.

Listen to a snippet of the album’s title track:

Dario Mollo says, “I put a huge amount of work on this record, even though Glenn also helped a lot giving me a lot of suggestions for improvement. Glenn did an amazing job in songwriting/performing and I’ve never heard him so pleased about the results! I think this is the album we did together that suits his singing and style the most and in the end this truly became a team effort. Maestro Dario Patti did also a fantastic job arranging the orchestral parts in two songs. Every time I listen to the album a stupid smile appears in my face, so I just can’t wait to see people reactions!”

Musicians completing the lineup are Andrea Maiellano on bass, Riccardo Vruna, Vladimir Ruzicic Kebac on drums and Dario Patti on keyboards and bass.

STRYPER Frontman MICHAEL SWEET Addresses "We're Not A Christian Band" Comment - "I'm Not Ashamed Of My Faith In Any Way"

STRYPER Frontman MICHAEL SWEET Addresses "We're Not A Christian Band" Comment - "I'm Not Ashamed Of My Faith In Any Way"

Stryper frontman Michael Sweet has checked in with the following message to the band's fans:

"I hope this isn't too random and that you understand. I just read a very disturbing post presented by one of the most hateful people I've seen on Facebook. I won't give him his two seconds of fame by mentioning his name (I'm sure some of you have already seen his post/posts).

It's about a recent interview I did where I talk about not wanting to be called and or labeled a Christian band. When I said 'We're not a Christian band' I meant I don't want to be labeled a Christian band. I stand tall for Christ. I do my best to live for Christ (although I fail daily and admit it) and in the end I'll die for Christ, unashamedly. I am a Christian and I'm proud to say it. We're not however a Christian band (at least I don't want to be labeled that). Why? Because we want to reach the world, not just a limited few. When you say 'Christian band' it instantly limits the cause. Why? Many people don't want to have anything to do with Christianity. Why? Because there are some people out there who are hypocritical, judgemental and fanatical who continue to drag the name of Christ through the mud by misrepresenting him.

I hope you understand what I'm trying to convey and realize that I'm not ashamed of my faith in any way, shape or form. We'll continue fighting the good fight and spreading the true message of Christ to the world - Grace, Love, Mercy & Forgiveness."

Stryper will release their new album, Fallen, on October 16th. Frontman Michael sweet recently spoke with Classic Christian Rock Zone about the first song from the album, "Yahweh”, which is now streaming below.

Sweet: "I met Clint Lowery of Sevendust on a plane last year. He said hello and when we got off the plane we took a photo and he mentioned the influence Stryper was on him when he was younger. It was surprising to hear due to the obvious talent that Clint is blessed with. We started following each other on Twitter and Instagram and then we exchanged contact info. I reached out to Clint and asked him if he would like to co-write a track or two for the new Stryper album. Clint agreed and sent me a few riff ideas. I was instantly drawn to the riff that he sent which eventually became 'Yahweh'. I took his original idea and somehow created this 6:30 minute song, which is quite epic and honestly may be one of the most powerful songs we've done in a long time."

Says Stryper: “On the album artwork for Fallen we're proud to say that we had the honour of working with Stanis Decker again (who also did No More Hell To Pay). We sent Stanis the concept about Lucifer being cast out of heaven and he sent us this amazing illustration, capturing the original idea perfectly. We're excited to be able to finally show all of you!”

Fallen tracklisting:

"Yahweh"
"Fallen"
"Pride"
"Big Screen Lies"
"Heaven"
"Love You Like I Do"
"All Over Again"
"After Forever" (Black Sabbath cover)
"Till I Get What I Need"
"Let There Be Light"
"The Calling"
"King Of Kings"

Audio samples:

Sweet recently issued an update offering some insight on Fallen: "The album was written and arranged very quickly (9-10 days actually). This by no means reflects on the quality of the album. It's some of our best material to date and so far those who have heard it have said the very same. Chris Jericho texted me and said that “Yahweh” may be the best song since reuniting. Kevin (our publicist) said that the ballad is our new “Honestly”!

There are songs on this album that coincide with sitting down and reading the bible. The music is heavy and the lyrics are bold and powerful, some taken right from scriptures. Sonically I think this is our best sounding album to date! Everything is crystal clear. The highs are crisp and the lows are tight and punchy. The more I listen, the more excited I am for all of you to hear it!!!”

ABSOLVA Reveal Never A Good Day To Die Artwork

ABSOLVA Reveal Never A Good Day To Die Artwork

British metal band Absolva have revealed the artwork (created by CadiesArt) for their forthcoming third studio album, Never A Good Day To Die, which is set for release on October 12th via Rocksector Records.

Absolva frontman Chris Appleton has this to say... "I was lucky enough to have CadiesArt do the cover for my Restless solo acoustic album earlier this year and after that amazing effort it was an obvious choice to invite the same artist for the new Absolva record. I love the way this artwork gives the possibility of both good and bad stories from the meaning of the album title and that's exactly what we wanted. Fans may also notice a familiar Absolva image included (as well as the band logo); it'll be interesting to see if people notice."

Chris continues... "We have a very good idea what the tracklisting will be, but some of the songs are still developing in rehearsal so we'll not reveal the listing until we've completed the recording. We're definitely excited about the 11 or 12 songs which will finally be included."

The band will be touring UK & Europe to promote the new album; dates are listed in the poster below.

LAMB OF GOD

LAMB OF GOD's RANDY BLYTHE: Confederate Flag 'Definitely Should Be Taken Down From The Government Buildings'

LAMB OF GOD singer Randy Blythe says that the Confederate flag shouldn't be flying over government buildings because it is "offensive to people."

The Confederate flag's symbolism is the subject of an emotional debate in the South in the aftermath of the massacre of nine blacks by a white gunman in a Charleston, South Carolina church last month.

White supremacist and suspected killer Dylann Roof had been pictured holding the Confederate flag before he allegedly carried out the murders.

While some people see the flag as a divisive symbol of the South's proslavery legacy, supporters insist the flag is a honorable symbol of regional pride, a mark of respect for Southern soldiers who died in the American Civil War.

During an appearance on the "Metal Injection Livecast", Blythe weighed in on the Confederate flag controversy, saying: "Most of the people waving that fucking flag don't know what that flag is. That is the flag of the army of Northern Virginia; it is not the flag of the Confederacy. It is a military unit flag, okay?"

He continued: "Now, here is my thoughts… Number one: I am so glad it got taken down from South Carolina's state building. And I'm probably gonna get shot when I'm down in Charleston next time, or something, but I don't give a fuck. These are taxpayers' dollars maintaining this, paying for the people that raise that flag up. This is not a Sons Of The Confederacy building; this is your state Capitol. C'mon! Their money pays for you to run that flag up, you know what I mean? Let's be realistic. That being said, at the same time, and this is something I learned from my father, who is a liberal man, a highly intelligent man, a very moral man, I don't believe in censorship in America. I believe that anyone should be able to fly the swastika, right? I think it's fucking despicable. I fucking despise that. I'm obviously anti-racist, anti-fascist, have been punk rock oi-oi, whatever, you know? But you have that right. Whoever they want, they have the right to display that flag, you know what I mean? I don't think half the people know what it means. It's a military unit flag. I don't think they know what it means, but they have that right. Even the fucking lowest of the low, the 'God Hates Fags' people [Westboro Baptist Church], they have the right to be idiots. We all have that right here in America. Because this is a… Believe it or not, some people say it's not… I've been to some places that are not free societies… This is relatively free society. And the minute we start clamping down just because we don't like something like that, if it's not directly hurting someone else, that opens all sorts of doors, man."

Blythe added: "I think [the flag] definitely should be taken down from the government buildings, and I'm glad of that… I think it's really good that that flag is down, and I think if some people are gonna wave it and all this other stuff, they need to realize what it symbolizes to other people. I think it's simple-minded to equate it with a Nazi flag. I think it's simple-minded because, in fact, a lot of people in the South do look at it as a symbol of their heritage. I have relatives buried in graveyards who were Confederate soldiers, and the local Daughters Of The Confederacy, or whatever, will put little Confederate flags out. I live in Richmond, the capital of the Confederacy. They don't equate it with hate. But publicly displaying it and all that stuff, man, it's offensive to people. Just use some fucking common sense."

VAN HALEN: Audio Recording Of Soundcheck From Opening Night of 2015 Tour

VAN HALEN: Audio Recording Of Soundcheck From Opening Night of 2015 Tour

An audio recording of VAN HALEN's soundcheck from the band's North American tour kick-off show on July 5 in Seattle, Washington can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. The soundcheck — which was witnessed by VIP ticket holders, one of whom made the recording in question — consisted of instrumental versions of some of the rarely played cuts from VAN HALEN's 2015 setlist, including "On Fire", which hasn't been performed live since the band's "1984" tour.

VAN HALEN's July 5 soundcheck featured the following songs:

* On Fire* Light Up the Sky* Drop Dead Legs* Dirty Movies* Romeo Delight* Runnin' With the Devil* Chinatown* I'll Wait

VAN HALEN's show in Seattle featured a number of rarities from the band's catalog that have not been heard live in decades. The show opened with "Light Up The Sky" from 1979's "Van Halen II" and also featured deep tracks like "Feel Your Love Tonight" from its self-titled 1978 debut, "Drop Dead Legs" from "1984", "Dirty Movies" from 1981's "Fair Warning" and "In A Simple Rhyme" from 1980's "Women And Children First".

Two days before the tour started, bassist Wolfgang Van Halen wrote on Twitter: "This is by far the best setlist I've made for us. Can't wait for everyone to hear it. Ya'll are gonna flip."

According to The Pulse Of Radio, "Light Up The Sky" has not been played live in 35 years until now, while "Drop Dead Legs" and "Dirty Movies" had never been performed in concert until the Seattle show.

Other album cuts aired during the concert included "Women In Love" and "Romeo Delight" in addition to hits and fan favorites such as "Runnin' With The Devil", "Unchained", "Panama", "Jump", "Hot For Teacher", "Everybody Wants Some!!" and "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love".

The tour is VAN HALEN's first since an aborted North American run three years ago in support of its then-new studio album, "A Different Kind Of Truth".

VAN HALEN plays in Irvine, California on Tuesday (July 14) and will spend the whole summer on the road, winding down on October 4 in Los Angeles.

Death metal music attracts sharks, documentary crew finds out

Death metal music attracts sharks, documentary crew finds out

A documentary film crew hit upon a novel technique to attract great white sharks - blasting death metal through an underwater speaker.

The Discovery Channel crew, filming for the Shark Week show Bride of Jaws, were on the hunt for a large great white, wonderfully nicknamed 'Joan of Shark'.

Desperate to feature the 16-foot, 1.6 tonne shark in their documentary, they submerged a speaker to see if the shark would react. Unfortunately they didn't manage to attract Joan, but did catch the attention of two others, one of which was 12 feet long.

Sharks 'hear' by picking up vibrations from receptors on their bodies, meaning they can be attracted to the low-frequency vibrations of heavy music, which apparently sounds like struggling fish.

It's an odd tactic, but one that's apparently well-known by shark hunters. Matt Walller, a shark tour operator in Australia, found out that AC/DC records caused sharks to change their behaviour.

When he played the tunes from underwater speakers, the sharks swam straight up to his boat, brushing their heads against the submerged diving cage.

Other than being a boon for metal fans on shark tours, using music, instead of bait, could be more environmentally friendly.

SCORPIONS

SCORPIONS' 'Taken By Force' And 'Tokyo Tapes' Albums To Be Reissued With Previously Unreleased Bonus Tracks

"Tokyo Tapes" (1978), the first live album by the German hard rock band SCORPIONS, and "Taken By Force" (1977), the group's fifth studio LP and the final effort to feature guitarist Uli Jon Roth, will be re-released in November. Both reissues will feature many previously unreleased tracks, including demo versions of some of the most songs dating back to 1977.

A message on Uli Jon Roth's Facebook page reads: "Yesterday Uli Jon Roth and Klaus Meine did extensive interviews together concerning the official re-release of 'Tokyo Tapes' and 'Taken By Force'. Klaus and Uli had a great time reminiscing about the songs and events surrounding those monumental two albums on camera."

As a member of the SCORPIONS from 1973 through 1978, Roth helped pioneer the neo classical style that has influenced countless guitarists to this day. His extraordinary playing can be heard on four classic SCORPIONS records, "Fly To The Rainbow" (1974), "In Trance" (1975), "Virgin Killer" (1976) and "Taken By Force". This lineup also recorded what many still consider to be one of the greatest live albums ever recorded, "Tokyo Tapes".

"At first I didn't realize the impact it had on the rock music scene," Roth told JamMagazine.com about the live album. "When I left the band in 1978, I disconnected myself from the past and was only interested in my new band, ELECTRIC SUN. I didn't follow the success of 'Tokyo Tapes'. Over time, I began to realize that musicians and fans kept referring to that album like it was something extra special. Gradually I understood why. Now I actually see the recording in a different light than what I thought back then."

Uli Jon Roth released a double album, "Scorpions Revisited", in March via UDR. The set contained 19 "re-invented" SCORPIONS tracks, recorded with a band that included Nathan James (vocals), Jamie Little (drums), Ule W. Ritgen (bass), Niklas Turmann (guitar, vocals), Corvin Bahn (keyboards, vocals) and David Klosinski (guitar).

ACT OF DEFIANCE Feat. Ex-MEGADETH, SHADOWS FALL, SCAR THE MARTYR Members:

ACT OF DEFIANCE Feat. Ex-MEGADETH, SHADOWS FALL, SCAR THE MARTYR Members: 'Refrain And Re-Fracture' Song

"Refrain And Re-Fracture", a brand new song from ACT OF DEFIANCE, the band featuring former MEGADETH members Shawn Drover (drums) and Chris Broderick (guitar), alongside ex-SCAR THE MARTYR singer Henry Derek Bonner, and SHADOWS FALL's Matt Bachand (bass), can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below. The track is taken from ACT OF DEFIANCE's debut album, "Birth And The Burial", which will be released on August 21 via Metal Blade Records. The clip was shot by renowned director Corey Soria (DANZIG).

"Birth And The Burial" track listing:

01. Throwback02. Legion Of Lies03. Thy Lord Belial04. Refrain And Re-Fracture05. Dead Stare06. Disastrophe (A New Reality)07. Poison Dream08. Obey The Fallen09. Crimson Psalm10. Birth And The Burial

Pre-order the album at MetalBlade.com.

In a time of endless sub-genre classifications being thrown at bands, ACT OF DEFIANCE cut to the quick, offering 100-percent in-your-face, uncompromising metal. "If you invited fans of all kinds of metal — from thrash to Scandinavian metal to modern American metal — and had them all in a mosh pit, ACT OF DEFIANCE would be their soundtrack," asserts Broderick.

Having a deep-seated respect for each other, Broderick and Drover share a very complementary writing style, instinctively getting where the other is coming from.

"Shawn knows metal inside and out," says Broderick. "He's always been a metalhead, so we come from the same musical background, and we get that world. We didn't really talk about what we might do next until after we had both left MEGADETH, and we were like, well, we came up with all of these great riffs for MEGADETH that were never used, so we decided to use some of those for the basis of what we were going to do with ACT OF DEFIANCE. Out of that spawned a burst of creativity and a lot of newer material, and it was all really exciting and what we really wanted this band to be."

Drover is very much on the same page, believing the two have a special chemistry that goes beyond their musical collaborations. "Having the same vision of what we want to do musically, from a business perspective, and in terms of what we want to achieve with this band, is a really important factor," he says. "It means we can concentrate on making the best music and we can and look at the overall picture, instead of squabbling about who should get more songwriting credit and unimportant crap, which often leads to the demise of so many bands. As far as we are concerned, the body of music we create is what matters."

While Bachand is better known for his work on six rather than four strings, coming into the band he stepped up straight away, impressing Broderick and Drover with his adaptability and playing style. "I'd met Matt many times before and he's a great guy and an all-around great musician," Chris says. "He plays bass like a bass player, which was awesome for me, because when I demoed the songs it was pretty much laying down the bass just so it had some lower notes and then moving on! But he came in and he spent the time and made them into really nice bass lines that added an extra dimension to the songs, which not all guitarists can do, and he really gets what we're trying to achieve with this band."

The final piece of the puzzle fell into place with Henry Derek Bonner, who was recruited following an extensive search. Determined that the band needed to be fronted by a vocalist who was not limited to the standard practice of screamed vocals or clean vocals, they demanded versatility, and Derek delivered. "We started from a list of I'd say 30 vocalists, and we worked that down to a shortlist, and we sent everyone on that a demo to lay some vocal tracks over, and when they all came back we knew Henry was our guy," Drover enthuses. "He can do the super-heavy, growling vocals, he can do the really melodic clean vocals, but he can also do everything in between, and he has the ability to really build and shift within that range," adds Broderick. "The other really cool thing I really like is that his really heavy singing still has pitch to it. There are these really melodic lines even in his heaviest vocals."

It takes only one exposure to "Birth And The Burial" to become abundantly aware that this is not the sound of a bunch of guys screwing around. Kicking things off with first single "Throwback" they throw down the gauntlet, the track erupting in a cascading lead before launching into a breakneck thrash attack, sounding very much like four guys ready to fight, its massive chorus only upping the ante. The merciless intensity displayed is a mode they return to often, "Thy Lord Belial", "Dead Stare" and "Disastrophe" particularly upping the adrenaline and sure to cause mosh pit carnage. However, groove and dark melody are as important as flat out riffing, kicking up plenty to inspire mass headbanging and fist-in-the-air excitement, and they also have their more brooding, atmospheric moments, "Poison Dream" and "Obey The Fallen" possessing a somberness alongside their compelling sonic violence. Fans of Broderick's previous work are aware of his incredible talent when it comes to shredding, and on "Birth And The Burial" he unleashes some of his most breathless and compelling soloing to date, finding the perfect marriage between technicality and melody.

"I really loved the luxury of being able to look at the rhythm behind the solo and have it support the kind of soloing I wanted to do," he says. "What I really like to do is listen to the rhythm and imagine what I want to hear, whether it's a harmonic, rhythmic kind of sixteenth note kind of thing, or a melody that is really haunting and eerie. After I flesh some of that out I let my inspiration take me as I'm creating the solo. I've never been one to typically improv a solo and say that's it, and I wanted every one on this record to really have a life of its own."

Thematically, the band explore their own personal experiences, focusing on some of the harder truths, the aggression of the music the perfect vehicle for expressing such sentiments. "'Poison Dream' is about somebody being consumed by a dream of fame or power or money, and how they will sacrifice anything to get that, while 'Legion Of Lies' is about a person who is constantly casting out negativity and betrayal and trying to deceive those around him, but we hope that fans will take these lyrics and put their own personal meaning to them," Chris says. "You never want to make them so specific to any particular situation, and I think a lot of these experiences are really relatable."

The album title is lifted from the anthemic closing track of the same name, focusing on a person burning their bridges with friends and those they have worked with in past, and asking them to look for forgiveness before it's too late. "The line 'you reap what you sow, the birth and the burial' — to me, that really sums it up, because what you do in life will reflect in the time that you die, and I thought that was really cool in the way it tied into the record," Broderick says.

With recording split between three studios in three different states, Broderick handled vocal and guitar production at his own Ill-Fated Studio in Los Angeles, Chris "Zeuss" Harris (ROB ZOMBIE, REVOCATION, MUNICIPAL WASTE) worked with Drover tracking the drums in Dexter's Lab in Milford, Connecticut, while Bachand laid down his bass at ManShark, in Southampton, Massachusetts. While the band had a lot of work to do, when they headed into the studio things ran very smoothly.

"We had pretty much everything demoed by the time we started recording," Chris says. 'We would change things as we were doing the final takes, but for the most part we knew exactly what we were playing, and from there it was a case of making sure we got really good takes." With artwork courtesy of Travis Smith (AVENGED SEVENFOLD, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD) and their logo and emblem the work of Van Williams (formerly of NEVERMORE and currently of GHOST SHIP OCTAVIUS) the band focused on ensuring every element of their presentation had meaning to it, wanting to offer fans the proverbial full package, and they have every intention of being around a while.

"I want ACT OF DEFIANCE to be a hard working, heavy metal road-dog band, and we really do have what's almost a blue collar sensibility and perspective," Drover states plainly. "We know we are going to have to earn this and that we can't rest on what any of us have done previously, and that is something we are more than willing to do. Believe me."

It's everything that followed it up until 2007. So let's say, pre-'Immortalis' [2007], pre-'Ironbound' [2010], and after the Atlantic years. So '96 through 2007 — 11 years. I think there's nine records, including live records, in there."

He continued: "[There are] some interesting things [in there], because it wasn't the most healthy time for heavy metal. And the cool thing about it was that there was great music out there that, to some degree, was being bypassed by other genres and subgenres in heavy metal. But this thrash metal was pure [and] straight ahead. It's what we're all about. And we made it sound better with the box set. So you can get, let's say, a whole slice of a decade, or history, and understand what we were doing if you weren't there to experience it the first time."

OVERKILL and SYMPHONY X will join forces for a North American tour in September/October. The 24-date co-headlining trek launches at The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts on September 18, hits four Canadian cities, then wraps up with a very special night at Terminal 5 in New York City on October 17 — the first time in the bands’ combined histories that they'll play a show together in their own backyard.

OVERKILL's latest album, "White Devil Armory", sold around 8,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 31 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on July 22, 2014 in North America via eOne Music and on July 18, 2014 in Europe through Nuclear Blast Records. The effort was tracked at Gear Recording and was mixed by Greg Reely, who also worked on 2012's "The Electric Age".

OVERKILL filmed videos for the songs "Bitter Pill" and "Armorist" with veteran director Kevin J. Custer (HATEBREED, TESTAMENT, SUFFOCATION). Custer previously worked with OVERKILL on the "Electric Rattlesnake" and "Bring Me The Night" clips.
