CHILDREN OF BODOM To Enter Studio In OctoberAccording to a posting on the CHILDREN OF BODOM fan site Scythes Of Bodom, bassist Henkka T. Blacksmith has revealed that the band has finished writing seven new songs and will enter the studio the second week of October to begin recording the new CD. The plan is to record nine songs for the album and maybe even a tenth if the guys are satisfied with another song that is currently in the works. Most likely "Tie My Rope" will be re-recorded during the upcoming sessions and the band is planning to record three or four cover songs which are already confirmed. However, this doesn't mean that all of them will be featured on one album; in fact, most of these songs will be used as bonus tracks for different areas and markets, such as Japan. Henkka was reluctant to describe the new material but he kept saying that he is very excited about the new songs.
In other news, CHILDREN OF BODOM guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho made a guest appearance the new album from the Finnish band GODSPLAGUE. He played a solo in the song "Don't Come Back" and he sings backing vocals on the CD, entitled "H8", which came out on September 5.
Two songs from CHILDREN OF BODOM — "Angels Don't Kill" and "In Your Face" — are featured on the "Unholy Alliance Tour" DVD, due on October 30 via American Recordings. The set will feature the the "Unholy Alliance Tour: Preaching to the Perverted" lineup — SLAYER, LAMB OF GOD, MASTODON, CHILDREN OF BODOM and THINE EYES BLEED. The DVD will have an approximate running time of 90 minutes.
The "Unholy Alliance Tour" DVD was shot at Vancouver's General Motors Place on July 13, 2006, was directed by Adam Rothlein (Speedway Films), and boasts performance footage plus bonus material to include backstage, behind-the-scenes and one-on-one interviews, many of which were conducted by the Unholy Alliance artists themselves.

DARK EMPIRE Signs With KILLZONE RECORDSKillZone Records has announced the signing of New Jersey-based thrash/prog/metal act DARK EMPIRE for the release of the band's second album, "Humanity Dethroned". The CD will be mastered by Mikka Jussla at Finnvox Studios (CHILDREN OF BODOM, NIGHTWISH) and will be issued in November.
Formed by Matt Moliti (lead and rhythm guitars, death vocals) in 2004, DARK EMPIRE's current lineup includes Jens Carlsson (SAVAGE CIRCUS, PERSUADER) on lead vocals; Andrew Atwood on lead, rhythm guitar and death vocals; and Samus (SUSPYRE, MUTINY) on drums. Influenced by SYMPHONY X and RAGE, Moliti created DARK EMPIRE to be what in his eyes would be the epitome of the perfect metal band: thrashy riffs, blazing solos and aggressive yet melodic vocals, full of energy and emotion.

Ex-NIGHTWISH Singer TARJA TURUNEN: More Solo LP Guest Appearances AnnouncedFormer NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen is currently putting the finishing touches on her solo debut, "My Winter Storm", for a November 9 release via Universal Music. A single, "I Walk Alone", will precede the album in mid-October.
Tarja rose to prominence as the voice and the face of Finnish outfit NIGHTWISH, with her unique tones and striking stage presence having played a key role in the international success of that band. Tarja is now ideally placed to take her solo career to a whole new level, both in terms of musical ambition and personal profile; to this end, the 29-year-old — originally from the Finnish town of Kitee — is currently working on her first recordings as a solo artist, with a studio deep in the Irish countryside the initial home for these sessions — a studio that has already played host to the likes of R.E.M., MICHAEL JACKSON and MANIC STREET PREACHERS.
"My Winter Storm" is being produced by Daniel Presley (FAITH NO MORE, JEWEL, THE BREEDERS), who has been joined in the studio by a truly stellar line-up of musicians: Doug Wimbish on bass (LIVING COLOUR, ANNIE LENNOX, JOE SATRIANI, JEFF BECK, MADONNA, ROLLING STONES), Alex Scholpp on electric guitars (FARMER BOYS) and Earl Harvin on drums (SEAL, PET SHOP BOYS, AIR), a player personally selected by Tarja after she saw him stealing the show at a SEAL concert. Keyboards and programming, meanwhile, are being provided by Torsten Stenzel, whose previous credits include NELLY FURTADO, MOBY, TINA TURNER, VANESSA MAE and more.
"Some of these new songs are already sending shivers down my spine; they're awakening me to a new way of living, a way that I’ve never experienced before," Tarja said.
Throughout her career, Tarja has managed to achieve that most difficult of tasks — seamlessly joining worlds that, at first glance, would appear to be poles apart; in this case, metal and opera. Could these two ever really stand shoulder to shoulder without one diluting the other? Well… not only did the soprano singer drive herself to achieve the perfect balance, with hits such as "Nemo" storming the international charts, but in doing so she helped to create a style that is currently exerting a huge influence on the rock and metal scene.
Released in 2004, the highly-acclaimed "Once" was Tarja's last studio outing with NIGHTWISH — an album that rose to the top of the charts around the world, from Mexico through to the European Billboard lists; the record picked up platinum awards in Germany and Finland, and turned gold right across Scandinavia, as well as in Brazil, Austria, Switzerland, Greece and Hungary.
I terms of vocal training, Tarja started this (ongoing) journey at the age of six, and in due course she was accepted at the world famous Music University, the Sibelius Academy in Kuopio. It was here that she developed what has genuinely become a signature style, achieving an emotional connection with the listener that transcends language, location or musical type. Whether as a soloist with the Finnish National Opera, performing a concert in a church, or holding the gaze of 20,000 rock fans in arenas around the world, Tarja Turunen is a singing phenomenon.

EXODUS: New Song Posted OnlineSan Francisco's pioneer thrashers EXODUS have posted a new song called "Riot Act" off their upcoming album "The Atrocity Exhibition: Exhibit A" on their Myspace page. The band will shoot a video for "Riot Act" later in the month. The clip will be directed by Jon Schnepp who is known for his work on "Metalocalypse" (an animated program about DETHKLOK, the world's most popular death metal band, on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim), which has been described as "'Spinal Tap' meets 'Scooby Doo' meets Norway." Schnepp is responsible for the character design of the five DETHKLOK members, directs the majority of the "Metalocalypse" episodes for each season, and works closely with the show's co-creators/writers Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha.
Commented EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt: "Having the opportunity to work with Jon on our video for 'Riot Act' is going to be amazing. Having just recently done our own guest appearance on 'Metalocalypse', we went out on a limb and asked Jon if he'd shoot our video. When he said yes, we were stoked to say the least. The ideas that he's come up with promise to make this our best video ever! I usually hate making videos, but this time I'm actually excited about it! It will be unique, and of course, it will be heavy!"

Report: SANCTUARY's Record Label To CloseReuters reports that the recorded music division of Sanctuary Music Group is to close, its new owner Universal Music said on Wednesday, as it looks to develop the firm's merchandising, catalogue and management businesses instead.
Universal, which bought the struggling music group for 44.5 million pounds in August, said the recorded division, which has artists such as THE CHARLATANS and BRIAN WILSON, would no longer operate as a standalone front-line label.
The Sanctuary Records U.S. unit will continue to operate as it is for now but this could be reviewed at a later date.
Universal announced its purchase of Sanctuary in June to develop new revenue streams such as merchandising and artist management as traditional income from the sale of CDs and digital music continues to wane.

Producer RICK RUBIN Talks About His Work On New METALLICA AlbumIn a brand new article published in this past weekend's edition of the New York Times magazine, co-head of Columbia Records Rick Rubin spoke about his work as a producer for such bands as METALLICA, LINKIN PARK and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.
Whenever he agrees to produce an album, Rubin scrutinizes the songs before going into the studio. Rubin works slowly — it can take him years to finish an album. "A lot of that is because of the songs," Rubin explained. "I try to get the artist to feel like they are writing songs for the ages rather than songs for an album. As they write, they come over and play the songs for me. For some reason, most people will write 10 songs and think, That's enough for a record, I'm done. When they play the songs for me, invariably the last two songs they've written are the best. I'll then say, 'You have two songs, go back and write eight more.' "
His responses are instant, specific and constructively definitive. In the early METALLICA sessions, Rubin has been exacting about different drum sounds. "Lars" — Ulrich, the drummer — "will play two things for me, and I'll say, 'This one is great and that one is terrible,' " Rubin recalled. "Lars will say: 'How do you know? They both sound good to me.' Well, I just know. The right sound reaches its hand out and finds its way. So much of what I do is just being present and listening for that right sound."

ARSIS Parts Ways With Vocalist MIKE PARKSVirginia's ARSIS has announced the departure of vocalist Mike Parks, who had been filling in for guitarist/singer James Malone on vocals.
Commented ARSIS bassist Noah Martin: "When James' voice went out a couple tours ago, Mike did us the biggest favor by filling in for as long as he did. I know I speak for everyone in ARSIS when I say we couldn't imagine anyone else doing a better job. However, we felt that with the new album right around the corner, we needed to move on with ARSIS in the ARSIS way — with James back on vocals. We wish him nothing but the best, as we'll always be friends."
ARSIS will enter the studio on September 3 to begin recording the band's third full-length album, "We Are the Nightmare", due in early 2008 via Nuclear Blast Records.
The band will hit the road in November with ENSLAVED and in January with EXODUS.
All of the ARSIS recordings (which include two demos, one EP, and two full-length albums) have won the band many rabid fans among the metal underground, the metal press, and metal musicians themselves. Their 2004 debut, "A Celebration of Guilt", was praised to hell and back by Revolver magazine as "the best in the genre since AT THE GATES' legendary swan song ['Slaughter of the Soul']."
ARSIS' latest CD, "United in Regret", was released in October 2005 via Willowtip Records.

AEROSMITH To Enter Studio In November Gary Graff of Billboard.com reports: AEROSMITH plans to hit the studio on Nov. 1 to begin recording its next album — and that's about the only concrete detail guitarist Joe Perry has about it right now.
"I'm not sure who the producer is gonna be or what (studio) we're gonna do it in," Perry tells Billboard.com. "We may use a few different producers. I don't know. All I know is that the heart and soul of the thing is us getting in the studio and seeing what comes out."
Perry did say that the band was "excited Rick Rubin is now in the so-called captain's chair at Sony; his heart's in the right place when it comes to rock'n'roll." Rubin, according to Perry, will be involved with the album in some capacity, even if not necessarily as a hands-on producer. "It's not just about the music; it's about the feel, and he's one of the few that really gets it," Perry explains.

He added, "We would like to thank all of our fans for believing in us and helping us get as far as we did. I really wish things would have turned out different for us. Thanks to everyone that had faith in us, we'll miss you all."

DAN SWANÖ To Guest On New FRAMESHIFT AlbumFRAMESHIFT, the progressive rock/metal project led by Henning Pauly, has tapped Dan Swanö (NIGHTINGALE, ex-EDGE OF SANITY, BLOODBATH) from Sweden and Magali Luyten (VIRUS IV, BEAUTIFUL SIN, AYREON) from Belgium to sing on its upcoming third album, tentatively titled "The God Delusion".
Commented Pauly: "First of all, I am amazed at how many [singers] sent me their stuff [to be considered for the new FRAMESHIFT album] and even more at how many went through the trouble of writing and recording vocals for the test song I supplied. I heard some awesome singers and although some of them were phenomenal, they still didn't get chosen. They might ask themselves why. The only way I can say it is that I was looking for something different. I have worked with great metal vocalists some of the ones that applied are 'on par' with [James] LaBrie [DREAM THEATER], [Sebastian] Bach [ex-SKID ROW] and Roos, but since I have already worked with that type of vocal performance, I would like to go in a slightly different direction. In the end I found what I was looking for. I actually found a bit too much. I ended up with two vocalists and I could not make up my mind. So, we are embarking on a project that has not been done before. I will not go into detail on HOW the two vocalists will share their duties, but I can say that it will be very interesting and powerful."
FRAMESHIFT's first album, "Unweaving the Rainbow", was a concept album based on the work of Richard Dawkins, a scientist and writer, and features DREAM THEATER vocalist James LaBrie. The second concept album, "An Absence of Empathy", features Sebastian Bach and other musicians.

SAVAGE CIRCUS Announces New LineupSAVAGE CIRCUS members Jens Karlsson (vocals), Emil Norberg (lead guitar) and Piet Sielck (guitar, bass, backing vocals) has issued the following statement:
"After all it's time for some good news again. SAVAGE CIRCUS is happy to present our new official drummer, Mr. Mike Terrana. Known from great bands like AXEL RUDI PELL, RAGE, YNGWIE J. MALMSTEEN and MASTERPLAN not only to the metal community, Mike is a versatile artist with a very unique style of his own. Exactly this style along with his great character makes the MIGHTY TROLL a perfect match. Mike, welcome aboard!
"But that's not all! After being our unofficial bass guitarist for over a year it is more than due to make Yenz Leaonhardt an official member, too. This has been in our heads for a long time, but being lazy bastards we never came up with an announcement. Yenz is known from playing with or in bands like LACRIMOSA, KINGDOME COME, STORMWARRIOR and IRON SAVIOR. Needless to say that Yenz is a great person. Yenz, welcome aboard officially!
"Now with the completion of the CIRCUS we are ready for action again. Work on the new record runs at full throttle and release is scheduled for early 2008 followed by various live performances.
"All of us are totally happy about this great lineup, which already brings so much energy to the band."
SAVAGE CIRCUS' current lineup:
Jens Carlsson (lead vocals)
Emil Norberg (guitar)
Piet Sielck (guitar, backing vocals)
Yenz Leonhardt (bass guitar, backing vocals)
Mike Terrana (drums, percussion)
SAVAGE CIRCUS last month announced the departure of drummer Thomen Stauch (ex-BLIND GUARDIAN) due to personal differences.
The band recently released a DVD, entitled "Live in Atlanta", through Dockyard 1. The live footage was filmed last year at the ProgPower USA VII festival in Atlanta, GA.
SAVAGE CIRCUS issued its debut album, "Dreamland Manor", in North America in March 2006 via Century Media Records. An MP3 for the track "Evil Eyes" has been posted online at this location. The North American version of the CD, which was issued in Europe in August 2005, includes the "Evil Eyes" video.

THUNDERSTONE: Lineup Changes AnnouncedFinnish melodic power metallers THUNDERSTONE have issued the following update:
"We are sad to announce that Pasi Rantanen [vocals] and Kari Tornack [keyboards] are no longer part of THUNDERSTONE. Due to personal reasons and a visible lack of motivation on their part we saw it best to part with the guys, although the decision was not easy and the timing perhaps the worst possible. Everything was done in good spirits and we thank the guys for an unbelievably great and fun seven years and wish them all the best in their private endeavors.
"However, the first priority for us was not to let our fans down even in a situation like this. Therefore, we will go on with the upcoming co-headlining tour with NOCTURNAL RITES as planned. And we are most proud to announce two incredible musicians who agreed to fill in for the tour on such a short notice. On keyboards we will have none other than legendary Jens Johansson, the crazy Swede and a long-time friend from STRATOVARIUS. The vocal duties will be handled by the incredible-sounding Tommi 'Tuple' Salmela who in recent years has shared the vocals with Marco Hietala in the classic Finnish metal outfit TAROT.
"As you can probably imagine, we are more than thrilled to have these guys on board. Book your tickets NOW!!!"

CRYPTOPSY To Announce New Lineup In October; Studio Time Booked For NovemberGuitarist Alex Auburn of the Canadian death metallers CRYPTOPSY has sent the following update to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
"CRYPTOPSY will soon announce the new acquisitions in the band for the positions of lead singer and keyboardist/samplist. We will release new pictures of the band by October and CRYPTOPSY will be in studio for the recording of their sixth album in November 2007. By early 2008, CRYPTOPSY will be ready to tour intensively throughout the world."
CRYPTOPSY parted ways with singer Lord Worm (a.k.a. Dan Greening) in April. No reason was given for Lord Worm's departure, but according to Auburn, the vocalist was "kicked out" of the band and didn't leave of his own accord (

SIX FEET UNDER Films 'Doomsday' VideoFlorida-based death metallers SIX FEET UNDER have issued the following update:
"We filmed a new video clip this past weekend for the song 'Doomsday' from our latest release 'Commandment'. We once again worked with director Mario D. Framingheddu, who also filmed our last video, 'Ghosts of the Undead'. The concept of the clip is pure fucking insanity on all levels. We were fortunate enough to work with Grady Stiles, a.k.a. Lobsterboy, who plays our main character. This has to be the creepiest clip we've ever filmed, from location, to storyline, to cast. It's totally fucked up! We are really proud of this vid and are really looking forward to the release."

MAX CAVALERA Contemplating Surprising Former SEPULTURA Bandmates With Phone CallSOULFLY/ex-SEPULTURA frontman Max Cavalera spoke to Björn Gieseler of the German radio station Radio T on Sunday, August 19 about his current project with his younger brother (and former SEPULTURA bandmate) Igor (tentatively dubbed THE CAVALERA CONSPIRACY) and the possibility of a reunion of the classic SEPULTURA lineup in the not-too-distant future.
When asked if he would be willing to reconnect with the SEPULTURA members Andreas Kisser (guitar) and Paul Xisto Pinto Jr. (bass) if they tried to reach out to him after all these years of not talking to each other, Max said, "I've been thinking about this a lot and I think that maybe I should do that with them like Igor did with me — just call them [out of the blue one day] and surprise them. Maybe that's the real way to fix the things between SEPULTURA and maybe there'll be some kind of cool reunion… put all the bullshit aside. Let's see [what happens]… because, you know, I regard Andreas and Paulo and Igor as more than just friends. Igor is my brother, but Andreas and Paulo are very close and they share very big, strong moments with me that many people have not shared."
On whether a reunion of the classic SEPULTURA lineup is possible, Max said, "I think it's possible — nothing is impossible — but I say that it's something that's not gonna [happen] so quick[ly]. In terms of music, [the rest of] this year is gonna be [taken up by] finishing the [SOULFLY] tours, finishing [the project with Igor] so fans can hear this kick-ass record, next year make a new SOULFLY [album], and then hopefully sometime after that a reunion, sure. Of course everybody knows I like the idea."
When asked if he would ever consider moving back to Brazil after living in Phoenix, Arizona for the past 16 years, Max said, "I like where I live, but I miss Brazil as well. I'm not a very selfish guy, so where I live is not really for me, it's more for my family, especially my sons. I live there so they can have a better shot in life, get better things in life than the choices I had. After they're [all grown up], yeah. I like the PINK FLOYD [way of doing things] — put an album out every couple of years and live in a faraway part of the world — yeah, that sounds cool. Maybe Brazil — north of Brazil would be nice. But always keep making music — never stop making music."
