Man Dies Of Suspected Drug Overdose After KILLSWITCH ENGAGE And TRIVIUM Concert In Manchester
 According to Mancunian Matters, a 30-year-old man has died of a suspected drug overdose following the February 1 KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and TRIVIUM concert in Manchester, England.
The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was admitted to Manchester Royal Infirmary in the early hours of February 2 after becoming sick while at the Academy venue.
The victim died on February 3, and an investigation has now been launched following an inconclusive post mortem into the cause of death.
Detective Inspector Ian Cottrell of Greater Manchester Police said: "Sadly, this man has died after becoming unwell during a night out at the Academy and I want to reassure his friends and family as well as the wider community that we have launched an investigation to establish exactly what happened.
"While we are keeping an open mind, we suspect that drugs are a factor in this man's death."
He added: "I would also like to take the opportunity to remind people of the potential consequences of taking illicit drugs.
"You can never know exactly what you are taking or what reaction you will have and as this incident so tragically highlights, the consequences can be dire, not only for the person taking them but also for their family and friends."

WHILE HEAVEN WEPT Begins Recording New Album
 After two years in pre-production, Virginia-based epic metal band WHILE HEAVEN WEPT has entered the studio to begin recording the first of two brand new albums, entitled "Suspended At Aphelion", for a late 2014 release via Nuclear Blast Records.
Founding guitarist and primary composer Tom Phillips provides more insight into what is clearly the single greatest work of the band's career so far: "If (2011's) 'Fear Of Infinity' was our 'Caress Of Steel', 'Suspended At Aphelion' is without question our '2112' — and anyone familiar with the stories behind those RUSH albums will understand that where we're coming from is very similar, both musically and circumstantially.
"'Suspended At Aphelion' is the culmination of 25 years and embodies everything that WHILE HEAVEN WEPT has ever represented — yet so much more; it's everything we've got to give in our hearts and souls. The album really is, quite simply, the greatest EPIC in our canon in that it is a single, 40-plus-minute monolith divided into 11 parts — in the tradition of the aforementioned '2112' and our own 'The Furthest Shore', 'Finality' and 'Thus With A Kiss I Die', amongst others. Yet, musically… while clearly this is WHILE HEAVEN WEPT… it's very much beyond anything else we've ever done… VERY progressive, but in a harmonic sense more than the technical.
"The bottom line is, if you enjoyed those aforementioned 'mini-epics' — or the 'Vast Oceans Lachrymose' album, for that matter — then this is the elevation and evolution several years beyond those. We've approached this one as if it were to be our last — so again, it's everything we've got!"
While the "Fear Of Infinity" lineup remains intact, the recording will feature some additional highly esteemed musicians, including the extraordinary drummer Mark Zonder of FATES WARNING and WARLORD fame, as well as world-renowned classical guitarist Christopher Ladd, whom Tom has known since childhood. Both will be performing throughout the entire album and more details regarding their involvement will follow in forthcoming press releases.
WHILE HEAVEN WEPT has once again aligned with Gustavo Sazes for the cover art — the man responsible for the stunning "Fear Of Infinity" cover, and Kevin 131 — engineer and co-producer of the "Of Empires Forlorn" album from 2003.
Tom says: "The team we have assembled to realize this mammoth work is nothing short of incredible, and I cannot think of a better way to commemorate a quarter of a century of WHILE HEAVEN WEPT than to release the definitive statement of the band. Prepare yourselves for an epic journey far beyond anything you've ever known from us!"
Lead singer Rain Irving adds: "Never before, have I been so proud to be associated with a musical endeavor. No disrespect to any of our works in the past, but this one is special and worth every ounce of excitement I feel inside. GLENN HUGHES And JASON BONHAM Launch CALIFORNIA BREED
 Think of California and you think of brilliant color and bright sunlight. Think of a breed and it's all about bloodlines and brotherhood. Put the two together as CALIFORNIA BREED and you have the most exciting new band of 2014.
Built around the foundation of legendary vocalist-bassist Glenn Hughes and drummer extraordinaire Jason Bonham, with the addition of the 23-year-old newcomer guitarist-singer Andrew Watt, as Hughes says: "CALIFORNIA BREED is real rock'n'roll — but made for right now."
One listen to standout tracks like first single "Midnight Oil" will confirm that. Deeper grooves than a monster tyre track, more funk than a roomful of bad-asses, this is rock that knows how to roll. That writes its own rules. That just don't care, baby.
But that's only one side of the story. On the flip you've got something like "All Falls Down", a song so beautiful, so soulful and strange and touched by magic, it will make your radio cry.
As Andrew Watt says: "Getting to play with these legends has given me wings. I don't really believe in luck. For me, luck is when preparation meets opportunity. And if you're prepared and you're met with the opportunity, you rise to the occasion. That's what CALIFORNIA BREED has been like for me. So that we've come out with something I'm really, really proud of."
And when Watt calls Hughes and Bonham "legends," he ain't kidding. The breakout star of mid-'70s DEEP PURPLE, the man they call the Voice of Rock, Glenn Hughes has spent the subsequent years working with the biggest legends in music, as a solo star, and guesting with everyone from BLACK SABBATH to EARTH, WIND & FIRE — up to his most recent collaboration in rock supergroup BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, which included Bonham.
As the son of LED ZEPPELIN legend John Bonham, Jason has followed his own distinctive path over the years, fronting his own successful outfits like BONHAM, and playing with LED ZEPPELIN, FOREIGNER, HEART and, most recently, movie composer Hans Zimmer.
When BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION disbanded, Hughes and Bonham had a strong desire to keep playing together. Their only challenge was finding a new guitarist worthy of their musicality. Easier said than done for these stars who between them have worked with some of the greatest guitarists in history — including Ritchie Blackmore, Tony Iommi, Jimmy Page and Joe Bonamassa, to name just a few.
Then fate took a hand in things when Glenn's friend Julian Lennon introduced him to the astounding talents of a New York City hotshot guitarist named Andrew Watt.
"Literally, the first day me and Andrew got together we wrote two songs," recalls Glenn. "One was 'Chemical Rain' and the other was 'Solo', both of which are now on the finished album. I was so moved by the music, I said, 'We've got to record this!' That's when I called Jason."
"I was excited from the start," says Jason, "because apart from locking in as a rhythm section, Glenn and I had started writing together in BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, and we wanted to continue that."
"There was such energy in the room the first time we all played together, me and Glenn didn't even have to talk about it," says Jason. "He was so exited to be playing, though, it was infectious! He was just on stage! No going through the motions, kicking the chair over, everything! I was like, you know what, this kid is a free spirit. It was cool, we all just clicked straight away."
"Nothing though has gotten into my blood like CALIFORNIA BREED," says Glenn. "I feel the same way," says Jason. "I feel like a kid again starting out."
Recording with Dave Cobb at the producer's own studio in Nashville, added all the finishing touches, says Glenn.
"I'd gotten into Dave's work via the RIVAL SONS, who I know and really love. But Dave has done a lot of great stuff. That whole Nashville trip which Dave is a part of. Well, me and Jason don't want to sound like anyone else, we already sound like ourselves, but we felt we needed some fresh energy — and Dave absolutely brought it."
At Cobb's insistence, every vocal was recorded live as the band was playing. "Totally the reverse of what I'm used to," says Glenn. "But I went into that aggressive rock soulfulness and everything down to the whispers, it was all done live! I enjoyed myself so much, just going for it."
For what is on paper a three-piece, the sheer range of sounds and melodies you get from CALIFORNIA BREED are breathtaking.
"I'm the oddball of the group but I'm the thing that makes us different from any other classic rock band. I grew up loving grunge music," explains Andrew. "But my father always played me THE WHO and THE BEATLES and LED ZEPPELIN. I always felt like I was in the wrong generation. I used to make rock music on my own and I'd play all the instruments because I could never find anyone my age that really got it the way I heard it. Then I got to play with Jason and Glenn and I haven't picked up anything but a guitar since!"
"What we've got here is a kid who isn't a hammer-on, virtuoso," says Glenn, "but a whole new entity. This kid grew up listening to Mick Ronson on Bowie's records, as well as Jimmy Page in LED ZEPPELIN. He has a completely different take. And it's fresh and bold and so exciting. It just gets into your blood."

MICK MARS Doesn't Think There Will Be A New Studio Album From MÖTLEY CRÜE
 MÖTLEY CRÜE held a press conference on January 28 at Hotel Roosevelt in Los Angeles where they announced that the band will launch its "Final Tour" later this year, with the group planning to play 72 shows in North America in 2014 and more overseas in 2015. Making it official, the four members of the band had their lawyer draw up a formal "cessation of touring" agreement that goes into effect at the end of 2015 and prohibits the members of the group from going on the road again under the MÖTLEY CRÜE banner.
No mention was made of whether the CRÜE will record a new album to go along with the tour, although the group hinted at the possibility.
Asked by Artisan News if there will be a new studio CD to coincide with the upcoming trek, which is scheduled to kick off in early July, MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist Mick Mars said (see video below): "I don't really think that at this point there will be a new album. We're very much concenrtraing on this last, final tour."
He continued: "I don't know… Maybe I'm retarded or something, but I like to put a lot of effort into this last, farewell tour. And who knows?! Maybe… I mean, we have our own masters and we have all this other stuff… But we can go back in and remix songs and redo songs and redo this, that and the other, and come out with different versions of different things, so that's not an entirely impossible thing that could happen. But so far, we're just mostly concentrating on what the show is gonna be about, where we're going, lining up the dates… doing that kind of a thing."
MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx last month said that that it's unlikely that the band will release another full-length album of new material and will instead make select tracks available via special projects in order to maximize their impact. He told the Rapid City, South Dakota radio station 95.1 KSKY: "We have music written, [but] it's not put together yet," Sixx replied. He added: "It's hard, to be honest with you, to spend six [or] nine months to write eleven songs — all those lyrics… everything… the vocals, the guitars, the bass, the sonics, the mixing, the mastering, the artwork… You put it out and nothing [happens], because now people cherry-pick songs. So we go, 'Why don't we write songs and find vehicles to get one, two or four songs to ten million people rather than eleven songs to a hundred thousand people. That's how we're thinking. I don't know if it's right or wrong, but that's how we're thinking."
MÖTLEY CRÜE in 2012 released a brand new song called "Sex" to coincide with the launch of the band's North American co-headlining tour with KISS.
Written when the group was together during their residency in Las Vegas in February 2012, "Sex" was the first studio track from the CRÜE since their June 2008 release of "Saints Of Los Angeles". The song was recorded at MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee's studio called The Atrium in Calabasas, California.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH To Release 'The House Of The Rising Sun' Single, Video
 Las Vegas metallers FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH have selected their surprising cover of the classic folk song "The House Of The Rising Sun" as the next single from their recently released album, "The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell Volume 2". The disc came out on November 19, 2013 and is the second half of a two-record set, with "Volume 1" coming out in July 2013.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH recently filmed a "gasoline and rocket-fuel-soaked video" for "The House Of The Rising Sun" in the desert.
According to The Pulse Of Radio, the original author of "The House Of The Rising Sun" is unknown and the song's roots may date back to the 16th century.
The oldest known existing recording is by Appalachian artists Clarence "Tom" Ashley and Gwen Foster, who recorded it for Vocalion Records in 1934.
The most successful commercial version was recorded by the English rock group THE ANIMALS in 1964, which was a No. 1 hit in the U.K., the U.S., Sweden, Finland and Canada.
The members of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH discussed in a recently released video clip (see below) how they changed up the classic song to give it a hard-rock vibe, most notably, by switching the song's time signature from 6/8 to 4/4.
"We had the idea to do this for a while," explained guitarist Zoltan Bathory. "The interesting thing about this song is that [it's] actually in a time signature of 6/8 which is a waltz… and rock music and waltz doesn't necessarily mix right."
He continued: "So basically the challenge was: 'How do we make this song work? How do we take away that goofy vibe and how do we make it into a rock structure?'"
"The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell Volume 2" sold 77,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 2 on The Billboard 200 chart.
The first half of "The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell" debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard album chart, selling 113,000 copies in its first week of release.

SALIVA Returns With New Singer, Label, Single, Album And Tour
 If you counted SALIVA out when you heard that they had parted ways with singer Josey Scott, you have been proven dead wrong — all you have to do is give a listen to the group's upcoming single, "Rise Up" (impacting radio and available for purchase via all digital stores on February 18), and album of the same name (April 29, via Rum Bum). And with new singer Bobby Amaru firmly in place, it appears as though there is a bright future for the new-look SALIVA lineup, which also includes guitarist Wayne Swinny, bassist Dave Novotny, and drummer Paul Crosby.
"We're lucky to have found him," says Swinny about his new bandmate. "We discovered him through one of our old crew guys. He really energized the rest of us. He's a great songwriter, and a top-shelf producer in his own right."
With acclaimed producer Bobby Huff (PAPA ROACH, 3 DOORS DOWN) on board, all the pieces seem to be in place. And SALIVA has delivered with their new single, "Rise Up". "'Rise Up' ...it's a statement on where we're at," adds Swinny. "The title just has that fire to it."
And if you are a longtime SALIVA fan, you are sure to be extremely pleased with the full-length "Rise Up" — a bold record full of big hooks, swagger and plenty of guitars. And, outside of the ballad "Lost", it's first and foremost a rock record. These are songs that kick hard, from the immediacy of the aforementioned "Rise Up", to the slow build of "Choke", and the rollickin' "Redneck Freakshow", a song the band seems particularly proud of.
SALIVA has already debuted a number of new songs live, with Amaru seamlessly working his way into the lineup. "The audiences have been great," says the singer. "I think we have a whole new energy on stage." Expect to see the band on tour the rest of the year and well into next. "It's definitely a throwback, fun, party rock show," adds Swinny. "And Bobby's putting his own spin on the older material."
Another piece to the puzzle has been uniting with a new independent label, Rum Bum Records, founded by Luis Bacardi, based in Miami, Florida. There's certainly a lot of revitalized energy on display throughout "Rise Up". And despite his late arrival, Amaru thinks he knows why SALIVA in 2014 sounds as vital as they were in 2001. "We've just gone back to the basics. You know, being a rock band," he says.

I AM HERESY: 'March Of The Black Earth' Video Released
 Delaware/New Jersey sextet I AM HERESY will release its second full-length album, "Thy Will", on March 4 (one day earlier internationally) via Century Media Records. The CD was engineered and produced by John Ferrara at Portrait Studios, who also helmed I AM HERESY's "O Day Star, Son Of Dawn" EP. The new effort was mastered by Kevin Mattesky at Phantom Center Media.

I AM HERESY singer Nathan Gray had this to say about "March Of The Black Earth": "'March Of Black Earth', through symbolism and archetype, stands in defiance of the standard views of 'good' and 'evil.' It speaks of human exploration into a life without fear or reverence for imaginary deities, who are bent on suppressing our most natural desires. If those deities deem a lust for knowledge, freedom of our carnal self, and disobedience to be sinful, then let us become the best sinners we can be!"
He continued: "Each suffering character in the video represents self-sacrifice, killing what is left of our self-expression. The ominous beast in the plague mask represents each character's individual oppression. KORN Singer JONATHAN DAVIS' 'After The Dark' Film Soundtrack Released Digitally
 According to The Pulse Of Radio, KORN frontman Jonathan Davis' original score for the new horror movie "After The Dark", composed in collaboration with Nicholas O'Toole, is being released digitally on Tuesday (February 11) and on CD March 4. The music marks the second time that Davis has written a film score, following the movie "Queen Of The Damned". He also composed the theme song for the 2002 revival of the popular TV series "The Twilight Zone".
Davis is actually a big fan of original film scores and gave The Pulse Of Radio a rundown of some of his favorites. "I'm really into Vangelis, what he did with 'Blade Runner', I'm into... I just like trippy scores, like what Wendy Carlos did for 'A Clockwork Orange' and just cool stuff," he said. "I really am a big fan of the movie 'Dune', I love — TOTO did that score. That was a cool score. And then there's the, you know, normal ones, the orchestral scores that are all good. Yeah, those are a few of my favorites."
"After The Dark", formerly known as "The Philosophers", is set at an international school in Jakarta, Indonesia, where a philosophy teacher played by James D'Arcy challenges his class of twenty students to a thought experiment.
Faced with an impending nuclear apocalypse, they must determine which ten of them would take shelter underground and reboot the human race. The decision quickly becomes deadly as each in the group turns against each other.
Nicholas O'Toole recently wrote the score for "Nothing Left To Fear", the first horror film produced by Slash.
"After The Dark" is available on VOD and in limited theatrical release now, with the movie set to arrive on DVD on May 6.
KORN recently released a new video for "Spike In My Veins", the latest single from its 2013 album "The Paradigm Shift". The band heads to Australia on tour later this month.

KYNG: New Song 'Electric Halo' Available For Streaming
 Southern California rock trio KYNG will release its new studio album, "Burn The Serum", on April 15 via Razor & Tie. The CD was produced by Andrew Alekel (FOO FIGHTERS, NO DOUBT, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, CLUTCH) and James A. Rota and was recorded at Grandmaster Recorders Ltd. and Sword & Shield in Hollywood, California as well as at Studio 606 in Northridge, California.

On its second full-length album and first for Razor & Tie, KYNG harks back to the essence of heavy rock 'n' roll, forging thunderous percussion to lightning hot riffs driven by a divine vocal howl. At the same time, they keep their eyes wide open towards the future. KYNG find grandiosity in simplicity. The Los Angeles outfit may only boast three members — Eddie Veliz (vocals/guitar), Pepe Clarke (drums) and Tony Castaneda (bass/backup vocals) — but their collective roar could easily tip the Southern California Richter scale.
Formed in 2008, KYNG broke out of the City of Angels in 2011 with the group's independent debut, "Trampled Sun". The album landed shining critical acclaim for its "California heavy" sound, merging the metallic meanderings of SOUNDGARDEN and QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE with the timeless scope of BLACK SABBATH and LED ZEPPELIN. They hit the road with everybody from THE SWORD and CLUTCH to TRIVIUM and MEGADETH — even being picked to play at METALLICA's first-ever Orion Music + More festival.

Former CANDLEMASS Singer ROBERT LOWE Working On 'Gathered In Darkness' Concept Album
 Doom metal vocalist Robert Lowe (CANDLEMASS, SOLITUDE AETURNUS) has teamed up with composer and NS/Stick player Michael "Dr. Froth" Millsap (SIX MINUTE CENTURY, WELL OF SOULS) to record a concept album entitled "Gathered In Darkness".
The music will be a blending of progressive metal with epic doom metal textures.
Lowe is best known for his work as the vocalist for CANDLEMASS from 2007 through 2012, appearing on the albums "King Of The Grey Islands", "Death Magic Doom" and "Psalms For the Dead", as well as for his work with SOLITUDE AETURNUS.
Dr. Froth is the bassist for SIX MINUTE CENTURY, whose latest album, "Wasting Time", was released in October of 2013 on Nightmare Records. He is also a member of the epic doom band WELL OF SOULS.
Several other musicians will be joining the cast of "Gathered in Darkness", including vocalists Chuck Williams (SIX MINUTE CENTURY), John Calvin (WELL OF SOULS), and David Gonzales (FLUID FREQUENCY); guitarist Joel Gregoire (STRIDE); Don LaFon (SIX MINUTE CENTURY); Simone Mularoni (DGM); and Marc Petillon.
The project is wrapping up the writing phase and is scheduled to enter the studio in early March.

KXM Featuring KORN, KING'S X, Ex-DOKKEN Members: Audio Samples Of Entire Debut Album
 KXM, the new project featuring drummer Ray Luzier (KORN), bassist/vocalist Doug Pinnick (KING'S X) and guitarist George Lynch (LYNCH MOB, DOKKEN), will release its self-titled debut album on March 11 via Rat Pak Records. The CD was produced by KXM and Chris Collier, who is known for his work with LYNCH MOB, Lita Ford and Tommy Bolin, to name a few.
A 14-minute clip containing audio samples of all the songs that are set to appear on "KXM" can be found below.
KXM takes its name from the combination of the members' other projects: K from KORN, X from KING'S X and M from LYNCH MOB.
A pre-order for the KXM album has been launched on the Rat Pak web site. The effort is available in various bundles, includes signed CDs; CDs and t-shirts; and even a phone call from a bandmember.
According to a press release, "the self-titled debut of KXM is something truly unique and special. The songs are powerful, precise, and transcend beyond the boundaries of the imagination.
"In today's overpopulated music arena, true gems become harder and harder to find, but KXM's unified vision rises above the normal and creates its own space.
"From the opening drum riff of 'Stars' to final chord on 'Human Friction', 'KXM' is an album that is sure to resonate with fans from the band's original projects while garnering new ones as well. In a recent interview with the "Talking Metal" podcast,Lynch stated about how KXM came together: "When you are in the music scene here, especially in Southern California, you run into everyone, everybody loves everybody, it's a mutual admiration society. You're hanging out, you are playing gigs and you run into your buds and your friends, and invariably, with all of us, it's, like, 'Let's form a project, let's do something together,' because, ya know, we all want to play together and usually it never goes anywhere, but this time it actually did. It's really amazing. Things lined up.
"Doug has been... The first time I heard KING'S X with 'Out Of The Silent Planet' and 'Gretchen Goes to Nebraska', oh, to me, he was the benchmark. This is the guy that I was born to play with, ya know? He has got it all. He comes from gospel roots, he's got the blues thing, he just does it all. I just knew would be a natural fit. Doug is so good he's a natural fit with anybody. He is a self-contained machine. He's got that very unique bass attack and sound and obviously his vocal styling. He is a poet. He is a great lyricist. A great frontman, the whole nine yards. And Ray and I have been in other little projects and have done things together. We would always touch base but never really got serious.

OZZY OSBOURNE/FIREWIND Guitarist GUS G.: 'I Am The Fire' EPK Available

A first song from the album can now be heard via the video for the album's opening track, "My Will Be Done" (featuring Mats Levén), which was produced by Patric Ullaeus of Revolver Film Company, who has previously worked with DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL, IN FLAMES, SONIC SYNDICATE and KAMELOT, among others.

CIVIL WAR Signs With NAPALM RECORDS
 CIVIL WAR — the Swedish metal band featuring former SABATON members Rikard Sundén (guitar), Daniel Mullback (drums), Daniel Mÿhr (keyboards) and Oskar Montelius (guitar) alongside singer Patrik Johansson (ASTRAL DOORS, LION'S SHARE) and bassist Stefan "Pizza" Eriksson (VOLTURYON) — has inked a deal with Napalm Records.
Says CIVIL WAR in a statement: "We are more than happy to sign with Napalm Records, one of the best labels in the world. Our intention is to deliver heavy metal under the Napalm flag for many years. The civil war has only just begun."
CIVIL WAR is working on material for its sophomore album. The group recently stated: "Without saying too much, we can reveal that it will be more power and more metal!"
CIVIL WAR's full-length debut, "The Killer Angels", was certified gold in Sweden by the International Federation Of The Phonographic Industry for sales in excess of 20,000 copies.
(Note: The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry [IFPI] in Sweden has revised the sales requirements for albums to reach gold status in the country twice in the last 11 years — from the pre-2002 level of 40,000 to the current 20,000.)
"The Killer Angels" was distributed in Sweden via the June 2013 issue of Sweden Rock Magazine and each copy of the magazine containing the CD was counted towards the certification; the album was also sold separately.
The members of CIVIL WAR were presented with their gold plaques before headlining the Metal War festival in Budapest, Hungary. Commented the band: "Selling 20,000-plus in our home country is something none of us could ever imagine when getting into the sessions leading up to the album. Even though we felt we made a solid record, getting these numbers was still something we couldn't predict upon our wildest imagination." CIVIL WAR's debut EP was released on November 13, 2012 via Despotz Records.
Borrowing its name from the novel by Michael Shaara about the Battle of Gettysburg, "The Killer Angels" was recorded by Jonas Kjellgren at Studio Myhrer (which is actually the bed and living room of keyboard player Daniel Myhr), Black Lounge Studio and Peter Tägtgren's The Abyss in Pärlby, Sweden. OVERKILL: Three New Songtitles Revealed
 Singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth of New Jersey thrash metal veterans OVERKILL has just entered the studio to begin laying down the vocals on the band's new album. The CD is being tracked at Gear Recording and will be mixed by Greg Reely, who also worked on 2012's "The Electric Age".
The first three songtitles to be revealed from the forthcoming OVERKILL album are as follows: "Where There's Smoke", "Amorist" and "Pig".
OVERKILL pushed back the projected release date of its new CD to July from the previously announced March. As a result, the band has postponed all shows originally scheduled for March (except for the U.K. dates) to the fall.
Said OVERKILL in a statement: "We are still working on the new record, but this is gonna be worth the wait, with more old-school, face-melting thrash!"
OVERKILL's new CD will be released in North America via eOne Music and in Europe through Nuclear Blast Records.
Speaking to Steppin' Out magazine, Ellsworth stated about OVERKILL's upcoming album: "The new record has a blend of what we've done over the past half decade. I'm noticing it's a more punchy heavy metal record with more dimension than the last record had. Where is it going to end up on the food chain? I really don't know. But my feeling is it's an eclectic collection of moments from us. 'The Electric Age' came across, to me, as kind of a two-dimensional thrash record. This one is punchy but has a whole different bunch of ways to go and things to hear on it."
OVERKILL released a very special limited tour edition of "The Electric Age" in Europe on April 19, 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records. The limited 2CD tour edition included the regular album as well as a four additional live tracks on a bonus CD, recorded at The Metro in Sidney, Australia on September 25, 2010.
"The Electric Age" sold 6,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 77 on The Billboard 200 chart.
