Former HOLY TERROR, JESTER BEAST Members Join Forces In MINDWARS
 MINDWARS was formed when Roby Vitari (drums; formerly of JESTER BEAST) contacted Mike Alvord (guitar/vocals; formerly of HOLY TERROR) about putting together a project in the vein of classic speed/thrash metal and NWOBHM.
Since leaving HOLY TERROR in 1989, Mike has been absent from the music scene with the exception of helping prepare the HOLY TERROR compilation "El Revengo". However, his love of bands like MOTÖRHEAD, BLACK SABBATH, ANGEL WITCH, IRON MAIDEN and SLAYER never left him as he continued writing material in this vein. Roby's idea interested Mike and the two began sharing material through the Internet. Pleased with the results, they decided to launch a band. They settled on the name MINDWARS and solicited the efforts of Danny Z on bass to round out this power trio.
MINDWARS is set to release a full-length record in 2014.

IRON SAVIOR: New Song 'Burning Heart' Available For Streaming
 Germany's IRON SAVIOR will release its new album, "Rise Of The Hero", on February 28 via AFM Records. The Japanese edition of the CD will arrive on February 19 through Avalon.

IRON SAVIOR will play a special release show for "Rise Of The Hero" on February 27 at Hard Rock Café St. Pauli in Hamburg, Germany.
IRON SAVIOR likes to surprise its fans from time to time. Who would have expected a cover version of MANDO DIAO's "Dance With Somebody" from the Hamburg-based band? Well, whatever works is allowed. So frontman Piet Sielck admits that "Dance With Somebody" was originally recorded to become a bonus track for the limited edition of the new CD, "but we simply liked it too much and finally decided to make it a regular album track."
IRON SAVIOR's latest album, "The Landing", was released on November 18, 2011 via AFM Records.

EKTOMORF: 'Numb And Sick' Video Released
 "Numb And Sick", the new video from Hungarian extreme metallers EKTOMORF, can be seen below. The song, which features a guest appearance by ILL NINO vocalist Cristian Machado, is taken from EKTOMORF's new album, "Retribution", which will be made available on January 31 via AFM Records. The follow-up to 2012's "Black Flag" is described in a press release as a "first-class fist-in-your-face album, displaying heavy grooves and sheer power in the best of ways. Refining and bringing things to perfection was the goal, and this has been achieved impressively."
According to a press release, "Numb And Sick" gives another new flavor to a record that clearly points out that EKTOMORF, even 20 years after its foundation in 1993, is still a raging, energetic force with the intensity of a bulldozer.
"Retribution" was again mixed and mastered by the band's longtime producer Tue Madsen (Antfarm Studios).

EKTOMORF's lyrics reflect this situation and deal with discrimination, society, pain and anger but show a strong will to survive and overcome all problems. Their music combines the burning fire of the primal gypsy music with modern elements: groovy, downtuned guitar riffs and aggressive drums, supplemented by powerful and raw screaming vocals became their trademarks.

CYNIC: 'True Hallucination Speak' Lyric Video Released
 Legendary progressive rock innovators CYNIC — consisting of guitarist/vocalist Paul Masvidal, drummer Sean Reinert and bassist Sean Malone — will release their new album, "Kindly Bent To Free Us", on February 14 via Season Of Mist. The CD was produced by CYNIC at L.A.'s Perfect Sound Studios. The effort was engineered by Jason Donaghy (BAND OF HORSES, FEIST, ROB ZOMBIE, RYAN ADAMS), mixed by R. Walt Vincent (PETE YORN, LIZ PHAIR, TOMMY KEENE) and mastered by Maor Appelbaum (FATES WARNING, SEPULTURA, CATHEDRAL, INQUISITION, HALFORD).
The artwork for "Kindly Bent To Free Us" was created by longtime and sadly late CYNIC artist Robert Venosa.

The official lyric video for the song "True Hallucination Speak" can be seen below. About the new material, Reinert said: "It's a bold new sound for CYNIC and marks a gigantic leap in the band's progression. We've had a lot of time to let this material develop and gestate, and it finally feels ready to be unleashed on the world. I've been in trio mode with Malone and Masvidal flushing out a zillion and one details, and couldn't be happier about what's happening with these songs. They are truly alive!"
In a February 2012 interview with Ireland's Molten magazine, Masvidal described the band's new music in the following way: "It's almost like, I don't know how to explain it, but if I had to put it in a box it's more sci-fi, futuristic and alien but at the same time very song-driven. It's kind of like, to me, coming into CYNIC's body more. It feels very modern and at the same time it just feels really cool. I'm big in the space. It's definitely new. It's not like anything we've done before. It's a new color, a new space. I think people will really take note of even the guitar stuff. I'm really shifting gears, I'm trying things in a different way and the way stuff is played. It's a new space for CYNIC, for sure. It definitely sounds like us, except completely new."
CYNIC's latest EP, "Carbon-Based Anatomy", was released in November 2011 via Season Of Mist. The CD artwork was designed by the great Robert Venosa, the artist behind the covers of CYNIC's previous releases "Focus", "Traced in Air" and "Re-Traced".
CYNIC was joined by Brandon Giffin on bass and Max Phelps on guitar and vocals during the group's North American and European tours in support of "Carbon-Based Anatomy".

TANKARD To Enter Studio This Week
 German alcoholic thrashers TANKARD will enter Studio 23 in Frankfurt, Germany this eek to begin recording the follow-up to their acclaimed 2012 album "A Girl Called Cerveza". Entitled "R.I.B." (Rest In Beer), the new CD will be released in the summer of 2014 via Nuclear Blast.
Taking inspiration from the motto "never change a winning team," TANKARD is working with producer Michael Mainx (BÖHSE ONKELZ, DER W, D-A-D, DISBELIEF), who helmed the band's last effort. TANKARD has also chosen to use Patrick Strogulski, who created the artwork for "A Girl Called Cerveza" and is also a student of Sebastian Krüger, the artist that was responsible for TANKARD's previous album artwork up to the 2012 release.
Comments Mainx: "Three times is the charm — I'm totally looking forward to have my hands on the controllers for TANKARD for the third time in year 2 after the band anniversary! Only a few more days left before we will take off recording 'R.I.B.' at Frankfurt studio. This is gonna be interesting..."
Adds TANKARD vocalist Andreas "Gerre" Geremia: "We can hardly wait to be nailing down 10 new songs with Micha and are looking forward to a hopefully productive collaboration!"

TNT Featuring TONY HARNELL: Fan-Filmed Video Footage Of Oslo Concert
 Norwegian/American hard rockers TNT played their second official reunion show with singer Tony Harnell on January 18 at Rockefeller in Oslo, Norway. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.
Harnell confirmed his reunion with TNT in October 2013, explaining in a statement: "After much discussion and lots of soul searching, I'm happy to officially announce that I'll be back behind the microphone with TNT.
"I'm very proud of all we accomplished over the years and proud to have written and recorded all those great songs with my brother from another mother, Ronni Le Tekrø.
"Sometimes it's just time to give the fans what they're asking for.
"2014 is the 25th anniversary of the successful 'Intuition' album and we thought it would be a good time to get out and relaunch this little machine for you guys!
"Can't wait to see you all on tour!"
In August 2013, TNT parted ways with its frontman of the past seven years, British vocalist Tony Mills (ex-SHY). He explained in a statement: "Maybe we did 500 shows or something like that, but not many out of Norway.
"It has been the most prolific live period in my career, and when I felt the stagnancy and the lack of desire to grow and develop any further, I knew my time was done with the band.
"I don't think it's sensible to expect new art from the band after thirty years, just a lot of re-living the past and reconstructions of old albums and performances.
"None of us are getting any younger, but I have a great desire to not stop creativity in my life. I hate wasting days and singing songs from the past to satisfy old fans.
"Nostalgia wasn't doing it for me.
"We were never close as friends or anything like that, so there is no great loss, and I have no doubt they will reform the original lineup and just do the whole thing all over again. I wish them good luck on that. I have other releases to come that excite me much more than that."
Harnell rejoined TNT on stage for their 30th-anniversary concert on June 2, 2012 at the Clarion Hotel in Trondheim, Norway. The group performed a special setlist while accompanied by the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra (Trondheim Symfoniorkester). Also making a special appearance with the band was TNT's original singer, Dag Ingebrigtsen.
After leaving TNT in 2006, Harnell was replaced by Mills, who has since appeared on three studio albums from the band: 2007's "The New Territory", 2008's"Atlantis" and 2010's "A Farewell To Arms".
Harnell's final release as a member of TNT was the "Live in Madrid" DVD, which came out in September 2006 via MTM Music. The set, which was filmed on April 1, 2006 in Madrid, Spain, was accompanied by an 82-minute audio CD plus booklet liner notes from Harnell about his work with the group as well as an additional tour documentary by Darren Paltrowitz. | 0 | |

MÖTLEY CRÜE Announces 'The Final Tour' Details
 After more than three decades together, MÖTLEY CRÜE announced today their Final Tour and the band's ultimate retirement. The announcement was solidified when the band signed a formal Cessation Of Touring Agreement, effective at the end of 2015, in front of global media in Los Angeles today. Celebrating the announcement of this Final Tour, the band will perform on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" tonight and will appear on "CBS This Morning" tomorrow, January 29. With over 80 million albums sold, MÖTLEY CRÜE has sold out countless tours across the globe and spawned more than 2,500 MÖTLEY CRÜE branded items sold in over 30 countries. MÖTLEY CRÜE has proven they know how to make a lasting impression and this tour will be no different; Fans can expect to hear all the band's hits and look forward to mind-blowing, unparalleled live production.
"When it comes to putting together a new show we always push the envelope and that's part of MÖTLEY CRÜE's legacy," explains Nikki Sixx (bass). Band attorney Doug Mark of Mark Music & Media Law explains: "Other bands have split up over rancor or the inability of people to get along, but this is mutual among all four original members and a peaceful decision to move on to other endeavors and to confirm it with a binding agreement."
Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, and Mick Mars will go their separate ways after the lengthy two-year touring cycle. Tommy Lee (drums) explains: "Everything must come to an end!! We always had a vision of going out with a big fucking bang and not playing county fairs and clubs with 1 or 2 original band members! Our job here is done!!!" Of the band's tumultuous history, Mick Mars (guitar) adds: "(It has been) more drama than 'General Hospital' — it keeps 'em watchin' and they keep comin' back." Vocalist Vince Neil says of the finality of the tour: "I'll miss playing with the guys but I won't quit playing rock and roll!! I feel there are a lot of great opportunities and exciting projects after MÖTLEY." The Final Tour will coincide with the film made from MÖTLEY CRÜE's New York Times best-selling book "The Dirt". Jeff Tremaine ("Bad Grandpa") has signed on to direct the opus that is set to debut in theaters globally in 2015, coinciding with The Final Tour. "The Dirt" is not only one of the best selling rock books of all time but also one of the greatest rock books of all time because of its brutal honesty, its unique voice, its multiple perspectives on the same events and its first-person inclusion of all members of the same band. Most rock memoirs are salacious mud-slinging accounts of a single person and MÖTLEY CRÜE was adamant to include the perspectives of all four of its members. Tremaine's intention is to make, not just a great movie about a band, but a great movie about four misfits who, despite themselves and everyone else, band together to overcome the odds and change the history of rock and roll.
"'The Dirt' is a movie I've wanted to make ever since I read the book in 2002," says Tremaine. "I relate to the story on so many levels; my whole professional career has been about boys behaving badly, so I have a real connection to the material. IN FLAMES: New Photos From The Studio
 Swedish metallers IN FLAMES recently entered Hansa Studios (DAVID BOWIE, DEPECHE MODE, U2) in Berlin, Germany to begin recording their eleventh album for an early 2014 release.

IN FLAMES lead singer, Anders Fridén recently stated about working at the legendary facility where such milestones as David Bowie's "Heroes" and Iggy Pop's "Lust For Life" were created: "When I visited Hansa Studios earlier this year, I got goose bumps. There is so much history both inside and surrounding the studio and I want to be a part of that. Magic has been created here and hopefully that will affect us."
IN FLAMES' "Deliver Us" single was recently certified platinum in Sweden for sales in excess of 40,000 copies. (Note: On-demand audio and/or video song streams are now counted towards the threshold required for gold and platinum certifications.)
IN FLAMES has released a video for"Sounds Of A Playground Fading", the title track of its tenth studio album. The clip, which is made up of concert footage, was produced by Patric Ullaeus of Revolver Film Company, who has previously worked with DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL, SONIC SYNDICATE and KAMELOT, among others.
"Sounds Of A Playground Fading" (Century Media) sold around 14,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 27 on The Billboard 200 chart.
IN FLAMES' previous album, "A Sense of Purpose" (Koch) opened with 20,000 units to land at No. 28. This was slightly less than the opening tally of "Come Clarity" (Ferret), which shifted just under 24,000 copies in February 2006 to enter the chart at position No. 58.
"Sounds Of A Playground Fading" was the first IN FLAMES album to be recorded without founding guitarist Jesper Strömblad, who quit the band in February 2010 in order to continue receiving treatment for his alcohol addiction.
IN FLAMES guitarist Niclas Engelin sat out a few of the band's shows last year. His temporary replacement for those gigs was Patrik Jensen from THE HAUNTED.

 The official lyric video for the song "Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer" from Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH can be seen below. "The Satanist" deluxe box, which is available in North America as an European import, includes: CD/DVD digibook in silver mirror slipcase with a high-quality 44-page booklet (with gold foil, UV gloss lamination), supersize poster flag (approx. 3.5' x 5'), wooden black inverted rosary cross, metal pin, black envelope with black communion wafers. The DVD, "Live Barbarossa", includes a professionally filmed show in Ekaterinburg, Russia, as well as 30-minute documentary about the creative process behind "The Satanist".
"The Satanist" was produced by BEHEMOTH, Wojtek and Slawek Wieslawscy and Daniel Bergstrand at Hertz Studio. The CD was mixed by Matt Hyde (SLAYER) and mastered by Ted Jensen (METALLICA, AC/DC) at Sterling Sound in New York City. The cover art for "The Satanist" was painted by renowned Russian painter and occultist Denis Forkas. The paint used included some of Nergal's own blood. Additional art and design was completed by Metastazis (PARADISE LOST) and Zbigniew Bielak (WATAIN, GHOST).
"I wanted to incorporate some of my DNA into the art," Nergal told Australia's Heavy magazine about having his blood included in "The Satanist" artwork.
"This album seems to be so defining of who we are now as people and as individuals, and considering all the instances in recent years, [we wanted] to make it more 'ours' than it is usually."
In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, Darski described BEHEMOTH's new songs as "very atmospheric" and "very emotional." "Think BURZUM meets NEW ORDER meets KILLING JOKE," he added. But at the same time, fans shouldn't expect the album to sound too far removed from BEHEMOTH's past efforts. "Take SLAYER, for example," Darski said. "Whatever genre they deal with, they still end up sounding like SLAYER. Even when they were flirting with nu-metal, it was a SLAYER record. Same with BEHEMOTH."
According to Darski, at least some of the inspiration for the new BEHEMOTH album came from his five-month bout of leukemia he overcame in January 2011, after receiving a bone-marrow transplant. "When I was in the hospital, I was collecting experiences and emotions," he said. "I'm pretty sure that it's coming out now. There are moments I catch myself thinking about how my state was back then. It was me versus life, me versus death. It definitely changed my thoughts a lot. It's 100 percent being reflected in the record and songs I'm writing nowadays. I'm way more radical than I used to be."

METALLICA: 'One' Performance Clip From 'Through The Never' Film
 Video footage of METALLICA performing the song "One" from the band's 2013 concert film, "Metallica Through The Never", can be seen below.
METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett admitted in a new interview with Stereogum that the band could not understand why "Metallica Through The Never" failed to connect with a wider audience. Hammett said, "Our fans definitely went to movie theaters and saw the film, but the people that we were counting on to buy movie tickets — which was your casual moviegoer -- they weren't as motivated to buy a ticket as our fans. For us, that was a big question mark. Why? We couldn't figure it out. We know we made a great movie and we felt good about it, but now it's time for us to move on to our next thing." Hammett told The Pulse Of Radio that the band would nevertheless be interested in making another movie somewhere down the line, but with one condition. "Oh yeah, we totally would do it again," he said. "I think the only difference would be, we would probably get someone else to pay for it this time. [laughs]."
METALLICA footed the entire $18 million budget of the film itself. The movie was distributed in IMAX 3D by independent film company Picturehouse. It took in just $3.4 million at the box office in North America.
"Through The Never" will be released on Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, DVD and digital today (Tuesday, January 28) in both standard and expanded editions.
Among the bonus content will be behind-the-scenes footage, an 80-minute documentary on the making of the film and more.
Despite tanking at the box office, "Metallica Through The Never" did well with critics, earning a "78% Fresh" rating on review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes.

Ex-MEGADETH Drummer NICK MENZA Claims DAVE MUSTAINE 'Blew Him Off' At NAMM
 Ex-MEGADETH drummer Nick Menza claims that he attempted to reconnect with his former bandmate, MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine, at this past weekend's NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show in Anaheim, California, only to be brushed off and told to "go away."
Menza, who was a member of MEGADETH from 1989 to 1998 and appeared on four of the band's studio albums, wrote on his Facebook page earlier today: "I had a blast at NAMM hanging with fans and old friends I also made a major mistake for trying to saying hello to Dave Mustaine at the Dean booth, [which] he totally blew me off and wouldn't even look at me then had his hired goons / bodyguard tell me go away, pretty lame! I'm over it and life goes on!!!"
He added: "I don't hate Dave nor was I trying to get back in the band. [I just wanted to say a] friendly hello, that's all. Nothing more nothing less!
"I have so many other things going on right now that even if Dave asked me back in the band, I would have to turn down the offer."
Asked last September by Argentinean rock journalist Lucas H. Gordon if there is a possibility of him ever doing anything with MEGADETH again, Menza said: "You never know what can happen in the future. It's, like, I'm open to whatever. I would never say, 'I'll never join MEGADETH back up again.' But it's really up to Mustaine. I put the ball in his court."
Following the reissue of the entire MEGADETH catalog, Menza was invited to reunite with the band in 2004. Days after a reunion was announced, Menza was fired after rehearsals and replaced with Shawn Drover. Mustaine said that this was because Nick "just wasn't prepared."
Menza has been writing, recording and producing constantly but only releasing sporadic singles for years. That will all change when he opens the floodgates with the upcoming release of his memoir, "Nick Menza: Megalife", by acclaimed writer J. Marshall Craig.
"MEGADETH was a big part of my story," Menza said, "but it was just one part. Jeff [Craig] has got me to talk about it all!"
Menza is currently negotiating a publishing deal for the book, which was written over the past 18 months. It features rare and never-before-seen photos of Menza with every band he's ever been in, including, of course, MEGADETH.
"It's a memoir of music," writer Craig said. "But a lot more. It's a book about chasing the ultimate gig, the ultimate drum setup, the ultimate sound and, it will come as no surprise to Nick's fans, the ultimate aliens, government conspiracies and anything else his muse sees fit to lay across his path."
Menza's first performance was at the age of two on stage at the Montreux Jazz Festival when legendary jazz percussionist Jack DeJohnette (Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson) placed Nick on his kit. Thirty years later, he was stepping out on stage in front of thousands of screaming fans every night.
Menza, son of legendary jazz saxophonist Don Menza, was at the top of his game when MEGADETH started a world tour in support of its album, "Cryptic Writings", but began to suffer knee problems and escalating pain. Doctors diagnosed him with a tumor. Surgery waylaid the drummer briefly, but he was relieved to learn the tumor was benign and was eager to rejoin his bandmates, who had continued their tour with a replacement drummer. But deteriorating relations within the band exploded and Menza was replaced permanently.

STEVE 'ZETRO' SOUZA's HATRIOT: New Song 'The Fear Within' Available For Streaming
 "The Fear Within", a brand new song from HATRIOT, the San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal band led by former EXODUS and LEGACY (pre-TESTAMENT) frontman Steve "Zetro" Souza, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. The track is taken from HATRIOT's sophomore album, "Dawn Of The New Centurion", which will be released on February 21 via Massacre Records. HATRIOT's lineup also includes Zetro's son Cody, who got his first bass as a present from his father after Zetro bought it off current EXODUS bassist Jack Gibson.
Regarding HATRIOT's musical direction, Zetro said, "It's in the vein of typical Bay Area thrash, but these guys are a lot younger, so there's gonna be some blast-beats in there. There's gonna be some kind of death [metal] approach to it, a little bit. 'Cause these guys are new. They're raw, and they're fast, young, heavy, hard and aggressive, and I'm trying to convey that along as well."
He added, "These new kids seem to understand what we did in the '80s, but still bring a little bit of a new essence to it. We put that together with what I write vocally and it's turned out to be really, really killer. It's good stuff."

RAUNCHY To Enter Studio In The Spring
 Danish modern metallers RAUNCHY — who last year parted ways with singer Kasper Thomsen and replaced him with Mike Semesky (formerly of THE HAARP MACHINE) — will enter the studio around April/May to begin recording their new album for a September/October release via Massacre Records.
RAUNCHY's "NGHT PRTY" video can be seen below. The song comes off the band's latest album, "A Discord Electric", which was released in September 2010 via Lifeforce Records.

Drummer Mike Portnoy (FLYING COLORS, THE WINERY DOGS, DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD) quit ADRENALINE MOB in June 2013 due to "scheduling conflicts."
In an interview with Brazil's "Wikimetal", Allen stated about Portnoy's departure from ADRENALINE MOB: "He's been, obviously, real busy with THE WINERY DOGS. The truth of it is we wanna keep working, we wanna keep doing ADRENALINE MOB and we don't wanna wait around for Mike to have the time [to put into ADRENALINE MOB]. And he doesn't know when he will have the time again, so that's really what's going down. Mike Portnoy was asked to be in the band by myself. Me and Orlando had already written all the material, so [ADRENALINE MOB's debut album] 'Omertá' was completely finished before Mike joined the act. And it's a bummer, but he's got his sights on other things, and he's not gonna stick around. So we wish him the best of luck, but the MOB's gotta go on."

In a recent interview with Ultimate-Guitar.com, Sharon stated about the songwriting process for "Hydra"": "A lot of bands were inspired by the '80s at the time we were writing 'The Unforgiving' album. There was a lot of music based on the '80s coming out and it had a lot of '80s flavors. With this new album, even though we're only a few years further up the road, you can feel that music has changed again. Music is not inspired on the '80s, but more like there are different influences in the music again. Music's always organic, and you feel things are changing comfortably."

Video: BELLADONNA-Less ANTHRAX Performs At TAMA's 40th-Anniversary Party At NAMM
 ANTHRAX members Scott Ian (guitar), Charlie Benante (Drums), Frank Bello (bass) and Jonathan Donais (guitar) performed a short set at the Tama 40th-annversary party this past Saturday, January 25 at the Hilton in Anaheim, California. ANTHRAX was nominated for a "Best Metal Performance" Grammy this year for its cover of AC/DC's "T.N.T." The track was featured on ANTHRAX's eight-track EP that pays tribute to the classic songs by some of the band's favorite acts from the 1970s. The CD was released in North America on March 19, 2013 (MRI/Megaforce), and on March 22, 2013 in Europe (Nuclear Blast).
ANTHRAX's next album will mark the recording debut with the band of Donais (also of SHADOWS FALL), who replaced Rob Caggiano in January 2013.
Regarding whether Donais is now officially an ANTHRAX member, Ian told Metal Insider: "For all intents and purposes, he's in ANTHRAX. He's going to be there for everything we do moving forward. As far as how you title it, yeah. As far as I'm concerned, Jon is in ANTHRAX and will be playing leads on the record and will be touring with the band starting at the end of May 2014."

SHINEDOWN's BRENT SMITH And ZACH MYERS Perform KENNY WAYNE SHEPARD, SOUL ASYLUM (Video)
 Atlantic Records has announced the release of "(Acoustic Sessions)", the forthcoming EP from SMITH & MYERS, better known to rock fans everywhere as Brent Smith and Zach Myers of SHINEDOWN. The EP arrives on the iTunes Store and at all leading digital retailers on January 28.
"(Acoustic Sessions)" sees Smith and Myers tackling a half dozen classic songs by such legendary artists as THE CLASH, METALLICA, Otis Redding, Kenny Wayne Shepard — who makes a surprise cameo on the recording of his own "Blue On Black" — BLACK CROWES and SOUL ASYLUM, all selected by SHINEDOWN fans as the tracks they'd most like the band to cover. The stripped-down recording sessions were filmed in their entirety by SHINEDOWN's longtime collaborator, filmmaker Darren Doane, resulting in intimate companion videos for each of the EP's six tracks. The fifth and sixth songs/videos from the collection to be unveiled, KENNY WAYNE SHEPARD's "Blue On Black" and SOUL ASYLUM's "Runaway Train", can be seen below. Videos for each of the EP's remaining tracks will premiere there daily leading up to the collection's January 28 release day.
"This is for the fans," says Smith. "They picked the songs and we recorded them — it's as simple as that. And I must say that our audience has great taste."
According to The Pulse Of Radio, SHINEDOWN initially planned to release an album of acoustic cover songs this year, but the original 10-song set turned into a six-track EP somewhere along the way. Smith told The Pulse Of Radio that the band's idea of posting videos on YouTube of them recording all 10 songs was what caused the problem. "Some of the artists were cool with letting us put them up, like basically on YouTube, and like show the video of the song being recorded," he said. "Some of the artists were cool with the video and some of the artists weren't cool with the video, and that's totally their decision. So the first six were approved and good to go and you could show the video with it and everything else, so those are the first six that we're gonna release."
The four songs left off the EP — which include BON JOVI's "Wanted Dead Or Alive" and ADELE's "Someone Like You" — will eventually surface without videos on iTunes.
In other news, January 22 will see the eagerly anticipated broadcast television premiere of SHINEDOWN's installment of "The Live Room" on Palladia. Filmed at the famed Henson Studios in Los Angeles, the exclusive set features electrifying versions of SHINEDOWN favorites like "Bully" and "I'll Follow You" — both featured on the band's chart-topping 2012 smash, "Amaryllis" — alongside a surprising and powerful cover of Carole King's "I Feel The Earth Move".

Guitarist Ralph Santolla, who joined OBITUARY in 2007 as the replacement for Allen West, has not played any shows with the group since 2011.

AT THE GATES Announces New Studio Album, Label Home
 Seminal Swedish metallers AT THE GATES are back! Following the heat of an ample and highly praised live reunion, the pioneers of the "Gothenburg-style" melodic death metal sound have announced that they are working on a comeback studio album, "At War With Reality", with the classic lineup of their latest masterpiece effort from 1995, "Slaughter Of The Soul", expected to be released worldwide by the end of 2014 via their new label partner Century Media Records.
AT THE GATES checked in with the following comment statement: "So, here we are almost 24 years since the birth of AT THE GATES, and some 18+ years since our latest album 'Slaughter Of The Soul'. A lot of years have passed and we have embarked on some life-changing reunion tours and shows the last couple of years.
"So, why make a new album you might ask, and why now? Well, what we learned from the last couple of years hanging out and playing shows together is that we enjoy what we do to the fullest extent. "We know you are all curious about the new material, and to make a simple explanation of where we are at musically, we would describe it as a perfect mix between early AT THE GATES and 'Slaughter Of The Soul'-era AT THE GATES, trying to maintain the legacy and the history.
"We chose Century Media as a worldwide partner for the upcoming album. We have all been friends for years with people at the label. Jonas [Björler, bass] and Anders have a history with THE HAUNTED there (as well as Adrian [Erlandsson, drums] with PARADISE LOST).

 Metal, rasta, punk-infused heavyweights (HED)P.E. have inked a worldwide deal with Pavement Entertainment. The band's ninth studio album, titled "Evolution", is currently being mixed for a summer 2014 release.

BLACK STAR RIDERS' Sophomore Album To Be Produced By DEF LEPPARD's JOE ELLIOTT
 BLACK STAR RIDERS, the band formed by THIN LIZZY alumni Ricky Warwick (guitar, vocals), Damon Johnson (guitar), Scott Gorham (guitar), Marco Mendoza (bass) with new addition Jimmy DeGrasso (ALICE COOPER, MEGADETH, DAVID LEE ROTH, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES) on drums, will enter a studio in Dublin, Ireland in October with producer, and DEF LEPPARD frontman, Joe Elliott, to begin recording its sophomore album for an early 2015 release via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Also working on the project will be longtime LEPPARD sound guru Ronan McHugh.
Comments Warwick: "Joe Elliott's passion, enthusiasm for music, as a fan, artist and friend is unquestionable and Ronan McHugh is a phenomenal engineer.
"Personally, having worked with these guys before, it was a no-brainer when they said they would like to produce the new BLACK STAR RIDERS album.

BLACK STAR RIDERS's debut album, "All Hell Breaks Loose", sold around 2,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 5 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
The "All Hell Breaks Loose" artwork features a painting by Gil Elvgren (March 15, 1914 - February 29, 1980), the legendary U.S. painter best known for his work on pin-up girls, advertising and illustration.
"All Hell Breaks Loose" was recorded and mixed by producer Kevin Shirley (LED ZEPPELIN, IRON MAIDEN, AEROSMITH, RUSH) at his The Cave studios in Malibu, California. Mastering duties were handled by Bob Ludwig (JIMI HENDRIX, RUSH, KISS, LED ZEPPELIN) at Gateway Mastering Studios in Portland, Maine.
The album was released as a standard CD and also as a special-edition digipak featuring a bonus track, "Right To Be Wrong", and a "making-of" DVD.

JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE Working On Debut Album
 Legendary GREAT WHITE singer Jack Russell, who currently fronts his own version of the band called JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE, has revealed to SleazeRoxx.com that he is working on material for a new studio album. He is being joined in the studio by former GREAT WHITE bassist Tony Montana (this time as a guitar player and keyboardist), lead guitarist Robby Locher and drummer Dicki Fliszar.
"It's a powerful band," Russell tells SleazeRoxx.com.
"The music comes across very dynamically. It's what I always wanted it to be.
"Tony was a catalyst for moving forward. I was never as close to him as I am now.
"We never had the opportunity to write music together before. I also never knew he played guitar. When I first heard him, I nearly fell of my chair. He's my co-pilot. He's one of my best friends. I wish we would've been this close back in the day."
"It's natural for all of us," adds Montana. "There's a solid chemistry, and we're having a lot of fun."
Regarding the musical direction of what will eventually be released as the JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE debut, Russell tells SleazeRoxx.com: "We want the new material to blow people's ears back. It has the elements of the best GREAT WHITE music ever written, but there's an edge. Tony brings that validity, while Robby and Dicki add a new life. It's going to surprise people."
Adds Montana, "It's got the classic sound. The first element is Jack's voice.
"No other band sounds like this one ever did or does now.
"When I was 17 years old, I remember walking around the UCLA campus listening to the band's first EP. I was a fan before I ever joined the band. We're going to maintain that same integrity going forward."
He continues: "The band was always a standout from the era it came from. It was never a hair band. Listen to the music, and that's evident. Everything was based in blues. We want to add to that legacy with new material preserving those timeless elements."

NITRO To Release Their “Lost” Album Volatile Activity
 US traditional metal veterans NITRO have joined with Blood and Iron Records/Metal Soldiers Records to issue the legendary “lost” never-released album Volatile Activity on vinyl.
Nitro formed in 1979, released their famous 10” EP Lethal in 1982, quickly signed with legendary Belgian label Mausoleum Records, and released the full length LP Lethal + II in 1983.
Hot on the heels of Skol Records July 2013 CD release of the Nitro anthology Lethal Dose, Volatile Activity comes from Blood and Iron/Metal Soldiers records limited release in black vinyl and blue vinyl.
For more than 26 years, this complete and self-produced album has been tucked away deep in the Nitro vaults. Vinylphiles will be treated to ten vintage tracks forged in 1987, as well as the new 2013 single ‘Uranium’ serving as the connective tissue to span the decades between classic and farm-fresh Nitro. Volatile Activity includes plenty of exciting extras such as detailed liner notes, lyrics, and never-before-seen Nitro photos from the 80’s of original members Dana Confer, John Hazel, Brad Gensimore, and Tim Wilson.

CRUCIFIXION BR Release First Ever Video ‘Eternal Judgement’
 ‘Eternal Judgement’, the first official video from the Brazilian black/death metal trio Crucifixion BR, can be seen below:
According to a press release, Crucifixion BR's music "has strong influences from classic old-school thrash, death and black metal bands, such as SEPULTURA (old), MORBID ANGEL, EMPEROR and BEHEMOTH, perfectly mixed with the original yet brutal beatings by a female drummer."
Crucifixion BR will be releasing sometime in 2014 its first full length album Destroying The Fucking Disciples Of Christ, cointaining 13 tracks and including a VENOM tribute. ‘Eternal Judgement’ is a track from the upcoming album, and also a track from the EP War Against Christian Souls, released in 2011 by Satanica Productions.
